MATIERE PREMIERE Vanilla Powder Extrait Review (Aurelien Guichard) 2025+ Dark Vanilla Painted White Giveaway

Vanilla Powder Extrait by Matière Premiere

MATIERE PREMIERE Vanilla Powder Extrait via the brand

Vanilla is a raw material I’ve always wanted to include in the MATIÈRE PREMIERE collection. This fragrance is a refined vanilla: its dark richness is met with an explosion of modern white powders.”©-Aurelien Guichard for ÇaFleureBon on Vanilla Powder 2023©

Aurelien Guichard of Matière Premiere

Aurelien Guichard courtesy of the Perfumer

For the Extrait, Aurelien increased the perfume concentration of Vanilla Absolue and added tonka bean absolue, as the guest ingredient.

In his own words: “The tonka bean is first ground to powder, before being transformed into an absolute. I use it as a natural powder ingredient. It brings a voluptuous facet to Vanilla Powder and intensifies its character. The locally extracted absolute is obtained from carefully selected beans, grown and dried for nearly 18 months between the jungle and the ocean, on Fair for Life –certified land in northeast Madagascar. It offers the olfactive balance I was looking for. My goal was to create a vanilla like no other. I imagined a dark vanilla bean painted white. In my formula, I have contrasted this rich vanilla absolute with an overdose of modern white powders looking for: a dark, supple vanilla character, not overly sweet, with a salty facet” –Aurélien Guichard, Founder & Creative Perfumer

Main ingredient – Vanilla Absolute Fair for Life Madagascar/ Guest ingredient – Tonka Bean Absolute Venezuela

Notes: vanilla, coconut powder, tonka bean, palo santo, white musks

Reading over Aurelien Guichard interview it brought back memories when I was gifted Unforgivable by Sean John when i was younger. I’ve always wanted to try Matière Premiere’s fragrances but I never knew where to begin. I loove looove coconut fragrances since my journey begin so long ago when i discovered creed’s virgin island water. Steven mentioned coconut powder and immediately my ears and eyes perked up lol. I’m always searching for the next best coconut vanilla scent. This sounds sophisticated and smooth. I recently blond bought the bew Initio lift me up and i get loads of vanilla and powdery elements to that so i wonder how this smells compared to the initio. Something that I don’t see other people saying about that initio lift me up is how close ot smells like xerjoff white on white (more coconut and fig in that one but same milky vibe) I wanted to try Matière Premiere for a while. I wish there was a raffle to go to Steven’s place just to smell a small fraction of things that He suggests based on what’s in my collection. Fingers crossed! Thank you!

  • Angela Livingston says:

Steven is one of my favorite reviewers. I like how he describes fragrances and what kind of vibe it gives. I didn’t know that fig wasn’t a real accord. Always learn something. Love this brand also

  • Steve says this upgrade version of Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder is unique from most vanilla fragrances with the inclusion of the coconut powder giving the scent a “fantasy note” element that gives it an essence of fig for him as well as Helvetolide which gives it a warm, musky depth. Overall, he sees it as a well-crafted, beautiful and creamy vanilla coconut that is great for all occasions with increased longevity with the extrait version.

  • Sandra Prevost says:

I love Steven’s reviews as he is very descriptive and knowledgeable about fragrances. You almost feel as if you’re right there smelling it with him.
Aurelien Guichard Description on how he wanted this fragrance to smell gives you an insight into his genius mind about fragrances. I would love to have this as the original one is my favorite.

  • I’ve been waiting for this to come out sense last month. can’t wait to get my nose on it.

  • This had all my favorites! Vanilla, coconut, powder, musk. Interested in the sandalwood comment from Redolessence too where he mentions in his review, “And as this dries down you almost get a creamy sandalwood ingredient.”

  • Guichard’s quote “Not everyone can relate to a fragrance” should be my mantra because I’m often finding my favorite fragerances are not often appreciated by those around me some days of the week. Speaking of which, I often will layer his Falcon Leather with my decanter of his Falcon Leather Extrait Matière released last year which brings the birch tar further out is silage. I also have a decanter of his Vanilla Powder that’s been sitting around for more than a year. I would love to sample the extrait version.

I just finished Burr’s book, The Perfect Scent, and I can see the parallel journeys between Guichard and Jean Claude Ellena growing up in Grasse from that prior interview – two men from two very different generations.

