Top Ten Valentine’s Day Perfumes 2023 + (Part 1) sensual and romantic giveaways

Best Valentine's Day Perfumes

Top 10 Valentine’s Day Perfumes by Steven

For me, Valentine’s Day is one of those “Hallmark Holidays” targeted by marketers to induce you to send cards and to give gifts, often flowers and chocolates. I have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day since, like New Year’s Eve, it feels forced. Whether you are spending February 14th with a lover, partner, friends or on your own, in Steven and my part one co-curated Top Ten Valentine’s Day perfumes for 2023, we chose five fragrances that feature three ingredients known for their romantic and sensual qualities: chocolate, rose and musk. – Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Throughout history chocolate has been touted as a stimulant, to prepare for war and as an aphrodisiac. Chocolate contains some of the chemicals produced by the brain when we fall in love, which might be one of the reasons it is so popular as a gift for Valentine’s Day and such an addictive note in perfumery. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Montale Chocolate Greedy smells terrific… like chocolate cake in liquid form. It is so rich you think you must have eaten the whole thing but you don’t have a stomach ache. – Steven and Michelyn

Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir was composed by Harry Fremont and Jacques Cavallier for the Private Label Collection in 2007 and like all the fragrances on this list, smells great on both men and women. It is sweet, chocolaty, and flavorful. Rose, saffron, and truffle enhance the blend while adding to the sensual personality of the perfume. –Michelyn and Steven

Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart (Christophe Laudamiel): This fragrance lives up to its name.  It is my number one choice, because wearing MeltMyHeart REALLY melts my heart (and anyone around me every time I wear it). I wore the EDP on a date recently, and it must have been my perfume that prompted him to say, “Let’s skip dessert!”, (I sent him packing, but he keeps sliding into my dms). The dusty cocoa¸ an overdose of buttery orris (one of the most expensive ingredients in the world) and ylang feel plush and creamy and are intertwined in a sensual (sustainable) oud embrace. More important than pleasing others, it reminds me that I wear perfume for myself. I feel more “me” wearing it, and that is everything you can ever want-Michelyn

The Empress Josephine Bonaparte loved musk and used it abundantly—so much so that the walls of her boudoir retained the smell for decades. Legend has it Napoleon wrote her in a letter, “Home in three days, don’t bathe.”- Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk (Ramone Monegal) 2022: “When I wear Attractone Musk it’s the law of attraction, desire and a connection with life that is communicated via myself.”-Ramon Monegal. Attractone Musk attracts either on its own or layered with other perfumes. There is a sultry quality to this gorgeous musky floral. Red hot at the top, the jasmine is carnal and indolic, the sweetness of kiss is hinted at with the red lipstick vibe from raspberry but wait there is an ocean breeze moving in until the “my skin but better dry down” of a mélange of musk. Notes include  Ozonic, Aldehydes, Baies rose, Cumin, Cashmeran, Jasmine, Lily of the valley, Lilac, Cyclamen, SandalwoodMusk cocktail, Amber,  and Raspberry -Michelyn

Rogue Perfumery Rostracto (Manuel Cross) 2022: There are roses… and there are roses gone rogue. Rostracto was one of Sr Editor Karl Topham’s TOP TEN Perfumes of 2022, so it seems fitting I quote from his review, “imagine the contrast of caressing a rose’s velvety petal then being caught by the spitefulness of its thorn.” If you are a fan of neo-vintage fragrances especially those where only the finest quality ingredients are used, Rostracto is a must for Valentine’s Day… or any day. This is Steven’s #1 pick.  Notes include: Bulgarian Rose Absolute, Fir Balsam Absolute, Artemisia, Benzoin ResinCharred CedarMuskKarl, Michelyn and Steven

  • I love Chocolate Greedy and just got a full bottle for myself during the holidays. It is delicious! It smells like that first whiff of goodness after prying open a tin of cocoa powder.

I am dying to try MeltMyHeart so I am crossing my fingers that I am lucky. I am in the US!

  • ramsesperez52 says:

I agree with Michelyn in that Valentine’s Day feels forced at times. I’m single myself so Valentine’s Day is always spent with me and my friends. Plus the cliche of always giving flowers and chocolates, maybe it’s time to start giving fragrances. The Ramon Monegal fragrance is catching my attention. I like how Michelyn calls it about attraction, connection and desire. I also like how Steven described it as creamy and sensual, which are my favorites and that it will work well on a date as it is very long lasting (10 hours). I would like to win a bottle of Ramon Monegal Attractone Musk and I’m located in the USA (NJ)

