State of Mind Voluptous Seduction

State of Mind Voluptous Seduction, AI-generated painting and collage by Nicoleta

The first time I have came across State of Mind perfumes, I felt I was standing on a bridge to a world where sensory delights overlap and intertwine in a fusion of color, sounds, tastes, and scents. A playground for synesthetes, the brand merges the exquisite rituals of tea and fragrance into a unique experience with an Art Nouveau twist. Every sip of tea is a key, and every perfume is a new door opened to a realm of perception where taste evokes a scent, scent stirs colors, and the colors hum songs, awakening the fleeting whisper of a forgotten memory, painted back into reality on your skin, with a scent.

Exquisite in its inception and profound in its delivery, State of Mind provides a unique and playful perspective into the art of perfumery, as it extends the invitation beyond the confines of traditional perfumery, proposing a journey where scents, tastes, and emotions converge to create a unique experience. With silk scarves, teas, perfumes, candles, and home diffusers for each scent, all of the senses are triggered, tickled, and pampered. And what door you chose to open and what mirror you will find inside will be the reflection of your State of Mind. Or better yet, the state of your soul.

Catherine Laskine-Balandina of State of Mind perfumes

Catherine Laskine-Balandina, founder and Creative Director via the brand

My beloved grandmother often told me about China — the Wall of Nine Dragons, the Great Wall, gardens, calligraphy, acupuncture, the lotus flower opening in a cup of tea, the scents and colors of tea shops… Through her wonderful stories, I traveled to the magical world filled with tastes of teas and fragrant gardens.” Fondatrice Catherine Laskine-Balandina has two favorite proverbs, one from China, that states ‘tea is a scent to drink, life is contained in a bowl of tea’ and one from Japan, ‘tea symbolizes Chi, the flow of all living things’. Her fierce confidence and unfettered belief in her vision served as the pillars that grounded her in the pursuit of this synesthetic project. Catherine enlisted the support of experts in their respective fields: experienced Tea Master, Olivier Scala, renowned perfumer, Karine Dubreuil, and accomplished illustrator, Elena Minenko – and so, through passion and their combined talents, the unique concept was brought to life.

Holding the beautiful red bottle, I take off the cap and I let the game begin. I smell the fresh bud of a rose, pink and sweet, I taste the sparkling juice of a red, ripe apple and almost hear the crunch of the first bite. The warmth of a  red storm, inside a porcelain tea cup, with flowers opening their petals one by one: sweet, slightly nutty, smooth, full-bodied, comforting yet deep. I inhale the rooibos aroma, infusing subtly on my skin,  and before my mind could de-chypre it, there’s a high pitch accord that gives me goosebumps. Is there a cold undercurrent, the thorn of the red rose, or is there a sound of a violin hidden beneath this not-accessed yet memory?

“Por una cabeza,
todas las locuras.
Su boca que besa,
borra la tristeza,
calma la amargura.”

“Por una Cabeza”, a tango classic composed by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera in 1935, captures the allure and power of the dance as showcased in the famed scene from the 1992 movie “Scent of a Woman” starring Al Pacino, with the violin virtuoso, Itzhak Perlman, giving the music life.

Fabian Perez Study For Tango painting, fair use

As my mind keeps playing the track, in a loop, I taste red and my mind takes me from movie frames to memories, and back in time, in my hometown, in the bar where I used to gloriously waste my teenage evenings drinking fancy teas with complicated names and pretended to be aristocratically ennui-ed by my life,  lamenting the fact that I was, for sure, born in the wrong era of minimalism, when my Victorian soul craved excess, decadence, and all forms of exquisite luxurious clutter. The spiral staircase, raising the hem of my long dress in the deliciously dizzying climb leading to the flickering yellow light of the entrance, the taste of my red fiery lipstick, carefully reapplied on my sharp cupid’s bow. I hear the click of my YSL Opium Red lipstick, and I sense the ghost of its smell, the waxy yet luxurious floral aroma. Was it a lily smell? Or just the sweet aroma of young vanity, everyone’s favorite sin?

Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette  (2006 movie still IMDb)

Voluptuous Seduction feels intricate and complicated yet its soul is delightfully light-hearted. It is voluptuous, in the most aristocratic way, but don’t let your mind wander to lascivious cruel smiles, powdered wigs, and drawn-on beauty marks. Think more of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette than Glen Close smiling as Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil. A scent that feels just like the flicker of an embroidered fan, moved quickly to hide the sudden rush of blood to one’s cheeks.

