Best Rose Valentine's Day Perfumes

In Part 1 of our top ten Steven and I curated five fragrances that feature three ingredients known for their romantic and sensual qualities: chocolate, rose and musk. Today, we focus on rose, a.k.a. “The King and  Queen of Flowers”.

Cleopatra and roses

Cleopatra 1875 Artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema

Roses have been used in perfumery for thousands of years and is the flower most associated with romance and seduction. Cleopatra famously carpeted her bedroom and barge with rose petals while entertaining Marc Antony, so he would always think of the Egyptian Queen anytime, anywhere, he smelled a rose. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Best Rose Valentine's Day Perfumes 2023

Valentine’s Day Perfumes 2023 by Steven

As a fragrance lover, I’m always disappointed that most florists’ roses are devoid of scent, which is why I anoint myself with our favorite rose-centric Valentine’s Day Perfumes.

Amouage Lyric Man (Daniel Visentin) 2008: Masterfully blended, Lyric Man successfully melds together both classic French and Middle-Eastern styles of perfumery. Deep, complex, and multi-layered, Lyric Man dials back the smoky incense vibe of Lyric Woman in favor of a deep forest pine note tinged with spices. The result is an uber-rose that should be in everyone’s collection. In spite of its masculine name, when you buy perfume look beyond the gender designation and find the fragrance that suits you-Michelyn

Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose: From the Carnal collection, Atomic Rose is an explosion of roses, Bulgarian and Damask brightened by bergamot and sweetened by vanilla. Not listed on the site, but there’s the Hedione. Hedione©,  was first used in the1960s as an alternative to jasmine absolute. As I wrote in our New  Year’s Fragrances Video, “In 2015, the science journal NeuroImage published a study in which the Firmenich molecule Hedione© was found to stimulate the limbic areas of the brain in women which are responsible for the release of pheromones.” This is one of the most powerful roses on our Valentine’s Day Perfumes 2023 list and one or two sprays goes a long way.  Official Notes: Italian Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose, Turkish Rose, Egyptian Jasmin, Madagascar Vanilla -Michelyn

Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums (Bertrand Duchaufour) is one of the newer releases from the brand. This exotic and mesmerizing perfume features a harmonious blend of raspberry and rose from Morocco. This composition by Bertrand Duchaufour blends spices like saffron with precious woods and a natural rose ingredient to create a sensory experience that truly takes you on an illustrious journey.-Steven

Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro (Yuri Gutsatz, 1976 / adapted by Maxence Moutte for its 2016 re-release): Rose Trocadero is all about the rose from start to finish, lovely roses, soft yet bright, like the rosy clouds of a perfect sunrise; vibrant but with a luminescence. Rose Trocadero is unapologetically beautiful. It provides me with a fragrant aura of that brings me comfort and joy all day long. What more could one possibly ask for? Notes: Bulgarian rose, blackcurrant buds, lavender, clove and musk -Michelyn

In both Steven’s and my number one spot is Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait (Anne-Sophie Behaghel): The “under the radar” Sans Un Mot is romance transformed into scent. This sexy, musky rose has a lipstick vibe from the iris, and is sweetened by vanilla and licorice.  Pure seduction, this is a love potion that I imagine Cleopatra would spray lavishly on her décolletage  and everywhere in her boudoir, its trail clinging to Antony’s toga. Notes: Pink Pepper, Mandarin, Blackcurrant, RoseYlang-YlangVioletIrisVanilla, White Musk, Soft Woods.-Michelyn

This is a great article by Michelyn and Steven did an Amazing job in the video describing these fragrances. There are 2 that caught my attention and I would to win either one. Atomic Rose or Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot.
Either of these would be nice to add to my collection.

  • I enjoyed how professional and interesting Steven’s video review was. I also loved Michelyn’s introduction because it was a great way to get to know more about the subject of Valentine’s Day perfumes. Her introductions always make me want to read the entire post. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I would like to win: 15 ml of Rose Trocadero and 50 ml of Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot.

  • Wow I never knew that about Cleopatra, learn something new everyday. I love rose, it adds such character to fragrances and you will stand out from everyone else. Michelyn And Steven have different perspectives on each fragrance but combined makes a well rounded description, this is why I enjoy both of their takes. I would love to win Sans Un Mot.

I love rose as a flower and as a fragrance note. Atomic rose is my most favorite fragrance. It’s a bit similar to Delina, but it’s more mature, more mysterious.

  • Regardless of winning a bottle, I just enjoy writing a comment on Ca Fleur Bon, as well as Steven’s review. Steven’s reviews are so informative that I could tell he is a great teacher. Although I don’t give much importance on Valentine’s Day or romantic experiences, I have fondness towards notes of rose and chocolate (dark). If I rid of the sweet notes I less prefer, it remains with Amouage’s lyric man. I have a sample of it. I love its dry elegance. Looking forward to obtaining Lyric man in future.

I had a sample of Atomic rose some years ago, and now I want a 90ml bottle of it.

  • Great video by Steven as always and the one which caught my attention is the Jovoy Sans Un Mot which I am not familiar with. The intro of Michelyn was a nice pathway to set the mood and tone about the perfumes as well.
Currently based in Doha,Qatar and would like to choose the Jovoy if I am chosen. @iconz255 on Instagram.

  • hippononamus says:

I really love the sound of Amouage Lyric Man, as Steven’s description of the rose blending with the smoky incense and Michelyn saying how it goes piney sounds divine. For the giveaway, I’d have to go with Nuit Royale as Duchafour can do no wrong and I like the Steven’s description of it having a spicy edge. I’m in the US.

  • claudioalatorre says:

I love how steven gets in depth into the personalities each perfume can give off. I really resonate with Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose, since i’m a little flirty and more out there and would love to wear this one day!

