Top 10 Perfumes of 2024

Top 10 Perfumes of 2024 Sandi and Hernando

As the year draws closer to ending, we often face the prospect of reflection. It allows us to pause and evaluate the past twelve months. It is a transitional phase where we can toast the past while looking to the future. The perfume world is expected to be more vibrant and diverse in the coming year. I have experienced an exquisite array of scents that reflect my style, mood, and individuality, from heady florals to bold and woody compositions and gourmands that offer warmth and depth. This year’s trends have been impressive, with Tea, Skin Scents, Cherry, Mood-Boosting, and Vanilla scents. I invite you to share my standout fragrances of the year that captured my heart and senses and held a special place in my fragrance journey, a journey I’m excited to share with you my top ten perfumes of 2024.-Sandi Lundberg, Contributor

What are the top ten best perfumes of 2024

 Sandi’s Top 10 Perfumes of 2024

Brownie Points Hez Parfums (Hez Binkowitz):This delectable fragrance doesn’t just charm your senses; it embarks you on a sensory journey, reliving memorable occasions. It holds you in a scented cloud long after the moment has passed. It offers a decadent array of aromas that will coax you to another time, sparking excitement and expectation of comforting familiarity. It’s a scent waiting to be shared.@hezparfums

Bukhara Ormonde Jayne (Linda Pilkington & Expressions Parfumees):From the La Route de la Soie collection, Bukhara is a captivating fragrance that elegantly balances fruity florals with a rich wood base. It is adventurous and sensual, leaving a memorable impression of lavishness and refinement wherever you travel. @ormondejayne

Candied Lychee 7 Virtues (Barb Stegemann & Julie Pluchet): It is a burst of deliciousness and freshness, a sweet and exotic delight, playful yet alluring. It is serene, smooth, sweet, and creamy, filled with a touch of fancy. It is an experience you may want to add while living your best life. It sprinkles magic around whoever may smell it. Which is why I added it to my top perfumes of 2024. @the7virtues

Comme Un Gant Voyages Imaginaires (Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal): A silky, soft, elegant skin scent that fits (like a glove) is like an old friend who showers you in comfort and friendliness and plays well with others. Comme Un Gant’s light, luxurious woods and smooth sweetness create an intimate scent that is a joy to surround yourself with, and anyone allowed close.@voyagesimaginairesparfums

Dreaming in Santal For the Scent of It (Michael Schrammel): As I think about the series Lucid Dreams, it is clear that anybody’s dreams may be realized with action. It reminds me all that our aspirations can indeed shape our reality. Dreaming in Santal is a unique and impressive take on a Santal perfume. The Iris note adds some different earthiness to the Sandalwood, creating a satiny, uplifting, exotic dream getaway no matter where your dreams may take you. For me, it took me through a sacred meditation retreat, to which I am sure to return. Awe, what dreams may come?@forthescentofit

Top 10 Fragrances of 2024

Dust and Clay  by Darren Alan Perfumes (Darren Alan): Darren Allen’s perfumes are nostalgic to me, not physically but more profoundly and mystically Dust and Clay is no exception, as it unveils its earthy, mystifying veil. Oris root adds even more of a grounding feel to the Mitti attar, while the violet adds a touch of lightness as the incense smoke settles on the wet, sunbaked earth attached to my soul. It’s a unique blend of earthy and muted notes that unfold slowly like the heart of a story, perfect for those who appreciate complex fragrances.@darrenalanperfumes

Macaron Bourbon Parfums De Nicolai (Patricia de Nicolai): I have another satisfying guilty gourmand pleasure to add to my top ten perfumes of 2024 picks, and yes, it is by a perfumer who has been on my list in the past. Seduction has never been so sweetly intoxicating. The opening is a caramel sweetness with bitter almond and rum, with a hint of tart brightness welcoming in the rose’s soft yet elegant touch. A silky smooth, rich, addictive base of patchouli, Tonka, and creamy vanilla follows it. Macaron Bourbon will surely be a regular in my perfume rotation for a long time.@nicolaiparfumeurcreateur

Neroli Botanica Essential Parfums (Anne Flipo): Neroli Botanica brought back pleasant childhood memories of drives down orange-grooved streets in a small southern California town just as the sun burns off the morning dew. It is vibrant and alive, with solar additions encouraging a playful yet calm environment. A base of layered tonal earthy notes enhances it, anchoring it in an airy floral richness that calls to me repeatedly.@essentialparfums

Scents of Man Sheean (Andrea Byrne): Sheean from Scents of Man (pronounced Shine; meaning in Manx Gaelic—to enchant or bewitch). This fruity gourmand could make someone want to take a bite out of your wrist. Sheean is a beautifully complex winter fragrance composed of many ingredients from the Isle of Man and is 90% natural. Raspberry, Mandarin, and a sweet Heliotrope wrapped in rose, jasmine, and vanilla seem to brighten up even a sky darkened by storm. The base adds a surprising sensual balance to this beguiling fragrance. @scentsofman

