Patience and hope, never fade with time,
Despite the darkness and pressure, we must endure.” A note from Kajal on MASA

Masa is the Arabic name for a singular diamond. I asked the nose for Kajal’s new perfume, 2x Fragrance Foundation Russia award winning perfumer Marc Daniel Heimgartner of LUZI about his creative process-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

“Expanding the ideas, the vision and the emotions for KAJAL MASA took place at the two fairs ESXENCE  2022 and PITTI in 2022 was significant for our collaboration. There is a specific KAJAL signature and I wanted to develop a multifaceted glowing blend; like a perfectly cut single diamond shining in the light.

The fragrance contains a sparkling fresh ginger effect harmonized with bergamot and cardamom, Provence herbs, petitgrain (herbaceous effect from the leaves of the bitter orange tree) and a magnificent transparent aquatic accord.  I used a rare Micro Distilled Patchouli with a long lasting ambery woody (Moroccan Atlas Cedar, vetiver and guaiac) and musky undertone.”

Kajal MASA Top Notes: Grapefruit, Mirabelle (a yellow plum accord), Ginger and Bergamot; Middle: Cardamom, Patchouli, Watery Notes and Petitgrain; Base: Vetiver, Amber, Vanilla, Atlas Cedar, Guaiac Wood and Violet

  • I was happy to hear Mr. Heimgartner mention ginger and cardamom together. I love that combo because of the zip and zing they provide. He also talked about the transparent aquatic accord and Provence herbs, which I imagine make this very fresh and perfect for summer. Steven spoke quite a bit about the mirabelle note, which is something I don’t believe I have experienced in a fragrance before. His description made it sound like it offered a lovely watery feel but without being a typical aquatic. I also find it interesting that is has a touch of vanilla. Overall, Masa sounds like an exceptional and unique fragrance. And, while the juice is what matters, can we take a minute to talk about that bottle? I love Kajal bottles anyway, but that green is just so stunning! Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • The fact that it has a sparkling fresh ginger effect really captivates me. It’s amazing that it has a oceanic component in it, that just sounds like something refreshing. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

You can always count on grapefruit to add a blast of fresh-ness to any fragrance. A watery essence fragrance is not anything I own so it’s peaking my interest quite a bit. I am not too familiar with Kajal fragrances but the bottle is indeed beautiful. Fruity, green, earthy and with vanilla are some of my favorite go to when it comes to fragrances. Cheers from NJ, USA.

  • I must say, ginger is really popping up in a lot of blends as of late, and I am most definitely here for it! As the perfumer Heimgartner stated, “ I wanted to develop a multifaceted glowing blend; like a perfectly cut single diamond shining in the light.” And I think he’s achieved it with the break down of notes!

I’m a sucker for Steven’s breakdowns so it makes me l hopeful that I can experience this Amber-spicy-green earthy fragrance!

  • Mirabelle? What is that? Interesting…Also, Steven described a perfect summer scent. On point with my taste. Would love to win this. I live in London, UK.

  • I liked that Masa’s described as a shining diamond. Steven mentioned the note of mirabelle which sounds unique. Grapefruit, earthy and watery notes makes it sound perfect for summer. Thanks for another wonderful review and draw. Mich USA

Just on reading the note from the brand on this particular creation, I was captivated. Patience and hope versus darkness and pressure – this resonates with me deeply. Singular diamond sounds noble and unapologetic. Thank you Michelyn. I am grateful to be acquainted with a new (to me) and already recognized name in the perfume universe. Reflecting the idea of a perfectly cut single diamond shining in the light in a fragrance is bound to be a proper challenge so I applaud Mr Heimgartner for taking it. I love the bright tart quality in the opening of perfumes which then take on more earthy, woody and ambery character. I love patchouli so the rare multifaceted Micro Distilled Patchouli appeals to me a lot. The oceanic component and the mirabelle make the composition unique and mysterious in my perception. The mirabelle – vanilla duo further adds to the charm, and the addition of vetiver is always good for keeping the balance between fruity/ sweet and woody/ earthy. I like that Steven points to the versatility of Masa – major plus for that. After his review I am totally sold on the fragrance. Will dream of the emerald green bottle :). Thank you from Dublin, Republic of Ireland, EU

  • Gorgeous bottle from Kajal as usual. Steven seemed to really like this one. I love greenish fragrances with ginger in them. I need to at least sample this one at some point.

I’ve purchased 3 of Kajal Fragrances
    1. Lamar
    2. Faris
    3. Dahab……..ALL HEAVY HITTERS.
    4. WILL BE ” MASA” after I win the drawing.

