Best Spring Perfumes 2019 + Vernal Equinox Draw

Persephone Susan Seddon Boulet

March 20, 2019 at 5:48 EST is the Spring Equinox, and the day is as long as the night. Persephone returns from the underworld, flowers bloom and we begin to believe anything is possible again. Time to shake off the winter blues and spray on a scent that makes us feel renewed.  Our picks for the best Spring Perfumes:

Massimo Alfaioli© Faunus

Anatole Lebreton L’Eau de Merzhin (2014): Staring at the rising sun of March, colorful impressions flicker for a while as you close your eyes. It’s a magic that doesn’t happen in gloomy winter, a fairy dance celebrating the upcoming spring. Spraying L’Eau de Merzhin unfolds emerald, white and indigo sparks at first, blinking with the greenness of galbanum and buttery iris in the best possible fierceness of golden days. It’s Merzhin (the Breton name for Merlin) bringing back to life myths like Vent Vert or am I dreaming of Brittany folklores? Can you hear the bees buzzing? Perhaps I’m just a Faunus dreaming of months to come filled with linen pants and walks, cicada serenades to the first jasmine  blooms at sunset and fresh mown hay giving to the wind its intoxicating gilded spell.-Ermano Picco,  Editor

Ex Nihilo Viper Green (Nadège Le Garlantezec) 2017: What's springtime without a cool, green fragrance? Ex Nihilo Viper Green performs at its very best with the spring wind carrying its soft sillage: the moment you think it's become too intimate, it dynamically re-emerges. Bitter galbanum and green mandarin are mellowed by airy jasmine and dry iris, Rosyfolia® (a Givaudan-patented captive molecule) enhances the floralness, while herbal angelica, clean patchouli and sweet vetiver add depth and dimension. Viper Green's soapy, crisp-clean drydown makes it a lovely daytime choice; as we're heading for le retour des beaux jours, I crave for a breezy fragrance like this. Cold-blooded but not venomous, this Viper is a real charmer. Notes: Galbanum, Angelica Root, Green Mandarin; Jasmine Sambac, Iris, Rosyfolia®; Vetiver, Patchouli, Powdery Accord – Despina Veneti, Senior Editor

Neela Vermeire Rahele (Bertrand Duchaufour): As spring beckons but the days remain wet and chilly, perfumes that marry warming, rich winter notes with gossamer florals are rare indeed. Neela Vermeire’s gorgeous, shimmering Rahele is made-to-order for such times. I often think of Rahele as the globetrotting, insouciant sister to Neela’s sumptuous odalisque, Trayee. The two perfume do not smell alike but share a central opulence and seamless interweaving of floral notes.  Rahele, which means traveler in Persian, wanders elegantly from silky, evanescent sprays of magnolia, rose, jasmine to its centerpiece of fruity osmanthus and spice without a flaw. It possesses the singular, poignant beauty of early spring: reminders of warm spice from winter clinging to ethereal, fleeting blossoms in sumptuous harmony all the way to its chypre base. Rahele is one of those rare fragrances that, smelled on a slight breeze with the sun hanging low in the sky, can bring tears to my eyes. Notes: Green mandarin, cardamom, cinnamon, violet leaf, osmanthus, rose, magnolia, jasmine, iris, violet, cedar, sandalwood, oakmoss, patchouli, leather.Lauryn Beer,  Senior Editor

As clumps of dirty snow cling to the roadsides and ice and freezing rain continue to fall from the dark skies, all I have to do is dab on a touch of Olympic Orchids Sakura by Ellen Covey to remind me that the beauties and blooms of springtime are right around the corner. Dr. Covey's Olympic Orchids Sakura wears like a cool breath of springtime air, suggesting the sweet mineral qualities and ethereal, earthy scents of newly opened cherry blossoms, suffused with hints of the rich, summer fruit yet to come. Guerlain La Cuvée Secrète (Thierry Wasser) There’s a feeling of spring in the air. Finally. The daffodils are budding, the peepers (tree frogs) are back in the wetlands north of our house, and wood stove use has been cut in half. We are all so ready for spring after this past interminable winter of cold and snow. I’m looking forward to getting a lot of use out of my bottle of La Cuvée Secrète (The Secret Cave) Guerlains’ 2017 Eau De Cologne for the “Les Eaux” collection. Created with only three noticeable notes, L Cuvée Secrète is a breath of fresh spring air through doors and windows opened wide. Although it tends to fly under the radar, this is cologne done right and a real sleeper in the Guerlain canon. The bergamot is bright and zingy, the fougere-like aromatic lavender is perfectly bitter-ish and dusty floral, and the petigrain is a woody and green addition that sits perfectly in the blend. Although longevity is trivial at best, with a 250 ml. bottle one can spray and re-apply with abandon. Maison Guerlain describes La Cuvée Secrète as  “…Ultimate refinement. A hallmark of the Guerlain art of living.” I wholeheartedly concur! Notes: Lavenderbergamot, petigrain– Robert Herrrmann, Senior Editor

