BDK Parfums Wood Jasmin Review (Camille Leguay) 2016 + Smoldering Floral Giveaway

BDK Parfums Wood Jasmin

Perfumer Camille Leguay composed a stunning perfume in BDK Parfum Wood Jasmin, one that has that vintage retro feel, a nod to the past brought into the contemporary. It’s almost like the love child of Shalimar and L’Heure Bleu drunk on a fruit liquor or possibly a long-lost Jean Patou with its opulent full feel. Wood Jasmin’s name might lead you to believe it’s a simple blend of jasmine and woods, but it’s actually much more intricate. The perfume boasts a luxurious, fruity balsamic heart that gradually transforms into a smoky aroma full of mystery. Jasmine is presented in a unique manner, showcasing its diverse characteristics. Interestingly, I recently bought some Guatemalan coffee that instantly brought Wood Jasmin to mind. Names and preconceived ideas can fool us, if you were to taste it without knowing, you wouldn’t guess it was coffee; instead, you’d experience a delightful mix of boozy balsamic red wine notes, ripe tropical fruits, and cherry – reminiscent of how BDK Parfums Wood Jasmin unfolds on my skin.

Fruity, rich, boozy florals blossom, giving Wood Jasmin an opulent feel as it opens. Rose petals textured with soft pear flesh, feel sensual and rich as more herbal aromas draw the darkness around them. Elegant plummy aromas give Wood Jasmin a delicious deep feel, as if the fruits are going ripe making them boozy with a balsamic intensity. Egyptian Jasmine with its danker herbaceous side adds to the abstract floral haze that’s slowly blooming around the dark plumy fruit aromas.

Plum, Davana and Turkish Rose

Pear seems to feel more powdery as the soft leather rich florals jasmine sambac bloom, making BDK Parfums Wood Jasmin feel softly suede like. A shift occurs as the fruits grow richer and more abstract, shifting more into a dark cherry, almond, stone-fruit feel. Lush aromatics from davana give more herbal boozy facets to Wood Jasmin, while pulling out more sweetness from the florals and fruits making the darker elements shine with a soft haze of jasmine as it haunts the edges. Everything slowly grows deeper revealing a soft rich glow in the heart. Sensual dark vanilla hides here, giving this opulent feel, one that’s not at all very obvious at first, as the boozy davana fruits and florals draw your attention, enriching people closer before the balsamic richness envelopes them. Turkish rose also envelops the vanilla as it reveals itself with its soft green spices giving a silky texture to the rich aromas that have been in the spotlight. It’s hard to call this is a jasmine forward perfume as the delicious liqueur fruits and later the smoky balsamic resinous woods that feel the most forward, yet the jasmine lingers at the edges in air around you. New woody aromas arrive, with pear again giving a soft powdery feel to them, as its texture and scent continue to play hide and seek throughout the wear. Everything merges under the influence of these florals with davana’s complex liquor feel giving a delicious sensation, as woody raisin like tobacco facets add a new element to Wood Jasmin.

Soft woody smoky aromas wrap around this boozy floral fruitiness with a balsamic richness that seems to expand the davana’s liquor facets as the plumy pear from earlier gives a more cherry almond feel like on my skin, leaving the pluminess behind. The Indonesian patchouli gives a deep dark richness to the liqueur, thickening it with earthy undertones creating a sense of depth without its more dirty facets showing, whispers of its wet earthiness ground the balsamic rich smokiness that encases the fruity florals. A lot of the woodiness in BDK Parfums Wood Jasmin seems to be coming from Madagascan vanilla, the sweetness of the vanilla is there quietly adding to rich feel but it’s that powdery woody side that giving a thickness to the ambery incense notes that’s are giving rich muskiness and air of mystery, as cypriol makes the rich fruity florals smoulder with a darker warmth. Frankincense, while adding to the smoky feel also lightens the heavier musky haze with a gentle woody freshness. Wood Jasmin’s deep dry down sits on my skin like a dark cherry wrapped in a soft floral haze of powdery woods and a balsamic incense smoke. Rich, dark and delicious, on colder days, perfect for winter, but a few light sprays gives you a smoky mysterious balsamic floral feel on warmer days.

