Ramon Monegal Heritage Drops Review (Ramon Monegal) 2022+ “ink of time” giveaway

Ramon Monegal Heritage drops

Ramon Monegal Heritage Drops is from the new Kaleidoscopic collection

I have been always been fascinated by heraldry and how it perfectly and seamlessly binds together blood ties, history, and art. Poetically described as “the floral border in the garden of history”, it has gradually shifted through the ages, from the battlefields and its sheer military utility to a more and more personal and symbolic tie to one’s heritage, achievements, and aspirations.

A lion, for instance, which in nature is not a very distinctive object, was portrayed, for greater distinction, with its leonine attributes, its fierce expression, frightful claws, lithe and lissome body all vastly exaggerated, so that indeed it looked more like a lion than did ever any lion of nature. In this wise, by turning away from true representation and adopting a character all its own, was the ‘heraldic lion’ born, and with it came also the manner of depicting all the other beasts and forms and patterns which are so peculiarly heraldic.”– Sir George Rothe Bellew

Looking at the inkwell in my hands, I heard the roar, smiled, and sprayed the fragrant ink on my wrists. The story unveils…100 years, 4 generations, one name, one bloodline, one passion.

Ramon Monegal Nogués inspired Ramon Monegal Heritage Drops

It all started with him. It was the turn of the 19th century and Ramon Monegal Nogues was an entrepreneur with an ambitious business plan and a vision way ahead of the time. He opened a drugstore chain all over Spain, first selling beauty products, then precious perfume oils and various raw materials.

Enter his son. It’s 1916 and Esteban Monegal Prat, an artist soul, with an artistic vision grandiose enough to meet his father’s business flair returns home from Paris. He unites the word myrron (myrth in Greek) and urgia (industry in Greek) and founds Myrurgia. Mixing his charm and artistic sensibility with his father’s resources and marketing genius, they begin producing fine fragrances and luxurious soaps on a larger scale. They soon became purveyors of the Spanish Royal family and their products crossed the borders, becoming sought-after luxuries in Europe, South America, and the USA.

The company grew with the times, one fragrant story after another, drawing inspiration from the gardens of Alhambra to the passion of the flamenco dance, with beautiful bottles and names that ignited the imagination and weaved magic around the “Spanish dream”: Maderas de Oriente, Maja, Joya, Flor de blazon, Suspiro de Granada, Lilas del Rey – to name but a few. Forward in time to 2000, when Myrugia was acquired by the fashion and fragrance giant company Puig and Ramon Monegal, after a few years of managing all the brands under the new umbrella, decided it was time for a new chapter in the family history. And so a new page was written.

Ramon Monegal composed heritage drops to honor his ancestors

When I look back, I see years of passion, effort, and dedication. But above all, I recognize those who before me were brave enough to begin the journey that I follow today.” -Ramon Monegal

I don’t consider myself to be a romantic, but I am drawn to all stories that involve the bonds of blood that transcend generations in that love-declined form of immortality we are given, through the love of our ancestors and the love of our children. And when that combines with art and family quests driven by passion – then we are in the presence of the rare stories that move and transform the world around them, rippling in circles that touch many and expand through the years. Like a heraldic symbol, knotting in its intricate design tales of love, passion and craftsmanship.

A note from the brand on Ramon Heritage Drops: “Not all jewels are made of gold. In 1919, the first perfumer in the Monegal saga created the family’s private perfume. Since then, each generation has modified it by adding its own personality. For the first time, the formula of our private perfume crosses the doors of our atelier.”

Heritage Drops felt like visiting an ancient castle and, through a strange turn of events, having visions of its heydays, superimposed onto the frames of the present, like sepia prints melting in the colorful waters of the past.

