The Ten Best Perfumes of 2021 (Nicoleta Tomsa And Emmanuelle Varron) + Bucharest and Paris Draw

Emmanuelle Varron, Sr. Contributor and  Nicoleta Tomsa, Sr. Editor

Now that you have heard from Ermano and me, (our ten best perfumes of 2021 here) and (The Best Fragrances of 2021 here), Ida and Lauryn’s we continue our Ten Best Perfumes of 2021 lists today with Sr. Editor Nicoleta Tomsa and Sr. Contributor Emmanuelle Varron; their choices are very different. Now it’s time to reveal their respective Ten Best Perfumes of 2021 –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

 10 best Perfumes of 2021of 2021

As opposed to other years – where I organized traveling sample boxes, actively swapped and meticulously tested hundreds of fragrances – in 2021 I tested far less, travelled far less, opened up to the world less. For many of us, the chaos and uncertainty of the new reality made us turn inwards, to some sort of feeling of safety and the need for (some) predictable patterns. But still, now more than ever, I turned to the escapist world of fragrance, and found immense and intense joy in testing, wearing, and weaving my tales around scented worlds I was fortunate to discover.-Nicoleta

In alphabetical order, Nicoleta’s Ten Best Perfumes of 2021

Best Perfumes of 2021

Christèle Jacquemin (Cristele Jacquemin )Memory Lane: Christèle Jacquemin’s creations are one of my favorite discoveries this year, reminding me what amazing portals perfumes they can open between people, transcending language and experience, as her perfumes spoke to me, loud and clear, with intelligence, raw emotion, and an authentic unfiltered voice. Memory Lane has alternating contrasting layers between the light-as cloud meringue vanilla and the dark oud and chypriol and is complex, complicated, bittersweet, and ambivalent, like any return home – inspired by Valliguières, a village in Southern France.

Christian Provenzano Parfums Musc Poudré (Christian Provenzano): Powdery musks are my Achille’s heel, and Musc Poudre was a sigh-inducing perfect example of the genre, that went straight to my “need” list. A Proustian madeleine, slowly turned into the finest milled powder by the sands of time – sheer memory dust that keeps the imprint of your silences, down to the last unspoken sighs in its texture. An ambery – musk experience, with orris, rose, violet, softwoods shavings, and the most deliciously mischievous raspberry breath interwoven between its particles. (featured in the JOVOY x CaFleureBon “Make it musk” box)

Der Duft Match (Anne Sophie (Behagel): Architectural, abstract, and both fun and challenging at the same time, just like a Rubik’s cube, Der Duft Match is a woody construction that rotates and reveals new facets on each wear. If you want a smart, ASMR-like olfactive experience, where the notes evolve, flow, and collide among themselves and the background, ever-changing yet playing within the same realm, do give this Match a strike.

Parfums Dusita Anamcara (Pissara Umivijani) means “soul friend” in Gaelic – a person to whom one turns for life advice and spiritual guidance. The story behind the fragrance is indeed one of friendship, old-as-the-ages but ever-new, born in a modern, digitalized context – the Facebook group “Eau my soul” where Pissara laid out her toys and invited everyone to join in and play along. The result is a perfume that manages to perfectly freeze-frame moments of comfort and reassurance, in a cocoon of safety and love that is to be experienced again and again. A floral-fruity-woody experience with notes of fruits (blood orange, peach, apricot), flowers (orange blossom, freesia, jasmine, rose de Mai) mixed in with a delicious black tea accord and grounded by patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, vetiver

Etat Libre d’Orange ghost in the shell (Julie Masse): Surprisingly easy to wear, comfortable, and luminous Ghost in the Shell is a “strong but silent” type of sidekick, wafting close to the skin, hugging the curves of the uncanny valley of “identically natural” fruits and flowers.  Etat Libre d’Orange’s latest launch delivers an airy experience that effortlessly slides from mineral to fruity, and from floral to mossy.  With the ease and fluid movements of an olfactive exoskeleton, build to reduce the effects of gravity, but with enough of an androgynous android wink to keep things interesting and subversive.

Best of 2021 Cafleurebon

Frederic Malle Synthetic Jungle (Anne Flipo): Technicolor deep greens, re-constructed nostalgia, and re-imagined nature all merge into Anne Flipo’s stunning first entry in the Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle collection. With raw natural materials and engineered synthetic notes, Synthetic Jungle is a must-try if you are a chypre lover.

Laborattorio Olfativo Vanagloria (Dominique Ropion): Mister Ropion’s creation is a mystical and aristocratic, yet joyous and natural take on vanilla. A good perfume, he says, must always appear obvious.  Vanagloria has the potential to be a holy grail for any vanilla lover, a fragrance that can be worn either if you want an atmospheric, confidence-boosting epic anthem or a soft and comforting lyrical whisper.

Maison Tahite, Vicious Cacao (Luca Maffei): Vicious Cocoa is the kind of perfume I would gift a decant of to a “gourmand nihilist” perfumista friend and slowly watch them cave into temptation. Intelligently balanced, playing between spicy and floral accords, on the backdrop of the most epicurean chocolate experience, this pulse-raising Vicious Cacao is to be indulged in, time after time, guilt-free.

Masque Milano Lost Alice (Mackenzie Reilly): Lost Alice is a game of proportions and perspective – an intriguing gourmand experience constructed on tension and release: a more challenging bucolic note of broom makes the minimalist posh perfection of orris shine through; and the bitterness of the black tea accord and the prickly pepper sharp angles play in perfect contrast to the sweet roundness of the carrot cake.

Nishane Nanshe (Cecile Zarokian): Nanshe is the Sumerian goddess of fertility, dreams, and prophecy. Her scented re-incarnation can summon a powdery elevator that will lift you to cloud number nine level of zen. Unearthly soft, milky, and familiar yet empowering and reassuring, Nanshe has been a scent hug that I have turned to so often this year, that it will surely be a time capsule of 2021, looking back from the future.

 10 best Perfumes of 2021of 2021

As for many people, 2021 was quite a difficult year for me: confined at my mother’s house in the South of France, I experienced perfume news from afar, cut off from everything (or almost: thank you Instagram!), fed by dozens of sample orders. Back in Paris in mid-August, I spent my days at a frenzied pace visiting perfumeries and attending multiple launches. A year of changing rhythm, I became attracted to more animalic fragrances and those with more subtle and fresh notes. And a brand-new love for galbanum! This allowed me to fully appreciate many marvels launched in 2021. -Emmanuelle

Ten Best perfumes of 2021

Here is my Top Ten 2021 Fragrances in alphabetical order

Corps Volatils Magnified Narcissus (Caroline Dumur): Part of a 24 fragrances collection (twelve 100% natural and twelve 100% synthetic) launched at the start of the year by Nicolas Chabot, I immediately had a crush on Caroline Dumur’s Magnified Narcissus. To such an extent that this 100% natural fragrance was one of the very few I was able to wear during lockdown, at a time when, like many of us, my pace of life was turned upside down. Magnified Narcissus made me feel like I didn’t have to deprive myself of all the little pleasures of everyday life (wearing beautiful jewellery, a pretty lipstick …), and reassured me. But it is in no way a “medicinal” perfume: its aromatic and spicy start (mandarin and pink pepper) is actually a red herring because as soon as the narcissus sets in, the fragrance takes a completely different direction, this time enchanting and sensual. A bit narcotic, even! Caroline Dumur added notes of vanilla and tonka bean bringing roundness and softness. The whole thing gives a perfume of perfect harmony on the skin, reassuring and addictive.

Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle Synthetic Jungle (Anne Flipo):  was one of the most anticipated perfumes of the year, and the challenge was huge for Anne Flipo, who signed her first collaboration with Les Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle! But the bet is won with style, as this fragrance, at first divisive, is of a complexity that has become rare in the perfume industry. Synthetic Jungle is an astonishing perfume, playing between a vintage spirit and a modern composition where synthetic notes are FINALLY celebrated. The reference to Estée Lauder Private Collection is assumed, but in its chypre and flowery aspect (jasmine, hyacinth and ylang-ylang), which develops after a few minutes. The opening is fresh and dashing, thanks to basil, lily of the valley and blackcurrant, with the addition of styrallyl acetate (similar to rhubarb) which plays an in-between role. A very beautiful tribute to a timeless nature, where the multiple tones of the raw materials, whether natural or synthetic, go together wonderfully.

Eris Parfums Green Spell (Antoine Lie ): I discovered Green Spell a few months before Eris Parfums arrived (finally) in Paris last July, thanks to a box to which I am a subscriber. Usually not at all drawn to green scents, I fell in love immediately with this fragrance created by Antoine Lie. A kaleidoscope of greens, in perpetual motion and full of contrasts. Mandarin, blackcurrant bud, galbanum, violet leaf, narcissus, tomato leaf, fig leaf, vetiver: the textures intermingle in a perfectly mastered choreography, but also a lot of fantasy. Green Spell is a joyful and shimmering fragrance, full of multiple tones. A feat that has radically changed my outlook (and my nose!) on this category of perfumes!

Les Bains Guerbois 1992 Purple Night (Dominique Ropion): Tuberose lover, Prince Rogers Nelson fan and the year I turned 20: before I even smelled it, I liked everything in 1992 Purple Night! Inspired by a true story (a surprise aftershow given by Prince at Les Bains Douches nightclub after one of his Paris concerts in July 1992), this fragrance created by Dominique Ropion is sensual, chic, wild and suave at the same time. Here, the tuberose is carnal, omnipresent and vibrant: it’s impossible to escape it! After a few minutes, it drapes itself in a gourmet tobacco note reminiscent of the famous Amsterdamer. Dominique Ropion also added a note of leather and patchouli, giving even more depth to this festive fragrance with vintage accents, in the spirit of those we wore at that time, powerful and ultra-sensual. Its sillage is impressive, especially as over the hours the tobacco facet becomes prominent, still with its sweet and honeyed notes. That’s why I especially like wearing it at night, for its sassy and exhilarated tuberose; the next morning, 1992 Purple Night is still on my skin, but like a second scent that I love to wear when I wake up. A very daring fragrance full of contrasts, like we won’t find much in 2021.

Matière Première Oud Seven (Aurélien Guichard): Still an Harrod’s exclusive, it is thanks to CaFleureBon that I was able to try (and review) Oud Seven, Aurélien Guichard’s most recent composition for his brand. An extremely sophisticated fragrance, in which oud is freed from the animal facets that have often caricatured, even distorted it in recent years. Here, Oud Assam Bangladeh is associated with seven raw materials which give the perfume a very subtle complexity: vetiver and violet leaves (for the male-female contrast), tobacco (for a smooth honeyed facet), patchouli and cypriol (to create a woody tryptic base), labdanum and amber (for sensuality). All of them contribute to making Oud Seven a fragrance of great density, both intimate and intense, of which you quickly become addicted to. Without doubt the most urban oud I have ever worn, and now an essential in my Parisian olfactory wardrobe.

 10 best Perfumes of 2021of 2021

Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus (Bertrand Duchaufour): After the sublime Nuit de Bakélite in 2017, Naomi Goodsir aficionados were impatiently awaiting her new fragrance. It took several years of work with co creative director Renaud Coutaudier for Corpus Equus to be launched, composed by a very inspired Bertrand Duchaufour. Corpus Equus is an intense and wild fragrance and masterful, evoking both Pierre Soulages famous Outrenoirs and the white Arabian horse that Naomi Goodsir rode during equestrian competitions. A dark scent, sensual and mysterious like frankincense, benzoin and myrrh. Racy like leather,  but here covered with rose petals. Generous, with notes of iris, amber and patchouli. Composed of noble and powerful raw materials it is a multi-faceted perfume in the purest Naomi Goodsir style.

Parfum d’Empire Mal-Aimé (Marc-Antoine Corticchiato): His creations have long been favorites, as the founder of Parfum d’Empire he reinvents himself in each fragrance. For Mal-Aimé (Unloved), which is part of the L’Héritage Corse collection, tribute is paid to weeds (often… unloved) and especially to inula, omnipresent on the Isle of Beauty and usually used in aromatherapy. As the star of the fragrance, inula is the first raw material you catch on skin, quickly followed by galbazine as an evocation of thistle and brambles, and nettle absolute for a surprising earthy side. Inula then develops its multiple facets, from honey to musk and then… rose! One of the most precious flower surrounded by weeds. It is a true work of art from the heart of Marc-Antoine Corticchiato and evidence that ALL raw materials are beautiful.

Parfumeurs du Monde Les Larmes d’Eden (Thierry Bernard): I had almost completed my top 10 when Les Larmes d’Aden was launched in early December. I could only make room for it, as it heartened me so much in its composition and the emotions it aroused in me. This fragrance is a tribute to Yemen and its historic port of Aden, the starting point of the spice route that has crossed Europe, Africa and Asia since Antiquity. Incense is at the heart of this mystical fragrance, as Thierry Bernard wanted to reproduce as closely as possible the famous Temple of Jerusalem Ketoret incense. The masterstroke is the perfect balance of this round and sensual opening with a crackling galbanum, giving a contrast of striking beauty on the skin. And this masterpiece is a magical olfactory bridge between Aden and the rest of the world.

Sous le Manteau Odisiaque n°6 (Nathalie Feisthauer):We are often attracted by a perfume that evokes memories, emotions, or even scents of the past. But you can also be unsettled, then conquered by a fragrance that is unrelated to anything familiar, like jumping into the void with a (hidden parachute). This is exactly the sensation I felt when I first tried the magnificent Odisiaque n ° 6 created by Nathalie Feisthauer: an androgynous aphrodisiac potion, impetuous and shy at the same time. There is a graceful bergamot-geranium opening that coils in mystery with elemi, mate and vetiver. Then the notes of tobacco, hay and tonka bean bring a shiny and warm light full of audacity and originality. A surprising scent, which arouses curiosity and makes me succumb every time I wear it.

Voyages Imaginaires La Couleur de la Nuit ( Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen): Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen’s new brand is dedicated to 100% natural fragrances. My absolute favourite is the highly sensual La Couleur de la Nuit, that evokes Hong-Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai movies and their enigmatic nocturnal light: a surprising ambery lavender, sweet and soft, that could be shared as a common fragrance by secret lovers hiding from the crowd. Hints of vanilla fir balsam and patchouli add some sensuous warmth that smooths over the minutes and stays a long time on my skin. A fragrance of incredible charm and infinite beauty that invites travel and love!

