Hez Parfums Bourbon Street Review (Hez Binkowitz) + Boogie Street Giveaway

Perfumery is an art that goes beyond what we can see and hear. It has the power to evoke memories, emotions, and even transport us to places through its captivating notes. Throughout my perfuming journey, my goal has been to tell a story that I am unable to fully put into words. A story so deep, I find myself unable to finish telling it without being consumed with overwhelming emotion” Hez Binkowitz, perfumer for Hez Parfums

New Orleans is one of the most unique cities in the United States, one that pulses with a rhythm all its own. From the sultry notes of jazz that float through the French Quarter’s air to the vibrant celebrations that infuse its streets with vibrant colors during Mardi Gras, the city is a living mosaic of music, cuisine, and culture. Hez Binkowitz’s collection of perfumes is a fragrant tribute to the Big Easy, for an olfactive journey from the music-filled streets to the peaceful lush ambiance of the Garden District, taking inspiration from the drinks, the food, and the music. It’s a coherent and lively olfactive universe, filled with emotions that Hez has meticulously constructed, with love for the city and a poetic and artistic touch.

I started my journey by browsing the drinks menu of the cocktail collection and sipped on the mouthwatering, salty-rimmed Hand Grenade, the tropical punch of a Hurricane, and refreshed myself with a tall glass of sweet Raspberry Electric (that I think this is going to be perfect for warm weather), and closed off with a shot of rich daiquiri in Jungle Juice. Then, off to munch on some gourmands: I took a bite of Banana Bread, which I wanted to try ever since Rachel’s review, loved the elegant take on the coffee notes in Cafe’ Beignet, and pictured myself in an ice cream shop, surrounded by notes of waffles, caramel and chocolate syrup in Caramel Elixir and Brownie Points smelled as delicious as it sounds: a creamy, rich, dense and sweet texture, infused with a dash of bourbon

I thoroughly enjoyed wearing my Blue Dog sample, and its lively chameleonic transition from the fresh top notes to an ambery dry down, then cooled off diving into the ozonic waters of Blue Bayou. The most “traditionally feminine” of everything I tested was Muses, a citrus-floral inspired by the famous Krewe of Muses, an all-female Mardi Gras Krewe (composed by Hez’s wife Devorah). Voudoo Magic was everything I hoped it would be: a mysterious and alluring re-edition of how a magical shop smells like, with tobacco, oud, and a hefty dose of patchouli. Plum Confiture was an emotional ride- the comforting smell of a memory: my grandparents’ old house, spring air, and lekvár cookies let out to cool off on the wooden table.

My favorite, which is also the first fragrance made by Hez Binkowitz, is inspired by the place that is the most iconic symbol of New Orleans- Hez Parfums Bourbon Street.

Hez Binkowitz of Hez Parfums

“I wanted to create my first fragrance to truly represent a part of New Orleans that most people can relate to. One of the most iconic and recognizable experiences in New Orleans is visiting the famous Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. I wanted the fragrance to be fun and inviting, just like the environment and culture that can be found in the French Quarter, Hez Parfums Bourbon Street is a sweet gourmand fragrance, with an alluring edge. It includes the notes of apple, cinnamon, booze, vanilla, and sandalwood. I made it completely unisex because the Bourbon Street experience is for everyone. It’s meant to be a party in a bottle, and everyone is invited.” Hez Binkowitz

Hez Parfums Bourbon Street is a  memory capsule painted in a color palette of red, rust and warm browns captures the intoxicating smells of fine restaurants, and the sounds of jazz flowing in the air, mixing with a hint of whiskey and tobacco.  A delicious apple and cinnamon strudel rests on the table, a long shadow reaches over, pours a glass of bourbon, and goes outside, to light up a smoke. Warm, inviting, and comforting, it swings from the dry aroma of tobacco leaves to the powdery burned sweetness of tonka for an enveloping experience that feels both familiar and exhilarating. It let me craving crisp autumn evenings, the sound of steps on crunchy leaves, Bourbon Street on my wrists, and Leonard Cohen’s voice in my ears “I’m what I am, and what I am / Is back on Boogie Street

I have heard of Hez Parfumery, but have not tried any yet. I love that the collection is a tribute to New Orleans. Bourbon Street sounds amazing. I am in CA, USA.

  • The apple/cinnamon intrigues me & I wonder how it will play out here. Cinnamon frequently leans towards incense; paired with fruit I wonder how close it will be to pastry. In California, USA.

I’ve long wanted to get my hands on Blue Dog and now hearing about Bourbon Street I’m drooling! He says a ‘party in a bottle’ and it made me excited to smell&drink this scent in. Then I read the notes&knew it must be mine!! Apple tobacco bourbon vanilla?? Sold lol Thrilled to see it’s unisex as he says, Bourbon&N.O. is for everyone! Thank you for the opportunity, this is truly exciting. P.s. I too love crisp autumn evenings so I just know this will be lovely. I’m born, raised and live in Boston Massachusetts.

