Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT Review (Marie Salamagne) 2022 + Wood Symphony Giveaway

Atelier Des Ors Noir by Nuit

Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT by Steven

“With Atelier des Ors the aim is to bring some mystery and aspiration to Haute Parfumerie along with poetic elegance”-Jean Phillipe Clermont

If you are along time reader of ÇaFleureBon, you might remember that I met the founder Jean-Phillipe Clermont at Esxence 2015, where he launched the inaugural line of five perfumes, which are now part of the Black Collection. Seven years later, Firmenich perfumer Marie Salamagne continues on as the House’s nose and has also composed the The White Collection, The Rivera Collection, The Eaux Collection, The Extrait collection and now the Collection Frivolité, PINK ME UP! (reviewed by Olya Bar here) and the caviar-infused Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT. Like PINK ME UP, Ateliers Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT uses a headspace technology proprietary to Firmenich called Nature Print.® Whereas PINK ME UP! is bright, bubbly fruity and floral, NOIR by NIGHT is rich, slightly green and a predominately woody fragrance with swirls of incense that weave in and out the opening of the composition. Despite the “caviar note”, I don’t detect much saltiness, or anything remotely aquatic. It is a wood symphony; Dreamwood © at the heart along with the sandalwood and guaiac form a woody triptyque that is polished and smooth. Cashmere Wood (aka Cashmeran©) with its slightly musky and spicy vibe rounds out the base. It is marketed as leaning masculine, but to me it is gender-fluid. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

TOP NOTES: Incense, Coriander: HEART NOTES: Caviar, Dreamwood© (using Firmenich clean technology it approximates the scent of the sought-after Mysore Sandalwood), Mate absolue, BASE NOTES: Cashmere Wood, Sandalwood
Guaiac Wood

  • “A wood symphony”.. thank you, Michelyn, I like it already. I’m very intrigued by the Nature Print technology, so I want to try this perfume badly. Steven, thank you for making me wanting it really badly.

    I am in EU/Portugal

  • The caviar nite is very interesting. I never heard of that note in any fragrance. I’m curious in how they used it in noir by night. But from the looks of the juice. It look rich and potent.

  • Very interesting note of caviar. I actually never heard of caviar note in any fragrance. I’m curious of how it was used in this fragrance. But from the color of the juice, it looks potent. Would love to have this.

  • Michelyn says despite caviar note Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT does not smell salty as is sometimes the case. Steven finds Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT to be dark spicy peppery and he also does not find the usual unpleasant side of caviar in fragrance. He also enjoys the incency twist to the fragrance. I am in US.

Is been just two months since I started to discover the fragrance world and I have added 20 + perfumes to my collection with the hope that once I get educated I can start my own channel.
My first perfume was from Initio Atomic Rose and I based my desicion on your reviews. This beautiful brand is still in my wish list and I will be lying if I say I am not dying for adding one of their master pieces to my collection, fully inspired.
    Thank you.

  • Michelyn & Steven! ❤️❤️❤️ Wonderful reviews! I love JP Clermont’s article in particular, as I’ve always wondered why they put gold in the bottles (now I know)! This new line sounds fantastic! Thank you for the wonderful opportunity! ❤️ USA

  • I thought that Michelyn’s review was really vast and beautiful. It was really enjoyable to read. I thought that Steven’s review was really professional. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. My takeaway from Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s article is that it was very helpful.

  • I was intrigued by Stephen mentioning the incense note and Michelyn saying it’s not salty but more woody, yet still unisex. Sounds like they struck a perfect balance. I love Lune Féline by this house and love a woods based fragrance so I am definitely wanting to try their newest offerings!
    I am in California

  • ramsesperez52 says:

I shockingly still don’t own any Atelier Des Ors fragrances yet but I’m dying to try them. I don’t have any incense fragrances either so this one leaked my interest as soon as I saw Steven talking about it. Plus, when have you ever seen caviar nite as a note on a fragrance? I’ve never seen it and it’s peaking my interest. Cheers from NJ/USA

  • Michelyn’s comments about this being a symphony of woods with incense swirling through makes it sound like this would be an excellent choice for this time of year, especially if you are attending any holiday events or parties. Steven’s description of the notes further intrigued me as I love a fragrance with mystery and he made it seem as if mystery is something this fragrance has in abundance. I’m sure there is a hefty does of exotics in this, as Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s article speaks about oriental and middle eastern style fragrances being a huge influence on the brand as a whole. Sounds like a versatile yet dark and sexy fragrance. Reading from North Carolina, USA.

