Best Valentine's Day Rose Perfumes 2024

Valentine’s Day Rose Perfumes 2024 image by Steven

Roses have been used in perfumery for thousands of years and is the flower most associated with romance and seduction.

Cleopatra and Antony

Antony and Cleopatra. Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. 1883 Pixels

Cleopatra famously carpeted her boudoir with rose petals while entertaining Marc Antony, so he would always think of the Egyptian Queen anytime, anywhere he smelled a rose. There is a rose fragrance for everyone…vintage, gourmand, photorealistic, soliflore, fruity, modern, spicy, sophisticated, jammy, oudy, chypre, and downright dirty. In honor of Valentine’s Day, Steven and Michelyn chose the rose perfumes that are closest to our hearts. Here are Steven’s and Michelyn’s co-curated choices for three of the best Valentine’s Day Rose Perfumes 2024 you should be wearing. -Michelyn Camen. Editor-in-Chief

Amouage Lyric for Men (Daniel Visentin): Lyric opens with a refreshing lime note that eventually evolves into the heart of gentle rose and quirky angelica. The galbanum resin contributes to the verdant tones while a medley of spices, which include ginger, saffron, and nutmeg, create the mystery. The base of vanilla and sandalwood is rich and inviting, and the frankincense adds to the meditative charm. With Lyric for Men being a favorite of the late Carlos Powell, The Brooklyn Fragrance Lover, it was included in our Valentine’s Day Rose Perfumes 2024 in memory of the three-year anniversary of his passing. –Steven

Notes: Bergamot, lime, rose, angelica, orange blossom, green galbanum, spicy ginger, nutmeg, saffron, pine, sandalwood, vanilla, musk, and frankincense

Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait (Neela Vermeire and Bertrand Duchaufour): For those who know me, I am not a rose perfume fan. I don’t really love the flower itself. I owned Guerlain Nahema (1979) with its peachy voluptuous sensuality. Then it was gone.

There are echoes of Nahema in Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait, not in its composition but in its brilliance. Look past the obvious inspiration of melding East and Western sensibilities; its greatness and absolute perfection stands on its own. The true Queen of Flowers is crowned in spice, then bathed in benzoin and rich amber.  Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait is the voice of someone I loved and the plaintiff echoes of a melody that I can’t get out of my head. Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait is similar to Neela’s original Mohur, but deeper, richer and absolutely unforgettable. I don’t think of it as rose perfume, but as a religious experience. If you are like me and shy away when you read that a fragrance has notes of rose and oud…. Mohur Extrait will change your mind. It is truly one of the Valentine’s Day Rose Perfumes you must sample in 2024. –Michelyn

Notes: cardamom, coriander, ambrette, carrot, black pepper, elemi, Turkish rose oiljasmine, hawthorn, almond milk accord, leathersandalwood, amber, patchouli, Oudh Palao from Laos, benzoin, vanilla, and tonka bean

Ormonde Jayne Ta’if (Geza Schoen): One of the first niche rose perfumes I bought was Ta’if composed Geza Schoen for Ormonde Jayne. It was released in 2004 and only available at the shop in London. Creative Director and founder Linda Pilkington kindly sent me a sample for an article I was writing at the time, and from first sniff I was and still am smitten; it has always been one of my favorite rose perfumes. Tumultuous and temperamental, with an edgy combination of spicy saffron and sweet dates afloat an orange blossom scented sea. If you want to blend in at a party, this is not the perfume to wear…it is audacious, opulent and sweeps into a room like the star it is. –Michelyn

Notes: pink pepper, saffron, dates, taif rose, patchouli, tree moss, oud, vanilla rose accord, freesia, orange flower absolute and jasmine, Ugandan vanilla absolute, broom and amber

I am very interested in Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait. It sounds divine! Both the reviews were very timely as I am currently looking for a rose fragrance. I live in New Orleans LA.

  • Steve’s video was very insightful and entertaining. But I think Michelyn’s review of Ormond Jayne Taif has really piqued my curiosity. It sounds like an absolute perfect and unique mix of spice and floral. And I would definitely love to try it. 🙂

  • Ramses Perez says:

I’d love to win the Ormonde Jayne bottle. I was not familiar with this one or the Neela Vermeire one. The ta’if rose it’s one of the better roses I’ve smelled in fragrances so to make a whole fragrance around this note does give an opulent/luxurious flair. I love edgy and opulent fragrances so this one sounds like a perfect match to me. I’m not a fan of rose but if it’s good enough for Michelyn, it’s good enough for me. Cheers from USA.

  • Thank you for the great reviews of those wonderful rose scents. I am really interested in Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait as a romantic and seductive scent. Bertrand Duchaufour is a brilliant perfumer and this creation will be a deep, rich and unforgettable experience. I like how Steven described the perfume as mysterious and charismatic. I would be glad to win it. I wish you all happy Valentine’s day! 🙂 From EU.

  • I’m a fan of rose so to me this was narurally very interesting! I currently wear Naheema (the new version) & I have a sample from vintage one too, so this to me is intriguing to try these perfumes! Cool reviews!
    I’m located in Europe, Finland

  • Shareef Nunnally says:

First & foremost I miss Carlos. I didn’t know him personally, but I was researching a fragrance and came across his channel. One I continue to go back to. Im a masculine man that love floral fragrances, yet I have none with rose and always wanted to try & own.

  • Maria Malaveci says:

Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait Is what I’d pick! I also have never really loved the smell of roses but you had me when you said it was a religious experience! I hope that I’m registered properly and a little information that stood out. Cleopatra was Greek, not Egyptian. I’m in USA!

  • I love rose cents and I love and own Amouage Lyric man by master parfumeur Daniel Visentin. Lyric is a fresh edible jammy rose, aromatic, woody, aldehydic, musky, warm and spicy with Incense, Patchouli, Cedar, Vetiver, Amber, and Labdanum as basenotes. It smells luxurious, elegant, and blended to perfection, one of the best Amouage fragrances, different, modern, aristocratic, timeless. I would love to have the Neela Vermeire as Lyric and Ormonde Jayn are not for EU readers.

