Teo Cabanel Deja Vu (Patrice Revillard) 2023+Bubble Gum and Iris Giveaway

Teo Cabanel Deja Vu Patrice Revillard

Teo Cabanel Deja Vu by Teo Cabanel

When Patrice Revillard is working with iris, you know it will be an interesting fragrance, full of personality and pizazz. He’s the  perfumer who claimed L’Iris de Fath as one of his first works, by winning the competition organized by the brand Jacques Fath to re-create its mythical perfume from the 40’s: Iris Gris and recently Jacques Fath L’Iris de Fath L’Eau de Parfum. His work for Teo Cabanel’s latest fragrance, Deja Vu, is a playful and addictive Bubble Gum wrapped with a vintage lipstick sensuality that iris tends to bring to the table. A real perfumed bubble, this familiar scent, so retro, is a pop of juicy bubble gum accord we often find comforting and a succulent filling of a raspberry, which kicks the flavor of the gum into something jammy and bright.

An irresistible combo of floral, fruity, and musky notes with a touch of faux leather make for an elegant and casual fragrance. It recalls a vintage lipstick scent with a soft powdery contrast of florals and berries lingering inside a leather minaudière bag. This is a grand fragrance and contrasts the moods of modernity and classics. It takes me back to the careless days of my childhood and bubble gum vending machines and on the dry does switches gears into something sensually classic, and stunning. Hence the name Deja Vu seems like a perfect fit.

Hollywood Hair Barbie in Box with Magic Hair Mist 90’s Barbie Doll

Teo Cabanel Deja Vu is a big, bold play on the iris. It’s buttery, vivid, and claims the rooms upon its entry, yet it also has a fun facet of its personality that makes me think of an old Barbie doll. I used to love playing with these perfect dolls with long blonde hair, and that plasticky bubble gum smell hitting me when I would unbox my first-ever Barbie doll. Hollywood Hair Barbie in Box with Magic Hair Mist 90’s Barbie Doll to be exact, and the coloring mist for the stencil that was meant to be applied over the golden blonde hair and produce these beautiful pink little hearts had this berry sweet bubble gum and fruits kind of smell to it, and I loved it. I was practically addicted to it as a kid. Now so many years later, Deja Vu transported me to that moment almost instantly, putting a big smile on my face as I slowly inhaled its soft, powdery aroma.

I don’t have to tell you about the power of scents to bring memories, and that is the main reason I consider this passion a never-ending quest to collect moments and memories into the sensory treasure chest we all have within us. It is beautiful to have the opportunity to explore, write about and share with anyone willing to listen. With the obsession with “Barbiercore” and a highly anticipated Barbie movie coming out July 31st, Teo Cabanel always seems to be in tune with the latest social trends. Positioning itself as a brand which is listening closely to their consumer Teo Cabanel Deja Vu  embodies the socioeconomic movement of now but also the much-needed ode for old glamour.

Notes: Bubble Gum, Citron, Raspberry, Iris, Jasmine sambac, Orange blossom, Imitation leather, white musk.

The bottle was kindly given to me, but opinions are always my own.

  • I think we all look for that something that reminds us of childhood and the long gone days when everything was simple… I really liked this part ‘It takes me back to the careless days of my childhood and bubble gum vending machines and on the dry does switches gears into something sensually classic, and stunning’
Thanks for the review and for the giveaway!

  • johnmadison says:

Thank you for the review, Olya!
I myself have very fond memories of the powdery scent of a new Barbie doll. I grew up with 4 sisters, and playing with their Barbie dolls is a very special, core memory for me and the scent is something that I find extremely nostalgic. I love how Deja Vu brought you back to that place and I could only imagine it would do the same for me.
This sounds like such a fun and playful fragrance and I can’t help but want to wear this around my sisters to see if they can be transported back to the days of playing with our Barbie’s.
I have not had the chance to get my nose off any of Teo Cabanel’s fragrances, but I sure would love to start with this one.
    Cheers.

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Olya for the review!
This definitely seems like a timely scent. Would love to see if it delivers on the airy, fantastic-plastic vibe described here.

  • minteacup says:

Speaking of memories, at least ten years ago I tried Etat Libre d’Orange’s Bendelirious perfume, and how both Henri Bendel boutiques have shut down and the perfume is long discontinued. I still think about that perfume! Teo Cabanel’s new fragrance shares some aspects of berry, cosmetic iris, and leather… I expect it to smell quite different with the bubble gum theme but honestly I am praying it gives me a real sense of “Deja Vu” with that scent memory! Teo Cabanel’s perfumes are a lot of fun, I really enjoyed the scent sampler bag and it’s hard to pick a fave. Alahine, Cafe Cabanel, Et Voila, Rendez-Vous… hmm… I’d be delighted to win this one. I’m in the US, thank you for the draw!