  • Michelyn’s description of Noir by NIGHT as a “wood symphony” and Steven describing it as a mysterious, darker and exotic fragrance, perfect for a professional setting and lacking any sweetness, while still being rich, woody and spicy just made this perfume sound gorgeous.
The quote I’d like to use for my double entry is: “ I developed Atelier Des Ors to bring my passion for art, refined craftsmanship and beauty together. My dream is to create perfumes that fuse together these elements to give the wearer something they will be proud to wear, will take pleasure in and find some inspiration at any given moment”. Well, you are definitely achieving that, Monsieur Clermont!

    Thanks!

  • This one sounds amazing. And I’ve been wanting to try out Atelier Des Ors for a while now. I love how Steven described how the perfume is mysterious. The opening as described by him with all the spices sounds divine. And Michelyn did such a good job describing the sandalwood and guiac wood base. The incense note weaving through also sounds amazing!! Dark is how I like my fragrances, so I don’t doubt that I would connect with this.

  • AdventurousFox says:

This is a house I’ve first heard of here, in one of Michelyn’s articles, but have never tried any of their fragrance. Have never tried Dreamwood as well, but Cashmeran is one of the notes I enjoy. Just goes to show how much new technologies and synthetics can contribute in different ways and help create new olfactory experiences. Regarding the gender-fluid comment, lately I’ve been using more and more “male” designated fragrances and have gotten more compliments than with my usual niche or female-designated picks.

Love the bottles and presentation, especially on video. The incorporation of caviar note into a perfume that’s not marine or salty at all sounds intriguing. Usually I prefer how Michelyn describes perfumes in text, but Steven sold me on this one this time and I could almost imagine the smell based on description. Sorry, Michelyn! Keep putting out quality content, you’re my favorite fragrance content website.

    Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s:
I was so inspired by Jean-Phillipe journey with creativity. Sometimes you can just be called to create and you have to follow your instincts. I loved how his experiences with different cultures impacted his appreciation of scents and aromas.

    Noir by NIGHT
I love the idea of a mysterious and dark fragrance and doesn’t accentuate sweeter notes. I also think the use of the caviar note is really intriguing. Can’t wait to smell this fragrance!!

  • I was attracte to Michelyn mentionin there was some green, imixe with woo and incense. I lieked Stephen mentioning notes o cavier, which I have enoyedd in other perfumes. Please excuee all the errors. I have been swithout my computer for 2 weekks while it is being ixed, and this old one has non woring eys and no bacspace! So I loo like an imbecile. Thank yu for the draw. USA

  • Caviar note in a fragrance?! Hmmm… don’t know how I feel about it truthfully. Would love to give this a try. Would love to win! 🙂 best! From MA USA! Happy holidays!

  • The caviar note sounds very interesting.
And the slightly musky, spicy and sweet are right up my alley also.
Love the site and the creative reviews.

  • I’m so annoyed with a cafleurebon. One has to wonder how much traffic come to this site from YouTube reviewers.
Yeah, I haven’t smelled anything from this house and the review sounds great ( thanks Steven.)
    Hope I win!

  • Michelyn & Steven great review about Atelier Des Ors NOIR by night. Im a fan of this brand the black & white Collection. This Fragrance sounds interesting love the notes. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • I’m glad Michelyn mentioned that Noir By Night feels gender-fluid. Unisex fragrances are my favorite. Steven mentioned that it’s spicy and peppery. The incense also intrigues me. Thanks for another wonderful review and draw. Mich USA

  • I love the exotic part that it offers and the unique small that no one else will have . I dont like sweet smells do that’s a plus.

  • Michelyn’s review of Noir by Night was really interesting, especially how it seems to be a counter opposite of Pink me up with its woody notes and a supposed “caviar note” that doesn’t seem that prevalent. Steven’s review is a bit different in how its mentioned that it is actually a salty caviar note which makes it interesting how it might smell differently on each person, but a blend of caviar, incense, and woody note as mentioned definitely makes me interested on how it would smell. From TX, USA.

