Zoologist Harvest Mouse Review (Luca Maffei) 2023 + Making Hay Draw

Zoologist Harvest Mouse

Zoologist Harvest Mouse courtesy of the brand

Pillowed and hushed on the silent plain,
Wrapped in her mantle of golden grain,

Wearied of pleasuring weeks away,
Summer is lying asleep to-day,—

Where winds come sweet from the wild-rose briers
And the smoke of the far-off prairies fires;

Yellow her hair as the golden rod,
And brown her cheeks as the prairie sod;

Purple her eyes as the mists that dram
At the edge of some laggard sun-drowned stream;

But over their depths the lashes sweep,
For Summer is lying to-day asleep.

The north wind kisses her rosy mouth,
His rival frowns in the far-off south,

And comes caressing her sunburnt cheek,
And Summer awakes for one short week,—

Awakes and gathers her wealth of grain,
Then sleeps and dreams for a year again.” –
Harvest” by Emily Pauline Johnson

Never one to go for the obvious, Zoologist’s Victor Wong has an impeccable knack for selecting just the right perfumer to interpret the members of his scented menagerie. His perfumes defy cliches, twisting the wearer’s expectations of how a perfume labelled Cockatoo, Hyrax, or Squid should smell. These fragrances summon not only the animal and its environs but often give an oblique, sometimes poetic, reading of the subject. Consider Zoologist’s Tyrannosaurus Rex (Antonio Gardoni) with its uncanny reek of destructive power and blood hurtling towards an inevitable fiery conclusion; Hummingbird (Shelley Waddington), whose floral notes flutter almost drunkenly between opulent honeysuckle and shimmery mimosa; or Squid (Celine Barel), with its moody, indigo coldness and Japanese temple incense and calligraphy notes.

Luca Maffei perfumer

Luca Maffei, courtesy of Zoologist

For Zoologist Harvest Mouse, whose earth-warmed, bready odors recall a tumbling  Fielding countryside, Luca Maffei was an inspired choice. Maffei – one of our most elegant composers – might be a surprising selection for the humble field mouse. But smelling Harvest Mouse, I smiled: Maffei takes what might have been another pleasant, autumnal fragrance and adds a sheen of refinement. He offsets Harvest Mouse’s wheaty proletarianism with a graceful chypre structure and burnishes the composition with rich resins and creamy woods. Avoiding pumpkin spice or campfire clichés, Maffei and Wong create pure, autumnal deliciousness that is as comfortable as a pair of broken-in jeans but with the timeless sophistication of a classic Burberry cashmere.

Zoologist perfumes Harvest Mouse

The Harvesters, Pieter Breughel the Elder

My first impression of Zoologist Harvest Mouse is that it bears similarities to Chanel Coromandel – woolly, ambery woods dotted with rose. But within a few seconds, a hoppy beer note intrudes and jumps into a hay bale. I have got to say that I have never encountered beer in perfume before, but here it is absolutely addictive; yeasty and malty, more fruity English country ale than sudsy Bud. As I get drawn in by the beer, the coumarin-rich hay note expands and suddenly, I’m in an olfactory rendering of Breughel’s Harvesters: whiffs of cut wheat, woods, and the promise of some merrymaking tomorrow when the sheaves are bundled.

In the top, light citrus and soft herbal notes offset the sweetness of the bakery notes to come, with davana and bergamot adding some complementary bitterness and afternoon glimmer. Balsamic notes bring density and warmth, while sandalwood joins vanilla, orange blossom, and benzoin in creating the fragrance’s creaminess. I am a big fan of hay in perfumery, and Harvest Mouse doesn’t disappoint but neither does Maffei overwhelm the fragrance with coumarin; it is decidedly present but perfectly blended. What really captures me, though, is the rose note in the heart and the way it berries and silk sophistication sidles up happily to the trestle table for a beer and hunk of bread. It is unexpected, endearing, and quietly lovely.

