Recently Editor Sebastian Jara met with Roja Dove in London and had the opportunity to interview him for CaFleureBon. This was their first time meeting and for his interview with Roja Dove of Roja Dove Parfums, Sebastian met with Roja at the Roja Parfums boutique at the Burlington Arcade. Poignantly, he met with Roja on January 8th,  2019 which was the 10th anniversary of Roja’s beloved mother’s passing. In this enlightening interview with Roja Dove of Roja Parfums, Mr. Dove discusses his favorite ingredients (leather), classifications (chypre), his creative process (he would like to be remembered for Diaghilev),  the pride he takes in his Roja Parfums Great Britain and that  in fact Roja Parfums is an independently owned British perfumery. For all that he learned about Roja Dove, what come across in this interview is Mr. Dove’s passion for the art of perfumery and his wide depth of knowledge A true modern renaissance man .  –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

  • I enjoyed the candid conversation and Mr. Dove sharing about his mother. Thank you! I’m in USA.

  • batandcamel says:

My favorite part of the video was when Sebastian was able to detect the violet note. That shows how good his nose is! I didn’t know Roja wore the same fragrance every day!

  • That was really kind of Mr. Dove to take time to answer some questions. It wasn’t a rushed interview and he genuinely seemed to enjoy chatting with Sebastian. I have never smelled a Roja fragrance but I’m hoping to one day. Also, the violet jacket… 🙂

  • I loved this interview. The most interesting part is where Mr. Dove says that he only wears one perfum that he creates every year for his birthday.

  • I enjoyed the interview because it appeared natural and free flowing, neither Sebastian or Roja looked uncomfortable. The fact that Roja shared that a friend pushed him to do his own thing, kudos to her! It takes a lot of gumption to start your own business and you have to have a strong support system, which obviously he does. To have 300 stores in 50 countries is absolutely an incredible success story!

  • Absolutely genuine and sincere video Sebastian, what a great job!!!! Master Roja just assured what I think, to me The Best Leather ever created is GREAT BRITAIN !!!!
My question for Master Roja Dove is When He can make a US Tour? Cities like Miami, San Francisco, California, or Texas will wait for you

  • Sebastian’s interview was smooth. I learned that violets have a special meaning to Mr. Dove. Thanks for another fabulous draw! USA

I really enjoy getting to meet the perfumers through your interviews Sebastian! I find that longer interviews with personal questions or anything that’s a peak into their thought process helps me enjoy their fragrances more. I also like watching roja spray so many pumps of juice onto those cards. Lol. I am learned that his favorite style of perfume is chypre and that they don’t sell very well in the market. Shock to me as I am a huge fan of the style. Thanks for the video!

I always enjoy Roja interviews because he has a really eloquent way of speaking and he carries himself with such class. It’s almost hypnotizing watching his interviews. This particular one though, I enjoyed watching him actually go and have Sebastian smell some of his fragrances and explain a little bit about each one, such as the story behind his Haute Lux. I think if I ever get my nose on that fragrance I will have a much greater appreciation for it knowing the story and sentiment behind it. Something I learned was the difference between Oud vs Aoud thing. I had no idea it was a Western vs Middle Eastern pronunciation thing. I always wondered why some fragrances have Aoud in the name instead of just Oud, knowing they both referred to the same thing.

  • I enjoyed the interview very much. I learned so many things behind the scent , different meanings, some personal. Lily is his Favorite color.
The caps with the lily color has a personal story behind them. Sebastian did another great Interview as always making me feel.like a was there in person. His favorite is Chypre . Love the story of him making Great Britain. He also wears only his fragrance. What touched me most the story of his mom wanted to try to get that in a fragrance and he did . Thank you Sebastian as always a lovely Interview.

  • What an epic interview! Can’t get any more perfect than this! Thank you for the video, Sebastian! When you get to know the passion behind each creation, it adds the most important ‘note’ to the perfume 🙂

  • Interesting to know Roja takes special pride on Diaghilev and Vetiver Pour Homme.

This sole fact makes these two masterpieces a “must” in all perfume enthusiast collection.

Great interview and thanks for sharing.

    Parabens Sebastian and Roja!

Great interview and thanks for sharing.

    Parabens Sebastian and Roja!