  • It’s not just one , or two things that I find thrilling about NOIR BY NIGHT , and I’ll start one by one
    a) the darker and almost mysterious nature of the fragrance,
    b) the new headspace technology called “Nature Print” Michelyn told us about
    c) the complexity of the fragrance
    d) the differences between Michelyn and Steven opinions . They agree about the darkness, the woody aspects of the fragrance, and the incense, but also
Steven -> peppery, salty , a bit rosy with “complete absence of anything sweet”
Michelyn -> no saltiness, or anything aquatic, no rose , no black pepper
    e) the fact that now NOIR BY NIGHT , and my favorite Atelier des Ors, Bois Sikar are part of the “Black Collection”
I’m a big fan of Bois Sikar, and I think NOIR BY NIGHT would be just as appealing.
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • really want to try this fragrance, actually i’m in central asia, but can receive it if i won in eu, pls contact me if i win

  • This one sounds like it would be right up my alley. I’ve never tried anything from this house, but I have longed from a far for more than one of their offerings. It sounded like Steven from Redolessence was at a loss for words a little bit. But he still conveyed enough that I am very intrigued and impressed. MicheIyn’s review was enjoyable well. I’m a big fan of eating caviar but rarely have the chance to buy it or eat it when I’m out these days. I’m curious as to how it smells in a scent. I hope I win! I am from San Francisco
    Cheers! ✌️Edward

  • Amazing review, that deeply explore this uncommon ingredient: caviar.
I loved the usual thorough notes explaination of Mychelin, and I am wondering if the incense note is that noticeable as Steven said.
From JP CLERMONT: In Lebanon (where I lived for two years) there were more delicious aromas with oriental pastries and necklaces of jasmine flowers sold in the street by market sellers.

  • Great review by Michelyn and Steven both mentioned that the caviar note is not polarising for example saltiness and that Steven said it wad peppery, dark and spicy has piqued my interest. I believe this time spent with my grandparents encouraged and inspired me to think about the importance of craftsmanship behind the objects. Jean Phillipe Clermont comment just show his attention to detail and how his family and surrounding have shaped his thinking and philosophy. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Despite the “caviar note”, I don’t detect much saltiness, or anything remotely aquatic. – Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief Brilliant review by both Steven and Michelyn that they both don’t detect the caviar note and Steven described it as dark spicy and peppery has reassured. me. I had a business that specialised in the retail of fine table glass and china. I spent many hours with my grandparents listening to all of the stories behind the creations, the manufacturing process, design and also the history of these pieces of art. Jean Phillipe Clermont just shows the hardwork and dedication to his craft hats off to him. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

  • Woody symphony, rich and a touch of green into Marie Salamange’s hands can be magic! Thanks from EU!

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

I like the way Steven talks about the incense notes. Michelyn makes the wood symphony sounds incredible. I’d love to win this. I am from Indiana.

  • Zoran Loncarevic says:

The cavier sounds very exciting in this perfume. I like very unusual scents and can imagine that I would like this one too . Many thanks to Steven, once again a great review

  • Stefan Cretu says:

The bottle itself, be it only filled with water and I’d still love to own it. Really love the direction they took with this particular bottle, a refined taste for sure. I own Lune feline and it’s a delightful fragrance, I can tell this one has potential too.

Yes I want my post to count twice haha 🙂
What I always loved about this brand is the aesthetics and you can tell it has little no no inspiration stolen from others and feels well established and built from the ground up, it emanates “passion for art, refined craftsmanship and beauty together”. Lots of love and effort put into it to bring it to this level. “I had a vision of what I wanted to create and I felt that there was a place for my dream.” There is always a place for our dreams.

  • Caviar and ‘dreamwood’ sound very different from what we are used to see in a fragrance that has ‘noir’ (black) in its name. I am very intrigued by these two notes.
I am based in EU. Thank you!

  • Thank you both Steven and Michelyn for the great reviews.
I’ve just found out that Dreamwood™ is the first Firmenich ingredient to feature cosmetic benefits. This whole synthetic ingredients industry is fascinating for me.
Steven presented Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT as an unexpected caviar scent which turns out to be an incense wood symphony.

I am impressed by the intensity of Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s childhood memories, memories of smells, sights, flavors … and their roles in the process of his formation as “entrepreneur of beauty”.
    Thank you for this opportunity.
    Hugs from Romania

  • From Michelyn I found out this fragrance is gender-fluid and Steven detected a bit of saltiness. Two helpful comments. US

  • I am thankful to Michelyn for a short introduction on the perfumer Marie Salamagne and for comparing Noir by Night to Pink Me Up, so I can have a bit of imagination about this fragrance, and also Steven beautifully described the notes of this fragrance in his video and gave his impression about this different kind of saltiness. And yet, caviar is the note that still keeps confusing me as in my imagination caviar would smell salty and slightly gourmand, but by description of these two authors, Noir by Night is more on a dark, pepperish side. I am immensely intrigued. I would love to have this unique and mysterious fragrance in my collection and experience it in different seasons. Lithuania, EU