State of Mind Voluptuous Seduction

State of Mind Voluptuous Seduction, mood photo by Nicoleta

I have declared my love of roses in many ways and in various reviews on CaFleureBon, and yet the insatiable craving never fades. Voluptuous Seduction is a game we are invited to play. And it starts with a perfect, crisp, red apple. You bite in, and just when you think there’s just a pink rosebud, fruity, bubbly, and innocent, the depth of the tea swirls up and opens in sweet, delightful, and mysterious ways. Then, the waxiness of a nostalgic floral whisper would make you believe you are going to veer on the lipstick rose path, but you would be wrong again, as the construction feels light, airy, fresh, and modern. The maze of the sensory labyrinth is now made out of walls of Eglantines, and the prickly pink path keeps going further, from bright light infused with apple aromas into the shady realm, with earthy nuances, and deep woody aromas of cedarwood and the creaminess of santal.

State of Mind Voluptuous Seduction is an invitation to an enthralling olfactive dance that will keep you guessing, dancing, and swooning. The opulence of a floral bouquet mixed in with the freshness of fruits and the decadent darkness of truffles and woods will cater to the hedonistic cravings of any rose lover in the eternal search for their scented holy grail.

Notes: Top: Lys Blanc de la Madone, Rooibos, Apple; Heart: Truffles, Rose Velour, Eglantine, Base: Sandalwood, CedarWood

  • A tea fragrance with apple and truffles! Sounds delicious. Thanks for another awesome review and draw. Mich USA

  • As you all may well know by now, I am a rose addict so any time one pops up a huge smile appears on my face. As I was just commenting on yesterday’s review, I have rather recently discovered that I am a fan of tea in fragrances, a note that I wasn’t all that familiar with until about a year ago. To see it combined with luscious rose and juicy apple has my mouth watering already. I appreciated Nicoleta’s story of Catherine grandmother and the scent journeys she would take to China. I love when a scent can whisk you away to a far away land. It’s the best part of this hobby. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • The tea character of this fragrance sparks my interest because I’m just opsesed with tea and I love to collect all types of this magnificent drink just as I like to collect perfumes and try new things so this fragrance really stands with me and the romantic accent just makes it even better. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • Rose is still my favorite note and I do find it fun to explore all of your senses for every fragrance. Listening to the bottle cap being pulled out, the way the atomizer sprays, the way it feels as it dries down (is it cooling? resinous?), what the color of the liquid looks like…..everything except taste! hahaha! Tea and rose is an underrated combo, but I enjoy the green aspects that come with it. This fragrance seems intriguing, but also sort of comfortable? Like keeping things interesting with surprises.

    Cheers from Illinois, USA

  • Truffles and tea in a rose fragrance are so intriguing, this will go on my Must Try list. Sounds fabulous, and the embroidery of rich images paint a very attractive picture!

  • Nicoleta review blew me away. I always felt that I was born in the wrong time too. I love everything about state of mind voluptuous decadence as she describes it… the holy grail for rose lovers! Tango! Marie Antoinette!Truffles! Tea!

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Nicoleta for the review!

Voluptuous Seduction sounds quite dreamy! Rooibos, apple, and rose is certainly a surprising combination of notes. I’d love to give it a try.

  • I love how State of Mind provides a unique and playful perspective into the art of perfumery. What sparked my interest the most is how Nicoleta described her experiemce with the perfume as the warmth of a red storm, inside a porcelain tea cup, with flowers opening their petals one by one: sweet, slightly nutty, smooth, full-bodied, comforting yet deep.

  • What a gorgeous bottle which seems to carry a passionate, playful and exuberant fragrance inside! The references to tango music and Scent of a Woman were really symbolic. The rose being paired with cooling rooibos tea and crisp apple notes really intrigued me: I love rose centric perfumes but especially in summer, I really appreciate when some of the weight is taken off by fresher, tangier notes.

Well, this review and the scent behind it has set me off to go and buy a good tea to imbibe with taste and smell. I would love to try the combination of rooibos and rose and woods. From EU.

  • State of Mind Voluptuous Seduction had me interested right away. Love the Rose note , tea, apple truffles. Wonderful review. Thank you for this Chance USA

Thank you for the review of Voluptuous Seduction by State of Mind, Nicoleta!
Rose in fragrance will always have my heart, it is a flower with a scent that transports me to so many moments and places in my life and I always find comfort in it. The opening of the rose bud paired with the juicy apple is something I know I would just adore.
With your beautifully written, poetic review I found myself among an era of decadence illustrated by Victorian wealth and luxury, something I would love to experience myself.
With the note of tea coming into play then finishing with a woody drydown I find this to be a fragrance I would certainly be confident wearing and also feeling the sweet nostalgia of the rose that has always lingered upon first sniff.
    John – Minnesota, USA

  • I love roses and I often stop and smell the roses that come in my way if I find them when I walk. I think the pairing with woods is very inspired. As far as truffles go, the darkness element that you describe, I assume it also works very well.
    I’m in the EU.