  • Wow, I love that both Stephen and Michelyn gave tribute to Carlos. One of the greats can’t believe it’s been 3 years already. I’m also picky about Rose notes like Michelyn, but I’ve smelled the regular Mohur and it’s gorgeous. A richer version indeed sounds like a religious experience I must have I’m in Brooklyn, NY

  • Ormond Jayne Taif has the smell combo of mY dreams, datesrose, oud, vanilla rose. This is my choice. Also i really want to try this house. I felt every Word and note michelyn wrote. Steven wearing the red suit SLAYED the fun video. Im from eu.

  • I have a sample of Ormande Jayne Ta’if and it is indeed opulent. I adore the contrast of Ta’if rose with saffron and sweet date notes. I agree with Steven, that the rose in Ta’if is “bright and airy”. I would love to own a full bottle of this ethereal, beautiful fragrance for Valentine’s Day! NY, USA

  • Like Michelyn, I often cringe when I see mention of a rose/oud combo because it has been so overdone. However, there are always those special few that truly shine and remind us why that combo of regal notes became so popular to begin with. Neela Vermeire is an amazing fragrance house and I am fully confident that their take on the profile will be magical. Blended with lots of spice, resins, sandalwood, and amber, Mohur Extrait sounds divine. Steven’s comments about it’s incredible complexity and its evolution on this skin has me very intrigued. That said, Mohur Extrait is the one I would choose should I be blessed with being chosen. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • Happy Valentine’s Day (early)! Thank you for offering this giveaway. Should I win, I would like the Neela Vermeire Extrait. I am in the US.

  • Yes, Cleopatra loved her roses! I do like rose fragrances, especially the unique unisexy ones. Steven mentioned Carlos Powell RIP. I loved his channel. If lucky, I’d choose Mohur Extrait by Neela Vermeire. Thanks for another wonderful review and draw. MI USA

  • I live in the U.S. and would like to win Taif. Like Steven, I find Taif (my sample) very airy. Others have smelled spice, dates, and orange blossom, like Michelyn, but so far I haven’t. What I do smell is a fresh rose, maybe with a warm breeze wafting in. Maybe spritzing more than the tiny little bit I do (to save my sample!) would give me those dates and orange blossoms.

  • Joel Franco says:

I have a fragrance of Ormonde Jayne is Montabaco and it’s fantástic and I am sure this is spectacular , booth, thanks Steve for the video

  • I recently smelled Lyric Man and interestingly I liked it! But for sure out of the three fragrances my pick would be Neela Vermeire Mohur. From Steven’s video I learned that this is an interesting and nonlinear perfume which is promising. I also like the spiciness and carrot seed addition. But what really made me super interested is Michelyn’s review! I am also not a fan of rose. I’ve been searching high and low for a rose that I can wear (with no success). I also don’t like rose oud fragrances. And if Mohur changed her mind…I have hight hopes for me too! I’m from Illinois US and I would love to win Mohur!

  • What intrigues me in this article by Michelyn and Steven is the part of the text where Michelyn says: “If you are like me and shy away when you read that a fragrance has notes of rose and oud…. Mohur Extract will change your mind .” I can’t stand the rose-oud duo if Mohur extract is different so I absolutely have to try it! I live in France, EU.

  • I love the reviews, they always paint a picture of the perfumes.
They all seem so good, but I think Ormonde Jayne Ta’if , sounds more up my ally. I live in Ohio (USA)

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

    I am very interested in
    Ormonde Jayne Taif
it’s an opulent composition, an interesting blend of spices and flowers, that makes a bold entrance and is confident enough to push everyone else aside – a true party beauty! I would love to have it!
    I’m from the EU

  • Loved the review of these rose frags. Ta’if and Lyric have now been added to my test list.

I’m in the US and would chose Ta’if if I won.

  • Looking at Mohur Extrait from Neela Vermeire, I see a lot of notes that I love in a fragrance, so I am sure I am going to love this one. I also never tried anything from this house, so perhaps it is time to break the ice with Mohur Extrait. Please count me in for Mohur Extrait (living in the EU) and good luck to everyone!
    Many thanks!!

  • whimsical diva says:

I really love the description of Mohur extrait as a religious experience – I’d call it transcendental, and I get the same feeling from NVC’s Trayee as well. Oud generally puts me off scents, but the oud in Trayee is so perfectly judged it’s a masterclass in how oud can be incorporated. I’ve tried the Mohur EdP and remember it as a warm rose cardamom scent. I’d love to win the extrait. I live in the USA.

  • Liquidasset77 says:

Both game great reviews. The description and passion for the fragrances came out with such vivid language I could practically smell the fragrance. Michigan USA

  • Cleopatra famously carpeted her boudoir with rose petals while entertaining Marc Antony, so he would always think of the Egyptian Queen anytime, anywhere he smelled a rose. Here are Steven’s and Michelyn’s co-curated choices for three of the best Valentine’s Day Rose Perfumes 2024 you should be wearing. -Michelyn Camen. Editor-in-Chief One of the first niche rose perfumes I bought was Ta’if composed Geza Schoen for Ormonde Jayne. –Michelyn A beautiful description by both Steven and Michelyn but Ormonde Jayne Taif has really stolen my heart spices, rose, saffron and dates. If I am lucky to win I would to win this beuty. Thanks a million from the UK

  • One of the first niche rose perfumes I bought was Ta’if composed Geza Schoen for Ormonde Jayne. It was released in 2004 and only available at the shop in London. If you want to blend in at a party, this is not the perfume to wear…it is audacious, opulent and sweeps into a room like the star it is. –Michelyn A wonderful description by both Michely’ and Steven. I am intrigued by Taif just because of the spices, saffron, dates and orange blossom this sounds like a magical concoction. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

  • I qualify only for Neela’s Mohur Extrait, but nevertheless, that would be my to go choice if there were other prizes as well. I really like the bottle and the colour, besides the suggestion of/and link to the roses, the shape of it, it gives me a vibe of oriental opulence whilst the red colour sends me dreaming to palaces and royalty.
I would love to add this pretious ruby to my perfume wardrobe!
    Thank you!

  • Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait sounds like a rose fragrance I need to own or get my nose on. Michelin described it beautifully and Steven review illuminated how this a rose fragrance for me. Rose is my favorite fragrance note and the nuances of of Mohur intrigues me.

  • I really like Steven’s and Michelyn’s choices of rose perfumes that are closest to their hearts for Valentine’s Day.
Based on the reviews, I’m intrigued by Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait – that one I’d love to win. What spoke to me was Michelyn’s description: “I don’t think of it as rose perfume, but as a religious experience. If you are like me and shy away when you read that a fragrance has notes of rose and oud…. ” as I am exactly that kind of person – never too sure about the rose-oud combo.
    I’m from EU.

  • I have tried Ta’if and it was incredible. I really respect the integrity and quality of Ormonde Jayne.

But the reviews of Mohur Extrait really caught my eye. I am the lucky owner of Nahema Extrait and any comparison to that commands my full attention. A rose that is expanded and elevated until it becomes its own entity.

Mohur Extrait is enhanced by the gems of the Indian subcontintent like sandalwood, resins and oud. I love both rose and oud but I’m usually wary of the combination. However, Michelyn’s remark puts me at ease. And Redolessence provides a great overview of the scent profile of all three perfumes.

I have a small bottle of Trayee that I treasure dearly. The dynamic duo of Vermeire and Duchafour is a force to be reckoned with. Should I win, I would love to add Mohur Extrait to my shelf.

    I live in Denmark, EU.

  • As a man i absolutely love rose scents, i have plenty in my collection.
looking forward to get my nose on Mohur extrait and Taif.

    From France (EU)

  • Mainevent006 says:

I was impressed by both Michelyn’s written reviews as well as Steven’s video. Until now, I wasn’t familiar with Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait nor Ormonde Jayne Ta’if. Both sound right up my alley as I find rose fragrances particularly interesting. Lyric Man has been on my radar for quite some time, but I’ve yet to sample it. I live in Junction City, Oregon.

  • Thank you for the reviews, Michelyn and Steven!
I also believe that fragrances crafted by Geza Schoen for Ormonde Jayne stand out with their distinctive light molecular component, making the rose in Ta’if, as Steven mentions, airy, ethereal, and highly diffusive. I haven’t tried Lyric yet, but I’m intrigued by Steven’s description of it. And I’m particularly intrigued by the Rose in Mohur Extrait from Neela Vermeire Creations, as it carries a religious undertone and embodies the rich, dense and somewhat dark rose that I adore.
I love Michelyn’s description of Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait as a transformative experience evoking echoes of a beloved melody, this is so poetic and captivating. I’m intrigued by her comparison to a religious encounter!
If I were to win, I would definitely choose Neela Vermeire Mohur Extrait.

    I live in the EU

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

Michelyn described the ormand Jayne’a saffron in a beautiful way. Steven is always so thorough about how perfume smells and performs. I’d love to win the ormandnjayne and live in Indiana.

  • Max Corvinus says:

Rose is one of my favourite florals and I love blending it with dark and heavy notes.

I must admit all three sound far too bright for my idea of a Valentine’s day, but out of all of them, Taif seems to be my favourite. As a more Middle-Eastern leaning nose, I will probably wear something heavy for Valentine’s day like some opulent oud attar with a heavy dose of rose and frankincense mixed in. Taif could complement that combo and give it a lift.
    I live in Croatia EU

  • Mohur Extrait sounds gorgeous. I am not totally over with the rose /oud combo, I kind of enjoy it, but I definitely agree it’s been overdone and overused so it might really put some people off. Mohur sounds beautiful though, a religious experience and a fragrance bathed in spice, benzoin and amber. So romantic, passionate and perfect for Valentine’s day. I would love to win Mohur Extrait.
    I’m from the EU.

  • shelly wolf says:

I agree with the video review about the gentleness of T’aif. It is subtle but still gets you noticed a bit. I am super interested in the Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait. Rose and spices seems like the next step, a bit more out there. I have never tried that house before but love the post on their facebook feed of photos around Paris etc… I live in the Bay Area of California.

  • recursivemask says:

Michelyn’s reviews are intriguing, painting pictures of these seasonally appropriate perfumes. Steven’s insightful as always, he really makes me wanna try the Ormonde Jayne. US.

  • Love, love, love anything that has rose notes in it. I was especially intrigued by the 3 mentioned in this article because they are so complex and rich. Oh my goodness, the description of Neela Vermeire Mohur Extrait sounds incredible. All those spicy notes with the woody, sandalwood drydown sounds divine. I love Bombay Bling by Neela Vermeire, so I would absolutely love to win Mohur Extrait.
    I live in the USA.

  • Big fan of ROSE fragrances. Steven and Michelyn did a wonderful job. I lean more towards Michelyn’s Review of Ormond Jayne Taif. I was so pleased they meantion Carols Brooklyn Fragrance. It’s 3 years now we loss a wonderful Friend from the fragrance community. USA

  • Ta’if by Ormonde Jayne sounds really amazing, i like what the reviews say about hhaving a gentle quality and made it sound like the quality is of the charts.

  • I like that Mohur has been compared to a religious experience. Rose is such a character in perfumes and Taif’s temperamental and tumultuous character must be exceptional, I also love the idea of orange blossom scented sea. Hard to choose between the two. I’ll go for Mohur but either would be very welcome . I live in the EU.

  • thee_boy_wonder says:

I truly enjoy the partnership between Cafleurebon and Steven! He always brings so much life into the fragrances he reviews and brakes the complexity of fragrance down for viewers. And the history and back story provided by Michelyn always helped to deepen the appreciation for the craft and artistry of fragrance!

    Pennsylvania, US

  • Enjoyed Michelyn’s and Steven reviews!
I have tested Amouage Lyric Man a few tears ago and remember I was impressed ! Now I am very intrigued by Michelyn description of Mohur – rich rose with benzoin and amber! Real chic !!
Love complex perfumes as Steven described about Mohur.
Would like to win OJ Taif or Mohur.
    US, DE

  • These rose compositions all sound so daring and bold, unlike a simplistic soliflore. Rose is my favorite! From portland, OR.