Starting off sharp, bitter, and astringent, a rush of adrenalized citric juices sizzle awakes the senses, with bergamot, lemons, and mandarins that sparkle cheerful, accelerated, like the first rays of the morning sun, caught in the glimpse of the silver coat of arms, guarding the entrance. Descending the stairs to the kitchen, you sense the ginger shavings, spicy and fresh, mix in with the greens of the aromatic herbs mixture, waiting on the table for the prey to be brought back from the haunting grounds. See the sap melt into petrified Drops in the pile of freshly cut woods waiting to be thrown into the fire of the ovens. Then up the stairs again, now on to the library, where the smell of leathery bound tomes, freshly dusted mix in with the air entering the large windows. Aromatic lavender and the cold breeze of the Mediterranean, bringing in its unique cocktail of herbs in wafts that seem to color the light in blue and green. There is humming, like an iridescent layer of freshness, a green iridescent lung that breaths in and out, in the rhythmic cadence of an ancient clock, ticking counter clockwise.

Ramon Monegal Heritage Drops is an elegant atemporal construction with a fresh zing. Feels like traveling back in time, as it nodes from all angles to the timeless classical structure of perfumery, yet it has the comfort and nonchalant aura of a modern perfume.

Notes: Top notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin; Middle notes: Petitgrain, Thyme and Rosemary; Base notes:  Geranium, Amber and Neroli.

  • As always, Nicoleta’s review is a delight to read as she writes with the soul and the skill of a poet.
As always, I would be thrilled to try any of Ramon Monegal’s perfumes.

  • I have a few Ramon Monegal’s on my wish list already. I really like a few I have sampled so far. This sounds like another one for that list based on the review. Especially with the citrus in the top, then moving into the smell of an ancient castle. Thank you for the draw! US.

  • Nicoleta Tomsa moody review of Heritage Drops almost transported me to Ibiza in a warm Fall day. I saw myself on one the yacht on the Mediterranean coastline. Navy Blue linen suit, Carolina blue shirt, no tie , and loafers.
What sparked my interest other than Nicoleta review, and learning about Ramon Monegal lineage, was how he’s family created private perfume , and each generation modified it , and added its own personality. I create bespoke suits for many years now , and the long being private Ramon Monegal perfume i find really intriguing.
Heritage Drops is long lasting, classy , and inviting at the same time.
Mid August I smelled Olé on a client at the tailor store, my first Ramon Monegal experience , it smelled so good on him .I sampled the fragrance first , and now i can say Olé with a bottle of my own
Thank you Nicoleta , and Ramon Monegal

Notes: Top notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin; Middle notes: Petitgrain, Thyme and Rosemary; Base notes: Geranium, Amber and Neroli. I am struck by the tradition, craftsmanship and attention to detail of Ramon Monegal as a house just stepped in history and tradition through the generations. Thanks a million from the UK

  • I love the story of family history here! A good heritage is indeed a precious thing. As far as the perfume itself, I love citrus and herbal notes together, and the idea of being both comfortable and classic. Thanks for the review and giveaway!
    In the USA.

  • Nicoleta mentions some classic Myrugia fragrances which I have in vintage formulations such as Maderas de Oriente and Maja. She says Ramon Monegal Heritage Drops has a timeless, classical structure and it is clear Ramon Monegal tried to pay tribute to his ancestors. I am in the U.S

  • One of the most famous quotes in the world of marketing , and storytelling is

In the luxury business, you have to build on heritage.
    -Bernard Arnault

It truly fits into Ramon Monegal lifestyle story well. He followed a similar path, and just like Bertrand Arnault, he build his own brand well , by building on heritage, but also his own vision of the world. Heritage Drops is a representation of the path Ramon Monegal followed his whole life, heritage fragrance with added 2022 personality.
Special cocktail made with pinch of refinement .
My favorite Ramon Monegal fragrance is Mon Patchouly . Half earthy, half chocolate patchouli, with amber and incense .
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • I love the concept of a family passing a perfume down through the generations. Heritage Drops Is the perfect name for it. I’m so curious to try this Monegal creation! ~Indiana

  • Wow! Nicoleta that’s quite a deep dive into the history of the brand. It’s also very kind of the house to offer their private family scent to the public and I’d be stoked to try it out knowing it had to be done for generations with love. I have and love Ramon Monegal Umbra and I’m in USA

  • Only last weekend I worked on some heraldic issues regarding my family crest. Is that a sign? I’d love to win these Heritage drops to Germany, thank you for the draw!

