Kajal IV review

The number four bears the weight of a symbolism that traverses cultures, beliefs, and epochs, standing as a universal emblem of stability and balance. The wholeness of the universe, the four elements, the four seasons, and the four cardinal points – connect us all.  And what better way of conveying the feeling of being anchored to the present moment than the vision of an infinite landscape, the one universal starting point, the cradle of humanity?

Kajal IV is a celebration of nomadic exoticism, echoing the wilderness of the African Savannah. The warm embrace of the Sahara breeze. The intoxicating allure of adventure. Infinite grains of sand form an undulating golden panorama, vast and untamed, blending harmoniously into spectacular glowing skies. Sun-kissed skin shimmers, evocative of the celestial stars soon to emerge. The gentle caress of a sultry, aromatic breeze encapsulates the elation of adventure. Our footprints may be a momentary reminder of our presence, but the memories we make last forever.” – a note from the brand.

The perfumer who was chosen to take on this task was Kevin Mathys from CPL Aromas Dubai. Kevin’s fragrant journey began in the beautiful landscapes of the French countryside, where, from a tender age, he was fascinated by the world of scents. One of his first fragrant memories was playing with all the colognes he could put his hands on and mixing and combining them. For Kévin, fragrances aren’t merely scents; they are emotional triggers that enable him to have a small but meaningful part in people’s lives and his creations draw inspiration from the richness of everyday life, be it a cherished memory, a soul-stirring song, or the breathtaking beauty of the natural world.

“If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa,” said John Hemingway. Having Africa on my bucket list, it’s not the first time that I had the mental exercise of imagining its smell, the sense of home that transcends time, distilled to its purest essence. I inhale and see the vision in Kajal IV.

The African sun ascends on the horizon, casting its warm embrace over the undulating sea of golden sand, untamed, unending. As the first rays of the sun touch the earth, crimson pale clouds slowly lift, making the endless horizon even vaster, with the last stars in the sky, shimmer, pale, banished by the light of the all-conquering sun.

Dubbed as being one of the “chameleon notes” in the world of perfumery, davana is the first ingredient that makes its present felt –powerful, warm, mixing its multifaceted richness with the boozy sweetness of rum and the deep purple-green aura of cassis. There is a hint of a camphoraceous undercurrent, the thread that whispers of distant open spaces that bring closer the call of adventure.

The sun ascends, a blazing noonday fire in the African sky, casting its fiery rays on the earth. Hot leather notes mix in with the exotic sweetness of blooming jasmine and palm flowers, arid, vibrant, sun-drenched, with the lines of the horizon trembling in the heat rising from the sun-scorched earth. The landscape, in the red hours of noon seems to have been painted on a hot canvas, with hasty strokes, and now the edges are softly melting, blending the colours together into rusty shades of hot.

The journey then leads us to a realm brimming with the lushness of nature’s treasures, an enchanting sweet Eden, in a rapid time-lapse that reminds me of a photograph taken with a slow shutter speed. The long light trails of the setting sun are transposed into warm notes of vanilla and musk, with lush palm trees and soft blurred shadows. A sweet freshness that is both exotic and tantalizing comes from the ripe sweet aroma of Khalas dates, the fruit of paradise.

i have always been a fan of Kajal. their creations are exotic. I love the the basenotes. I love the vision of the African Savanna “ The gentle caress of a sultry, aromatic breeze encapsulates the elation of adventure.” My favorite note: leather is being centered here. I love the imaging in Nicoleta’s review : “ The long light trails of the setting sun are transposed into warm notes of vanilla and musk, with lush palm trees and soft blurred shadows. A sweet freshness that is both exotic and tantalizing comes from the ripe sweet aroma of Khalas dates, the fruit of paradise.”

I would love to try it. USA

  • Kajal IV looks like a sweet, warm, airy leather inspired by Africa that incorporates the note of davana to reveal different sides of a leather note. I am in US.