CB I Hate Perfume Fire From Heaven – (Christopher Brosius) 2007: "The sun has teeth", my grandmother would say, back bent, tilling and tulip bulbs in hand. "But it's still the sun"- and she would keep mending her peasant garden, turning the earth and liming the fruit trees, burning a candle and humming a prayer, repeating her mother's annual movements. Ethereal but humid, comforting but slightly cold, Fire From Heaven smells of all that- smoke, earth, Orthodox rituals, buds, sunlight, and a universal memory telling violets to grow in ditches, bees to awaken, snails to start leaving shiny trails, and smoke to rise in all villages. Resinous par excellence, Fire From Heaven does not impose with the heaviness of straight balsamics; it rather simply IS, like air filling all the space at its disposal. Or like the rural trust that spring will, eventually, come. Wanderer’s malaise accompanies The Eternal Return and Vernal Equinox, as far as I can tell: to quote Joni Mitchell, “I get the urge for going”. I crave its wild winds, nascent undergrowth, the constancy of evergreens and sweet buds of Spring. A photo-realistic perfumed snapshot of the California coastline is available to us all – the intrepid delight of Ineke Rühland’s Idyllwild. Rhubarb tea is enamored of zingy sulfuric-overtoned grapefruit and as a couple they are mouth-watering; a natural foil for lavender, as combined this trio conjures en plein air. The jammy, woody, terpenic all have their parts to play: warmed soil sings the feral notes of musky roots we tread, the crushing of cypress, fir needles underfoot. Take a long deep breath. You can’t make Nature stay, but one spritz will encapsulate its charm indefinitely. There’s a reason that Idyllwild was one of the best perfumes of 2017Notes: rhubarb tea, grapefruitlavender, Big Sur sagebrush, cypressfir needle, cardamom, woodsoudmuskIda Meister, Senior Editor and Natural Perfumery Editor

Parfumerie Generale PG19 Louanges Profanes (Pierre Guillaume) 2008: I fell in love with Louanges Profanes for its milky scent of lily and orange blossom made light by soft incensePierre Guillaume created a simple and masterfully blended perfume that is heavy enough to be soothing, hypnotic enough to bore down into my soul, and bright enough lift my spirits on high. Only later did I learn that name of the perfume translates into a prayer in everyday words and that each note has religious significance. “Heart speaks to heart” indeed. Grandiflora Sandrine – (Sandrine Videault) 2014:  It is beautiful and apt that as the Perfumer Sandrine Videault departed this life, she left us,  through Saskia Havekes this profound promise of Eternal Return, in one of her last creation. Verdant and sharp vestments of citrus and pepper, wispy heralds like attendants scattering petals upon a wedding path. Grandiflora Sandrine, the emergent bride on the threshold, milk-white skin secreted away in encasement through colder months. Sandrine captures the glossy greenness of Magnolia foliage, yet the focus is downy calyx and purest waxy candle of Magnolia capsule, tight and embraced. Garden accords and woods layer potent latency, poised on the verge of the explosion of lustrous, lathered fragrance. Nascent, poised bud released from its marron velvet casement, a fragrance reminiscent of the silken Lanugo of a baby. Musky parting as the buds yield their cocoon-like embrace, shedding a few dewy tears of saline exudate, heralding the entrance-ment of the triumphant bloom. The defeat of Winters stagnancy is inscribed boldly on this creamy, viridis parchment. When I need an instant dose of sun I spray Linda Pilkington’s Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus (2006) with abandon. It is not a complicated fragrance, but I am growing weary of complex; I long for simple pleasures and blue skies. Osmanthus is fruity, in a good way, with a bright citrus top of pomelo that brings to mind a glass of iced tea sipped on a porch when the sun is shining. The heart of osmanthus absolue and jasmine sambac absolue is redolent of citrus fruits and apricots. The woody drydown is light and airy. After 6 months of wearing black tights and boots, Osmanthus is the perfume equivalent of wearing a flirty short skirt that bares your legs for the first time in ages. Pomelo, artemisia, red pepper, osmanthus, water lily, jasmine sambac, cedar, labdanum resin, vetiver, musk-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

  • I always enjoy seeing the contributors fragrance picks when the seasons change.  This list is no exception.  Some loving fresh, green grass and others looking forward to the smell of flowers blooming.  Truly, fragrance is such a personal part of us. How wonderful that we can decide each day to choose a scent according to our mood.   Although I am completely unfamiliar with all of these fragrances, I so appreciate the excitement the list brings me to discover something new!  I love that part the most! I would love Ormande Jayne Osmanthus.  It is my favorite floral always. Thank you for the opportunity to win!  In the USA.

  • Spring is my favorite time of year, as it is for many. I so appreciate such lovely inspiration for new scent discoveries that embody fresh, new growth and vitality. Ineke Idyllwild would be my choice for exploration because it really represents the feeling of earth and the elements coming alive in spring. Thank you for the opportunity to win one of these beauties, located in USA.

  • I don't have experience with most of these perfumes except Rahele and L'Eau de Merzhin. I agree they are both great choices for springtime, with a slight preference for Rahele. My personal spring perfumes would be Vent Vert and Nicolaï's discontinued Le Temps d'une Fête. In my mind galbanum is a perfect spring note.

My pick would be Neela's Rahele, because I've always liked all her creations and I think they associate perfectly the French style of perfumery and Eastern cultural background. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity! I live in EU.

  • I am not familiar with any of these, but from Sebastian's description I would love to try Guiding Water. It sounds like it might be the perfect addition to my spring and summer collection. I am in Michigan, USA.