Zoologist Harvest Mouse

An hour later, that beer note keeps calling me back, and when I raise my wrist to recheck Harvest Mouse, I get that creamy, woodsy, hay-and-rose center, smelling like one of those crumbly baked confections that feature in Bon Appetit spread of country picnics. If someone could make some viennoiserie out of this fragrance, it would knock cronuts out of existence. Another dab of bitterness, this time from oakmoss, recalls its chypre antecedents and helps provide Harvest Mouse with its intrinsic sophistication.

A few wags have noted that Zoologist Harvest Mouse lacks the bigness of some of Zoologists’ other perfumes. To that I say, it’s a mouse, people. A huge campfire or pumpkin spice scent for the tiny field creature would be as wholly out of place in Zoologist’s ethos. For me, Harvest Mouse is perfect for the brief: notes of faded golds and yellows that mark the sun and summon hay wains. Winter can be wearing, the world unforgiving at times. But chewy-soft and warm, with that subtle wink of humour (delivered by the jaunty beer note) that is a defining characteristic of the brand, wearing Harvest Mouse feels like a gentle hug from the kind of kind-hearted, cheeky friend you can always pick up with where you left off. I’m already thinking about a bottle.

Notes: Bergamot, cloves, roman chamomile, orange blossom, davana, hay absolute, benzoin, opoponax, rose absolute, beer extract CO₂, fir balsam, oakmoss, cedarwood, sandalwood, peru balsam, vanilla.

Disclaimer: Sample of Zoologist Harvest Mouse kindly provided by Scent Bar, New York. My opinions, as always, are my own.

Wow… living here in Northwest Oklahoma, we have our share our little harvest mice – when the fields turn gold, and the wheat smells full and sweet, the harvesters reap the countryside and the little creatures run scurrying into the town, their mouths full of wheat berries and kernels and tufts of dusty hay… and they look for an untidy pantry or root cellar to throw a summer party in.

Our little critters are slightly more annoying and less sophisticated than their delightfully imagined zoology counterpart – however the air here is swimming with that hoppy, grainy, sweet scent of spring Capricorn as the wheat reaches up to the sun and offers up the last drops of water in their vein.

I’m not sure the intrigue of Tyrannosaurus Rex could ever be matched for me in the lineup – but I have a feeling, that Harvest Mouse would be a fond familiar feeling to me, that i would enjoy wearing, and sharing.

  • You had me sold on creamy and hay! So unique! My favorite from zoologist is Hummingbird but I’m also a huge fan of Cockatiel too.

  • The mouse in a tweed cap had my heart but reading about the beer notes captured me totally. I have great memories of driving by a local beer manufacturing plant and always making sure to roll down the windows to get a whiff.

I was intrigued by the mention of beer in Lauryn’s review. I don’t believe I’ve encounterd beer in a fragrance before either. I tried Chipmunk and found it to be a pleasant nutty fragrance. I live in Maryland USA.

The description of this new Zoologist scent is very exciting. My hometown is very rural and has a brewery. So, the scent of hay and barley and hops interplaying together are very nostalgic. It’s such a unique smell that puts me at peace immediately. I am so impressed that Zoologist have been able to capture that golden hue that comes along with that scent and would love to try it and be transported… well.. home.

  • What strikes me the most is the talk of a hoppy beer note. I don’t have a Zoologist fave. US

  • Gentle hug from a kind-hearted, cheeky friend. – Zoologist Harvest Mouse seems to be a happy, comforting perfume, from Lauryn’s review. What a lovely set of notes too, though I must say I have never tried a perfume with the beer note. Unfortunately I haven’t tried anything by this brand, yet, so no favorites, yet. Thanks for the review and a very generous draw. From continental United States.