  • The vivid imagery of the African landscape and the intricate progression of scents in Kajal IV described by Nicoleta are truly captivating. The way the fragrance is described, from the warm embrace of the Sahara breeze to the lushness of nature’s treasures, creates a compelling olfactory journey. The combination of leather, sweetness, and warmth seems like a beautifully intricate and immersive experience.
Unfortunately I haven’t tried many Kajal’s fragrances but from what I’ve tried Dahab was my favorite!
I am from the EU (Germany)

  • I love that it’s sweet and aromatic. The dates, rum and davana interest me the most. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • I have only recently tried a few of Kajal’s fragrances and have been quite impressed with the quality. My only regret is not getting to try this one yet because it sounds amazing. I have been trying to incorporate more leather fragrances into my collection and this sounds like a very interesting one. I really love the idea of dates, cardamom, and boozy touches all swirling around a leathery core. It would be perfect for the colder weather we ae finally getting here in the south. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • The description how this perfume is perfect for moonlit solitary walks really sparks my interests. This is something I really enjoy doing by the way. The leather note must be magical in this scent. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I never tried Kajal so I don’t really have a favorite but I think IV is something I’d really enjoy and connect with.

  • Love Kajal fragrance house. So many wonderful gems. I’m excited about Kajal IV. The notes are sweet, warm perfect for Winter. Nicoleta’s review & Pics transform me to Africa. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Unforgettable review i have to say , thank you Nicoleta ♀️
Such an interesting, adventurous, and at the same time sophisticated fragrance, I can make a statement wearing Homme IV.
Nicoleta’s review was like a fairy tale from the Middle East , with cassis , rum , dates , leather and reasonable amount of sweetness.
Thank for the note from Kajal , and the introduction with Kevin Mathys
My favorite Kajal fragrance is Joorie, high quality spicy sweet rose ,with honey , I like it a lot.
    Thanks for the draw

  • The journey described here sounds amazing, and I love that it can be worn in cold weather, as the notes list alone seems tailored for summer. I live in the U.S. and have yet to try a Kajal fragrance.

  • Theenzoftheworld says:

Did you say boozy sweet warm bubble? Yes please! Reading the notes on Fragrantica I was expecting for Rum to be the star of the show here but it seems like it’s more of a team player! I’m wondering if it comes off as ‘dry’ as the marketing would seem to suggest. Big fan of Kajal and this review – would love to win! Would Ship to Pittsburgh, PA if I win.

  • As the review describes this fragrance as a cozy boozy-sweet warm bubble I am naturally very interested. Especially because I love rum notes, my favorite kind of boozy note for sure. I also love leather and I’m interested in experiencing the palm flower note too. I’m form Illinois, US.

  • It’s almost like Kajal Homme IV was made for me. When I read about Kajal speaking of the the desert, adventures , sun-kissed skin , and memories that last forever , and Kevin Mathys cherishing such emotions … i felt like Homme IV is beautiful desert like continuation of my two favorites from Kajal, Dahab and Lamar.
Nicoleta’s take on the fragrance, together with Kevin Mathys background made me think of being in Casablanca, Morocco, and eating Dates , Pistachio and Cardamom Cake, drizzled with Rum, while sitting on a leather couch.
The whole picture, the cake and the breeze from the desert is how i believe Homme IV will smell.
Appreciate the review, learning about Kevin Mathys, and the giveaway campaign

  • This sounds magical. Sounds like it could take you places both figuratively and literally. The elements come together on this on to paint a picture rarely seen. I would love to see as well as own it. From Jacksonville, NC thank you for the opportunity.

  • Wonderful african sunsets, the warm colors of the desert landscape, is Kajal IV all this? Great review, unfortunately I don’t know this brand.

  • It sounds like a transcendent fragrance. From the review it gives me a feeling of a journey via most sacred places on our planet to reach the destiny, such as the Nativity. I´ve always been drawn to pictures of Saharan desert, its universality.

  • Hello from Florida, and thank you to Nicoleta for the review!

Davana and dates are two of my favorite notes, but both are so rare to encounter. Kajal IV sounds like a gorgeously multifaceted leather scent, and I’d love to give it a try!