  • I enjoyed how complex let easily understandable Michelyn’s reviews were. They were absolutely incredible with lots of details and intriguing facts. Her introduction was definitely a fantastic way to get to know more about Valentine’s Day perfumes. Steven’s video was in my opinion very helpful and professionally filmed. I love his videos, they are really interesting. I would like to win: a 30 ml bottle of Rostracto by Rogue Perfumery, 15 ml of Meltmyheart and a 50 ml bottle of Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • LATONYA GIPSON-BOWMAN says:

Meltmyheart, sounds simply delicious from the description Michelyn gave and the video from Steven….they made it sound edible. I would love to win this one. I live in Orlando Florida, USA

  • Of course i celebrate Valentines Day! A perfect ocassion not only to celebrate love, but to wear (as the video suggests) sensual and flirty fragrance!
Chocolate, Rose, Musk…all sensual notes perfect for the ocassion! I personally love musk in particular for romantic fragrance wearing.
If i win this draw, i would pick Ramon Monegal’s Musk fragrance Atractone.
    I am in the US.

  • From the opening reviews I was drawn to meltmyheart. If it’s Michelyn’s number one that’s good enough for me. From the video I was drawn closer to meltmyheart. I want that orris. For the draw I choose meltmyheart. US

  • Valentine’s Day!!!! I love love gourmand fragrances but don’t have many…Montal chocolate greedy sounds delicious!!!! I loved “let’s skip dessert “!!!! I enjoyed so much how Michelyn described Melt my Heart…. It made immediately want to blind buy it!!!! It sounded so sensual and delicious!!!! I would love to get Melt my heart in first place and the Rostracto and Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk. Fingers crossed!!!! I’m from Massachusetts, US.

  • I loved how Michelyn’s introduction and descriptions were both personal and factual, giving insights about different notes in the history of perfumery and even anecdotes like the one about Bonaparte, while Steven’s review was more concrete, with a precise note breakdown.
All three frags generously offered in the giveaway sound wonderful to me, so I would love to win any of the three: Rostracto for its abstract, yet sensual rose, meltmyheart for its realistic and cuddly buttery chocolate or Attractone Musk, well, for one of my favorite notes par excellence, which is the musk (plus the indolic Jasmine, another favorite).
My partner and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day, we are a little bit “anti-capitalistic” from one point of view.
    Commenting from the EU.
    Thanks!

  • RonaldProkes17 says:

I agree with Michelyn about Valetine’s feeling a bit too forced. But I really enjoyed how Michelyn and Steven both defined and explained how each of these perfumes highlight a different aspect or romance and sensuality. I loved the personal touch in Michelyn’s story 😉 And I couldn’t agree more – I also wear perfume for nobody but myself and why should Valentine’s day scents be any different. It’s about self expression rather than impressing someone else. I’ve been wanting to try a strangelovenyc fragrance for some time now and would love to try meltmyheart.

What I loved about Steven’s review of Rostracto is that the perfume seems to capture both the beauty and danger of a rose. I love how tactile Steven was with the review.

It goes without saying that I’d love to try Melt My Heart from strangelovenyc and Rostracto by Rogie Perfumery.

    Located in the US!

  • These reviews pair well! Michelyn giving us the feel of the fragrances and Steven breaking down the notes in them. It’s a good way to understand them! And you’ve both made me hungry!! Lol
I would love to win all, but my top pick is Rostracto by Rogue Perfumery,
    In USA thank you.

  • I would choose the Rogue perfumery Rostraco.
    I love your reviews.
    The Napoleon quote is timeless.
    Thanks for all you do.

  • Katie Hobson says:

Oh My Gosh, I am so right there with you on your mixed feelings about Valentines Day.
When you are young and newly in Love, sure it can be good and fun but later in life you see it for what it is and can handle the day after deals. Lol
Your words and descriptions always take me on such a lovely roller coaster of emotions. Some fragrances of course strike a chord with my tastes and style more than others but some make me wonder how it smells all together and then I just long to smell it. Having said that StrangeLoveNYC MeltMyHeart Sounds Absolutely To Die For!!!!!!!!!!

  • Scents created by Manuel Cross are perfectly ideal for my preference in what perfume should smell like, “Neo-Vintage with highest quality ingredients “ as our reviewers termed it. And that will exceed any reasons or occasions to wear besides Valentine’s Day. Actratone Musk sounds very convincing too. I would love to have either one of the two for I wear perfume only for myself, not even for my valentine!
    From Staten Island, NY

  • On the same page with Michelyn on this one. You don’t need a special holiday to show your love to your special other – that has to be shown everyday!
From the prize list, since I am in EU, I qualify for each, so I don’t have a favorite that I would like to win. Anything is ok as each of them has something special and interesting about it. Thanks and good luck to everyone!

  • I never put much thought into Valentine’s day aside from the clearance chocolates afterwards, but hey, I appreciate an excuse to eat more dessert and put fresh flowers on display!