I like how Olya highlights the work of perfumer Patrice Revillard and his talent for creating interesting fragrances, particularly when working with iris notes. And it is nice to know that his previous work on L’Iris de Fath and Jacques Fath L’Iris de Fath L’Eau de Parfum literally showcase his expertise in crafting iris-centric scents.

Deja Vu, which is described as a playful and addictive bubble gum scent with a vintage lipstick sensuality catches my attention immediately. Olya`s review also evokes childhood memories of Barbie dolls and the nostalgic scent of bubble gum associated with them. I as Olya appreciate the scent’s ability to evoke emotions and memories, emphasizing the power of fragrance to create sensory experiences and capture moments.

I like this relevance of Teo Cabanel’s brand positioning, with references to the current trend of “Barbiercore” and the upcoming Barbie movie release. And it is wonderful that Teo Cabanel stays in tune with social trends while simultaneously paying homage to old glamour.

My favorite Teo Cabanel’s perfume also contains iris note, it is beautiful Oh La La.

  • I enjoyed how pleasent and beautiful and informative the review was. Two Cabanel sounds like a very intriguing brand. I don’t have a favorite from the house because I never tried any Teo Cabanel fragrances but I’m really keen on trying out Deja Vu. Even the name gives a feeling that it must be something unique. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • Omg! Olya made Deja Vu sound so nostalgic. I would love to try it! Hello from the USA!

  • I’ve been looking for my holy grail bubble gum fragrance. My fantasy fragrance has also been one that smells like plastic dolls. Maybe this one will scratch the itch for both? Always a pleasure to read, my dearest! And of course, your first Barbie would be Hollywood Hair! <3

I am Not a big Iris Fan but This is the First Iris scent that I could love, the Description of Deja vu sounds so perfectly and Reminds me of my youth. Teo Cabanel is will known to me but I don’t have actually a bettle of his creations at Home. I love Cafe cabanel. Thanks for the draw, I live in the EU.

  • Sweet childhood memories … My barbie doll was redheaded and her hair smelled like strawberries lipstick. Deja Vu would be a great fragrant partner in adult life, to cope with all this things that will never be the same as they were when we were kids.

The first thing in Olya’s review that reached a sensitive point for me was this comparison – It recalls a vintage lipstick scent with a soft powdery contrast of florals and berries lingering inside a leather minaudière bag.

Another favorite from this house is Oh La La! Sending love and big thanks for the chance.

    I live in Europe.

Notes: Bubble Gum, Citron, Raspberry, Iris, Jasmine sambac, Orange blossom, Imitation leather, white musk. I am intrigued by the notes especially iris, leather and jasmine Sambac. A beautiful and nostalgic piece by Olya definitely brings back memories for me as well. Thanks a million from the UK

iris is my favournote in perfumery, I’m dying to try this but unfortunately in Italy is still not available love the association with Barbie this brings me so much memories.

  • Nice review Olya! It is really big bold to take a new approach to Iris, but Teo Cabanel and Patrice Revillard succeeded! Mr. Revillard, after his wonderful re-creation of L’Iris de Fath, masters the root. Here in Deja Vu, the Iris gives us a vintage lipstick sensuality, buttery, vivid and ready to make an statement! As important is the juicy bubble gum accord in the opening: if there is a flavour instantly recognizable and bringing back a thousand memories is this, and as you say the power of scents to bring memories is infinite. Great work! My favorite Teo Cabanel is Je Ne Sais Quoi , a wonderful feel good fragrance around my beloved genmaicha tea! I live in Spain, EU.

  • Amazing review by Olya, as always. I like how she describes the perfume as a pop of juicy bubble gum, irresistible combo of floral, fruity, and musky notes with a touch of faux leather that make for an elegant and casual fragrance, playful and addictive.
My all-time favorite Teo Cabanel perfume is Café Cabanel.

Barbie was not so fancy when I was a child. I would have loved the hair mist. Barbie seems to be making a comeback, I saw something about a Barbie cafe on the computer yesterday. I love Iris, this sounds so good. We need some glamour to return. I’ve heard of this line, but not yet tested. I’m thinking positive that this will be my first opportunity. Thanks for the chance. Patrice Revillard? I’m wearing Datura Amaretti right now.
Other than that , and the reminder of how good of a perfumer he is , Olya’s take on Deja Vu made me think of one of the most popular kids birthday party cakes we make at the bakery for the past few years, the Bubble Gum Cakes. We do make at least 10 per week on private orders.
Making the Bubble Gum Cake , and later on bringing it myself to a kid birthday party , with a big iris bouquet is how I imagine Deja Vu .
Almond Coffee Cake with cup of cappuccino , and freshly squeezed juice is how Cafè Cabanel smells to me, my favorite Teo Cabanel

  • I enjoyed the bubble gum vending machine memories. This sounds fun. I am not familiar with any Teo Cabanel scent yet. Greetings from EU.