  • I was very intrigued by Steven’s review. The combination of incense and woody notes really appeals to me. I’m also intrigued to see if I feel any salty notes here, since Michelin says she doesn’t really detect much of it. I didn’t know they used headspace technology to make this fragrance, although I would like to hear more about that whole process. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Thank you Michelyn for the explanation how the woods and incense mingle and for touching on the saltiness. Steven gave a great breakdown of notes but also the mysterious vibe. New Jersey, USA

  • When is saw caviar as a note i thought this might be an aquatic which I do not like as a genre. Thanks to Michelyn’s review it turns out its not aquatic or salty. Based on her review I believe this is a woody spicy scent that I enjoy. Steven’s review makes me want to try this as he described it as complex and mysterious. Thanks for the giveaway I live in EU.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

The fragrance brings confidence and elegance to the fore with a bold expression of silken caviar and rich woods. An elegantly intense opening of incense and dusky coriander drapes the evening shadows.

  • Oh boy. I am a huge fan of Atelier des Ors, being Lune Feline my favorite one so far, but this one surely seems amazing.
I love everything from it: the cashmere, the fruity accords and that it can be perfectly unisex is something that I would to have.
I hope I can win this one.

  • hippononamus says:

The immediate description about lost me, as I was never a caviar fan and as a now vegetarian, definitely don’t want it on my skin. So it was reassuring to read Michelyn’s take that it’s not very salty and more of a woods symphony, which is right up my alley. I really liked Steven’s description of the woods and his attempt to pinpoint the type of incense it gives off. As for a brand takeaway, I always found the gold flakes a bit gaudy/faux luxury, so reading Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s explanation for it made me a bit less judgmental.

  • Michelyn said Noir By Night is considered masculine leaning but is actually gender fluid. Personally, I enjoy wearing traditionally masculine fragrances, particularly dark and mysterious as Steven described. I am a fan of this house and particularly like Lune Feline. It would be so exciting to win a bottle! I live in Indiana.

  • Great reviews from Steven and Michelyn both, as per usual. This fragrance is one I’ve had my eyes on for a good while, so I’m ecstatic that you’re hosting a giveaway for it. The following quote from the article about Jean-Phillipe Clermont certainly intrigued me:

“We pay special attention to every detail and work on each perfume as if it was a piece of art. Perfume in itself can also be considered as a “métiers d’art”. This is very important. I like to say that Atelier Des Ors is grounded in the French classicsm but we are reinterpreting our heritage with a modern twist.”

This is why Atelier des Ors have taken a place in my top 3 niche houses, and Noir by Night seems to continue that style of French classicsm with a modern twist. I truly hope I can win a bottle.

    I live in Sweden, EU.

  • Silky woods, a hint of salty caviar and a dark incense accord; What’s not to love? Surely this would be an instant hit for me, which is why I’m dying for the opportunity of trying it. The whole article featuring Jean-Phillipe Clermont was interesting, but I’d say this part is the most interesting to me personally:

“The quest for beauty and a refined aesthetic are key for Atelier Des Ors and we do not like to compromise. The gold that we incorporate in our bottles symbolises the pursuit of perfection and the search for the absolute in ancient times. Gold was important to many cultures as a symbol of divinity and the ever lasting. Like gold, perfume (per fumum) was associated with the search for the divine, as priests in many ancient religions burnt incense to communicate with God.”

I find that approach to making fragrances interesting to say the least. I also had no idea that the purpose of incense in a religious context is to communicate with God, I always just thought it was for the smell.

    Writing from Sweden, EU.

  • The lush and silky woods, with a healthy dose of mysterious incense sounds absolutely beautiful and alluring. I hope to win this.

“I developed Atelier Des Ors to bring my passion for art, refined craftsmanship and beauty together. My dream is to create perfumes that fuse together these elements to give the wearer something they will be proud to wear, will take pleasure in and find some inspiration at any given moment. When I first started Atelier Des Ors I didn’t really look too hard at what others were doing. I had a vision of what I wanted to create and I felt that there was a place for my dream.”

This is really inspiring, and I certainly am proud to wear the gorgeous fragrance that is Rouge Saray. I hope my can expand my Atelier des Ors collection by adding this beauty.

    I live in the EU.

  • The bottle is a piece of art – as the others from this house! I had the chance to try a few from Atelier des Ors and I liked them all. I am sure that Noir by Night won’t be the exception.
    Thank you!