  • Nice choices i thought it was a good list. I dint have have many spring perfumes as i tend to like heavy ones. This list made me want to try some of them out to expand my horizons. I would like to win guiding light becuase i want to find a good aquatic and the note of watermelon sounds very intriguing. Also i tend to agree with Sebastians reviews and trust his aquatic pic (since he doesnt love aquatics). Thanks for the opportunity to win. I live in the USA.

  • Imohamed76 says:

I have never sampled any of these fragrances, I would love to try Guiding Water. Hear watermelon as one of the notes already makes me reminiscing of spring and Summer. Also I think this Frag might good fit for Summer season due to its fruity composition.

  • I love floral/green perfumes for Spring, I haven't try any of decribed scents yet, but I hope It'll chsnge 😉 I'd like to win in order:

    1. Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    2. Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    3. L’Eau de Merzhin

     4. Grandiflora Sandrine

    I live in Poland

  • I love seeing the choices that different contributors make for the changing of the seasons!  If I were to be a lucky winner, I would choose Neela Vermeire's Rahele.  The description of it marrying warming notes with gossamer florals sounds lovely indeed – perfect for the in-between-ness of early spring.  Writing from NC, USA.  Thanks for the drawing!

  • fazalcheema says:

I found Rahele, Osmanthus from OJ, and Louanges Profanes quite intriguing. All of the perfumes in this draw seem to have either green or floral themes, in line with the images spring conjures up in our minds. My choices are:

    Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    I am in US

  • I have heard a lot about Anatole lebreton and read his reviews here about Grimoire, cornaline but love Ermano review of Leau de Merhzin with galbanunum sounds great as does Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus although really different; I also love all the art. I would love to win either. USA reader and registered.

  • I’m not familiar with any of these fragrances. Thanks for the amazing giveaway, i would love to try all of them. My order is : Osmanthus Ormonde Jayne, Neela Vermeire Rahele, Anatole Lebreton L’eau de Merzhin. I am in the EU.

  • Yes, springtime! It makes me think of the beginning of blooms, greenness, and freshness in the air. It's always interesting to see the variety of perfumes that one can associate with spring, though admittedly springtime can be very different in different locales. I'm interested in (in order of preference):

Osmanthus, The Harmonist Guiding Water, Neela Vermeire Rahele, Ineke Idyllwild, Sakura, and  Grandiflora Sandrine

I think they all have a freshness about them and the emergence of greenery and blooms after the chill of winter. I do like how some of them still keep a little bit of coolness about them as I don't want anything that promises too much heat (yet!).

I live in the USA; thanks for the givewaway!

  • I love the newness of spring and all that it represents, its great that the contributors hve the same feeling and the perfect scents to go with it. I am from the US and I would love to win :

    Ormande Jayne Osmanthus

    The Harmonist Guiding Water

    Sandrine

  • I love spring and green fragrances! A few favorites are Dryad, Vent Vert, Decou-Vert, Silences, and of course Chanel No. 19. I would love to win any of these, in order:

    1. Grandiflora Sandrine

    2. Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    3. Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    4. Ineke Idyllwild

    5. L'Eau de Merzhin

I live in the US; thanks for the draw!

  • what you thought of our  best spring  perfume choices (amazing and I haven't tried these), the spring perfume you would like to win (probably the Neela though I do love osmanthus) that are available (there are 8) and WHY, (I've wanted to try more Neela Vs and the loss of Vero reminds me to enjoy a perfumer before it is too late), and  where you live (USA)

  • Elizabeth T. says:

This is a great mix of new perfumes and older ones that weren't on my radar (like Louanges Profanes). L'eau de Merzhin – galbanum and iris, a perfect summer combination! I've been wanting to try Rahele for a while now because of the osmanthus. Idyllwild, too, has been on my wishlist because of the rhubarb, roots, and fir needles. Viper Green appeals to me because I love green perfumes… and I want to smell that Rosyfolia in it. Thank you for this great list of spring fragrances… I can't believe it's finally here! I wore Iris Ukiyoe today in honor of the change of season. I'm in the USA, and would love to win any of the fragrances I mentioned. Thanks for the generous draw!

  •  Guillaume Flauvigny is a house I've never heard of until Sebastian put it at the top of his list. I trust sebastian's nose wholeheartedly. The only frag I am not to curious about is the Olympic orchids sakura. I have yet to encounter a sakura based scent that I like.

My choice would be guiding water (usa)

  • bigscoundrel says:

Wonderful selections for Spring! I’d love to own The Harmonist Guiding Water, because Sebastian sold me on the watermelon and aquatic notes. I’m in the US.

  • tuiu silver says:

I really enjoyed the list this time, especially because we have a lot of contrast between  the fragrances profiles. We have a little more floral fresh on some options, but also some fruity and ozonic on anothers and thats what spring is to me: Beauty, Fresh Air, Fruits, Watery feel…

I would love to own Osmanthus from Ormonde Jayne, simply because I think it has the perfect balance between fruity, fresh and floral. And I love the tropics, so Pomelo and Appricot (from osmanthus) sounds delicious to me.

I live in the US and I want to join the giveaway please. Thank you.

