Vilhelm Parfumerie Opus Kore Review (Jerome Epinette) + Technicolor Spring Draw

Vilhelm Parfumerie OPUS KORE review

As I am typing this review, it is -7 degrees Celsius/19 degrees Fahrenheit outside.  Winter has settled in. Snow is in the forecast (again). This reminds me of one of the things I love about living in the Washington, DC area – that there are four distinct seasons, and the next one is never too far away.  Looking outside, it is a mosaic of frozen, stoic hues of white, gray, brown and black. The trees are barren and asleep. Even the birds are still, quiet, waiting.  But they know that spring is not too far away, and when it arrives here, it arrives with a stupendous blast of life in technicolor.

Swedish-born Creative Director Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren of Vilhelm Parfumerie has encapsulated that gush of exuberant life in a bottle and called it Opus Kore.  As personified by his brand, he embodies an artfully articulated story in each bottle.  His brand is a whole mood, an entire aesthetic of richly crafted, superbly detailed artwork, images and bottles, which are at once vintage and nostalgic and also sleekly modern and elegant (Check out his Instagram – it *oozes* style!). I love his use of the color yellow, a clear bright ray of sunshine that is always chic.  For Opus Kore, Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren writes: “At the end of winter, you can read the spring on the face of people: the joy of the first day of a new season, and in nature, that early blossoming.”

Best Spring Perfumes

Vilhelm Parfumerie Opus Kore is that story of the anticipation and arrival of spring, composed by Master Perfumer Jerome Epinette.  And “compose” is an apt word here. It is as if Mr. Epinette is a master conductor of a grand orchestra, standing very intensely still in front, with his baton poised still in the air. The music hall is utterly silent. Then, in one instant, he furiously moves his baton high and swiftly into the air, and a tidal wave of beautiful music fills the air and our ears.  Cleverly, in Opus Kore, Mr. Epinette’s orchestra uses scent instead of sound – he has composed a most glorious song for us to enjoy with our noses.

This orchestral burst of life is in the first spray of Opus Kore, an Ode to Spring. There is the joyous rush of vivid color – pinks, yellow, greens, all backed by a clear, cloudless (and finally warm!) blue sky. The air is fresh, and the sun is so bright! Life is everywhere – insects and birds flying in the air – bunnies and squirrels frolicking in the newly leafed world.  Flowers are popping up from the ground, out of bushes and trees – tender, so happy to be alive, showing off their lively, flamboyant colors and scents to the world.

Opus Kore bursts with delicately sweet, sparkling florals and mouthwatering fruits. The combination of Sicilian Lemon, Raspberry and Acai is juicy, alive, delicious!  It gives me the impression of a watery, ripe, pink watermelon, ready to eat.  Violet and Pink Magnolia play with the fruits, to where you feel the joy these flowers must feel, to finally be able to open and stretch out into the sunlight – new, fresh, happy, optimistic. The magnolia for me is the star of this performance – it’s buttery, lemony and lush, like its creamy, velvety petals, and is weighted perfectly by the base notes of sandalwood, musk and amber, which help it to be also rather flirty and alluring – it turns into a very enticing skin scent after some hours, that I get wafts of, like a night-blooming flowers’ softly scented air.

There is a luminous prettiness to this beautiful fragrance – it is translucent, not heavy, but gregarious and charming. It exudes joy, in Vilhelm Parfumerie’s uniquely stylish way. The thrill and beauty of spring is here! Well, not for a few months yet in my area, but it is high spring in this sparkling bottle of Opus Kore.

Notes:  Sicilian Lemon, Acai, Raspberry, Magnolia, Violet, Sandalwood, Skin Musks, Amber

Thanks to Euro Perfumes for my elegant bottle of Opus Kore, the opinions are my own.

  • A sparkling, lemony, musky floral sounds like the perfect way to start the spring or pretend while we’re in the throws of winter. Thank you for the review and its enticing imagery. I have not yet smelled anything by Vilhelm.

  • I am so ready to admire my spring garden flowers. The lemon and raspberry notes in Opus Kore sound delicious. One of my favs from Vilhelm Parfumerie is Smoke Show. Thanks for the wonderful pictures and article. Mich USA

  • Cynthia, I live close to DC as well and I’m about done with the snow. Hopefully, the rest of the winter will be easier on us. Opus Kore sounds like an (olfactory) explosion of spring. The floral and fruit notes seem do bright and fun! I always enjoy seeing magnolia in a composition. It sounds like it’s used well here. My favorite Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrance is Dear Polly. MD, USA.

  • Vilhelm Parfumerie Opus makes me want Spring to arrive soon. Such a beautiful Fragrance house. The notes are perfect lemon, florals, fruit. Cynthia’s review took me from a cold Winter’s day to a beautiful sunny Spring afternoon. Thank you for this Chance. USA

  • I also love being back where we have four real seasons but sometimes I miss the “winters” in the Middle East, especially when the wind chill brings temps way below zero! I love the photos of spring and the scent truly seems to match that fresh new liveliness. Beautiful review!