    I’m in the US

  • Vanilla is my favorite scent for colder season, sounds interesting to me and thank you for review 🙂

  • soulofaqueen says:

I found it interesting how Aurelien explained the process of making the tonka absolute. Steven’s review was authentic. I love listening to his reviews, because he always lists his likes and dislikes. He mentioned that this fragrance seemed linear. That is definitely ok with me, because I live these notes.

  • Ramses Perez says:

The original version of this scent was already a viral sensation and I can only imagine what this new extrait will do. Vanilla happens to be my favorite note in perfumery so I do own lots of it and have experienced different facets of vanillas. I recently learned that the extraits each have a guest note compared to the original ones on top of a higher concentration of oils. Aurélien Guichard was always destined to be an artist and I’m glad he picked perfumery because he’s very good at it. Growing up in Grasse (where fragrances are credited being born) it only made sense for him to be an artists of sorts especially when the parents are always surrounded by other artists wanting to create unique ways of artistic expression (taken from the article). I must experience this one myself because Steven it’s getting a sort of fig scent which is a very interesting take on it. Also reading that the extraction process of this specific vanilla bean took 18 months only adds to the intricacy and uniqueness of how Aurelien approaches his creations. Many thanks to Twisted Lilly for the giveaway and to Steven/Michelyn for always imparting their knowledge onto us. I’m located in the USA.

  • It was interesting to read when Aurelien said he imagined a dark vanilla bean painted white. The video said this fragrance can last ten hours. I recall in an interview Aurelien said he was “raised between the fields of jasmine and roses that belonged to my grandparents in Grasse”. US

  • I can’t wait to try Vanilla powder extrait. I love Steven’s description of all the notes.I like how he explained that there are different type of vanilla scents and how the vanilla in this fragrance almost comes across as a fig vanilla. A quote from the article that I liked is “I still cherish this diversity and boldness in creation today.” Thank you for the opportunity.

  • I love “I don’t feel like my approach has changed, but it has certainly broadened.” This shows you don’t have to change to br successful, just learn and grow

  • Noelle S Robinson says:

I like the fact that both the article and the Redolessence review highlighted the fact that there is a difference between the two fragrances due to the change in a few of the notes as well as amping up some of the original notes. Although I did appreciate the og fragrance it was too coconut forward for my taste. I had to let it go to a home where it would be appreciated for it’s beauty and presence.

  • John Thornton II says:

I recently discovered Matiere Premiere fragrances and fell in love with the original vanilla powder. At the time I didn’t see an extract available so it’s great to see that one has been made around the time I first put my nose on it. I don’t own any from the brand yet, but vanilla powder extract is one that I have my eyes on!

  • Thank you for this review. I love the notes that are in this fragrance. I would love to smell this mysterious fig note in this fragrance. This would be a different fragrance in my collection. Excited to get my nose on this perfume!!!

  • This sounds so mesmerizing!! I had no idea that coconut powder could give off the illusion of fig, which I love!!! Amazing review!!!

  • I’m also so excited to see Aurélien’s interpretation of the “dark vanilla bean painted white!

  • reyessence89 says:

I always enjoy Steven’s reviews. He dissects the fragrance in terms of composition, performance, and sometimes history, which together give an accurate context to the perfume. What got me thinking though, after listening to his review is the concept of extraits, and whether that means the perfume is not finished after all. Why not make the perfume extrait in the first place? I’m sure there is a logical explanation to this…

As for Aurelien’s introduction, what caught my attention was the great deal of care put into growing, harvesting, extracting, etc. that goes into Matiére Premiere materials. Combined with Airelien’s skills and experience, the house produces strong offerings.

Quote from the interview – “When I do not work, I love wearing perfumes made by other perfumers, because I do not know the formula behind… it is such a pleasure when the creation is beautiful!”
Sometimes, it’s better to just enjoy it without overthinking how a perfume is made.
    I live in the US.

  • Cynthia Donate says:

A quote that resonated with me was Aurelien cherishing the diversity and boldness in creativity. With his outlook and appreciation for those aspects, I am certain Vanilla Powder Extrait will stop me in my tracks at first sniff!

  • Kristen Pedersen says:

I love powdery fragrances and vanilla fragrances, would love to get to try this one…As always I love Steven’s videos.

  • I haven’t had the privilege of owning anything from Matiere Premiere yet. I’ve been eyeing Parisian Musc and Vanilla Powder and love both scent profiles. I’m a sucker for extrait, and Steven mentioned that in his opinion, it’s a signature scent type fragrance. He’s pretty on point, plus you can’t go wrong with a vanilla scent. I hope to have a lot of Matiere Premiere fragrances on my shelf soon.