  • Love that ‘pure autumnal deliciousness’ quip. Couldn’t agree more. I find Harvest Mouse to be exceptionally comforting, yet with an interesting energy that rivals the unique invigoration emanating from the centre of a crop circle. Hobbits immediately came to mind for me, perhaps because of their infamous fondness for hoppy meads. But I honestly never noticed the Coromandel similarity! Very striking… Ditto with the rose that Lauryn mentioned in the mid. I’ll have to look for it! What I do recall is the hay-ish davana and benzoin that put me in the realm of Corticchiato’s Tabac Tabou but smoother and almost powdery. Fantastic stuff and probably in my top 3 from Victor alongside Camel and Bee. Another superb review!! Haven’t smelled Tiger yet though! Fingers crossed it growls with ferocity. Canada.

  • Bonnie J Beck says:

What really struck me about Lauryn’s review of Harvest Mouse is when she compared it to Coromandel upon first sniff. I live in California.

  • Steve Fernandez says:

Hello. What strike me about Zoologist Harvest Mouse is the hoppy beer note that Lauryn mentioned. I haven’t really dived into Zoologist fragrances. Getting this sample pack would really help me familiarize myself with the house.

  • Lauren mentioning that Harvest Mouse reminds her of Chanel Coromandel is an interesting tidbit. To see where it goes off on its own will be fun. Beer extract is a note I haven’t smelled yet, but I can imagine it just from all the ales and lagers I’ve drank in my lifetime. This is a very generous offer to try such a large catalog, exciting chance. Thank you for the opportunity, Southern California here.

  • hippononamus says:

The beer note intrigues me the most of course. I’m in the US. I’ve only tried the original bay and macaque yuzu and find OG Bat to be incredibly unique.

  • What strikes me about it based on this review is the beer note. I’m a fan of wheaty and malty notes and wish they were easier to find in perfume! I’m in New York, and my favorite Zoologist fragrance is Musk Deer.

  • this review is so evocative-i love the artwork addition too. the hay and bready notes sound so interesting, as does the beer note. as a child i baked with my dad on occasion and one thing we learned together was medieval (i think?) beer bread. this description is calling that experience to mind and the perfume itself sounds so warm and inviting.

i’ve tried a few zoologist perfumes and so far my favorites are civet and elephant. civet because it reminds me of other classics i love and elephant because it doesn’t smell like anything else i have!

  • The first time I’ve heard about Zoologist was from Bat and have been intrigued since. There seems to be a lot of notes in this fragrance and even some that were new to me like coumarin, but I’m interested to see how the fragrance blends together and merges over time on my skin. Lauryn did an incredible job detailing how the fragrance changed over time, the different notes within, and how suitable it is for the Autumn season. My current favorite from Zoologist is Bat. From TX, USA.

  • Zoologist is one of my favorite houses; I have always loved the concept of the house and the originality of the creations. I was excited to try Harvest Mouse after learning of its release and tried it recently. I agree with Lauryn that it evokes anything but pumpkin spice or campfire cliches. Although it is autumnal and delicious, it is refined and not at all cloying. I also enjoy the beer note and agree that it adds an addictive yeasty and malty quality. Like Lauryn, I am a huge fan of hay in perfumery; in fact, it’s one of my favorite notes. The hay is done quite well in Harvest Mouse and it still retains its uniqueness. It might not be a heavy hitter or hard to wear like some Zoologist creations, but it’s perfect for a harvest mouse. It is perfect for autumn, but I think it would smell just as lovely in the spring.

It’s hard to choose one favorite from Zoologist, but if I were forced to choose I would say Moth. However, I greatly enjoy Bee, Chipmunk, Cockatiel, Cow, and Elephant as well. I still have not tested all of Zoologist’s fragrances and would love to do so.

Thank you, Lauryn, for the great review, and thank you to Zoologist for the incredible giveaway. I am located in the USA.

I live in Indiana and would love to try all the zoologists. The review makes field mouse sound delightful.

  • johnmadison says:

Harvest Mouse sounds fantastic. I love a subtle fragrance for a morning at home, and the idea of wearing a yeasty, wheat woods scent that feels like a soft warm hug of a field mouse sounds delightful.