  • I will definitely have to get my nose on these fragrances. Especially Amouage Lyric. My favorite Rose scents are Le Labo Rose 31 and Chanel Egoiste.

  • ramsesperez52 says:

I like how Michelyn calls Atomic Rose an explosion of roses, sweetened with vanilla. I have tried other Initio fragrances and I know they have superb longevity. I also like how Steven pointed out it has 2 types of roses, one of them being Damask rose. I love me a sexy and flirtatious fragrance. I would love to win a bottle of Initio Atomic Rose. Cheers from NJ, USA

  • This is an amazing article, allowing the reader understand that throughout time, love has always been there. Even Cleopatra had an intense love that she came up with a way to Anthony to always remember her whenever he smelled a rose.

  • How timely! I was just looking at outfits for Valentine’s Day and of course, trying to decide on a fragrance for my date. Based on Steven’s description, Initio’s Atomic Rose seems like the perfect fit because it’s more on the sweeter, flirty, and sensual side. Also, the notes and longevity Michelyn described is exactly what I’m looking for – vanilla for a little softness/warmth, bergamot (my favorite note), roses (I’m very curious about the scent profiles of the two types), and long-lasting/good projection.

  • Michelyn explains how Cleopetra wanted Antony to associate rose with her. I agree Amouage Lyrics has a proper rose note that is immed. noticeable. Steven adds that Amouage Lyric has incensey vibe to it, too. My choice is Intito Parfums Prives Atomic Rose or Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot. I am in US.

  • These articles/reviews on Cafleurebon are collectibles, kind of like reference materials for current and future use, so for example, if one wants to get rose, cacao, coffee, tea, or rose perfumes, these reviews can come to one’s rescue. As usual Michelyn’s historical note on Cleopatra and roses was interesting. Steven did a wonderful job of comparing the different rose perfumes, and based on his video reviews and Michelyn’s descriptions, I like both Atomic Rose and Nuit Royale (nice info on hedione too, Michelyn!!), but I would go with Atomic Rose, if I am the lucky winner of this draw. I am in the continental USA and a Redolessence subscriber.

  • A beautiful article and video. I alway look for the best ideas for best rose. I tried Lyric man and the description was as I remember it. Atomic Rose seems very interesting for Valentine’s. I was interested in learning more about Nuit Royale and I am happy I got some info. I will need to get a decant. Joboy Sans un Mot was a surprise to me. I liked both Michelyn’s input and Steven’s description. I definitely need to try that musky rose with iris and vanilla..

I would love to try Atomic Rose. USA

  • Firstly, thank you for organizing this giveaway for your audience. Steven is such an articulate and charismatic way of describing scents, which is why I’m such an avid subscriber of his. I enjoy Steven and Michelyn’s different perspectives on fragrances, and as a viewer, it’s valuable to have different insights to help me better understand understand the fragrances and connect with you more.

I am located in New York, NY and if I were selected, I would love Initio Atomic Rose

  • I love these curated seasonal lists. I love even more that you included one of my favorite perfumes from one of my perfume houses Atomic Rose. Even though I live in a warm climate, that is one of my go-to’s. It is so good, there is nothing like it. I know it gets compared to Delina (which I love too), but this is like picking your favorite child, I love them both. Since I have already Atomic Rose, the three that I am interested in are Nuit Royale, Le Jardin Retrouve Rose Trocadero and especially Jovoy’s Sans Un Mot. Thank you !

  • Oh how I wish I could afford any one of these opulent fragrances. I have inspired creations, but nothing beats the real thing. Great article….informative and interesting. As with Stevens always perfect reviews. I’d love to have a bottle of Lyric Man!!!

  • Michelle Bower says:

Hello everyone and happy Friday. Nuit Royale sounds lovely… that said Jovoy is so exclusive and fancy and I have never seen such a beautiful bottle. The notes sound divine and deeply seductive. Atomic Rose is always popular and that bottle is striking. It’s my birthday this week so I really hope I win. Thanks Steven for a great video once again and to all who put these articles together.

  • Wow – Initio Parfums Atomic Rose seems like the perfect vday gift for my girlfriend. She definitely wears a lot of fruity florals, so I think what Steven said about it being on the sweeter side would work perfectly. Michelyn mentioned that aside from the roses, the vanilla is what sweetens it. But I love how it seems very well balanced with the bergamot and jasmin too. Thanks for the good gift ideas!

Great job by Michelyn and Steven did here. There are 2 that caught my eye and I would to win either one. Atomic Rose or Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot. Good luck all from Boston, Massachusetts!

  • I had always imagined Cleopatra as more of a civet smelling type.
What a relief to learn about the roses.
I always enjoy Steven’s in depth reviews.
    Oklahoma USA

  • My favorite floral note is Rose. Michelyn’s article and Steven’s Video Best Rose was a wonderful treat.Looking forward to Valentine’s day . I like them all. ATOMIC ROSE sounds wonderful. Jovoy Paris as well. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Amazing list and video by both Michelyn and Steven. I see quite a few familiar perfume houses and I’m glad to see rose as the common theme, something that I’m not quite used to. Nuit Royal’s sounds amazing with the wood notes and the rose (quite curious about the differences in scent from Bulgarian and Moroccan rose). The one fragrance on my list that really drew my attention was Intito Parfums’ Atomic Rose, with Hedione as an ingredient. I did some digging and apparently it smells similar to jasmine and stimulates the brain as said in Steven’s video and Michelyn’s review. If I were to win, I would love to try Intito Parfums Prives Atomic Rose or Navitus Parfums Nuit Royale. From TX, USA.

