Charna Either of Providence Perfume Co. released Love- In- A- Mist last month, centering around a rare extraction of the flower of the same name. Choosing the name may have seemed simple enough, although there were plenty to choose from:

.. Hair of Venus by Anastasia Ri

This odd looking member of the buttercup family is also called: blue nigella, Damascus black cumin (although not to be confused black cumin, Nigella sativa), black caraway (although not related to Carum carvi), hair of Venus, lady in a bowler, devil in a bush, Our Lady In The Shade, love in a puzzle, love in a triangle, jack in prison, spider's legs, ragged lady, wild fennel (also not related to Foeniculum vulgare), bride in hair (from Renaissance use as bridal hair ornaments)– mostly all based on unique appearance of the flower and its subsequent seed pod.

The oil is a study itself, consisting of a very rich and sweet fruit/floral aroma with a honeyed amber quality, has traditionally been used in lipsticks and to create honeysuckle, gardenia and, of course, lilac. It can also be found in some chypre and musk accords.

Charna uses the rare extraction to create a flawless lilac aroma, heightened and expanded into the surrounding spring/summer surroundings with sweet clover and mimosa. Sandalwood anchors the composition and allows the lilac dream to eventually fade into a powdered, contented sigh.

While I, personally, am loathe to designate a perfume as gendered (i.e., feminine or masculine- for women or men), Love- In –A- Mist is classically feminine and could easily be a first perfume and a signature perfume for girls and women alike. (I am a guy and wore this with compliments galore). Love-In-A –Mist has excellent longevity and wears close to the skin

Notes: love-in-a-mist, mimosa, pink peppercorn, sandalwood, sweet clover.

Lilac. Ahhh….Lilac! Sounds wonderfuf and I love a good Lilac. From PP I really like Hindu Honeysuckle and Cocoa Tuberose! In the USA, many thanks!

  • Elizabeth T says:

Ooh, I love Cocoa Tuberose and Moss Gown from PPC! I also really need to try Branch & Vine…

That bottle is very covetable… and the perfume inside sounds perfect for spring. Spring florals were at one time and are now again some of my favorite kinds of perfume. I’m in the USA. Thank you for the review and the lovely draw!

  • fazalcheema says:

I would love to try Love in A Mist because it is based on a flower that I have never smelled or encountered in perfume before. my favorite Providence perfume is Tabac Citron. I am in the US

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Sounds great and after years of Unisex perfumes I would love to wear a more feminine scent – Mimosa sounds great to me.
Thanks for the draw, I live in the EU.

  • I may not have internet access when the winner is announced, but this sounds so pretty I can’t resist trying for it. Lilac and sweet clover and mimosa! Love-in-a-Mist is one of my favorite flower names, as well, although Love-Lies-Bleeding is more representative of my actual life. Moss Gown is the only Providence Perfume I’ve tried, although several others are on my list. I live in the US, but in California, nowhere near Providence.

  • echinacea says:

I love this flower. As a child, I was often picking them while on a walk with my grandma. I can’t remember their scent, I thought they don’t have any. I am thrilled that they do! I want to smell it! I hope they would smell of a sunny meadow where I had so happy time many years ago.
Thank you for the draw! I live in the EU.

  • I love discovering new lines of perfume, but even more, I love discovering new ingredients. Love In A Mist flowers? I never knew! Sounds like a lovely summer perfume, please enter me in the draw. Thank you, i live in Canada 🙂

  • Love in a Mist sounds beautiful and a new note to try! Mimosa, sandalwood, and pink pepper corn had me at hello and are notes that make you want to lean in. Thanks for the introduction Love in a Mist and thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • Very nice review. I would very like to try Love in A Mist, because I very like the notes, and from the review it sounds wonderful. I have never tried any of Providence Perfume Co. fragrance. Thank you for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • I have only tried one perfume from Providence Perfume Co. so I cannot have a favorite yet. I love all the flowers but lilac is a bit above all others. When I smell lilac, I’m a kid again, so naturally I would love to try Love in a Mist. USA

  • Lovely review and pictures. I would love to try this summery sounding perfume.
I have never heard of love in the mist flowers, they are pretty. I have never tried a fragrance from this line, would like too. Please enter me in draw. Thank you.

  • I actually have not tried anything from PPC yet. I need something feminine and flowery in my collection, and this sounds perfect. Plus Mimosa! Can I resist anything with mimosa? I live in the US, and thank you so much!

  • Lilac is one of my favourite scents, but I’ve never been able to find a lilac perfume that really sits right. Maybe that’s because they weren’t based on love-in-the-mist? It sounds like a truely magical flower! I’m also very into natural perfumery, so would really like to try this. I haven’t had the chance to try Providence’s line yet, but I hope to. I live in Canada, thank you.

