With the still moonlight, sad and beautiful,

That sets the birds dreaming in the trees

And the fountains sobbing in ecstasy,

The tall slender fountains among marble statues.”

An excerpt from the poem  ‘Clair de Lune’ from Fêtes Galantes by Paul Verlaine (1869).

There are countless songs, painting and odes to the moon, and for good reason! The moon turns the tides, inspires our art and measures our lives in ways we are only beginning to understand.  In many cultures the moon is projected as the feminine principle, the receptive or yin energy that nourishes and gestates, patiently weaving the soul’s cloak of mortality in the darkness of the womb, marking time until new life is ready to be born into the full radiance of the sun.

With images of the recent Pink Super Moon still fresh in my mind, I take pleasure reveling and relaxing in The Harmonist Moon Glory.

The Harmonist, launched in 2016 by owner and creative director Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, offers fragrant collections that bring serenity to both body and mind. Inspired by the five elements of ancient Chinese Feng Shui and the Taoist principles of yin and yang, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, philanthropist, diplomat and former Uzbekistan ambassador to UNESCO, instills her perfumes with the romance of the Great Silk Road –“…the rarest and most precious natural ingredients from all over the world… harnessing the purest energy levels to create true signature scents.”

The first of the two fragrances in the new Prequel Collection, Harmonist Moon Glory is paired with its celestial opposite, Solar Force (coming fall 2020). Both perfumes were created by world-renowned French perfumer Guillaume Flavigny of Givaudan. The meticulous, clean and precise art used for the bottles and the presentation of Prequel is the work of celebrated Los Angeles tattoo artist Doctor Woo. This thoughtful collaboration between designer, perfumer and visual artist has resulted in the perfect tableau, an interdisciplinary experience capturing the moon in all her mysterious glory.

The Harmonist Moon Glory is exactly the calming, centering perfume I have been looking for. The immediate effect of the unique combination of pikake, night blooming cactus flower and ylang-ylang is so soothing as to be almost narcotic. Within moments I find myself spirited away through a dusky twilight to a silent realm of flowers, an olfactory dreamland where all my worries, stories and obsessions fade into a fragrance that glows like the moon itself. Sighs of passionflower and lychee float through the ethereal floral mist, the ripening fruit smoothed with notes of honey and balsam. The Harmonist Moon Glory is quite long lived.  Alter eight hours and more I still detect the jasmine and passionflower close to my skin and, days later, a passing breeze ruffles the sleeve of my coat, stirring traces of metallic, sweet Australian sandalwood and recalling the cool hazy gleam of the spring moon.

Notes: Hawaiian Jasmine (pikake), Ylang-Ylang from Comoros, Chinese Lychee, Queen of the Night blossoms from Mexico, Passion Flower from French Guyana, Laotian Organic Honey, Japanese Hinoki Wood, Peru Balsam and Australian Sandalwood

Disclaimer:  I would like to thank The Harmonist for my cherished bottle of Moon Glory.  My opinions are my own.

  • Description of this is so enticing containing many if my favourite notes. As a musician, have also performed many settings of the Verlaine poem that inspired the fragrance in song settings by Debussy, Fauré and Reynaldo Hahn. Would love to try this!

  • As a person who’s fascinated by the all things celestial (specially the moon) am intrigued in they interpreted into a scent. As mentioned in the review, it has a calming effect, which I totally get from ylang-ylang fragrances, but I’m curious how this usually warm note works with what I usually picture as a cold night since it’s referencing the moon. Really hoping I’m able to experience the narcotic long lasting effect Gail mentions 🙂

  • Gail’s review was very informative and interesting. When she mentioned the delicious notes culminating into an olfactory dreamland that really piqued my interest. I’ve never tried anything from this house before but I’d love to. Thanks for the great review and the great giveaway. Commenting from Kentucky USA.

  • Wow! Everything about this sounds absolutely amazing! I loved the excerpt from the poem in the beginning of the review, simply lovely! I also love the bottle!!! I’m in florida USA thanks for the opportunity!!!

  • Camille Sheil says:

By the description, this certainly does seems to capture a coolness of some kind. Lychee is one of my favorite notes still! The opening to this fragrance sounds amazing. I have never smelled Passion fruit, to my knowledge, but pairing that with Jasmine, yet acheiving a quieter presentation is a feat indeed…if I’m correct! Very intrigued, as usual! Thank you for this lovely opportunity! Amazing! I live in New Hampshire!

  • A perfume created with the moon, the divine feminine, in mind and made from some of my favorite flowers, should be wonderful. Gail’s mentioning the *dreamland* and the *ethereal* aspects of Moon Glory raise my interest in this perfume even more. Live in the USA.