I had the opportunity to test several of the fragrances in both Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s lists. Quite a few of them are very soothing, cocooning scents, which makes so much sense considering what we all had to face in 2021.
It’s also very encouraging and exciting to see so many small, indie brands featured in these two top lists (as well as in the previous lists from the other Çafleurebon team members)! Bravo for supporting them!
I’m based in Romania and should I win, I’d love the bottle of Der Duft’s Match. Thank you!

  • fleurdetilleul says:

I love reading your year-end and top 10 lists! They’re a bundle of the best perfumes and I always see so many goodies that I have yet to smell! Reading the reviews here, the three that sound absolutely amazing are Lost Alice, Memory Lane and Les Larmes d’Aden. For this draw I choose Masque Milano’s Lost Alice. Thank you! I live in the EU.

  • Synthetic Jungle and Lost Alice have been making appearances in many lists. Good timing to see Maison Tahite Vicious Cacao on the list as Carnal Cacao from the same brand is on the way to me. The two themes I note in the above list is that green and animalic fragrances were high on the minds of niche brands this year. My choice is Lost Alice. I am in US.

  • I think that they are amazing choicces, I really love them. I live in Poland, EU. I would like to win Ghost in A Shell.

  • Without reading anything else, I now know I absolutely must find and try Corpus Equus and Synthetic Jungle since they are prominent in these lists! As important to me is that these top 10s include a fair number of less known perfumes and houses.

Nicoleta, I totally agree on the Christèle Jacquemin fragrances; I don’t know if I could choose a favorite. And thank you, Emmanuelle, for your comments on Sous le Manteau Odisiaque n°6. It sounds heavenly and I love Elemi.

I’m in the USA and would choose Lost Alice if I were to win. Thank you!

  • I’am a huge fan of Etat Libre D’Orange and Ghost in the Shell , the movie, the mix must be exciting ,i would pick from this selection Ghost in the Shell and Masque Milano Lost Alice! From Romania with love!

  • I’am a huge fan of Etat Libre D’Orange and Ghost in the Shell , the movie, the mix must be exciting ,i would pick from this selection Ghost in the Shell and Masque Milano Lost Alice! From Romania with love!

  • I enjoyed reading both top 10s. I was especially interested in the two takes on Synthetic Jungle as it’s one I’m quite interested in. Both women do an excellent job of weaving details about the notes found in each fragrance and the feelings they evoke for them. There were several that piqued my interest and of those the one that’s available that I think I’d most enjoy is Lost Alice. I’m in North Carolina USA.

  • It is interesting to see how so many perfumes occur multiple times in different lists, which means they must be really good. Corpus Equus, Der Duft, Synthetic Jungle, and so on. Oud Seven seems intriguing from the review, as I like oud perfumes. If I were lucky enough to win this draw, I’d like to get The Ghost in the Shell, though any of the ones listed would be great. From USA.

  • Very interesting perfumes!! Unfortunately I am familiar with only Synthetic Jungle – which is nice fork but I am not fan of green perfumes!
I liked descriptions of many perfumes, for example Maison Tahite,Vicious Cacao – love gourmand perfumes.
Lost Alice- have read so many wonderful reviews.
    Der Duft Match sounds interesting.

I love how there is some overlap among these lists, but always new and exciting finds/individuals in each. Glad to see someone else liked Odiasiaque as much as I did. In fact, it was a late year blind buy for me! I think I initially dismissed Lost Alice, but hearing there’s a broom note, I have to try it now! Love seeing Synthetic Jungle on many of these lists as I’ll be getting a sample of that one soon! Thanks, as always, for the generous draw. If I won, I’d love Lost Alice or the Der Duft. I’m in the US (Colorado).

  • whimsical diva says:

Fantastic list. I’ve tried a few on the list (Synthetic Jungle, Green Spell, Lost Alice, Ghost in a Shell, Corpus Equus) and an looking forward to trying some others. Some of the brands aren’t carried by retailers in the US (Voyages Imaginaires , Les Bains Guerbois) so will have to try them out when I’m in Europe again. I absolutely adored the Lost Alice and Ghost in a Shell, so would love to enter the draw for either. I live in California, USA.

  • I agree with Nicoleta that 2021 was the year that I traveled, tested, and tried way less. And like Emmanuelle, I am grateful that social media still allowed me to stay in touch with people, keep up with news, and feel connected to a community so deeply rooted in experiential moments. Happy to see Synthetic Jungle on so many lists. Green fragrances always symbolize emergence and rebirth, so here’s hoping for more of that and less lockdown in 2022!

  • Oh! I forgot to add to my comment that it would be wonderful to win The Ghost in The Shell! I’m in the US. Sorry for the multiple comments!

  • Very nice selection from both, I prefer Emmanuelle selection, 5 of her top ten appeal me a lot. I would love to win the bottle of Der Duft. Thanks for the opportunity and regards from Mexico.
    Feliz Año Nuevo !!

  • Wow! I think Frederick Maille’s Synthetic Jungle has made it onto almost everyone’s list so far. I went ahead and ordered a sample. Like Nicoleta, my year was one of turning inward.. until I was forced outward again. I would really love to win Etat Libre d’orange Ghost in the Shell. I am in the US

  • I relate a great deal to Nicoleta. This is the year perfume helped me to escape the uncertainty and chaos of life. I used to obsess about news and information but I got to the point where I couldn’t do it anymore. Perfume samples and bottles became my comforting refuge. I’m thankful for CaFleureBon and other perfume resources that helped to fuel my newfound passion. Out of Nicoletta’s choices, Vicious Cacao is my favorite. I remember how that fragrance put a big smile on my face. I purchased Cacao2 from Maison Tahite but still consider going back to get Vicious Cacao. I have to admit that I have not tried a single fragrance from Emmanuelle‘s list. A few selections piqued my interest and I put them in my to-try list, mainly Les Larmes d’Aden and Odisiaque n ° 6. I would love to win a the bottle of Lost Alice if selected. I live in Indiana.

  • Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance yet to try any of the fragrances which they’ve mentioned in this article. From Nicoleta’s choices, these have been towards the top of my list of fragrances to sample: Laborattorio Olfativo “Vanagloria” (because I can very much enjoy incense/vanilla fragrances), Christèle Jacquemin “Memory Lane”, and Masque Milano “Lost Alice”. From Emmanuelle’s choices, these have been towards the top of my list of fragrances to sample: Parfum d’Empire “Mal-Aimé”, Matière Première “Oud Seven”, and Eris Parfums “Green Spell”. However, I’d love to try all of their selections, and it was interesting to see what think about this year in regards to fragrance releases. I hope that I win the giveaway draw. If I win, then I’d choose (in this order): Christèle Jacquemin “Memory Lane”, and then Masque Milano “Lost Alice”. I live in MD., U.S.A. Thank you.

  • There’s that Corpus Equus again……must test that on skin. Wonderful choices, my sample list for Luckyscent is growing. Emmanuelle says what most people say about Green Spell (and what I said) that she is not usually drawn to green scents. This was love at first sniff for me and I had kinda forgotten about it as I purchased it last January and it’s been put away for the winter. I didn’t get rose in Mal-Aime, but I’ll try that again even though I don’t think it is for me, I keep seeing it on many people’s lists. I would love to win Lost Alice. Thanks for the chance. Happy Fragrant New Year!! USA.