  • Trinity33 says:

You had me at Patrice Revillard! I was fortunate enough to try a sample of L’Iris de Fath and it is a beautiful composition featuring my favorite floral, iris. I’m not so sure about the bubble gum opening but the fruits, indolic florals, leather and musk sound like fun additions. The concurrent release with the Barbie movie brings up all sorts of nostalgic memories. MD, USA.

  • Nom de Guerre says:

So close, yet so far — never had the opportunity to a TC perfume, this would be my first. Fingers crossed and high hopes as L’Iris de Fath is supposed to be stunning. Thanks for the review Olya — nostalgic perfumes are something else, I hope this one would strike me the same 🙂 Greetings from Riga, Latvia.

  • Best part of the review is the unboxing of the Barbie doll. I sure do remember those smells from those dolls but not Barbie dolls but others like my Thundercats and GI Joe’s.

This sounds like a head turner. Thanks for the giveaway from the USA

  • Nikolina_84 says:

Oh, Barbie dolls and bubblegum, pink glasses, strawberries and cream, childhood and innocence… Seems so far away sometimes and I’d love to visit those memories once again.
As Olya says: “I used to love playing with these perfect dolls with long blonde hair, and that plasticky bubble gum smell hitting me when I would unbox my first-ever Barbie doll. Now so many years later, Deja Vu transported me to that moment almost instantly, putting a big smile on my face as I slowly inhaled its soft, powdery aroma.”

  • Thanks for the article Olya!

Iris has to be one of my all-time-favourite notes. To me it’s sensual and silky smooth. Whenever I want to spend time with my loved one I choose to wear an iris/orris fragrance.
This is also the reason I have many fond memories and know I will continue to create more beautiful memories.

I love sweet perfumes and this would be something both me and my partner would love to wear on our date nights!

    Greetings from the UK!

  • Patrícia Barão says:

I enjoyed the whole review, but what stood out the most are the wonderful notes that make up this perfume. ❤️

  • WaltherP99 says:

Olya is just great, one of my favorite reviewers ever , on top of also great personality. Nonetheless I’m not exactly on the same page with her about Deja Vu . What she wrote, is what I was actually expecting of the fragrance, but I got something else , for the most part at least.
The Hubba Bubba opening is big time pink , but at least on my skin it lasts around 5 minutes, and then the scent goes into completely different powdery iris, and leather Dior Homme…ish territory. I actually really like Deja Vu despite the surprising way it smells on me in the drydown.
My overall Teo Cabanel rating would be:
    1.Cafè Cabanel
    2.Barkhane
    3.Oh Là Là /Deja Vu
    All profiles I already follow , @waltherp99bg

  • Oh boy, Olya always delivers great reviews.
I have been a fan of Teo Cabanel since I tried OH LA LA, and it is my favorite one so far.
I think that Deja Vu is surely an amazing fragrance. I am eager to try it since it has an iris that is diferent, kind of vintage and reminds of lipstick. I also love that it has the Bubble Gum note, just amazing. I hope I win this one.

There are so many things I would like to say here… I am grateful to CaFleureBon for the opportunity to read about Teo Cabanel. I am very thankful to Olya for this warm-hearted review I can so relate too… The fusion of raspberry, orange blossom, powdery iris and leather is one of my favorite combos outside my ever beloved patchouli themed scents. I love the vintage lipsticky perfumes more and more with time and would dream of building a small collection within that genre. Feels like Deja Vu could work beautifully as a link between the eras. I am just back from one of my amazing trips but still looking for my lucky day of entering a niche perfume shop which happens to carry the brand. Thank you from Dublin, Republic of Ireland, EU

  • Olga’s review immediately had me imagining my childhood. I have distinct memories of the smell of my Barbie’s and smelly stickers that came with her accessories. This is what I remember even more than the actual doll! I was into fragrance since way back and the addition of a bubblegum note…YES! I don’t believe I have tried anything from Teo Cabanel but this sounds like a great place to start!

  • I love a good lipstick iris scent! Haven’t had the opportunity to try anything else from Teo Cabanel but this seems like a good place to start. I’m in MN, USA.

