In a multibillion-dollar industry that is often driven by the numbers– both in dollars and products sold- fragrance can lose many of the qualities we value most, its ability to stir memories and emotions– with just a dab of scent.  When the emphasis is put on ad campaigns, flankers and celebrity spokespeople as it is for a large percentage of fragrances on the market, something vital is lost… perfume as artistic expression. The 9th Art and Olfaction Finalists 2023 were announced at Esxence, Milan on May 31st. As always, since the awards inception, all fragrances were judged without knowing the name nor the perfumer, blind judging (to remove personal bias and the judges received no compensation: 2023 judges here).

Congrats to all the finalists! Look forwards to experiencing these artworks and reading the reviews about them.
For two years in a row, there are multiple perfumers nominated from Greater China. The perfume market is literally booming here, and glad to see those talented artists get recognised. Hope to encounter more creations from more diverse backgrounds in future!
