“It’s snowing so innocently. Perhaps on a fogged windowpane, a tiny finger has drawn a small house with a door, two windows, and a chimney sending forth a slender wisp of smoke. The village of snowflakes exists only in a child’s eyes. The window is a faded page from the angels’ book. And so winter begins: on a white morning, with venerable old trees and other children.” Ionel Teodoreanu, translated by Nicoleta from Romanian

On the other side of the world, a child drew a small house, on a frozen window. The adult remembered and a core memory came back to life, in the form of a perfume. Hez Parfums tells stories that feel instantly familiar, no matter where you’re from – and Hez Binkowitz has a way of transforming memories into fragrances, capturing the essence of the emotions we all share.

New Orleans, with its one-of-a-kind energy, takes center stage in Hez’s creations. From the soulful jazz floating through the French Quarter to the vibrant colors and joy of Mardi Gras, the city’s spirit is alive in every bottle. Hez’s perfume collection paints an olfactory picture of lively streets, the quiet beauty of the Garden District, and the unforgettable flavors of its food and drinks. Each scent is crafted with love, blending his artistic vision with a deep appreciation for the heart and soul of the Big Easy. Through these fragrances, Hez invites us to experience New Orleans in a way that feels personal, like stepping into a memory we didn’t know we remembered. From the moment I first encountered Hez’s collection, one fragrance stood out as the most profoundly nostalgic was Plum Confiture.

Hez Parfums Plum Conficture is an emotional journey that transports me back to my grandparents’ old house, this comforting aroma evoking the stillness of winter, the white purity of fresh snow, and the warm, sweet scent of lekvár cookies cooling on the windowsill – a memory so vivid it feels like a tender embrace from the past.

Nearby, a child leans over the coffee table, fingers sticky with glue and speckled with glitter, piecing together paper garlands in bright red and green checks. The cat, curious and playful, pounces on a loose ribbon, sending it skittering across the floor, earning a burst of laughter.

As the fragrance evolves, a richer, more intimate layer emerges. The heart of Plum Conficture is an indulgent blend of honeycomb and aged tobacco. These notes combine to evoke quiet, serene moments- grandpa sitting in his favorite armchair, reading the newspaper, while the scent of sweet tobacco wafts through the air. The honey adds a velvety sweetness that softens the tobacco, creating a smooth, nostalgic effect that lingers. Finally, the fragrance dries down into a base of guaiacwood, amberwood, and soft oud. These woody notes ground the scent, providing a familiar coziness that feels like the steady embrace of a grandparent. The oud adds just a hint of smokiness, bringing depth and character to the composition, without overpowering the comforting elements.

Hez Parfums Plum Conficture is neither too sweet nor too smoky, making it perfect for anyone who appreciates a scent that takes you on a trip to a snowy memory lane. The balance between the fruity sweetness of plum, the rich, cozy spices, and the grounding woods ensures it wears beautifully on both men and women, and across all ages, making it a fantastic gift for the winter holidays. Plum Conficture is a gentle reminder that, no matter where we go in life, we can always return –if only in our dreams- to the people and places that made us who we are.

  • Nicoleta’s review beautifully captures the nostalgic and emotional essence of Plum Conficture, and what sparks my interest the most is the way the fragrance seems to transport you to cherished childhood memories. The combination of plum, honey, and tobacco creating a warm and intimate atmosphere is particularly intriguing, as it evokes scenes of winter serenity and familial comfort. I’m fascinated by how the fragrance balances sweetness, smokiness, and woody depth, making it a truly versatile and evocative scent. It feels like more than a perfume – it’s a journey back to moments of love, warmth, and belonging.

It’s in the name and one of my favorite notes: plum. I think Hez does gourmands very well and this one borders on that territory. A fragrance perfect for this time of year, to remind us of something sweet and nostalgic. It doesn’t look like the oud comes out much but it’s rather there to elongate the life of the fragrance. A simple note breakdown but the fragrance does what it sets out to do, remind us of our childhood and the people we live. I’m located in the USA.

  • Nicoleta’s refers to prose to visualize Plum Conficture— a quintessential snowy winter’s day, cozying up to a toasty fire while gazing out of a frosted window, enjoying. the scenic view of winter white snow and the woods and childhood memories—memory transformed into a fragrance. A scent that shines in the colder weather month: a richness that is indulgent and tempered by aged tobacco paired with woody notes that round out a profile that creates a comforting, yet sophisticated experience.

