CaFleureBon x 4160 Tuesdays FAErie Queen

ÇaFleureBon X 4160 Tuesdays FAErie Queen is the fifth collaboration between independent perfumer Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesdays and Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief’s Queen series (White Queen, Red Queen  Dark Queen and Pirate Queen) and was composed to celebrate ÇaFleureBon’s 14th anniversary, March 22, 2024. Michelyn owns more lipsticks (last count 213) than perfumes, but is not fond of their waxy rose-violet scent or what are typically known as lipstick fragrances. The brief  to Sarah for ÇaFleureBon X 4160 Tuesdays FAErie Queen was “make me a lipstick perfume I could love”. She did just that, and nailed it on the first mod. I was glamoured from first spritz. –Michelyn Camen

“Our fifth Queen collaboration is a new inspiration and challenge from Michelyn, a lipstick fragrance which pays homage to the traditional aroma without being overwhelmingly violet or roseWe are both intrigued by legends of the Fae, and fond of the Rivers of London series of novels, in which police detective (and wizard) Peter Grant regularly encounters their powers.

The Fey and The Furious from the Rivers of London series courtesy of Amazon.com

The FAErie Queen we picture isn’t a little Tinkerbell or a sweet, friendly fairy of modern children’s stories; she is powerful and wayward and lives in an alternate reality which intersects with our own, and will use the glamour to draw unwary humans into her world.

FAErie Queen approaches with a shimmering veil of vanilla, kumquat and orange. A reassuringly familiar accord of violet, musks and rose lulls the wearer into her embrace, before the unusual heart of orris butter, styrax, fir leaf and jasmine absolutes draw you into a strange but irresistible universe. By the time you notice it’s too late; you belong to the Fae.

Wear it to escape the humdrum, while keeping one foot firmly grounded in earthly reality”.Sarah McCartney.

Michelyn’s Note: When I asked Sarah for Faerie Queen’s “notes”, she wrote, “you know top, mid and base are just in the imagination? It’s all made up so that sales people can have a chat? I hate myself for complying with this fakery, but here you go:

Top: orange, kumquat, vanilla, violet; Mid: orris, jasmine, rose; Base: fir balsam, musk, styrax

Sarah was Michelyn’s MVP 2022 ÇaFleureBon Hall of Fame

  • I love the idea of adding some earthiness to the traditional lipstick theme. I have tried Red Queen. I live in the US and I think it would be interesting to do Freddie’s Queen (as in Mercury)
    Thanks !

  • Belladonna says:

This sounds so beautiful & I love the pictures of you both! Would be amazing to win. Thank you for the opportunity in the US.

  • (Colorado, USA) I love Sarah’s creativity and have been wanting to try one or more of her scents for ages. That being said, I haven’t tried any of the Queens, but I can certainly suggest one for 2025 – Ex-Queen. She’s had it with ribbon cuttings, dog & pony shows, and everything else that comes with the life sentence of being Her Majesty. She leaves the kingdom to her daughter and joins a bohemian artist colony on the Dalmatian coast. Scent profile TBD…still a hint of opulence in the background but more earthy, smoky, with some sharp edges.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

Nice lipstick collection Michelyn. My wife and I love a good lipsticky (just made that word up on the fly 🙂 ) accord and we are looking forward to this one. I have not yet had the opportunity to get my nose on any of CaFleureBon x 4160 Tuesdays’ “Queen” creations. However, I live in the Philadelphia area and will get my nose on them during my next visit to Perfumology. My latest purchase from 4160 Tuesdays was Brackenbury. OMG…it is so good! I imagine FAErie Queen will offer the same alluring aura that our other 4160 Tuesdays fragrances have been known to create.

So Exciting, I’m wanting more from this house, I’m loving everything about this new scent .I’ll have to check out the Books too. I’ve read only one in this series..

  • FAErie Queen sounds like my ideal fragrance! I love lipstick scents, and the note breakdown sounds fantastic. I have not had the pleasure of trying others in the Queen series, though Pirate Queen sounds super intriguing. I think a great new Queen to add would be Island Queen or Ice Queen! I am in the USA, in IL. Thanks!