  • I love crisp green perfumes and Ex Nihilo Viper Green sounds like it would perfect. Thank you for explaining rosyfolias well. Next I would enjoy Anatole LeBretone Eau Merzhein

Thank you for the reviews they were all great

  • Thanks for the great giveaway. Fragrances for spring remind me of the scent of greenness and blooms brought by the breeze. Most fragrances in my collection are also best for spring – they are floral, sweet, cheerful and not overwhelming. Honestly I'm not familiar with most of the fragrances in the list. However, I would pick Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus if I have to because the scent of osmanthus is my childhood memory while I grew up in China. Guiding water would be also great because it was Sebastian's video that led me here. 🙂 I'm in the US.

  • All of the fragrances mentioned are lovely. Everyone is waiting for the warmth of the sun. My nose would love to try Ormonde Jayne's Osmanthus. I would find a nice quiet place and enjoy it tremendously. Thanks for the opportunity! USA

  • Happy Vernal Equinox!  I particularly like these reviews because the choices are not the usual spring scents one would hear mentioned.  I've not tried one of them, but I have tried many of these houses and have great respect for all of them.  I also particularly love the Susan Seddon Boulet image.  I'd love to win the following:

NVC Rahele, OJ Osthmanthus, or PG Louange Profanes, because I'm a huge fan of these 3 perfumers.  Thanks so much for the draw.  I live in the U.S.

  • citizenkage says:

Living in South Florida, spring is more like summer…so is fall and winter. With that said, I really enjoy wearing aquatics. Sebastian's review on The Harmonist Guiding Water sounds amazing. If I had to choose one, that would be it.

  • I loved the variety of fragrances and would love to win all of them.  I would love to especially to win : Grandiflora Sandrine; Neela Vermeire's Rahele; Anatole LeBreton L'eau de Merzhin; Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus; The Harmonist  Guiding Water.  Thanks for a wonderful review and a generous draw.  I'm in the USA

    .

  • I love the editors choices and I'm totally into green florals as well as oakmoss recently. I can't get enough of my favorite ones–Puredistance Antonia, Chanel No 19 EDP. I would love to win L'eau de Merzhin or Green Viper. I'm in the USA.

    Thanks for the oppurtunity..

  • What's beautiful article. so nice pictures and great choices for spring time.

I love Ex Nihilo Green Viper – delicate, fresh green perfume.

I like Ineke Idyllwild- flowers in spring.

I would like to win: Rahele, Osmantus Ormonde Jayne or Viper Green.

    US

  • marcopietro says:

I am fascinating by the Anatole Lebreton L’Eau de Merzhin description posted by Ermano Picco.
His imaginative and poetic words make good the magical allure of the fragrance, like luxuriant and brilliant vegetations of a pre-Raphaelite painting come to life.

I'd like to win Anatole Lebreton L’Eau de Merzhin, Neela Vermeire Rahele, Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus, or Grandiflora Sandrine.

I live in the EU, thanks for the givewaway!

  • I can;t wait for spring to get here. It's still cold and wet, and I have yet to see one little crocus. That's why it's time for spring fragrances — hastening the season, and lifting us out of the winter blues with some fresh greenness and florality.

Ineke's Idyllwild is the spring fragrance that calls to me. I've only visited California a few times, but that juxtaposition of rhubarb tea and grapefruit makes me thirst for that tartness on my tongue, and the woody scent of bushes about to bloom. Yes, spring is fleeting, but it's something to savor while it lasts.

Thanks to Ida Meister for her delicious description — that's what puts Idyllwild at the top of my list!

    I am in the US.

  • I would love to win from Neela Vermeire her creation Rahele as I do not know anything from this house and the reviews about it sound fantastic! I am in EU. Thanks!

  • adriana860 says:

I had not sampled any of the above fragrances mentioned but I would love to receive a bottle of Guiding Water by Harmonist as Sebastian's video had me enchanted with the description of the fragrance. The juicy note of watermelon is something I have loved over the years in hot summers. I would be thrilled to try! I am from CT in USA.

  • Dane Levis says:

I think Osmanthus and Idyllwild are your best choices! Both sound original and appealing.  The spring perfume i would like to win that is Idyllwild because of the rhubarb tea, grapefruit and lavender notes in the fragrance. The combination of those three sound heavenly. I live in the USA.

  • Sebastian, great review of The Harmonist Guiding Water.  This is an interesting fragrance being a fruity, floral, and aquatic scent with a Parfum concentration.  A potent fresh scent ideal for a spring or summer night when its not too hot out.  I haven't tried anything from this fragrance house.  For the giveaway I am loyal subscriber from Ohio, USA.

  • Lara Anderson says:

Sebastion has made another wonderful discovery. The combination of the watery and ozonic notes with the watermelon sounds lovely, interesting, and somewhat ethereal. The Guiding Water by Harmonist is something I have wanted to try for a long time. It would be lovely to receive this. I am in Florida in the US.

  • Some nice choices, esp the Rahele and Idlyllwild. I'd like to win the Rahele because I like it so much already. US

  • A lot of these fragrances I am not familiar with but I own ineke idyllwild which is a great spring scent . Viper Green or Rahele would be my choice although Sebastian’s video on Harmonist was good …iffy about watermelon though

  • I think the Spring choices are EXCELLENT! I had a hard time choosing which I would choose but I narrowed it down to three in order of preference that I would love to win. Thanks for the opportunity!

    1) Magnolia Grandiflora Sandrine – This one sounds so lovely and green – perfect for the Spring. I love the grapefruit note and hear this one has a strong one.