  • Michelyn’s introduction made me check Steven’s video. Michelyn got woody scent with incense weaving in which matches the name. Steven got guiac wood and sandalwood plus the caviar note. He also got incense that is earthy piney. As a fan of darker fragrances, I find this fragrance super interesting and I would love to try it.
    USA

  • I love Michelyn’s description of the woodiness of this perfume, and Steven’s description of how smooth and dark it is. I would love to win a bottle and check out the caviar note for myself! I’m in MN, USA

  • I love the Atelier bottle. It is so elegant and the black glass with good flecks is very dramatic. Both Steven and Michelyn mentioned the unisex nature of the fragrance. Steven focused on the incense note while Michelyn said it’s not a salty aquatic but rather a symphony of woods. Sounds lovely and very wearable. My takeaway from the Clermont article is that he was drawn to the Middle East and Asia when his parents moved to the West Indies and he realized he could become a global citizen. MD, USA.

  • I don’t believe I have ever used a caviar based fragrance, so Noir by Night sounds unique. Smells rich, slightly green, woody with hints of incense. Guaiac wood with peppery/ spicy notes also seems to be present in this fragrance. Versatile and unique smelling with gold flakes. Noir by Night seems to be worth experiencing soon.
    Maryland, US.

  • I liked how Steven described the caviar note and how this one is quite versatile despite the seemingly dark notes. I found it interesting in Michelyn’s intro that this fragrance uses a headspace technology proprietary to Firmenich called Nature Print. I also found it interesting that Jean Phillipe Clermont has lived in so many places, and how he describes pulling on his experiences for the fragrances in Atelier Des Ors. I am in NY.

  • Very interesting combination of ingredients. I never had an opportunity to smell caviar note. Not that I have big experience in the perfume world. It’s and interesting idea that Atelier des Ors didn’t make it into aquatic scent but rather an incense one. The bottle is a piece of art. So beautiful! I’m in love whit this black-gold approach. I’m based in EU.

  • I love green and woody fragrances, this One presenta a lot of notes I like. I’m so curious to try caviar not that I never tested.
    I live in Italy
    Thanks!

  • I find that Micheline’s and Steven’s review complete each other. Both makes me want to discover this fragrance, with its wood symphony, coriander, and caviar note that depending on the person can be more on the salty side. Thank you for the opportunity, from EU France.

  • My body is not so young anymore for PINK ME UP , but
NOIR by NIGHT is right up my alley.
I have no experience with the fragrance , but I know Rose Omeyyade , Lune Feline and Rouge Saray , and even the slight comparison between Lune Feline and
NOIR by NIGHT excites me . By comparison I mean Michelyn let us know the 2 fragrances are now listed in the same line , by the name of “Black Collection”
I’m always ready for a woody spicy , deep and rich fragrances. The lesser amount of saltiness is more than welcome
I do want my comment to count twice, so
“moved to the French West Indies and it was quite a shock for me, however I think it was also good too, as I realised I could be a global citizen in the world. I graduated from an International Business school and travelled for some time to explore the world. I was drawn to Asia and the Middle East. I also lived in Singapore and Beirut where I really fell in love with the culture in the Middle East, the literature, music, poetry, food and the lifestyle.”
Living abroad for a long time always changes your perspective, you can view the world from a few different angles.
Rose Omeyyade is my favorite Atelier des Ors fragrance , bought it because of Despina Veneti review, I hope she comes back at some point
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • I think Atelier des Ors makes fantastic fragrances and the gold aspect is really fascinating.
Loved how Michelyn has underlined the caviar note, and how Steven from Redolessence has put this perfume in the dark spicy peppery category…one of my favourite.
    Hope to win it
    Claudia, Italy

  • I need to try Collection Frivolité , PINK ME UP and NOIR BY NIGHT are indeed so different, from playful and fruity, to more grim and enigmatic composition, predominately woody, musky and spicy. I’m fascinated by the “headspace technology proprietary to Firmenich called Nature Print” , and I’d like to know all about it.
I know Steven said that there’s no sweetness in NOIR BY NIGHT, but I relate all fragrances to some sort of food, and I imagined making Red and black pepper, and coriander muffins.
All food content aside, NOIR BY NIGHT is a fragrance I would wear on the rare occasions when I have to wear a suit.

“There are some early memories of specific smells from this time that I can recall. My grandmother made pear jam from their harvest at their countryside house. The pear trees were organic and very old. The “Gateau Petit Duc”, home made caramel and “œufs au lait” deserts were always cooking and the smell filled her home each time I visited her for holidays.”

From the takeaway about the brand we had to post , I’m certain Jean-Philippe Clermont is my kind of guy. If you’re curious, and not familiar with culinary terminology

☆ “Gateau Petit Duc” is moist and delicate gluten-free cake Calisson Cake , made with calisson paste , it’s made of almonds, sugar, candied cantaloupe and orange

☆ “œufs au lait” is similar to Crème Brûlée.

