“Encore du temps is a love dedication, it is a flower fallen into a cup of tea.” ~ Meo Fusciuni

What a lovely introduction to Encore du temps, the latest fragrant composition from Sicilian-born Meo Fusciuni (whose given name is Giuseppe Imprezzabile) Meo Fusciuni Encore Du Temps is an intimate aromatic ode to both Meo’s beloved and their treasured memories of Indochina – Laos, in particular. Meo rhapsodizes with a heartfelt lyricism:

“I wish time would stop right now”

Time does not exist here

and the night becomes an illusory time without coordinates.

Asia welcomes us.

The scent of wet earth wakes us up.

The scent of incense from the small temple of Don Khon

has invaded our small room overlooking the garden”.

Olfactory memory is surely the most compelling feature of our fifth sense. Through it we are able to resurrect, summon experience and personal history as if by sorcery – it is that infallible. Meo has been able to sustain some of his sojourn in Luang Prabang by planting osmanthus in his garden. Its autumnal blossoming rekindles that shared cup of tea on the terrace in times past, a floating tiny fragrant flower bobbing atop a transparent limpid loveliness which nurtures the corporeal and spiritual self. To be profoundly enamored of another as you explore haunting terrain together – previously terra incognita – which is permeated with both earthly and unearthly beauty. A timeless, impenetrable bond was formed in Laos; it is generous of the perfumer to draw us into his memory palace, for which we are most grateful.

If multiple issues over the centuries have been resolved over a cup of tea, then it comes as no surprise that a great love might be forged in a similar manner. The cup, in this instance, is a green one: a delicately astringent green tea which has been prefaced with the elegant simplicity of bergamot and mandarin. Meo’s osmanthus perfumes the cup with its sueded apricot tones; they complement this libation intuitively. As Encore du Temps develops, we become entangled in the sultry headiness of champaca (which smells quintessentially Asian to Meo) and magnolia: spicy, honeyed and redolent of hay. Mate feels instinctual as well: richly smoky with hints of green tobacco, leather, and guaiac wood – a complex dried-grassy tea. Fine sandalwood and benzoin provide a perfect finish, and are frequently blended with champaca for spiritual purpose in several countries in India and South-East Asia. In such a way the perfumer engages us, inviting us to conjure the Laotian landscape as he lovingly recalls it.

Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps

As is the case with many Meo Fusciuni perfumes, Encore du temps possesses a distinctly meditative quality; there is absolutely nothing superficial about it. Each aromatic component’s voice contributes to the coherent fragrant whole. I always feel that no note in Meo’s compositions is chosen gratuitously; it’s not in his nature. He chooses thoughtfully and painstakingly – which is likely why his fragrances are distinguishable from anyone else’s. The man is an original, and his perfumes follow suit. His latest composition is poignantly melodious, tender, and indelible.

Notes: green tea, bergamot, mandarin orange, osmanthus, magnolia, champaca, mate, sandalwood, benzoin.

Sample thoughtfully provided by the perfumer – many thanks!  My nose is my own…

  • Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps seems like an incency, earthy creation that also incorporates other notes I enjoy such as sandalwood. I am particularly excited about Green Tea, a note I fell in live with at the beginning of my perfume journey due to Bvlgari Eau the Vert Extreme. It is clear from the review that Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps has been inspired by many Asian cultures and not just Laos. I am in US.

  • I love how Meo pays tribute to Laos. It is a beautiful country and i have precious memories from travelling there. The note selection looks beautiful without resorting to the most obvious Laotian oud. The harmonious combination of smooth base notes and exotic floral notes is a good representation of the SE-Asian experience.
    I live in Denmark, EU.

  • The osmanthus note is really nostalgic to me having grown up in South East Asia. Thank you Ida for introducing us to Meo’s memory palace. I’m looking forward to trying this thoughtful creation. Based in the UK.

  • Nose Prose says:

I was already interested in this one because osmanthus and tea are among my top favorite notes. This review’s description of how each ingredient contributes to the coherent fragrant whole affirms the thoughtful way in which Encore du Temps was created, and I would love to be lost in the moment with this perfume. Thanks from MA, USA.

  • Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps seems like a rich, tea-y scent that I would love to try. As an avid tea drinker, and someone who is relaxed by the scent of tea (although tea is a stimulant), I look forward to mellowing out to the subtle notes of this fragrance while cozily reading a book.

  • I think Ida and I must be cut from the same cloth. Your reviews alway attract me and this one is the same. This tender and deliberate scent sounds fantastic. I hope to one day experience it. In maryland.

  • As a fan of Meo Fusciuni, and incense, Encore du Temps is calling my name. It sounds perfectly aromatic and delicious. The perfect cup of tea. Thanks for another awesome review and generous draw. Mich USA

  • I have a beautiful Champaca tree and its flowers are lovely and smell similar to ylang ylang. I love the idea of a perfume that smells of champaca and benzoin, an incense-y note. Thank you for this! I live in the US.