I have been exposed to Hez Parfums (I own Blue Dog) and it’s criminal how underrated this house is and how not many more people are talking about it. I have a feeling that won’t be for much longer. I learned something new today which is most of their fragrances take inspiration from New Orleans and looking at all the names, it makes sense. I got a sample set of a few of them and right away, Bourbon Street stood out for me. Caramel Elixir and Cafe Beignet are also great but I’m a gourmand lover first and foremost. I wore my sample to the gym 3 days ago and got nothing but compliments. The longevity and spillage are insane and I kept getting whiffs of it throughout my workout. If I had a wish, it would be a 100 ML bottle for the entire collection, but I’m sure in due time that will happen. I am now a huge fan of Hez Parfums and everyone I talk to, I will recommend the ones I love. I don’t know where Hez learned to make fragrances, but he is putting some witchcraft on these magical potions. Also, compared to other houses, the price is very reasonable and all the fragrances are of the highest quality. If Hez Parfums has 1,000 fans, I’m one of them. If Hez Parfums has 10 fans, I’m one of them. If Hez Parfums has 1 fan, that’s me. If Hez Parfums has 0 fans, I’m no longer alive. Besides alluring and inviting, two other words I’d use to describe Bourbon Street would be cozy and boozy as well. Don’t sleep on Hez Parfums! Cheers from the USA.

Having sampled Bourbon Street and Cafe Beignet, I’m already a fan of Hez Parfums and cannot wait to dive further into the collection. New Orleans has become like a second home, and getting to experience this unique city through the olfactory interpretation is an absolute treat. Cheers from Ohio! 🙂

  • Just off of the name alone, Bourbon Street sounds like such a desirable fragrance. New Orleans is a beautiful city.

I’m intrigued by the reviewer’s description of this parfum. Bourbon Street in a bottle. The food, the air, the music, all encapsulated in the notes. I live in Oregon.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

I’ve never experienced a Mardi Gras in NoLa but have always been intrigued by the culture, cuisine, and music of that area. I’m a sucker for apple, cinnamon, and bourbon combos in a fragrance and appreciate the touch of smoke with the tobacco note. I’d really like to win this offering. Appreciate the giveaway opportunity. Many blessing from Virginia, USA.

  • I’ve only been to New Orleans once, but it was at Halloween so the elements that make the whole of that city memorable were saturated with color and celebration, minus the Mardi Gras crowds. Hez Bourbon Street sounds fantastic by the notes and description and I wouldn’t mind trying the Blue Bayou either! (onto the Want To Try List we go!)

New Orleans was one of the strangest experiences I have ever lived and it’s still so precious to my soul. From night to day, a mystery. I would love to come back, even if only on the translucid wings of scent. And I am deeply appreciative of indie houses… I’d be honoured to try Hez Parfums for the first time, especially since we don’t get this brand here. It makes everything even more special. The notes sound divine. I am a big fan of apple in perfume compositions, especially when paired with darker notes such as tobacco, and this seems like so much (after-dark) fun. Thank you, from Romania.

  • My interest was sparked seeing apple listed as the first note and vanilla bean the last. Seems different. US

I’ve heard of this perfume house and started following them about 8 months ago. All of the fragrances does remind me of my visits when I went to visit my family and the New Orleans area. This fragrance house is something that I would definitely want to purchase and the notes on here sounds absolutely beautiful like an apple crisp. However, I would like for them to do a possible review on Blue dog or even Bourbon Street. Houston, TX, USA

  • What a delicious sounding scent! The apple strudel with cinnamon, infused with smoky tonka and a sip of bourbon on the side, sounds like what dreams are made of. Even if it’s full on spring where I am, Nicoleta’s description left me with my mouth watering. Bourbon Street does sound like party in a bottle, for foodies and not only!

  • I love how the review talks about textures, colors, scents, sounds, and feels of the fragrance. “Hez Parfums Bourbon Street is a memory capsule painted in a color palette of red, rust and warm browns captures the intoxicating smells of fine restaurants, and the sounds of jazz flowing in the air, mixing with a hint of whiskey and tobacco. ” I want to experience this! CT, USA

  • I love trying fragrances inspired by places. It’s always interesting to see what a perfumer’s experiences has on the resulting blend. The warm tobacco, spices, woods and of course, bourbon seem to encapsulate the spirit of Bourbon St and New Orleans nicely. MD, USA.

  • Mark Alicea says:

I do not own a Hez Parfums fragrance but I would like to. I do not follow the group & him on FB.

  • How fun! I love the quote about perfume being able to evoke emotions, memories, and places, which has been so true for me. The tobacco, sandalwood, and cedar sound like they’ll add a sophisticated touch to this boozy apple pie scent. Thanks and hello from CO, USA!

  • Oh I remember reading a review for this on cafleurebon when this was first released and wanting to try this! And here we are with more wonders! I definitely want to try the Muses and the Plum Confite etc… Time to seek out the discovery set. I’d be so happy to win this, grateful for the chance. Located on n California.

The fragrance seems to embody the spirit of the French Quarter with its sweet gourmand notes of apple, cinnamon, booze, and vanilla, balanced by the warmth of tobacco and tonka bean.

  • New Orleans is one of my favorite cities in the US and I’d love the chance to sniff a fragrance representation of it! Plus, I love any fragrance with a booze/fruit/tobacco combo. I live in the USA (but not in New Orleans; I wish)!

  • Bourbon Street provides a lot of heady inspiration for perfumery and I like how Hez interpreted it here, focusing on warm and boozy gourmand notes. Nicoleta pointed out that the tobacco is dry and sounds like the fixture all the sweeter notes can revolve around. This sounds particularly well suited to autumn. And great review—really puts you in the French Quarter.

  • I love the opening quote from Hez. New Orleans is an amazing place. Feels like you are not even in the U.S. I hope to go back again. This makes me want to go back to NOLA just to eat and drink!! I love that Nicoleta wrote a brief summary of a few other fragrances. Thanks for the chance. USA.

If you have ever been to New Orleans and been out on a good Friday night you know this is a perfect description. The music and the people and the smell of the food everywhere is very intoxicating which is what I feel this scent embodies. Those apple and cinnamon notes with that Tobacco and bourban I know would bring in memories from my time spent in the bayou.