  • waleedmalkaraki@yahoo.com says:

Great read and I always love how professional and detailed Steven always is. He allows me to fully imagine the scent through his descriptions. I’d love to recieve Atomic Rose or Jovoy as I heard they’re beautiful scents. I live in Chicago Illinois

  • -Amouage Lyric Man
Big fan of Interlude Man , stunning fragrance , Lyric Man I’ve never smelled. I like how deep, complex, and multi-layered Lyric Man is , how it dials back the smoky incense
    -Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose
In my possession right now is Oud for Happiness travel sprayer in 10ml . Atomic Rose i like because of the darker, sweeter twist
    -Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums
Navitus Vivamor i own , all-purpose, pleasing all year round fragrance I wear on regular basis. Nuit Royale is part of a different , more high-end collection , and I like everything about it, it’s more party like, I like the way it develops , the raspberries, the saffron and the whole mysterious nature of the fragrance.
-Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro (Yuri Gutsatz, 1976 / adapted by Maxence Moutte for its 2016 re-release):
    Classy rose
-Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait (Anne-Sophie Behaghel):
I was not aware red label Jovoy fragrances are Extrait concentration only , good to know. Sans Un Mot is multifaceted sensual fragrance, capable of impressing Michelyn and Steven to such degree, not something you see everyday.
Final touch to a classy outfit , and I feel mysterious today, Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums would be great
Thank you Michelyn, Steven, Fine Fragrances Distribution, Le Jardin Retrouve and Jovoy
    USA

  • What I liked about Stevens’ video was his description on each fragrance and how he explains each fragrance so that we can get a good idea of how they smell. I also like how he briefly educates us on fragrances such as when he said how Initio’s Atomic Rose has hedione and how it activates the pleasure centers of the brain. It’s always cool to get information like that.

For the drawing, I live in Missouri. If I were to win, I would like Atomic Rose by Initio. But really, I would like to win any of them.

  • Thank you Steven and Michelyn for your insight and and knowledge on rose as a note. Steven, you have such a professional and fluent way of speaking in your videos that makes it so easy for me to agree with everything you say regardless of if I have ever smelled these fragrances. I do love Lyric and Atomic Rose though! Michelyn, thank you for helping put this altogether I love this series on romantic accords! I am in Virginia in the USA and I would love to win Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums as I have not gotten my nose on it and it sounds delicious.

  • I was already aware of Lyric Man and Atomic Rose. It is always nice to learn a little more about fragrance houses that I have not heard of. I live in NJ and I am Interested in winning Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot or Nuit Royale. I am glad Steven introduced me to your blog so I may be able to learn more in my journey of discovery. It is good to see the differences in note breakdowns of the perfumes to get an idea of how they smell relative to each other. The background that Michelyn gave about Cleopatra setting that memory in Marc Antony’s mind every time he smells rose is a nice detail that I had not known. Thank you for the insight.

  • Dproductive1 says:

I enjoyed Michelyn sharing Cleopatra’s using rose petals to entangle Marc Antony. I also enjoyed Steven juxtaposing Atomic Rose and Lyric Man as flirtatious and elegant respectively. Should I win, I’d choose Atomic Rose. I live in Pennsylvania.

  • Brandon Morgan says:

I love the scents that were chosen for this Valentine’s list, I already own Lyric Man & it is one of my favorite rose fragrances. I am intrigued anytime I see ylang-ylang featured so I am interested in Jovoy’s Sans Un Mot, sounds amazing!

  • Such great rose perfumes and the written and video really work together. Love that Cleopatra had rose petals to seduce. The sensual rose Jovoy sans in Mot and the joyful Le Jardin Retrouve Rose Trocadero really appeal to me since initio atomic rose smells like Delina which I own imho
    USA

  • As a fellow rose lover, I am equally saddened whenever florist roses have no strong scent! Navitus Nuit Royal was new to me and I was most intrigued to hear about it, especially being a Duchaufour scent! Le Jardin Retrouve is a brand I have been interested in for a while and Rose Trocadero sounds lovely. Roses and berries are usually a winning combination for me.
Another scent came to mind when watching Part of 1 and 2 of Steven’s videos, which was 4160 Tuesdays Silk, Lace and Chocolate which was a Valentine’s Day limited edition originally years ago and was a beautiful silky chocolate fragrance with a sweet strawberry note, eminently appropriate for the holiday. Thank you for the article and giveaway! Always very happy to find new rose scents.

  • Oooh i love rose and all of these sound beautiful. I think if i win, id pick the initio atomic rose. Ive wanted to try this house for awhile, i love all the notes discussed here although im not sure I really believe in the whole phenomone thing. If it makes you feel good, thats what really matters and is attractive. Im not a big valentines person, but always fun to do a themed article. I love stevens presentation style, hes not too salesy, easy to understand and seems like a nice person. I love his style too, he always looks fresh! Very much the opposite of me so i admire folks who can look put together. Anyway! I am in Bellingham, WA!

  • Once again the writing and video work well to round out all the questions and intrigues! Not entirely in full agreeance with each other on each fragrance… except with Jovoy, I would love to win all but I must choose the Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot as my final choice – you both have me feeling confident in it. In the USA
    Thank you

  • Ever since amethyst I’ve steered away from rose, but I love creeds spring flowers. Navitus Parfums Nuit Rayale Sounds Like Something I Would Definitely Love Though!!!!!!!

  • FragranceIsMe says:

The detailed presentation of these fragrances are well described by Steven and Michelyn. I am one who enjoys the creation of scent memories and have an appreciation of Michelyn’s example of Marc Anthony’s scent memory of Cleopatra when it came to roses.
I currently own Amouage Lyric and find this to be a beautifully unique rose fragrance.
All other fragrances wonderfully presented in this essay and in Steven’s video are all fragrances I’d enjoy adding to my collection. I’d gladly look forward to winning any of these creations. I live in the US.

  • I loved the way he described each fragrance. The introduction was fabulous.
I live in Bronx NY and I would like the Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose

  • I like roses in the garden and in perfumes and both fresh and dark kinds. It’s being used so much for a reason, the smell is gorgeous and not just for romantic purposes 🙂
My favorite from my collection is Noir de Noir, but I am very curious of Jovoy’s take after reading the reviews.
Would like to win the Jovoy, I’m in the EU.