  • Nicoleta and Emmanuelle! ❤️ Thank you for wonderful top ten lists! So many of these fragrances are on my “must try” lists! I’m so delighted there is more to explore! I am so very thankful for your beautiful and brilliant reporting! If I were a lucky winner, I would be delighted to experience Lost Alice by Masque Milano. ❤️ Thank you so much! USA

  • I heard great reviews about Synthetic Jungle. I do enjoy many fragrances that are unisex, so your list is very helpful. If lucky, I’d choose Ghost in a Shell, Match, Memory Lane or Lost Alice. Thanks for the opportunity. Mich USA

  • Love The Ten Best Perfumes. I was familiar with most. Did sample a few. This year really was about Sampling in our homes. The best sample I remember was Ghost in a Shell my favorite. Thank you for the chance. USA

  • More amazing choices from Nicoleta and Emmanuelle! There seem to be even more that I have not even heard of let alone tried which means I will be very busy getting samples after the new year! I just found Christelle’s brand and got a bottle of Meandering Soul so, I’m sure I would also like the newest, Memory Lane. Masque Milano Lost Alice is also a really lovely scent. I’m happy someone chose Nanshe by Nishane, I think this served more credit than it received for being a beautiful comfort scent. I would love a bottle of Memory Lane. US

  • As Nicolette said, testing and wearing fragrance had been an immense comfort and escape for me during this often difficult year. I feel so fortunate to have found CFB to guide me through this newfound appreciation of smelly art. I’m really enjoying reading about everyones favorites from the year, I would love to try all of these but Match by Der Duft sounds the most appealing atm as I prefer drier scents. USA

  • There are so many on this list I’ve been wanting to sample. The only one I’ve managed to smell is FM Synthetic Jumgle, an homage to a verdant 70’s chypre. Synthetic Jungle seems to be on several lists along with Lost Alive and Corpus Equus. If I were fortunate enough to win, I would choose either Masque Milano Lost Alice or ELdO Ghost in a Shell. I’m in MD, USA.

  • What a year it has been. I’ve added quite a few bottles to my collection and purged probably just as many. For once I am at a very happy place with my collection with perhaps just wanting one or two to add to it!
I think I vibe with Nicoleta’s fragrances the most. I have not had a huge change to sample many from the list, although Lost Alice (yay ambrette) and Ghost in the Shell have been on my list (yay milk)!
I would love to win ELDO Ghost in the Shell.
    Thank you from Canada <3

  • I really enjoyed reading Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s Ten Best Perfumes of 2021. Like Nicoleta, I also turned inwards over the past year; however, I still enjoyed the comfort of fragrances. Nicoleta’s top ten perfumes are quite varied and I have tried some of them. I love Vicious Cacao and Lost Alice; both are very comforting gourmand fragrances. I have been very intrigued by Memory Lane ever since I discovered Christele Jacquemin’s fragrances. Anamcara is one of the few Dusita fragrances I have not tried, but it sounds beautiful. I also love how the inspiration behind the fragrance is friendship. After reading Nicoleta’s comments about Vanagloria, I really need to try this fragrance as I can’t pass up trying a “mystical” vanilla.

Like Emmanuelle, I also discovered notes I love over the past year. I never really enjoyed green fragrances, but I discovered I do enjoy certain green notes (such as those in January Scent Project Eiderantler). Unfortunately, I have not tried any of Emmanuelle’s top ten fragrances for 2021. Magnified Narcissus sounds right up my alley, as I love narcissus and vanilla. 1992 Purple Night sounds like a heady tuberose, which I generally enjoy. With my new appreciation for green notes, I am drawn towards Mal-Aime- especially because Emannuelle describes it as a work of art. Finally, Emmanuelle’s last pick of La Couleur de la Nuit really appeals to me as it contains some of my favorite notes (fir, vanilla, lavender).

Overall, I loved reading about Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s ten best perfumes of 2021. Thank you for the article and the giveaway! I would love to win Masque Milano Lost Alice. I love this fragrance and have wanted to add a bottle to my wardrobe since I tried it. I am located in the USA.

  • Although I have not tried any of Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s choices, I enjoyed reading about and imagining the experience that each one would bring. It seems like there are quite a few commonalities amongst each contributor’s lists, lending itself to think that there are truly a few that are a cut above the rest, even if not specifically presented in a particular ranking. For me, Masque Milano’s Lost Alice sounds by and away the best out of this lot. Black tea and pepper are already two of my absolute favorite notes in all of perfumery and with the added carrot cake accord this sounds like a mouth-watering gourmand that clearly stole many hearts this past year. Thank so much for the opportunity to experience this beauty and cheers from Illinois!

  • Just like Cavatina and my favorite Parfums Dusita Erawan , Anamcara also has the same vibe to me of joyful Spring fragrance , being more fruity and woody than the other two.
All I know about The Ghost in Shell is the recent movie with Scarlett Johansson in the leading role .
“slides from mineral to fruity, and from floral to mossy”
Ok you got my attention. I’m interested in all aspects of The Ghost in the Shell. As usual for ELDO, different element’s of surprise are present , my Experimentum Crucis exceeded my expectations , and now i have it.
Maison Tahité Vicious Cacao I think is smooth, and up to date chocolate fragrance.
The new powdery rosy Nishane called Nanshe is in my wish list.
I like how Oud Seven is part wild man, and at one point turns into gentleman. I’m more comfortable with its ambery , sophisticated tobacco and oud part .
Parfumeurs du Monde Les Larmes d’Aden I think will suit me with roundness, and different and special incense , and some greenness , contrast I’d like to have on my skin.
I do own Ambre Russe , Mal-Aimé is Spring time aromatic .
Masque Milano Russian Tea i had the pleasure of smelling before. The steaming black tea is so strong in a good way, in Lost Alice the tea is more milky , the fragrance is sweeter, but still keeping its complexity.
In my possession is Tango , and I’d like to also have Lost Alice.
Thank you Emmanuelle Varron, and Nicoleta Tomsa

  • Oh I’m delighted to see Green Spell on Emanuelle’s list – it was my favorite Insta-buy of the year and also instantly in my top ten of all time. It has a scent so green I can instantly call it to mind, o bottle (or tomato leaf) needed. I’d love to win Ghost in the Shell, been dying to try. I live in Washington state, USA

  • Very much enjoyed these choices. Learned of perfumes i hadnt heard of and learned more about some I had. Also I love learning of new houses, all of which I found here. It certainly seems there are some reoccurring themes from 2021 of perfumes to reconnect with nature, particularly green scents and comforting scents, ie gourmands. I believe this was actually even mentioned in one of the earlier entries of this series. Of the ones not for draw id very much like to try Vanagloria, Anamcara, Oud Seven, and La Couleur de la Nuit among others. If I was to win I would choose;
    1. Lost Alice
    2. The Ghost In The Shell
    3. Memory Lane
Thanks so much as always for the generous draw, from CT USA.

  • Fascinating as ways to read the selections and how there are crossovers from everyone else’s top 10’s. I am especially interested in Christèle Jacquemin as I have a little bottle of Meandering Soul and definitely want to try more from her so I would like to try and win Memory Lane especially intriguing meringue note! I am in U.K.