Venice Rococo ARQUISTE (Rodrigo Flores-Roux): From the very opening of Venice Rococo, the elegance of the style entices me with its alluring and lavish layers. I am mystified as I suddenly find myself privy to a secret rendezvous of like-minded people who value culture, art, style, and cherished private affairs. Refinement draped in a powdery mist with a sensual touch that says, “Don’t leave me; your pleasure is not yet complete.” I linger for hours, allowing Iris’s deep, powdery floral notes and restrained animalic amber to extinguish completely. The pleasure was not all mine! @arquiste

Top 10 Best Perfumes of 2024 Best Limited Edition

Gallivant Nida

Gallivant NIDA (Soizic Beaucourt): Nida, a  beautifully limited edition from Gallivant, is a treasure in my collection. It unfolds in a serene calm that resembles a barefoot walk on a private beach where the eye cannot distinguish between sky and sea. The air is alive with indistinguishable flora that caresses with tenderness and warmth. As the warm sand works between the toes, you sense an ethereal, unstained presence tenderly touching the soul, reassuring you that all is well. I blind bought this because a close friend urged me to. I am so glad I did. @gallivant.stories

Solstice Scents

Top 10 Best Perfumes of 2024 Artisan Excellence Award: Angela St. John of Solstice Scents

Angela is a woman after my own heart! Her work has evolved from bath and body products to perfumery, where her true and unique passion lies. Her perfumes allow you to journey to a specific destination or get lost in abstraction; however, they don’t leave you smelling identifiable or predictable. Angela is an imaginative and prolific indie perfumer whose work I have delved into very much as of late. Kudos, Angela, for finding and sharing your passionate work with us. @solsticescents

What are the best niche perfumes of 2024

 Hernando’s Top 10 Perfumes of 2024

Rosy and Earnest Vanilla Rum Royal (Nathalie Feisthauer): Vanilla is one of my favorite ingredients and takes me to a happy place. There are so many on the marketplace, Rosy & Earnest Vanilla Rum Royal smells unique. The bergamot here is engaging and elegant opening the door to the nuanced pink berries which add brightness. The white wine lees essence imparts a California chardonnay vibe with its vanilla tones and is deftly blended with what smells like top-shelf rum, slightly, but not overly sweet, and worthy of its own snifter.@nathalie.Feisthauer @rosyandearnest

Tilia Marc-Antoine Barrois (Quentin Bisch):The release of TILIA was judiciously timed with summer arriving in the Northern Hemisphere. This radiant, happy, and bright floral is a perfect summer scent. With TILIA Marc-Antoine and Quinten have dialed down the full-bodiedness of prior releases. We are in sunny mode here. TILIA celebrates simplicity, and optimism evoking eternal summers. Two notes near and dear to me are presented here, Orange Blossom and Vetiver. What it also has is a luxurious presence about it. It’s like being in the lap of luxury.  @marcantoinebarrois @quentinbischperfumer

Guerlain New L’Art & La Matière Néroli Plein Sud (Delphine Jelk): Guerlain released this gorgeous fragrance at the top of the year. The artwork on the box holds a historical touch which is courtesy of author and adventurer Antoine de Saint Exupery that portrays a journey through Morocco. A bright and uplifting opening leads to a Tunisian Orange Blossom to die for with an intensely spicy Neroli. The dry down with its vetiver and sandalwood is where the magic happens, rich and beautiful. The sillage is not to be believed. This one is on repeat. It’s unforgettable. @guerlain @delphinejelk

Acne Studios Frederic Malle perfume (Suzy Le Helley): Frederick Malle retired after the release which might account for it being overshadowed. This dazzling scent references laundry detergent. This has a few firsts for the house. The first collaboration with a brand. The first not to include the perfumer’s name on the bottle. The first to not use a perfumer with a recognizable name. And the second to not utilize his iconic black band around the bottle. The composition includes aldehydes, rose, a hint of orange blossom, accords of vanilla and peach with sandalwood, and a whisper of frankincense is not one of his serious fragrances. Name aside, the fragrance is underrated. Very un Malle.  @fredericmalle @suzy.lehelley

Parfums de Marly Palatine (Hamid Merati-Kashani and Julien Sprecher): Launched in the Fall, Palatine, the first “femme” fragrance from this house in a while, should have been released earlier in the year. This is a wonderful Spring take you into the Summer scent. On the nose, the initial impression differs from the dry down. The airy and light blend of mandarin, bergamot, and pear, evolves into violet petals and settles down on a luxurious foundation of musk and creamy sandalwood. Palatine has a classic and refined air about it. This might be a great layering scent. Your call. And the bottle is fab! @parfumsdemarly  @hamidmeratikashani

Patchouli Paris by Guerlain (Delphine Jelk): Arriving for the Fall and Darkness, Guerlain’s Patchouli Paris is right on the mark. There is a rich, inviting warmth that results in a sophisticated, and perfect fragrance for those who adore a scent that remains fairly linear. What you get upfront is what you get and the back. Between that, there is a damp greenness that lurks and a bit of third hand Parisian Street cigarette waft that pops up here and there. The vanilla may be tamed a bit more than I would have liked though. Not that sexy/ skanky sweet patchouli. This is big, bold, and hangs on forever! @guerlain @delphinejelk

