Le Galion Ferveur Review (Rodrigo Flores-Roux) 2022 + the rediscovery giveaway

Le Galion Ferveur

Le Galion Ferveur, a fragrance that evokes the 1930s, when French perfumer Paul Vacher was also the brand’s owner. Thanks to AI and some chosen keywords (#ferveur, #elegance, #1930s, #chic, #elegance, #Paris), the glass flask is juxtaposed with some essential Parisian symbols – AI picture via Midjourney, bottle ©Le Galion and collage ©Emmanuelle Varron.

Over the past few months, the perfumes introduced during Esxence 2022 are finally ready for official launch. This gives me the opportunity to rediscover them without the distraction of trying to work my way through 300 brands in four days. One such rediscovery is Le Galion Ferveur. Presented in Milan by Nicolas Chabot, who took over 10 years ago the historic French house created in 1930 (on Prince Murat’s initiative), Le Galion Ferveur brought out my childhood memories as well as awakened my olfactory and visual sensibilities. And remember, it was in my Esxence 2022 top 10 perfumes!

Nicolas Chabot called on master perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux, one of the greatest experts in vintage perfumery, who has an encyclopedic knowledge of remarkable perfumes, brands and perfumers. Already the author of Le Galion Eau Noble (2022 version), Le Galion Bourrasque (2020 version), Le Galion Jasmin (2020 version), Le Galion l’Ame Perdue, Le Galion Cologne and Le Galion Cologne Nocturne, he created the first amber in the collection, paying homage to Paul Vacher, historical perfumer (and owner) of Le Galion, who could have composed this fragrance which moves between vintage and modern; but the signature of Givaudan’s Senior Perfumer is undeniable, skillfully mixing sensuality, richness and boldness. The name “Ferveur” (meaning “Fervor”) perfectly matches the state of passionate elation that this fragrance induces in me.

The bottle is exactly the same as the recently launched design which was created for the 50th anniversary of Le Galion Eau Noble going from a slender shape to that of a flask, embracing the famous art-deco styles that are the brand’s DNA. Let me tell you about Pierre Dinand, a prestigious French designer (we owe him, among others, the bottles designed Yves Saint-Laurent Opium, Paco Rabanne Calandre, Paco Rabanne Phantom, Calvin Klein Obsession, Givenchy Ysatis, Neela Vermeire, Map of the Heart and Vilhelm Parfumerie) supported by his grandson Jules, who continues the family tradition (Pierre Dinand also created the original in 1972.) Le Galion Ferveur is reminiscent in its shape of the mythical Dior Eau Sauvage but personally, it reminds me of my father’s whiskey flask that he used to carry in his cello case.

Back to my Le Galion Ferveur discovery at Esxence 2022: in the midst of the multitude of perfumes I was able to smell, often with a complex and unexpected composition, the creation of Rodrigo Flores-Roux immediately transported me to the late 70s, the time of my first concrete olfactory memories. A father wearing Clinique Aromatics Elixir, a mother alternating between Estée Lauder Cinnabar and Yves Saint-Laurent Opium: these are my references, which inevitably remain anchored in my olfactory affect. At the first (and only spray), I almost fell backwards: my heart started to beat faster, and a burst of emotion rose within me. It-was-just-beautiful! A real emotional pull, that lasted for many months in my imagination, since Nicolas Chabot had no sample available in Milan.

Now, I can finally review this timeless fragrance.  From the start, you can smell the amazing raw materials that are used; the opening is like fireworks composed of bergamot, clary sage, cypress and myrtle, where the spicy, chypre and woody notes take the ascendancy from the first seconds. A thunderous start that is reminiscent of a mix between Guerlain Habit Rouge and Yves Saint-Laurent Opium pour Homme, two sublime fragrances playing on the contrasts between aromatics, spices and resins. As the minutes go by, the intensity never weakens, as other ingredients come into play: the iris brings a vintage powdery facet, combined with a delicate rose with a hint of honey.  Vanilla joins the celebration, with a controlled sweetness and a  warm glowing crescendo. In the background, incense gains momentum, carried by balms and spices. Rodrigo Flores-Roux has the talent of giving majesty to raw materials, not hesitating to mix them in skillfully studied proportions where each one blazes without stifling the others. Coriander brings its tonicity and cinnamon leaf its exoticism in the midst of a sumptuous leather-wood-balm alliance that clings to the skin with intensity. Le Galion Ferveur is one of those perfumes that captivates from the very first seconds, and whose effect does not weaken throughout its evolution. Thanks to its remarkable longevity, I appreciate being still able to smell it when I wake up, warm and reassuring.

Notes: green bergamot, clary sage, myrtle, cypress, iris, rose, coriander, cinnamon tree leaf, vanilla, styrax, Tolu balsam, patchouli, vetiver, incense, leather.

Disclaimer: A “mille mercis” to Le Galion for the 10 ml Ferveur sample bottle provided for this review. The opinions expressed are my own.

