BDK Parfums 312 Saint-Honoré Review (Alexandra Carlin) 2024 + Parisian Chic Giveaway.

BDK Parfums 312 Saint-Honoré

Rue Saint-Honoré has always been a street synonymous with luxury, a home for fashion and perfume in Paris. In 1959, BDK Parfums founder, David Benedek’s, grandparents opened a perfume boutique on the corner of Rue Royale and Rue Saint-Honoré, expanding their already successful perfumery business, bringing together the likes of Jean Patou, Dior and Worth diffusing them through Paris and further a field. It was here he through his grandparents and father he found his love for fragrance. Bouquet de Hongrie is a tribute to his grandmother; she was Romanian but spoke Hungarian and was really the one who taught him the culture of perfume.

I can sense the deep appreciation for classic perfumery in many of the BDK Parfums I’ve had the pleasure of smelling. Let’s take Rouge Smoking as an example. It beautifully combines elements reminiscent of classic Guerlain fragrances, like the delightful powdery, more happy heliotrope from Après L’Ondée and the creamy vanilla amber from Shalimar, without the citrus notes, all done with a modern twist. Perfumer Alexandra Carlin truly captures the essence of classic perfumery in 312 Saint-Honoré, bringing it into the present day. Not only that, but she also takes us on a fragrant journey to BDK Parfums’ new boutique, located just a stone’s throw away from David Benedek’s grandparents’ own perfumery. It’s a wonderful continuation of the tradition of introducing new perfumes to Paris and all the travellers who visit the city.

A spray or three invites you into the world of BDK Parfums 312 Saint-Honoré, as a burst of vibrant pink peppers and intense ambers dances like dazzling lights catching your eye through crystal-clear glass. As you open the door to this perfumery, a familiar aroma of woody ambers flows out and envelops you in a rush of excitement, drawing you deeper into its inner chamber. If you’ve had the pleasure of visiting the new store at 312 Rue Saint-Honoré or seen photos of its elegant minimalist interior, you get a sense of its expanse, smoothness and the textures of its design from the perfume created by Alexandra Carlin, her third for BDK Parfums. The materials here are cleverly chosen to replicate the feel of the building, the polished concrete, smooth stone walls and sleek woods; a minimal elegance and as the perfume evolves these elements are revealed.

After its initial intense opening, 312 Saint-Honoré starts feeling airy, becoming a more sleek, minimalist perfume, while still carrying a vertical thrust of woody ambers, drawing your eyes up to the selves where the bottles are held. It has a sense of spaciousness as a delicate floral feel takes hold with peppery spices lending a musky earthy greenness enchanting your senses. Sparkling pink pepper notes continue to shimmer, like small lights glistening off the flacons on shelves. As the scent unfolds it begins to weaves its carnal magic. I always feel overwhelmed with choice when perfume shopping and this is reflected with an intense moment or two as ambroxan and woody ambers intensify, before a warm and inviting orange blossom blooms, unfurling and embracing you, as if you have found the one you’re looking for. Its enhanced with a creamy smooth abstract combination of powdery iris and tonka bean, here in a more molecular form, creating a cool texture that evokes the mineralic feel of stone, while picking out other material textures in the process. Its smooth, yet delicately powdery, conjuring these texture in a clever way, while angelicas musky and slightly nutty facets, enhance it further, infusing a soft sensuality into the next phase of 312 Saint-Honoré.

That nod to traditional French perfumery is revealed here as BDK Parfums 312 Saint-Honoré gives us classic orange blossom perfume done in a contemporary way, with what is to me a molecular take the deliciously carnal animalis base, giving it cosy abstract purring rich warmth of furs, with Thai oud and orange blossom enhancing its luxurious richness further covering you in soft white florals. The Thai oud lends a soft, skin-like quality; it’s like a Chonburi style oud, those with a creamy sandalwood-like essence and sour tropical fruitiness, with aged blonde woods. 312 Saint-Honoré evokes a sense of opulent warmth, draped in these furs with iris giving a powdery soft, musky allure. Envision the sensation of being enveloped in velvety, never-ending furs, while the gentle murmurs of delicate flesh create an irresistible allure that commands the attention of all those around you, in that nonchalant cool Parisian way. 312 Saint-Honoré feels quiet soft and intimate to wear; yet there’s some powerful woody ambers at work luring people closer. The velvety woody ambers, along with Ambroxan, also provide a subtle mineralic shimmer, reflecting the stone and flooring of the perfumery.