  • I like the connection with our ancestors that this fragrance gives to Nicoleta. Very curious to try it. Greetings from Italy milano

  • Pictures are SO mouth watering. I love dates and rum notes in perfumes. Africa is always interesting inspiration for perfumes. I’m from eu.

  • Like Kevin Mathys i too believe fragrances are emotional triggers
Kajal Homme IV sounds really good , very much a refined yet valiant fragrance, with some classy leather , boozy sweetness, cassis, and Khalas dates . Nicoleta Tomsa made me think of a future classic coming from the desert and the palm trees , and I like the natural feeling of Homme , something important to me.
The quality of omme IV is definitely there , and I can’t stop admiring the designer’s work , Kajal hired someone very talented , astonishing work again. I tend to believe the fragrance will suit me well .
Homme II and Dahab are in my possession
Thank you Nicoleta Tomsa , Kajal , Kevin Mathys

Heard so much of the house of Kajal! Didn’t have the opportunity to try any of them yet, but I have some on my watchlist and after Nicoleta’s review this goes right there (it’s such a long list it almost hurts to look at… so many beautiful reviews and fragrances). Nicoleta’s description of it being bold, strong and multifaceted pulls me right in, this describes all of my all time favourites, I love big smells. I love that has an introspective part, also. I’m. currently in Romania, Europe. Thank you!

  • Unexpected from Kajal the African theme but I love leather and would like to try this especially for the Davana, rum and dates. I live in the Eu

  • What sparked my interest based on Nicoleta’s review is how davana is the first ingredient which makes a statement with its multifaceted richness, combining with the boozy sweetness of rum and the deep purple-green aura of cassis. Davana is dubbed as being one of the “chameleon notes” in perfumery. I’ve never tried any Kajal perfumes. Thank you for the opportunity. New York, USA.

  • Nicoleta described it as fresh AND sweet. And with the leather coming in I’m sure that adds a tad of earthy darkness. This would be interesting. Thank you Nicoleta. I’m in US

Kajal IV has fascinating notes that include floral, smoky, and woody elements. I am positive these notes create a unique and intriguing fragrance experience. I haven’t tried a Kajal fragrance before, it could be a great opportunity to explore this particular scent profile. I have heard noting but great things about this house.

Thank you Nicoleta, this was pure delight to read and look at! The imagery is beyond captivating. The colors in the images draw me in so much – and they correspond with the color scheme on the bottle. Kajal’s oriental exoticism is bold and subtle at the same time. I like their approach of encapsulating big universal ideas that every one of us can relate to. I love the choice of a perfumer whose creations draw inspiration from the richness and endless beauty of everyday life. The majestic beauty of African landscapes makes me think of being silent as one is bound to go breathless to take it all in. The notes used in Kajal IV are an amazing mix that indeed seems to evoke a painting on a hot canvas. I am instantly sold on the cozy boozy-sweet warmth with a distinct projection. My favorite from the house so far has been Dahab, however I see it being dethroned by Kajal IV. Thank you from the EU

  • Another evocative, awesome review! What sparks my interest in Kajal IV is Nicoleta referring to it as “intense enough to draw all eyes on you, if you choose it to pair it to a jaw-dropping outfit on your nights out, and yet smooth and deliciously introspective, making it a perfect partner on your moonlit solitary walks.” It sounds truly perfect!

    Thank you All!

  • I already wear Kajal Homme (I) on almost all occasions, 3 bottles i bought in US , and recently my fourth from Ausliebezumduft , one of premier German niche boutiques. It’s one of my staples, and I know I’ll buy 5th too.
I know a few other Kajal fragrances, but not the the brand’s two new Homme editions. It seems to me Homme IV is high end , refined and alluring upscale fragrance with some nomadic exoticism . The perfumer Kevin Mathys based on memories approach i like a lot.
The good thing is that Homme IV changes quite a bit, something I nourish . Palm trees, leather, sweetness from the dates and rum , the fragrance sounds captivating. Nicoleta Tomsa is impressed too , always a good sign.
As usual Kajal heavy metal caps, and the whole presentation is top notch
    Thanks to all involved

Sounds like a warm embrace on a cold day. A reminder of sunnier times, and an inspiration to nurture the flower vines and to remember to reach for next year’s harvest.