  • Most of the perfumes on this list are unfamiliar to me so I have to solely rely on the depictions from its authors. From what I’ve read I think I would love to win Lost Alice from Masque Milano.
Nonetheless, I have tried Corpus Equus and it is truly wonderful.
Many thanks for this draw. I live in France.

  • Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s reviews again delight with a non-standard choice of perfumes, which you will rarely hear about, I really like the sensual works of Christèle Jacquemin, as well as her photographs, which are directly related to her perfumes.

And although I have not tried the latest works of Der Duft, I like what Anselm produces, especially, I was impressed by his first works – Pride and Grasse.

Not surprisingly, Masque Milano Lost Alice is the favorite of many, it is a very unusual gourmand perfume that will leave few people indifferent!

And Les Bains Guerbois is a brand that captured me with the design of its bottles, I really like faceted bottles, they look beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. I am sure that the fragrances inside are worthy as well!

Thank you for such a thoughtful digest!
I would be happy to win Lost Alice or Der Duft`s Match!
    UK

  • Great choices both by Nicoleta and Emmanuel. I am intrigued by oud seven and synthetic jungle the most but they all sound great. If I am lucky to win I would love to win Masque milano lost Alice. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • I always love reading your favourite lists great choices that I couldn’t choose my favourites even if I tried. An amazing list composed by Emmanuel and Nicoleta. If I am successful I would love to win the Der Duft match. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • I see Lost Alice has been featured a lot in these list of our editors. That’s my choice as well if I were to win.
Thank you and good luck to everyone!

  • Nicoleta’s list provided so many “comfort scents”, which are absolutely needed and best appreciated during this kind of times and in the middle of winter, to sample and experience. These powdery-lactonic-musky-breezy concoctions are enveloping like a hug from a good friend.
Emmanuelle came up with a more eclectic list, with perfumes belonging to the chypre category, as well as deeper, oriental perfumes and a tuberose which goes right to my “find and sample” list (Purple Night, I’m looking at you!)
It was also interesting to see how Synthetic Jungle made it to both selections and I can definitely see why – it’s not the kind of perfume I gravitate towards most, but I found myself reaching out for my decant quite often. Such a bold, refreshing yet classic frag all at once.
I would love to enter the giveaway and my choice would be either Memory Lane or Match.
    I am in the EU.

  • Another list to appreciate. I am so thankful this list reminded me about the Les Bains Guerbois Purple Night scent, as I am a HUGE prince fan and have been meaning to check that one out. I have finally fallen in love with tuberose this year after many attempts to find something to love about that note (thank you to Nuit de Bakelite, which finally helped it click), and the Prince-inspired interpretation seems right up my alley.

This list is also making me think that I should give my sample of Synthetic Jungle another chance. I must say I was extremely disappointed upon first wear, on my skin all I got was vegetal sharpness (think celery) and then a very wan lily of the valley, which disappeared in under an hour. I love green scents and I love chypres, so I thought this one would be right up my alley, but alas! Perhaps it just doesn’t work for me.

Thanks for another lovely review of this year’s scents. If I am lucky enough to win one of these draws, I’d love to have Memory Lane, but I would also like Lost Alice or Ghost in the Shell. USA here.

  • I enjoy reading the personal opinions of these fragrances even when I haven’t smelled them. If chosen I pick The Ghost in the Shell. US

  • When I read about Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelles’s choice, I found it marvelous that some fragrances, despite differences in taste, can reunite people even if they are on the other side of earth. I am intrigued about what gives them this additional sensitivity. I thought it was craftsmanship or originality. But it might be something else, something that can only be found in an artistic creation. By the way I am curiouser and curiouser about Lost Alice. From Eu.

  • Oh, love their choices, I own some of the fragrances mentioned and love them all! Lost Alice sounds like something I’d like to try! I’m from Croatia. ❤️

  • And another great, great, TOP 10 selections! Even if I don’t agree, I must say, your arguments and your description make me want to try out the fragrances I didn’t like a second time! Loved reading it whole way through and I especially loved how you put focus on Ghost in the shell by ELDO and Oud Seven, I feel like both of those fragrances are incredibly underrated!

I would like to win Der Duft Match, I love this brand and it would be a treat to win this one!

    I live in Croatia, EU.

  • So far I think Synthetic jungle is featured on every best 10 list, and this makes me want to smell it soo bad. Other than that the lists are again very interesting and inspirational, so many perfumes on ‘too smell’ list.
I’m in EU and I ‘ dnlike to win Christell Jacquemin Memory Lane.

  • Thank you for highlighting many entries from smaller, less known houses. Sometimes it’s a bit exhausting, the amount of releases Hopefully I will be able to sample of these in the coming year. Lost Alice is one of those that I would like get my hands on! I live in Finland.

  • Well done Nicoleta and Emmanuelle. You exposed me to fragrances I was not aware of like Match by Der Duft , Oud Seven by Matiere Premiere and Natural fragrances like Voyages imaginaires la couleur de la nuit. I will make an effort next year to try and experience some of the fragrances you have highlighted.
I would love Memory Lane by Christele Jacquemin.
    – Maryland, US.

  • 3rd thumbs up to Nicoleta Tomsa and Emmanuelle Varron
Anamcara like most Dusita fragrances is calming and relaxing fragrance , this time giving us some extra floral-fruity-woody experience
Ghost in the Shell is steampunk , futuristic manga/anime kind of fragrance I’ve sampled. It starts with zesty, then turns metallic, and woody, spicy , and really smoky in the base.
Vicious Cacao made by Maison Tahité is cozy late year kind of fragrance
I remember the first Nanshe, and EGE/AIГAIO review Nicoleta did earlier in the year. Nanshe was not what I was hoping for, I find EGE/AIГAIO much better, and my husband even bought a bottle for himself.
Matiere Premiere I’m not familiar with, but I like complex fragrances, with a lot of depth.
Never been to the Yemen, but I’d like to explore the all natural incense accord in Les Larmes d’Aden .
Just a few days ago Olya masterfully transported us to Russian country side with RussianTea, and black tea, birch , trees , woodiness, and a touch of incense.
Now Nicoleta is giving us original , and inviting gourmand delight with Lost Alice , the fragrance i would be happy to win.
    Thanks for the draw
    USA

  • So it would appear that Lost Alice is a 2021 superstar along with Synthetic Jungle. I will definitely need to get my hands on a sample of each of these. Corpus Equus is definitely one of the best animalic leathers I have sampled this year, and is on my list for a full bottle. From the picks here, I would like to sample/win Der Duft Match, which sounds great based on the notes. Woods and black pepper can never fail with my nose! Thank you for the reviews and draws! I’m in the US.

  • Nicoleta and Emmanuelle’s choices are excellent and give me lots of ideas of fragrances I need to try. As for my favorite among the selection that I’ve tried, I am a member of Eau My Soul and was delighted to be gifted a sample of Anamcara for testing and submitting my name. While my name was not chosen, the collective scent of Anamcara is lovely (I just finished my sample of it a couple months ago) and the name fits it perfectly.
If I can choose only one, I would like to win Memory Lane. If I can enter for multiple, I would like in this order:
    1.Memory Lane
    2.Lost Alice
    3.The Ghost in the Shell
    4.Der Duft
Thanks so much for the very generous draw!
    Indiana, USA

  • Thanks Nicoletta and Emmanuelle!