    2) Harmonist Guiding Water – The airy watermelon aquatic-ness of this fragrance sounds so refreshing for Spring! My wife and I would both enjoy this one and the freshness is something I'm drawn to.

    3) Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus – I just love floral fruity fragrances and this one doesn't sound like it would disappoint – great for Spring. I've never owned a fragrance with a pomelo note so this one would be a first for me!

    Arkansas, USA

  • I do not familiar with the perfumes from the list, but from the notes, I think that they are great choices. Finaly spring! 🙂 If I would be as lucky to win, my choices:

    – Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    – Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    – Anatole Lebreton L'Eau de Merzhin

    – Grandiflora 50 ml of Sandrine

Thank you very much for the chance. I live in the EU.

  • These beauties are perfect for spring. I am drawn to Osmanthus by Ormonde Jayne,  grandiflora magnolia sandrine and to Olympic Orchids Sakura

Thank you for all the time your writers spend on these posts. I book mark and I do sample as much as I can. I once did a blind buy on Ormonde Jayne Tolu from a winter post .

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

So many interesting and diverse choices for spring, on that is in my top five favorite fragrances (Idyllwild), several that I have not tried and a couple that I had not heard of, it is always fun and enlightening to see what your editors recommend.  Of these, I would choose Viper Green, billed by the house as "sensual poison".  Second choic would be Guiding Water, as I love water lily and watermelon notes.  I live in the US and thank you for this chance.

  • Thank you for a wonderful selection of spring-inspired perfumes. I was pleasantly overwhelmed to see how these fragrances are different from one another despite the common theme. Therefore, choosing one wasn't easy. After some consideration, I would like to select The Harmonist Guiding Water. I am especially intrigued by watermelon, a note we don't always see in perfumery. I also get the feeling that this is a very elegant fragrance, given the choice of cyclamen and lotus flowers. I live in the US.

  • Osmanthus is a cheerful and romantic fragrance of spring and I can agree! Spring fragrances are in my mind fresh floral and bright in expressing new life of nature… And from the examples given above it seems to be true. Osmanthus from Ormonde Jayne fits the bill… That is my choice… I do live in the US. THANK YOU,

  • Thank you for the great {as usual} video fo the Harmonist Guiding Water.  Spring has sprung here in California with dafodils and Lavender blooming.  Such a beautiful time of year.  Lovely article and fun subject.  Thank you for the chance to win. I have been wearing Ellen Covey's sakura fragrance too.  I would be pleased to win

    Hamonist Guiding Water

     Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    Viper green

    Thank you

  • Lovely offbeat spring choices which dodged a lot of cliches while still staying true to the spirit of rising sap and new green nature. (Interesting, too – I love CB's Fire from Heaven but would have thought it a winter-burning-resins thing, but can see how it would fit spring, as well.) I don't wear it myself, but for me Zoologist's Dragonfly is another avatar of sparkling spring. I live in the UK and would absolutely love to try Olympic Orchids' Sakura, as Dr Ellen Covey's work has the key to my heart already but I've never sampled this one.

  • 2lipsinHolland says:

Love, love, love this blog – so many thought provoking descriptions of frangrances can be found here…Every change of the season I start exploring a note that I am "feeling" as my expression of the new season.  Last week I decided that this spring I would revisit galbanum in fragrances and Ex Nihilo Viper Green would be perfect!  Later in the warmer weather I am looking to explore Osmanthus as a note and Ormonde Jayne's expression of this note would be very welcome indeed! Thank you for the chance – I am in Europe!

  • RobertNicolasB says:

Thank you for another great Spring collection write-up!  The most intriguing fragrance for me was Sebatian's selection.  I love the lotus flower note and his description of how well Guiding Water transitions from top to mid to base sounds amazing.  My selections would be:

    1. The Harmonist – Guiding Water

    2. INeKE – Idyllwild

    3. Rahele by Neela Vermeire Creations

    Thank you for another opportunity!

  • doveskylark says:

I love the seasonal roundups and this one was particularly good. I am always in search of a new fragrance to honor spring, my favorite season. I love Lauryn's description of Rahele. I had no idea that it meant "traveler" in Persian. Those magnolia and spice notes would be a great companion to travel with, always just right, no matter the changing weather of spring.

My choices would be: Rahele, Viper Green, Idyllwild, L'eau de Merzhin

    I live in the USA.

  • Fascinated with the list for spring. I don’t own any of them but the one that sounds beautiful to me is Sebastian’s choice of the Harmonists Guiding Water. His description of the notes and his enthusiasm for the scent has my curiosity peaked. I would love to submit my name to win a bottle and enjoy an unusual combination of notes that are obviously art. I live in Clearwater Florida so all these would work for me all year! Besides Harmonists Guiding Water, Osmanthus and Sandrine sound fantastic. Thanks for the list.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

I like aquatic, ozonic scents. Sebastian's review of Harmonist Guiding Water piqued my interest, thanks. Virginia, USA

  • twiggy3634 says:

I love the array of selections, fresh citrus, earthy greens, and luscious florals. And the choices from lesser known houses gives me something to look into. I would like to win the Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus because ever since Sebastian's review on Parfum de Marly'd Oajan, where I first learned about osmanthus, I've been on a mission to smell it. I live in Indiana, USA.