Loved how Michelyn described how MeltMyHeart feels to wear – PLUSH is the keyword here! Cocoa, orris, ylang, oud, wow. It sounds irresistible. Christophe Laudamiel puts out such creative and technically impressive work as a perfumer, I am beyond curious to see what he could composed with such luxurious and romantic ingredients. Meanwhile, Steve’s wholehearted endorsement of Rostracto as a standout caught my attention, but as a rose and fir balsam lover you don’t have to do much to convince me! It sounds like a perfume I would be very happy to share with my partner. I really need to look more into Rogue perfumery, “vintage” inspired with quality ingredients is a recipe for success.

I would probably scream (happily) if I won Strangelove NYC meltmyheart but I would be almost equally delighted to win Rogue Rostracto. I’m in the US, thanks for the awesome draw!

  • Michelyn’s and Steven’s pick are on point. They all Speak attention, sexy, and Chocolate. My choice would be Ramon Monegal Attractone. The musk scent has also been an attraction to me. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Ramon Monegal has been on my list of wants for a while now and Attractone Musk sounds like something I would love. Rose Sandalwood, Musk cocktail, Amber, and Raspberry gives it that sensual appeal. I’m not a Valentines Day person so I agree with Michelyn on it feeling forced. Steven’s video and description are always precise and clear. If I won I would love Ramon Monegal.Attractone Musk

    Indiana USA

  • Valentine’s Day…. Here we go.
Michelyn is right about Hallmatk holiday.

All the descriptions are very romantic, alluring, seductive.
Thanks to Steven for sharing his knowledge on his video, to describe the fragrances.

Any of the giveaways would be nice to win. I really would like to get my hands on Rostracto by Rogue Perfumery. Manuel Cross creations are described so vividly that I wish I can try them soon.

    From Massachusetts.

  • Really enjoyed these reviews from both Steven and Michelyn. Montale Chocolate sounds incredible, and based on the other fragrances by Montale there is no doubt that the quality is there. First time hearing about Noir de noir by Tom Ford but will definitely need to try a sample next time I go shopping. Rouge perfumery has been on many top ten list that I’ll probably need to buy a sample set. I have never heard of Strangelove nor Ramon Monegal, but the fragrances that they have created have interested me the most. Based on Steven’s review, the dark chocolatey and woody combination in Meltmyheart with the creamy yland sounds like an incredible combination (with extremely long longevity). If I were to win I would love to have a sample of Meltmyheart by Strangelove

  • Based on Stevens review I really liked the way he described Attractone Musk with its florals, of course Musk, but also the creamy sandalwood he mentioned. Michelyn mentioned the raspberry as well giving a lipstick vibe which I love. Also, his description Rostracto and its high quality rose thats very natural also sounds nice. The perfume that is most interesting to me is Meltmyheart. I loved what Michelyn had to say about it, the date saying let’s skip desert but getting the boot and still sliding in the dms! But also the buttery orris, dusty cacao and ylang feeling plush and creamy while being embraced by oud really sounds great, and Steven mentioned its excellent longevity as well. I’ve very much wanted to try this perfume since I first learned of the brand and this fragrance here from Cafleurebon. I have sampled and didn’t love Chocolate Greedy. Both Steven’s review where he mentioned 2 things he associates with Valentines day, chocolate and rose, both being in noir de noir and Michelyn’s mention of it being made even more sensual by saffron and truffle notes do make it sound nice and I’ve heard great things about it. Thank u for the very generous draw, from the U.S. If I was to win I would absolutely love to win Strangelove NYC Meltmyheart. My girl and I will most likely stay in on Valentines Day and just spend it together, that’s all that really matters to us. Wishing everyone a Hapoy Valentines Day!

  • Nikolina_84 says:

These are some very interesting choices! I was sure it would be all about roses, but the list surprised me positively.
Based on Michelyn’s and Steven’s reviews, I’m now putting these fragrances on my “to try” list: Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart (Christophe Laudamiel): ThisStrangelove NYC MeltMyHeart (Christophe Laudamiel): Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir & Montale Chocolate Greedy.
My choice is Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk.
    Hugs from Croatia, EU.

  • I think girls are more into Valentines Day. If it were for me, I wouldn’t feel the need to have a particular day to celebrate my love, this should be showed on any given day without a special occasion. You sum it up very well saying that it feels like “Hallmark Holidays” 🙂
Leaving this aside and focus on romantic perfumes, I have and agree with Noir de Noir, it’s very appropriate to be seen as a good Valentines Day perfume.
All 3 draws sound very good, I don’t know which one I would chose!
    I’m in the EU.

  • These sound wonderful, but out of the bunch, the Ramon Monegal i think it’s the best. I love that house! greetings from Romania!