  • As a long time subscriber of redolessence his video review in regards to Ormonde Jayne ta’if has me intrigued, his description of it being sensual and airy at the same time as well as being soft but having the ability to get you noticed sounds like a dream.

Michelyn breakdown of the notes with the gorgeous rose enriched with saffron, dates and orange blossom has me almost drooling :D, what a great review !
As a rose love I would love a bottle of Ormonde Jayne ta’if

    From London, UK

  • Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait sounds like an amazing fragnance. Would be amazing if I can try it. Greetings from Bulgaria.

  • AromaDulce73 says:

Amouage Lyric for Men would have been my 1st choice but I will go with Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait. I like Michelyns description “I don’t think of it as rose perfume, but as a religious experience”.

Also like the fact that this fragrance has Oud and spices in it. This fragrance is “Rich & Mysterious” according to Steven. I like how that sounds.

    Los Angeles Ca. USA

  • Ooh, I’ve actually tried all three of these fragrances and I love them all, so I can’t help but agree with the praise in the reviews! I have a bottle of Ta’if and it’s my go-to for holidays and celebrations, it’s such a happy fragrance and it doesn’t clash with food. I would be so excited to win Neela Vermeire Mohur Extrait. I drained my sample years ago but I still think about the rich texture of it, Mohur is one of those timeless delights of perfumery and the extrait is next level. I am in the USA, thank you for the draw!

  • FragranceIsMe says:

The way both Steven and Michelyn spoke of Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait, it is a fragrance that I look forward to experiencing.
    USA

  • Michelyn and Steven made all three of these perfumes sound amazing (I love rose!) but Mohur Extrait is the one that really stands out. Michelyn mentioned the strong benzoin element to the amber, which I always love, and Steven how Steven described the spiciness, richness, and complexity. If I’m lucky enough to win, I’d definitely pick Mohur Extrait! I’m in MN, USA.

  • Based on Michelyn review who wouldn’t want a complex rose by Bertrand Duchaufour that’s like a religious experience!
    Neela Vermeire Mohur Extrait please.
    USA

  • Rose is the queen of flowers for a reason. It’s a note that lends itself to so many different moods of fragrance from light and flirty to dark and sensual. I’m a big fan of Neela Vermeire Creations and would love to try Mohur Extrait. I’m in the US.

  • Great article! Ormonde Jayne Taif sounds intriguing. I have been wondering what to wear for Valentine’s Day and Taif sounds interesting

  • Ormond Jayne seems to be really bringing it! I’m so impressed with their work. I think you both have convinced me I need to get mor Ormaond Jayne I. My collection. In mayrland.

  • Sherin Thomas says:

I’m die hard fan of rose so to me this was naturally very interesting! I currently wearing Lyric man & I have a sample from vintage one too, so this to me is intriguing to try these perfumes! Amazing review, from PA USA

  • I did not know that about Cleopatra. I’m sure roses were a luxury at that time. Thanks for talking about Carlos. I can’t believe it’s been 3 years, I saw Steven’s post on Instagram. Miss him! I’d love to win mohair Extract because I already own Ta’if which is amazing!! Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I find very interestings Both reviews. Michelyn write a wonderful review where It is possible almost to feel each of the Fragrances Only by reading the articule. I LOVE that she loves Mohur because she loves flowers, that she have choose Lyric man as one of the Best roses scents and that Taif by Ormonde Jayne hada been one of the first roses perfumes she tried. Steven makes at the same time a very entertaining video with very interesting explanations regarding the perfumes. I Live in Spain!

  • What a great trio! Michelyn’s reassurance that it will overcome any reservations about the rose and oud pairing and Steven’s praise of the evolution of the fragrance make me want to try Mohur Extrait. In the US.

  • Amouage and Rose, this is the best combination you can ever ask for in a perfume. This is an elegant and enchanting choice to go with!!

  • Great article! Ormonde Jayne Taif sounds intriguing. I have been wondering what to wear for Valentine’s Day and Taif sounds interesting I only today found you guys and subscribed to all social media. I wonder why your channel and website were not recommended to me before, you are amazing I live in OR, USA

  • Danu Seith-Fyr says:

Great video, thanks Steven. What a great selection amongst so many rose centred perfumes available today. Michelyn describes perfectly these three, stating that ta’if was temperamental and tumultous, how true. Of all I am besotted by Neela’s Mohur Extrait.
Thank you both for insightful coverage.
    I live in SW France

  • My choice is Mohur Extrait. Michelyn’s written review was very informative about rose fragrances I learnd so much about outstanding compositions! I loved how Steven described the fragrances for instance the phrase “charismatic nature” really makes me intrested in the fragrance. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • Oh, how I love roses! Rose is the note I’m most comfortable with when it comes to wearing perfumes so reading this article of course I am curious about Ormonde Jayne – Taif and Neela Vermeire – Mohur. I love Amouage Lyric Man and although I am female, the Man one speaks to me more. In fact, it is on my wishlist for quite some time.
But I would choose Mohur to try because Mychelin described it an religious experience and absolutely unforgettable and Steven mentioned it as a charismatic perfume. I love the notes and also the bottle, it’s just gorgeous!
    Greetings from Romania, EU.

  • Michelyn Camen’s written review of the selected Valentine’s Day Rose Perfumes showcases a deep appreciation for the artistry and complexity of fragrance. Her descriptions evoke a sense of intimacy and passion, inviting readers to explore the olfactory journey these perfumes offer.

Camen’s review of Amouage Lyric for Men pays homage to the late Carlos Powell, infusing the discussion with personal sentiment and reverence for his memory. She captures the essence of the fragrance, highlighting its refreshing lime opening, delicate rose heart, and rich base of vanilla and sandalwood. By intertwining the fragrance’s notes with emotional resonance, Camen elevates the experience beyond mere sensory exploration.