  • I love roses, both in perfumery and as a flower. I am in Europe and I would pick Sans un Mot from Jovoy. Thank you!

  • Steven’s description of the rose & smoky incense blending in Lyric Man sounds great and Michelyn saying how it goes piney throws me off but still interesting. Would love to try Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums!
    Martinsville, Virginia USA

  • I like most about the review his choice of accurate words and rather wide register of vocabulary to evoke the scents.I am from EU and would like to own a bottle of Jovoy Sans un Mot if given a chance

  • The “under the radar” Sans Un Mot is romance transformed into scent. Notes: Pink Pepper, Mandarin, Blackcurrant, Rose, Ylang-Ylang, Violet, Iris, Vanilla, White Musk, Soft Woods.-Michelyn I am intrigued by Michelyn description this sounds like a magical concoction. Steven description of Atomic Rose and longevity piqued my interest. My instagram id is amnaaziz5296@gmail.com. If I am lucky Iove to win Jovoy Sans Un Mot. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Roses been used in perfumery for thousands of years and is the flower most associated with romance and seduction. Cleopatra famously carpeted her bedroom and barge with rose petals while entertaining Marc Antony, so he would always think of the Egyptian Queen anytime, anywhere, he smelled a rose. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief. I am fascinated by Jovoy Sans Un Mot a beautiful description by Michelyn especially rose and lipstick notes. I loved Steven’s review of Initio Atomic Rose in particular the longevity and Sillage really stood out for me. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Nikolina_84 says:

I love rose perfumes, so it was a pleasure to read Michelyn’s and Steven’s opinions and get to know some new perfumes I didn’t know about. They really sparked my interest in Sans Un Mot -being on number one spot to both tells everything about a masterful creation.
I would be happy with either Rose Trocadero or Sans Un Mot.
    Hugs from EU.

  • I definately would like to win the 50 ml bottle of Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot. The violet and rose in there sounds really interesting, as I can’t really think of another fragrance where those 2 notes battle for the spotlight. Hopefully I can win it. Good luck everyone.

    I live in Sweden, EU.

  • David Santiago says:

Rose is not just “the Queen of Flowers”… it can also be a “King”. A rose is a rose is a rose… and I just can’t get enough! I love it! Thank you for curating this list. Being a rose lover, I appreciate learning about new fragrances I’ve yet still to try. I live in Tampa, FL. I would like to enter to win either Initio Atomic Rose or Navitus Nuit Royale. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

Initio atokic rose sounds delightfully. Michelyn is always incredible descript and I love how Steven describes performance. That’s super helpful. I’d love to win the initio and live in Indiana.

  • Every human being loves a rose and that is why it is a symbol of love and harmony. IMO, without a rose as an ingredient a perfume/attar is incomplete. Nice picks for Valentine’s Day. For the perfumes mentioned in this article, I have only Amouage Lyric Man, would love to try others.
Thanks for your generosity, count me in, Please.
    Love from Pakistan

  • Regarding the video, I always enjoy learning about notes in perfumes and it’s really how i like to discover new scents.
Regarding the article, I liked how they saved the(seemingly) best for last! Le Jardin Retrouve sounds very complex and nice, yet only could come in 15 ml unfortunately lol.
I live in LA, CA. Personally, I think if i could win the Navitus it would be nice. I hear good things of the brand and I’m a heavy sprayer so 125 is the way for me even over the (seemingly) best 15 of Le Jardin.
    Thank you for your time!

  • Avner Mainshy says:

I want to wish everyone love and good luck. fragrances are a joy for the soul, and an autograph of the personality, especially on a date.. What I liked the most was the sincerity in the video. sincere impressions of fragrances and emotions.., I guess this is the most valuable thing that perfumes give us..
I want to Mille mercis to Jovoy Parfums Rares – Avner, OAE

  • Roses are splendid flowers, both in perfumery and to either gift them, admire or simply trying to grow for one’s own pleasure. I like roses in perfumery and even as a man, from time to time, I tend to wear some based rose fragrances like Rose Trombone or Rose Ishtar. I am curious about Jovoy’s take on rose, so that one would be my choice.
    EU. Thanks!

  • bigscoundrel says:

Great intro talking about the timelessness of rose as a seductive scent. Of these fragrances, Steven pointed out Atomic Rose as being the sexier of them, so I’m interested in this one for my SO. I’m in New Jersey, USA.

  • i definitely believe that rose fragrances are built for the more elegant, mature man who posses a very comforting yet leader like aura.
My personal favorite rose fragrance is xerjoffs “more than words” this fragrance is extremely potent and always cloaks me in a very formal uptight kind of feel that makes me feel responsible. The dry down of the rich rose and dark oud is very mysterious and intoxicating.

    PICK ME PICK ME!!

  • I enjoyed reading and hearing of your choices. Lyric Man sounds beautiful, as I am a fan of unisexy fragrances. I love the idea of sniffing the #1 spot choice of Sans Un Mot. Thanks for the opportunity. Mich USA

  • I always enjoy Steven’s videos. He keeps them precise and informative. Regarding the article, what can I say, very informative and detailed. It’s opened my eyes and nose to the beauty of rose scents and makes me eager to dive into the world of rose and show my appreciation. I’ve never won anything in my life and if I were to be a lucky winner I’d most definitely appreciate being the recipient of atomic rose. I love the house of initio and atomic rose would go well with my psychedelic love and side effect

  • To think just a few years ago as I started my fragrance journey, I would have never even considered wearing a rose fragrance. Now, it is my favorite note! Nothing expresses the duality of what is traditionally masculine or feminine quite like the brazen, cold, metallic facets of rose opposed to the juicy, soft, and delicate side. Such a complex floral! I appreciate that Steven always seems to address the dichotomous nature of rose when he speaks about it. In this video, I was especiallly to hear him talk about its various roles depending on what its combined with, whether it be a fliratious rose with vanilla, or a more leegant rose with incense. As a lover of iris and lipsticky fragrances, I also appreciated Michelyn’s comments on the rose/iris/musk combo in Jovoy’s Sans Un Mot. The fact it also contains licorice rally excites me becaue I find that note to be so intoxicating but I don’t believe I have experienced it in a rose fragrance before. That said, if I were to win, I would choose Jovoy Paris San Un Mot as my first pick and Intio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose as my second pick. I am in the USA.