  • Christos GX says:

Chocolate greedy is amazing and it really smells like chocolate and cookies to me.Amour de cacao would also be a great choice for valentines,if someone wants to smell like a milk chocolate or roses and chocolate another great one. I really enjoyed reading about Meltmyheart and the impression that left on the date, but i think it would suit best a female. For me the one that i would love to smell is Attractone, so i can feel that connection and desire with life that was described in the review. I live in Greece, Eu.

  • Rogue Perfumery Rostracto (Manuel Cross) 2022: There are roses… and there are roses gone rogue. Notes include: Bulgarian Rose Absolute, Fir Balsam Absolute, Artemisia, Benzoin Resin, Charred Cedar, Musk–Karl, Michelyn and Steven. I agree with Steven Valentines day feels forced and clichéd. I am intrigued by the notes especially Rose, Cedar and Musk. Both great choices by Michelyn and Steven. I would love to win Rostracto by Rogue Perfumery. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Great review by Steven and Michelyn. I have got Chocolate Greedy on my wishlist. Michelyn description just piqued my interest. The fact that Steven no 1 choice Rostracto just says it all. I am intrigued by the notes in Rostracto by Rogue. If I am successful I would like to win Rogue Perfumery Rostracto. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

Steven and michelyn both make the rogue roses sound so deep and complex. They both know how how to peak my interest. I love roses and would hope to win the rogue! I live in Indiana

  • Both Steven review/recommemdation & Michelyns date description I willneed to check out the StrangeLove. It sounds delicious. However I am won over by the neovintage quality of Rostracto. I live in the US

  • Michelyn’s reviews are always a pleasure to read and I catch almost every video from Steven. I’m curious about these as I love these types of scents. I would like to win the 50 ml bottle of Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk. New Jersey, USA

  • I enjoyed reading about your favorites for Valentine’s Day. Noir de Noir is one of my favs. I didn’t know that chocolate was used “as a stimulant, to prepare for war.” Steven mentioned bitter orange in Chocolate Greedy….sounds delicious. If lucky, I’d choose Atractone Musk, Rostracto or Meltmyheart. All sound wonderful. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • José Ramírez says:

Amazing selection! I really do not take Saint Valentine that serious, cause I agree that it feels kinda forced to promete consume, but here we are

  • I agree that Valentines day if an artificial and commercial holiday.
Chocolate on the other hand, is a love worth celebrating everyday! I definitely enjoy a little bit of dark chocolate daily. I would love to win Meltmyheart. I’m in the USA.

  • A Tom Ford fragrance would be amazing as I haven’t owned a fragrance from the brand, Noir de Noir sounds amazing.
    Greetings from Slovenia, EU

  • Montales CG is a choco-bomb, but a great lift me up frag that I use when im in a bad mood to chear me. V day definitely feels forced. I feel in love with the way Melt my heart was described, would love to win, im from EU

  • I always like Michelyn’s introductions to perfumes because of the personal touches and historical tidbits she provides in her introductions. Steven of course gives his personal impressions along with comparisons with other perfumes, how the bottles look and perform, etc. All three of the perfumes in this generous giveaway sound lovely, but I am drawn to Strangelove meltmyheart, as I have heard so much about this brand and this particular perfume. So meltmyheart would be my first choice were I to win this draw. I am a Redolessence subscriber and am in the continental United States.

  • “I have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day since, like New Year’s Eve, it feels forced.”

I’m not sure about New Year’s Eve, but I 100% agree about Valentine’s Day, it is forced. If you love someone, there shouldn’t be one particular day only , to show your appreciation.
Napoleon story is actually a fact, not just a legend.
As usual I’ll share my thoughts on the fragrances, and compare my views, with what Michelyn and Steven are getting. I’ll start with the way Steven showed the fragrances in his video:

Noir de Noir by Tom Ford
Die hard Tom Ford fanboy, and I’m happy to have vintage 250ml decanter of Noir de Noir. Fantastic fragrance

    Atractone Musk by Ramon Monegal
The thing i like the most is the contrast between the delicate floral-fruity parts, and the slightly carnal undertones. I’m sensitive to jasmine, if it’s too carnal and indolic, and to me Atractone Musk is well balanced.

Chocolate Greedy by Montale was my yesterday’s SOTD , it is terrific indeed, but to me is more powdery, dusty and the orange peel is well pronounced.

    Meltmyheart by Strangelove NYC
To me by very far the best -Strangelove NYC fragrance. Chocolate, oud , lots of nutmeg and powderyness , slightly buttery too.

“More important than pleasing others, it reminds me that I wear perfume for myself. I feel more “me” wearing it, and that is everything you can ever want-Michelyn”

I too always wear perfume for my own pleasure only, but I also believe Meltmyheart is attention grabber too , the wearer will always get noticed with such levels of quality.