In her exploration of Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait, Camen reveals a nuanced perspective on rose perfumes, admitting her initial reservations while celebrating the brilliance of this particular creation. Through vivid imagery and evocative language, she conveys the transformative power of Mohur Extrait, likening it to a religious experience. By sharing her personal journey of discovery, Camen invites readers to challenge preconceived notions and embrace the unexpected beauty found within fragrance. Love it – Poland, EU

  • I like Steven’s tribute, especially since Lyric Man was also my late grandmother’s only niche choice (besides Jeroboam-BOHA), when she decided to transition from her beloved Cacharel-Eden and Elizabeth Arden-5th Avenue to niche waters, and despite to all the little samples that I gave her thinking it might be suitable for her taste, it was Lyric Man that she smelled on me that she wanted. I am a big lover of roses, and they take up a lot of space in my cabinet, especially oriental and rose-oud combinations. Mohur Extrait is a beautiful and elegant perfume that makes you feel like you are a special guest of a ceremony (special and beautiful just like the bottle it is in), and it goes towards the lighter side of roses, which I don’t have and would like to have in my collection. I am signing up for Mohur Extrait, because Ta’if by Ormonde Jayne is an undeniably beautiful perfume, but one that leans more towards the feminine side. Germany, EU.

  • I’m still learning to love rose-based fragrances, so I enjoy reading about the varied interpretations out there, and they’re a great fit for a Valentine’s Day list. Michelyn’s remarks about Mohur Extrait stood out; a “religious experience” rose for those of us that usually don’t enjoy them. Steven expanded on the perfume’s progression, and it’s overall mood, which made it sound even more compelling. Also, I appreciated Steven’s choice of Amouage Lyric in tribute to Carlos Powell. Great list and reviews.

I’m in the USA. If I were to win, I’d choose the Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait. Thanks!

  • I must say I’m a huge fan of roses – as flowers and as perfume ingredient.
Michelyn got me interested in Ormonde Jayne Ta’if with “Tumultuous and temperamental, with an edgy combination of spicy saffron and sweet dates afloat an orange blossom scented sea.” but Steven made me want to try Neela Vermeire Mohur Extrait as he finds it so amazing and one of the best perfumes. That’s why I’d like to win Mohur Extrait.

  • While I thought the difference in description of Ta’if by Michelyn and Steven was interesting, I lean more toward the notes in Mohur Extrait and the nonlinear aspect discussed. I also like a more unisex aspect for Valentines – we can both wear it! I’d choose the Mohur Extrait. USA

  • Mohur Extrait sounds lovely based on Michelyn’s and Steven’s words, good job on awaking intrigue in me! I absolutely love the sound of Mohur Extrait, which would be my choice should I win this giveaway.

    I live in Sweden, EU.

  • I too am not a rose perfume lover, but I do like rose IN perfume as a note. The review made Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait sound like a must-try, but admittedly the term “religious experience’ would do that! Steven as always is a pleasure to watch and I value his opinions even when I don’t agree. He has made me add Lyric Man to my want-to-try list! I would select Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait if I was selected in the draw. I live in the US.

  • What a difficult choice and generous giveaway! I love both Mohur and Ta’if, but I think I would select Mohur if I won. Michelyn is correct in her assertion that it is a religious experience; that is exactly how I felt when I tried the original years ago. Neela brings out the richness of rose so superbly. And Ta’if is so beautiful – Steven highlighted the dates and the tea aspect of the rose in this perfume, which has always appealed to me. I love how “user friendly” rose is in so many perfumes, whether it’s the star of the show or a background player making sure the show goes on for other key players. Dear Carlos, I miss him and Jean et Claude. I have never gotten my nose on his beloved Lyric for men, but I absolutely adore Lyric for women. I sprayed myself with some today in his honor; his memory is always a blessing. I really enjoyed this set of rose reviews. Happy Valentine’s Day, CFB! I’m in the US, and a Redolessence subscriber (@devonhernandez9735).

  • There’s indeed a rose fragrance for everyone Iike Michelyn said, I prefer the cleaner ones , and if possible with some sweetness added.
☆ Lyric Man is floral, woody , spicy and musky – elegant , formal occasions fragrance . Can’t say I smell galbanum like Steven.
☆ Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait

“is similar to Neela’s original Mohur, but deeper, richer and absolutely unforgettable.”

I agree Mohut Extrait is unforgettable , I also feel like the profile is not quite the same compared to Mohur. It’s not just richer and deeper, it a bit sweeter and more jammy, the base is more ambery too.
Being a Pastry Chef i’ll also never forget how Ida once compared Mohur Extrait with Gulab Jamun , shout out to you too Ida ❤

“Try the discovery set https://www.neelavermeire.com/products/discovery-set or buy a sample from LUCKYSCENT ”

Mohur sample is part of Neela Vermeire Creations original collection sample set , Muhur Extrait is not. Luckyscent or some decant/sample store is the only option because Neela Vermeire do not sale Mohur Extrait and Niral samples on her website. I ordered the 2 samples from Luckyscent myself
    ☆ Ormonde Jayne Ta’if
I was not aware Taif was available only in UK at first , interesting information.
To me Ormonde Jayne actually almost equals Ta’if Elixir, smells very, and I mean very similar to a traditional Persian cake with rose, cardamom, saffron, almonds , orange water and dates. It’s called Kayk-e Eshgh , but more people know it as Persian Love Cake. Love it , my second bottle is almost empty. Like Michelyn said Ta’if is temperamental, Ta’if Elixir is too. I have not smelled Ta’if , and I wanted to learn about it for a while.
I’ll be happy to win Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait
Appreciate both reviews, and the giveaway campaign.

I am like Michelyn and not overwhelmingly fond of rose fragrances. They tend to, well, overwhelm me. But I loved reading and hearing the praise both Michelyn and Steven gave to Mohur Extrait. Michelyn wrote that she thinks of Mohur as a religious experience. Wow! That is the highest of praise. I have tried Bombay Bling from Neela Vermeire Creations and loved it so much.
I would definitely choose Mohur Extrait if I were the winner.
    I live in the USA.