  • I’m a fan of Sarah’s creativity and would love to experience FAErie Queen. I definitely need to check out the Rivers of London series…
always learning something new here. I would like to recommend a vampire queen, as I’m also a fan of deep dark fragrances. Thanks for another wonderful draw. Michigan USA

  • snowflake15 says:

Wow! I have always been a believer in fairy and love a lipstick perfume. I definitely have to try this one. Thank you for the drawing. NY state

  • I haven’t heard of this fragrance house or tried any of their scents, but based on the other reviews it seems like I’ll need to give them a try! The scent profile seems very unique and I love fragrances with a good backstory. I think it could be interesting to play around with a woods-themed scent or something aquatic…atlantis? New York, USA.

  • The lipstick scent without the heavy waxy feel sounds wonderful. I struggle wiht most lipstick scents because I do love teh way actual lipstick feels but I’m not overfond of that in a perfume. I live in teh USA. I’m not sure which queen should be next. Queen Bee? Drag Queen? (has there been one? is that insensitive? I can totally see an amazing scent made under that name.)

  • I love a kumquat note! But honestly all the notes look lovely and I can’t think of a fragrance that opens with Orange and Violet! I’m so intrigued. I have quite a few 4160 Tuesdays full bottles that I love – Dirty Honey, My Eau My, Captured in Candlelight, Through the Clouds and more but only small samples of Red and White Queen. I’m afraid I’m way behind on the series! I’d love to have this latest. Thank you for the opportunity. Im in California.

Hmm an idea for a Queen I’d say a cool silvery Fog Queen with notes of carnation, Lily, frankincense, chrysanthemum and a cold Iris cloak about her. Cold, ethereal, beautiful and mysterious.

  • 4160 Tuesdays is one of my favorite houses and Sarah McCartney is one of my favorite perfumers. I am so excited to learn of this new release! I was interested to learn that Michelyn has 213 lipsticks, but isn’t a fan of the typical lipstick scent. I also used to love and own many lipsticks, but I’ve been going natural for the past few years. However, I will always love a nice lipstick, and I do love lipstick fragrances. I like that Sarah and Michelyn combined their love of the Fae to create FAErie Queen. The opening of vanilla, kumquat, and orange sounds delicious. I love that Sarah used kumquat; I feel like it’s not used as often as it should be. Rose, orris, fir, and jasmine are some of my favorite notes so I am sure they’re incorporated beautifully into the composition. I laughed out loud when I read Sarah’s comments about top/mid/base notes!

I would love the opportunity to own FAErie Queen. I have no doubt whatsoever that I would love it; I own and love many 4160 Tuesdays fragrances. White Queen is one of my favorites of the “Queen” fragrances, but I have not tried Dark Queen yet.

I would love to see the following “Queens” in 2025 (it’s a long list!): Goth Queen, Disco Queen, Ice Queen, Nature (or Forest) Queen, 90s (or Grunge) Queen, Evil Queen, May Queen, Art Deco Queen, Impressionist Queen, Moss Queen, and Harvest Queen.

Thank you, Michelyn, for doing this collaboration and reviewing the fragrance. Thank you to Sarah McCartney and Nir Guy for the generous giveaway! I am located in the USA.

P.S. It would be a dream to collaborate with Sarah for a “Queen” fragrance!

  • I laughed out at Sarah’s remark about the fakery of the notes pyramid and here I find a kindred spirit – I’ve only encountered a few fragrances with a distinct opening that I did not care for but fell in love when they dried down. I’ve not tried any of the queen series but have loved meet me at the corner and over the chocolate shop. FAErie Queen sounds lovely and my suggestion for the queen series is a fragrance honoring Gorgo – the Spartan queen and wife to king Leonidas. I’m in TX USA

  • unearthlyapothecary says:

I love the juxtaposition between light and dark.. I am in the US and would love to see Future Queen a very cold sci-fi version. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • madamepeace says:

I’ve been so interested to try perfumes from Sarah’s artistry! What a fun idea to do a Faerie Queen! I was always obsessed with fairy lore as a kid and call other fellow sensitive empath types “faeries” when I meet them because sometimes it feels like we belong in a different world. Green Queen would be a cool one to do. just about everything in the fragrance notes for this sounds fluffy and buoyant and magical, especially the styrax with the heart of orris and kumquat! From OR, USA.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

I love lipstick scents and the note breakdown sounds fantastic and very feminine! I’m already curious!
    I am grom EU

  • Unlike Michelyn, I’m totally down for a typical lipstick frag. However, I am quite interested to see how Sarah has taken that DNA in a new and unique direction. I am really drawn to the heart of this one. I adore orris and styrax, but you don’t see them together as a focus very often. I can only imagine how seductive it may be. I have yet to try any of the Queen line of fragrances, but am quite interested in giving them a shot. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • I love lipstick scents so immediately ordered a sample. I am intrigued by Sarah making a new take on a lipstick scent. Also excited to see the collaboration and that Michelyn also collects lipsticks, i have a small collection too. I live in the US

  • What fun! Paranormal romances are my guilty pleasure and I’ve certainly read about my fair share of fae queens. I love violets and enjoy the classic lipstick rose-violet combination. The fruit vanilla opening promises some playfulness and the root green woody dry down sounds like traipsing through an enchanted forest. I haven’t tried any of the other Queens yet. How about Drama Queen? I’m in the US.