Rostracto by Rogue Perfumery is a wild fragrance to me , true untamed rose , you don’t just get the petals, but the sharp thorns , the soil , everything.
What surprised me, is that the the scent is also really smoky, and Steven and Michelyn never said anything hinting about smoke
Since Steven decided to let us know about his favorites from Manuel Cross, I’ll do too:
    1. Derviche
    3. Derviche II
    3. Tabac Vert/Rostracto

I’d like to win Meltmyheart by Strangelove NYC
All profiles I already follow, @waltherp99bg
    Thanks a lot

  • Oh boy, I just love Valentines Day and I have been celebrating it since I met my partner 3 years ago.
I love chocolate based and very sweet fragrances on Valentine, so I think that Meltmyheart, Chocolate Greedy are fantastic options for the date. I have tried them and they really killer fragrances. I hope I can get my nose on the other fragrances.
I hope I could win Rostracto by Rogue Perfumery, Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk or Meltmyheart, in that order of priority, but I would be happy if I win any.
    I am in the US.

  • I love both chocolate and roses so I’m delighted Valentine season is upon us! From Michelyn and Steve’s list, I have only sampled the Tom Ford Noir de Noir. I was gifted a decanted by a kind fellow perfume lover. It’s a decadent experience. From the remainder of the list, I would love either Rostracto or meltmyheart. Both sound floral forward and romantic. MD,USA.

  • Thanks to both Michelyn Camen and Steven Gavrielatos for the reviews. All sound great but the best is Strangelove MELTMYHEART. Here local Pakistani perfumer created a derivative of it and atm I’m enjoying wearing it.
Can’t participate in the draw due to countries restriction, my bad. However thanks for the article and your generosity.
    Love from Pakistan

  • I would love to win MeltMyHeart! The edible notes sound so sexy and Valentine’s Day appropriate! I live in the US!

  • I’m truly grateful to have my husband, who’s making me feel , like i’m in a constant , every day Valentine’s Day loop ❤

    a) Montale Chocolate Greedy i own , more dusty than liquid is how i think it smells
    b) Tom Ford Noir de Noir, simply gorgeous. I always wear it on New Years Eve
    c) From Meltmyheart i expect bold, but not harsh unapologetic fragrance with natural oud and chocolate , buttery iris , and as a whole joyful experience
    d) White Chocolate Raspberry Martini seductive potion , made by Ramon Monegal, what I expect from Atractone Musk.
    e) I was curious about all the positive attention Rogue Perfumery received last 2 years, and decided to buy the official sample set from their own website. Rostracto came out arround a week after i received the samples , I’m sure it’s one of those scents that grabs you , and don’t want to let go of you.

I’d love to win Strangelove NYC Meltmyheart
I’ll treat myself with White Chocolate Raspberry Martini , Cheers and thank you for the opportunity

  • ‘It’s all about the memories that evokes and the personal connections that people make’ when using a fragrance. With this, Steven synthesized the whole Perfume philosophy.
Michelyn’s introduction and descriptions are very easy to read and brings valuable information and a great pleasure, as always.
Valentines Day is a good reason to try some romantic perfumes.
I would love to win any of the listed perfumes: Rostracto by Rogue Perfumery, Meltmyheart by Strange Love NYC or Ramon Monegal Attractone Musk.
    Hugs from Romania

  • Michelyn and Steven!!! ❤️❤️❤️ These are GREAT picks!!! MeltMyHeart is SO SO SO Gorgeous!!! To DIE for! ❤️❤️❤️ A Huge Love! What makes it even better is Michelyn’s “sent him packing” story! I Love Rogue fragrances! Rostracto is SO lovely! What Amazing choices!!! I’ve not smelled the Ramone Monegal fragrance Atractone Musk, but it sounds Fantastic! Steven’s description really won me over! If I were a lucky winner, I’d be SO Happy with Any of these!! ❤️ USA

  • As always, I really enjoyed both Michelyn’s reviews and Stevens video – I learned more about some fragrances I’m interested in (Montale, Monegal) and got to know about some I’m not familiar with.
Based on all said, I would be happy to win Ramon Monegal’s perfume.

  • Very beautiful and romantic choices for this year’s iteration of Top 10 Valentine’s Day Perfumes. I have wanted to get my nose on the Strangelove perfumes, but they are very expensive. Gladly, Cafleurebon comes to my aid, as usual. I would love to win Meltmyheart by Strangelove NYC. Thanks.

    I reside in Sweden, EU.