My favorite of the Zoologist line is Dragonfly with its beautiful opening of aquatic florals, a divine Summer fragrance that I love to wear on a humid Minnesota day.

This scent seems an amazing gourmand to wear around the office to provide a more subtle statement. US.

  • What an incredibly generous giveaway! I have not yet tried any Zoologist fragrances, but they have been on my to-try list for awhile. I loved this review! Lauryn is so thoughtful about the connections of the various notes to the theme of the fragrance. And what notes! Beer, hay, chamomile! It sounds lovely.
    Thank you!
    I’m in WV, USA

  • Such a complex sounding fragrance for a simple animal the Harvest Mouse. Hope the beer notes don’t make me drunk like a few down the hatch actually do.

  • I like the description of the hoppy beer notes but I’m not sure how this would smell on me. I’m very curious though. New Jersey, USA

  • Beer and bread, the staples of life of mice and men! What a fun concept for a scent. Thank you for the generous draw! I’m in the USA.

  • Victor has, indeed, worked with a wide range of perfumers and it is good thing if Harvest Mouse lacks the bigness of some other Zoologist perfumes because given Luca’s style, I don’t think it would have worked as well as it did with this composition. I enjoy L’atessa from Luca and think some of L’atessa’s vibe may be present in Harvest Mouse, too. I am in US.

  • cynthmarie says:

With the opening paragraph, I was interested: chypre, resins, broken in jeans, and cashmere. If it smells like that sounds, it would be a familiar, comforting and sunny wear. I’ve sampled Chipmunk but suspect I would really love Squid. It would be amazing to be able to try the whole line. In US.

  • Creamy, woodsy, hay-rose sounds divine! Plus the beer top note sounds rest cool. Would love the opportunity to try Harvest Mouse and all the other Zoologist perfumes I haven’t tried yet! So far Elephant is my favorite. I’m in MN, USA.

  • upandabout says:

This DOES feel like a hug! I tried it the other day for the first time and instantly fell in love. I was ready to get it on the spot, but it was out of stock at the store I was… I love that there’s a beer note in it, and am just like Lauryn a big fan of hay in perfumes. It works wonders in this one, and is so warming and comforting.

    I’m in New Jersey, US.

  • Trinity33 says:

I have a few of the Zoologist fragrances and I’m always amazed at how well they capture the spirit of the selected animal. When I saw this fragrance was inspired by the harvest mouse, I knew there had to be some hay and wildflower included. The beer note is genius and so appropriate for the harvest portion of the perfume. I’m most excited by the chypre structure umderscored with resins and woods. This seems like a definite autumn fragrance for me and I would love to try it. Favorite Zoologist at the moment is Dragonfly. MD, USA.

  • I’m gonna be honest, Lauryn had me at, “…here it is absolutely addictive; yeasty and malty, more fruity English country ale than sudsy Bud.” I absolutely love the smell of beer of all kinds. Something about that yeasty fermented smell that is also present when you are making bread makes me feel so cozy. I have not tried anything from zoologist, but I love to explore unconventional and funky smells. Lauryn also describes squid in this post and it sound like something I have to get my nose on. Other Zoologist fragrances that I really want to try are Camel, Macaque Yuzu Edition, Rhinoceros, and Seahorse.

    Cheers From Illinois, USA!

  • Half-Pint says:

Wow, this sounds so enticing. Like Lauryn, I am so happy they went with an unconventional approach to an autumnal scent – avoiding the pie spices and tobacco notes that are often ubiquitous in that style of fragrance. I love a good hay note and according to Lauryn, the one here is well-crafted and works wonders as a support in the heart of the fragrance. I’m intrigued by the beer accord as well and imagine its sweet and hoppy qualities will work well with the hay.

This is a unique brand and I have yet to try anything from them that I did not appreciate. Though some may be “challenging” to some, they are all exquisite works of storytelling through fragrance. My favorites are Moth and Squid, which are both incredibly complex and bold. However I also really like Chipmunk as well – a relatively soft yet bright autmnal offering that kisses you with flashes of spice while enrobing you in a light coat of hazelnut, soft woods, and resins. All are enchanting. There are so many that I have yet to try, though, and winning this set would be marvelous. I live in Virginia, USA.

