NEW!!! ÇaFleureBon x 7Scents Leather Discovery Set

CaFleureBon x 7scents leather

The ÇaFleureBon x 7Scents Leather Discovery Set was curated by twelve of our editors from the boutique’s offerings

When our friends Ákos and Mark of 7Scents Perfumery in Budapest (Hungary) approached me earlier this Fall about doing a ÇaFleureBon Editors Leather discovery set curated box, I was all in. The weather was just beginning to turn cool and I noticed I was reaching for leather fragrances.

7Scents Boutique and Naomi Goodsir Event

Leather is a fantasy accord and can be elegant or broken in, sueded or tarry, sexual, provocative or soft and warm; it all depends on the perfumer and the ingredients used. There is a leather fragrance for everyone and our team of twelve editors at ÇaFleureBon chose seven from the 7Scent curated leather fragrance selection to wear during autumn and winter, “leather weather” in celebration of  the boutique’s s 2nd anniversary. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief, ÇaFleureBon

Cafleurebon x 7Scents leather fragrances Rubini Nuvolari, Rania J. Cuir Andalou, Gallager Fragrances Rose Noir, Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus, Papillon Anubis, The ZOO Club Design Hiram Green Hyde

ÇaFleureBon x 7Scents Leather favorites: Rubini Nuvolari, Rania J. Cuir Andalou, Gallager Fragrances Rose Noir, Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus, Papillon Anubis, The ZOO Club Design and Hiram Green Hyde

Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus: “Nuit de Bakélite is somewhat of an UPO, Unidentified Perfume Object. Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus is “another kind of composition”, REALLY interesting.” This is how Renaud Coutaudier, Naomi Goodsir’s Co-Creative Director, introduced Corpus Equus to Michelyn. This deeply animalic, smoky leather inspired by Naomi Goodsir’s white horse Tequila composed by the renowned perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour captures the designer’s memories of the leather saddle rubbing on her horse’s back, and the distinctive odor once the saddle is removed.  At times, Corpus Equus is velvety, almost tactile as if you are running your fingers on silky horse hair braided with roses. It is smooth and incredibly supple for such a complex leather, smelling of rose petals, incense, horse dung, gin and cigarette ashes. Perhaps Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus is its own UPO.” – selected by Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief and also chosen by Emmanuelle Varron, Sr. Editor and Paris Brand Ambassador

Hiram Green Hyde: Not since Santa Maria Novella created its iconic Peau d’Espagne in 1901 has there been a leather fragrance to equal Hiram Green Hyde. It possesses legendary longevity, is brash, swashbuckling and debonair – a noble beast. I’d like you to envision it as the marvelous Jean Marais in Cocteau’s iconic 1946 film, La Belle et La Bête (Beauty and the Beast). In Hiram Green’s Hyde what we smell is the perfumer’s art, the resurrection of olfactory memory extant since man first hunted and gathered. Hyde is scorched skins and honey-drenched, potent and intoxicating; a dashing perfume to be worn by the courageous.” – Deputy Editor and Natural Perfumery Editor Ida Meister and also selected by Hernando Courtright, Sr. Contributor and NYC brand ambassador

The Zoo Club Design: Leather is always a good idea, especially in the fall. Inspired by the sensual atmosphere of a lounge, The Zoo Club Design composed by multi-award winning perfumer Christophe Laudamiel is a soft blend of woods and musk and feels like there is sexuality woven throughout its entire structure. The leather note comes from a headspace analysis of new Spanish leather combined with the natural leathery smell of mimosa extracts. A sliver of bright blackcurrant accord and grapefruit brightens up the top of the fragrance.” –Olya Bar, Editor and also a favorite of Sr. Editor and UK brand ambassador Karl Topham.

Gallagher Fragrances Rosé Noir: Composed by recent Art and Olfaction Winner, American perfumer Daniel Gallagher delights us with an opening of apple crisp and plum, but the magic of the perfume is found in the leather that lurks underneath. Working with oud, the leather reveals its dark side for an effect that is both mysterious and exotic. Tonka bean conveys the warmer facets of the perfume, but the leather is what truly grounds this composition and grants it many hours of longevity. Gallagher Fragrances Rosé Noir is an exceptional leather perfume with all of the aromas we crave in the autumn and winter! –Steven Gavrielatos, Video Content Editor and YouTube channel Redolessence.

Cuir Andalou by Rania J: So autumn is here and you crave leather? Don’t think posh suede purses, nor glove leather delicate textures. Cuir Andalou by Rania J is a badass, biker jacket, get-better-with-age supple yet tough black leather, worn directly on the skin, with subtle wafts of violet and orris peeking through and deep oudish facets nodding to the Andalusian soul. –Nicoleta Tomsa, Sr. Editor

Rubini Nuvolari – Extrait de Course: Smell the adrenaline of the speed bending the forces of nature and get ready to bravely live this season with an invigorating leather fragrance like no other. Rubini Nuvolari – Extrait de Course, composed by perfumer Cristiano Canali, with its burst of windy pepper, Bulgarian rose and petrol give way to the aroma of majestic racing car leather interior. The woody dry down with smoky vetiver and Laotian oud makes this leather fragrance the champion of the race and bound to become as classic as a vintage Maserati.Ermano Picco, Editor and also selected by Lauryn Beer, Senior Editor

Anubis from Papillon Artisan: Sexy, smoldering Anubis from Papillon Artisan Perfumes is Liz Moores’ ode to the Egyptian god of the afterlife. This mysterious composition examines the darkest elements of leather amid plumes of frankincense and dark resins. I’d imagine this to be the scent of Indiana Jones’ satchel. –Michael Devine, Contributor and also chosen by Rachel Watson, Sr. Contributor

  • Why don’t they ship to the US. I would buy this in a second. My favorite of the 7 is Rania J Cuir Andalou.

  • Thanks so much for sharing this 🙂 I hadn’t heard of 7Scents before, but I am so excited to learn about a company that does themed sample sets!

  • I don’t have much leather in my collection. Now I know where to look to try out this note. Thanks for the info, I never knew where to start with leather. Don’t enter me, I’m U.S., just appreciating this info.

  • Awe, leather scents can be many things. Great choices by everyone! Is it possible to get a price to ship to the US?

Thank you for the amazing idea, top picks and the lovely descriptions of the scents in the collection. Hearing about a new perfumery in Budapest makes me want to book a flight *right now* and go back as I’d had some unforgettable olfactory experiences there right before the pandemic hit.
I am in the EU but looking at the other voices here, I can only hope there comes a moment when the US based CaFleureBon readers can purchase this exquisite set of leather masterpieces.