  • Since my wife and I split I am going to spend Valentine’s Day with my buddies
I wear fragrance for myself too
Choices are Rostracto and Melt my heart

  • Steven is the best at explaining how a fragrance smells and it’s notes. He’s so easy to watch too. Michelyn is a great writer and I learned that musk was worn by Josephine and chocolate as love qualities
Melt my heart and ATRACTONE Musk
    USA

  • I enjoyed hearing the cheeky story about Michelyn’s date. MeltMyHeart sounds incredible and is one of those perfumes high on a pedestal. I would love to win this one. I also liked Steven’s comment about how a perfume (Attractone Musk) doesn’t have to be very sweet to be unforgettable. I appreciate how musks can be mutable depending on who wears them and you remember the person more than the perfume. I would also be thrilled to win this one. Rogue perfumery makes some divine scents and I recently discovered I love rose mixed with fir balsam so this would be a joy to win as well! Thanks for the chance.

  • Meltmyheart would make a perfect gift to my special other. Please count me in as it has some of her favorites notes and I am sure she will greatly enjoy it!
    Thank you! Europe

  • Ordereddeadofnight and went on to buy the sample set from strangelove.
Jasmine and blackberry in Atractone Musk and that it is not sweet and good for warm weather makes it a great pick for me cause I live in Florida
I really like Rogue Perfumery Bon Monsieur own a bottle so I would like to try his rose and Steven said it’s not sweet

  • Loved Stephen’s tone describing meltmyheart, it really sounded like he loved it. And Michelyn’s comment about feeling more herself wearing it. It’s the one I’d prefer – and after that, Rostracto. I’m in the EU.

  • I am a gourmand lover, so what I love about Valentines day fragrances is the fact that they tend to have a gourmand aspect to them. I have Chocolate Greedy already, Meltmyheart is my holy grail chocolate fragrance so of I win I want Meltmyheart. I am in the USA

  • Thanks for the review Michelyn and Steven!

I can’t believe it’s almost time for Valentine already! I will have to look for a great gift and these recommendations are start!
The perfect fragrances for us are the ones we can enjoy on each other. We have this with most Musk fragrances as well as Rose fragrances so Rostracto and Atractone Musk instantly caught my attention.

If Steven considers Rostracto his best release, then I am starting to get really excited. I have gone through Mousse Illuminee and Bon Monsieur and have enjoyed them thoroughly so my expectations are very high!

I would love to win Rostracto!
    Greetings from the UK!

Personally I don’t need a special day to show love and appreciation to my girlfriend, and the people I care about . Michelyn do have a point when she said Valentine’s Day feels a bit forced.
-Montale Chocolate Greedy I own for many years , sweet, dusty chocolate dessert kind of fragrance
-Tom Ford Noir de Noir is one of the first expensive fragrances that I bought.
-Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart (Christophe Laudamiel) is special really complex scent, going through a lot of phases. Well-balanced gourmand for grown-ups
-Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk , the mixture is mysterious, and inviting at the same time.
-Rogue Perfumery Rostracto I like the way Bulgarian rose , the fir balsam , and resins are complimenting each other. Rostracto feels smooth and refined, but also not hiding its temperamental, and volatile character.
Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart would be great
Thank you Michelyn , Steven , and all the brands

  • If Rostracto is Steven first pick it’s mine too
I liked Michelyn’s intro and great story about Meltmyheart and dessert. Would like to win that too

  • I’ve read a lot of good things about Rostracto on this site before and Michelyns and Stevens reviews really amplified this with Michelyn describing it as a fragrance where “only the finest quality ingredients are used” and it getting first place in Stevens video review. I would love to enter the giveaway for this one.

    I am from Sweden

  • Michelyn, I’m with you. Valentine’s Day feels forced to me too. I’m happily married but my husband and I have never truly celebrated the holiday. It’s too contrived. That said, it doesn’t stop me from wearing perfume that matches the holiday! Both Michelyn and Steven’s description made me want to try Strangelove’s Meltmyheart. I’m kicking myself because I had the chance to smell it at Indigo Perfumery yesterday and completely forgot! If I was to win the giveaway this is the fragrance I would want. ~Indiana, USA

although I like to eat chocolate [not smell like it], care for the roses [not smell like’em], I’m sure there is, out there, one perfume that I’d wear – chocolatey or rosey, or -why not – both. maybe even one of these, featured in this post.
no, i don’t celebrate V day, and yes, I’d like to win Melt my heart – but let’s not skip dessert :)) [living in Europe].

  • All these fragrances sound lovely but Meltmyheart sounds especialy up my alley. I love how Michelyn describes the orris butter, which is a note I love, and the contrast with with a dusty cocoa sounds really unique. I also like how Steven described the oud note, which I think would balance the sweetness of the chocolate. I don’t normally celebrate valentine’s day except for maybe cooking a special meal at home, but I’d love to win a bottle of Meltmyheart! I’m in MN, USA and a Redolessence subscriber.