  • The combination of truffles and tea infused with a hint of rose fragrance is incredibly captivating. It’s definitely something that I must try and add to my list. The idea sounds absolutely marvelous, and the vivid descriptions evoke an alluring image.
    New Jersey, USA

  • I’m intrigued by this fruity, airy, fresh rose with truffles in the heart! It sounds so unique – I would love to win a bottle! I’m in MN, USA.

  • Only recently has my tastes expanded to embrace florals. I’m really enjoying many of them now, and rose has certainly been around them, as had the introduction of more tea scents (I miss tea for two). In maryland.

  • I really love the State of Mind aesthetic. The bottles really are works of art and the colors of the stopper and the juice really are viscerally appealing. Tea is one of my favorite notes for summer fragrances. I don’t believe I’ve experienced rooibos in a perfume before, but here it seems to pair magnificently with the apple and roses, I can see why the theme of Voluptuous Seduction is red. Would love to own this! I’m in the US.

  • Fantastic review by Nicoleta.
State of Mind is a great fragrance house that I discovered thanks to Cafleurebon.
Voluptous Seduction is something I would adore to add to my collection. The opening with red apples, the roses and the woody notes with cedarwood, just amazing.

I adore rose perfumes and still looking for that special one that is not just a classic rose, but much more. • This is a truly amazing review, and by the end of it, I could’ve guessed Nicoleta loves roses. She’s also a very gifted writer, I could read a book with chapters named after perfumes she describes.
The bottle looks astonishing and you could tell no effort was too big for the brand.
As for the perfume…rose and tea, not rose tea…should be interesting to wear and finally cross that bridge she mentions.
I’m in EU, thanks for the review and the draw.

  • Oh, I couldn’t agree with you more about “the insatiable craving never fades”!!!! I cannot get enough of rose fragrances! The comprise a big percentage of my collection. I love that the opening of this perfume is an apple note and that the note continues throughout the transition of the fragrance. To me, apple brings a youthful, upbeat feeling to any scent. It sounds lovely. Plus, I’ve never experienced this perfume house so it would be a real treat to score this fragrance!

State of Mind Voluptuous Seduction sounds like something I would like. I like the idea of using the combination of apple, tea, rose, and the woody base. Nicoleta’s review made this fragrance seem enticing to me. I like when Nicoleta describes the fragrance as: “the construction feels light, airy, fresh, and modern”, and “the prickly pink path keeps going further, from bright light infused with apple aromas into the shady realm, with earthy nuances, and deep woody aromas of cedarwood and the creaminess of santal.” I live in the U.S.A.

First time I’ve ever heard of State of Mind house before was when I read Karl Topham take on Fanfarone Italiano. As a Pastry Chef, and gourmand lover I was so impressed with his Crème de Cassis Chocolate Cake drizzled with cognac ,and drinking ristretto like review, I had to order a sample set , hard task to be honest. I looked for hours, and the only place i was able to find the full sample set was on Ebay

“Parfums Raffy carries the brand in the USA, so be sure to sample or buy, or order directly from the State of Mind Website”

I ordered my sample set from Ebay, and not from Parfums Raffy for the sole reason they don’t have Fanfarone Italiano available.
I like the idea of having fragrances leaving you with the impression of drinking tea , or coffee. I agree with Nicoleta’s take on Voluptuous Seduction , I like the crisp apple, and the room rooibois tea accords the most. In my Pastry Chef mind Nicoleta’s take , and my own impressions make me think of being in Paris, and eating the Classic French Apple Cake , drinking rooibois tea , while on a walk with my girlfriend in Tuileries Gardens.
Fanfarone Italiano is my favorite State of Mind fragrance.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • State of Mind has wonderful branding—beautiful bottles like the one used for Voluptuous Seduction, a wide range of products within a cohesive synesthesia theme, and a tea palette used across many perfumes. And Voluptuous Seduction sounds like a unique selection among many unique perfumes, layering ruby, pink, mauve, burgundy, and cardinal reds. I love the idea of using the ruddy, honeyed qualities of Rooibos as a focal point for rose and sandalwood. Thanks for the detailed review, Nicoleta.