You had me at the name and the bottle design………But fruity and green makes it all the more interesting for me, Ive watched Steven Gavrielatos review and it was an excellent review, but I think I was so captivated by the green shiny bottle like a kid with a new toy that I really didn’t pay much attention to what he was saying because I was daydreaming about the juice being sprayed on me…” MY PRECIOUS”……lol

  • I’m actually wearing Lamar today, which is the only one I own from the brand so far. I am just getting into grapefruit scents and one thing about Kajal, they put their uniqueness on a note, so I am very excited to smell this one. Steven mentioned how versatile this is which goes along with Marc Daniel Heimgartner‘s sentiments of “developing a multifaceted glowing blend”..

I would love to try Masa, the notes sound very interesting and unique, Hope I would win this.. thank you

  • Both explained how there was a fresh opening from the ginger, mirabelle and grapefruit. The grapefruit gives it sparkle along with the fruitiness from the maribelle and a shuttle vanilla component. Underneath is a bit of darkness from the cedar. Both explained it’s a very versatile fragrance and would be a good signature scent. I line in NYC USA.

  • Wonderful fragrance house. Love the notes. Perfect for Summertime. The bottle is stunning. Steven seem to enjoy this one great review.Thank you for this Chance USA

  • The bottle design looks great. Everyone sees the alien right? The notes sound interesting and smelling a ‘rare’ patchouli would be fun as it’s one of my favorite notes. Steven’s video concisely describing the fragrance is always appreciated. US-California. Thanks.

  • I would love to be entered in a giveaway. Ginger, patchouli, vanilla, love the sound of notes. I own lamar and very happy with it, Stevens reviews is amazing as always. Thanks.

Steven reviews always meticulous and described the versatility and longevity just adds something special to the overall facets fruity and oceanic vibes. The notes sound great especially Patchouli, Amber and Vanilla. Thanks a million from the UK

  • I think this is the first time i see the Mirabelle note in a perfume and i can’t wait to smell it. Also, Steven said that this is a good summer scent and i love a good versatile scent. I hope i’ll put my nose on it soon!

  • I love how this perfume was created around the idea of a singular diamond – diamonds are renowned for their uniqueness as much as they are for their astonishing beauty.
This fragrance embodies the luminosity of the diamond through a perfect balance of sparkling fresh ginger harmonized with bergamot and cardamom, Provence herbs, petitgrain and aquatic accord.
I’m drawn to it because, as Steven says, it’s incredibly versatile & long lasting and that’s important to me when choosing my fragrances.

I loved how Mr. Heimgartner explained the thought behind this fragrance, a single diamond so perfectly polished, to reflect light through a multitude of facets.
Both Steven and the perfumer mention the freshness and crystalline construction of Masa, and the blend of grapefruit with fruity / mirabel notes, vetiver and vanilla sounds absolutely fantastic for hot summer days and not only.

Masa is the Arabic name for a singular diamond. I asked the nose for Kajal’s new perfume, 2x Fragrance Foundation Russia award winning perfumer Marc Daniel Heimgartner of LUZI about his creative process-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief. A wonderful description by Michelyn and the fact that Steven described this a unique fragrance really caught my attention. The versatility and longevity were also an added bonus. The bottle design is just gorgeous and presentation just adds decadence and prestige. I am loving the notes especially Patchouli added woody ambery undertones to this fragrance. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

I consider Masa to be a strong addition to anyone’s spring-summer collection. I love the notes – vanilla, ginger, vetiver, grapefruit – and I feel that wearing Masa will be like a breath of fresh air.

Kajal always is doing a great job with they fragrance, The bottles are a really collectible item that you need in your possession.
Thank you Steven and Cafleurebon you guys always bring us the best of best.

  • From Marc I got an idea on why the name Masa. From the video I learned of the grapefruit effervescent aspect. US

  • Stas Bryant says:

I really enjoyed what the perfumer puts into his craft not just with this particular fragrance but others too especially with the choice of ingredients. Extending from that steven always gives a perfect well articulated review of these fragrances that really give people an idea of what to expect. I am down in the south florida region so this would make a great addition to my collection.

  • I was not really aware that Kajal has a signature DNA as I’ve only tried Lamar. This brand really seemed to blow up in frag comm but I have not got into it much yet. I really like the presentation as you can see in Steven’s video. So seems like this is fruity, green, bright and vanilla. Sounds like a versatile year rounder.