Such great choices. I love Nicoleta’s modern masterpieces Ghost in the Shell and Synthetic Jungle, but Emmanuelle’s choices of the timeless Les Bains and Oud Seven are just as great.
These are all just fantastic fragrances that I can’t wait to get my nose on and appreciate them being short-listed at the end of the year so I will have an easier time ordering my samples!

I would love to strike a match with Der Duft’s Match!
    Greetings from the UK!

  • Unfortunately haven’t tried any of the fragrances so far – but my list with sample-wishes grew bigger thanks to this article! Most interested in Synthetic Jungle I guess, it was fascinating to read your twos different approach towards this scent.

Would like to win Der Duft – Match

    Living in Germany, EU

  • First of all I need to agree with Nicoleta that in this challenging times escaping to the world of fragrance is a great joy. There are some great choices by both ladies. I see that Lost Alice, that caught my attention, has made it to many Top 10 lists. Perfumes Dustia Anamcara sound like a something I could love and I adore the fragrance with a meaning and a back story and the one of Anamcara is great. The same goes for La Couleur de la Nuit (what a beautiful name). The movie reference make the smell even more interesting. I enjoy reading Top 10 lists cause there is so many fragrances I discovered because of them. You don’t make it easy with the draw too 🙂 All fragrances sound amazing and choosing is close to impossible but nevertheless I’d like to win MATCH by Der Duft. I live in EU, Poland.

  • I love reading such yearly top10 lists with many thoughtful details. I make notes to myself, in order to remember when I was able to sample these wonderful creations. From the article above I am most interested to sample The Ghost in a Shell and Les Larmes d’Eden Parfumeurs du Monde. They were mentionned before in recent lists, but here I got new details about them.
I live in the EU and would like to take part in the draw for:
    – The Ghost in a Shell ELDO,
    – Lost Alice Maque Milano.
    Thank you!

  • Too bad for all of us who were unable to travel during the pandemic but all be it still a very nice list of fragrances. Of all things during this pandemic which for many have stripped our sense of smell, glad to see houses still producing great fragrances.

Frederic Malle Synthetic Jungle must try for me one day!
    Parfum d’Empire Mal-Aimé of course!

Easily my two favorites from each list. Thanks for the draw from the USA. Happy New Year!

  • Two very interesting lists of favourite 2021 fragrances. I found Nicoleta’s description of Lost Alice very intriguing, because the only fragrance featuring a note of broom which I’ve tried so far is 4160 Tuesdays’ Mother Nature’s Naughty Daughters, and I love the herbal refinement which the broom note lends to the whole composition. I would love to try Lost Alice by Masque Milano. I live in the UK.

  • Synthetic Jungle has been featured quite a lot. It sounds wonderful and very unique. I enjoyed learning about the other releases Lost Alice caught my eye for the tea note which I’m very into lately. I’ve had great succes with Masque Milano fragrances like Ray-Flection and Madeleine. So I would like to win Lost Alice. I live in Denmark, EU.

  • Sandro Mateush says:

Interesting choices. It was interesting to see such a multifaceted TOP.
I’d like to win “Ghost in a Shell” from Etat Libre D’Orange
    I’m in EU, Ukraine, Kyiv
    Thank you!

  • It is still inspiring to see so much creativity among perfumers in spite of (because of?) difficult times. Cheers to all the perfumers who continue to make our quotidian experience better through their art. I would love to try Lost Alice for an escape in the new year. Xo
    I am in Calif.

  • Rachel Part 2: I didn’t have much time yesterday, so I wanted to add a couple thoughts. I adore Nicoleta and Emmanuelle’s lists! ❤️ Der Duft’s woody aromatic ACT has a bright pine and tobacco combination that feels seasonal and cool/menthol/winter outdoors to me. I look forward to trying Match with its intellectual side! I adore Matiere Premiere and can’t wait until Oud Seven is widely available! This year, thanks to CaFleureBon, we discovered the sensual Encens Suave and the gorgeous Falcon Leather! I am probably most looking forward to my samples of Mal-Aime and Les Larmes d’Eden. ❤️ Is it strange that I don’t experience the green in Synthetic green as “overwhelming”? So many people experience the green (galbanum, etc,) as bitter, etc., but I actually find that fragrance rather resinous/sweet and the green bright, but not bitter. Some vintage perfumes and essential oils are actually bitter, imho. It’s fascinating to account for one’s own palette! Again, thank you for such excellent thoughts and recommendations! ❤️

  • There are definitely some new to me introductions on the list which I appreciate. I need to retry the Vicious Cacao. Synthetic Jungle has made so many lists. Rarely do I miss a Mall release and am excited to still see an edgy release from him! Green Spell is also on my sample list. Out of the offering Lost Alice would be my first pick but Memory Lane sounds interesting too. The Ghost in the Shell kind of scres me, which I guess is its intent. I am sure I will get my nose on it eventually though. Residing in the US

  • Thanks Nicoleta and Emmanuelle for the inspiring lists. I always try to find something that speaks to myself in such list as I understand I won’t be able to sample everything… This time its Oud Seven by MP that I will try to get my nose on although it means I’ll have to go to London to do that 😀 The experience described is what I’m looking for right now!
If I’m to be lucky to win a draw, my choice would be A Ghost in a Shell by ELDO
    Lina, Lithuania, EU

  • Danu Seith-Fyr says:

Always so very interesting to read all the contributors writing of their own personal choices. Here again no exception, wonderfu; reading and inspiring choices. Thank you again for all the hard work. My choices would be
    Memory Lane or Lost Alice
Wishing you all a Happy New Year
    living in Sw France

  • I wish I’ve tried any of these choices, these sound amazing. I love the great descriptions from Nicoleta and Emmanuelle and could definitely blind buy some of them!
If I could choose one, I’d choose Memory Lane.
Wishing you all the best in New year from Europe.

  • Stuck in the house like many, sampling perfumes has allowed me to go outside, ‘smell the air’, experience new ideas, things and places…what a hobby! It has been a good year for new releases and , thanks to samples, I have been fortunate to experience several of these including Synthetic Jungle, which changed my mind about synthetic ingredients…although included in many if not nearly all mainstream perfumes these days, to find a perfume so dependent , and proudly so! upon synthetic ingredients was eye-opening to say the least. I was happy to see it featured in both Nicoleta and Emmanuelle’s lists. If I were to win one of the generously provided bottles it would have to be The Ghost In The Shell from EldO; mineral, fruity, floral and mossy…what’s not to like! It sounds like a winner! I am in the US.

  • I like Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s lists, I will try Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus and Parfums Dusita Anamcara. Happy New Year and Thank you! EU

  • From Nicoleta’s top 10 I have tried many and completely agree with her opinions. I especially love The Ghost in the shell as it has a unique twist like no other perfume I own.
As for Emmanuelle’s top 10, I must admit I haven’t tried any, but I’m intrigued by Les Bains Guerbois 1992 Purple Night and Corps Volatils Magnified Narcissus.
I’d love to win Memory Lane or Lost Alice – both sound amazing!
Wishing everyone a Happy New year from Europe!