  • Very nice selection by Steven.
I would love to win Jovoy Sans un Mot, but unfortunately I live in Mexico.

  • Of course roses are something that never has to miss on Valentine Day and you can have it on perfumery too.
Roses totally add something unique to perfumery and I love it on all its facets.
Great introduction by Michelyn and se,ection by Steven aka Redolessence, They are truly masters in their work.
I hope to win Nuit Royale or Atomic Rose, but either or the fragrances would be amazing.
    USA here.

  • Rose is one of my top favorites notes and I loved reading as well as learning about these new rose dominant scents. Thank you Michelyn! Other than atomic rose I wasn’t familiar with any other. Steven as always brings the scents to life for me! I’m based in the US and would like to be considered for – 15 ml of Rose Trocadero and 50 ml of Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot.

  • wanderlost8 says:

In Steven’s comparison of all the fragrances, Atomic Rose really piqued my interest because the notes sound really lovely. Michelyn’s introduction of Hedoine was really fascinating and led me down a rabbit hole of looking up more info on it since I’m quite new to the fragrance world and this is my first time hearing of it. I’d love to win either Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose or Navitus Parfums Nuit Royale

  • Yes! I also am so sad when I take a big whiff of a rose bouquet and find that it has barely any scent! And I agree with both of you about Amouage Lyric man – it’s a stunner of a perfume worthy of being on the “all time best” lists. It is an awesome perfume for anybody seeking a deep, dark, dynamic, mysterious rose… I should really get a bottle for myself one of these days.

As a born rose field I would be lucky to win any of these. “Nuit Royale” stands out to me as a top pick because Bertrand Duchafour knows how to make pleasingly rich fruity-florals and I love my roses spiced. “Atomic Rose” from the name to the bold scent profile is giving me cheeky vibes, so I might pick one of those out of the lineup! I’m in the US, thank you for the draw!

  • Steven and Michelyn always complete one another with their wonderful and elaborate descriptions. I enjoyed this classic “Valentine’s day” fragrance selection revolving around the rose and I agree that’s at the same time an evergreen and a very versatile note for any occasion and especially romantic ones.
I would love to win Jovoy Sans un mot, a powdery floral concoction which leaves the “smeller” speechless, or Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadero, a symphony of roses from the beginning to the end.
    From the EU.
    Thanks!

  • Great reviews by Michelyn and Steve. Rose is the queen of the florals for a very good reason. Interesting that rose was associated with the famous lovers Antony and Cleopatra. I love the different treatments of rose highlighted in the review; musky, fruity, incense, and spicy. I would love to win either the Sans Un Mot, Atomic Rose or Nuit Royale. MD, USA.

  • Oh, what I enjoyed in Stevens and Michelynreviews? Hmm, it is always very educational and pleasant to watch Steven at redolessence, he is such a talented and knowledgeable fragrance reviewer! I am interested in either Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot, or Nuit Royale! I am from US
    Thank you

  • I’m focusing on rose fragrances each , and every day of the year (F)

As usual I’ll share my thoughts on the fragrances in the list , and compare my thoughts with what Michelyn and Steven are getting.

Amouage Lyric Man is arguably the most underrated fragrance from the brand. Like Michelyn said deep and complex incensy rose , and at least in my opinion more Middle-Eastern than French.

Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose to me is sweet jammy , and slightly peppery rose.

Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums is a winner, rose, raspberries, mysticism and on top of all the nose behind the fragrance is Bertrand Duchaufour

Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro (Yuri Gutsatz, 1976 / adapted by Maxence Moutte for its 2016 re-release):
I think Rose Trocadéro is slightly old-school, musky and heavy on the cloves rose.

Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait (Anne-Sophie Behaghel):
One of the few Jovoy fragrances I don’t know, so I can’t share my own thoughts like I usually do.
Cleopatra images, liquorice and lipstick type of iris , Sans Un Mot is captivating fragrance I’ll sample soon

I’d like to win Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums

    Just followed @maxencemoutte , and @massimoalfaioli , the other profiles I follow for a long time , @waltherp99bg
    Thanks a lot

  • Thank you for a wonderful article and a video. I have heard a lot about Cleopatra’s love for fragrances and milk baths. The story about Cleopatra, roses and Mark Antony is one of the most romantic and beautiful stories and perfectly connects with Valentine’s day mood. I liked Michelyn’s description of Atomic Rose as a powerful rose example. I also liked Steve’s choices, especially Amouage Lyric Man.
My choice is Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot.
    Lithuania, EU.

  • BoogieDaddy says:

As Michelyn stated, rose is a note that has been seducing us for centuries. It’s facets dance upon the line between masculine and feminine so perfectly and it truly is up to the composer to decide whether they want it to lean more in one direction or the other. I loved Steven’s brief assessments of each fragrance, letting us know which were classier and which a bit more playful. Should my comment be selected, I would be happy with either Initio Parfdums Prives Atomic Rose or Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot.

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

I liked Steven’s “on the ____ side of things” classification of the rose centered perfumes, and the way he describes them, it really made me drool :). Michelyn’s introductions, always to the point and with a fresh bit of information I never knew.
I live in Europe and, if I’d be that lucky to win, I’d like to discover Sans un mot, Steven’s review really sparked my interest.