  • My girlfriend is awesome, I do spend a lot of time at my bakery, and I strongly believe other girls would’ve kicked me out already 🙂
☆Montale Chocolate Greedy is terrific, and Cake like , no questions asked. I can say it smells like Tiramisu
☆ Tom Ford Noir de Noir i finally tried in October. Dark and slightly bitter Dark Chocolate Truffle Cake, with real rose water, and lots of saffron is how it smells. I even got the 100ml bottle
☆ Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart (Christophe Laudamiel)
Chocolate Butter Cake with orange peel jam ,and iris
☆ Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk is a fragrance people need to try on themselves first. I did , and I think the scent is kind of abstract , it’s slightly fruity sweet , bitter , salty , and playful all at once.
    ☆ Rogue Perfumery Rostracto
Rogue Perfumery sample set is now in my possession , and neo-vintage , or not , Rostracto is hard to describe , unconventional rose fragrance, I’ve never smelled anything like it .
Rose , pine needles, incense and natural fruity sweetness that reminds me of Pomegranate molasses I love cooking with, it’s quite popular in Canada, and amongst Mediterranean countries, not so much in US.You can definitely call Rostracto raw .

I’ll be happy to win Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart
Appreciate Michelyn and Steven reviews, and the giveaway campaign

  • I agree with Michelyn in that Valentine’s Day feels forced at times.
Love Michelyn’s reviews and intrigued by her MeltMyHeartwith orris overdose!
Is was interesting to hear Steven’s detailed review about all perfumes, especially MeltMyHeart.
I would like to win MeltMyHeart or Ramon Monegal perfume.

  • Michelyn makes some good points about Valentines Day. For the reasons she mentioned, my wife and I prioritize having silly fun that day, versus all the rigamarole and consumerism.

Speaking to this list, I like the symbolism of your selections. The first three probably aren’t for me (I don’t really like smelling like a confection), but Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk sounds lovely (my wife loves indolic jasmines too) and I enjoy Rostracto’s woody-smoky take on rose. As always, great blurbs, and I noted Michelyn’s take on wearing perfumes for yourself and feeling “more ‘me’ wearing it.” That’s how I feel about fragrances most days too.

I also enjoyed Steven’s video. His comments about Atractone Musk stood out, when he mentioned sensuality in a perfume is extremely subjective, tied to memory and the connections people make when they spray it. Great point. Also, I love that Rostracto made it to the top of his list, because it’s another Rogue winner.

I’m in the USA. I’d love to win the 30 ml bottle of Rogue Perfumery Rostracto or the 50 ml bottle of Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk. Thanks!

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Steven’s video as well as Michelyn’s Intro and review on the Top 10 Valentine’s Day Fragrances Pt. 1. Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir is a classic rose and chocolately patchouli fragrance that’s timeless. Ramone Monegal Atractone Musk sounds like a beautiful musk based fragrance. Strangelove NYC MeltmyHeart sounds like a beautiful gourmand leaning fragrance that I have always wanted to try. Rogue Perfumery Rostracto sounds absolutely perfect and I’ve always been a fan of Chocolate Greedy. I agree with Michelyn about all the marketing ploys that go into Valentine’s Day with all the candy, chocolate, flowers, and gifts. I do celebrate Valentine’s Day with my wife, so we can have a nice quiet date night together. I would like to win Ramon Monegal Attractone, Rogue Perfumery Extracto, and Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart. I am from the USA.

  • Beautiful reviews from Michelyn and Steven!
Not fan of Montale, but Chocolate Greedy is lovely and find Michelyn short review funny (stomach problems).
Like Steven description of Melmyheart- so rich perfume in notes.
Would like to win Ramon Monegal or Meltmyheart.

  • There are 2 fragrances from your 5 Valentine’s Day perfumes (Part1) i already have , Montale Chocolate Greedy and Tom Ford Noir de Noir
Montale Chocolate Greedy is one of the best from the house , chocolate attention grabber

Tom Ford Noir de Noir is date time fragrance only for me. It’s both romantic and seductive

    Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart (Christophe Laudamiel)
Really fun unexpected date review ☺
Strangelove NYC is artistic niche brand that stands out with really limited edition products. I respect such approach.Meltmyheart is sophisticated lovers fragrance.

Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk i think is opulent and sexy ambery-floral fragrance , with light oceanic feel.

Rogue Perfumery Rostracto checks all the boxes, unprocessed but inviting rose , with high compliment factor. The parity between the rose smell , the conifer notes , and the other ingredients seems like I’d enjoy a lot.

After some hesitation , Strangelove NYC Meltmyheart would be my choice
    Exciting giveaway, USA

  • Love is in the air! I like how both Michelyn and Steven conjured the images of all the perfumes. I’d like to win Meltmyheart, love the name, and the perfume sounds even better. I live in the EU.

