I tend not too like super aquatic/salty fragrances but this one does sound very unique. A mix of aquatic with the fruity component of it is peaking my attention. The saltiness worries me a little but I trust the judgment that it’s pleasant overall. I had kk idea what Gyokuro was but I like the umami quality so that part sounds superb to me. Cheers from NJ, USA.

  • Incredible, I’ve never ever seen Gyokuro as an ingredient in a Perfume before, I’m convinced that this perfume is unique amongst perfumes, a one of a kind, the presentation of the bottle is stunning, it’s a definite must have. This could well be THE Perfume of 2023

  • I really enjoy Steven’s perspective on fragrances. The note breakdown is very intriguing and a great summer fragrance is priceless!

  • I really enjoy Steven’s perspective on fragrances. The note breakdown is very intriguing and I enjoy aquatics fragrances. A great summer fragrance is priceless!

Thank you for the introduction of State of Mind Open Mind, Karl and Michelyn thank you for the video review, Steven!
Open Mind sounds very appealing to me. I love melon aquatic fragrances, as Nasomatto’s Fantomas is one I truly adore that really plays a unique spin on a salty, melon, ozonic perfume.
Steven’s video review really brought my attention to this when he speaks of the melon in the opening and the saltiness in its oceanic freshness. I love how the opening of those notes feeds into the heart notes as well which continues its bright fresh experience. Open Mind sounds very special and unique and would really suit me for a Summer fragrance. Wow, and a 10 hour longevity with good projection? All things I would hope for with this type of scent.
As Karl mentioned in the introduction that Open Mind settles down with guaiac wood in its base is just the lovely finish I would desire.
And my goodness, that bottle! Art Deco heaven, and that beautiful blue to illustrate the oceanic waves that reside inside.

I am a huge fan of aquatic perfumes, so this one sounds down my alley!
I am intrigued by the unique concept behind the brand and this particular fragrance. The fusion of perfumery and tea sounds like a fascinating combination, and the attention to detail in the logo, illustrations, and flacons suggests a brand that values craftsmanship.
The descriptions of Michelyn and Karl are great. I can imagine the fragrance evoking a relaxing day by the sea, enjoying a cup of tea.
Steven’s review further reinforces the appeal of Open Mind, describing it as a clean, fresh, slightly fruity scent with a hint of creaminess. The mention of it being reminiscent of Profumum Roma’s Aqua di Sale and its oceanic, summery vibe makes it even more appealing for me.

And I also adore the color of the glass, which reminds me of a moonstone opal. Beautiful presentation.

I’m curious to experience the fragrance for myself and see how it translates into a sensory journey that combines perfumery and the art of tea.

WOW…..This fragrance sounds AMAZING……What sparked my interest is the melon….I just purchased a bottle of Blu Atlas Atlantis and I smell heavy melon, but the notes doesn’t mention any melon. So im excited to see how the melon smell in a fragrance….Sounds mass appealing and very beach/summerish which is up my alley since I visit CA very frequently…….Much success from Missouri, USA

  • joshuabrian says:

This sounds awesome. Thanks Steven, Michelyn and Karl for always opening my eyes to new and exciting perfumes. Thanks for the opportunity. From USA.

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

Drinking tea by the sea. How nice that sounds right now. I like Steven’s remark about the fragrance being unique, oceanic, and fruity as well. I live in Maryland USA.

  • I’m always looking for unusual aquatics. In very hot weather, I crave the cooling quality of their smells. But I find a lot of designer aquatics dull. Steven makes this one sound interesting in its combination of tea, fruitiness and saltiness. I also liked Michelyn and Karl’s statement that it’s a reminder of the benefits of positivity (lord knows I can use a bit more of that these days). I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

  • Well I’m a huge tea fan so this fragrance immediately sparkled my interest, I find that the scent of tea is mesmerising and it gives me harmony. I also love how aquatic and refreshing it is. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • What an awesome review by Steven and a great article about this fragrance. I live in a hot climate and I’m always on the lookout for some great compliment getting freshies. Open Mind seems like it will be just that. Best of luck to all who enter and thanks for the opportunity.

  • Aquatics are certainly a genre that can be a bit overplayed so I am always excited when I see brands stray from the usual path and put a unique twist on the profile. State of Mind certainly seems to have done that with Open Mind. As a fan of tea notes, I am eager to see how they have brought out the often delicate nuances of tea in the composition. I am equally intrigued by the hinoki – its unique green and sometimes sharp woodiness will be an interesting player in the formula. Steven talked quite a bit about the saltiness of the fragrance, which I think would go hand in hand with the fruitiness of the melon. Michelyn spoke briefly of the warmth in the base of the fragrance, which is refreshing because so many aquatics tend to fall flat and cold at the end. Overall, this sounds like a very unique take on a rather cliche genre of perfumery. I’m sure it’s perfect for the humid summer heat here in the south. I would love to give it a shot. I live in NC, USA.