Thank you for the introduction, Marc Daniel Heimgartner! And thank you for the great video, Steven!
I am so curious of the rare Micro Distilled Patchouli that Marc mentioned and sounds like it would blend beautifully with the other notes.
As Steven states that fresh, bright, fruity opening it exactly what I look for when first applying a fragrance in Summer. The aquatic and oceanic components sounds like an amazing watery heart paired with the lovely blend of effervescent grapefruit. That sweetness from the vanilla in the dry down sounds like a really nice finish. The cardamom and vetiver sound like it really balances out the brightness of this perfume.
Very versatile and wearable. And wow, what a stunning bottle!

MASA sounds really good very much a refined fragrance, with some playful plum sweetness that’s not artificial – something important , fresh ginger, grapefruit, marine accords and vanilla.
I tend to believe MASA will suit me well .The quantity of the perfume is there , and I can’t stop admiring the designer’s work , Kajal hired someone very talented , astonishing work .
I’ve sampled Kajal Homme II , and Dahab .Homme II is dressed up fragrance, and Dahab sweet juicy gourmand done really well . Smells natural to me, with nothing artificial in it

  • Great review by the one and only Steven, aka Redolessence. I also loved Marc Daniel’s introduction.
I love how the perfumer wanted to create a multifaceted glowing blend. MASA surely is something aamazing.
Kajal has not let me down with any of their fragrances, they are all great fragrances.
I also liked how Steven described the perfume as interesting with the vetyver, the ginger, the green notes, the oceanic notes and the petit grain. Would love to win this one.

  • Lots of herbs and spices blended with citrus and a woody green patchouli base. The transparent aquatic accord is unexpected and I would be interested to see how it blends with the earthier notes. I appreciate Steven’s discussion of the versatility of the fragrance. I’m in the US

  • Giovannip says:

I love that Marc Daniel Heimgatner really went in deep and gave a lot of detail about the notes. Steven’s review let me know that this a long lasting Fragrance that will work in summer and winter; he did a great job explaining the Fragrance in his opinion and the notes.

This is a beautiful note from Kajal on MASA; “Patience and hope, never fade with time,
Despite the darkness and pressure, we must endure.”
Thank you Steven for another amazing review. I like the “zesty but not overly tart, oceanic, watery, gently spiced” aspect of Masa.
    Hugs from Croatia, EU.

  • Steven talks about a fruitiness and I am very curious what it would smell like, as if this comes from Mirabelle, I have not smelled this ever.
Marc has me at the sparkling ginger, I like a good ginger note in perfume. The rest of the notes make this a good perfume for this weather.

  • I never tried any Kajal, but I always loved their bottles. That symmetrical geometry has something interesting about it, visual perfection, and I am sure that they it be the center of attention in one’s collection. I am wondering how is the juice inside, if it matches the beautiful bottle or if it’s better!?
    Thank you

  • Half classy and refined, and half playful and maybe even slightly lustful , i think I can make a statement wearing MASA
I like the , the citruses, and the tart and mildly sweet fruity base , the oceanic and the woody feel , sophisticated fragrance at its best.
No wonder MASA means a diamond in Arabic , uncommon inspiration for a fragrance. Thank for the information Michelyn ♀️
I know Joorie, because my sister in law wears it regularly, but it’s the only Kajal scent I know. High quality spicy sweet rose ,with honey , I like it a lot.

Great introduction from Heimgartner and awesome video from Steven, as expected of him. Ginger is such a lovely, invigorating note, and I would like to find out myself how it blends and feels with the other notes in this fragrance. I am from Sweden, EU.

  • Ginger has become one of my favorite fresh and uplifting notes recently. I’ve seen cardamom and ginger being used in sweet fragrances, so I’m interested in seeing how they work in a fresh. Steven mentions the effects of mirabelle at different stages of the drydown, which makes me curious. I’ interested in the contrast between the watery mirabelle and also the sweeter side when it combines with the vanilla. I live in Illinois USA.

  • Interesting thoughts from Marc Daniel Heimgartner about Kajal MASA. It sounds like he put a lot of thought into the quality of the materials used to capture this “singular diamond.” I’m most intrigued by the micro-distilled patchouli and fresh ginger accord in the top notes.

Steven’s video called my attention to the fruity notes in MASA, which Heimgartner didn’t highlight. I’m not familiar with mirabelle and I don’t think I’ve worn a perfume that features it. The earthy green textures Steven highlighted also caught my attention. The bottle looks incredible too.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway—I’d love to try this one.

  • Thanks for this wonderful article.

I saw Masa appearing on my social feeds and was waiting for CaFleureBon to give an in-depth review if this new highly anticipated perfume!

I have been a long-time fan of Homme and Homme II and any new release is always a exciting moment! It’s Marc’s usage of a rare Micro Distilled Patchouli that really caught my interest.

Steven’s reviews are always incredibly in-depth and leaves me with a feeling that I understand what to expect and in what situation this would work well. A recommendation of him is nearly always a hit for me so I look forward to trying this!