  • What a beautiful actualization of a clever concept. Zoologist is a brand that I have admired from afar for entirely too long, and I’d love the opportunity to sample many of their fragrances and select my favorites from the line. While this may make the majority of your readership shudder, I was an avid pet caretaker as a child and I had numerous pet rats, among other species, in my time growing up on a corn field in rural Indiana. And my husband’s favorite thing to bake is beer bread. It seems that Harvest Mouse would be a perfect nostalgia fragrance to settle my senses and remind me of my roots.

  • minteacup says:

I’m an easy mark for Zoologist’s concept so Harvest Mouse charms me from the jump. Lauryn’s comparison to broken-in jeans charms me, I do love a perfume that plays it casual without losing the sophistication of quality materials and a smart composition. My favorite Zoologist perfume might be the holographic spring festival that is Hummingbird, but I sometimes dream about picking up a bottle of Civet. I’ve tired a couple of other others but it would be so fun to sample more of the collection. I’m in the US, thank you for the draw!

  • I’m really curious about an olfactory interpretation of a field mouse, with hay and beer notes. I’m very keen on trying out the Zoologist collection with the sample pack to explore this wonderful menagerie of animal-inspired scents. Live in Toronto.

  • ilikecolognes says:

ive heard alot about these zoologist fragrances but never got the chance to smell any of them. ive heard that some of them are very out there and id love to get my nose on them. id love to actually make a youtube video with my first reactions to all of these. thanks again for the giveaway.

    New Orleans, LA

  • I never smelt a harvest mouse, but I’m so curious now! Joke aside, Harvest Mouse reminded me how much I love Zoologist. I feel in it the same specific dense and creamy backbone, on which the entire aroma is built like a rib cage. For me, Harvest Mouse is a sweet and powdery scent, like a baby made by Bee and Nightingale. I will definitely get a full bottle of the Mouse. I live in CA, US

  • sillage4ever says:

I’m a huge fan of Sloth with its hay-like chamomile note, I can’t imagine I’m not going to adore the malty hay goodness that Harvest Mouse promises.

I’m in the USA, thanks for the drawing.

Harvest Mouse sound cozy and autumnal. Even though we’re in Spring, I’d still like to try it today.
    My favorite Zoologist is Camel.

  • What interest me about the harvest mouse is that it has a different notes like beer how does it combine with the other notes Favorite zoologist perfume is Squid. From USA California

  • This is so neat! I love the zoologist brand – Bee is one of my favorite scents.
From Lauryn’s review, I really liked the Harvest Mouse description with the imagery of the sun, harsh winter, and the gentle hug from a friend. It sounds cozy, subtle, and inviting. Would love to try out this and a few of the other Zoologist scents I have not tested yet. Thank you for the giveaway – From Canada!

  • Wonderful! Zoologist is the house that actually got me into fragrances, being Canadian as well I am very familiar with them! I enjoyed this review and what struck me was the constant revisiting of the beer note – it’s absolutely and addictive comforting fragrance! My favorite from Zoologist is Civet. I love ‘skanky’ florals, so it’s right up my alley.
    Thank you from Canada!

  • This sounds like such a cozy scent! I love the notes of the woody drydown. I’ve never tried any Zoologist fragrances so I would love to win this discovery set to finally test them all out!
    I live in Pennsylvania.

I loved the beautiful poem that introduced Lauryn’s review. I am so happy that Luca Maffei chose not to go for clichés when creating Harvest Mouse. I like the fall season, but not all the worn-out associations it brings. I love that Harvest Mouse contains a beer extract. That is genius! The hay and orange blossom notes also appeal to me. Harvest mice are really cute,,,,I hope they don’t eat up farmers’ harvests, but, hey, they gotta eat too. I haven’t tried anything from Zoologist.
    I live in the USA.