Black Magenta by D.S. & Durga (David Moltz): D.S. & Durga Black Magenta is meant to capture the essence of New York City’s nightlife. The standout is the heart notes with a floral orris that brings on a powdery, and musky scent that is imperceptibly feminine with just a faint cosmetic-like whiff. The magenta dianthus throws off a delicious spicy scent, similar to clove. And the orange flower has a creaminess that imparts an orangesicle-ness to it. The base notes are where David Seth Moltz wants to take you. The darkness of the black amber gives out an animalistic sensuality which is counterbalanced by the Balkan tobacco with its dry hay/ cigarette-like essence. The sandalwood is where that earthy woodiness closes it all out in Goldilocks style. @dsanddurga

Bvlgari Le Gemme Sahare Eau de Parfum (Yann Vasnier):A very classy fragrance. A grand citrus opening lead into a sophisticated floral. I love me a Rose and the Taif Rose used here, a member of the Damask rose species, is named after its native region of Ta’If in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The scent is musky and sweet without being too overpowering and lasts all day without needing to be reused.  This is a luxurious winter scent. Wear it and you are sure to get compliments. Utterly divine. @bvlgari @yann_vasnier

Best Fragrances of 2024 award

Ambre Nuit Esprit De Parfum by Dior (Francis Kurkdjian): When Francis Kurkdjian was selecting which of the Collection Privée scents to tackle, he looked at both the house’s history and his own. “Ambre Nuit spoke to me personally,” he says. At first sniff, it too spoke to me. A total masterpiece. Ambre Nuit marks the collection’s progression into deeper, darker scents. This is strong and mysterious. This is powerful stuff. Just wow. The cinnamon, spices, and musk explode with an intoxication effect. I will not compare it to the original. It’s different and that is for another discussion. @dior @franciskurkdjian_official

Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible (Christina Christie): Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible is the second perfume in Les Potions D’Entéléchie Collection which takes its inspiration from Creative Director Joseph Quartana’s convalescence after a near-death experience left him hospital-bound in 2017. The scent explores the healing energies of Mother Nature through the healing practices of ancient civilizations from Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Inspired by the power of essential oil combinations historically used to “communicate with the gods” to spark inspiration and hope this scent contributes to the healing process Joseph Quartana is seeking to convey.@parfums_quartana @christinaperfume

  • Happy upcoming New Year!
This is such a fantastic lineup from both Sandi and Hernando! I love how their selections reflect such diverse fragrance styles and personal stories, because each one feels like a journey. From Sandi’s list, Comme Un Gant really caught my attention. The way she described it as a “silky, soft, elegant skin scent” makes me want to experience that intimate comfort myself. Plus, who wouldn’t want a scent that feels like an old friend?

On Hernando’s side, Ambre Nuit Esprit De Parfum sounds absolutely stunning. Anything by Francis Kurkdjian is bound to be a masterpiece, and the idea of this darker, more intense version of Ambre Nuit has me intrigued.

That said, Comme Un Gant is the one I’d love to win, skin scents with a light, woody sweetness are totally my vibe, and this one sounds like it would be perfect for everyday wear.

    I am from the EU

  • Thanks for another great review, Dreaming in santal spiked my interest, the dreamy sandalwood sounds interesting, but Comme un Gant sounds interesting, i would love to smell it
    I am from Serbia EU

  • 2 fragrances have caughy my attention Sheean and Macaron Bourbon. Sheean caught my attention because it is 90% natural. For the most part, fragrances use a mix of synthetic and naturals, but Sheean being 90% natural and being a gourmand fragrance really suprised me. Macaron Burbon really entices me with the caramel sweetness, boozy rum and bitter almond. Sounds delectable. Good lists guys. If I were to win the giveaway, I would want For The Scent Of It Lucid Dreams Dreaming in Santal. The iris looks really desirable in this fragrance. It also seems quite dressed up.

  • vanille’s been very present in loads of perfume especially this year, with the advent of gourmands. I personally don’t like it when “vanilla” is only vanillin, too sweet and not so realistic, nothing compared to open a vanilla pod.
One of the fragrances that caught my attention this year is patchouli Paris from guerlain. Very rich, hefty, makes me think of a 60s bar with dark wood paneling, the smell of cigarettes and well-dressed gentlemen.
I’m very curious to smell comme un gant from voyages imaginaires.
    I’m from Italy.

  • Ambre Nuit Esprit De Parfum is something I’d like to smell. I enjoy the original, so I’m curious how the new version has been edited and tweaked.

I live in the U.S. and would like to win Comme un Gant. Thank you.

  • What great lists. Of the ones I have smelled I would agree they are some of the years best and this review has but many more on my to try list so thank you for sharing such great content that continues to expose me to great scents. Comme un Gant is one I would love to win as skins scents are some of my favorites.

