Chris Maurice, born Christian Carbonnel, is a master perfumer whose creations hit you like a familiar tune from your favorite classical composer. There’s something unmistakable about his style, like recognizing that melody from the first note that hits the air, as his perfumes are created with clear and precise tempo, they stand tall and resonate deeply – bold, vertical structures that are a testament to both his amazing technical skill and creative vision. The huge mass appeal his fragrances have on the public makes him one of the most imitated (but NEVER duplicated) noses of our time. When I think of juicy, bright fragrances that are fruity and fun, the first examples that come to mind are made by Chris Maurice – besides the all-time summer-popularity-queen Xerjoff Erba Pura, the golden juicy apples of Kajal Dahab, the new Xerjoff Erba Gold, the jammy La Capitale, Manos Gerakinis zesty fig-a-licious METHEXIS – to name but a few. His talents are put to great use in Sarah Baker Peach’s Revenge.

Buh-bye cherries, the summer of 2024 is all about peaches!
“Beneath the shade of a peach orchard, a handsome villain struts out trumpeting an exuberance of juicy fruit-peach, guava, nectarine and prune. The creaminess of vanilla and caramel build mouthwatering anticipation – like some salacious Peach Melba demanding to be eaten al fresco. Orris creates soft focus; a velvety fuzz under Renaissance skies. But the plot soon thickens. Childish naivete gives way to adult sensuality underscored by sensual musks heated by the scorching afternoon sun. Spices emerge-cardamom, ginger, cinnamon. Bark threatens to turn into wood: these amber daggers are hard. With one sip of amaretto, you’re reminded that even a sweet peach’s stone can be poisonous. When danger threatens you’ve got to be Machiavellian. Peach’s Revenge is a dish best spritzed cold, but not without the warmth of body heat.*

As the storytelling for Sarah Baker Peach’s Revenge has whet our appetites, allow me to dive in by reading you the menu of this mouthwatering delight. I don’t know if you have memories of Tang powder juice – not the healthiest option, sure, but it definitely colored many of my childhood summers during the transitional period after the iron curtain lifted in Eastern Europe. Tang promised a taste of the “Western” lifestyle, a far cry from a naturally ripe peach, but irresistibly delicious nonetheless. The opening spritz of this fragrance brings that same nostalgia, with peaches and nectarines that are so vividly bright they almost glow in fluorescent orange. It’s like watching the intro of Ren & Stimpy episode, bursting with hyperbolized, technicolor energy and a sense of playful chaos. I am addicted!

As a child, every detail is amplified, and once the memory lane has opened, in comes a whirlwind of my 90’s childhood throwback to simpler times, and the experience of an afternoon by the seaside at a holiday resort, a kaleidoscope of bright colors, tantalizing scents, all the details filled with explosive mouthwatering joy.
Next, imagine biting into an orange cream popsicle on a hot summer day, the kind with those iconic white and orange stripes that promise a burst of “EXOTIC” flavor that is to die for, quite literally. The initial taste is a creamy blend that melts into a sweet, tropical mix of guava and peaches, each bite more drippy and creamy, as the ice cream melts. The creamy base wraps around the vibrant fruit flavors, balancing the tangy sweetness with a smooth, silky-milky, luscious texture. But in this paradise, desserts are nothing short of magical, and if the hobbits wondered about a second breakfast, I have never once wondered about a second ice cream, on a hot summer day – so in comes the luxurious peach melba: juicy, ripe peaches, perfectly poached to retain their bright, sunny flavor, placed on top of a velvety homemade vanilla bourbon ice cream. And one must taste from the adult’s plate too – the posh baked nectarines, halved and baked to golden perfection, tender and succulent and even sweeter from the slow process of caramelization, dripping with juices and mixed with a decadent mixture of mascarpone cheese and amaretto, luxurious, rich, nutty and warm, with just a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on top for that delicate crunchy crust that contrasted with the soft and creamy filling.

Keeping it peachy all the way through its journey, somewhere along the line darker shadows grow around it, with sharp spices like cardamom and ginger. Bark first threatens, then turns to wood: and those amber daggers are hard, indeed! The curves elongate to pointy, sharp edges that still invite you to glide your finger across. But, as the saying goes “poke around and you will soon find out”. And Sarah Baker Peach’s Revenge keeps you sniffing, poking, craving, and coming back for more.
From the fuzz of the peach, to the fleshy softness of the skin-like-nectarines and from the tingling powdery tanginess to the creamy lush and silky curves – Sarah Baker Peach’s Revenge is the perfume equivalent of cute aggression* – it’s so ripe, so juicy, so delicious! In psychology, cute aggression refers to the urge to squeeze, crush, pinch, or even bite something we find incredibly adorable. This reaction isn’t driven by harmful intent – but rather, scientists believe it’s a way for us to handle overwhelming positive emotions.
In three words: juicy, spiced, salacious.
In one sound: excited high-pitched squeal.
Notes: peach, guava, nectarine, amaretto, orris, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, bark, amber, vanilla, caramel, musk – in extrait de parfum form.