  • Meo told me a story wen I tested Little Song and I’ve been dying to try more. I love tea notes and this sounds like another amazing creation. Indiana USA

Lovely review Ida! What appeals to me about Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps based on Ida’s review is learning that the fragrance is a love song, both to his beloved and to the land that they explored for the first time together, creating a love story imprinted on with scent. I love that we are given this little window into both the perfumer’s memory and his love story through the osmanthus blossoms, fragrant tea, and heady, tropical champaca, inviting us into the landscape of Laos and Indochina.

    I live in the US.

  • Nikolina_84 says:

Based on Ida’s review, this is a unique, high quality, carefully thought through scent and I’m absolutely drawn to it just based on the description!
    I’m from Croatia.

  • I love how you call the nozesand accords the aromatic component’s voices. I think this is quite Meo’s understanding.
I like most of his creations, just Varanasi I found terrible. That said I hoped his newly found love for florals doesn’t come in a too heavy way. But your review sounds like he found a good balance. I’m interested! I’d love to win this to Germany, thank you for the draw!

  • This fragrance has an evocative name, it recalls latent emotions. This perfumer fascinates me, the bottle itself is suggestive. Beautiful photos and certainly beautiful fragrance

  • Nice review! Ida remembers us that olfactory memory is an essential part of smell, and Meo Fusciuni Encore du Temps is able to bring Mr. Imprezzabile personal history (his memory palace) in the beautiful Lao town of Luan Prabang. As an osmanthus lover (in teas and fragrances) discovering he grows it in his laotian garden and imagining he picking the small and smelling flowers is a present. The green tea, the apricoty tunes of osmanthus in the opening, the torridity of the asian champaka, the smoky mate and finishing with sandalwood: a recall of Lao landscape. A meditative and coherent scent work through an exact an scrupulous chose of aromatic components. No need of more word. I Live in Spain, EU.

  • Giorgia295 says:

Love the creations of meo fusciuni, luce is one of my favorite, haven’t try yet this new one which sounds very interesting. i love the osmanthus note, which I’m obsessed at the moment.

  • This was an extremely enjoyable article about an introspective and profound perfume centered around the note of green tea, just as I’m enjoying a cup myself.
In particular, the notes of apricot, mandarin, honeyed and floral notes sounded very interesting.
The fact this perfume originates in a trip to Luang Prabang, where I’m sure the pace of life is much slower and more connected to one’s true self than in a big metropolis of the world, probably turns Encore du Temps into a unique and self-revealing experience.
    I am in the EU.

  • This sounds like something I would greatly enjoy! The last part of the review ‘speaks’ to me: Encore du temps possesses a distinctly meditative quality; there is absolutely nothing superficial about it. Each aromatic component’s voice contributes to the coherent fragrant whole.
I am in Europe. Thank you!

  • Skin.On.Me says:

From fresh and elegant green tea to spicy, honeyed and redolent scent, smoky and spiritual – this sounds so complex and brilliant! It would be an honor to have this creation!

  • What a lovely review, and I’m thoroughly intrigued by this scent. Having met my husband on a trip to Vietnam, and having olfactory memories of the evocative scents we came across there, I would love to explore this idea through a true master perfumer’s nose. I also adore tea scents and sandalwood, so I think Encore du temps must be lovely. Thank you for this draw! I’m in the USA.

  • The man is an original, and his perfumes follow suit. His latest composition is poignantly melodious, tender, and indelible.

Notes: green tea, bergamot, mandarin orange, osmanthus, magnolia, champaca, mate, sandalwood, benzoin. I am intrigued by the notes especially Green tea, sandalwood and benzoin. I appreciate Meo Fusciuni originality and his personal stamp. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

Great review by Ida Meo Fusciuni is an absolute master I am loving the notes of Green tea, magnolia and osmanthus. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Thank you Ida. Meditating for another wonderful review and forming or rekindling love memories over a cup of tea sounds inspired 🙂 Thank you Meo Fusciuni for the kind giveaway. I’m in USA

  • Great review Ida, as always! I love the house of Meo Fusciuni, form Odor 93, Narcotico to Varanasi! Every single perfume I’ve tried from the house at least intrigued me and most of them blew me away. Ida wrote great review, very detailed, I can almost smell the Encore du Temps just by reading it! What I’m most interested in is how the green tea note works with sandalwood and benzoin? Would love to try it out! I live in Croatia, EU and I follow cafleurebon on Instagram – my @ is @il.dolce.papi

  • What appeals to me about Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps from Ida’s review are the champaca incense and sandelwood notes. I would love to have a spiritual fragrance thats Indochina inspired. Thanks and many blessings.love. Live in USA.