  • Ramses Perez says:

Yet another impressive list of picks. This time I am noticing more of the “big houses” make appearances such as Guerlain and Dior. Where credit is due, it shall be given and based on the review those 2 specifically stood out. I’m still impressed that the house of Rosy & Earnest uses 100% natural materials and that alone should be commanded. I do agree with the sentiment of previous lists, there’s more and more fragrances that launch each year, less is more and when you release a quality scent, you can wait and but and let it bask in its glory. I have tried Acne Studios myself and that’s a fragrance that will certainly be in my collection in months to come, one of the cleanest scents I’ve ever put my nose in. You can also tell someone’s personality based on their picks although the variety really showcases these are connoisseurs of fragrances and want a bit of everything. I’m going for Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible if I am so lucky to win. I’m located in the USA.

  • Comme in gant, Tillia and Quartana my favorite .
I live in Italy and I would like to smell all 🙂

  • I thought that these were very in depth reviews that helped to explain the best choice for our preferences in fragrance. It was a great guide into some beautiful compositions. I would love to try and win Comme Un Gant. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • Thanks to Sandy and Hernando for their best-of lists! It’s like fireworks around here, with each list bursting onto the scene with memories, light, and excitement!

Sandy has reminded me that I must seek out Dust and Clay. I’m drawn to its composition, even though its origin story is quite fanciful.

Hernando made such interesting choices this year. I did not expect to see Dior’s Ambre Nuit Esprit De Parfum, for instance! I did get to sample it this year, but it was too overwhelming for me — and that’s an unusual thing!

In the end, it’s Michael Schrammel’s Dreaming in Santal that I’d love to add to my collection. I’ve been all over iris notes this year, and a sandalwood-iris fragrance sounds both soothing and refreshing. Please enter me for the draw for Dreaming in Santal.

I remain in the midwestern Mecca of Chicago, USA.

  • Comme Un Gant seems really nice and has a few notes I love like vanilla, coconut and sandalwood. Also, never tested anything from Voyages Imaginaires, so that would make my journey of discovery even more beautiful. Thanks. Europe

  • Great article and I enjoyed it and would love to try the new offerings from Guerlain and Dior. The only one listed that I’ve tried is Bvlgari Sahare which I thought was a nice rose. I am in Ohio USA and I would be happy to win For The Scent Of It Lucid Dreams Dreaming in Santal.

  • I liked the description of Néroli Plein Sud. The orange blossom note paired with neroli sounds perfect for warmer weather. I also enjoyed reading about Sahare from Bvgari. A musky rose to spritz in winter is right up my alley. If lucky, I’d choose Comme Un Gant. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. MI USA

  • Hello! I loved Epona this year. I live in Arizona, and I’d love to win a bottle of Soleil Invisible by Parfums Quartana.

  • Bvlgari Le Gemme Is a fantastic fragrance big fan of the whole Le Gemme line!
And for the giveaway Voyages Imaginaires sounds the best and fantastic presentation

  • goknitintheocean says:

Hi there, more wonderful Top 10 picks, and I enjoyed these descriptions immensely. Candied Lychee sounds like it leans in the direction of my choice of cocktail these days; Acne Studios FM intrigues because I am a fan of Acne Studios and everything Swedish that comes my way. So good for them for leaning into new fragrance directions! And Nida’s “walk on a private beach” sounds so soothing, crisp, and warm right now. I also look forward to investigating Black Magenta, as well as Capsule Parfumerie(I’m a big fan of Fiele). Thank you so much for this giveaway; I’d have to pick Soleil Invisible as my prize, though it is tough to choose. I am in NYC/USA.

    Happy New Year!

    Deborah

  • So thrilled to see Michael (For The Scent of It) and Darren’s works in someone’s best-of list. Both of these gentlemen have put out some absolutely stunning releases and it just makes me so happy to see their work recognized. It was also cool to yet again discover another scent that I missed throughout the year (Acne Studios x Frederic Malle, I’m looking at you). If I were to be chosen, I would go with Dreaming in Santal from For the Scent of It. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • Dust and Clay sounds amazing, and I love to see Nida again as that one is already on my Want to Try list. SO HAPPY to see Solstice Scents recognized too: I’ve been a fan for years! I just tried Tilia last night and loved the honeyed’ Linden blossom of it, though it’s odd to wear that in December instead of summer. Adding Guerlain Patchouli Paris to the want to try list too, and I generally can’t stand patchouli, but the review makes it sound like something I would love. I live in the US and if chosen, I would pick Dreaming in Santal. Sounds amazing!

  • Great work by Sandi and Hernando. I’d like to try some from the mainstream houses; I’m glad they made the list! In all the chaos of the holidays, real and imagined, Comme Un Gant resonates the most for me and I’d love to try it. Not that I’m a loud mouth, but a softly spoken word and a skin scent sound like New Year’s resolutions. Note: I’m also quitting Dateline, 20/20 and all crime procedural shows. I live in NY.