  • petergigov says:

Can’t say I’m young anymore, but my soul still is, and Deja Vu brings memories of the 80s, bubble gum vending machines, drive-in theaters and early Hip-hop culture. Can’t exactly explain why, but I started singing the Run-DMC cover of “Walk This Way” with Aerosmith of course…
Up until I read about Ca Boum on Cafleurebon, Teo Cabanel fragrances were unknown to me . Again Olya Bar was the contributor , and I decided to order a sample, I also ordered sample of the famous Cafe Cabanel. Ca Boum is good, but Cafe Cabanel is outstanding , and now I own a bottle.
    Exciting giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • I’m a fan of a few Teo Cabanel scents, and so far my faves are Alahine and Lace Garden. I love iris when it doesn’t smell like dirty carrots on me, so the vintage lipstick glam-and-bubblegum contrast is really lighting up on my radar. Olya did a fantastic job of highlighting childhood 90s memories describing this scent; the smell of a newly unboxed Barbie doll and bubblegum ball vending machines are definitely similar highlights in mine. I can’t wait to try this and enjoy the playful and the glamorous aspects. Thanks for the generous giveaway! I’m in the US.

    Hello!
Thanks for bringing back my childhood memories that seemed to be forgotten!
My friend had a Barbie with the magical hair mist! )))
I’m a big Iris note lover and just cannot let pass this new release! Iris and bubble gum – what a great inspiring combo to pull the trigger for another bottle! Even if I’m not lucky enough, i have to put my hands on this perfume!
Any favorite by Two Cabanel has been Oha! so far, an enchanting green rose. My bottle is almost empty, by the way)) I do recommend to test it to other rose lovers like me.
    Thanks for the giveaway!
    Greetings from Switzerland!

  • What a unique combination! When one thinks of bubblegum, tuberose automatically comes to mind. Here the bubble gum is paired with iris instead. I can only imagine a powdery, sweet, upbeat concoction with the two blended together! Olya managed to trigger nostalgia in me with the Barbie reference and the plastic doll smell, while also igniting my interest for such a unique, girly and playful fragrance.
    Commenting from the EU.

  • Olya Bar sent us to a 90’s expedition with Barbie, bubble gum, leather and lots of pink . Such fragrance can keep by years at bay , for a few hours at least.
Teo Cabanel original collection I’ve smelled, Les Expressions i have not. Oha , and Cafe Cabanel i can say are my favorites.
    Thanks for the draw

  • Nostalgia for me plays a large part when smelling fragrances that are inspired by retro memories or locations. Olya did an incredible job describing this in their review of deja vu. Very curious to see how bubble gum plays as a scent rather than a flavor. I haven’t had the chance to try Teo Cabanel’s creations so I’m unable to pick a favorite. From TX, USA

  • Teo Cabanel Deja Vu sounds like a blast to wear. The use of iris to create a plastic-smelling bubble gum smell is really clever, and the balance of citrus and raspberry against leather and musk sounds like just the right amount of complexity to highlight and reinforce that central accord. Whimsical nostalgia in a bottle.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any Teo Cabanel perfumes.

  • Hello from USA, this is just so nostalgic to me, I feel like the review embodies that feeling. I hope the fragrance does too. It sounds delicious.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Olya’s review of Teo Cabanel Deja Vu. I love the sweet fruity playful bubble gum vibe as Olya describes it gives you that 80’s and 90’s throwback vibes. It sounds wonderful. My favorite fragrance from Teo Cabanel is Cafe Cabanel. I am from the USA.

  • Beautiful well written review by Olya of *Teo Cabanel Deja Vu. What I enjoy from Olya’s review is the mention of how scents draw back memories even as far back as our childhood. Fragrance collect is also a never ending journey of memory collecting. Deja Vu is a great name. Thank you for this amazing giveaway. Greetings from the USA!

  • foreverscents says:

Oh, how I remember bubble gum vending machines as well as the smell of Barbie dolls. The raspberry and iris notes in Deja Vu sound both elegant and playful. I am very much in the mood for a jammy and bright fragrance. I haven’t tried any Teo Cabanel fragrances yet.

Sweet without being sticky , floral without being indolic , playful without being lustful, Deja Vu is perfectly balanced, happy fragrance.
I’m a big fan of Teo Cabanel Alahine , I started wearing the fragrance over 10 years ago, when the bottle was still crystal and transparent . Alahine bottle was changed a couple of times during the years, but the fragrance is still great , drydown is pure magic.

    Thanks for the writeup Olya.

This sounds like a really interesting set of scent memories bottled into a fragrance. I love the idea of capturing the olfactory signature of juicy and fruity bubble gum and playfully mixing it with iris, light florals and muskiness to transport one back to their childhood playing with dolls.

I’ve not had a chance to smell fragrances from this brand and I would certainly relish the opportunity.

    Cheers from WI, USA