  • I did not smell any of your spring fragrance choices, but the I Hate Perfume one caught my attention the most, with its resinous-labdanum-dark description. I love thinking out of the box and indeed, spring to me is not all about flowers and greens. Spring, as any other season and entity, is a state of mind. My own “spring perfume” par excellence is Un jardin apres le mousson. There’s something about it that makes me feel like the description of Rahele: it can bring me to tears at the right moment and place. That being said, I would love the chance to sample the Rahele itself, as well as Osmanthus and especially L’Eau de Merzhin, which looks very appealing and non-spring springy by its notes. From EU.

  • Lovley choice of spring scents. My favorite is Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus, becouse it has freesia and jasmine, one of my favorite notes! It's green, fresh and flowery and perfect for spring!

    I live in Dublin, Ireland

  • I loved your article and would love to smell CB I Hate Perfume Fire From Heaven.  It sounds so beautiful.

Of the choices, I would choose The Harmonist Guiding Water perfume.

    I live in the USA

  • I don't know any of the fragrances you have picked, so I can't really give you an opinion of your chopices. However, I trust your noses and would lay odds that they are all very nice.

My choice would be the Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus, because I have Black Gold and I think it is an amazing fragrance, so I have trust in this house.

    I reside in Canada.

  • These are some nice picks. I haven’t tried one from this list. Some are more interesting to me like Guiding Water, Osmanthus and Rahele. This Spring I’ll be mostly wearing Bal d’Afrique. Thanks, US

  • I always enjoy seeing the seasonal lists and the picks do not disappoint. Guiding Water is not something I would normally seek out, but Sebastian's review made me want to try it. Neela Vermiere's fragrances are exceptional and Rahele is definitely on my spring list. I have a bottle of Anatole Lebreton's L'Eau de Merzhin, and the description is spot on. Chanel Bel Respiro always makes my spring list.
My choices are Rahele, Guiding Water and Osmanthus.
    I am in the U.S.

  • ElenaChiss says:

What a great list and lovely pictures as well. If I were to win, I would go with Rahele or Osmanthus.

    From EU. Thanks!

  • Your spring proposals are very interesting and tempting. I would love to win Rahele or Viper Green.

    I live in Romania. Thanks!

  • crisstyyn1 says:

For me, the best spring fragrance i have ever tried is L'artisan Parfumeur, La chasse aux papillons.

From the fragrances you listed i would be more than happy to try: Sandrine, Rahele and Osmanthus. Reading about those 3 made me want to try them asap ❤️

I am in EU, Romania. Regards and thank you for this nice giveaway.

  • I have never tried any of the fragrances presented. Their detailed descriptions gave me a sense of their notes and how they blend with my preferences and the spring. My favourite is The Harmonist Guiding Water but I also like the Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus and the Neela Vermeire Rahele. I’m from Romania. Thank you!

  • Hi, First of all, thanks for another fantastic draw!

Here in Paris, Spring has arrived full on and it smells herbaceous and delicious. Magnolias are blossoming and looking gorgeous everywhere!

Yesterday, to celebrate the first day of spring I bought myself a Jasmine plant.

I'm not familiar with any of reviewed scents and would love to try out Sandrine from Grandiflora.

    Happy Spring everyone!

    Greeting from Paris,  France

    Teresa

  • For me personally, I think the best one is the Harmonist, because I love watermelon, though I never have any perfume with watermelon smell, but I think it would feel great with a little bit wamer weather with a bit of sun.

But since I live outside USA, so I would like to win L'Eau de Merzhin, I am not so much a fan of a greenish but I do love Iris, and I like the bottle.

I live in Bangkok, Thailand and I hope I get a chance to try some perfume that's not possible to find here.

    Thank you for the giveaway

    Natt

  • I love how every editor has a 'vastly different' pick for their spring perfume choice. None of the creations sound cliche at all (this maybe the power of perfume journalism!). I would love to have a chance to win Neela Vermeire's Rahele. Based in Canada.

  • Very well written article ,thanks for bringing us these lovely sounding fragrances …I really love and look forward to spring…the perfect weather , mushroom picking, the smell in the air of pine and cedar honestly whats not to love. Anyway all fragrances sounded nice but one really stood out, jumped out that was CB I Hate Perfume Fire From Heaven ,wow literally love all notes its myrrh on top of sweet myrrh ,frankinsense labdanum with cedar & sandalwood etc. and im a resin and incense lover so this one its a must try.

Heres my list of fragrances in order I would love to win because im yet to try any and they sound beautiful

    1. Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    2. Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    3. L'Eau de Merzhin

    4. Grandiflora Sandrine

I live in Canada thanks for the great article and amazing giveaway

  • While I've tried none of your picks, Louanges Profanes seems very intriguing judging from the notes list (to be honest, anything with frankincense piques my curiosity). I loved Michelyn's review on Osmanthus: a bottled promise of spring is always a good thing.
I'd like to win L'eau de Merzhin: Ermano has mentioned Vent Vert in the same sentence, it's enough for me to become immediately interested. I've been trying to explore green scents for the last few months, who knows, maybe this Lebreton is what I've been looking for?

Thank you for the beautiful spring draw. Russia

  • I thought that all of these choices sound wonderful the description of almost every on sounded like something I'd enjoy wearing very much.