  • I enjoyed reading both top 10 lists, but I was more drawn to Nicoleta’s list, since consists of some olfactive gems that have been on my radar. I appreciated succinct mini-reviews of the most liked fragrance in 2021. Vanagloria has picked my interest and I am reconsidering to give Sintetic Jungle a try after all.
Since CaFleureBon introduced me to Etat Libre d’Orange’s fragrances, which I absolutely adore, I would be more than happy to win their new fragrance Ghost in a Shell.
    Greetings from Slovenia (EU).

  • Fragrance Capital says:

Thank you Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s for your ten Best perfumes of 2021. All your choices deserve to be smelled and owned. I will just talk about Match Der Duft because I wrote about it before here in CaFleureBon but I did not win 🙂 To me, Match gives me a sense of competition. Maybe I’ll imagine it as a match between its opposite component Notes. The Match starts with a fresh and fizzy opening from the Grapefruit and Ginger notes. The leathery (Suede) note together with a Cumin are maybe the body heat and sweat from the game. The heart of the scent then comes from musky, and earthy from Iris together with a green, aromatic, and Vetiver note that leads to the somewhat animalistic ambery woody earthy and salty Ambroxan notes in the base. As a whole, Behaghel did a nice scent that gives you a sense of excitement in a soft way. I’d love to have it one day. Happy New Year 🙂 Bosnia

  • All of the best of’s that I have read are amazing. The comment Michelyn made in first best of was so true a good fragrance is universal. I have noticed the similarites in some but also some unique choices both in Nicoleta and Emmanuelle’s choices. I would love Memory Lane should I win. I am in the US.

  • I haven’t tried any of these new releases yet but this has piqued my curiosity about a few. I’m a big fan of powdery scents as well, so Christian Provenzano Parfums Musc Poudré is very appealing to me, with the Proustian madeleine description. The fruits in Parfums Dusita Anamcara also sound delicious. I’d like to be entered to win Memory Lane, as it sounds most like my style with its meringue note against its darker ones. I am from New England.

  • Thank you, Nicoleta and Emmanuelle for your wonderful choices for 2021. You opened my eye to many intriguing fragrances. I liked the idea and the name of “Memory Lane”. It excites my nostalgia and Deja vu to my past timeline. I think it smells different than any other perfume because of its notes. To imagine its scent, I googled the page of Cristele Jacquemin and I read about the idea behind it. So, I liked it more and I liked the idea of enriching it with Oud. This perfume should be the scent of the new memories not only the past ones. All the best from the USA.

  • If two Çafleurebon editor & contributor mention the same fragrance, namely Synthetic Jungle, now that’s something.
Wish I’ve tested more from their lists, as I’m always curious in what the experts find interesting, but that’s life :))
I am based in EU, and I’d pretty much happy to win Ghost in the shell.

  • I feel lucky that I’ve heard of some of these producers – and even of some of the perfumes. Would love to smell Les Larmes d’Eden and Corpus Esquus, and also Ghost in the shell and lost Alice… so hard to choose!
Ok, if I were to win, I would choose Memory Lane first.
Thanks for making me really think about this one!
    I’m from Romania.

  • Nicoleta and Emmanuelle’s choices and especially reviews are very intriguing. They both have a special individual way with words that stir up curiosity and desire. Out of Nicoleta’s reviews my favorite is the one for “Lost Alice”, since it literally captures the feelings and emotional experiences of “Alice in Wonderland” perfectly. Out of Emmanuelle’s reviews I stopped at “ Les Larmes d’Aden” since it so beautifully describes an oriental ancient journey that stirs up the olfactory senses.
As I said before, both curiosity as well as desire have been stirred up in me, and I would love to experience these journeys as well, especially along with “Lost Alice”. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment!
    Best regards,
    Karina

Excellent choices from Nicoleta And Emmanuelle! I have deep admiration for all the new fragrances released in these weird times, and gratefulness to all the CaFleureBon editors and contributors who make the Best Of lists. I would say Nicoleta’s faves appeal to me more (I feel I would really love Vangaloria, Vicious Caco and Nanshe), though I have been very drawn to Odisiaque no 6 too. If I was lucky to win I would choose (in this order) Memory Lane and then Ghost in the Shell. Thank you from the Republic of Ireland, EU

  • Mazikeen Smith 24 says:

All editors, contributors, and journalists in CaFleurebon are talented and the best fragrance aficionados Ive seen, but Nicoleta (lilith eva <3) is my favorite. Always giving us such quality reviews, mixed with artistic view and clearness. Surely her top picks are the most interesting to me, as I see myself liking almost of them by just reading her review. Also, Cecile's creation was voted again! All best perfume picks has at least one of her creations, it says a lot about her talent. <3
I also love Emmanuele's picks, and short review, striaghtforward and clear.
I would love to win Etat Libre D Orange Ghost in a Shell, as this looks so mysterious and amazing at the same time.
Cheers and Happy New Year to all! <3 USA

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved learning about Nicoleta’s and Emmanuelle’s Top 10 Fragrance Picks for 2021. I have tried Nanshe and Lost Alice from Nicoleta’s list and love them both. Ghost in a Shell and Der Duft Match both sound really interesting based on the reviews and the note breakdowns. For Emmanuelle’s list I haven’t tried any of them, but several caught my attention to include Corpus Equus a dark and sensual leather fragrance and a soft and sensual fragrance such as  La Couleur de la Nuit. If I win I would pick Christele Jacquemin Memory Lane. I am from the USA.

  • Thanks to Nicoleta’s part describing Der Duft Match I have just discovered the concept of ASMR! Good point relating it to fragrances. I totally agree with choosing Lost Alice – super interesting gourmand. Regarding Emmanuelle choices, I am glad with the appearance of Green Spell – although I don’t know this scent but I was very encouraged by positive review of it on LolaScent yt channell.
I would love to win one of these: Lost Alice, Match, Memory Lane, Ghost in the Shell. I live in Poland.

  • It has been quite unanimous the 2021 list, almost 80% of the lists have the same perfumes. This shows how good they are!. Any list in CafleureBon or other media has, at least, one perfume made by Mme. Zarokian. It is amazing what this perfumer achieves year after year in any brand she works: in this case is Nishane, but look at the masterpieces perfumes she made this year in Amouage. But stellar perfumers are among the best year after year: Ropion, Duchafour,Lie…. and Corticchiato who brings us an amazing scent with the less “known” , ingredients, the soul of his land Corsica. If I were to win, I would choose Lost Alice by Masque Milano (the best story told in a gourmand perfume) or Ghost in A Shell by Etat Libre D’Orange (an airy experience). I live in Spain, EU.

  • Thank you Nicoleta and Emmanuelle for your top 10 !

Unfortunately, I don’t have the opportunity to try any of the fragrances mentioned in this article, but the one I am most interested to try is Synthetic Jungle,

I would like to win Der Duft Match.

Greeting from Portugal, an awesome and lovely smelling 2022 everyone!