  • Blue Nigellais an interesting and rare note that I would love to smell in a perfume composition and who doesn’t love lilacs! I’m in the US.

  • i have to be honest…I purchased Love in a Mist already and I’m halfway through my bottle! I love this fragrance and will soon need more. I have many of Charnas perfumes and none of them disappoint. Love in a Mist is now my new favorite.

  • I would be interested to try this perfume because I have some Nigella damascena absolute and find it rather bland, so would love to see what Charna has done with it. Of the Providence perfumes I’ve tried, I think Moss Gown is my favorite. I’m in the US.

  • What a lovely review of my Love-in-a-mist perfume! Thank you Einsof and Michelyn. Side note: can you imagine if I decided to call the perfume by the flower’s lesser known name of “Ragged Lady?” Picture me asking, “Who wants to try RAGGED LADY?” I wisely decided to go with the more romantic Love-in-a-mist. I appreciate that Einsof picked up on the lilac quality the perfume possesses, a very challenging accord as lilac cannot be distilled. Thank you for your support, and I’m so pleased with the review.

  • I’m sure I would like this one because I like all Charna’s creations. I love Divine, Moss Gown and Hindu Honeysuckle most of all. I would love to try this one. I am ini the USA. Thanks for the draw.

  • Florals are among my favorite scents, and Love in a Mist’s notes of lilac, clover, and mimosa sound like heaven. I would love to try this scent. I am in the US and don’t yet have a favorite fragrance from Providence Perfume Co. Here’s hoping this might be the first.

  • silvrolive says:

This sounds like a beautiful sweet summer perfume, and is not a floral that I have encountered before, so I would love to try it! My favorite perfume from Providence Perfume Co. scent is a tie between Provanilla and a perfume that I made during a perfume making class with Charna (I highly recommend her classes! She helped me understand how to build and blend a fragrance, and were very informative about natural perfumery). I live in Boston, not too far to visit Providence 🙂 Thanks for the draw!

  • This sounds like an exquisite feminine fragrance. I love how high quality and natural it sounds. I have not had the chance to try a Providence fragrance yet, but I will definitely have to in the near future. I am in Canada and thank you so much for the draw!

  • Diana Devlin says:

This sounds so lovely! It sounds feminine and delicate. I am not familiar with Providence Perfume Co. so I’ve never tried anything from their line. I’d be thrilled to win so I can be introduced to this perfume company!
    I live in the U.S.

  • Oh my goodness – why would i NOT want to try Love in a Mist – it sounds amazing – lilac, clover, mimosa, sandalwood. I have heard many good comments about this scent on the internet and i would love to sample it.
I have not had the opportunity to try any other Providence Perfumes as yet unfortunately. I am in the UK and thank you for the draw.

  • teresa310 says:

I love the photos, I hope the perfume is equally beautiful. Mimosa and sweet clover sound very elegant and feminine.I have not tried any Providence fragrance yet, but I think I will like them. Thank you for the draw!

  • I love the many names of Blue Nigella, they are so pretty and romantic. My favorite are “hair of Venus” and “bride in hair”. They will make a fabulous name for a perfume. I would like to win a bottle, because I don’t know the scent of this flower and I think it’s a very rare perfume note. I live in Europe.

  • Oh, this is my favorite shade of blue and the pictures make me think of a very romantic, old-fashioned powdery perfume, perhaps similar to forget-me-not scent, which I deeply love. I have to test it! Can I get the bottle, please? I never tested any perfume from this house. Looks like I live in the EU.

  • When reading about a perfume composition that is new to me, I try to imagine how all the notes would play together and which ones are going to be dominant, forming the character of the scent. My intuition says that this “very rich and sweet fruit/floral aroma with a honeyed amber quality, [that] has traditionally been used in lipsticks and to create honeysuckle, gardenia and, of course, lilac”, is more flowery than fruity and that it’s first of all sunny. I am a big fan of sunny, dry fragrances. Simply can’t wait to test this scent. It may be perfect for summer holiday. I am in the EU, never tried any Providence perfume yet.

  • Miss Almond says:

Mimosa is one of my favorite flowers. I am very curious if anything can beat wonderful L’Eau d’Azur from L’Occitane, very sensual and thick with flowery sweetness. Plus I love natural perfumes! I would be very happy to win this prize. EU here.

  • I love how feminine and beautiful it sounds! I haven’t tried a fragrance from this house. Hopefully this can be the first.

I’m a Canadian reader and thanks!