  • I enjoyed reading the introduction especially about the Tonka bean, how its used and sourced. From Steven’s video I enjoyed how he mentioned its a powdery vanilla and he experiences fig as well which is fascinating. I really liked reading about his childhood a lot very interesting i chose this quote,”I was lucky to grow up with them not only because they were successful and talented artists, but because they were open-minded and humble people, believing in diversity of talents and of visions of life.” Thanks for the generous draw, from CT USA.

  • I enjoyed learning of a new fragrance with notes I’m keen on that I likely would not have if Steven didn’t cover it on his YouTube.

Aureliens passion for perfumery is what I enjoyed learning the most from his interview. The quote “Opened my own organic farm and became the only perfumer to grow his own raw materials.” showed me how deep his passion is.

  • Loved learning about this new extrait from Matiere Premiere!! I appreciate the detail of the aging process from the review and the reference to other fragrances that have similar components to the wearing experience!! This one sounds beautiful and I will definitely try it soon!!

  • I am very interested in trying both Vanilla Powders! I love a unique take on vanilla and it seems based on Steven’s YouTube video and Aurelien Guichard’s introduction Vanilla Powder Extrait provides just that. Both Steven and Aurelien placed emphasis on the use of coconut to enhance the vanilla in Vanilla Powder Extrait. Michelyn’s interview with Aurelien Guichard notes his rich history of perfumers he was born into. Guichard quotes, “I was lucky to grow up with them not only because they were successful and talented artists, but because they were open-minded and humble people, believing in diversity of talents and of visions of life.” I definitely thought about how fortunate Aurelien is to have grown up around such rich history and culture. He couldn’t help but to be a creative person himself!

  • Nykeria Walker says:

What struck me most about Aurélien Guichard’s introduction to Vanilla Powder Extrait is how vividly he described his vision of “a dark vanilla bean painted white.” That image alone makes the fragrance come alive before even smelling it. I loved learning how the tonka bean is carefully ground, transformed into an absolute, and used not just as a sweet note but as a natural powder ingredient that adds depth, volume, and sensuality to the vanilla. The attention to sourcing—beans dried for 18 months between jungle and ocean on Fair for Life–certified land—truly reflects the artistry and respect for raw materials that define MATIÈRE PREMIÈRE.
Steven’s review captured that vision beautifully. His breakdown of how the vanilla, coconut powder, tonka bean, palo santo, and musks create a composition that feels both refined and modern gave me a sense of how this extrait balances richness with a soft, powdery elegance. His enthusiasm was contagious, and I could almost imagine the salty facet and airy texture he described floating over that dark, supple vanilla base.
Altogether, both Aurélien’s poetic introduction and Steven’s passionate review made me believe Vanilla Powder Extrait isn’t just a perfume—it’s an experience, a contrast of light and dark, comfort and sophistication. This is a fragrance I would love to have in my collection.

  • Greetings! The write up on this fragrance is spot on. I had the opportunity to smell Vanilla Powder Extrait in Neiman Marcus last week. My store does not carry it but my sales associate had a sample and sprayed it on me. I absolutely fell in love on first sniff. I would be oh so happy to have this fragrance. Gratitude for this opportunity!

  • This fragrance sounds so intoxicating and just made right. I love the original and I am sure the extrait will be amazing. Thank you so much for the giveaway

  • I would love to win a bottle of this perfume!! I enjoyed Steven’s review of Vanilla Powder because he did a great job comparing the original to the extrait. I also appreciated how Aurelien explained in depth how different and more prominent the vanilla is in the extrait. The original was definitely more coconut heavy so I look forward to trying the extrait since it has more of a deeper and darker vanilla!!!

  • I love how both Guichard and Steven get indepth with their parts, Steven explaining the art and Guichard creating it. The quote that stuck out to me most was “I have always been attracted to nature.” It is fascinating how naturally centered Guichard is, even given his use of raw and natural materials in his fragrances.

  • I absolutely adore Steven’s review!! I always learn a ton! Especially that the coconut accords can create a wonderful fantasy scent profile alongside the musk! the fact that the creator himself affirmed the 18-month process for grinding and that its entirety fair trade just makes it even more sublime of an experience. i typically love hefty dark fragrances, so i definitely need to get some hands-on experience with this masterpiece of artistry!