I used to haunt Rue Saint-Honoré, visiting Colette when it was still open, hoping some of the cool would rub off on me. 312 Saint-Honoré exudes a quintessentially Parisian charm I experienced living in Paris, blending bold confidence with a hint of seductive sensuality. It effortlessly commands attention with its understated elegance, while perfectly encapsulating the essence of the boutique through its meticulously curated materials. Alexandra Carlin’s masterful touch seamlessly weaves a captivating fragrance, creating a truly stunning wearable work of art.

Notes: Pink peppercorn extract from Brazil, Pink peppercorn leaf, Angelica roots from France, Orange blossom, Tonka bean, Iris, Ambroxan, Ambery musk, Oud wood from Thailand.

Okay I live for this eu legacy brand. I love their creations and would be honored to have this beauty. Im from eu

  • What I enjoy about J’s review is his comparisons of current offerings from BDK to other fragrances (like his take on rouge smoking as it compares to Guerlain) to help me paint a picture in my mind

Currently I live in Fremont CA in the USA and the climate around the Bay Area allows me to enjoy some of my favorites from sel D’argent to the beautiful pas ce soir extrait. Oh lord PCS EX is so damn good! I hope to experience this fragrance as well because the breakdown sounds right up my alley

  • J describes the perfume as a tribute to Paris and its iconic street, Saint-Honoré, where many luxury brands and historical monuments are located. I find this concept very appealing and intriguing, as it evokes a sense of elegance, sophistication, and culture. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I never tried BDK but my favorite would be Saint-Honoré for sure, it’s so sophisticated.

Reading about Rue Saint-Honoré and its rich history with BDK Parfums got me all nostalgic for Paris! It’s incredible how David Benedek’s family heritage and love for fragrance shaped his journey, especially with Bouquet de Hongrie paying homage to his grandmother’s cultural influence. And don’t even get me started on the enchanting description of BDK Parfums 312 Saint-Honoré – it’s like being transported to their boutique with every spritz. The way Alexandra Carlin crafts the scent to mirror the elegance and textures of the store’s interior is just genius. From the vibrant pink peppers to the warm embrace of orange blossom and oud, it’s a sensory journey I’d love to experience. Plus, J’s review captures the essence of Parisian charm and the allure of BDK Parfums perfectly. Thanks for sharing this olfactory adventure!

  • Oh how I hope I can visit the BDK boutique one day. The pics I have seen look gorgeous, and I imagine browsing it’s uniquely tiered shelves would feel amazing. Like J stated about the scent of 312 Saint-Honore itself, perusing the boutique would offer a sense of Parisian confidence and sensuality. I love that this scent uses classic yet relatively understated notes. J mentioned it being done in a molecular fashion, which is an opinion I have heard shared by several others as well. That excites me because of the way such scents envelop you in a shroud of fragrance. I’m sure the iris and musks here add to such an effect, wrapping you in a velevty blanket. It sounds like a wonderful new offering and I cannot wait to try it. So far my favorite from the house is Velvet Tonka, with Rouge Smoking a close second. I wonder if this might join them at the top? Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

I’m in the United States Michigan and don’t own any BDK perfumes but they sound lovely. Reading the review made me want to visit Paris again!

  • jlsteckley says:

What a great story! I love when brands name things after things that are meaningful to them. Located in the USA.

  • I’ll start by saying that my favourite BDK is Rouge Smoking – absolutely love it. And I’ll end by saying that what sparked my interest and draws me to this fragrance based on J’s review is the nod to traditional French perfumery mixed with the clean and modern twist of the notes of iris and tonka. I can’t imagine what it smells like so I guess I’ll have to own the bottle to see!

  • Oh I have been wanting to try this!!! I have never tried any of BDK’s fragrances, only vicariously through reviews. This softness and balanced tones of florals and woods really does appeal to me. Thank you for this generous draw! I live in NH, USA.

  • Sounds like an absolutely lovely fragrance. What sparked my interest the most was the nod to classic perfumery, as well as the white floral essence done in a modern way and blended with elegant iris, woody and ambery notes. My instinct tells me this is a truly “perfumey” perfume, one that really doesn’t try to pass as a simplistic or a natural scent, yet executed in a classy and transparent way.