  • In the desert you can never have too many unique hot weather fragrances so I was in as soon as I saw Steven’s video thumbnail. The presentation is very nice and I’m a sucker for a cool bottle. My most work fragrance of 2022 was also a tea scent so this mix is pretty exciting. If I don’t win the draw I will still have to get my nose on this for sure.

This fragrance definitely sounds like something I would wear. I’ve been trying to find a new summer scent

  • State of Mind Open Mind seems like an interesting twist on an acquatic fragrance with woody undertones. It almost seems like a hybrid of citrusy and rooty earthy notes. USA.

  • I have been waiting for this review for so long. I have known this brand for a long time but still have not seen many reviews about this beauty. Melon with tea, a unique combination, will shine through hot days during this summer.
    I live in Florida, USA.

  • Giovanni Perez says:

When Steven said that is has a playful fruity type, it got my attention right away. United States of America

  • Jose A Baez says:

Wow, I love the presentation and the note breakdown has me excited..
I need this in my collection..

  • This fragrance sounds absolutely incredible. Michelyn’s description of the notes is so appealing and it contains some of my favorites — the delicate balance of fruit, aquatic/ozonic notes, gentle woods, and calming tea and lotus sounds so refreshing and centering. As for Steven’s review, I was intrigued by his emphasis on the saltiness of the fragrance and how that plays along with the other notes present. Sounds like a really beautiful scent for the summer!

I live in New York, in the USA!

  • fragrancelove says:

I love tea fragrances.. aquatic tea is something new or at least new to me. I liked Michelyn’s description and introduction to the brand. Steven also described it well. Melon on a tea note is something new snd very summery. Lotus and woody notes on the base is a new direction that I would like to try. thank you for the review..

  • Have been looking for a natural aquatic scent that not everyone else might be wearing

  • Sam Koenig says:

As someone who enjoys the aquatic genre of fragrance, Steven definitely sold me on this! Acqua di Sale is one of the greats in this category and hearing the two have some similarities has certainly peaked my interest. Thank you for doing this great promotion!

  • Farewellsmell says:

What really sparked my interest about Open Mind was the asian/japanese influences on this fragrance in it’s notes, with the melon, Hinoki, tea, and lotus. The progression of this fragrance is quite different from other aquatic/oceanic fragrances with the addition of the melon, and also with the earthy notes that come in later. I would love to try this in the overbearing summer heat.
    TX, USA.

  • Have never owned a fresh, aquatic, oceanic scent. Being from California I’d love to win this

  • Open Mind sounds glorious and so good for hot summer days! Ozonic, salty, citrusy in the opening and with a touch of tea, it sounds like the perfect companion for a day at the beach or a day when you’d rather be at the beach!
As Michelyn said, a sip of positivity.
The fact Steven compared it to Acqua di sale in some ways is very promising.
Plus, how gorgeous is the bottle?
    Commenting from the EU.

  • Patricia R. says:

An exciting creation. I would be delighted to smell the woods and the aquatics, with a bit of fruit. I think I would try to wear it in the warm rain, and experiment trying it out in different weathers, snow even. I love the whole raneg of this brand revolves about tea. The presentation – the metal caddy and the bottle – are so beautiful. I d like to try the whole range.

  • Vasyl Shyyka says:

I love this tape of fragrances!
Should be very nice parfum for upcoming summer …

  • Since I already have a bunch of traditional aquatics, I like the fact that this one serves the same purpose, while being completely different. Michelyn describes it as “Refreshing” and that’s what I’m looking for these days. New Jersey, USA

  • What a surprise, a nice aquatic or as Michelyn and Karl say “a neo-aquatic”. This genre were a bit undervalued in the niche world because the use and abuse of calone but Ms.Dubreuil-Sereni crafted a scent with a japanese vibe so the sea should be in japanese shores eating the precious japanese melon. Steven stands out the realistic salty oceanic touch upon a playful fruity vibe being the melon stronger than the lime. He thinks is one of the most unique scent we could chose for the summer and I agree. Open Mind as all State of Mind fragrances has an amazing presentation (box and flacon) that needs to be appreciated. I live in Spain, EU.

  • Steven always describes fragrances at a level that makes you want to eat them, and this one is no exception. Sounds like the perfect summer blend!