Smelled 3 Atelier des Ors creations and Lune Feline is my favorite , even though Rose Omeyyade and Bois Sikar are pretty good too.
Lune Feline is part of my collection. Fantastic vanilla fragrance , iteminds me of Cinnamon and Cardamom Rolls, and it’s also quite smoky.Rose Omeyyade reminds me Pistachio & Rose water Semolina Cake with real rose water , and raspberries on top of it.
Appreciate the double review, and the giveaway campaign
    USA

  • Thanks for the review Michelyn and Steven!

Atelier Des Ors definitely has the most beautiful bottles of the industry. The golden flakes are the perfect finishing touch!

I have tried several fragrances, but found most a bit too feminine for my liking. I enjoyed Lune Feline, but I often look for more Green and Aromatic fragrances.
What really interests me about Noir By Night is that it’s a Green and predominately Woody fragrance with swirls of Incense.
I love everything about that description! The caviar note sounds very exciting too!

Steven’s review is perfect as usual. I already had a great impression from Michelyn’s review, but after Steven’s video I’m convinced this is a fragrance that will suit my style.

It has been a while since I read Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s article and it great to see that his partnership with Marie Salamagne is still going strong! Two incredible talented people behind this brand!

    Greetings from the UK!

  • NOIR by NIGHT is so much different, compared to all Atelier des Ors fragrances I’ve smelled until now , not in a bad way of course, but still different.
Dark , woody and I believe relaxing. The scent is almost made for the times I’m in need to reduce the levels of stress in my body , in front of the fireplace, drinking tea and reading a book .
“Despite the “caviar note”, I don’t detect much saltiness, or anything remotely aquatic.”
Such a good news, the “caviar note” scared me a bit.
I read the Jean-Philippe Clermont article, and my takeaway , with a quote is:
“I also lived in Singapore and Beirut where I really fell in love with the culture in the Middle East, the literature, music, poetry, food and the lifestyle.”
Such an amazing experience, and path he had , enjoying all aspects of life .
Since I’ve sampled more than half of Atelier des Ors fragrances , i have to say Iris Fauve, Rose Omeyyade , Lune Feline and Rouge Saray stood up to me the most.
Iris Fauve is what I decided to buy
    Thanks for the draw

  • Amazing reviews, as always! Michelyn’s description of “NOIR BY NIGHT” as a “wood symphony” and Steven referring to it as being on “the darker, more exotic, rich, mysterious side of things” definitely enticed my interest. Would love to try it! I live in Portugal, EU.

    Thank you!

  • As Michelyn and Steven said, I don’t find quitw prominent the note of caviar, which usually I dislike eveey kind of sea related notes, I have test this fragrance and it’s warm, intense, slightly peppery opening with a vanilla/ambery spiced at the end. I really enjoy it
    Greetings from Italy, Milan

  • I am very intrigued by the notes of caviar and dreamwood. Everybody who knew vintage Samsara knew how beautiful that sandalwood was. I am curious on how this new take from Firmenich stands out compared to the real deal.
I am in Europe. Thank you!

  • Amazing descritpion of the fragrance by both reviews, i enjoyed the description from steven for the caviar note.I live in Greece, EU

  • I like how Michelyn describes this fragrance as a “wood symphony”. Steven focuses quite a bit on the woody factor of this fragrance, too. His description of this being rich and deep without a hint of sweetness really caught my attention. It sounds mysterious.
    I live in the USA.

  • Michelyn made me curious about the incense facet of Noir By Night, and Steven describing it as salty and mysterious. Also, Jean-Phillipe Clermont‘s life and journey to creating Ateliers Des Ors sounds like a fairytale, nothing short of mind blowing. I am in the EU.

  • Thank you Michelyn and Steven for great reviews. Michelyn mentioned the technology called Nature Print. As far as I know, it was used to create caviar note in Noir by Night and champagne borne in Pink me up. That is super interesting indeed. Would love the results of this new invention. I’m wondering how the dreamwood note, mentioned by Steven, smells like. According to him it is rather mysterious composition and I hope one day I’ll have opportunity to smell it. I live in Poland, EU.

  • I haven’t tried a perfume with a caviar note before but both Michelyn and Steven make me confident that it’s not something that will dominate the whole composition but rather add a touch of saltiness to it. Would love to try.