  • Rose fragrances always have a story to tell, some are sad, some joyful, some playful , just on a rose train that suits you, and enjoy the ride.
Usually I’m not into such clarifications , Amouage Lyric Woman is so unisex but Lyric Man to me leans masculine. Fresh spicy rose sure , to my nose also more than clean, but very much a soapy fragrance all the way through, even in the drydown when there’s more sandalwood.
Neela Vermeire i believe is one of a kind person. LOVE Bombay Bling, and original Mohur, and now thanks to both of you I’m pumped for Mohur Extrait too. Smooth, floral and balsamic fragrance , deeper than Mohur , sounds fantastic. Every single aspect of the fragrance has its own place, nicely blended and adding to the whole picture .
I’m temperamental, I love to travel too , plus rose and saffron perfumes , Ormonde Jayne Ta’if is a spirit lifting fragrance.
I believe Mohur Extrait would be a great fit for me.
Thanks for the draw , and Happy Valentine’s Day

  • Rose has been used for centuries because the the romantic and/or seductive properties, even during Marc Antony and Cleopatra times.
Lyric Man i vaguely remember, thanks to Stephen I refreshed my memory. Fresher rose , lots of spices and rich vanilla and sandalwood base .
Recently I sampled Fragments by NVC collection and even bought Thyina, it smells fantastic. I believe Neela Vermeire is on the right track, hopefully she’ll stay independent too in the future. Mohur Extrait is next to impossible to sample in Germany, but I’m thrilled by the way Michelyn feels about it , calling the fragrance absolutely unforgettable, close to religious experience comprised of high quality rose crowned in spices, and then bathed in benzoin and rich amber. I always acknowledge such spiritual fragrances.
If done well I’ll never get tired of rose and saffron fragrances , Ormonde Jayne Ta’if sounds stylish and exclusive. I like when there’s saffron in a fragrance, it always adds certain level of sophistication and leathery facets.
Other than Fragments by NVC Thyina I also have Bombay Bling , and I’d love to win Mohur Extrait
    Thanks to all involved

  • Oh I have two of the three so I would definitely love to have the Mohur extrait I am missing. Steven said the Ta’if Rose is bright and airy but I always felt it was a bit sultry compared to some others that feel more jammy or tea or petally etc. I need to try my Ormonde Jayne Ta’if again as it’s been a bit. I appreciate the Cleopatra histoire de seduction from Michelyn. I love rose and love Men’s Lyric just a bit more than the women’s tbh.
    In California thank you!

  • Michelyn introduction made me think of the rose fragrances I like the most. From all different types of roses she mentioned all i love , with the exception of “downright dirty”.
Big fan of Interlude Man , stunning fragrance , Lyric Man I’ve never smelled. I like how deep, complex, and multi-layered Lyric Man is , how it dials back the smoky incense
With her experience i so wonder what kind of fragrance Michelyn thinks possesses “absolute perfection” , and “religious experience” type of properties, and I’d like to know will Mohur Extrait be as good as Trayee , my favorite from Neela Vermeire. I really like the bath in benzoin amber and brilliant rose.
Ta’if i own, I had the pleasure of smelling it for the first time when I decided to dig into Ormonde Jayne 5-6 years ago. Not sure why , but on me Ta’if gets dweeter and sweeter going into second hour. Just like Michelyn describe it – tumultuous edgy fragrance with sweet dates, rose , and orange blossom.
I would tuck my scarf under the collar of my suit , spray some Mohur Extrait and be found of the experience , my choice
Thank you Michelyn, Steven, Neela Vermeire Creations and Ormonde Jayne

    Hello from UK
In Lyric Man I really like the upscale rose , medley of spices, the ginger, and the meditative charm in the base.
Quite a lot of superlatives about Mohur Extrait coming from Michelyn Camen, it’s obvious that she’s so impressed by the sophistication of the fragrance, the balance between ingredients and the whole experience.
Splendid approach , Ta’if is.. i imagine depicting Linda Pilkington as a business owner, and creative person showing the sweet, spicy and romantic parts of her character. I even have a favorite Ormonde Jayne fragrance , it’s Tolu. The biggest 120ml bottle is in my possession , bought it in person at Ormonde Jayne boutique in Royal Arcade Mayfair.
    Thank you

  • No surprise that rose was chosen by Michelyn Camen and Redolessence as the main topic for Valentine’s Day.
What a fragrance Lyric Man is gentle, rich and relaxing, with the good amount of spices ,vanilla and sandalwood.
I can tell the connection made by the two fragrance journalist calling Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait amazing, unforgettable and pointing out its level of complexity. The rose+rich amber+Bertrand Duchaufour combination is something I’m enthusiastic about , and gorgeous bottle makes the whole story complete.
Sweet dates , orange blossom and rose ? I know Ormonde Man and ow i wonder why I’m not aware of Ta’if?
Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait is my choice
Thanks for the two way reviews , and the giveaway

  • I agree that there’s a rose fragrance for everyone. Rose has always been one of my favorite notes, as well as one of my favorite flowers. I have only tried Lyric Woman, but Lyric Man sounds great. I love how Steven mentions the meditative charm it possesses from the frankincense. It was also a very nice tribute to include the fragrance for Carlos Powell.

I love Mohur Extrait; it’s such a beautiful rose fragrance. I agree with Michelyn that it’s similar to the original yet deeper and richer. I also agree that it’s a must-sample! Ormonde Jayne Taif is another excellent choice. It’s one of my favorite fragrances featuring taif rose; it’s truly beautiful. As Michleyn points out, it is opulent but I agree with Steven’s comment about it being “gentle” at the same time.

Thank you, Michelyn and Steven, for the great reviews of your best rose fragrance for Valentine’s Day. Thank you to Neela Vermeire and Ormonde Jayne for the generous giveaways. It is almost impossible to decide which one I would choose, so I would love to be considered for both fragrances. I am located in the USA.

