“Everything in New Orleans is a good idea.” — Bob Dylan

Hez Parfums Banana Bread Banshee combines two of my favorite things: banana bread and New Orleans! According to the perfumer behind the brand, Hez Binkowitz, “the true inspiration behind Banana Bread Banshee comes from cherished memories with my late mother.

My mother was a very loving and caring person that enjoyed spending time with her family. Some of my best memories with her were involved simple things, like enjoying a fresh baked banana bread together. I wanted a fragrance that could pull me back to that time and place, and really capture the warmth of those memories. I also wanted it to be something that other people could find similar connections to. I am honored that Banana Bread Banshee is able to evoke such strong feelings and memories in myself and others. It’s warm and inviting, just like the smell of fresh baked banana bread.”

I have traveled to New Orleans to experience the city’s culture, music, and food more times than I can count. Home of the most unique celebrations and street culture in the United States, a visit during Mardi Gras is a bucket-list event. Vibrant and life-affirming, New Orleans is my favorite place on Earth. According to Hez Binkowitz, “all of the fragrances I’ve created for Hez Parfums are dedicated to various aspects of life and culture in New Orleans on the surface level. Banana Bread Banshee is one of those fragrances. It was created with a very specific memory and feeling in mind.”

Hez Parfums Banana Bread Banshee is a banana party in a bottle. I drink in banana’s lush white floral aspects and the fruit’s ripe pear-like facets on display. I am immediately impressed with the veracity and fullness of this banana note, to my nose the best I have smelt. A citrus sparkle shines in the opening of the fragrance from a lemon that becomes sweeter with time, adding hints of powdered sugar to the rind. Cinnamon rounds out the luscious opening of Hez Parfums Banana Bread Banshee with mouthwateringly sweet spice that refracts clove, apple, raisin, almond, and coumarin within its warm aura. All of this beautiful warm spice cradles the banana note and sparks the best kind of cravings.

With time, Hez Parfums Banana Bread Banshee becomes richer with more depth which is adding a touch of wood. I am picturing a loaf of freshly baked banana bread cooling on a wooden cutting board. This is a delightful sight often shared with family (my mother’s baking skills when I was a child and now my husband’s loving craft in the kitchen often produce delicious homemade banana bread). A bread accord integrates the realistic banana note to create a banana bread accord that is masterfully constructed. I can smell the touch of brown sugar and vanilla baked into this mouthwatering treat. Sandalwood creates a soft base that provides our banana bread a place to rest and cool. Hez Parfums Banana Bread Banshee is a comforting and magnetic fragrance that will draw people your way. Laissez les bons temps rouler.

Notes: banana, lemon, cinnamon, caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, bread, vanilla, sandalwood

A Fragrance being described with Banana, Powdered Sugar & Cinnamon vibes, what’s not to like. With a touch of wood that smells like “loaf of freshly baked banana bread cooling on a wooden cutting board.” That’s a visual I would like to get my nose on. I’m into gourmands and into what Hez has been creating lately. This is a full bottle I would like to add to my collection for sure.

  • I like gourmands and banana inspired ones don’t come around everyday so that has sparked my interest in this one. US

  • First of all, I love the name Banana Bread Banshee! A banana note that has fullness, plus a touch of wood, warm spices, powdered sugar and a citrus sparkle in the opening… sounds delectable! A perfect cozy, nostalgic scent for winter.

  • I have been following this brand and specifically this scent. I’m a huge gourmand fan and haven’t tried a scent with banana!

  • Ooo banana perfumes sounds sweet and yummy! I love gourmands and I don’t have any banana perfume in my collection. I wonder if banana will be the theme this year? I live in WA, USA

What sparked my interests about the article, the mention of how Hez created this Fragrance based on memories of his mother baking for the family. I think any fragrance created with memories for our loved ones, I need in my collection…Not to mention I have heard great things about the house. I would love to have this in my collection. I love Gourmand fragrances.

  • Ok, this must be a sign or something, because I just heard about this scent the other day and here is a review about it. How crazy! And it even makes me want banana bread. In maryland.

  • I enjoyed how Hez Binkowitz inspiration behind this perfume was conjured up from cherished memories with his late mom. Love the gourmand aspects of this composition, bread and banana you don’t see used much in perfumery which makes this one pretty unique. Thank you. New York, USA.

North Alabama here! This is an amazing fragrance!! My favorite of the Hez Parfums line. Normally I am not big on gourmands but this has no synthetic feel to it at all. It’s beautiful all the way through and lasts all day.

  • I just heard Jax on YouTube raving about this recently. That got my interest. Beautiful photo of Hez and his Mother. So many of us have fond memories of banana bread. My mom made it. It was also one of the first things I made as a teen. Sadly my husband doesn’t like it and I don’t need a whole loaf to myself (or do I?) I’d love to have banana bread in a bottle year round. Thanks for the chance. NOLA is amazing. USA.

  • I’ve heard good thinks about Banana Bread Banshee but this description really makes me want to try it. I love the smell and taste of raw bananas, banana pudding, and banana bread. I’ve been nervous to try this perfume because I really don’t like artificial banana in taste or in smell. However, here it’s mentioned as the best they’ve smelled and that it is photorealistic. I want to get my nose on this, contest or not! Thanks for the opportunity. Ohio, USA

  • This sounds perfect for this time of year. Cozy, warm, cinnamon sweet bread with a bit of fruit and fun!