  • Wow sounds amazing would love to smell it in person. I’m a big fan of fresh ocean scents would love to see how the watermelon comes out in it. Well, here’s hoping your luck to everyone Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

  • Sounds amazing. I’m a big fan of fresh ocean sense. Would love the chance to see how the watermelon takes it off well here’s hoping good luck to everyone. Fingers crossed Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

  • Aaron Vascos says:

I really want to put my nose on this one, grew up on aquatic and fresh scents. Very interesting breakdown.

  • wandering_nose says:

Ah thank you Michelyn and Karl for introducing Open Mind to us readers! I was captivated the moment I saw the bottle with its color and the amazing name. I love how we are being walked through the sequence of notes – and what a fantastic combination of notes we have here! I used to be very much into fragrances with the note of melon back in mid to late 90s so a “vibrant neo-aquatic perfume with fruitiness added by the melon note” with tea and salty breeze has piqued my interest straight away. It is good to hear from Steven that the melon adds a tart and juicy fruity vibe and effervescence to the composition. I also love a well executed oceanic component in fragrances – it has always puzzled me why to most people aquatic means male by default. Interesting to hear Steven’s opinion that Open Mind is a powerful fragrance but then, with such a name that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Also, good news about the more than god longevity – 10 hours is truly impressive for a summery perfume! Last but not least, the overall presentation is amazing and the flacon is something I would absolutely obsess over if I was to get my hands on it. The most beautiful, clear, peaceful shade of blue, truly heavenly. Many thanks from the EU

  • Wow! I love the triangle prism bottle! It’s gorgeous with the beautiful blue color and the matching stopper. The notes produce a really fascinating take on the aquatic theme. The lime and melon is a summery fruit cocktail and the combination with ozone, tea and woods reminds me of relaxing on the sand with some beach grass nearby. I like Steven’s breakdown of the notes and his mention of melon in the opening. I’m in the US.

  • odudu@outlook.com says:

Michelin and Karl’s review paints a picture of this perfumes as a refreshing and sophisticated scent by their description of how the notes come together. Also
as usual Steven’s video describes the scent in a way way that’s alluring and intriguing. I always enjoy his picks and I’ll like Open Mind too.

I was not expecting such a unique “vibrant neo-aquatic” like State of Mind Open Mind.
I really like Michelyn idea of drinking tea by the sea. Judging by all 3 contributions today, Open Mind is a laid back fragrance with salty melon ,tea and woods.
The universal message in the fragrance is quite clear , you should be enjoying life way more , relax, drink tea and don’t worry oneself .

I do have a good feeling about State of Mind fragrances.
Catherine Laskine Balandina and her brand i think represents the best of modern day beauty , passion and sensuality.
I’m pleased Open Mind is not just a well made aquatic. The balance between the notes i find appealing, melon, cypress and hinoki combination I’m attracted to. I’d pair Open Mind with white linen suit, light blue shirt and tan loafers.
Thank you Steven, Michelyn,Karl Topham , Catherine Laskine Balandina and State of Mind

  • I absolutely love the Open Mind presentation—that triangular blue bottle is gorgeous and stands out from a crowd. The State of Mind focus on tea as a central accord is also an intriguing; when done well, tea fragrances are among my favorites, and particularly dynamic on the skin. I’m not familiar with Gyokuro tea, but Michelyn mentioned it brings an umami quality to this fruity aquatic, which strikes me as an ideal use of a tea note and a compelling combination. Steven focused on Open Mind as a seasonal fragrance, and the juicy, effervescent combination of melon, lime, salt, and hinoki is perfect for hot, sunny weather. I’m also intrigued by the subtle, complex earthiness he pointed out.

    I’m in the USA.

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Michelyn, Karl, and Steven for the reviews! This scent has many unique notes (melon, gyokuro, lotus, and blue cypress are definitely on the rarer side; and sea fennel is one I’ve never seen before)! I’d absolutely love to give State of Mind’s Open Mind a try — it seems like it’d be so refreshing for the summer.

  • Karl and Michelyn, thank you for introducing Open Mind from the lovely brand, State of Mind. I also want to thank Steven for his nice video review. I really appreciate this brand’s designs and the chosen names, especially Open Mind, which has a very appealing sound to it. I have a fondness for melon aquatic fragrances, and Nasomatto’s Fantomas is one that I truly adore because it offers a unique twist with its salty, melon, and ozonic notes. Steven’s video review caught my attention, particularly when he mentioned the melon in the opening and the saltiness in its fresh oceanic character. I love how these opening notes seamlessly transition into the heart notes, maintaining a bright and fresh experience. Open Mind sounds incredibly special and unique, making it a perfect fragrance for summer. The fact that it has a longevity of 10 hours with good projection is exactly what I would hope for in this type of scent. As Karl mentioned in the introduction, Open Mind settles down with guaiac wood in its base, which provides the lovely finishing touch that I desire.
Warm regards from Abu Dhabi, UAE!