  • I always enjoy the introductions by Michelyn and her historical notes on the perfumes. I learned about the use of Headspace technology by Firmenich from Michelyn’s introduction, though I don’t know what it is and how it’s used in perfumery. Will be great if Cafleurebon can have an article on this technology. Steven’s video reviews are always very informative as they give a good idea of what the perfume is about and when it’s most suitable and generally for whom. I have never, to my knowledge, experienced the caviar note on a perfume, so quite intrigued. I like dark, incense perfumes and Atelier des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT seems to be one. I am a Redolessence subscriber. Also, from the interview of Jean linked above, I learned how gold us used as a symbol of pursuit of perfection, and how his is influenced by the land of goblins and mysteries to create his perfumes. Thanks Michelyn for your introduction, Steven for his video review, and for linking to Jean’s interview. Appreciate the generous draw. I am from USA.

  • Michelyn describes Noir by night as a wood symphony with swills of incense. Steven talks about dark peppery spicy personality with aura of mystery! Yes I definetely want it! I live in Grece, EU!

  • Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT sounds like a classy evening wear, with smooth woody notes and dry incense. I’m glad Michelyn mentioned the caviar note; intriguing, but probably for the best that it’s subtle, even if I was hoping for some overt brine. I like the sound of a “wood symphony” regardless. Steven highlighted the spicy aspects of NOIR BY NIGHT. This take caught my attention: “There are a lot of ingredients in here, but they don’t take away from that salty, smooth, musky, woodsy thing that’s happening here, with a dash of pepper in the opening.” I also appreciate the “complete absence of anything sweet”; a dryer, less sweet fragrance is often more to my tastes.

Thank you for the reminder of your Creative Directors Jean-Philippe Clermont article. I love Clermont’s description of the countryside in Brittany and his “ancestor’s ground” full of mystery and storytelling. I also found his work with handmade cigars interesting and how it transformed into a search for complex perfume blends.

Really intriguing comment Ms. Michelyn made about the headspace technology. Sometimes we forget that fragrance is not just an art, but a science as well. Anecdotes like this demonstrate that fact. Steven’s review was on point…really enjoyed his scent breakdown. I’m a big incense and woody note fiend. The caviar note is interesting, wonder what element that adds to this scent. Appreciate the generous giveaway opportunity. Many blessings from Va, USA!

  • I wad expecting NOIR BY NIGHT to be quite challenging , but actually it’s not. The woody smoky characteristics, and just a bit of incense makes it perfect for the tailor store, I’ll gladly wear it while working with clients. It will be nice if the rose and pepper Steven smells are detectable on me too.
Honestly I can say Michelyn reassurance about the lack of actual caviar smell is more than welcome.
To me Atelier Des Ors equals class , beauty and creativity , and my best takeaway from Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s article proves that
“I developed Atelier Des Ors to bring my passion for art, refined craftsmanship and beauty together. My dream is to create perfumes that fuse together these elements to give the wearer something they will be proud to wear, will take pleasure in and find some inspiration at any given moment.”
Refined person , beaty , harmony, there’s a reason Atelier des Ors fragrances are so well suited for my lifestyle.
Lune Feline I’m happy to own. If i have to describe it with one word it will be phenomenal, gourmand notes are present, but still restrained, spices , tea , it smells sooo good
Thank you Michelyn, Steven , and Atelier Der Ors

I loved Michelyn’s and Steven’s review of Atelier Des Ors Noir By Night. Steven describes it as a dark mysterious fragrance that is salty musky peppery and woody fragrance with a nice touch of incense with a really nice versatility. Michelyn discovered founder Jean-Phillipe Clermont at Esxence 2015, where she loved his vision as creative director. I loved learning about his background in the countryside of France, but I think moving with his parents to the French West Indies when he was 17 really opened his eyes to experience all the culture and diversity of the world of perfumery. Firmenich perfumer Marie Salamagne has created the rest of this houses amazing fragrances since the initial 7 offerings in 2015 including the this release Noir By Night. I would love to try and win this amazing fragrance. I am from the USA.

Noir by Night sounds yummy – it would be interesting to smell how close Dreamwood is to natural Mysore sandalwood. Thank you both, Michelyn and Steven, for your reviews. Greetings from Riga, Latvia.

  • Very interesting reviews… Michelyn’s “smooth woody triptyque” sounds very attractive to me, I’d like to try frangrances from this house. And I like how Redolessence presents fragrance including its packaging. Flacon is beautiful, with those golden flakes and dark bottle… simple luxury. Thanks for a chance to win it. Greetings from Europe.

