Kajal Perfumes Kajal Eau de Parfum Review (Chris Maurice) 2014 + 10 Year Anniversary Giveaway

Kajal Eau de Parfum from Kajal Perfumes

Kajal Perfumes Kajal Eau de Parfum by Nicoleta

Kajal Perfumes, founded in 2013, is a project born out of one man’s passion for luxury fragrances. Moe Khalaf, the creative heart and brain behind the brand, with an impressive background in the luxury beauty industry, after having over a decade of experience with industry giants like Estée Lauder and L’Oréal, set out to create something unique. He envisioned a luxury brand that would be an ode to age-old traditions and cultural reverence while maintaining a modern and contemporary spirit. The name “kajal” is inspired by kohl, a natural product in Indian culture used to protect and beautify the eyes, with a deeper layer of meaning from the Arabic word “khajal,” capturing the virtues of humility, modesty, and respect for others.

Each fragrance blends inspiration and spiritual essence, while the packaging reflects a deep love for the timeless sacred beauty of geometric design. With a clear vision, a strong identity, and in-depth knowledge of the perfumery market, Kajal has achieved well-deserved success, recently winning the prestigious Art and Olfaction Awards  2024 Independent Category for Kajal IV by Kevin Mathys.

Moe Khalaf has collaborated with some of the best perfumers of our decade, including Chris Maurice, Rosendo Mateu, Alix Miral, Valérie Garnuch-Mentzel, Mark Buxton, Rania Jouaneh, and rising star Kevin Mathys. And it all began with Kajal Eau de Parfum, created by Chris Maurice – the first perfume launched by Kajal Perfumes exactly ten years ago.

“Eyes that seek beauty in all that they behold,
Cast light upon the overlooked splendor surrounding us,
Transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Veiled in understated allure and seductive whispers, Kajal draws inspiration from ‘Khajal’, an Arabic term signifying modesty and self-awareness, highly esteemed across Arab cultures for its profound respectfulness. By welcoming others with respect, regardless of their journey, we reflect our own integrity and acknowledge the inherent dignity that exists in every soul. The essence of our true spirit is often illuminated by the magnetic allure of our eyes. Captivatingly beautiful, eyes that radiate kindness, sincerity, and compassion highlight the luminous purity of a virtuous heart.”

Kajal Eau de Parfum is the definition of a clean, fresh my skin-but-better scent. Opening up with mouthwatering notes of Amalfi lemon, mandarin, and bergamot – it awakens, refreshes, and cleanses the mood. From the start, it has an unusual blend of strength mixed in with a special ethereal quality – and the crisp texture of the first moments feels both invigorating and smoothly serene.

In the heart of Kajal Eau de Parfum, a poised and powdery take on the red petals of Turkish Rose takes center stage. These graceful, velvety blooms blend seamlessly with the luxurious softness of orris, creating a lush and captivating floral bouquet that feels both grounded – classic and contemporary-ly imponderable.

Imagine the luxurious sensation of just-out-of-the-shower warm skin wrapped in a rich, cooling purple silk veil  – just sheer femininity and sensual abandon. The fragrance’s beautiful purple hue perfectly matches its mood, exuding calm and a mystical sense of deep relaxation.

Every time I see Chris Maurice’s name on a bottle, I know the scent will be amazing. Such a prolific and very busy perfumer that has given us some of the most iconic fragrances in our lifetime. I didn’t know he had made this Kajal reference 10 years ago! I love musky and skin scents especially in hot days where you don’t want to wear anything overpowering. Nicoleta also hit it for me as I also believe this can be worn all year round as it’s super versatile and with agreeable notes. Let’s hope for many more years of Moe and Kajal giving us iconic fragrances and winning many more awards. Cheers from the US.

  • Love the parfumer Chris Maurice. Congratulations on 10yrs. Im a big fan of this fragrance house. So much goes into a fragrance and the bottles. These notes are beautiful. Love that it can be wore year round. Thank you for this wonderful chance USA

  • You had me at “ fresh, my skin, but better”! I must get my nose on this. A refreshing, crisp scent is what I need to beat this summer heat wave.

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, this clean and at the same time sensual perfume, from the description it is like wearing an elegant and light silk dress, timeless, citrus fruits and a flowery heart of Turkish rose and iris, and a comforting woody base.
For me Kajal Kajal is wonderful, unfortunately I don’t have anything from this brand.

  • Congratulations on 10 Years Anniversary!! Nicoleta Tomsa’s reviews are always so wonderful 🙂 and this one is no exception, that it got me so curious about this purple scent, I must say that I am very curious also for the fact that this fragrance is created by this master perfumer that created a lot of beautiful perfumes that I love so much. 🙂 Thank you very much for this wonderful chance! • I have head of kajal and had no idea it was a my skin but better sort of fragrance. But the notes sound sublime. In maryland.