  • Kajal Homme IV i believe is fragrance with a strong character , filled up with the best of the best spices , rum , leather , dates , and other ingredients. Well dosed sweetness is always appreciated, if it’s not rotting tooth sweetness, thankfully it’s not. The unique palm flower i think will make Homme IV bit more livelier.
Without a doubt special occasions only perfume , you keep in your wardrobe, and use 3-4 times per year. Weddings, the opening of La Scala in Milano Italy, a date with a classy lady, on such occasions I would wear it.
It’s also interesting how the perfumer said he’s work is inspired by the richness of everyday life.
Dahab and Masa are my favorites from Kajal , both are in my possession
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA

This perfume sounds great, especially for winter. The notes are what I like. I’ve never been to Africa but I can experience what Nicoleta wrote anyway. Never tried this brand before. I live in the EU.

  • Nicoleta’s storytelling about the awesome smells in Kajal IV is super cool. Picture the African views and smells, like the warm Sahara wind and nature’s good stuff. The mix of leather, sweetness, and warmth makes it a really wonderful experience.

  • “The sun ascends, a blazing noonday fire in the African sky, casting its fiery rays on the earth. Hot leather notes mix in with the exotic sweetness of blooming jasmine and palm flowers, arid, vibrant, sun-drenched, with the lines of the horizon trembling in the heat rising from the sun-scorched earth. The landscape, in the red hours of noon seems to have been painted on a hot canvas, with hasty strokes, and now the edges are softly melting, blending the colours together into rusty shades of hot.” Very descriptive, managing to conjure up a picture of a perfume straight out of the African landscape. I love booze in perfume, and especially rum, so everything points to this being a love of mine.

    I live in Sweden, EU.

  • I have always love the creativity behind Kajal’s creations.
the take on African Savanna is quiet unique as we only have some few fragrances with this theme.

I would love to try it out

  • A perfume inspired by the cradle of humanity instantly draws attention. Cardamom, musk and leather are also notes I would expect in a fragrance envisioning Africa and Kajal IV sounds stunning. I’m in TX USA

  • I haven’t tried too many fragrances that take Africa as an inspiration. The spices, dates and davana note seem to sweeten and warm the leather notes. I haven’t tried any Kajal fragrances yet. I’m in the US

  • You had me at Leather , Booze and Dates. I really appreciate the statement of scents being emotional triggers, as I have a bottle of Black Suede that was my grandfather’s before he died in 1987 and every time I smell it, it reminds me of him and takes me back to that time. My favorite Kajal is Lamar.

  • I love the sense that Nicoleta’s review gives of Kajal IV being boozy and sweet and cozy under a hot desert sky. I’ve love the opportunity to try it! I’m in MN, USA. I’ve only tried Lamar before but I was impressed and looking forward to trying others from the brand!

  • Another new gem by Kajal , diamonds are indeed forever and ever , like in the song , so Hello Homme IV.
Dahab is the only Kajal fragrance I know, it smells like picnic basket full of fruits , juiciness and other surprises.
In terms of scent profile Homme IV is unlike Dahab , yet in terms of quality it’s cut from similar elaborate cloth , high end fragrance i can wear on to parties with a few cocktails.
Leathery , sweet , boozy , cassis and dates fragrance .. here i come mystical aroma from the African desert .
I believe Homme IV fits me really well , “Lady Boss” fragrance , howdy again Michelyn
I’ll treat myself with Ron Zacapa Royal, Grand Reserve Special premium Dark Rum inspired by Nicoleta Tomsa , and Kevin Mathys naturalistic approach , he knows how to use rum well in fragrances , Voyage A Paris by Fragrance Du Bois is awsome
Cheers , and thank you for the opportunity

  • The words and images Nicoleta used to describe Kajal IV inspired a profound sensation of warmth, even heat to me. Also, the notes that seem to be the stars of this fragrance are all in rich tones of copper, gold and brown: leather, rum, dates…so what a promise of the richest, most noble blend!
    Commenting from EU.