  • Samantha Bouquin says:

I am really interested in this house. Poets of Berlin is the first one that caught my interest. This one also sounds intriguing. Yellow is my favorite color, so I appreciate pointing out Vilhelm’s use of the sunshine color. I love your description of this perfume. A burst of Spring in a bottle. The accompanying photos help paint a scent I need to get my nose on. It sounds lovely.

Thanks for the opportunity to enter the giveaway!

  • Spring! I love winter, but part of it is the anticipation of spring and flowers and the yellow of daffodils and sunshine. These photos made me smile.
Poets of Berlin is a favorite from Vilhelm. Thanks for the review and draw. USA

  • Yep it’s so cold here in connecticut that I am bundled up in four sweatshirts. Cynthia really is such a great writer I can really feel like it’s spring from reading her review of Opus Kore.
I have Dear Polly and Purple Fig so I am am fan of Vilhelm

Thank you for the Cynthia! I’m in the US and would love to be considered for the draw. It’s one of the lovely things about DC- you have a good balance of seasons. I’m in NYC and its 16 F right now, and I’m waiting for May when the weather will feel uplifting again. I can’t wait for spring, and I love the description of this fragrance as optimistic. Could definitely use some of that right now 😛

  • Opus Kore sounds divine! I love how Cynthia’s review appeals to other senses (sight/hearing/taste/feel) to describe this olfactory experience. I can see the motion of the conductor’s baton, hear the orchestra, and taste the ripe watermelon. But my favorite sensation created by this review is feeling like a flower stretching in the sunlight. It is a cold dreary day in Atlanta, and I want to feel like this flower! I am a fan of Vilhelm’s Morning Chess and Fleur Burlesque and can’t wait to try some of the others.

Sophisticated fragrance ,green , bright and bubbly , with rich woodsy base. Opus Kore screams relax , and Spring.
I’m in tailoring business, and I would gladly wear it with a suit , while working with clients at the shop.
Yes i have not only tried, but later bought Vilhelm Parfumerie Morning Chess. The reason was Sebastian Jara review for Cafleurebon.
I like cold weather, so No , I’m not waiting for the Spring , it’s way too early.
    Thank you Cynthia, and Europerfumes

  • Vilhelm Parfumerie Opus Kore seems to be a lovely spring perfume, and I love magnolia scent, which is the star of Vilhelm Parfumerie Opus Kore, according to Cynthia. Of course, notes such as sandalwood, musks, amber, violet will make Vilhelm Parfumerie Opus Kore even more delightful. Unfortunately I haven’t tried anything by Vilhelm Parfumerie, yet, so no favorites. Waiting for spring, but also enjoying the quiet of winter. Thanks for the review and draw. I’m from the USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

This is the review I needed today as temps are in the teens. The images and descriptions of spring reminded me that this cold won’t last forever. This fragrance sounds so fun and happy. Thanks for the draw. In the US.

  • I, too, live near DC and have been experiencing this burst of winter. And I do enjoy the season. But I love when spring has sprung and new life takes to nature. The scent sounds tantalizing and inviting. I can’t wait to smell it. In maryland.

  • Cynthia!!❤️❤️ What a beautiful review!!! One can see the quickening of spring in your words! ❤️ I’m quite curious about the Acai and Magnolia in this fragrance. The “translucent, not heavy” scent sounds just perfect for early spring! A precious box of Vilhelm Parfumerie samples sits waiting in my closet… you’ve just enticed me to get them out this weekend! Perhaps I’ll come back & be able to update everyone with an initial front runner. With this morning’s wind chill at -17 degrees, I am looking forward to spring! ❤️ Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! USA

  • I really enjoyed Cythia’s review of Opus Kore because spring, for me, is my favorite season of the year. The mix of the flowers and fruits in this fragrance makes me really curious and wanting to try this beautiful perfume. My favorite Vilhem Perfumerie fragrance is Room Service, tried twice and got me hooked to it.
I hope I win this fragrance as I am eager for spring and hopefully this fragrance.
    I live in the U.S.

  • Oh, this sounds wonderful! It’s freezing cold and gray and depressing here in NYC, so a scent that evokes all the colors and music of spring sounds so wonderful right now. I’m a big fan of Vilhelm’s Mango Skin, and this sounds similarly fresh and fruity and spring-like. I’m in NYC, USA.

  • I’m well familiar with Vilhelm Parfumerie. I know most , with the exception of 3 – Skin X , Chicago High , and the just recently released London Funk.
I agree with Cynthia about Opus Kore , the fragrance is juicy, slightly sweet, and tart . It gets more musky and woody in the base , mouthwatering indeed.
Guys get some samples, and try Vilhelm Parfumerie, they have quite a few gems , one of the most underrated niche brands in my opinion.
    Poets of Berlin i love
All profiles I already follow .
    Thanks a lot

    “An Ode to Spring”

As I was reading Cynthia’s review I could almost smell the delicate sparkling florals rising up from a beautiful garden, it’s aromatic fragrance dancing and twirling as it rises up filling my nostrils while the delectable juicy fruits make my mouth water.