  • wallygator88 says:

    Thanks for the lovely review.

I really love the name and the idea behind this brand. Like properly applied kajal/kohl, their fragrances create an effect of mysterious beauty, inviting one to partake and reflect.

I really enjoyed the notes on this scent – powdery, clean, quiet but at the same time powerful.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I love Chris Maurice’s work. He’s without a doubt in my top 3 perfumers, so I am more than intrigued to try this one. I tend to flock to his ambers and ouds, as I think he is a master of those types of fragrances, so I was excited to see Nicoleta describe this as a powdery amber. I think the florals blended with vanilla and tonka will create a soft and cozy profile. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • Congrats Moe Khalaf and Kajal Perfumes! Kajal reminds me of the thick black liner I used to line my eyes in Morocco – so the focus on the eyes seems fitting! Loved reading about the description and background of this scent.

Congrats on 10 years, Moe! While I own quite a few of Kajal’s creations, I do not have the OG. The notes in this one sound absolutely perfect for this time of the season 🙂

Congrats on 10 years! I love the meaning behind the brands name “capturing the virtues of humility, modesty, and respect for others”. I’ve heard of Kajal but have not tried anything from this house.

This fragrance and house comes across as very mature and in tune with what the people want from a fragrance.

The presentation is beautiful and I look forward to trying something from Kajal whether I win this giveaway or not.

  • I never tried anything from Kajal, but I hope I will break the ice with this one. I really like the bottle and I think it would make a great center piece of any collection. Thanks!

  • Congratulations on 10 years! Quite an accomplishment at what can be a fickle business. The variety of citrus and the voluptuousness of the Turkish rose has my interest. Kajal always produces such quality scents. MD, USA

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

I love reading success stories of passionate people, such as Moe Khalaf and his brand.
I also love thoughtfulness and attention to detail, and Kajal seems to be the perfect embodiment of both.
I love (so much love, right? ) the colour – it makes me think of something cool and serene, but somehow I think it’s a bit more complicated than that.
    I’m in EU.

  • Finally a fragrance that doesn’t scream at one! “A powdery ambery scent that retains a refreshing quality all throughout its light fabric…” This is what made me enter the giveaway. Nicoleta’ s reviews always rushing me to the closest perfume store to try the fragrance.

  • roxhas1cat says:

That is an impressive list of the perfumers who collaborated. I love the purple juice in the bottle! I have not smelled anything from this line before, but I’d love to accept the invitation to the finer things of life. The notes sounds amazing and there is that orris!! Gorgeous artwork to go with the piece. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Roshan Mathew says:

I have a special place in my heart for rose and Orris. And this one sounds divine. I am in the US

  • Nice introduction to the Kajal brand and Chris Maurice’s impressive first fragrance in the lineup. I love how Khajal is translated here through a citrus and floral painted skin scent. The Turkish Rose and orris sound particularly lovely in this style, worn close to the body, along with that creamy “purple” base. Plus—love the presentation. Congrats to Moe and his team!

    I’m in the USA.

I always look forward to Nicoleta’s insights. They come wrapped in poetry, and besides making me wanna rush to buy the perfumes she describes they also make me read more from those poets.

  • This sounds lovely and I’m always up for s rose orris fragrance. I would love to try this Kajal. I’ve only tried one other and it was years ago. I’m due! I’m in the U.S. thank you for the opportunity.

Congratulations to Kajal Perfumes for 10 years of producing wonderful fragrances. Kajal Eau de Parfum has many wonderful notes, both refreshing and velvety. I like how Nicoleta wrote that the fragrance has an ethereal purple embrace. Her photos evoked that purple mood. So beautiful.

  • David Furman says:

That big bold Turkish rose is always a pleasure. I’m so used to it being paired with oud but this is a welcomed break from the norm. That airy, rich, and soapy scent is lovely and with the orris in the mid makes this beauty sought after. The opening sounds citric and fresh but to me it’s all about the mid. I have no experience with Kajal but have heard nothing but great things from this house and for them to be doing so well ten years in the making is a testament to their success. Would love to win, from Jacksonville, NC.

  • Kajal is one of the niche houses I am just starting to really get into. I started off the beast that is Lamar and it has not disappointed and now I want more. Nicoleta mentions the base notes of Kajal Eau de Parfum, envelop you in a warm, sensual embrace of musk, amber, tonka, and vanilla, with a hint of creamy Mysore sandalwood. These are notes that I enjoy a lot so I need to add this the collection.