  • I am amused that Cleopatra carpeted her bedroom and barge with rose petals while spending time with Mark Antony.
Very interesting I find that ‘Firmenich molecule Hedione© was found to stimulate the limbic areas of the brain in women which are responsible for the release of pheromones’.
Steven’s video is great as always, very clear and easy to follow.
I would love to win a bottle of Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot.
    Hugs from Romania

  • Rose is one of my favorite notes in perfumery, and agree with Michelyn that their aroma can be very sensual and seductive. I loved all of Steven’s descriptions of these 5 rose perfumes, but especially Initio Atomic Rose with its two types of natural-smelling rose. I would love to win a bottle of Atomic Rose! I follow @cafleurbebonofficial on Instagram @ra7chel and I’m in MN, USA.

  • All hail the Queen Rose!! I didn’t know that about Cleopatra, I’m still envisioning her hanging onto that toga. Thanks for the reminder of the YouTube scams. Someone tried to scam me once, but when the prize was “whatever perfume I wanted” I knew it wasn’t legit. I chuckled when Steve said the Nuit Royale wasn’t associated with any social media personality because Bertrand is a “star” in my eyes. No one does exotic and mysterious like Bertrand, that’s my pick if I’m the lucky person. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • As steven sans un moi is a totally underated gem. Sexy but yet innocent I love the combination between the rose and the iris.
    Greetings from Italy!

  • I always love when a review is done for fragrances with rose as the dominant note. I probably have more rose perfumes than any other type in my collection. It’s such a versatile note that works so well with other notes, whether it’s done in a fresh floral or gourmand.
I really love the Initio fragrance line so I would absolutely love to win Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose.

    I live in the US.

  • Rose fragrances are not just for all Cleopatra’s , but for all Marc Antony’s too 🙂
☆ Amouage Lyric Man is really thick incense rose , and I think it’s not just “tinged with spices” , there is strong dose of saffron and nutmeg, ginger too.
☆ Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose smells like Rose Water Cake with Pistachios and Macerated Plums , at least I smell plums .
☆ Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums sounds great, with the saffron, rise and raspberries.
There are two Navitus Parfums fragrances I already have , Vivamor and Serenade .A lot of famous perfumers worked with Navitus, Nuit Royale is made by master perfumer like Bertrand Duchaufour , I wonder what he cooked , Jorge Lee did great with Vivamor and Serenade .
☆ Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro
    Vibrant fragrance
☆ Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait (Anne-Sophie Behaghel):
Michelyn take on the fragrance made me think of Vanilla and Liquorice Cake with rose water , and some lipstick vibe.
I’ll be happy to win Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums
Appreciate Michelyn and Steven reviews, and the giveaway campaign

THanks for the fantastic writeup Michelyn and video Steven.

Rose is such a wonderful floral, so many nuances – jammy, creamy, sweet, floral, musky, with just the most heady scent. I miss the rose bushes in my garden at home.

I love Initio’s take on Atomic Rose which is a super sweet and jammy rose – it is absolutely rose on steroids.

I’ve been exploring Le Jardin Retrouvee’s sample and love what I’ve tried so far. Very classic perfumery with beautiful ingredients. I would love to try Rose Trocader.

    Cheers from WI, USA

Navitus Nuit Royale sounds very sensual and beautiufl with it’s use of blackcurrant and rose.

  • As usual I enjoyed Steve’s description of the fragrances that were covered. Based on his descriptions I would say if those available in the giveaway I would be most interested in the Navitus Nuit Royale. I live in the small town of Alpena Michigan, nice place to be, but not really anywhere here to shop for or experience new and exciting fragrances.
    Best Regards,
    Bruce Goodman

  • Love how Steven described every scent with such detail, every note and everything. Love how Michelyn described her relathionship with roses, SAME. I want to win Le Jardin Retrouve’s Rose Trocadero. The brand is lovely, their cards are beautiful every day inspo, and would love to actually try a scent from the house, that inspired them.

  • Beautiful roses I’m here for you

a)Amouage Lyric Man (Daniel Visentin) 2008
“Deep, complex, and multi-layered, Lyric Man dials back the smoky incense vibe of Lyric Woman in favor of a deep forest pine note tinged with spices.”

It’s not just the incense, the spices are different in Lyric Man , and Lyric Woman
Lyric Man -> saffron and nutmeg
Lyric Woman -> cardamom and a lot of cinnamon
I agree Lyric Man is spectacular and unisex, just like Lyric Woman.
    b)Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose
I know Rehab , it’s part of the Hedonist collection. One of my husband’s favorite fragrances. Atomic Rose sounds just as good , feels playful
    c)Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums
If I have to guess Nuit Royale is part of more exquisite line of Navitus Parfums fragrances. I can’t say no to raspberries, saffron and Bertrand Duchaufour.
d)Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro (Yuri Gutsatz, 1976 / adapted by Maxence Moutte for its 2016 re-release)
Natural rose with honey and musk
e)Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait (Anne-Sophie Behaghel):
Un Mot Extraitt is a special fragrance , I have a sample ❤
Other than the rose and violet, It’s woody, powdery, with buttery iris and nice amount of cassis .
I’d love to win Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • I really enjoyed reading Michelyn’s reviews and watching Steven’s video because I got to hear opinions about some perfumes that I tried (and they’re a bit different than mine) and got to know some new ones. Happy to see Amouage Lyric Man here as I love that beautiful creation!
Haven’t tried Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot so far, so it’d be amazing to win it. 🙂

  • Rose is one of my favorite flowers and aromas. As Michelyn mentioned in her introduction, the flower is usually associated with romance and seduction. However, there are so many varieties of rose fragrances. I have tried thousands of fragrances, but of course, I can’t test them all. I haven’t tested Amouage Lyric Man, but I absolutely love Lyric Woman. Based on Michelyn’s description, I may have to add Lyric Man to my test list. Initio’s Atomic Rose is atomic; it is strong and powerful, like most of their fragrances. I agree that one or two sprays go a long way. I have not tried Navitus Nuit Royale, but raspberry and rose go quite well together. I imagine this being a very beautiful rose fragrance. Rose Trocadero sounds like a very lovely rose fragrance. I have to agree that Jovoy Sans Un Mot is quite “under the radar”; I really don’t hear this fragrance discussed in the fragrance community. Rose, iris, and vanilla are one of my favorite note combinations and I love fragrances with a lipstick vibe.

