Teo Cabanel Deja Vu by Teo Cabanel
When Patrice Revillard is working with iris, you know it will be an interesting fragrance, full of personality and pizazz. He’s the perfumer who claimed L’Iris de Fath as one of his first works, by winning the competition organized by the brand Jacques Fath to re-create its mythical perfume from the 40’s: Iris Gris and recently Jacques Fath L’Iris de Fath L’Eau de Parfum. His work for Teo Cabanel’s latest fragrance, Deja Vu, is a playful and addictive Bubble Gum wrapped with a vintage lipstick sensuality that iris tends to bring to the table. A real perfumed bubble, this familiar scent, so retro, is a pop of juicy bubble gum accord we often find comforting and a succulent filling of a raspberry, which kicks the flavor of the gum into something jammy and bright.

An irresistible combo of floral, fruity, and musky notes with a touch of faux leather make for an elegant and casual fragrance. It recalls a vintage lipstick scent with a soft powdery contrast of florals and berries lingering inside a leather minaudière bag. This is a grand fragrance and contrasts the moods of modernity and classics. It takes me back to the careless days of my childhood and bubble gum vending machines and on the dry does switches gears into something sensually classic, and stunning. Hence the name Deja Vu seems like a perfect fit.
Hollywood Hair Barbie in Box with Magic Hair Mist 90’s Barbie Doll
Teo Cabanel Deja Vu is a big, bold play on the iris. It’s buttery, vivid, and claims the rooms upon its entry, yet it also has a fun facet of its personality that makes me think of an old Barbie doll. I used to love playing with these perfect dolls with long blonde hair, and that plasticky bubble gum smell hitting me when I would unbox my first-ever Barbie doll. Hollywood Hair Barbie in Box with Magic Hair Mist 90’s Barbie Doll to be exact, and the coloring mist for the stencil that was meant to be applied over the golden blonde hair and produce these beautiful pink little hearts had this berry sweet bubble gum and fruits kind of smell to it, and I loved it. I was practically addicted to it as a kid. Now so many years later, Deja Vu transported me to that moment almost instantly, putting a big smile on my face as I slowly inhaled its soft, powdery aroma.

I don’t have to tell you about the power of scents to bring memories, and that is the main reason I consider this passion a never-ending quest to collect moments and memories into the sensory treasure chest we all have within us. It is beautiful to have the opportunity to explore, write about and share with anyone willing to listen. With the obsession with “Barbiercore” and a highly anticipated Barbie movie coming out July 31st, Teo Cabanel always seems to be in tune with the latest social trends. Positioning itself as a brand which is listening closely to their consumer Teo Cabanel Deja Vu embodies the socioeconomic movement of now but also the much-needed ode for old glamour.