  • Valentine’s Day is almost here , and at least for me love is in the air
I know Amouage for Interlude Black Iris, Reflection Man and Material, the only 3 I’ve smelled, the latter i own. Lyric Man is new to me and I’m interested in the fresher rose , the mystery and relaxing properties.
The two contributors slightly different views about Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait i find stimulating, and it’s also confirms how complex the fragrance is .
With or without a the edgy parts , the flavor of dates, roses spicy saffron in Ormonde Jayne Ta’if i find enthralling.
The absolutely unforgettable according to Michelyn Camen Mohur Extrait would be great
    Thank you kindly, from EU

  • Hey , I first discovered Neela Vermeire Creations fragrances watching Redolessence videos. Thanks to him and Michelyn Camen reviews i started thinking all kinds of beautiful roses, from photorealistic, to fruity, spicy , gourmand and modern.
In Amouage Lyric I like the spicy and fresh take on rose , and the meditative charm.
The rich and brilliant rose bathed in benzoin and rich amber elements, the facets together with Michelyn Camen thoughts are making me believe smelling Mohur Extrait would be almost esoteric experience.
Thanks to both of you I’m also curious about Ormonde Jayne Ta’if, and the way it evolves. The contrast between the gourmand sweet dates , roses and spices, is to die for
Trayee is my darling by Neela Vermeire , and I’m thrilled by the chance of winning Mohur Extrait
    Thank you, and fingers crossed

  • Happy Valentine’s Day to all Marc Antony and Cleopatra like rose lovers
Lyric Man is a fragrance i own , and i have to say the way it smells on Redolessence is close but not quite the same compared to the way it smells on me. More of a professional, well dressed fragrance than mysterious and meditative. To me smells like super luxurious bar of rose soap.
Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait is a captivating fragrance , one of a kind warm , spicy and ambery rose . The thickness , natural ingredients , the perfumer too , i find to be the most appealing features. Not to mention the enchanting properties
The brand of Ormonde Jayne I’ve heard about, but I’m unfamiliar with. I like the idea of spicy saffron, rose and sweet dates made into an edgy fragrance.
I thought about it and if I happen to be the winner I’d choose Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait
Thank you Michelyn Camen and Redolessence for the reviews ,and of course for the generosity

  • JulienFromFrance says:

I like the review of Michelyn and Chris, mainly because I’m very happy to see “Mohur” extrait get more attention. I had the chance to try it, it’s worth every penny. I’ve been haunted by it since.

From Chris, I liked its take on “Lyric man” from Amouage.
It reminded me when I hesitated between the “Lyric man” and “Lyric woman”, and chose that I prefered the more assertive “Lyric woman”. I stil kept a soft spot for the man version, it’s velvety, restrained, smart, and one of a kind. I’m also reminded that I’ve been that I’ve tempted more than once by Ormonde Jayne’s line, and that indeed the “Ta’if” swept away all my doubt. It has a dreamy quality, and it’s hard for me to say analytical when a perfume is working on me.
From Michely, I learned the story about the use of rose petal by Cleopatra, so her lover would be reminded of her each time he crossed a rose.
I also liked how she compared “Mohur” to Nahema. At this level of density, roses are also jammy, and I love that 🙂

For me, it smelled like an Indian princess dressed in black silk velvet. Because Mohur extrait is all about soft texture, shiny effect, and evolution, but first of all it inspires me “respect”, maybe because of that extrait hint of oud. There is that extra hint or royalty in it, compared to the EDP.
This princess is inviting you to take a cup of tea, with some dried fruit. One can smell the roses in bloom in the backyard. They smell like the best Maroccan rose used by Lutens in some perfumes, so fresh with a hint of green, and that intoxicating depth. There are leafy green, like violet leaves effects, like those that Duchaufour used so well in the past for “Ostara” or “I miss violet”.
One can smell all the furniture carved in precious wood, in the room of the princess, mainly sandalwood and cedar. This extrait is unalloyed quality.

Mohur extrait is expensive and hard to find, but I hardly press perfumelover to search outlet and try it.
Last but not least, the bottle is, I thing, from the French glassmaker Waltersperger, and I love that extra purple color.
I live in the EU, France.

Happy Valentine’s day for everybody! And I wish a lot of happiness to the winner with her or his future perfume 🙂

  • Cleopatra and Marc Antony rose story is well suited for the 2024 Valentines Day theme.
Rose is one of my favorite notes , I love them sweet, spicy, smoky, more natural, I love them all… well except the dirty ones.
    Amouage Lyric Man (Daniel Visentin)
Fragrances like Lyric Man you don’t smell often, unless you’re part of the Upper Class, or a price or princess in Oman .Journey Man and Interlude Black Iris are in my possession
Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur in my opinion is marvelous multifaceted rose and oud fragrance, with incense and cassis, or at least I can smell incense and cassis. It may not be cassis, but I smell something fruity in Mohur. Michelyn said that Mohur and Mohur Extrait are quite similar , and the Extrait is deeper and richer so I imagined a better version of Mohur basically.
Roses ,dates, orange blossom all wrapped in saffron?Ormonde Jayne Ta’if sounds quite nice
My choice is Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Etrait
    Exciting giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • All in all the two adepts Michelyn Camen and Redolessence are found of Valentine’s Day , and premium rose fragrances
Out of 3 we should be wearing i know one , Lyric Man , fresh citrus start with rose , and then the blast of spices is kicking in. From the ones I don’t know I’m curious about both Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait and Ormonde Jayne Ta’if
Mohur Extrait due to Michelyn Camen zealous review . Can’t help but think of the ethereal traits of the fragrance stepping on the rose and oud classical foundation.
Ormonde Jayne Ta’if due to symmetry between the roses, dates and the opulence.
The intoxicating Mohur Extrait I’d enjoy the most
    Much obliged

Thanks for the nice video Steven and writeup Michelyn. Steven sounds a little stuffy, so I hope that you heals up.

I’ve been a big fan of Neela Vermiers work and collaborations with well known perfumers. I love the use of spices in conjunction with the rose to really create a multidimensional floral fragrance. I would love to win a bottle of Mohur Extrait

I’m also curious about Amouage’s Lyric man, since the lime and rose combination is not one that is seen too often.