I have only sampled one of these but I love discovering new perfumes and notes if I were a luck winner I would be thrilled to try any of these

    1.The harmonist- guiding water

    2.Ineke Idyllwild

    3.Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    4. Ormande Jayne Osmanthus

Thank you to all the companies and cafleurebon for the chance! I live in United States North Carolina

  • Very lovely perfume choice for spring.

Especially I liked Mychelyn description of Osmanus Ormond Jane, although her first sentence was enough for me for being intrigued: "When I need an instant dose of sun I spray Linda Pilkington’s Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus (2006) with abandon"

Especisally I liked Rahele's description by Lauryn too and mostly this part ." Rahele is one of those rare fragrances that, smelled on a slight breeze with the sun hanging low in the sky, can bring tears to my eyes". Unfortunately, I've never tested Rahele.

    I would like to win:

    1. Wiper Green Ex Nihilo

    2. Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    3. Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    4. Grandiflora Sandrine

    5. L'Eau de Merzhin

    USA. DE

  • These are all lovely choices for spring. I’m so excited for spring because it’s my favorite time of the year.

I would love to win Worldwide: Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus because of the wonderful reviews on your website and YouTube.

    I live in California.

  • Hi Thank-You all for sharing such lovely descriptions! If I had to choose I’m loving osmanthus so Veela M C Rahele, Ormond J Osmanthus and then Harmonist Guiding Water then L’Eau de Merzhin Thank all of the donators of these lovely scents! USA

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

Great 8 choices. Love of them. But Ill pick as my fav Ormonde jeyne! A very intriguing frag for me.

    Miami Florida Thanks

  • Dubaiscents says:

I am really surprised at how many of these scents I have not tried yet. They all sound perfect for spring in unique ways (not just the standard “green” scent). I think I would like Anatole Lebreton L’Eau de Merzhin because of the mix of galvanism and orris. But pretty much any of these sound amazing and it is so lovely of the brands to offer them as prizes! I am looking forward to spring weather! I’m in the US.

  • I love lists! I especially love CaFleurBon contributer lists. And I am always overjoyed when I get to make a list of lovely prizes to dream about! I'd love to provide a home for:

    1. Ex Nihilo Viper Green – I live in a desert, and cool green scents are so very welcome once things warm up.

    2. The Harmonist Guiding Water – I enjoy aquatics, and I enjoy Sebastian's videos and take on scents.

    3. Ineke Idyllwild: I love  her After my Own Heart and Briar Rose creations, and I have a soft spot for scents that conjur up the looming redwood giants of my childhood camping trips through California.

    4. Grandiflora Sandrine – This one sounds delightful. Citrus + fresh  garden + marine = yes please!

Thank you to all the contributors, and many, many thanks to the people who created these lovelys and make these giveaways possible. I'm in the USA.

  • I love these lists and seeing all the different tastes of the various editors. I do believe Lauryn is my scent twin as she always describes things I think I'd love, or at least hre words make me think that. All the various choices sound so alluring and just show the diversity or tastes in perfumes. I would be thrilled to win any of these, but these are what would be my utmost choices:

    Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    Viper Green Ex Nihilo

     Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    Idylwild

Thanks for an inspiring review of spring scents. I am in USA

  • Wow, incredible chance. I would love to win from Neela Vermeire her creation Rahele sounds very interesting for me.

    I am in EU. Thanks!

  • Andreea Florica says:

I love all the prizes. The Sebastian’s review is great. In my mind I would to win Rahele and my second choice is Osmanthus. Good luck all.

    I live in EU.

  • They all sounds like terrific fragrances but after watching Sebastian's review he makes me want it even more. This is a fantastic opportunity for all fragrance enthusiats and collectors. I would lean more towards the Harmonist's Guiding Water which sounds perfect for the upcoming spring months. My birthday is in spring (April 24th) which is a perfect gift to settle in for the rainy spring months here in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA.

  • The lists from contributors are great because they offer a wide view of now the numerous releases and that is just simply impossible to be up to date with.

I'm not familiar with any of the ones mentioned because I just simply stopped trying to be up to date with fragrances.

But all the picks look amazing. Specially the Viper Green from Ex Nihilism.

I live in the US and I'd love to win the following

    Rahele from Neela Vermeire

    Osmanthus from Ormonde Jayne

Thanks and Happy Spring to all Cafleurebon readers!

  • redwheelbarrow says:

Sandrine sounds divine. The defeat of winter's stagnancy is exactly what I am pining for right now! (See what I did there, pine? Dry woods. Sometimes you can't stop the pun once it's formed). Puns aside, I have been craving a grapefruit dominant scent with some oomph and from your description this appears to have it. I love a peppery grapefruit. I was also quite captivated by your description of Viper Green as cold-blooded but not venemous. Your descriptive reviews make me feel as if I can smell these fragrances through my computer. Thank you for all of these suggestions and I expect several samples will be ordered soon. I am in the U.S.

  • So I LOVE the sound of PG Louanges Profanes because I am obsessed with anything milky. It sounds divine!!
Would love to win your generous comp. My choices are:

    Osmanthus from Ormonde Jayne
    Anatole Lebreton L’EAU DE MERZHIN
    Grandiflora Sandrine.