I loved Nicoleta’s review of State of Mind Voluptuous Seduction. I loved learning about founder and creative director Catherine Laskine-Balandina has two favorite proverbs, one from China, that states ‘tea is a scent to drink, life is contained in a bowl of tea’ and one from Japan, ‘tea symbolizes Chi, the flow of all living things’. • “The maze of the sensory labyrinth is now made out of walls of Eglantines, and the prickly pink path keeps going further, from bright light infused with apple aromas into the shady realm, with earthy nuances, and deep woody aromas of cedarwood and the creaminess of santal”.

This must be the most the most evocative passage I have read lately in terms of the evolution of a perfume from beginning to end. Usually, the reviews do not manage to be so compact that you can imagine the trip you are going to take in a few lines. But Nicoleta achieved something remarkable here!

Thank you for the draw and I will LOVE to be counted in. Also, I love the concept and the name – State of Mind – it gives me goosebumps!

  • Nice review Nicoleta! My first contact with State of Mind and the abilities of the brand with all its portfolio to make our senses triggered, tickled, and pampered. Mrs. Laskine-Balandina with some asian proverbs to show what tea means to them, gather a team to build a scent around it. The red beautiful bottle opens with a red apple & red rose petals steal the show in a voluptuous way (hence the name) like the Gardel Tango that Nicoleta recalls : a dance of a floral bouquet mixed in with the freshness of fruits. I live in Spain, EU.

As always, Nicoleta’s review makes me run to buy yet another perfume without trying it. Maybe I’ll win a bottle. Roses are my absolute favorites hence my name.

  • Beautiful and well written review by Nicoleta of State of Mind Voluptuous Seduction. What sparks my interest in this opulent rose fragrance is the notes of apple. truffles and woods. This could be a holy grail rose fragrance that has an enthralling olfactive dance. Thanks for the opportunity. Greetings and gratitude from the USA.

  • I’m new to State of Mind, and I’m intrigued now. Considering the stressful times we’re living in at the moment , Voluptuous Seduction is like a mental getaway trip . Who doesn’t want to have a carefree day , relaxing and drinking tea in Spain ? No one…
I also like the complexity of the fragrance, and how different the opening and the base are.The crisp apple , the lipstick rose , tea and woods are the notes I’m looking for the most.
I believe the fragrance would have sensual trail , with slightly playful properties
    Thanks for the draw

I do have a good feeling about State of Mind fragrances. Catherine Laskine Balandina and her brand i think represents the best of modern day beauty , passion and sensuality.
I’m pleased Voluptuous Seduction is not just a well made fruity floral. The balance between the notes i find appealing , especially the tea and the rose. I’d pair Voluptuous Seduction with Pink Herringbone Linen Tailored Suit, Double Cuff cotton Pin Collar Shirt and tan loafers.

    Greetings everyone
-be sure to sample or buy, or order directly from the State of Mind Website-
I’d actually suggest 3rd option, just go to their boutique if you live in Paris , or visit the city. The concept of blending tea and fragrances under one umbrella is so unconventional, it works very well for State of Mind. I had to visit their boutique, at least I thought it was a boutique , it’s something else actually. You can find them at the antiquarian quarter, right next to the Notre-Dame market in Versailles. The place is so unique, partially tea shop , partially boulangerie and perfume shop too. Unfortunately one old , and very picky customer call me for his son’s wedding rings, and I had to go back…I never even got the chance to finish my dessert , or to smell State of Mind fragrances , but I’ll definitely go back as soon as I can. Yes you can buy not tea and delicious desserts at State of Mind cozy place.
What sparked my interest in Voluptuous Seduction is the playful fruity vibe coming from the apple and the tea
Thank you, American living in Paris France

I’m familiar with all State of Mind fragrances, including Fanfarone Italiano. It’s a bit of odd story how I discovered the brand, first i bought the sample set directly from their website. Open Mind i sampled by mistake later on , with my sample purchase, i also ordered a sample of Fanfarone Italiano ,but instead received a sample of Open Mind , and then again ordered a sample of Fanfarone Italiano .
If I have to rate my favorite State of Mind fragrances:
    1. Fanfarone Italiano… no questions asked.
    2. Spontaneous Generosity / Modern Nomad
    3. Secret of Success
I do understand the name of the fragrance Voluptuous Seduction suggest a voluptuous and seductive fragrance , but unlike Nicoleta on my skin I get something very different , warm and comfortable sweet apples tea fragrance, jammy rose and creamy sandalwood. It’s smells really good , but it’s more suited for casual scenarios imo , walking in the park with friends, rather than seducing someone with its aroma.
    All profiles I already follow, including @catherinelaskinebalandina , @waltherp99bg