  • (Colorado, USA) I am intrigued by this fragrance, due to the “minimalist” feel yet with orange blossom, and woody amber?! It sounds chic and also inspires me to visit (someday) the boutique it’s named after. I am already a fan of BDK – Gris Charnel and Rouge Smoking being two of my absolute favorites!

  • phuongmtran says:

BDK Parfums is one of my top fragrance brands. The only full bottle I have (and is my favorite) is Gris Charnel. I would love to add another full bottle to my collection. I appreciate reading about the backstory behind the fragrance, and would love to visit the new space one day.
    With love from CA, USA

Really liked the description of the notes and how they parallel the ambiance of the store. It sounds very elegant, chic and inviting at the same time. The general air seems not dissimilar from some other scents from this line, namely Gris Charnel and Creme de Cuir.

I live in the US, and would love to enter the draw.

  • Ramses Perez says:

I have not had the chance to visit the store yet but I have seen pictures and can only describe it as pure and angelic. I have seen other reviews of this fragrance as well and everyone pretty much agrees that even though it’s not a beast fragrance like Gris Charnel Extrait, this is very pleasant, intimate and alluring. I expected that since it’s based on the minimalistic and succinct structure of the store. My favorite BDK to this day still has to be Velvet Tonka but should I win this one, I can see it becoming one of my top 3 faves. The bottle and liquid also give it away and this is a more airy and minimalistic scent profile, Cheers from USA.

  • Unfortunately I haven’t tried anything from BdK but J’s review of BDK Parfums’ 312 Saint-Honoré beautifully captures the essence of Parisian luxury and sophistication. His meticulous attention to detail in describing the fragrance’s evolution from its vibrant opening to its sensual dry down evokes a sense of being transported to the iconic Rue Saint-Honoré. J’s personal connection to the city and the perfume’s seamless blend of classic and contemporary elements make this review a captivating exploration of olfactory artistry and Parisian allure.

  • The Iris and Tonka bean notes are calling my name. I like that 312 Saint-Honoré is a tribute to David’s grandmother. My favorite from BDK is Rouge Smoking. Thanks for another wonderful review and draw. Michigan USA

  • chamberoflilith says:

I was not aware that David Benedek’s grandmother was Romanian. This makes me more interested in this perfume, but what I am reading in J’s review stands on its own. What attracts me most is the synergy between inspiration source and minimalism. I like it when perfumers create a scent inspired by a place. But not a place that exists on its own, in nature, but a place created by humans. Thus, the perfume becomes an ode to people as much as it is an homage to the space they have created. Minimalist perfumes, to me, are heavy duty friends. They are often the ones I reach for daily. Woods, ambergris and oud are already favorites, and the wearability J’s description suggests is something I am always looking out for. Though I tend to fall in love with complicated scents, their counterparts hold as much space in my heart. I love the paradox. And I’m from Romania.

  • Powdery iris and tonka bean in a molecular form seems very peculiar: can’t wait to try this one.

  • Jason6223 says:

Hi there, the reason I actually checked out this review was because I was recently in Paris and was walked down Rue Saint-Honore. After this review I became interested in the fragrance, though, because of the minimalist nature of this scent. I love to wear fragrances 24/7 but realise it can overwhelm others sometimes. This seems to be a perfect blend of artistry and humbleness to be ideal for when you are around many others. Also, I am in the UK

  • Patricia R. says:

This description piques my interest due to mentions of musky and slightly nutty angelicas, orange blossoms combined with abstract furs, oud and blonde woods. I haven’t tried it but it screams a modern take on elegance. I think this might envelop in stages and is a classical structure with a new twist. I live in the EU.

  • I want to smell like Paris! Seriously, this sounds like it could almost take me back in my mind and imagination. And I love Alexandra Carlin’s work for Amouage so would like to try this. USA

There are many things that intrigued me about J’s article. The most impactful was the legacy of David’s family in the world of perfumery. A nod to his roots and the joy in his face on the picture, staring with pride at the logo. What a grand accomplishment! J goes into tremendous depth and I love fragrances that flirt floral, but have animalic tendencies. The scent sounds spectacular and is a continuation of a dynamic portfolio. I currently enjoy Tabac Rose from the brand.
    I live in Brooklyn, NY

  • Having a cologne that commands attention is something I would love to have in my collection. The notes in this cologne sound absolutely amazing and would love to experience Paris in a bottle!