  • African magic, leather, cardamom, dates, davana – sounds so appealing!
“A comfortable and cozy boozy-sweet warm bubble, it makes for a wonderful perfume for cold weather” – that is what we all in the North need now, when approaching one of the four cardinal points of the year.
I have never tried Kajal fragrances, unfortunately they are not available in my country, so I will take my opportunity to participate in the draw, thank you!
    I live in Latvia, EU

  • I love leathers and this seems like a very interesting one, being paired with boozy, warm and floral notes.
    I’m in the EU.

  • What a cool bottle! Reminds me a bit of a puzzle box, and will be equally striking on a shelf. It sounds like Kajal IV makes the most of a strong davana note, the sweet character enhanced by date later in the progression, and balanced by elements like leather and a floral heart. Like Nicoleta mentioned, it’s surely a warming cocoon for brisk winter days.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any Kajal Perfume fragrances yet. Thanks for the giveaway!

I enjoyed reading Nicoleta”s review very much. I have never been to Africa, but I thought about how the notes in Kajal IV evoke the vastness, the splendor, the lushness of the African continent. I love leather fragrances and would love to wear this one on my moonlit solitary walks. The date note really intrigues me. I haven’t tried anything from Kajal.
    I live in the USA.

  • The thing that sparked my interest was the phrase : boozy cozy. I really enjoy the notes as well.I live in Greece, EU.

  • Michael Prince says:

What sparks my interest based on Nicoleta’s review is first that I love Kajal Perfumes. Their spicy, aromatic, and Middle Eastern style DNA that is still very accessible, wearable, and truly unique. I own Kajal Homme II and love it. I also really enjoyed Kajal Homme I. I’ve really been wanting to try these newest releases Homme III and IV. With the Cardamom, Rum, and Leather as notes Nicoleta makes this sound amazing. My favorite perfume from Kajal Perfumes is Fiddah. I am from the USA.

  • Nicoleta did a great job with her review of Kajal Homme IV. Funny thing is I knew about both Homme III and IV mid 2022 , during a live with Instagram fragrance influencer and Moe Khalaf, one subscriber said he had Homme and Homme II, and asked if there’s plans for III , IV and V , and Moe Khalaf slipped up a bit , and said at the beginning of 2023 there will be two new Homme editions released. The other interesting thing he said , was that they do have plans to either discontinue the original Homme, or “re-imagined” it , but are still not sure what to do about it, “We’ll see” – he’s exact words back then. Homme I is still on the market, but I’m curious if Moe continued their plans for the “re-imagining” the fragrance… Sometimes I wonder why I even remember such things, in such details…but I do.
Back to Homme IV now , and the wonderful job by Nicoleta . Comfortable high quality leather, rum , well dosed sweetness, more fruity than musky cassis and woody nuances in the base. I 100% agree with Nicoleta’s thoughts about Homme IV being jaw dropping mysterious fragrance, it really is. As a whole I’m almost on exact same page with her this time, the only difference is, I also get hefty dose of cardamom on my skin.
I know all Kajal fragrances , and if I have to rate my favorite ones :
    1.Lamar/Almaz
    2. Homme IV/Dahab
    3.Kajal Homme
All profiles I already follow, @waltherp99bg . I also follow @eaudemoe , Moe Khalaf side project , and designer Omar Ayoub , the true genius behind Kajal bottle design
    Thanks a lot

I like the spice market sentiment, with leather, rum and Khalas dates.
My favorite Kajal perfume is Homme II.

Thanks for the wonderful writeup Nicoleta.

I’ve heard a lot about Kajal and this fragrance is an interest departure from the usual vision.

I love the use of davana, spices to create warmth and a sense of the exotic and adventure. The use of leather and florals to create a movement into vanilla and musk really makes this fragrance wearable.

I have no had the chance to smell other fragrances from this brand.