  • Some great fragrances and houses mentioned here. I would pick Dreaming in Santal. I purchased Dreaming in Oud earlier this year so I know the quality of his fragrances are top notch.

I’ve also had the privilege to meet Mike and Linda at their boutique store in LA Capsule Parfumerie. I purchased a few samples and look forward to testing them out in 2025.

  • Again so many perfumes, so many great reviews.

I’m familiar with and adore Neroli Botanica Essential Parfums & Macaron Bourbon Parfums De Nicolai which is absolutely amazing.

I’d love to try Guerlain New L’Art & La Matière Néroli Plein Sud because of the Tunisian Orange Blossom to die for with an intensely spicy Neroli and also Tilia Marc-Antoine Barrois – again for the Orange Blossom.

Brands I’m dying to try are Hez Parfums, Rosy and Earnest & Capsule Parfumerie.

I’d loooove to win Comme Un Gant.

    I’m from Croatia, EU.

  • Happy new years to everyone and again an interesting list to read through. I gald to see that Darren Alan is again listed. I have been testing both Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible and Forest of the Golden Dream and so winning one of them would make my decision that much easier.

  • Thanks to Sandy and Hernando great list. I would love to try the new fragrances from Guerlain and Dior. Voyages Imaginaires has my interest. Thank you for this chance USA

  • Interesting choices! I have tried Quartana Soleil Invisible and it is very unique. I:m very interested in sampling the new Galivant Mozda and DS & Durga Black Magenta. I love both of these brands and these so sound really good. I’d love to win Imaginaires Comme Un Gant. I love the sound of it – woody, cozy and comforting. I’m from Illinois US.

  • So many awesome fragrances. I am curious about that Patchouli Paris, I hear people who aren’t fond of that note love it. Happy to know Joseph Quartana is okay. Nida makes me want to go to the beach now!! I’d love to win Comme Un Gant. Sounds fabulous. USA. Happy and fragrant New Year to all!!

  • Eris.can.swatch.kaos says:

In these lists, I’m very interested in Dust & Clay. This earthy and grounding fragrance is something I must try soon. Macaron Bourbon could also steal my heart, I’m adding it to the must-try list now. As for the draw, I am choosing an amazing house, Parfums Quartana, and Soleil Invisible is one I’ve been wanting to try for some time. I’m new to discovering this house, and they have several offerings I’m interested in. Thank you for the generosity and I’ll keep my fingers crossed. I live in Oregon.

  • Happy New Year! Quartana Soleil invisible is right up my Alley but made much more interesting. I would love the chance to win a bottle!

    Boston, USA / Ottawa, ON

  • wonderscent.mari says:

I love these lists as they always highlight how tastes vary from person to person and also I find these reviews are excellent so I know where to start when sampling samples. I want to start sampling Dreaming in Santal which sounds to me a quite interesting sandalwood scent, with a blend of whiskey and iris note, which adding this earthiness.
Another one of Sandi’s top 10 will be for sure Bukhara Ormonde Jayne, a beautiful bright floral with a sensual woody base. From Hernando’s list I kept in mind to test D.S. & Durga Black Magenta, which Sound to me that the pink pineapple adding an exotic sweet touch to this creation while floral orris which brings on a powdery, and musky scent a femininity. The base of black amber, hay, and tobacco sounds lovely, Overall a bold and unexpected scent that I would love to dive into it. If I were to win the giveaway, I would want Comme Un Gant Voyages Imaginaires, a really delicate, warm perfume with a elegance on it. Sound really beautiful one!
Best wishes and a happy upcoming New Year to all of you!

  • Thank you, ÇaFleureBon, for sharing your top 10 perfumes of 2024! Your curated selections are always a highlight, introducing us to exceptional fragrances. I am particularly captivated by “Comme Un Gant” from Voyages Imaginaires; its description of a silky, soft, and elegant skin scent that fits like a glove resonates deeply with my appreciation for intimate and comforting fragrances. I appreciate this generous giveaway opportunity and wish all participants the best of luck. Thank you for continuing to inspire and delight the fragrance community!

  • I want to believe like Sandi that 2025 in the world of perfume will be more vibrant and diverse in the coming year. Gourmand has been this year and Sandi highlights two perfumes: a guilty pleasure like Macaron Bourbon by the master Patricia De Nicolai is sweetly seductive and a fruity gourmand like Scents of Scents of Man Sheean a complex almost natural composition with many local ingredients (Isle of Man). As a sandalwood lover, Sandi discovers Dreaming in Santal by For the Scent of It where iris is combined with sandalwood. Hernando discovers a vanilla for me, one of my favorite notes in a brand I didn’t know Rosy and Earnest in Vanilla Rum Royal coming from the genius of Nathalie Feisthauer. She uses white wine lees as an ingredient and reminds me of an ice cream maker in Spain who does magic with that ingredient. Another favorite ingredient of mine is orange blossom that in the hands of the very hard-working Delphine Jel in Guerlain is transformed into Néroli Plein Sud. Mme Jerk also has another creation of hers on Hernando’s list: Patchouli Paris. Kudos to her! If I were lucky, I would like to win Comme Un Gant by Voyages Imaginaires from the expert hands of Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal, a perfume that resonates like a second skin with the delicious notes of Cardamom, Sandalwood, Coconut, Vanilla and Vetiver. Amazing! I live in Spain, EU.