  • Love the brand Galion! I have the one dddicated to the tillue flower and it’s amazing I love the bottle so stunning!

  • Yeah, I did not think of it at first but the bottle of Le Galion Ferveur does slightly hint at iconic eau sauvage ribbed bottle. Rodrigo is a great choice for a perfumer but I have noticed he has, indeed, worked on many modernizations of classic fragrances including Houbigant Fougere Royale. Le Galion Ferveur seems to Emmanuelle of two classic men scents, both of which I have, ie. Opium Pour Homme and Habit Rouge. I am in US.

Nice reading. It takes you to memory lane when describing those olfactory details. The first fragrances I recall are the ones my parents worn.
The bottle design is stunning. Classy and clean.
I never have had the opportunity to smell Le Galion Ferveur. That’s why I hope to get the opportunity to win this giveaway.

  • Joshua Doty says:

Oh my gosh I’m so loving all of your publishings. So happy I found it. Extremely educational and always learning of different scents.
Thank You For All Your Hard Work!!!!!!!!!

  • This sounds like a grown up skin scent, like next generation. Quite fitting for Le Galion which I associate with unspectacular, yet rounded and stable scents. I’d love to smell this on my wife. Please let me win this to Germany, thank you for the draw.

  • Im so happy to brands like Le Galion make a comeback on the perfume stage. I love the aesthetic of the brand, their classic approach to perfumery and the wide array they offer. Ferveur seems to encompass all the classic scents I love. Would like to try it out!
    Thanks for the giveaway

  • That moment when you awaken and turn to smell your wrist and feel the comfort of that first breathe in, aaah it is still with me! This moment was captured in Emmanuelle’s description …making us all long to smell this even more!!
I have heard wonderful things about L’Âme Perdue but do not own any Galion as of yet.
    Hoping with gratitude in California.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

In Ferveur is mixing sensuality, richness and boldness in a classic way like old school in same time. I am from EU

  • You really took us on a journey as you described how the perfume unfolds! I almost felt like also falling backwards at first sniff 🙂 thank you for the review, writing from the EU.

  • Emmanuelle, thank you for this splendid journey back in time. Seems like a true aristocratic scent with high quality standard and great references.
I am not familiar with Le Galion.
    Hugs from Romania

  • I’ve never had the opportunity to smell Le Galion Ferveur, but it sounds amazing. I live in Houston Texas and would like to enter the giveaway. Thanks

  • I feel after reading the review that Emmanuelle really likes Ferveur. A lot.

From Emmanuelle’s review this new perfume from Le Galion seems quintessential French: sumptuous, with vintage powdery facets, yet controlled sweetness. Love the masculine bottle.

    I live in Portugal

  • This was an excellent read! I have yet to try anything from Galion but this sounds like a masterpiece. It sounds to be a classy fragrance. Would love a chance to try. Thanks for the opportunity. From CT, USA.

  • Jacob D Savitt says:

Love Emanuelle’s description of this seemingly woodsy and earthy composition- sounds like a divine combination of naturals. Never heard of Galion, but I intend to find out more!

  • Scent has such a power of evoking memories. I enjoyed reading Emmanuelle’s description of how smelling Le Galion Ferveur transported her to the seventies. I don’t have any experience with this brand, but from Emmanuelle’s review of Le Galion Ferveur, it seems to be a lovely perfume. The beautifully designed bottle reminds me also of Christian Dior’s Jules (the newer version). Thanks for the review and draw. I’m from the USA.

  • I always like to hear what the perfumers intent is. It is such a great jumping off point. I haven’t tried anything from this house yet. In maryland.

  • Emmuelle’s touchstone fragrances; Aromatics Elixir, Cinnabar and YSL Opium pour Homme are some heavy hitters and aspirational for any modern perfumer. The quality of the raw materials seems exceptional amd the interplay between aromatics, florals, spices and resins is a wonderful nod to vintage perfumes. The art deco bottle is gorgeous! MD, USA.

  • I have to admit that this is the first time I read something about the brand Galion, but I felt in love because of this review. I love that this one has raw materials and the fragrance experience it delivers with the spices, the bergamot and cypress.
I hope i get my nose on it soon.
    USA here.

I love how beautiful the bottle is. It creates a feel of luxury that many bottles lack. What intrigues me more is that it is similar to Guerlain and YSL, which are both fragrances I love and combining it with aromatics of green bergamot. I would love to try this masterpiece. I live in nyc, USA.

  • I like that Emmanuelle focused also on the bottle design as for me, the bottles are also important. There is a different feeling spraying from the bottle that the company designed rather than from a decant or sample. And Ferveur deserves a nice shelf display!
    I’m in the EU.

  • I like the description for this perfume and that is was created in order to be a sensual experience for both the wearer and those around the wearer.
Thank you for the giveaway and for the review!