  • The collaboration to create a complete presentation is interesting. The scent as described seems like a perfect boudoir fragrance. Gorgeous.

  • Moon Glory sounds absolutely ethereal. I like the artwork on the bottle by Dr Woo. Thanks for the beautiful pictures Ms Gail. I’ve always been a night child, so thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

    Hi Gail,

Gorgeous review and visuals, as usual (one day I may hunt you down and have you teach me how you accomplish your digital sorcery).

I remember sampling the line At Barney’s when I was in NY last summer. I particularly liked Metallic Flower, but alas I was there for Lutens and Malle.

This one sounds heavenly. Passion Flower and Honey. I’m all up in that!

    Sending hugs,

    Rich Potter

  • Thank you Gail for a lovely review. With notes of Hawaiian Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Australian Sandalwood, this seems to be a lovely perfume. I liked the way moon’s yin nature is described along with the qualities of Harmonist Moon Glory fragrance. After a long time of yang-energy dominance – hyperactivity in stocks, traffic, construction, work, work, work, nature has finally forced us to recognize the balancing, equal nature of yin-energy, and many people are grateful for that, despite the fear and tragic consequences of Covid-19 disease. Skies are clearer, traffic is much lighter, people are walking outside rather than running on treadmills, and on and on. Stay safe everyone. Thanks for the draw – writing from USA.

  • This fragrance seems to have very interesting notes but also inspired by Chinese feng shui and celestial bodies is one that intrigues me. I also like the idea of a soothing fragrance. I’m looking for the perfect sleeping fragrance, and by Gail’s description this might be it! USA

  • Hashim Madani says:

The floral mist, lychee, and overall soothing effect Gail describes sound wonderful. VA, USA.

  • Natalia306 says:

“Moon Glory” by Harmonist absolutely gorgeous perfum. I love everything about it: silver bottle, amazing ingredients, notes, how this perfum was created. Gail did wonderful job describing this fragragrance:”The Harmonist Moon Glory is exactly the calming, centering perfume I have been looking for. Thank you Gail Gross and Harmonist for this review and generosity

  • I really liked that Gail described this perfume as calming and centering, something we all probably could use right now. Also, how she described the opening as having an almost narcotic effect and the perfume seems like it really can transport you. The notes sound great to me as well and I have been interested in trying something with a more floral nature than I’m used to so this seems wonderful. Thanks for this generous draw. From CT USA.

  • What a lovely description of the fragrance and I adore the bottle! It’s so elegant and modern. The moon is such an iconic inspiration for calming, meditative, feminine fragrances. The lists of notes belies the floral feminine nature of the scent with pikake, ylang-ylang and passion flower and grounding woods. Would love to try this. I’m in MD, USA.

  • patrick_348 says:

Gail’s description of the notes made me say to myself, “This is going to be something different.” I liked hearing about the collaboration between Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva. Guillaume Flavigny, and Dr. Woo. In the US, in NC.

  • The fragrance Harmonist Moon Glory sounds so beautiful. Pikake , cactus flower and Ylang Ylang sound absolutely glorious. I have not tried any of Harmonist fragrances. Now I hope I will soon. Their website is amazing too. I love how Gail describes a pink moon and all the elements of the packaging and scent of the fragrance. I would love to try this one. Thank you and stay well. The thought that a perfume can be so relaxing is great! The fragrance explanation make you wish for a sample! I am from Illinois US.

  • chrisskins says:

When I read soothing, to the point of narcotic, it took me to a place I have with only a select few perfumes. The ones you love so much you don’t care (too much) about their effect on others. A perfume to soothe your own soul. Sounds amazing and the bottle is gorgeous. I live in NY.

  • I’m happy to see any other fragrance dedicated to the moon with notes of jasmine, ylang, woods, and balsams. And what a beautiful, classy bottle! I am in the USA.

  • I like the idea of something being “soothing as to be almost narcotic.”
A most interesting review and a fragrance that sounds as though it is meant for our times. Thank you so much for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Nice review as always. I like perfumes with a calming effect, especially one that last the entire work day, so this seems right up my alley. Intriguing list of ingredients and a lovely bottle. Regards from the USA.

  • I feel like a tattoo artist designed fragrance would be interesting to try, figuring they might have some insight to the skin and the way scent interacts with it, and the artistic knowledge and artistry their imagination would conjure. Thanks for the opportunity to try it! Greetings from California USA.