Notes: Plum, Pear, Jasmine of Egypt, Sambac Jasmine, Rose of Turkey, Dhavanam, Incense of Somalia, Vanilla of Madagascar, Patchouli of Indonesia, Labdanum of Spain, Cypriol Nagarmotha of India.

  • BDK is likely my favorite perfume house just off of the strength of Gris Charnel, Pas Ce Soir, Tabac Rose and Citrus Riviera. Somehow Wood Jasmin is a blind spot for me, and I haven’t gotten to try it yet but I loved this review. What a symphony of notes/accords, I’m stoked to give it a sniff!

Gris Charnel Extrait is my favorite BDK fragrance and probably my favorite of all time. So gorgeous and warm, deep, cozy and alluring.

    Hello from NYC 🙂

What a beautiful and intriguing fragrance! This reviewer makes it sound intoxicating and alluring. I’d love to get my hands on this! I do not have a favorite BDK, unless it’s this one. I live in Oregon.

It’s always a reason to celebrate when a fragrance house enjoys an anniversary and I’m glad BDK has been with us for a decade. BDK has some of the most beloved fragrances in the community such as Gris Charnel, Velvet Tonka and Pas Ce Soir. I knew of the existence of Wood Jasmine but I wasn’t too familiar with the notes. The moment I saw plum and J Wearescentient giving it a boozy characteristic, my mouth dropped. How have I neglected to sample this one for so long? I like he mentioned a few good sprays it’s good for summer days as my philosophy has always been fragrances have no season (if you like it, wear it), but sometimes people need that reminder that yes you can wear it in the summer. My favorite BDK even though I don’t know it is Gris Charnel Extrait, a masterpiece if you ask me. Cheers from the USA.

  • Earthiness and floral notes are one of my favourite combinations and I really admire them this mix really sparked my interest in Wood Jasmin. I live in Trzebnica, Poland EU. Nuit De Sable would be my fav from BDK.

  • Jessica Rauch says:

Gorgeous mixture of scents! I like how it was described as a boozy, rich fruity and floral scent. I want to be boozy on perfume! My favorite BDK perfume is definitely Gris Charnel. I live in New York, NY!

  • Rouge Smoking is one of my favorite fragrances of all time! I’m also a huge jasmine, and woods fan. I would love to be an owner of another amazing BDK perfume. Much love from NJ

  • I love the idea of a jasmin that is rich dark and delicious and is a bit retro.
A love child between Shalimar and l’heure bleu drunk on liquor sparked my interest.
    What a great description.
My favorite BDK PARFUMS is ROUGE SMOKING
    I live in the USA
    Congratulations to bdk

I like it how the fragrance is described as a boozy and rich fruity/floral scent. It’s an intriguing description and makes me want to try this scent. My favorite BDK fragrance is Gris Charnel which is beautiful and complex. I live in New York, NY!!

  • It is especially the fruity – floral dichotomy that sparked my interest. The jasmine and rose on one side, and then the pear and cherry on the other, all blended, deepened and enriched by the people-pleaser vanilla. Sounds like something everybody can love.

BDK is one of my favorite fragrance houses, my favorite being Gris Charnel. I actually have not tried Wood Jasmin yet, but J’s review makes it sound lovely. I would love to try it. I am in CA, USA.

  • Camille Leguay’s creation, BDK Parfums Wood Jasmin, sounds absolutely enchanting. I’m captivated by its rich, fruity balsamic heart and smoky, mysterious undertones. The way it bridges the past and present, reminiscent of vintage classics like Shalimar and L’Heure Bleu, yet entirely unique, makes it even more intriguing. The luxurious interplay of jasmine, pear, plum, and Turkish rose creates a lush, opulent experience that I can’t wait to try. As a Nashville resident, I’m especially drawn to how it evokes the boozy notes of balsamic red wine and ripe tropical fruits. My favorite BDK Parfum so far is Gris Charnel Extrait, but Wood Jasmin seems like it could become a new favorite with its complex and evolving nature.