I don’t own anything from this house but I have smelled several at Neiman Marcus, of the ones I smelled Purple Fig, Mango Skin and do not disturb stuck out to me.

Can’t wait for the crisp spring air when things just feel ALIVE.

  • Bryant Worley says:

After reading Cynthia’s review, I am TOTALLY anticipating this fragrance. She really opened this up so that you can already feel the fragrance coming off your skin (” This orchestral burst of life is in the first spray of Opus Kore, an Ode to Spring. There is the joyous rush of vivid color – pinks, yellow, greens, all backed by a clear, cloudless (and finally warm!) blue sky. The air is fresh, and the sun is so bright! Life is everywhere – insects and birds flying in the air – bunnies and squirrels frolicking in the newly leafed world.”)

I am hoping that once I open the bottle Beethoven’s 9th Symphony “Ode to Joy” starts sounding off.

I’ve only tried Morning Chess, so that’s the favorite by default.

I am a Winter person, with Spring being tied for 2nd/3rd behind Autumn.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • Cynthia Hunter take on Opus Korewas so laid back, I imagined being in a hotel room in Paris, and right after my usual 15 minutes hot-cold-hot shower, eating Raspberry and Acai cake on the terrace , while having a bowl of flowers right next to me.
I do know one Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrance called Mango Skin, just a sample but still. Love the smell, and taste of mango. It’s one of the best ripe mango fragrances on the market. It also smells quite natural .
Spring …. I’m not ready for the Spring yet, I enjoy my Winter breath each, and every morning
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • After having read from Cynthia’s review, I want to try this fragrance for different reasons, e.g. I’d like to see what magnolia and acai are like in fragrances, and I’d like to see if it makes me think of springtime. I’m very much looking forward to springtime because I sowed many flower seeds in early Jan. and I’m looking forward to enjoying those flowers. I haven’t tried anything yet from Vilhelm Parfumerie, but I’d like to try their collected works. I live in the U.S.A. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  • Vilhelm Parfumerie unfortunately i do not know , but Opus Kore perfumer I’m familiar with . Jerome Epinette is well known for his fresh, really pleasing , and authentic smelling scents.
Fruity-floral happy fragrances are awesome for the upcoming Spring season, I’m getting tired of the cold weather lately.
Opus Kore sounds cheerful and bright , right what I need at the moment.
Please review more Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrances, I’d love to know more, especially Chicago High and Mango Skin.
    Thanks for the draw

What I enjoyed about Cynthia’s review of Vilhelm Parfumerie Opus Kore is learning about master perfumer Jerome Epinette the nose behind the fragrance and discovering the magnificent fruity and floral goodness of this beautiful fragrance which is inspired by the anticipation of the spring season. My favorite Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrance is Morning Chess. I am definitely awaiting spring’s arrival, but in the meantime I am enjoying my cozy and comforting cold weather fragrances. I am from the USA.

  • I think the florals and fruits create a desirable sweet floral fragrance with the musk, sandalwood and amber for longevity purposes. One note that I took notice of was Acai, when Cynthia introduced this i was somewhat taken back as this note is not as popular as traditional fruits.

  • Everyone needs a place to retreat, and clear up their minds. Cynthia Hunter review brought The New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, having a walk during spring. It was ~10 years ago , good memories
Quality florals like Opus Kore i like a lot. The base of sandalwood, amber and musk is quite alluring.
I have no experience with Vilhelm Parfumerie.
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Fragrances in the same ballpark as Opus Kore i really appreciate. Woody musky scents done the right way , with juicy fruityness just work in those days i want to be alone, having a walk in the park, of my favorite way to relax, drinking Tea on the porch .
I’ve sampled Dear Polly and Morning Chess , both are really nice , I slightly prefer Morning Chess.
I may surprise you, I like Spring, but I prefer Winter . I’d like to enjoy my loud incense, resins, patchouli and gourmand fragrances , for at least 3 more months.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

Thank you for the great review, Cynthia.

I love how evocative of spring your review was. We had a ton of snow dumped on us in the last 24 hours and it was fantastic to read a review and see images that were was an explosion of colors, different florals. I could almost hear birds again!

I unfortuantely have not smelt anything from this house before

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Cynthia’s description of the notes/accords belonging to this fragrance were impeccably presented…almost to the point that I could almost smell this fragrance through my computer screen. Thank you 🙂

Lovely review Cynthia! What I enjoyed about Cynthia’s review the most was how she compared this scent to an orchestral masterpiece, with the perfumer Mr. Epinette as the master conductor, going from silence to perfectly synchronized bursts of vivid and joyful scents of spring, from bright florals to juicy tropical fruits. It is such a beautiful metaphor and perfectly encapsulates the feeling I want from a fresh, bright spring floral scent. My favorite Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrance so far is Dear Polly but I look forward to trying many I haven’t gotten the chance to as of yet. And yes, I am so very anxiously awaiting the warmth of spring! I live in the US.