  • This was a very great interview, Mr, Dove was very nice and interesting answers to your questions, very nice man. I think its wonderful that he makes a fragrance every year on his birthday and that he created Vetiver for his partner. He puts so much thought into his fragrance creations, and I loved the idea behind the notes of the Great Britain and A Goodnight Kiss fragrances, and I have to sample Sweet Aoud! I live in the USA!

  • To be able to meet with Roja and have him explaining his fragrances in person is an absolute dream, amazing! I had always wondered why the cpas had different colored gems or how the colors were chosen. It was great to find out that the violet caps represent personal experiences to Roja. Great video!

  • I love Mr.Dove’s passion, and deep thought that he puts into each fragrance. I have always thought they have some of the most Captivating Seductive scents to be found, not to mention the presentation of each work of art. I love the back story we got about some of his fragrances, and his honesty with the 2 fragrances he said he hoped to be remembered for this far. Most artist will act like they don’t have a favorite creation. I love that I learned “quite lovely” is not a great way to show you truly enjoy something. His nose is amazing from getting asked to make scents to represent Royalty, and whole countries, to being ask to use his nose to create an amazing Scotch. His craftsmanship and quality of work is something we all should strive for in what ever we set out on in life. Well that’s my take away from this video. Did I win. LOL

  • Enjoyed the chat between Sebastian and Roja. They both have love for fragrances. Haven’t tried a Roja Parfums yet. Thanks, U.S

  • Monica Beaton says:

Excellent post and pics! Great interview – quite surprised by how talkative and easy going Roja was. I suppose I expected him to be a bit …shy? Very enjoyable Sebastian! I live in Australia

  • PeterSevastidis says:

i really enjoyed the chat between Sebastian and Roja. I loved the passion and knowledge Roja projected whilst discussing his own fragrances, it really shows how hands on his with his products. i learnt theres much more to a fragrance than meets the nose..

  • doveskylark says:

I loved this interview because I got the feeling that above all the luxury, it’s Roja’s memories of his father and mother that mean the most to him. I really would like to try his Vetiver fragrance, the one he made remembering his father.
    I live in the USA.

  • It was such a friendly interview , not done in a rush. That’s what I like about it. The fact that he created and dedicated vetiver perfume to his partner and the 10th anniversary of his mother’s death was new to me and the last thing when he invited the viewers to ask any wiswtion the y want and that he would answer.
    I’m from CA USA

  • Beautiful interview. You can tell mr. Roja Dove is confident enough , so he can tell in front of everybody the notes he dislikes. No other perfumer/creative director do have guts to do this…EVER. Just like Sebastian and Roja i’m not into marine notes .I also like his mothers words about making his own brand.Really enjoyable video i liked and shared as usual.
The only full bottle Roja Dove fragrance that i own is Risque for men – phenomenal scent , and the best Roja Dove fragrance i’m familiar with , and one of the best fragrance i’ve ever smelled. It’s marketed for men only, but it’s 100% unisex to me-as a woman i don’t have a problem wearing it.In US is known as Creation R….don’t know why?!?
Best wishes to all of you , and thank you for this fantastic giveaway.
    Cheers from VA

  • I enjoyed Sebastian and Mr. Dove’s conversation while Mr. Dove explained the perfumes and let Sebastian smell them. I enjoyed hearing Mr. Dove’s explanation on how and why he up with the Vetiver scent. Great interview and thank you for the giveaway.

  • I have read so much about Roja on Cafleurebon and I remember almost every review from Diaghilev to Chypre extraordinarie. I own Mr Doves Musk oud and I love chypre
    Please enter me
    What a great interview

  • I enjoyed the idea that he uses the color of his perfume caps to send a message and I was touched by the story about his mother. Thank you for the drawing!!!

  • Loved the information Sebastion gathered from Roja Dove. To hear the Diagalev was his proudest accomplishment was interesting to know. I also enjoyed the comments on several of his creations and some of the things that went into them. Would love to try the Chypre! Hope I win.

  • The interview gave insight into the mind of a master perfumer. Though the products sell themselves, Roja is keen on capturing the ambiance of a single moment like a goodnight kiss from his mother, and trying to immortalize that into something you can extend through scent. While many fragrances have stories, there is a special character to Roja that he understands the true connection between quality, presentation, experience and memory that is what makes fragrances really worth the money. Although some are out of my price range, I greatly admire this man and his artistry. If I won, I’d certainly do a great review.