    I live in Nashville, TN

  • Love BDK for its elegant perfumes.
My favorite being Gris Charnel. I actually do not remember this perfume fully because have tried one time and remember only tender, little dry jasmine with some cedar note, which I enjoyed. I would love to try it again.

  • Oh my, this sounds like a stunner. Jasmine is such a rich floral with seemingly countless facets, and I love the depth it brings when it’s mixed with dark fruits. I think the smoky nuances in this would add quite an interesting touch to the composition. I’ve only tried a few BDK fragrances so far, and of those my favorite is probably 312 Saint-Honore – there’s such beauty in it’s ethereal simplicity. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • John Gahlt says:

J’s review of BDK Parfums Wood Jasmin captivated me with its vivid descriptions and rich sensory imagery, evoking the transformation and complexity of the scent in a way that almost lets you smell it through the words. The comparison to a vintage retro feel, along with the intricate blend of fruits, florals, and balsamic notes, truly piqued my curiosity. my favorite BDK Parfum has to be Rouge Smoking for its bold and seductive profile.

I am from the EU Germany

  • I had already been looking at Wood Jasmine, mainly because of the plum note. Reading this review really intensified my need to have this one, the descriptions by the reviewer sold me..

    Indiana USA

  • Gris Charnel has long been a love of mine and I have eyed this one with a lot of curiosity. This review is so detailed I am completely smitten with it!! What a great use of Cypriol Nagarmotha and olibanum for just the right smokiness and plum and pear weaving in and out doing their magic. It’s amazing how rose can compliment jasmine but also woods like patchouli can being along its earthiness and both crisp it and smooth is at the same time. This sounds just gorgeous. I am in US thank you for the chance to win.

  • I’d like to know all kinds of jasmine out there – to be able to imsgine, a little closer to reality, what Wood Jasmin smells like.
There’s a bush of jasmine in my garden, white, dainty little flowers that impart such a delicate smell that seem like stuff of angels – a bit difficult for me to picture the rich, dark and delicious feel of the main star in Wood Jasmin.
Thanks for the review and the draw, from EU.

What a smoky mysterious balsamic floral feel on warmer days?! I like it and I want it! I am from EU

  • Laurentiu says:

Looking forward to trying Wood Jasmine. From my past experience, BDK is a house with some solid offerings. One may say that they can even be considered a signature scent, i.e. Gris Charnel, Creme de Cuir.
Looking at the notes, I think I will enjoy greatly Wood Jasmine. Thanks!

  • Wood Jasmin sounds so good! It has some of my favorite notes and I just love boozy fragrances. Cannot wait to try it! Greetings from Romania, EU.

  • musky haze with a gentle woody freshness.

A beautiful description really intrigued by the woody smoky and boozy fruits and florals. This fragrance contains most of the notes that I adore. Congratulations on celebrating ten years. Thanks a lot from the UK

Thanks a million from the UK

  • Patricia R. says:

Not having any idea of any ide how this fragrance can smell I leave it to the mastery and competence of the perfumer. The mentions of frankincense, muskiness, suede and silky texture and boozy and balsamic feel attrack my attention, as I have experience they can indeed come out unpredictably beautiful in the cold weather. I live in the EU.

  • WillRhodes says:

Oh, how I love BDK Parfums! I love to hear that this creation is so much more than the name, even though I love both jasmine and woody notes I find it so interesting that through J’s review there is so much more going on than those two notes in the name.
Boozy and balsamic are descriptive words that often entice me in the world of fragrance, and I love how things like incense smoke have the balsamic facets and the boozy facets wrapping around the rich fruity florals. This sounds deep and delicious!