  • I like winter fragrances, with their sweet/boozy/warm notes, but most of all I love fragrances that manage to tell a story.
Wearing those kind of fragrances is a different way to appreciate the fragrances world.
There is a place in my collection for the regular parfumes, that everyone likes and I wear to go out, and there’s a place, more intimate, where fragrances like this one described by Nicoleta are no longer considered parfumes, but liquid stories or maybe, liquid memories.
    Greetings from Italy.

  • Nicoleta’s review of Plum Conficture by HEZ Parfums is quite evocative! What stands out to me is the way she describes the fragrance’s ability to evoke nostalgic memories. The combination of juicy plum, warming cinnamon, and nutmeg conjures images of freshly baked plum pies, while the honey and tobacco notes bring to mind quiet moments with a grandparent1. The base notes of guaiacwood, amberwood, and oud add a comforting, familiar touch, making the scent feel like a warm hug. So these aspects sparked my interest. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • This reminds me of spending winter break with my grandparents in the Berkshires. My sister and I would eagerly wake every morning to see if their was snow outside, my Zeyde would smoke while sitting in his chair reading the sports section and the house would fill with the sents of stewed prunes and apricots.

But what most attracted me was the to the review was this, These woody notes ground the scent, providing a familiar coziness that feels like the steady embrace of a grandparent.

  • As I purchased a sample recently, I believe Nicoleta captures the feelings it evokes quite perfectly! It’s warm and inviting and pulls memories back that maybe are a bit faded and awaiting the right trigger to awaken. The plum, cinnamon and nutmeg forging memories of all the Christmas cookies, and the tobacco and woods precisely reminding me of grandpa’s pipe in the chair with thick, wooden armrests. This is truly a perfect scent for the season and wonderful way to revisit the moments we hold fondly during the holidays. Cheers from Ohio! 🙂

  • I’m normally very shy of Amberwood, but the warm, innocent memory-feel described here sounds like something I really want to try, and the notes list is soooo tempting for the Holiday season! I live in the US.

  • Based on Nicoleta’s review, I am fascinated by the nostalgic and warm gourmand quality of Plum Conficture. The idea of a rich, comforting scent that evokes sweet memories makes this fragrance truly appealing. I live in Europe. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!

Sounds great for this time of year. What caught my attention was when Nicoleta says that this fragrance is an “indulgent blend of honeycomb and aged tobacco.”

I love tobacco and anything smokey. Not too sure about that plumb note but I guess we’ll see if I win.

  • I could taste, smell, and feel the warmth in this review, and it was beautiful! Plum, honey, tobacco are natural together, but the added nutmeg, cinnamon, and wood add so much interest. I would love to get this under my nose – thanks for the chance to do so. I’m in the US.

  • Well this sounds like the perfect cold weather fragrance. I do love a plum note and spices and woods are such a great balance to the fruitiness. I have yet to try this house but I’ve heard good things. Fingers crossed I win this generous giveaway. I am in USA.

  • Plum is the quintessential fruit for winter fragrances. The cozy spices, honey-tobacco blend and grounding woods is reminiscent of a warm spot by the fireplace on a frosty night. This sounds lovely and comforting. I can see why Nicoleta finds it so evocative. MD, USA.

  • This warm combination of honeyed tobacco and plum and spice pastry baking in the kitchen sounds wonderfully cozy, and perfect for the holidays. The character of the woods in the base seem like they’re designed to balance that sweetness, also providing some texture and endurance. I’d love to wear Hez Parfums Plum Conficture this winter.

  • Now this sounds like a wonderful winter fragrance! Plum and spice was all I really needed to hear, but once Nicoleta started talking about the honeycomb and tobacco rising up in the heart I was fully sold. It was beautiful to read about the memories and imagery it stirred up for her. That’s one of the most awesome aspects of this artform and I’m always delighted to hear when it has such an impact on someone. Maybe it will stir up some memories for me as well. I’m sure that at the very least it will help in creating some new ones. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • Plum is an ingredient that I haven’t experienced often in a perfume. Based on this article I am intrigued also because of the idea that we can always return –if only in our dreams- to the people and places that made us who we are.

    Would love to try this!

I love how Nicoletta describes experiencing this scent like a memory. I can picture a yummy plum dessert being eaten near a cozy fireplace, perhaps with a grandfather smoking a pipe on the nearby patio. It’s cold and snowy, the fire and dessert warms you up. Love.