  • Thank you Emmanuelle for a great review. I really enjoyed the ‘history lesson’you gave us as well as information about the bottle design. The most important is the juice though and let me tell you the notes look incredibly interesting. From Emmanuell’s description we can assume that the scent is probably quite intense. Unfortunately never have a chance to smell anything by Galion. Hope to change that soon. I live in Poland, EU.

Notes: green bergamot, clary sage, myrtle, cypress, iris, rose, coriander, cinnamon tree leaf, vanilla, styrax, Tolu balsam, patchouli, vetiver, incense and leather. A beautiful description by Emmanuel really fascinated by the notes especially Patchouli, rose, Incense and spices. I am familiar with this house my favourite is vetyver. Thanks a million

  • Notes: green bergamot, clary sage, myrtle, cypress, iris, rose, coriander, cinnamon tree leaf, vanilla, styrax, Tolu balsam, patchouli, vetiver, incense, leather.. I am in love with all the notes. This sounds like a magical concoction. I am familiar with this house. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

  • Nom de Guerre says:

Thank you, Emmanuelle – Habit Rouge mixed with Opium PH? Count me in! it would be interesting to see how cinnamon leaf differs from cinnamon, I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a fragrance with cinnamon leaf as one of the notes. Greetings from Riga, Latvia.

  • Le Galion Ferveur sounds like a classical study in balance, incorporating a range of bold notes without burying any of them. The cinnamon tree leaf note is particularly intriguing, especially in the context of a woody, leathery base. I also appreciate a fragrance that powers on through from the morning until late in the evening. Thanks for the review, Emmanuelle.

I’m in the midwest, USA. I haven’t tried any Le Galion fragrances.

  • Ferveur sounds absolutely stunning, timeless and of highest class. By Emmanuelle’s description, I get the feeling it is a warm fougere and the bottle and simplicity of the presentation are also marvelous.
I am not familiar with Le Galion.

  • wandering_nose says:

Thank you Emmanuelle! The context (a new, not yet officially launched perfume, one of your top 10 out of hundreds if not thousands; the appraised perfume bottle designer), the notes (could one ask for more wonderfulness in one bottle?…), the extremely evocative description and the mention of the outstanding longevity – all of that create an image of something so uniquely beautiful and compelling that there is no logical way of describing how the wearer feels while under the spell of the fragrance. It is delightful to even just think about Ferveur… What an unearthly pleasure it must be to experience it in flesh… I have been familiar with the house of Le Galion thanks to CaFleureBon, and I immensely enjoy seeing each and every mention of them here. Big thank you from the EU

  • I loved Emmanuelle’s description of Le Galion Fervour bringing her back to the 70s, and the memory of her parents perfumes. Also, both the ingredients and the notes list sound gorgeous! I am not familiar with Le Galion, so thanks to this review for introducing me to the brand.
    I’m in the US.

  • Regis Monkton says:

I’ve heard of Le Galion, but I haven’t tried anything from them yet. Emmanuelle’s review caused me to be interested in trying this fragrance, e.g. when she mentions: the raw materials, the good performance, and the description of the ingredients in regards to how each one is like during the wearing experience. I’m thinking that this fragrance might be vintage in style, but in a good way. I live in the U.S.A.

  • Great review, certainly piqued my interest, especially after reading about the opulence of the fragrance. Reading the description I imagine something between my favourite rich L’ame Perdue and fresher Bourasque.
I’m based in London, UK. Greetings!

  • foreverscents says:

I love the history of this brand. The art deco bottle of Ferveur is stunning. The well-blended notes, especially the bergamot, coriander and incense sound warm and reassuring. I have heard of the revival of Le Gallion and I look forward to trying their fragrances soon.
    I live in the USA.

  • katyakotovskaya says:

Bergamot, sage, coriander, cinnamon — it’s like my kitchen description… Just kidding! Loved the review and this fragrance seems really tangy with all the spice and woodiness. EU

  • wallygator88 says:

This was a fascinating writeup. It’s always cool to see perfume houses that are keeping the old traditions alive. Just looking at the notes, it reminds me of some of the old fragrances.

I love the art-deco bottle design.

I’m unfortunately not familiar with this house, only through CFB.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • sephrenia300 says:

Very nice review Emmanuelle! I really like how in Emmanuelle’s review she perfectly captures how fitting the name “Ferveur” is for the fragrance, with how she describes the opening as like “fireworks” and “thunderous”, with the play on traditional bright, chypre notes colliding with spicy, resinous warmth and intensity in a way that is strong and captivating with it’s contrast. It sounds like such a dynamic and enthralling perfume that I am very excited to try. I am not yet familiar with Le Galion but I will make a point to become familiar very soon. I live in the US.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Emmanuelle’s review of Le Galion Ferveur a beautiful, chic, and classy fragrance that evokes the 1930s. Legendary perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux paying homage to Paul Vacher, historical perfumer and owner of Le Galion perfumes. This sounds like a timeless Chypre that I would love to try. This is my frist time hearing about Le Galion. I am from the USA.