  • Thanks again Karl for introducing us to State of Mind and I appreciated that Michelyn worked with Steven to give this new release some extra attention.

The bottle design is very eye-catching and I’m excited to read that the contents are similarly as interesting!

Fresh fragrances are my most worn and most appreciated fragrances. I have quite a few so I wasn’t immediately sold, but after reading about the notes of Hinoki, Gyokuro and Lotus I’m starting to get that curiosity which will haunt my mind until I try it!

Steven only enhanced this feeling with his excellent comprehensive review. This sounds really unique and I can’t wait to try it out!

    Greetings from the UK!
PS. You had me at ‘tea’!

  • I’m not generally a fan of aquatics, but this one has something different about it. I can appreciate a tea fragrance, so I can also imagine a day spend by the sea and sipping on tea and having melon with lime and salt as my snack. This sounds really good. It sounds refreshing and different.
    Cheers from Illinois, USA!

I’m familiar with all State of Mind fragrances, excluding Fanfarone Italiano. I bought the sample set directly from their website. Open Mind i sampled by mistake, with my latest sample purchase, i also ordered a sample of Fanfarone Italiano ,but instead received a sample of Open Mind.
If I have to rate my favorite State of Mind fragrances:
    1. Spontaneous Generosity
    2. Modern Nomad
    3. Secret of Success / Open Mind
Open Mind is not a simple , or linear fragrance, it goes into few different phases, and changes a lot. Salty , fruity, woody, green tea…
Absolutely love the Gyokuro tea by the sea picture Michelyn painted in my mind.
Now I definitely don’t get , even slightly the Acqua di Sale by Profumum Roma comparison Steven made , similar genre…maybe, but Acqua di Sale is much greener, way more salty and honestly fishy.
Maybe Steven never smelled it, but the closest fragrance to State of Mind I can think of is Honiara by Fort & Manle , and also some aspects of Amongst Waves by Gallagher Fragrances.
    All profiles I already follow, including @karinedubreulsereni , and @catherinelaskinebalandina , @waltherp99bg

First time I’ve ever heard of State of Mind house before was when I read Karl Topham take on Fanfarone Italiano. As a Pastry Chef, and gourmand lover I was so impressed with his Crème de Cassis Chocolate Cake drizzled with cognac ,and drinking ristretto like review, I had to order a sample set , hard task to be honest. I looked for hours, and the only place i was able to finf the full sample set was on Ebay, I’m still waiting for delivery.
I like the idea of having fragrances leaving you with the impression of drinking tea , or coffee.

“Gyokuro tea adds a umami quality”

    Great 🙂
Gyokuro tea , for those who don’t know, is one of the best, and most expensive Japanese green tea . Both the aroma , and the taste are hard to describe . The Gyokuro vegetal aroma is there, there’s something floral too , and also a steamed corn sweetness, and thick creaminess that reminds me of custard cream fondant .
Michelyn, Karl and Steven combined take on Open Mind made me think of making, and later on eating Melon Cake ,with candied lime on top , and drinking Gyokuro tea, while sitting on beach in Okinawa.
Appreciate the 3 reviews, and the giveaway campaign

Considering the stressful times we’re living in at the moment , Open Mind is like a mental getaway trip . Who doesn’t want to have a carefree day , relaxing and drinking tea by the sea? No one…
I also like the complexity of the fragrance, and how different the opening and the base are.
The salty melon, the lime , tea and woods are the notes I’m looking for the most.
    Thanks for the draw

    Greetings everyone
The concept of blending tea and fragrances under one umbrella is so unconventional, it works very well for State of Mind. I had to visit their boutique, at least I thought it was a boutique , it’s something else actually. You can find them at the antiquarian quarter, right next to the Notre-Dame market in Versailles. The place is unique, partially tea shop , partially boulangerie and perfume shop too. Unfortunately one old , and very picky customer call me for his son’s wedding rings, and I had to go back…I never even got the chance to finish my dessert , or to smell State of Mind fragrances , but I’ll definitely go back as soon as I can.
What sparked my interest in Open Mind is my visit to their place, the playful fruity vibe coming from the melon, the umami qualities and the overall relaxing vibe.
Thank you, American living in Paris France