  • Dedicated to the moon, the Moon Glory is a calming perfume with lot of rich floral notes.US

  • The note description sounds like a rich fruity floral scent. But the description makes it sound like something which could help you relax and go to sleep. Like some ambient new age music, or something like Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, which I’m actually listening to now to relax before heading to bed.
Im in the US. thanks for the draw

  • vanillabean says:

I enjoyed the images included in the review. They visually impart the dreamy, serene, mysterious, and even haunting, aspects of the moon that this scent seems to evoke. The description of this fragrance as being narcotic is so enticing! I wouldn’t mind surrendering myself to the spell of this fragrance under a full moon. Thank you.

  • sounds lovely: “spirited away through a dusky twilight to a silent realm of flowers, an olfactory dreamland where all my worries, stories and obsessions fade”. nailed it.

  • doveskylark says:

I love anything related to the moon. As an insomniac, the moon is my friend. I am so excited to find out about Dr. Woo. I look forward to my first tattoo. I look forward to discovering this house. Dare I say I look forward to a night of insomnia?

    I live in the USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

Oh my this sounds incredibly beautiful. And what an interesting collaboration between three artists. Jasmine has that effect of calming me so this sounds divine. I think we could all use some calm in these chaotic times. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • This fragrance sounds all around fantastic. With the current situation, I think we all need something to ease our nerves, and The Harmonist Moon Glory sounds like it does the trick. I love that the fragrance was inspired by the moon and has this positive, yet mysterious presence. I would love to try this one! – From Illinois USA

This scent makes me imagine lying in a hammock on a tropical island at night, with a gigantic red moon and the scent of flowers and fruits in the air.

    Thanks for the excellent review.

I have not had the opportunity to try anything from this perfumer before.

  • Margarita K says:

I so love the tropical flowers smell and Gail’s description makes me crave it even more. It doesn’t help that we have snow this morning in Indiana, in the middle of April! And we are cooped at home.
The fool moon has an obvious effect on my mood, makes me emotional, exalted, restless. Imagining you watch it from a warm tropical island, pink and glorious like on Gail’s photo, makes this excitement good, almost erotic. Like waiting for something exiting to happen. I would love to smell this.

  • leboucher603@gmail.com says:

  • Gail’s review makes me wish evening was coming sooner,so I could relax into it, as the review makes the perfume sound calming and relaxing. to me it sounds like a spring or summer evening where the breeze is not too cool and not too strong. I would love to be able to try this scent – thank you for the review and the draw. In the US.

Always love hearing that a fragrance is long lasting. I love the moon, always so beautiful and we can look at it unlike the sun. I love that this brings serenity to body and mind, very useful in this challenging time. Having never worked remotely and being tech challenged I am turning to fragrance to calm me. I’d love to try this. Not familiar with this line, going to use the link on this page to go straightaway to the site (lets call it a break in working remotely). Beautiful photos as well. Thanks for the draw. USA.

  • Great review, this sounds gorgeous and I love that collaboration on the presentation. That bottle is cool but I hope she’ll decide to offer a travel spray!! Thanks for the review & the draw. I’m in the US.

  • Gail, as always, a fantastic review! I’ve been seeing ads for The Harmonist in Instagram and have been drooling. The moon, so powerful and mysterious, you have evoked it’s qualities in your choice of excerpt and your own prose. You’ve (very thankfully) given me more background on this brand as well. Thank you so much to both yourself and The Harmonist.

    I’m in the USA.

  • What I enjoyed from Gails review was the dreamy and calming experience the fragrance evokes upon the wearer. It must be well blended to have such longevity and also be calming. Thanks for the draw. I live in CA, USA.

  • Moon Glory review reminded me of me eating Lychee Cake in the middle of field full of flowers, and enjoying time.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign. USA

Gail left another wonderful review of a fragrance that I believe sounds fantastic! The notes are exotic and rich at the same time. The whole blend seems fascinating and it sounds like it would be an exquisite composition. I have only read about The Harmonist and have not had the opportunity to try their offerings, however, I would like for that to change as they have several offerings I would like to get my nose on such as Golden Wood and Hypnotizing Fire. Gail just added another one to my list. I love how Gail takes us on a fragrant moon journey! Thank you Gail, for the beautiful review of Moon Glory and for your take on this lovely concoction! A big thank you to The Harmonist team for their generosity and for this awesome opportunity! It is greatly appreciated! Thank you, as always, to Michelyn for everything you do! • I like how Gail first talked about the many beautiful attributes of the moon and then linking it to the Harmonist Moon Glory. I like that it’s long lasting and one can still detect the jasmine and passionflower.