  • For me, Olfactory memory is the closest to our core and it has absolutely no logic and suffers no transformation.
Creating a scent just from memory with the purpose of being a reminder of a special place, a dearest state of mind, is just art.
Encore du Temps seems a special blend of multiple layers meanings, with unexpected twists.
    Hugs from Romania

  • Based on Ida’s review, I’d want to wear this at a time when I can appreciate the care that went into it. Maybe on a retreat. Or a quiet evening with a friend or a date. Also it reminds me of the Leonard Cohen song “Suzanne”. I am in the US.

  • Every note in this fragrance sounds lovely. If it smells as nice as described, I’m in!

  • I liked reading about how the perfumer recreated the olfactory experience from the past. Meo’s poem in the beginning of Ida’s review of Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps captures the feeling so well. I like incense perfumes and Meo Fusciuni Encore du temps seems to be perfect with its notes including sandalwood, benzoin and tea notes. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

I really love green tea, and knowing this fragrance has some of the essence from it really intrigues me.
The line that I loved the most was this: “Each aromatic component’s voice contributes to the coherent fragrant whole”. A fragrance need to be this: equilibrated.

Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • This sounds interesting with a lot of good stuff going on. I also like the notes listed, so I am sure that I am going to love Encore du Temps. Looks like the perfect choice for the upcoming weather. Thank you! Europe

  • Claumarchini says:

I can’t wait to sniff this new creation by the great Meo Fusciuni, the notes sound absolutely amazing and knowing the mastery of Giuseppe, I am sure it is going to be a memorable scent. I have not been to Laos but have visited Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia and cannot wait to let Encore du Temps transport me back to those countries. This is what Meo Fusciuni’s perfumes are able to do: very few other perfume creators are able to awaken in me forgotten memories (I have the feeling my olfactive memory is not so developed…), but Giuseppe succeeds all the time! Besides, he is such a gentle soul, and Italian like me, so we have to love him! 🙂 Greetings from Milan

  • Encore du temps sound like a perfect Southeastasian perfume, it evades the obvious orientalisms and instead offers an olfactory painting of an evening in Laos with all its perceptible and imagined scents.

Meo Fusciuni Encore du Temps is so appealing to me. The mate tea , green tobacco, the leather, and guaiac wood is effectively used by the owner, and perfumer to make one complex , and enigmatic fragrance.

  • There is so much in this incredible review that adds to the appeal of this fragrance. The first sentiment that hooked my attention was describing the tea as the kind you share with someone you’re trying to become close to and build a bond with—I immediately associated it with a dry, cozy, fullness. The mate only adds to this sensation of coziness as I imagine leather couches and the faint remnants of loose tobacco, smoke from the previous pipe still lingering in the air above our heads, a creaminess in the room from benzoin and sandalwood. This sounds like an absolute treasure.

  • Ive never been to Laos nor tried any Fusciuni scents. Travel has been something I’ve longed to do these past few years and I lobe that perfume can replicate the experience. Meditative scents are my jam and I would live to try this.from USA

  • I want to try this fragrance very much and I want to try all of the fragrance releases from Meo Fusciuni. One reason why that is the case is when Ida says: “As is the case with many Meo Fusciuni perfumes, Encore du temps possesses a distinctly meditative quality; there is absolutely nothing superficial about it. Each aromatic component’s voice contributes to the coherent fragrant whole. I always feel that no note in Meo’s compositions is chosen gratuitously; it’s not in his nature. • First and foremost I will forever and always be intrigued by any fragrance which features tea as a note. Next, I love the way Ida spoke about olfactory memory and how strongly tied to our senses that it is. This one sounds wonderful and I would love to get my nose on it in order to see what experiences are rekindled in my mind. Thanks, as always, for the opportunity and cheers from Illinois, USA!

  • This is, basically, memories in a bottle. I like the idea of trying to decipher what’s in the bottle, and with the given keys – green tea, osmanthus, magnolia, green tobacco, sandalwood – Meo’s effort to render his treasured memories of Indochina must be as appealing as it sounds.
    I am in EU.

When Ida relays and recommends a fragrance so beautifully via her review as she does here, that must mean a lot. The meditative quality of Encore du Temps is tempting to me as I have been on a break from my synthetics during lockdown times and have been searching a refuge for the body and the soul. I love osmanthus, green tea, benzoin, sandalwood, and I feel this fragrance might have a good chance to calm my raging mind when needed. Thank you from Dublin, Ireland, EU

  • Thanks you for this wonderful article Ida!

I have never been to Asia, but there are many perfumers who have travelled there for inspiration. I would love to experience Meo’s creation and be transported to the beautiful country of Laos.

Tea fragrances are quite new to me and I really need to try the meditative and calming nature of this note. Work and Life have been stressful this year and I am pining for some warmer weather to boost my (mental) health. Encore du Temps sounds like the kind of fragrance that would perfectly compliment this!

Reading through your description, I immediately noticed the magnolia note—a note I’ve enjoyed in other perfumes and find to lend a fragrance a distinct character.