  • I’ve expressed my gratitude many times for your contribution to the world of fragrances. It’s truly unique to be able to “experience” a scent even before actually smelling it. Having this kind of information beforehand is equally important because it helps you understand not only the notes but also the overall feeling that suits you.

In this fifth review, I want to highlight Ambre Nuit Esprit De Parfum by Dior, as Francis Kurkdjian’s creations have enchanted me over the years.

I would love to win Comme Un Gant.

    Thank you! From the EU.

  • My interest was sparked reading of Black Magenta. I’m sure to seek out some to try. Vanilla Rum Royale is my choice for the draw. US

  • WeAreScentient says:

    Some beautiful picks here!
I agree the Acne release is very un Malle, but it kind of like the Gen Z chanel no.5 for the clean girl aesthetic. Parfums Quartana & Arquiste are on my houses to discover list & also finding a way to get Darren Allen’s perfumes in the EU!

  • Wow there are quite a lot in these lists that I have not tried. I admit I’m slow to appreciating gourmands. But I do love an Iris, santal and musk/skin scent and a neroli! So many on here to research and sample! Thank you for a great working list. I am already a huge fan of For The Scent of it!
If I am so lucky as to win I would love Voyages Imaginaires Comme Un Gant. I am in USA.

  • I’d like to enter for Dreaming in Santal, please. I’m in the US. The ingredients sound so interesting (sandalwood is one of my favorite notes and I’m curious to see what it smells like with hints of smoke and bourbon and roasted bran!)

It was interesting reading about how the perfumer was inspired by a magical dream of a perfume master passing on the sacred knowledge of perfumery.

  • Thanks for the great reviews.

I’m familiar with Neroli Botanica which has an outstanding “classical” scent profile.

I’d love to try so many of the mentioned perfumes, but mostly Comme un Gant, Dust and Clay, Vanilla Rum Royal, La Matiere Neroli Plein Sud, and of course Ambre Nuit Esprit de Parfum (so that I can see whether Mr. Kurkdjian has upgraded or downgraded the original version).

Brands I want to try are Quartana, Rosy and Earnest, Solstice Scents, Gallivant, Darren Allan.

I’d love to win Comme Un Gant.

    I’m from EU.

  • I enjoyed Sandi and Hernando’s rundown of top perfumes. I didn’t try any of the top picks (wow, I need to fix that, haha) but it felt nostalgic to me to see Solstice Scents recognized for artisan excellence, I first dabbled in their scents almost a decade ago when they were relatively new to the scene. If you’re a commenter reading today, head on over to the Solstice website because there’s a bit left in stock at their year-end sale, Angela only runs a discount once a year. Regarding the giveaway… I’d be thrilled to win Dreaming in Santal for the Scent of It, Comme Un Gant Voyages, OR Rosy and Earnest Vanilla Rum Royal! I can’t choose between the three because all of them sound comforting and easy to love. I’m in the USA, thank you for the draw.

  • Thank you for the great review Sandi and Hernando, Galivant nida sounds interesting, the airy and sea notes feel extremely striking, but Comme un Gant voyages imaginaries sounds the most captivating to me, i’d love to try it
    I’m from EU

  • Never tried anything from Voyages Imaginaires, but I do know some of Isabelle Doyen’s creations for other houses and I am sure you cannot go wrong with Comme Un Gant.
    Thank you very much! Europe

  • I always enjoy these lists as they showcase how personal fragrance preferences can be, and the reviews are incredibly helpful for narrowing down what to sample next. I’m particularly intrigued by Dreaming in Santal, which seems like a fascinating sandalwood scent enriched with whiskey and iris notes, adding an earthy dimension. Another standout from Sandi’s top 10 is Bukhara by Ormonde Jayne—a luminous floral with a sensual woody base that sounds captivating. From Hernando’s list, I’m eager to try Black Magenta by D.S. & Durga. The pink pineapple note promises a unique, exotic sweetness, complemented by floral orris for powdery, musky femininity. The base of black amber, hay, and tobacco is equally enticing, making this a bold and unexpected fragrance I’d love to explore. If I were fortunate enough to win the giveaway, my choice would be Comme Un Gant by Voyages Imaginaires—a delicate and warm perfume exuding elegance. It sounds truly exquisite! Wishing everyone the best and a wonderful start to the New Year! Greetings from NY 😉

  • Lots of delicate, skin scents in 2024 along with a fair share of gourmands. I’m drawn towards Joseph Quartana’s healing journey during his convalescence and the use of scent to help guide the process. I would love to win Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible. MD, USA.