  • roxhas1cat says:

I cannot believe that Michelyn has more lipstick than perfumes. I was shocked. I just bought my first red lipstick last year at age 61. I loved Red Queen and White Queen. So happy this is easily available in the US from Perfumology! They have great service!! They are the only place I order my 4160 Tuesdays from, except I once ordered from Sarah in the UK and my package ended up in “jail” because another package leaked gasoline onto my box of a limited edition from Sarah and it took weeks for the Post Office to finally decide my package wasn’t to blame, get it repackaged and sent on to me. I never ordered overseas again. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • So I knew nothing about these collaborations and knowing how this starts off with the vanilla, kumqat and orange….that sounds like a wonderful combo to pull off. The lipstick fragrances don’t ever work for me so to hear we have similar takes when it comes to that scent profile I just know this is some good juice.

If you have a FAErie Queen you have to do the Witch Queen next.

    I live in Dallas, TX

  • Haven’t tried any of the queens yet. Disco queen makes sense to be! I live in the US. Thanks!

  • This sounds so interesting. I’m also not a huge fan of *traditional* lipstick scents as they’re too waxy for me. I haven’t tried any of the other Queen line. I think an interesting addition might be a Mermaid Queen. I’m in the US.

  • FAErie Queen has a fun brief and Sarah took it in an interesting direction. I like that she didn’t totally abandon the usual violet and iris, but wraps them in a citrus-vanilla medley and complex mix of styrax, fir, and musk. I’m curious how heavily this is weighted towards the floral notes and how long the sharp kumquat persists into the progression. Interesting blend. Congrats on the 14th anniversary!

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any of the previous Queen fragrances, so I’d love to start with this one. And how about a “Star Queen” in the future?

  • Absurdnose says:

I love a lipstick scent. Roses and violets are some of my favorite notes and the idea of the Fae inspiration is so wonderful. I want to try the whole series really, AND checkout the books . Thanks for the draw! I live in the US.

  • emorandeira says:

I has not Lucky yet of trying any if the perfumes that Sarah McCartney made for Cafleurebon but It would be great trying it. I LOVE Lipstick Fragrances so I can imagine that this one could become one of my favourites. Writing from spain. BEST regards to all!

  • I am in the US. I am a big fan of lipstick fragrances. I think something like Virgin Queen, honoring Elizabeth I would be an interesting fragrances to make

  • Michele Miller says:

Wow, you have my attention! I am also not a “lipstick scent” lover. So, now I am very curious as to how FAErie Queen smells. Overall, I do like the listed notes. I’d love to try this one.

  • Red Queen (rose) is my favorite queen, but I love rose and violets. Faerie Queen would really tick my boxes… supernatural books (must read the rivers of London) 4160 Tuesdays and CaFleurebon. My idea for queen would be Speakeasy queen.
    USA

  • foreverscents says:

The notes in FAErie Queen sound divine, especially kumquat, vanilla, and violet. What an interning brief–to make a lipstick perfume that Michelyn could love. I haven’t tried any of the Queens, but I have to try this one because I love kumquats. How about Desert Queen, an ode to Priscilla and all drag queens?
    I live in the USA.

  • sillage4ever says:

I’m on a fruit crush kick right now and kumquat is a note I have zero experience with, exciting! She would be my first Queen to try.

My favorite queen is the Scream Queen, think Sigourney Weaver or Toni Collette.

I’m in the US, thank you.

  • What a fun concept! I have not tried any of the other Queens, but I imagine a Witch Queen ought to make an appearance – maybe oak moss and kitchen herbs? I do enjoy rose and violet, but I’m sure the base notes make this much more interesting. Thanks for sharing and hello from Colorado, USA!

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review! I adore the scent of lipsstick (remind me of mom) and this take is pretty cool, especially with the use of orange and kumquat in the top.

I haven’t had the chance to try any of the other ones before.

    Cheers from WI, USA