Mirroring the idea of a perfectly cut single diamond shining bright in a fragrance is bound to be an exquisite result of wich I’m curoius to test. The green of the bottle promises a cool herbal aquaeous blend, with a citrus rind bitterness, although I’m sure it has more facets, diamond style.

  • It’s almost like MASA was made for me. When I read about Marc Daniel Heimgartner speaking of the “specific KAJAL signature” and “magnificent transparent aquatic accord” i felt like MASA is less sweeter, marine continuation of my two favorites from Kajal, Dahab and Lamar.
Steven take on the fragrance, together with Marc Daniel Heimgartner introducing MASA made me think of being on the beach in Valencia, Spain , and eating Mirabelle Ginger Cake , with almonds and cardamom. The whole picture, the cake and the breeze from the ocean is how believe MASA will smell.
Appreciate the review, Marc Daniel Heimgartner intro , and the giveaway campaign

  • Excellent review by Steven of Kajal Masal. His thoughts on this fragrance is amazing as he explains the opening being bright, oceanic and green component. The fruity, vanilla, green, earthy watery and versatile scent and * Marc Meimgartner mentioning ginger and cardamom. Thanks for the amazing giveaway.
    I live in the USA.

  • Thanks michelyn and Steven for a great review of kajal Masa with mirabelle which was explained as plum.
My favorite is Joorie second is Lamar
Enjoyed the point of view of the perfumer

  • WaltherP99 says:

I love how Kajal brand is getting more and more traction last few years , still I believe more people need to know their fragrances , imo they are on pair with brands like Roja Dove and Xerjoff. Steven do have a point when he said you can find Kajal in select boutiques and high end department stores only , more exposure would be great.
I know all Kajal fragrances , and it’s not easy, but if I have to rate my favorite ones
    1.Lamar/Almaz
    2.Dahab
    3.Kajal Homme/MASA
My opinion of MASA is similar, but not exactly the same compared to what Steven is getting . The grapefruit opening is so nice, then the fragrance quickly goes into herbal, heavy on the rosemary aromatic territory , with some pleasant marine accords. Since I was not aware of “Provence herbs” term Marc Daniel Heimgartner used, I had to Google it out of curiosity, and according to the most sources it’s

“Herbes de Provence is an aromatic mixture of dried Provençal herbs and spices, which traditionally includes thyme, basil, rosemary, tarragon, savory, marjoram, oregano, and bay leaf.”

I was right , since i get hefty dose of rosemary in MASA . In the heart also get fresh , slightly peppery rose . In the drydown the fragrance goes into ambery vanilla territory, with some woody nuances. Personally plum and ginger I don’t get.
MASA is so beautiful, and versatile , like most Kajal fragrances also quite loud.
All profiles I already follow, @waltherp99bg . I also follow @eaudemoe , Moe Khalaf side project , and designer Omar Ayoub , the genius behind Kajal bottle design
    Thanks a lot

I loved Steven’s video review and the perfumer Marc Daniel Heimgartner introduction in learning more about the creative process behind the fragrance. Masa which means perfectly single cut diamond in Arabic with the beautiful and intricate styled bottle presentation with the diamond design. The sparling ginger and zesty grapefruit opening with that unique Mirabelle fruity note, green cardamom and vetiver, aquatic touches, and a sweet vanillic drydown…this sounds truly divine. I know I would really love and appreciate this fragrance. I am from the USA.

    Greetings everyone

-Masa is the Arabic name for a singular diamond-

Masa as a name in Arabic is given to girls only , and it means diamond,to shine .
The correct term is solitaire diamond, it comes from the Latin -Solus- , meaning alone or sole.
A diamond solitaire ring refers to a single diamond ring.
Jewelers terms often confuse people, because we throw solitaire and diamond in similar contexts, but the two actually have distinct meanings.
Solitaire = gemstone setting, i.e. a single piece mounted on a piece of jewelry
    Diamond = type of gemstone.
A solitaire diamond = single diamond gemstone set into a ring , necklace and so on , typically heavier in carat weight than diamonds set in different fashions on other rings. A solitaire setting can include a diamond, but not every diamond is a solitaire. I hope I cleared things up for you .
Out of Kajal perfumes I’m familiar with Almaz and Dahab
I’m interested in MASA because of its name , and solitaire diamond reference first , I’m a jeweler. I’m also looking for the unique aquatic accord , ginger , and vanilla Mr Heimgartner and Mr Gavrielatos spoke about .
MASA is also very much versatile fragrance , perfect for current Paris weather.
Thank you , American living in Paris France