First time I’m hearing about this house but it got me very intrigued… mouse is a very different fragrance with the notes of hay and beer. I would love to try some of the fragrances from this house!!!! I’m from Massachusetts, US.

  • whimsical diva says:

Ooh love this description of Harvest Mouse. It sounds like a boozy, gourmand Chypre, which sounds totally novel and totally what I’d expect from the brand Zoologist. The only Zoologist I’ve tried is Nightingale, another lovely Chypre. I’d love to enter the draw for the entire sample set – I live in California

  • Harvest Mouse caught my attention as soon as it was announced since I absolutely love many fragrances that feature a prominent hay note. Hoppy, yeasty, malty beer is a more unusual and surprising inclusion; I worried it might read like sickly spilled lager, but Lauryn’s description makes it sound like a highlight of this composition. I also appreciate how balanced these cereal notes are with a bit of rose, oakmoss, amber, and woods. Harvest Mouse sounds extremely comforting.

I’m in the midwest, USA. My favorite Zoologist perfume is Squid, and I’d love to try the full line. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • vinchester says:

I adore Luca Maffei’s work! He has done some of my favorite scents so far, and I’m so happy he has come to join the Zoologist family. This one sounds lovely, based on what Lauryn writes. Who cares if it’s big and bombastic or small and quiet, I’m sure it’s going to be great either way. And the mouse illustration is so cute! I also love Squid and Macaque out of the ones I’ve tried. I’m in New Jersey. Thanks for this amazing draw!

  • You’ve really captured the brand with your descriptions, including the ones of TRex, Squid and Hummingbird. Victor’s perfumes always surprise, and I’ve long been a fan of the adorable drawings, but this little mouse has to be in my top 5! I hadn’t heard anyone mention the beer note before, but I am intrigued to experience this. Thanks for a very descriptive review!

  • What strikes me the most about this new Zoologist fragrance is that beer accord or note, how unusual and creative! I live in Chicago, US.
I do not own any Zoologist fragrances, but have tried a few samples over the years, and Sacred Scarab has been my favorite so far!

  • JulieeCee says:

Love boozy notes in fragrances and definitely intrigued by the hoppy beer note in Harvest Mouse.

  • Gnossiennes says:

Excited to see Luca Maffei, one of my favourite perfumers, cooperate with Zoologist! Lauryn’s review on its beer-hay accord makes me so curious about this creations. I wonder how its interpretation will differ from the others (such as Mathilde Laurent’s L’Envol.)
    Greetings from San Mateo, California.

  • I completely agree that a fragrance for a mouse deserves an experience more akin to hearing a child singing softly to themselves. I have a sample, and I love it’s coziness. Autumnal is right – I feel like I’ve just put on my favorite cotton sweater. I have only sampled a few Zoologist fragrances, and Snowy Owl is probably my favorite so far, but there are so many I still want to try. Kris from North Carolina, USA.

  • Regis Monkton says:

For a while now, I’ve been interested to try something from Zoologist, but I haven’t had a chance yet to do that. I would love to be able to try this discovery set. I found Lauryn’s review to be helpful to know how to think about this new release from Zoologist. It’s helpful to know that it’s somewhat similar to Chanel’s “Coromandel”. I think that it’s interesting that this fragrance is a different take on an autumnal fragrance. Its list of notes is appealing to me. Also, I’m interested to try it because I like soap scent profiles which include notes of chamomile or hay. I’d like to see what the rose and hay combination is like in this fragrance. I live in MD, U.S.A.

  • Such an interesting review ! Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Zoologist but always read with big interest about this brand’s perfumes. They are unique. This sound beautiful too- beer not with rose, cloves, bergamot and sandalwood !
    USA

  • Oh boy, I am a huge fan of Zoologist Perfumes, being Civet my favorite one yet.
I think that Lauryn did a fantastic job here. I am eager to try Harvest Mouse. I love that it has a beer note, I wonder how would that be. I also like that Zoologist did something different here and are continously exploring.
    USA here.