    Cheers from WI, USA

I am always grateful for getting the opportunity to learn about unique and interesting rose fragrances. Rose used to be my most challenging floral note so I appreciate any chance to let my guard down and open up to its various facets. Michelyn and Steven’s picks seem brilliant – sophisticated, perfectly executed and endlessly charming. Michelyn has managed to showcase her respect and admiration for the way rose can be showcased in ambitious perfumes. I love a good rose in a men’s fragrance so Lyric Men gets attention from me no doubt, especially as I love the daring spicy aspects of Amouage creations. Tea-like rose is probably my favorite rendition of the note, along the jammy and deep oriental roses, so the taif rose coupled with patchouli, saffron, dates, moss and vanilla sounds dreamy. Mohur Extrait has drawn me with all of its aspects, from the bottle to the combo of elemi resin and black pepper and carrot seeds in the note list. Charismatic, dynamic and non – linear are features of masterful perfume creations and I am happy to hear Steven use those adjectives to describe Mohur Extrait. the notes used are just astounding. If I was to win, I would pick Mohur Extrait. I am in the EU

  • Big time YES to roses , upscale niche perfumery, daring approaches roses and aesthetics , all Amouage Lyric Man , Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait and Ormonde Jayne Ta’if I’ll gladly wear.
Amouage is a brand every fragrance enthusiast knows , mostly for Jubilation XXV but Lyric Man is also a popular fragrance. I like how Redolessence spoke of the base – vanilla and sandalwood, rich and inviting.
I never had a chance to smell Mohur Extrait sounds groundbreaking to me, the echoes of a melody i most likely also won’t be able to get out of my head, Bertrand Duchaufour is capable of making such classy rose , oud and amber perfumes.
Don’t know much about Ormonde Jayne , can’t go with taif rose , saffron and natural sweetness from the dates
Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait is my choice
    Thanks a bunch

  • Salutations
I’m not an expert on historical figures like Cleopatra and Marc Antony but I’m definitely into refined rose fragrances. It’s a good thing that Cafleurebon rose suggestions are different from each other, Lyric is fresher, Mohur Extrait more classy, and Ta’if more modern with the dates accord.
I can say Ormonde Jayne Ta’if is definitely modern , yet it doesn’t feel juvenile and love such creations. I find the fragrance tempting for the a) sensual components b) elegance c) original narrative d) tea like rose smell
    Ta’if I’d appreciate very much
    It’s been a pleasure

  • It’s the time that you spent on your rose that makes your rose so important…People have forgotten this truth, but you mustn’t forget it. You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed. You’re responsible for your rose.
    – Antoine de Saint-Exupery
The Little Prince, Chapter XXI. The Fox speaking to the Prince.

I’m focusing on rose fragrances each , and every day of the year , one of my favorite notes in perfumery. As usual I’ll share my thoughts on the fragrances in the list , and compare my thoughts with what Michelyn and Steven are getting starting with the way Steven showed them in his video
Amouage Lyric Man (and not Lyric for Men) ,composed by Daniel Visentin is arguably the most underrated fragrance from the brand. Deep and complex incensy and peppery rose
I know both Ta’if and Ta’if Elixir, and personality i prefer the Elixir version, it’s deeper , richer and to my liking the dates and the leather facets coming from the saffron are more pronounced. My skin is really dry, and the original Ta’if i wouldn’t call audacious and opulent, but more close the the skin and tamed.
Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait, composed by Bertrand Duchaufour is magnificent, no questions asked , Michelyn is not exaggerating one bit. Never smelled vintage Nahema, Mohur Extrait is on completely different level compared to the current Nahema formulation. Mohur Extrait is indeed similar to Mohur like Michelyn pointed out, but on my skin it’s sweeter and the rose feels jammy. Not a gourmand by any means, but something in Mohur Extrait reminds me of hand made Turkish rose loukoum .
Bertrand Duchaufour Mohur Extrait I’d like to win
All profiles I already follow, @waltherp99bg

In my opinion people need to be aware the real name of the Roman politician, general and one of the leaders of the Second Triumvirate is Marcus Antonius , and NOT Mark Anthony! His anglicized name is spelled Mark Antony because of Shakespeare.

  • Howgy everyone
I wonder if Lyric Man will receive extrait version like Jubilation and Interlude , mysterious rose fragrance
Considering all the superlatives I tried to, but wasn’t able to find Mohur Extrait sample anywhere in UK , only the original Mohur. I’m curious about Neela Vermeire fragrances anyway so I guess I’ll start with the discovery set where original Mohur is already available.
Geza Schoen made my favorite Clive Christian X for Men I’m sure he did great again with Ormonde Jayne Ta’if – basket of tasty dates , rose , uniqueness, and positive affects.
    Thanks, UK

  • Beautiful roses I’m here for you , like Hada Bejat used to say “The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose”
My clear favorites in Valentine’s Day rose fragrances are Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait and Ormonde Jayne Ta’if
Mohur Extrait i adore , fantastic jammy rose, lactonic almonds and resins , with top quality sandalwood , absolute gem . I wonder why both Steven and Michelyn are not picking the lactonic aspects . Other than its magical aroma Mohur Extrait is also quite powerful, and long lasting.
Well Ta’if also sure sounds nice. Quality rose + spices + oud + saffron and dates. Fireplace, warm blankets, bottle of expensive Cabernet Sauvignon , and happy moments is what came to my mind
I’d absolutely love to win Mohur Extrait
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • In one of the previous Cafleurebon themes we were told about the rapid evolving of perfume production , and of some almost futuristic technologies, I’m glad more classical approaches are implemented in all 3 rose fragrances suggestions from the blog.
Ormonde Jayne Ta’if smell i find attractive because of the dates I love eating, romantic rose fragrance that Redolessence also said smells a bit like tea.
    Ta’if please
Thanks a million , from UK

Sorry I forgot to mention what I thought of the article and Steven’s review as well as which fragrance I would like. “Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait is the voice of someone I loved and the plaintiff echoes of a melody that I can’t get out of my head.” – Michelyn. I can’t get those words out of my head. Those words dance around in .y head as if I can smell the fragrance I have yet to put my nose on. I can’t say enough of how/when Steven reviews a fragrance, which is why I follow him. He truly embrace a fragrance in words that he’s fond of. Thank you both for introducing them to me here in Georgia (by way of Bergen County New Jersey).