  • Hello!
Thank you so much for this giveaway!
I would love to win this fragrance
Maybe this time i will win!
    Good luck everyone!
    I love you btw redolessence!

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

From the interview “ To me, it is a return to the essentials of fragrance creation. I have always been attracted to nature.”. I love the way this guy creates fragrances. It’s very modern and stripped down. Focusing on key notes and elements.

I love Steven’s review and he makes this seems like a great one for upcoming cold season. I’d love to win this and live in Indiana.

  • Steven said this is a powder forward vanilla that is both fun and youthful. Aurelien said this dark vanilla is supple not overly sweet and slightly salty. I say I’m intrigued and in the USA.

  • Lisa Laesch-Vanstone says:

I can’t wait to get my nose on this! Stephen said that it’s elegant and refined, and I am so curious how the scent comes together with all of the “modern white powders” that Aurelien speaks of

  • I always enjoy Steven’s reviews and appreciate the information he provides in addition to his opinion. I enjoyed Aurelien’s introduction for the level of detail and thorough explanation of the scent. It’s as though I can really smell it just from their descriptions. “Raw materials are for me, as a perfumer, the colors that I use to create emotions.” Such a beautiful way to explain his process. I can’t wait to get my hands on a sample and would love to be the lucky winner.

  • David Frometa says:

Firstly I would like to say thank you for this opportunity to participate in this giveaway. In addition I want to express my favorite quote from Aurelein Guichard “Raw materials are for me, as a perfumer, the colors that I use to create emotions.” This speaks to me very profoundly because it lets you imagine exactly what his thought process is when it comes to designing perfumes. Now From Aurelien Guichard intro, what really got me was his vision: “I imagined a dark vanilla bean painted white.” The way he takes something so familiar like vanilla and makes it feel new, refined but still modern… that’s exactly what excites me about Matiere Premiere. Lastly Steven’s review: I like the fact he says how the powdery essence of the fragrance gives off a fig like smell even though it is coconut powder and vanilla. And he also expresses it as a creamy sandalwood. I enjoyed Steven’s review he always expresses the notes so well that I can almost smell it here . Thank you again for this opportunity from you guys and twisted lily

  • Steven is one of my favorite reviewers. I like how he describes fragrances and what kind of vibe it gives.
I feel like we kinda have the same nose so I tend to buy what he recommends

  • I liked how Steven explained the role of the coconut powder and how it adds a creamy, almost fig-like nuance. It gave me a clearer picture of how the extrait might feel compared to the original. The way he broke down the performance and smoothness of the scent made it sound more wearable and versatile than just a sweet vanilla.

From Aurelien’s intro, the description of a dark vanilla bean painted white sounds really interesting! It makes me think of a rich and textured vanilla but lifted through powdery notes, which sounds different from the usual takes on vanilla. I also appreciated the detail he gave about sourcing and using tonka bean absolute, since it adds to the sense of craftsmanship behind the fragrance.

    From Tucson, Arizona.

  • How amazing it is to learn from Aurélien Guichard that the vanilla is dried for nearly 18 months. Makes you respect perfumology. A quote that especially resonated with me from Aurélien’s interview was: ‘We decided our goal would be to turn a raw material into a perfume, with a unique construction: use a very high dosage of one central, extremely qualitative and natural ingredient, then use only a few more, equally qualitative ingredients to facet the main one.’

As for Stevens’ review this is confident, elegant, fun and outgoing without being serious. Also the performance is mentioned to be better, i want to try this for sure.

    reader from US

  • I often blind buy solely from the detailed descriptions of fragrances that Steven talks about in his videos. He has yet to steer me wrong and I’ve yet to be disappointed by a purchase. Vanilla Powder has been on my list for a while now, but it just hasn’t been in the budget.
The quote that resonated with me from the extra article was “ They were talented artists talking about their passion, exchanging and confronting ideas and experiences.” Seems like the perfect way to inspire a perfumer or any artist for that matter. Fragrance journeys are different for everyone and notes start to become visual pictures in your head from an individual’s past, like dancing biographical stories in your brain. An addictive experience in itself.

  • What I like about Steven review is how descriptive he is. The way he described Vanilla Powder original was spot on.

  • I like to original, can’t wait to try the extrait. Sometimes I like to original better and sometimes I like the more concentrated version better.