  • Lovely list of perfumes. Some were on my radar already and others are now on it! I’ve tried a lot of the D.S. Durga offerings but not Black Magenta. I am in Honolulu, HI and I would love to win Voyages Imaginaires Comme Un Gant. I have enjoyed a couple other scents by them so chances are I will love this one too!

  • In Part 5 Sandi Lundberg discovered array of that reflect her style and mood, from heady florals, to woody compositions and gourmands. Tea , cherry, vanilla mood boosting fragrance is mostly what she focuses on. Hernando Courtright on the other hand crowned by Michelyn Camen as the Hardest Working Person in Perfume focused on traveling, attended multiple fragrance venues, from small to large boutiques and discovered many new beautiful releases 10 of which he shared with us Cafleurebon readers.
Interestingly enough I own 3 of Hernando and Sandi choices, Ormonde Jayne Bukhara, Ambre Nuit Esprit and Guerlain Patchouli Paris. Out of other choices I’m curious about on Sandi Lundberg side Nicolaï Parfumeur-Créateur Macaron, Voyages Imaginaires Comme Un Gant,
Scents of Man Sheean, and on Hernando Courtright side Rosy & Earnest Vanilla Rhum Royale
Comme Un Gant I’d enjoy the most
    Much obliged

I loved seeing Angela St. John of Solstice Scents receive recognition from Sandi. I have loved every fragrance I have tried from this house, especially High Desert and Wilcox’s. I really want to try Venice Rococo by Arquiste from Sandi’s list.
From Hernando’s list, I am intrigued by Black Magenta. I used to go out dancing in NYC many years ago. I’d like a fragrance to remind me of those wild times.
If I were the winner of the draw, I would choose For the Scent of It Lucid Dreams Dreaming in Santal.
    I live in the USA.

  • Oh, Comme un gants seems lovely. Beautiful name and concept, I actually wish there will be more perfumes like this one in 2025! More skin scents, stop making chaos and be rude with strong perfumes, please! I hope to try that one. I am from Eu.

  • What a lovely wrap up, and so many beautiful reviews with excellent imagery. It was a pleasure to read.

I’ve not tried many on this list, so I really appreciated reading about them. Néroli Plein Sud was lovely, but I found that I preferred Donna Karan’s newer Cashmere and Tunisian Neroli. The Neroli plays on my skin better, and brighter, and never went bitter.

Dreaming in Santal sounds…dreamy. For the Scent of It always presents interesting and unique perfumes.

Oh my goodness, thanks to the click-thru link, I see that Comme Un Gant reflects Claudine Drai’s work, which I adore. I would aaaaabsolutely loooove to win this perfume in particular.

I live in the USA. Thank you again for these reviews and for holding this drawing!

  • Sandi listed 7 Virtues Candied Lychee and I will definitely be searching out this one to try in the new year. Having lived in Asia so many years, lychee is a note I became attracted to there, and smelling it immediately takes me back to that fun time in my life. Plus they are an affordable line who do some good. And I need to try Bokhara by Ormande Jayne, just because all her scents smell of quality to me. As for the draw, I would love to win Comme Un Gant by VOYAGES IMAGINAIRES. I have been drawn to skin scents lately that “fit like a glove”. The Rosy and Ernest scent also sounds good with notes of chardonney! Happy New Years and thank you to the Cafleurebon staff and the perfumed sponsors of this draw!

  • I am in the US and interested in Comme Un Gant. I am a big fan of Voyages Imaginaries and any new release will get my heart racing!!

  • What a great list! I’m still hooked on these niche fragrances. What really sparked my interest was the neroli botanica. It probably wouldn’t suit me but it must smell lovely on people who prefer feminine scents. As for the giveaway, I would love to add a bottle of Comme un Gant to my collection. That would definitely suit me. Greece, EU.

  • Sandi’s list is full of fruit and florals and includes many fragrances that weren’t noted by other ÇaFleureBon staff, while highlighting some small American perfumers. Comme Un Gant Voyages Imaginaires sounds extraordinarily easy to wear (and is ready for polite company), I want to smell how Dreaming in Santal uses the beautiful combination of sandalwood and iris, and Dust and Clay is a surprising take on Mitti attar. Hernando’s list is totally different. I recall reading about TILIA here earlier this year, Ambre Nuit sounds like a best in class amber and I’m intrigued by the concept of Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible.

I’m in the USA. If I were to win, I’d choose Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible. Happy new year!

  • I’ve tried the Lucid Dreaming in Santal by For the Scent of It and it is hands down one of the best perfumes i have ever smelled. It’s an instant love, so satiny and good I had to snag a travel size right away.
I am very intrigued by the Dust and Clay perfume by Darren Alan’s perfumes. I heard mixed reviews about it but the earthen and dry nature of it sound like something I would really love. I am also intrigued by Brownie Points by Hez Parfums as I have a deep love for photo realism in gourmands and am curious if it captures the baking vibe well.
I am entering the draw to win a bottle of Vanilla Rum Royal by Rosy & Earnest! I only had a little sample once but it is one of the coziest fragrances I’ve had the pleasure of smelling! So clean, warm, with a little citrus and just utter coziness! So gorgeous! From Portland, USA.