I am in Melbourne Australia! 🙂

  • It was really fun to see the different styles in one posting  There address so many that I would like to try. I'll have to look up PG19 lounges profane as  it sounds lovely  In order, I would love to win, OJ osmanthes, grandiflora Sandrine, Idyllwild, l'eah de merzhin, and guiding water. Thank you for the draw and the reviews! It just got warm here last week, and I'm trying to figure out which scents I own that can be cozy in the morning, on the way to the bus  and then spring-y in the evening on the way home when I have to carry my coat!

  • This winter was long and tough and I am so happy to smell the awakening of the trees and earth breathing again. This smell of the tree juices starting to flow, blended with ozonic solar tones, is my favorite ever. So I felt the most attracted to the description of L'eau de Merzhin by Anatole Lebreton and to that funny illustration. But I am planning to wear more florals this spring, so Rahele spoke to me as well. So this time I choose from your lovely list Rahele Neela Vermeire Creations and L'eau de Merzhin Anatole Lebreton (I live in the EU). Thank you for the inspiration!

  • bumbuliuki says:

Spring is my favorite part of the year. The smell of the flowering trees and the new life associated with this season is a wonderful and refreshing thing, especially after a long winter. I'm not usually drawn to the standard green perfumes associated with spring and am always searching for something special.
CB I Hate Perfume Fire From Heaven chosen by Dana and Anatole Lebreton L’Eau de Merzhin chosen by Ermano are two selections close to my heart.
Would choose any of the following:

    Grandiflora Sandrine
    Anatole Lebreton  L'eau de Merzhin
    Neela Vermeire Rahele
    Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

Thank you for the wonderful selection of fragrances for this ocassion and for a very generous draw !
    I'm in the EU.

  • Wow 1 of 11 ? I only know  Ormonde Jayne"s Osmanthus – never had a chance to smell the others.Ineke's Ruhland , Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele and Grandiflora's Sandrine all i'm willing to sample.

I do agree with our Editor-in-Chief's mini review … with a small note .The base of Osmanthus on me is not "drydown is light and airy" .I do get solid performance from my sample.

I would love to win one of Ormonde Jayne"s Osmanthus , or Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele .Why you ask? Osmanthus because i know how it smells , and i like the notes of Rahele.

Back and forth between USA and Scotland.1 week in US -> 1 week in Scotland and so on.Basically both US and EU/UK at the same time

  • Springtime in SF Eastbay is beautiful. The rolling hills are completely green–the newness of life is all around.  Actually all of California is great at this time. The Super Bloom is amazing. It is truly my favorite time of the year.   Ex Nihilo has great springtime options such as Cuir Celeste and Fleur Narcotique, so I'm sure Viper Green would be great.  Lauryn Beer's review of  Rahele is great.  I am due a joyous cry.  Beer's description of the in-betweeness of the fragrance reminds me of  spring in New England. If I were selected my ranked choices are:
    1) Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele
    2)Grandiflora Sandrine
    3)L’eau de Merzhin
    4) Ormonde Jayne  Osmanthus
    5) INeKE Idyllwild
    6) Ex Nihilo Viper Green
    7) Harmonist Guiding Water
     Thanks for the great giveaway

  • What a list! I have not had the chance to try any of the above mentioned perfumes, except for Ex Nihilo. However, if I had to choose, I would say Ormonde Jayne  Osmanthus would suit me.

I live in The Netherlands, Europe

  • Unlike some other subscribers I do not know all the fragrances on this list. Spring is my second favorite season after fall , but still depends where you live- spring in Miami is not the same like spring in Minnesota. From all the frags chosen by Cafleurebon most appealing one is Osmanthus plus I know Ormonde Jayne is highly respected house. Pomelo iced tea , apricots  , cedar fruity happy smell for the summer. Thanks to all contributors for the article  . Appreciate the giveaway campaign. East coast USA

  • I like the list it is very International with frags I have heard of but not smelled. I would be happy to win any but especially Anatole Lebreton and Harmonist. I already own OJ frangipani and they might be similar

USA subscriber to your site and to Smelling Great you tube

  • Some interesting choices by the reviewers. As much as I like Parfumerie Generale Louanges Profanes was super indolic . Sorry Marianne . Osmanthus sounds pretty good- peachy and leathery vibe is always welcome. Plus it’s made by Linda Pilkington after all. Thx to all involved in this giveaway- the reviewers , brands , Cagleurebon too. I really want to win Osmanthus Ormonde Jayne or Neela Vermerie Creations Rahele. USA most of the year, and Germany from time to time

  • Winter was long and cold. So Spring is very much welcome and a wonderful time of the year. I thought the Spring line is very diverse and international. Sebastian review was excellent in the description of a watermelon and floral light but intense of The Harmonist Guiding Water perfume. I would love to win either The Harmonist Guiding Water perfume, Ineke Ruhland INeKE Idyllwild,  Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. I live in the USA, CA.

  • I enjoyed reading this review and I loved some of the choices! I have not had the opportunity to some of them. If I were to win my choices would be:

    Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

    Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele

    Grandiflora Sandrine

    Harmonist Guiding Water

Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • dhruvmini01 says:

I thought this was a great list of niche goodies. The harmonist definitely seems up my alley with the Ineke coming in next. I haven't smelled a good rendition of watermolon in a fragrance lately. Shay and blue's take is a but too sweet, but I think from Sebastian's description it sounds just right!