  • I was just talking today about how the business people are zooming in on the profitable business of large scale perfume making and the bottom line trumps putting $ into the ingredients and artists/perfumers. And it shows. Lots of promo but no great juice.
So this quote from the interview resonates with me “I am from a family of perfumers, and during my childhood, creating perfumes, growing flowers or perfume production appeared to me as part of our way of life, more than strictly a profession.”. Because this is his passion, culture, way of life. It’s not a new investment opportunity.
I would love to try this one!! I am in the U.S.

  • liquidasset77 says:

Both the article and Steven’s interpretation give me a sense that this is a a fantastic vanilla to get my nose on. It’s nice to see how a perfumer can reinvent their own creations. i love what they are doing at the house of Matiere and would love the opportunity to own this fragrance.

  • Sarah Crystal says:

Gosh this sounds absolutely divine. Great article, enjoyed reading! Really hoping to try it!

  • charitykelley375 says:

Love the article about the Perfumer Aurelian Gouchard,He had such an inspiring childhood with such artistic influence. It is so amazing how your environment can have a great impact on one’s individual interests and hobbies. His natural ability to develop such beautiful perfumes is admirable. My favorites from Matiere Premiere are Radical Rose and Santal Austral.Beautiful Parfums.

  • Guichard’s “dark vanilla bean painted white” concept is striking. Radical Rose is almost decadent in its jammy richness, so I assumed his take on vanilla would be similar, but Steven pointed out Vanilla Powder is diffusive, creamy, and musky (and obviously powdery). Plus the choice to include a “salty facet” is an intriguing point of distinction. Sounds like a notable use of coconut as well. When I read Guichard’s interview with ÇaFleureBon, I was struck by his description of Enfleurage, which is really cool: “It is a technique which uses frames with a glass panel that is covered with vegetal wax. Flowers are carefully layered on this wax that will absorb their olfactive molecules, with layers renewed until the wax is fully ready to be distillated.” Thanks for the review—I’d love to try this potent, linear fragrance.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Vanilla bean painted white with a salty accord, the ground powder tonka and the aging process of 18 months. This sounds like a premiere vanilla as described by Aurelien Guichard. Steven speaks on the diffusiveness
Sandalwood tinge and the creamy vanilla. This sounds fantastic

  • Thanks for the beautifully vivid review! Vanilla Powder Extrait is such a compelling reinterpretation of gourmand vanilla—the dark richness of Madagascar vanilla absolute meets a delicate snowfall of white powders and coconut powder, elevated further with tonka bean for a soft, voluptuous twist. There’s a subtle salty, almost fig-like nuance balancing the sweetness, while palo santo and clean musks lend structure and airy elegance. Truly, it feels like a dark vanilla bean painted white—modern, plush, and refined. I’d love to try Vanilla Powder Extrait!
    Cheers from WI, USA

Listening and reading the review makes me want this fragrance even more. I really enjoy Stevens description of the fragrances. I’m a big fan. Thank you!

  • Enjoyed learning about fig/coconut powder similarities- that was new to me but I love both fig and coconut so intrigued!

  • I love Vanilla Powder – wondering what the Tonka bean does to the fragrance? Quote:

The tonka bean is first ground to powder, before being transformed into an absolute. I use it as a natural powder ingredient. It brings a voluptuous facet to Vanilla Powder and intensifies its character.

  • I didn’t know that transformation of an ingredient to a powder format and then used as an absolute would change the character of the note. Tonka bean seems well suited to this technique and the balance it brings with its salty, dark facets serves the fragrance well. Steven mentions the addition of coconut powder and the milky fig note.

From the Guichard interview: “ Raw materials are for me, as a perfumer, the colors that I use to create emotions. I search and source the right ones to express my creative idea. Fragrances by MATIERE PREMIERE are just like their central raw material: they have no gender, they combine great power and diffusion with a sense of comfort, they allow you to comprehend what you are wearing, and smelling them will bring unique emotions.“. MD, USA

  • This vanilla, with some floral and the tonka bean sounds so lovely. Steven mentions the creaminess of the vanilla and how effortless it is. I’m very interested in the coconut notes he mentions. And I would love to try this scent. I would agree with M. Guichard that Grasse “… is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in Provence.” I dearly love Provence, and did visit Grasse many years ago, long before I started collecting favorite perfumes. Thank you for the lovely reviews and the v generous draw. In the Us

  • Love learning more about the source of the vanilla as well as the thoughts behind the fragrance from Aurelien Guichard. Great explanation and analysis by Steven and really interested in the effortlessness that Steven mentions in wearability, as well as the longevity.