  • The story of the perfume what told in a very interesting way in the review, describing the citrus opening notes as the rays of the morning sun that are being reflected on the silver arms is just beautiful. Furthermore, the description of the aromatic notes is just as beautiful. The review portrays the elegance associated with the perfume in a truly romantic way. I’d love to wing the giveaway, I live in the UK.

  • Well, the middle notes of this, are very inciting for me, lavender, witch I adore, petit grain, thyme and rosemary….make this perfume a very warm blended ingredients and I really want to feel the smell of this special herbs combination. Regards from Romania, EU

  • Really nice to have this insight into the Monegal house’s history. I like how Heritage Drops is like a travel back in time, and that makes me very intrigued by it.
    Many thanks!

  • I love the sound of a classic, “glimpse to the past” fragrance with sparkling, refreshing and revitalizing notes. I loved the sound of the citruses, ginger and lavender, typical to a classical cologne. I find modern reinterpretations of traditional “styles” of fragrances to be very interesting and I am always very happy to smell them. I live in the EU.
    Thanks for the draw!

  • Ramon Monegal has some nice creations, that can easily fit every demand and are versatile enough to be considered a signature scent (for example Cuirelle and Next To Me). This latest release I am very curious about, since it has some personal history in the background, so it comes with a different vibe than the rest of the line.

Nicoleta is such a talented storyteller, I enjoy her reviews immensely! Even though it seems not too hard to build a story around such perfume — the name speaks for itself. Timeless and modern, elegant and fresh… I’d be happy to try this one on! EU

  • Sparked by the last paragraphs which includes, “Feels like traveling back in time, as it nodes from all angles to the timeless classical structure of perfumery…”. US

  • This is a very romantic story and review, and I think that is amazing that Ramon Monegal made the fragrance available for the public.

  • It’s the herbal notes and the geranium that interests me the most. I love that the family’s private perfume is being shared with the world. I enjoyed reading about the family history and viewing the pictures. One of my favs from this house is Olé. Thanks for another awesome article and draw. Mich USA

  • BostonScentGuy says:

I loved hearing about the history/family pedigree/story behind the brand. Interesting also to see the notes, which sound kind of “fougere-ey,” but to see this described as maybe a bit more woody and ancient feeling than that. Really interested in how it straddles old world construction and charm and new world ingredients and such. Thanks for the generous draw! I’m in the US.

  • The notes are interesting. Love Nicoleta’s review. I haven’t tried any Fragrances from Ramon Monegal . Heritage sounds wonderful.. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Nicoleta always delivers great reviews and this is no exception.
I loved the history behind the brand and I think I like Ramon Monegal even more now.
Heritage drops seems like a cool fresh fragrance, with the citrus, but with the uniqueness that ginger and spicy fresh gives to it.
Would definately love to try it.
    USA here.

  • Besides the beautiful bottle and the lovely notes in Ramon Monegal Heritage Drops, I liked reading about the history of Ramon Monegal and his father and their quest for excellence in whatever they pursued. I have never tried this brand. What I also like in Nicoleta’s review is how this perfume is both classic and modern aspects. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • What an interesting history of the Ramon Monegal fragrance house! Heritage Drops seems to be a time shifting scent, harkening back to the past. I enjoyed Nicoleta’s description of Heritage Drops as a visit to an ancient castle with visions of the place in its prime. Citrus and herbs with an ambery base sounds like a cheerful, zingy scent. MD, USA.

  • Lovely review Nicoleta! What sparks my interest based on Nicoleta’s review is how she describes the fragrance as transcending time, connecting generations through bonds of blood, art, and passion. I love fragrances with a sense of history and tradition so Heritage Drops sounds right up my alley! I live in the US.

  • Your description of entering an old castle and then having visions of its past was very interesting! And so interesting to hear about the family history. Thank you for the review, writing from the EU.

  • Nicoleta’s review made me think of Heritage Drops as being a very complex perfume and I am sure it really is. I am really intrigued by the idea of getting to smell a part of the Monegal family’s private fragrances.

  • A perfume with a background story, going back to the starting point of this house, many years ago. That’s quite something! Certanly something you don’t get to see everyday. Thanks for the review and the draw! Europe

  • Thanks for the review Nicoleta!