  • Both reviews sparkled my interest in this fragrance. I was not sure about the caviar note but your reviews really intrigued me. Especially since it does not get too salty and aquatic. Steven is great as always, and I want to try everything he reviews!

Michelyn’s review caused me to think that this fragrance is primarily a woody fragrance and not a marine fragrance, even though it has caviar as a note. When Steven said that it has a dark, mysterious personality to it, I became even more intrigued to try it. I hope to finally get to try something from this company: I’ve heard a lot of praise about their fragrances. I live in the U.S.A.

Here is a quote from that article which caused me to appreciate Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s way of thinking concerning his fragrance company: “When I first started Atelier Des Ors I didn’t really look too hard at what others were doing.”

Thanks for the reviews Steven and Michelyn.

Michelyns take that there is not much caviar detected is interesting to note. Once wonders what the caviar note comprises of.

On the other hand, Steven does mention some saltiness.

I do enjoy Iris Fauve from this house a lot.

    Greetings everyone
Craftsmanship, surch for perfection, no compromises , i admire people like Jean-Philippe Clermont . As a jeweler I can’t help but to be impressed by the use of gold , his actions and words:
-The quest for beauty and a refined aesthetic are key for Atelier Des Ors and we do not like to compromise. The gold that we incorporate in our bottles symbolises the pursuit of perfection and the search for the absolute in ancient times. Gold was important to many cultures as a symbol of divinity and the ever lasting. Like gold, perfume (per fumum) was associated with the search for the divine, as priests in many ancient religions burnt incense to communicate with God.-

-Despite the “caviar note”, I don’t detect much saltiness, or anything remotely aquatic.-
I know some would disagree, it’s understandable, but I believe caviar belongs to the table, and not in my perfume.
NOIR BY NIGHT is so -La nuit, tous les chats sont gris- famous French expression, it literally means ‘at night, all the cats are grey. Like the expression, the mysterious NOIR BY NIGHT conveys the idea that the night can easily deceive and confuse .
Paris After Dark – Walking the Streets as Night Falls is what Ms Camen and Mr Gavrielatos reviews made me think of.
    Big fan of Rose Omeyyade
Thank you , American living in Paris , France

  • The caviar nite is very interesting. I never heard of that note in any fragrance. I’m curious in how they used it in noir by night. But from the looks of the juice. It look rich and potent. I would really like to gift my wife this. And as always Steven does A+. Reviews on fragrances. Because of him I got a few.

  • Being Atelier des Ors fanboy I have smelled all of their fragrances, including the premium Extrait editions .Very few select places do carry the Extrait versions through, Jovoy, Saks and just a few others.
If I have to rate my favorite Atelier des Ors fragrances:
    1. Rose Omeyyade Extrait
    2. Lune Feline Extrait
    3. Bois Sikar

My opinion of NOIR BY NIGHT is much closer to what Michelyn is getting, compared to Steven’s thoughts. Rich, woody, smoky, green, I get all of these facets.

“Despite the “caviar note”, I don’t detect much saltiness, or anything remotely aquatic.”
    100%
There nothing aquatic on my skin too , and salt is barely detectable.
What I do clearly perceive, and to my surprise Steven do not is hefty amount of green Mate tea. In a way it smells like you dropped some leaves on the stove and they turned to ash immediately….

Jean-Philippe Clermont had such a good life growing up, loving family, moving around all over the world, and finding achievements did come true.

“My grandmother made pear jam from their harvest at their countryside house”.
My Grandma was making pear jam too , my God rest her soul.

  • I’m sorry for my Samsung keyboard , after the latest update the auto-correct is just … horrible
finding achievements did come true ?!? Unreal , i never meant to say such nonsense , i’ll have to double check what i’m posting from now on.

  • Wonderful reviews! I appreciate how Michelyn’s review puts in NOIR BY NIGHT context with all the other perfumes perfumer Jean-Phillipe Clermont has made for the house. That really helps me to appreciate the work and inspiration behind the scent. What I like about Steven’s review is how he describes the very distinct character of the guaiac wood as being so creamy and smooth and combining so well with the sandalwood. That sounds so appealing to me and i can’t wait to try it. My takeaway about the brand from Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s article was how his background growing up in the French countryside in Brittany with it’s stormy swells and grey seas contributed to his love for tradition and heritage inspiring his fragrances. I live in the US.

  • Great reviews – quite curious about the ingredient /notes breakdown by Michelyn and Steven – can’t say what I am expecting from a caviar note, and how the new synthetic woods smell compared to others that I have. Always love the Atelier Des Ors bottles and can’t wait to try it! I live in London, UK.