  • I love BDK as a house but you had me when you referenced a love child involving Shalimar and l’heure bleu as I love most things guerlain especially Shalimar. And a Jasmin and wood scent that is more than a Jasmin and wood scent! Yes. In maryland.

  • Leather, stone fruits, and jasmine? Sign me up! I love Gris Charnel and would love to try Wood Jasmin as well! Thanks for the opportunity to win. I’m in MN, USA

  • This scent sounds much more interesting and deep than I originally thought. I only smelled it once on a blotter and I really liked it but I’m sure it would be even more beautiful on skin. Thanks for the opportunity! I’m from the EU. My favorite from BDK is the one and only Pas Ce Soir.

  • I like my jasmine supported by dark and ambery narcotic notes. Wood Jasmine seems to have vintage inspiration with the balsamic, incense and smoky elements. I’ve not tried any BDK parfums yet. MD, USA.

  • I have a discovery set from BDK. It is one of my favorite houses. Love Tabac Rose. “Wood Jasmin’s name might lead you to believe it’s a simple blend of jasmine and woods, but it’s actually much more intricate.” This is so true. The break down of the notes gives you a wonderful Fragrance far from simple. USA

  • Oh, wow, this sounds like a journey into luxuriousness! The phrase “a lost Jean Patou” totally got attention. This sounds amazing. I am still exploring the BDK line, and I live in the US.

  • I am big fan of BDK, my favourite is Velvet Tonka and Gris Charnel Extrait, I own none of them though yet. Wood Jasmin sparked my attention too and I would love to win a bottle.
    Thank you
    I live in USA

  • I’m still pretty new to BDK’s line of fragrances but was first introduced through Gris Charnel. The thing that sparked my interest the most about Wood Jasmin from J’s review is the presence of a lot of uncommon notes (take for example Dhavanam) and are incredibly unfamiliar to me. Overall all though sounds very fun to wear, especially in the winter. Current fav is Gris Charnel.
    TX, USA.

  • As per J’s Interview, the BDK Parfum is a rollercoaster of fragrance mix inside a bottle. The Fruity Balsamic, Jasmin wood, and Guatemalan coffee combinations make the fragrance unique. The drydown seems even more interesting with a hint of vanilla, dark cherry, and wrap around a sweet floral powdery woods. When use in summer its dark and wood scent are more pronounced, but on winter its sweet smoky and mysterious scent. A versatile fragrance in my opinion. I’m from California USA

  • y1NYang69 says:

The layers and depth that is described in this fragrance is what intrigues me. It seems fresh but deep and cozy. Love from NY!

  • ElenaChiss says:

I see here some of my favorites notes in a fragrance: jasmine, rosev, vanilla and incense. Wood Jasmin has some great potential! I would love to try it as I have tested a few others from the brand and they did not disappoint.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for the draw and review!

  • I’m intrigued by how this presents jasmine in a unique and unexpected way – always love to smell something new and unique! I particularly like the description of its boozy, balsamic intensity, and I’m curious about the “danker herbaceous side” of the Egyptian jasmine here. Finally the patchouli – “deep dark richness to the liqueur, thickening it with earthy undertones” – from J’s descriptions, it sounds so intriguing and complex. I’m in the UK.

  • I’ve never owned any BDK fragrances but I have had an opportunity to smell a few at a niche shop in Scranton. The quality of their scents is incredible. I am always drawn to fragrances with jasmine. It adds such a beautiful mysterious quality. Hypnotic Poison and all it’s flankers utilize jasmine in their formulas and I just love the extra dimension it brings. The plum and pear in Wood Jasmine really got my attention. I like how it’s mentioned that the pear note, while being a top note, still makes a reappearance throughout the wear of the fragrance as it dries down.
    I live in the USA.

  • What really caught my attention about this review was the way it described the transformation of Wood Jasmin on the skin. It starts with rich fruity and floral notes and then deepens into a smoky, balsamic finish. The mix of plum, pear, jasmine, and dhavanam sounds like it would create a truly unique and luxurious scent. I love how Camille Leguay managed to blend all these elements together to make something so intricate and captivating. This makes me really curious to try BDK Parfums, especially Wood Jasmin, to see how it evolves throughout the day. Thank you for the draw, from the USA.