  • Making Peach Cake with Mascarpone , and later eating it with friends in the garden, while drinking Black Tea. That’s what I imagined after reading about Anamcara .
Ghost in Shell I’ve tried, it’s so unusual , like eating Banana Pear cake , drinking apple juice, while sitting on my old plastic couch and watching anime ..
    Laboratorio Olfativo Vanagloria
    Dominique Ropion and vanilla…
Maison Tahite Vicious Cacao reminds me of Chocolate Ganache Cake, with Rum and Fresh Non-Candied raspberries on top.
Lost Alice is favorite again i see . Carrot Cake with Spiced Apricots, Honey Cream and Glazed Carrots , and drinking tea is what i’m thinking right now.
Les Larmes d´Aden Parfumeurs du Monde . I like it’s smokiness, resins, mild sweetness, and I’m also curious about the Blue ginger in it.
Masque Milano Lost Alice I’d like to win
Appreciate Nicoleta Tomsa, and Emmanuelle Varron hard work, and the giveaway campaign

I have had the chance to test some of the fragrances Ida and Lauryn chose as their best of and could not agree more on their choices! I am not a gourmand person but I own a bottle of Lost Alice and am considering buying the full bottle of Vicious Cacao, they are both great! I have purchased Cafleurebon’s Jovoy box on musk and have fallen totally with Musc Poudré, and many of the other perfumes listed here are on my wishlist. I am particularly intrigued by Mal-Aimé, Odisiaque and Ghost in A Shell, that I would like to win. Greetings from Italy

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the fantastic lists Nicoleta and Emmanuelle.

Synthetic Jungle is on my ‘to-try’ list.

I would love to win any of the fragrances available for the US.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Out of Nicoleta’s picks I think that the Ghost in A Shell is the most intresting, mostly because of ELDO’s reputation. I wonder if it’s wearable as a crowd pleaser or as a fragrance from this brand. I guess there’s no better way to know than trying it out.
For Emmanuelle’s picks, I will probably try all of these at some point, but Synthethic Jungle looks the most promising. I just love fragrances that skillfully mix old school with synthethics. Now I gotta make notes and see if I can find these relatively close to me.
If I happen to win I would take Ghost in A Shell first and Lost Alice close second. I live in Poland.

  • What a read again
Issara and Moonlight In Chiangmai are my favorites from Parfums Dusita. Latest offerings I don’t know , but i have to say all Pissara fragrances are like music evergreens from Tom Jones , Little Richard’s , Elvis Presley to me
Inspired by a famous manga , that’s so ELDO
Ghost in Shell attracts me with its unpredictability. Remarkable People for example somehow reminds me of Haribo grapefruit gummy bears, and I was expecting something…. different.
Maison Tahite Vicious Cacao is delicious chocolate fruity fragrance appropriate for the Winter weather .
Oud Seven opening sounds just a bit hairy-chested, with the exception quality Oud Assam Oil , but mellows into sensual resinous fragrance, with powerful woody facets . Top of the line cold weather fragrance i think.
Ketoret incense , Yemen , Parfumeurs du Monde Les Larmes d´Aden feels like a spiritual fragrance .
Russian Tea and Lost Alice are both special, one is dark with leather, mint and tea , and the other carrot cake comfortable, and cozy. Both I’d gladly wear.
    Lost Alice is my choice
    Exciting giveaway, USA

What a great article! I absolutely adore Nicoleta and Emmanuelle’s choices. I loved Cristele Jacquemin’s Impermanence, especially in this year of uncertainty, so I really enjoyed learning about Memory Lane. And I absolutely adore all the Dusita perfumes I’ve tried so far, not to mention I admire and respect Pissara Umivijani so so much, that Anamcara is on the top of my (very long) list of fragrances to sample. I just am so inspired by the meaning of the name of the fragrance and it’s inspiration, as well as attracted to the notes of blood orange, orange blossom, and jasmine with a black tea base. Of Emmanuelle’s choices, I am really intrigued by Odisiaque n°6, as I find some of my favorite fragrances to be those that unsettle and challenge me. The first one that comes to mind is interestingly enough also a green focused fragrance, Papillion’s Dryad. I think that I will likely enjoy Odisiaque n°6 as much as Dryad, which is a goodly amount! I also can’t help but be drawn in by Emmanuelle’s description of Corpus Equus, as it is composed of all of my favorite notes – leather, frankicense, rose, and amber.

I live in the US. I would be happy to win any of the fragrances in this draw, in the following order of preference: Lost Alice, Memory Lane, Ghost in a Shell, and Match. Thank you for the draw!

  • As usual I’ll share my thoughts on the fragrances from Nicoleta and Emmanuelle list I know, or want to try:
    1. Christian Provenzano Parfums Musc Poudré
I’m well aware of Christian Provenzano as perfumer, he made one of the best Penhaligon’s, Boadicea the Victorious and Clive Christian, but I don’t know his own brand.
    2. Anamcara by Parfums Dusita
A lot of fruits, rose , tea laying on the bed of sandalwood. In the base on me it gets almost jammy sweet.
3.Only Etat Libre D’Orange could release a fragrance named, and inspired by one of the greatest cyberpunk franchises, and seinen mangas ever. In this world Ghost in the Shell, and Masamune Shirow are considered royalties
    4. Frédéric Malle Synthetic Jungle
Huge anticipated fragrance, but to me Synthetic Jungle is just OK, the so treny lately overly green , and vegetal nuances are the main players on the field. Nowhere near masterpieces like Musc Ravageur , Portrait of a Lady and Promise.
    5. Vanagloria by Laboratorio Olfattivo
I was expecting something else. I prefer Alambar , Daimiris and Vanhera way more.
    6. I smelled briefly the Vanilla Collection, and Vanextasy i liked a lot. Vicious Cacao I think is comforting gourmand with chocolate, raspberries and rum , well suited for the season deliciousness.
    7. Lost Alice by Masque Milano is so refined and original. I also get a lot of rose , but it could be my body chemistry… Such a pleasant surprise.
8.Oud Seven is an interesting fragrance , with both dark, and light side , and connections to Harrods
    9. Corpus Equus in my opinion is Naomi Goodsir , and Bertrand Duchaufour take on the famous “Russian Leather” genre . It’s well made, but way too animalic for my taste.
10.Parfumeurs du Monde new fragrances I’m eager to try, especially Alexandre Helwani made Makeda , and Les Larmes d’Aden because of the Ketoret incense and resinous base
I’d like to get Lost Alice
    Thanks a lot

  • I really like end of the year top 10s
    Most appealing to me are

Nicoleta -> In my opinion Despina did fantastic review in the original article
Hands down Cafleurebon article for the year . “Soul Friend” , how Anamcara was created, the tribute to Christi Long Facebook group called “Eau My Soul” , tea, dried fruits, chocolatey patchouli, sandalwood , and special madagascar vanilla to balance the fragrance.
Nicoleta -> Etat Libre d’Orange are famous with (sometimes a lot….) quirky fragrances, I do believe Ghost in Shell is no exception.
Nicoleta -> Mysterious, fruity, and magically smoky , Russian Tea is my favorite Masque Milano. Lost in Alice i believe is like its younger, more playful cousin.
Emmanuelle Varron -> Les Larmes d’Aden , because of the really rare Temple of Jerusalem Ketoret incense
Emmanuelle Varron ->Matière Première Oud Seven , intriguing colder weather fragrance I’ll try next time in London .
I would prefer Lost in Alice
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • I sampled 3 of the fragrancees mentioned here. I didn’t get on with Ghost inthe Shell, but quite liked Green Spell. My favorite of the three was Memory Lane. Something about it reminded me of holiday smells around Christmas time, withour being the obvious cinnamon and pine of winter.