With the recent passing of our Queen Eliabeth III, my partner and I were amazed by a plethora of heraldry and symbolism. Every uniform, flag, and armour showed the most beautiful and interesting images which caused us to browse the internet a lot for their meanings and the stories behind them.
It’s great to read you are just a fascinated by them!

Heritage Drops sounds like a wonderful fresh and spicy fragrance to wear to any formal/official event. I would love to try it out soon!

    Gretings from the UK!

  • Thanks for the detailed intro to Myrugia and Ramon Monegal’s history in perfumery. Reading all the profiles and reviews here, I’m quickly learning that perfumery is often a family craft, shared across generations.

Heritage Drops sounds like an invigorating, complex citrus fragrance, with a relatively modest list of notes. The thyme and rosemary heart surely temper the opening a little and give this a barbershop like feel. I’d love to try it.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Michael Prince says:

What interests me about Nicoleta’s review of Ramon Monegal Heritage Drops is learning about the family history in perfumery and how they developed and progressed over the years. I love how Nicoleta describes this contempory style fragrance with a citrus zing and aromatic touches. I am from the USA.

  • Thanks Nicoleta for the great review and information about the history of the brand. Heritage Drops sounds like a lovely citrusy aromatic scent with woody notes. From EU.

  • Lavender and breeze from Mediterranean with cocktail of herbs…. All coming to the edge of my nose, creating an outstanding olfactory experience.. Love from EU (Greece)!

For me, family is everything. Connecting fragrance to moments with my family is powerful.
This article truly resonates with me. To see how fragrance and family have been intertwined through generations. I have an appreciation knowing that each generation has contributed and represents the fragrance that Ramon Monegal is sharing with the world. A creation that has been decades in the making.
I’m looking forward to experiencing Heritage Drops. USA

  • So this fragrance has more of my traditional summer notes of citrus bergamot lemon and mandarin. Another nice thing is that it doesn’t look like it will be overly sweet or Gourmand. My wife actually dislikes It when I wear something too sweet and syrupy. This may be the perfect compromise. Thank you. USA.

  • Regis Monkton says:

I’m interested in trying this fragrance for multiple reasons, e.g. thyme, rosemary, and neroli are some of my favorite notes/ingredients in perfumery. I want to see what a Ramon Monegal fragrance is like since I’ve never tried one before. I also want to see what the perceived ginger is like in combination with the herbs. I live in the U.S.A.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

This was an interesting write up by Nicoleta. Thinking about ancestors and their impact on progeny is something I never really considered until recently. My family wasn’t negligent but talks of generational history and lineage were never discussed. This particular offering seems as if it weaves a connecting web through Señor Monegal’s family line into fragrance, which is very intriguing. This would a great add to my collection should I win the giveaway. I definitely appreciate the offer. Many blessings from VA, USA!

  • Thanks for the great review Nicoleta.

It seems that Ramon has wrought his family history and coat of arms by way of this fragrance. What a beautiful set of notes – beautiful citruses, herbs and a simple base of geranium, amber and neroli to keep it simple, elegant and timeless.

Quite the departure from the regular Ramon fragrance offerings.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • It’s an honor, and privilege to follow up the path of your life, while stepping on the renowned Monegal foundation .
I like the heritage , and the strong lineage of Ramon Monegal , being 4th generation perfumer, not only his father , but whole family of famous perfumers.
Nicoleta Tomsa take on Heritage Drops made me think of making, and later eating Mandarin and Lemon Merengue Layer Cake ,drinking bergamot juice, while sitting right next to a pile of freshly cut lumber.
The only Ramon Monegal fragrance i know is Bravo. I had a small decant , and now a full bottle. In my Pastry Chef mind , smells like I’m eating Chocolate Ganache Cake with Cassis, drinking freshly squeezed apricot juice , sitting on a leather sofa.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • With such family tree, I can’t even imagine the level of expectations Ramon Monegal is facing ever since he was a kid.
All his fragrances I’ve smelled up until now are provocative, powerful , and almost bohemian , but Heritage Drops is different. It’s more classy , dressed up fragrance for people with high self esteem
One of my favorite fragrances is Impossible Iris again from Ramon Monegal. Modern and cozy fruity-floral.
    Thanks for the draw