  • Dproductive1 says:

Steven has a nack for describing a fragrance in ways that make me want to give them another chance, as if I missed something in prior wearings( Noir de Noir and Chocolate Greedy). I agree with Michelyne 100% about the marketing of Valentines Day.
And her ” roses gone rouge ” line is classic.

  • wandering_nose says:

I like how Michelyn illustrates the fragrances she describes. She paints very true-to-life pictures, oftentimes using personal parallels, like recalling her date where she wore MeltMyHeart. The perfume must have truly worked on her companion! I love Stephen’s enthusiasm about MeltMyHeart, and the way he describes the notes makes me swoon. Both Michelyn and Stephen also managed to pique my curiosity about Rostracto: an intimate neo-vintage perfume using the finest ingredients, coming from the genius that Manuel Cross is.

    My picks would be:
    1. Rostracto
    2. MeltMyHeart
    3. Atractone Musk

    Thank you from the EU

I think that it’s interesting that “Melt my heart” is a favorite of Michelyn’s: I’d like to see what it’s like. I appreciate Steven’s input on it also and I’d like to see what the chocolate note in it is like. I appreciate hearing about its good longevity. I hope to win any of the fragrances which are for the giveaway, especially “Melt my heart”. I live in the U.S.A.

  • “I sent him packing, but he keeps sliding into my dms”
Hahaha ha , I almost dropped my hot chocolate on the floor Wow

Hubby said he’ll surprise me for Valentines Day , let’s see what happens 😉

Montale Chocolate Greedy I haven’t smelled in years, but I remember well. Chocolate Cake in a liquid form is a good way to describe it. It’s also a long lasting fragrance.
Tom Ford Noir de Noir is so sensual,
    and well blended
Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart (Christophe Laudamiel) high end seduction in a bottle
Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk is sexy , musky and fruity
Rogue Perfumery Rostracto is rose fragrance, which an edge
If lucky, I’d like to win Strangelove NYC Meltmyheart
Thanks for the laugh, and the draw

With both Steven’s and Michelyn’s reviews of these fragrances, I know I’d enjoy all of them. However, Michelyn’s experience with MeltMyHeart has caught my attention. If her date was willing to “skip dessert”, it must be one wonderfully decadent scent :)…and of course, my 1st choice of fragrance, should I win. I live in the US.

  • I agree with Cafleurebon’s selection for Valentine Day. Although I don’t usually wear sweet, chocolate scents, I find it quite tempting and cute to use a Fragrance with this note on such a special occasion.
Regarding Steven’s choice with Monegal I personally can wear musk scent regardless of the season. And a combo od cocoa, iris and oud in Meltmyheart souds so mouthwatering.

I would like to win Atractone Musk, Rostracto and Meltmyheard.
    I live in Poland.

    Greetings everyone

Every person has a story to tell, some are sad, some happy, some playful , and so on , it’s the same thing with Valentine’s Day. To some it’s a day of celebration , love , chocolate and roses, some think it’s just another day , and others may not even want to celebrate. Me and my girlfriend like to go for a few days to some small village in France countryside , we’ve never been before, and explore.
Chocolate Greedy Montale is such a famous gourmand, clearly for a reason. Unlike Ms Camen and Mr Gavrielatos i wouldn’t define it as liquid chocolate, but more like smelling cocoa powder from up-close.
Everyone knows Tom Ford Noir de Noir , i met my girlfriend while wearing it.
I went to Jovoy yesterday , just to smell Ramon Monegal Atractone Musk and Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart
Atractone Musk unexpectedly, is way more lustful, than romantic. I don’t know if it’s the cumin, the musk, or both ,but I believe it smells like raspberries and BO , I’m sorry. I also smelled the other Ramon Monegal Musk fragrances, and Cherry Musk I liked the most.
MeltMyHeart is fabulous, like getting into upscale Boulangerie, with iris and small amount of Cuban Rum. I’m not skipping such desserts
    Rogue Perfumery Rostracto
I’d like to smell not just the neo-vintage Rostracto, but all Mr Cross fragrances, but unfortunately there is not even one point of sale not just in Paris, but in France , something to consider.
Strangelove NYC MeltMyHeart I’d enjoy the most
Thank you , American living in Paris France

all fantastic fragrances that create alluring scent clouds, but there has always been something about NdN by Tom Ford that has not only stood the test of time but has become a a great scent memory with each passing Valentines for 9 straight years..

Thanks for the fantastic review Steven and Michelyn.

I liked reading through Michelyn’s notes on Strangelove MeltMyHeart, especially the bit about Napoleon. Stevens presentation about the fragrance, was spot on as usual. I’m a big fan of Laudmiel’s work and would love to win a bottle of this.