  • David Benedeck has truly established BDK Parfums as a house of exquisite and innovative fragrances. The 10th anniversary is a testament to the brand’s dedication and creativity. Camille Leguay’s review of Wood Jasmin vividly brings to life its rich, smoky, and fruity composition. Boozy, Rich , warm , Im all for it !! Gris Charnel extrait is my favorite because of that tea note next to velvet tonka .I think this would be standalone scent to have in a collection.

  • Wood Jasmin is an interesting take on its namesake flower, wrapping the leathery bloom around boozy fruit, davana, and vanilla. Everything about this perfume sounds rich, especially the “woody raisin like tobacco” melding with plum and pear and cherry, and an incense smolder to texture the balsamic notes. Cozy and decadent. Great review, J.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any BDK Parfums fragrances.

  • Honestly, this entire review made me desperate the try this fragrance! I am already a lover of Gris Charnel and Rouge Smoking. I am in the U.S.

  • This sounds very interesting and original! I love everything I have tried so far from this house, you simply cannot go wrong when you look for something in the BDK’s range of offerings! I cannot wait to try Wood Jasmin! Thanks!

  • So many wonderful perfumes, so little time. Your review of this was perfect, weaving the different notes throughout the review as they developed over time, it really sparked my interest and my imagination. I do not have a favorite, but I will need to try Gris Charnel as it sounds perfect for me. Congratulations on 10 years! Thank you for the wonderful review and the draw. I’m in the US.

My favourite BDK parfum is Gris Charnel! I haven’t try Wood Jamin yet but i’m sure i will love it! Gorgeous notes. Smokey white flowers envelope fruity balsamic heart. Pear, soft leather and davana in combination with jasmin send it straight to heaven! Love from Greece, EU!

This sounds amazing. I noticed that the word powdery came up multiple times in this article. It’s a new obsession of me. A worldly perfume with ingredients coming from all over the globe. I can tell from other BDK fragrances that they use top ingredients. Thanks for a chance at winning this! USA.

J’s review helped me to better understand how the different notes/accords interact with each other and the vibe this fragrance has to offer. Just the name, Wood Jasmine, is enough to garner my immediate attention, for I am a fan of both of these notes. My wife and I have quite a few BDK creations. Among which some of our favorites are Creme De Cuir, Gris Charnel (reg for my wife, extrait for me), and Pas Ce Soir Extrait. My favorite for the warm weather is Citrus Riviera 🙂
    Warmest Regards from the USA

  • foreverscents says:

What a lush melange of notes in Wood Jasmin. I am here for the plum, jasmine and vanilla. This rich fragrance surely must have the most sensual and smoldering dry down. I like how J. described Wood Jasmin as a lovechild of Shalimar and L’Heure Bleu. Gris Charnel is a masterpiece from BDK Parfums.
    I live in the USA.

  • absurdnose says:

This is a fantastic description J! I thoroughly love this scent. I’m so glad that BDK is on my radar due to the ever loved Gris Charnel which seems to be the darling of the beauty journalists I hear on podcasts and I can see why. I received a sample set recently and Jasmin Wood has won me over. There is something addictive about the combination of gorgeous woods at the heart of this fragrance. The plum, jasmine and warmth of the woody facets is really gorgeous. It reminds me of something familiar that I can’t quite put my finger on – maybe a throwback to earlier fragrances like Shalimar as J mentioned, but it’s still wholly unique in and of itself. Absolutely delicious! Happy 10 years BDK and bless you and CaFleurebon for the draw.

  • Thank you J for the detailed review of Wood Jasmin. It sounds stunning and has most of my most loved notes. Congrats to BDK for reaching the 10year mark. I’m yet to experience any of their fragrances and would look forward to start with Wood Jasmin. I’m in USA