  • Nice conversation with roja and how he became interestedin perfumery. My favorite house in fragrance. Definitely top 3. My favorite from this is musk aoud, amber aoud, qatar, uae, great Britain and several from the semi bespoke line. Sb4 and 22 are two of the few I’ve tried so far

  • I liked the casual, but knowledgeable tone of Sebastian, someone whose video blogs I love to watch. Roja seemed very accessible, too. My goodness, what a prolific perfumer! Thanks for the chance. I live in the U.S.

  • mplsgemgirl says:

His questions are always spot on and you really get a sense of the perfumers style. I can’t wait to try this house! I’m in MS USA

  • Was very happy to see this video last night! I loved having the chance to see the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie in Harrod’s while I visited London, what a treat! Was great to see Sebastian’s live reactions to the scents Roja was sharing with him. I wish the line was carried in my city (Austin, Texas). I thought it was interesting to hear Roja stating that Diaghilev is the fragrance that he hopes to be remembered by along with the backstory to Vetiver. Thanks!

  • I’ve always liked Sebastian’s videos and this one is no exception. I liked the spontaneous answers of Roja Dove on Sebastian’s questions. Knowing the background of some of Rosa’s fragrances makes you more appreciate his works. This is such a wonderful, extraordinary and insightful interview. Thanks, Cafleurebon and Sebastian. And thanks for this opportunity as well. – CA, USA

  • Sebastian, I really enjoyed your interview with Roja Dove. He is so passionate about his fragrances. I love how he has a backstory on each fragrance. It is really cool to watch him go into detail on why he made each fragrance the way he did. It makes me want to explore his fragrances more in depth.

  • patrick_348 says:

I enjoyed Dove talking about the creative process and about how liberating it is to be his own boss and it was fun to sdee Sebastian talking to someone other than the camera. I learned and got a new respect for how personal scent-making creativity can be and how that personal quality seems to be a mark of the Roja Dove iine. I am in North Carolina in the US.

  • Great interview. Wonderful to see and hear the perfumer in his own words. Interesting about the colors of the cap. I will be more observant. I own no Dove fragrances unfortunately. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Thank you Sebastian for very very interesting review!
it was interesting for me Roja’s favorite perfumes- Diaghilev and Vetiver !!! I’m going to buy Enigma (Creation-E) Parfum Pour Homme- rom, vanilla, wood_ just gorgeous!!

  • Emanuel Ramirez says:

I enjoyed all of the questions asked, and Rojas explanations to each scent at the end. What I found very interesting is that he only makes 250 of a specific fragrance on his birthday each year.

  • Sebastian’s reviews are always great! I’ve been curious about Roja perfumes for a while, and it’s nice to get a look inside from the man behind the house! I followed Sebastian’s travels on FB, and he came across all sorts of amazing things, and I like his interviews with the creators. Thanks for the post and the draw, and thanks to Sebastian for introducing us to so many great scents! I’m in the U.S.

  • Very good interview as most are from Sebastian. Roja is a very interesting personality and seems very genuine about his passion for perfumery. Interesting to learn some of his favorite notes to work with such as real ambergris. Big fan of his fragrances. Thanks so much for opportunity to try Chypre Extraordinaire!

  • Great interview! I really appreciate Roja’s appreciation for chypres – a genre that is a favorite of mine. I’m also happy to hear about his extensive use of natural ingredients and found his explanation of using synthetics as a way to elevate naturals to be well considered and important to the care with which he is producing his fragrances. This discussion has definitely gotten me interested to try more from the line.

  • Wonderful interview. I think Roja is a lovely man and has a lot to say about perfumes. Loves working with Ambergris. Thank you for the chance to win. It’s very exciting. I live in the US.

  • Always enjoy watching Sebastian’s videos. Even though Roja has a larger persona he always seems down to earth in his interviews. Really enjoyed hearing about the inner details of some of the fragrances and the little Easter Egg about Elysium’s advertisement.