312 Saint-Honoré sounds like another fantastic addition to the BDK line. I have been a longtime lover of Gris Charnel and have gotten my nose on the majority of the BDK line and they all bring something special to the table.

  • That BDK Parfums boutique is beautiful—the tall walls of product shelving is a striking retail layout. I like how Carlin interpreted the space via perfume, focusing on sleek woody ambers, the cool gray texture of iris and tonka, and a range of notes drawn from classic perfumery. The combination seems warm, but a remove, and subtly referential.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any BDK Parfums fragrances.

I like how J likens Rouge Smoking to Guerlain’s classics. The resemblance wouldn’t have occurred to me unprompted, however now I can see it and since Guerlain is one of my favorite perfume houses, I can see why I got so captivated by R.S. There are so many things I would like to touch upon here… I’ve always felt some sort of inspiring jealousy of David Benedek’s amazing family history of perfume and perfumery. I admire the brand’s unforgiving dedication to using natural materials of the highest quality and the way they honor the classic perfumery, adding their own modern twist along the way. I’ve been drawn to BDK creations in some hard to explain way. When I had the opportunity to smell them, I understood why. To me, they were like a perfect set of signature scents for a sophisticated individual. 312 Saint Honore seems polished yet abundant with softness and creaminess. I have developed huge liking for perfumes that draw the wearer in, caressing their soul. The velvety woody ambers with some “powdery soft, musky allure” – this sounds like perfection. Cannot wait to put my nose on 312 Saint Honore or better yet, to own and enjoy it. My favorite BDK Parfums creations would be Rouge Smoking, Gris Charnel Extrait and Villa Neroli. Thank you from the EU

I like a lot the photo of the shop’s interior, and if the perfumer managed to infuse it in the fragrance, hat’s off.

What sparked my interest based on J’s review of BDK Parfums 312 Saint-Honore is how this a beautiful and subtle soft sort of skin scent scent that sounds different than the typical fragrances BDK Parfums is known for. • I was hoping for some good times checking out perfume stores when I was in transit through Paris but a series of misfortunes had me touring for only an hour on a late Sunday evening when most businesses were closed. BDK Parfums 312 Saint-Honoré sounds like it would provide some of that missed pleasure 🙂 I’m in TX USA and much obliged for the opportunity to try it out.

I adore BDK! I picked up a couple bottles on a trip to Paris based on recommendations by Demi Rawling for Pas Ce Soir and Bouquet De Hongrie. Pas Ce Soir has been favorite so far, but I would love to add this to my collection! I’ve been drawn to more woody, amber fragrances lately and have been trying to find a good fragrance for the spring that has this scent profile. I love that it has orange blossom to lighten it up and think it would work well all year round.

BDK Parfums sounds like such a chic perfume house. I haven’t tried anything from this house, but 312 Saint-Honoré must be the perfect introduction, as it replicates the new boutique. I remember visiting the Colette boutique on this street–it was so elegant. The animalic notes of 312 Saint Honorė sound like something I’d enjoy wearing.

I wonder if the use of two peppercorns leaves this composition silky smooth like in spice bomb. The use of orange blossom and oil screams luxury and class. I have no experience with BDK Perfumes but I expect a lot from what I’ve read. Very curious about the longevity and the sillage. Hoping to win from Jacksonville, NC.

  • BDK is another house I’ve yet had a chance to explore fully. I have some experience with a few fragrances from them like Rouge Smoking and Citrus Riviera which have been on my hit list for awhile. I love how when experiencing the fragrance J was able to tie in exploring the BDK store. Hearing about the notes I was able to think about walking around and seeing things myself in the new location. Note wise though Thai oud and orange blossom was a combo that I had never thought about and I am eager to get my nose on it. The whole review just screams luxury and I am here for it

    I live in Dallas, TX

Thanks for the review J Wearescentient.

It seems like this fragrance is a true embodiment of Parisian chic.

It’s nice to see the fragrance open burst of freshness, courtesy of its citrusy top notes. But I think what really sets this fragrance apart are the subtle yet captivating heart notes of jasmine and violet, which add a touch of floral elegance without overwhelming the senses. The warm and woody base notes of patchouli and vetiver emerge, wrap you in a comforting embrace that lingers throughout the day.

It’s sophisticated, it’s timeless, and it’s effortlessly stylish – just like the streets of Paris itself.

i would love to get my nose on this.