  • Great company with unique releases. Haven’t tried the banana bread banshee so winning a full bottle would be amazing.

  • I’d never heard of Hez Parfums until now. Nor have I ever smelled a fragrance that smells like banana bread. I love gourmand perfumes. I also make really great banana bread (with walnuts) and just love how wonderful and comforting it makes my house smell. What an interesting experience this fragrance must be! I’d love to try it and experience this fragrance house!

What a beautiful description of this fragrance. I am intrigued by just how much this fragrance smells like banana bread. I haven’t had the pleasure of trying it but, I’m so curious. It sounds delicious.

I admire gourmands and banana inspired ones don’t come around everyday so that has sparked my interest in this one. From PA, USA

  • From experience, baking banana bread is an olfactory delight. The notes list is spot on. I would have like to see some boozy notes like rum but the caramel and chocolate are a nice gourmand addition. The bottle is adorable. I’m in the US.

  • I haven’t smelled any of Hez’s fragrances but I keep hearing good things about them. I hadn’t known about the New Orleans connection to his work. That and the idea of a banana-oriented gourmand sparked my interest in this fragrance. I live in Oklahoma, USA.

  • Lara Von Bon says:

Knowing that he made this gem from his memories of his mom makes all sense now. Banana bread in general gives you that certain feeling of nostalgia. I own certain gourmand perfumes that are reminiscent of a certain time, since food is always a part of our lives, and smelling something familiar gives you that comfort and transports you. Very beautiful!

  • Theenzoftheworld says:

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for – recently have been in the habit of ninja blending frozen bananas to make ice cream and pouring homemade caramel sauce on top. The aromatics of that concoction are extremely intoxicating – this fragrance sounds like it would achieve the same result. Wiukd ship to Pittsburgh , PA .

I love banana bread, and Hez Parfums Banana Bread Banshee sounds like a fragrance I’d enjoy. Rachel made this fragrance seem very enticing to me when she described an aspect of it by saying: “Cinnamon rounds out the luscious opening of Hez Parfums Banana Bread Banshee with mouthwateringly sweet spice that refracts clove, apple, raisin, almond, and coumarin within its warm aura.” I live in MD, U.S.A.

  • I’m very drawn to try this perfume because of how she describes the banana note. Often, banana can smell plasticy or like laffy taffy or sunscreen in perfumes so to have a realistic banana note shrouded in wood and spice sounds SO up my alley.

  • Monica robinson says:

What sparks my interest with this scent is the bananas cause I never smelled it in a perfume at all so this would be a first for me

  • I’m intrigued by the banana smell cause I never smelled it in any perfume item so this will be a first in a fragrance for me

  • I’m super interested in trying something that smells like banana bread. I’ve tried a few from hez and he usually hits his mark so I have high expectations on this one

  • daneemfragrance@gmail.com says:

I really enjoyed the story behind the Banana Bread Banshee. I was touched by the story how Hez created a fragrance that triggers memories about baking banana bread with his mom and enjoying it. After reading this article makes me want to visit New Orleans sometime soon. Thank you for this beautiful article.

  • I’m a little wary of gourmands, which I find difficult to wear. Still, I love the nostalgic inspiration for this one, and I’m intrigued by how robust and accurate the banana note is; white floral and unmistakably banana. More interesting is the woody drydown, thematically suggesting bread on the cutting board, and balancing out the sweet-and-spice aspect of the fragrance.

    I’m in the USA.

  • I love banana bread and almost any dessert with banana, so I was immediately drawn to Banana Bread Banshee. I enjoyed reading about the inspiration behind the fragrance; it sounds like a beautiful ode to Hez’s mother. Banana Bread Banshee truly sounds delicious. I loved Rachel’s comments about the banana note being the best she has smelled. That’s quite an achievement! The image of freshly baked banana bread cooling on a wooden cutting board is lovely. Banana bread reminds me of my mom, as well. She used to bake it all of the time when I was younger- I can smell it now! I would love to own a bottle of Banana Bread Banshee. Thank you, Rachel, for the mouthwatering review, and thank you to Hez Parfums for the giveaway. I am located in the USA.

  • Everything about Rachel’s review of Banana Bread Banshee has me completely enthralled. From Hez Binkowitz’s deep love of New Orleans culture and the absolutely celebratory nature that this perfume is guaranteed to exude. I’m mesmerized by how she describes the bread accord most as this is a new intrigue of mine perfumery of encapsulating photorealistic pieces into a perfect mosaic of art, and highlighting such a fun fruit cooked within. Lovely! From Portland, OR.

Banana bread brings back so many memories of my mom baking when I was a child. I loved the way the banana bread baking in the oven smelled. I love cinnamon and brown sugar notes. I have near been to New Orleans, but discerning Hez Perfumes makes me want to go.

Thanks for the lovely review Rachel.

While I’m not personally a fan of gourmands, I am touched by the perfumers tribute to his late mother and the love that is on display in the communal act of maknig and sharing breadm in this case banana bread.

It’s really cool to see the evolution of this fragrance as once where the banana note doesn’t particularly dominate, but is lovingly supported by lemon, that movies to sweetness, warm spice, woodiness and creamy sandalwood. The banana note seems to have received high praise in this.

  • I would say banana bread is my most baked item ever. It’s perfect for every season. It’s always a staple in this house and it is an incredible scent that reminds me of home as well. I had never considered a banana bread perfume until now and it sounds so delicious and fun. Thanks for sharing the lovely backstory.