Thanks for the giveaway I’m in the US

  • I really enjoyed Sebastian’s conversation with Roja dove. I haven’t had the chance to try any Roja fragrances yet due to their price tag and the fact that there are no stores near me to sample them. I always enjoy hearing from perfumers talk about their creations and what their views are on them. He seems like a great individual with such an amazing passion for fragrances and I can’t wait to try some of his fragrances. The Rojas that most interest me are scandal pour homme, diaghilev, and this one chypre extraordinaire. I am a big fan of chypre fragrances namely jubilation xxv, Antaeus, and Pour Monsieur. Thanks for the giveaway. I am in the USA in AZ.

  • Grandiflora says:

What I enjoyed most about Sebastian’s YouTube interview with Roja Dove of Roja Parfums was how each fragrance has a story. Something I learned about Roja Dove that is new or interesting to me was that they supply every royal household of the Gulf.

  • I really enjoyed the authenticity and intensity of the interview. Roja Dove seems like a very authentic and grounded individual. I did not know that this fragrance was the only one he wore and that he made it on his birthday only. I think his company has a great luxurious deal and I have never smelled one of his creations and would love to. Sebastian is always cool. collective and smart. Loved this interview.

  • Both Sebastian and Roja seem like old friends here. The one thing that I learned was the flower Litsea Cubeba , which acts as a citrus that lasts for hours. I am incredibly interested in how the oak moss, or substitute works in his new Chypre. Thank you everyone who is making this GiveAway possible

  • I thoroughly enjoyed Sebastian’s interview! I had no idea that Roja wore the same fragrance everyday and that he wanted to be remembered for Diaghilev.I What blew my mind was when he stated that he supplied every royal household in the gulf. Overall, Roja seems down to earth and you can see that he loves what he does. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US! 🙂

  • I thought the interview was interesting since it went through a lot of Roja’s personal interests, which shine through in his fragrances. At least from what I tried. WHat I thought was new to me was when he was asked to do the scent of a 10 pound note. I remember he did do scents of notes for Macallan which they used at their tastings, so I guess he’s good with these type of projects.
    Thanks for the draw

  • Enjoyable interview.Learned Roja Dove favorite color is same as mine-purple , how he found out his passion for perfume ,Rolls Royce perfume and so on..
Not all , but most Roja Dove fragrances are very complex , so i presume Chypré Extraordinaire will be just as good.
    Thank you for this draw.
I am a fan of Roja Dove fragrances-own full bottles of Parfum Version of Enigma/Creation-E and vintage version of Bergamot Extrait -by FAR the best bergamot fragrance ever imo … unfortunately discontinued 🙁

  • What a great interview by Mr. Jara.As a new to the fragrance game I have to say I really enjoyed it. Pushing your kid to persuade his dreams , create his his own brand , and keep doing what he loves is beyond admirable. Most do not have the courage to quit a well paid job , to create their own business and opportunities for others.Creating a fragrance for a high end car brand like Rolls Royce is a bit odd to me who am I to judge. As for Roja Dove the only one I have the pleasure to know is Elysium Pour Homme – the blue bottle , but because of this video I really want to sample Sweetie Aoud .Thx to Mr. Jara for his interview , and to Europerfums and Cafleurebon for the opportunity. Really enjoyable interview.

I liked the description of the Great Britain fragrance the most. The voilets blanketed by leather sounds really nice !

I really like Roja’s easy going demeanor and his passion when he introduces different scents to Sebastian.

    Cheers !

  • Sebastian is an amazing reviewer and overall person. His interview was outstanding. We must all pursue our dreams and create our own brands in life. It does take courage but its doable. I have a sample of Elysium and its amazing. I am student so Roja is out of my league for now but I do want to own some of Roja Dove scents like Chypre Extraordinaire. I hope Roja Dove makes that smell of money fragrance available for purchase. I live in CA, USA.

  • I always enjoy reviews by Sebastian. And I’ve never tried any fragrance by Roja Parfums. This one sounds wonderful and I love that he’s picking up a violet note. I actually love that note because it brings a sweet, powdery feel to a fragrance.

I started with a knot in my throat to learn that this day marked the anniversary of his mother’s death., but he swiftly took us to spending the night with your scent.
Sebastian, you look like you were at the candy store! Did you end up spending the night with anyone?
Devine interview, I shall own a Roja perfume, sooner than later!!!