  • Okay, the beer note sounds both repelling and attractive. I will be sampling Mouse one day just to experience that. Overall, the scent sounds like a great invocation of harvest season, but I admit that the promise of a hay note gets my attention completely! I live in the USA

  • ChanteusedesIles says:

This sounds amazing! As a lover of Coromandel, hay & rose notes I’m now sold on trying this! Though I’m not usually enamoured of the smell of beer or hops, I’m curious to see how it’s used in Harvest Mouse! My fav Zoologist is Bee, which is just so perfectly evocative of a hazy summer day to me, I can hear the bee buzzing, and Chipmunk has also been growing on me, that oak note is just so satisfying and unusual! Looking forward to Tiger, finally a great cat in the line! (Panther anyone?) Would also love to see Wolf! From Toronto, Ontario

  • I’m just longing to smell this one! What I triture me know is the rose scent, and how it weaves in and out with the beer and hay as you said. I am wanting to feel the warmth and coziness of it! That late summer sun with just the beginning of a cool breeze peaking through.
Would eternally grateful to sample all of them! I do love my nightingale, cow, bee and civet!

  • Beautiful review by Lauryn. What I enjoyed about Harvest Mouse by Zoologist is its gourmand creamy, woodsy, hay-and-rose center, smelling like one of those crumbly baked confection at Bon Appetit spread of country picnics. It’s definitely fascinating. I yet to any frags from this house. Thanks for an amazing giveaway! Greetings from the USA.

  • What I love about this review is how it invokes the feeling of the fragrance as well as the details of the scent. It makes me really want to try the perfume, to experience the yummy, cozy, harvesttime deliciousness described. And who doesn’t need a hug from a kind-hearted cheeky friend now and then?

I have tried Zoologist a few times and find them very interesting. So far I like Seahorse, Chipmunk and Sacred Scarab. Seahorse is for when I want to feel like I’m on a beach vacation, Chipmunk is cozy and autumnal, and Sacred Scarab is opulent and glamorous.

I’m in Virginia in the USA.

Of the Zoologist fragances I have tried, my favorites are Seahorse, Chipmunk and Sacred Scarab. Seahorse is like a beach vacation, Chipmunk is cozy and autumnal, and Sacred Scarab feels opulent and glamorous. I can’t wait to try more!

  • I am super interested in seeing how a hay and beer note would come out in a fragrance. What’s more exciting is the mention of bakery notes that comes after, which makes me imagine sitting in a picnic table on a warm day in the fields.

  • As I read the description of the notes, I remembered my little rabbit, Patches, that I had years ago. He smelled like hay when I picked him up. His coat was a golden color with cream blotches. I imagine Harvest Mouse would smell like a childhood memory for me. I’ve never smelled a Zoologist perfume before. I would love to win the sample set. In the USA.

Lovely review Lauryn! What strikes me about Zoologist Harvest Mouse based on Lauryn’s review is learning that it strikes her as more elegant and refined than a Harvest Mouse might otherwise suggest, much of which is owed to Luca Maffei being such an elegant perfumer. I love her description of the perfume as having a graceful chypre structure rounded by rich resins and creamy woods, rather than clichéd “campfire, ” “pumpkin spice,” or other autumnal regulars. It sounds perfectly lovely and I can’t wait to try it!

I live in the US. My favorite Zoologist Perfume is Sacred Scarab.

    Thanks for the nice review.

I’m a fan of how the Zoologist brand keeps innovating on fragrance briefs and the interpretations of animals and their territory. I do see that Zoologist is taking a more mass appeal aspect to their interpretations and I do hope that we see one of their crazier scents soon.

That being said, I really love how this scent has taken a wheat harvest scene (in the form of bready beery notes) and superimposed it on a vibrant chypre structure with citruses, soft herbal notes, creamy woods and a lovely rose to top it off.

My favourite Zoologist has to be Hyrax and T Rex.

    Cheers from WI, USA
