Perfume Shopping in New York City 2023 from Leroy Neiman apped
Since our 2022 Guide to Perfume Shopping in New York City, there is much to update. Pandemic closings have nearly ceased (for now) and new fragrant locations are on the ascent. New York City and fragrant community was glad to welcome the return of Osswald and Trudon (formally Cire Trudon). A second Osswald boutique (uptown) is in the works I have been told.
The real takeaway to this year’s Perfume Shopping in New York City is the emergence of Brooklyn as a serious fragrant destination. Scent aficionados have had little reason to make the trek to Brooklyn after Twisted Lily closed their brick-and-mortar niche boutique. But what a difference a few years makes. Brooklyn, specifically, Williamsburg, has emerged as a full-fledged shopping destination and the new fragrance district. And why not. The population of Brooklyn is 2.577 million (2020) with the population of Manhattan being 1.629 million (2020) so it was only a matter of time before Brooklyn would step up their scent game.

D.S. and Durga were the first to recognize the neighborhood’s scented potential opening their uber-chic Williamsburg boutique in 2020 (Christopher Brosius of C.B. I Hate Perfume in 2004 was the first when it was a very different time and environment). Within the last year, they have been joined by Byredo, Le Labo, Diptyque, Glossier, Credo, Malin & Goetz, and Olfactory NYC to name a few. And with the recent opening of the Chanel and Hermès boutiques, only proves the point, that this is the new fragrance district. Word has it that Tom Ford and Gucci will soon set up shop.
So, get to the Union Square Subway (14th Street) and hop on the L train to Bedford Avenue (first stop in Brooklyn) and go forth and discover New York’s new perfume shopping district!