I enjoyed watching Steven’s video. I have no doubt that Lyric Man is one of the highest-quality rose fragrances, even though I haven’t tested it. Amouage is one of my favorite houses and the quality is always amazing. I agree with Steven that Atomic Rose is a more flirtatious rose. I’m not surprised that Steven mentioned how natural the rose is in Rose Trocadero.

I would love the opportunity to own Jovoy Sans un Mot (first choice), Initio Atomic Rose (second choice), or Navitus Nuit Royale (third choice). Thank you to Michelyn and Steven for the great reviews, and thank you to the houses/distributors for the generous giveaways. I am located in the USA.

  • Atomic Rose
First choice second choice because I really liked Michelyn’s write up Le Jardin Retrouve
    USA

  • Excellent choices of rose perfumes for Valentine’s Day! Michelyn’s notes on Lyric Man make me wonder how many great perfumes I’ve passed up due to gendered naming conventions. Steven’s video is well-prepared with great descriptions as usual! His description of how the soft, billowy musk works with the natural rose in Rose Trocadero has me interested. If chosen, I would love to try Rose Trocadero.
    Best wishes from the US!

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I love Michelyn’s description of imagining Cleopatra wearing Sans Un Mot. I may have to get my nose on this one. I’ve not experienced Atomic Rose but I love Steven’s review and description of the addition of vanilla creating a more flirtatious aspect of rose. These all sound lovely. Between these two I think I would choose the Jovoy. Thank you for the chance to win! From the US.

  • Please count me in for the Jovoy. I know from this house only Rouge Assassin. I really like that one and I see it shares some similar notes with Sans un Mot. I am curious how similar and/or different are the two of them.
    Thanks! Europe

Excellent review by Michelyn and Steven. From all I enjoyed the detailed description of Steven and the beautiful paragraph about Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait, the vivid description of Cleopatra spraying this perfume to use it as her mastery seduction weapon makes me really curious about the how intoxicating this fragrant must be. From all of these wonderful fragrances, I must say will love to win, first Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose and off course the sexy one Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the draw, commenting from Orlando, Fl. USA.

  • Michelyn & Steven!!! I love learning about the history of our favorite Art from Michelyn! ❤️❤️❤️ Steven’s expert descriptions are always a go-to! ❤️❤️❤️
Rose is such a beautiful material and one that is so complex and multifaceted, just like love! I’m so delighted that Michelyn & Steven picked perfumes that really explore various dimensions of this King of Flowers! ❤️❤️ if I were a lucky winner, I’d select Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot (I’ve always wanted to experience this fragrance! I’ve heard so much about it)! ❤️ USA

  • once again Steven comes through with the perfect descriptions for this list. I have started to get more into rose fragrances here lately and the way Steven showed and described these definitely have me looking to add these to the collection. with the rose and black currant combo that he states is in Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot adn Le Jardin Retrouve Rose Trocadero im interested to see how it would last on my skin because I have not had the best of luck.
Now with Atomic Rose I know for sure Michelyn is very correct about the one or two sprays. This is a powerful fragrance. I have had the privilege of having a sample of this and instantly was in love. This was the fragrance that started my rose journey. That rose and vanilla combo just does it for me.

I live in Dallas, TX and if chosen I would like to win Atomic Rose by Initio

  • Love this article by Michelyn and Steven’s review. The I love the references to Cleopatra and Antony, I forget how much rose played in her lasting seduction of her love for him. Rose to me like Michelyn says has no smell when florist use roses, which is crazy because they are so beautiful but the rose forward fragrances that were chosen in the article are very captivating. I don’t know if I would like the pine in Lyric Man but I definitely will sample the fragrance.

I can enjoy the scent of a scented rose very much. Also, I can enjoy: certain rose-scented things, rose essential oil, and a lot of fragrances which include rose, e.g. Dolce and Gabbana “The One: Mysterious Night”, Milano Fragranze “Brera”, Issey Miyake “Or Encens”, and more. Michelyn’s review was certainly a reminder that I would want to try Amouage “Lyric Man”. I appreciated learning about all of those from Steven. I follow Cafleurebon on Instagram (@regismonkton) and I follow Steven on YouTube. I live in the U.S.A. and I’d like to be entered in the giveaway for all of the fragrances available in this order: 1)Initio Parfums Prives “Atomic Rose”, 2) Jovoy Paris “Sans Un Mot”, 3)Navitus Parfums “Nuit Royale”, 4)Le Jardin Retrouve “Rose Trocadero”. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  • I loved the way he described each fragrance. The introduction was well written and I love love love rose fragrances!
I live in Connecticut and I would like the Jovoy Paris!

  • Rose is one of my favorite notes , I love them sweet, spicy, smoky, more natural, I love them all.
Amouage Lyric Man (Daniel Visentin) 2008
Fragrances like Lyric Man you don’t smell often, unless you’re part of the Upper Class, or a price or princess in Oman .Journey Man and Interlude Black Iris are in my possession

    Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose
Fragrance with high compliment factor , with or without the pheromone releasing properties of Hedione. Being a vain man I need to smell good, but also compliments are important to me.
With Atomic Rose I’ll get a lot of positive attention, smelling amazing.

    Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums
I’m always ready for sensual deep and rich date time fragrances done right ✅
From Navitus I’m happy to have Absolutio , and Vivamor compliments galore, each and every time

Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro (Yuri Gutsatz, 1976 / adapted by Maxence Moutte for its 2016 re-release)
    More natural approach to rose

Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait (Anne-Sophie Behaghel):
I have not yet tried Sans Un Mot , but make sure I will. All the grown up , “lipstick vibe from the iris, and is sweetened by vanilla and licorice” characteristics are the reason.

After some ~20 minutes of hesitation , Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait would be my choice
    Exciting giveaway, USA

    Greetings everyone
    1. Amouage Lyric Man
I never thought of Lyric Man as French and Middle Eastern, but it’s truly deep and multi-layered , powdery too.
    2. Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose. Red , fruity and very strong rose fragrance. There is vanilla too ,but not too much of it
    3. Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums sounds really good with the rose ,and the raspberries.
    4. Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro
    Comforting rose with honey
    4. Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot
I like what Ms Camen said -Romance turned into scent- . I was at Jovoy yesterday looking to smell Amouage Attar fragrances first , and I’ve also smelled Sans Un Mot for the first time.
Unlike Ms Camen i do not smell the liquorice in Sans Un Mot , but cassis was very powerful. Maybe it’s from the cassis, the red wine smell is there too.
Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait I’d enjoy the most
Thank you , American living in Paris France

  • Rose fragrances always have a story to tell, some are sad, some joyful, some playful , just hop on the rose train that suits you, and enjoy the ride
Amouage Lyric Man (Daniel Visentin) 2008
I just recently sampled the fragrance, and some may find it masculine because of how soapy it is , and the soapy smell is lacking in Lyric Woman. Of course feel free to wear whatever suits your mood
    Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose
I own Oud for Greatness , considered by many the best Initio Parfums fragrance , and I’m sure I’ll enjoy Atomic Rose just as much. The first one is formal occasions, day time fragrance only, Atomic Rose I think was made for the night, going out with friends for example .
No wonder there’s hedione, high end seduction in a bottle is what I imagined
    Nuit Royale by Navitus Parfums
Navitus Prives Line if I have to guess , please review the whole new range. Nuit Royale i like because of the nose like Bertrand Duchaufour, and the fruity Moroccan rose
Le Jardin Retrouvé Rose Trocadéro (Yuri Gutsatz, 1976 / adapted by Maxence Moutte for its 2016 re-release)
Contemporary rose fragrance receiving love from both Michelyn and Steven
Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot Extrait (Anne-Sophie Behaghel):
The fragrance sounds so sensual, and because it’s Jovoy no doubt it’s well blended
If lucky, I’d like to win Initio Parfums Prives Atomic Rose
    Thanks for the draw

  • I have yet to purchase a rose heavy fragrance, or even stopped to think of a specific fragrance to dedicate to this love filled day. Thank you both for bringing these fragrances to our attention. The descriptions you both gave truly have me excited to wear one of these fragrances. I live in PA. I would be very excited to win either the 90ml of atomic rose or the 50ml of Un Mot. The love in the air will be from my sillage!

  • Out of the scents listed in the video I’ve only smelled atomic rose, and I love it, but I think I’d like Nuit Royale because I like raspberry scents a lot. I really love Stevens reviews and information on the notes of each scent, I think he’s one my favs to watch when it comes to perfumes. I think I’d love Nuit Royale. I’m from New York.

  • The affects of the Hedione on the brain is incredible! I’m very interested in this topic overall! I would be most interested in the Initio Atomic Rose and feel it would be a great addition as I don’t have many rose-centric fragrances in my small collection. I live in St. Petersburg, FL.

  • Great list for Valentines day and fun introduction Michelyn! Rose scents rarely work for me, which is surprising considering the extensive and longtime use of rose in perfumery, but if it’s good enough for Cleo and Marc it should be good enough for me.

Michelyn’s blurb about Lyric Man caught my attention; smoky incense, pine, and spices sound like the rose blend for me. (And I agree—don’t worry about gendered perfumes, because you’re the only one that will know.) I’m also intrigued by your #1 Sans Un Mot. The licorice note probably takes this musky rose in an interesting direction.

As usual, another detailed video from Steven. I like how he compared the feel or sensibilities of each fragrance, and also the strength of the rose note in each relative to the overall blend.

I’m in the USA. I’d love to win the 50 ml of Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot. I follow @cafleurebonofficial on Instagram.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Excellent descriptions by Steven and Michelyn. Steven’s description of Initio’s Atomic Rose as natural smelling juicy and sweeter rose, sexy and flirtatious. Enjoyed Michelyn’s intro, perfect for Valentine’s Day theme, centered around rose based fragrances. Loved her description of Jovoy’s Sans un Mot as romance transformed into scent. Pure seduction, sexy, musky rose with a lipstick vibe. My first choice would be 1)Initio Atomic Rose, 2)Jovoy Sans un Mot, 3) Nuit Royale by Navitus. Thank you for the opportunity. TX USA

  • sephrenia300 says:

Really interesting picks! What I enjoyed about Steven’s video on the best rose perfumes for Valentine’s day was how he described one of my favorite roses of all time Amouage Lyric as a dynamic and complex interplay between bright lime, rich rose and a calming, leveling incence. What I enjoyed about Michelyn’s introduction was learning about how seductively musky a rose Jovoy Paris Sans Un Mot is, and how she compares it to a love potion that Cleopatra might wear in her boudour to seduce Marc Antony. That sounds like the perfect fragrance to me!

I live in the US. If I were to win, my first choice would be Atomic Rose. My second choice would be Nuit Royale, my third choice would be Sans Un Mot and my fourth would be Rose Trocadero.