Bookmarking this list! Macaron Bourbon sounds amazing! I live in MA and would be thrilled to win any of these but especially Comme Un Gant

Thank you for the wonderful 2024 curations.

I’ve smelt a fair bit of Michael Schrammel’s work, since he is fairly local and love his writeups on the page. I would love to try his Dreaming in Santal, to see what lucid dream he has whipped up into a bottle.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • For the Best of 2024 Sandi Lundberg and Hernando Courtright observations are based on vibrant and diverse expectations, exquisite array of scents from heady florals to woody compositions and gourmands. According to Michelyn Camen Hernando Courtright was the perfume workaholic of the year and from all Cafleurebon readers I’d like to thank him for that.
Out of all the picks I’m interested in Bukhara Ormonde Jayne, Comme Un Gant Voyage Imaginaires, Macaron Bourbon Nicolaï Parfumeur-Créateur, Scents of Man Sheean, Patchouli Paris Guerlain, Abre Nuit Esprit De Dior
My preference would be Comme Un Gant Voyages Imaginaires
Thank you Sandi Lundberg, Hernando Courtright for your 2024 observations, and for the generosity

  • Dreaming in Santal, Comme un Gant, Neroli Botanica, Nida for warn beach visits during the rainy winter, Neroli Plein Sud (can one have too many neroli or OB scents? I think not….), Ambre Nuit (spicy scents? Yes, please). I would love to try Comme un Gant, as I did not win in the previous give away for it. I’m in the US.

  • Happy New Year Cafleurebon 🙂
2024 has ended , I enjoyed learning about Sandi Lundberg and Hernando Courtright 24′ best and I’ll try to express my opinion on the topic. It was impressive year for me too , I had experienced a lot of bold and woody , tea , cherry and vanilla scents too.
    ■ Bukhara Ormonde Jayne fruity-floral with rich woody base
    ■ Comme Un Gant Voyage Imaginaires comfortable and luxurious blend of woods and smooth sweetness
    ■ Macaron Bourbon Parfums de Nikolai guilty pleasures gourmand with caramel, bitter almonds and rum
    ■ Scents of Man Sheean complex gourmand with sweet heliotrope, rose ,jasmine and vanilla
    ■ Patchouli Paris Guerlain rich , warm and inviting patchouli
    ■ Ambre Nuit Esprit De by Dior intoxicating darker fragrance. I own and love the original Ambre Nuit and I was hoping for a short comparison , but Sandi said it a topic for another discussion. Different but ..how exactly? I’m so curious now ….
Comme Un Gant Voyage Imaginaires is my choice
    Thanks to all involved

  • I loved Sandi’s top ten list! I haven’t tried Brownie Points, but it sounds delicious. I love iris, so Dreaming in Santal sounds like a must-try for me. It sounds like the perfect creamy sandalwood fragrance. I love atmospheric fragrances, so Dust and Clay sounds right up my alley. I’ve tried many fragrances from Scents of Man, but I have not tried Sheean. I love rose, heliotrope, and jasmine, so I am sure it’s beautiful. I also really enjoyed Venice Rococo; it’s such an elegant, powdery, and feminine scent. As a longtime fan of Solstice Scents, I was not surprised to see Angela listed as Sandi’s artisan excellence award.

I really enjoyed reading through Hernando’s top ten. I still haven’t tried any fragrances from Rosy and Earnest, but Vanilla Rum Royal sounds great. The white wine lees note is really intriguing. As a lover of linden blossom, I have wanted to try Tilia since its release. Hernando’s description of Black Magenta really makes me want to try it. I love powdery and cosmetic scents. I was excited to read Hernando’s pick for the best independent house. I tried quite a few fragrances from Capsule this year and Nimbis was among them!

I would love to win either For The Scent of It Dreaming in Santal or Rosy and Earnest Vanilla Rum Royal; however, I would be happy to win any of the four fragrances up for the draw!

Thank you, Sandi and Hernando, for sharing! Thank you to the perfumers/houses for their generous giveaways. I am located in the USA.

  • Your article on the top fragrances of 2024 was delightful and inspired me to explore many of these masterpieces. ‘Voyages Imaginaires Comme Un Gant’ particularly captivated me, as the idea of a scent that embraces like a silky glove, exuding comfort and luxury, is truly fascinating. I’m drawn to woody and leather tones that create an intimate and warm feeling. I hope to have the chance to experience this unique creation. I’m based in the EU and would love to enter the draw for ‘Voyages Imaginaires Comme Un Gant.’ Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!

  • I very much like the sound of Comme Un Gant, and it’s appeared on many of these lists which makes me even more interested! Venice Rococo sounds interesting and seductive or sensual. I would also very much like to try Guerlain Patchouli Paris, I’m a fan of a number from the collection and this sounds nice. The Espirit de Parfum Ambre Nuit is another I’d love to try but definitely couldn’t buy due to the price. I would love to win Comme Un Gant. From the U.S. Thanks for the generous draw!