  • thatgirl_kim__ says:

I enjoyed Steven’s YouTube review because he compared the original Vanilla Powder to the new extrait version so well even though I haven’t tried the og, I have a clear idea of which I would be more likely to add to my fragrance collection and Aurelien Guichard’s introduction just confirmed that with his statement of the guest ingredient being tonka bean absolute- a favorite of mine.

Additionally, a quote that resonated with me from Michelyn’s exclusive interview with Aurelien Guichard is:
“I was lucky to grow up with them not only because they were successful and talented artists, but because they were open-minded and humble people, believing in diversity of talents and of visions of life.”

  • Aurélien’s mention of using locally sourced tonka beans to make the absolute is intriguing. This aligns with a quote from Michelyn’s interview:

“Matière première” means “raw material” in French. It is the basic, starting point of our creative process”

I’ve always wanted to try the original but this has moved up the list. Steven comparing the fig (coconut lol) to scents like Le Beau Le Parfum makes me want to try this even more!

  • Kensolfactoryodyssey says:

Steven’s review captured how Vanilla Powder Extrait feels both comforting and modern, with the coconut powder and musks lifting the vanilla into something ethereal rather than heavy. I also appreciated Aurélien Guichard’s vision of “a dark vanilla bean painted white,” which perfectly sums up the balance of richness and brightness in the fragrance.

  • Aurelien mentions how the tonka bean is first ground to powder, before being transformed into an absolute and how uses it as a natural powder ingredient to bring a voluptuous facet to Vanilla Powder and intensifies its character. Now tonka bean is in my top 3 fragrance notes and I know it’s heavy in some of my favorite scents. Now Steven mentions how this is the type of fragrance that you wear when you are feeling confident and wants to be elegant without being to serious and those are the type of scents I love. I do have Crystal Saffron from the house and I m looking to add more

  • I love the idea of “voluptuous” vanilla in Aurelien’s introduction. Steven’s description of the polished and versatile character of this fragrance is interesting to me, since I work in a doctor’s office and have to be mindful of that environment when selecting my fragrances. I’m curious about how the “fantasy note” of fig emerges from the coconut powder element, as I am not yet very familiar with fig as a note in perfumery.

In reading Michelyn’s 2022 interview with Aurelien, what resonated with me was his description of his approach in Matiere Premiere as a meeting of minimalism and functionalism with raw elements, “an immense dosage of one natural raw material in a minimalist formula and esthetic” – I love the idea of a full olfactory exploration of one element to really understand the breadth and depth of its facets.

    I am in MA.

Maitere Premiere Vanilla powder Extrait De Parfum is a beautiful and compliment getter perfume i will recommend everyone. Guichard’s quote “Not everyone can relate to a fragrance”

  • foreverscents says:

Steven commented on the smooth and creamy aspect of Vanilla Powder Extrait. He also said that he gets an almost fig note from the fragrance. I liked that Steven said this is a signature-worthy scent. It’s a linear fragrance that you don’t want to change. This corresponds to what Aurélian Guichard said in his introduction about imagining a dark vanilla bean painted white. I read the interview with Mr. Guichard and I liked this quote: “Raw materials are so complex and variable depending on the origins, the terrain, the climate, the farming, the way they are extracted….Raw materials are, for me, as a perfumer, the colors I use to create emotions.”
    I live in the USA.

  • I’ve seen this one pop up here and there but never tried it. Sounds like a nice vanilla with other interesting notes.
    Enjoyed the review

  • “The tonka bean is first ground to powder, before being transformed into an absolute. I use it as a natural powder ingredient. It brings a voluptuous facet to Vanilla Powder and intensifies its character.”
    Aurélien Guichard

Matière Premiere Neroli Oranger is zesty and luminous , full of energy fragrance, also made by the talented Aurelien Guichard , I was gifted a mini , I believe it’s 8ml . Compared to Neroli Oranger, Vanilla Powder Extrait is way more complex, way deeper, I like sandalwood and coconut sophisticated fragrances with a lot of depth , and tonka bean vanilic drydown.
I read again the interview with Aurelien Guichard , and my quote is :

“Two things still strike me today as important takeaways from this period. First, the creative conviction and courage it took, for established brands and marketing directors to let a young trainee perfumer create his first perfumes alone, under no Master Perfumer’s guidance and supervision. This is rare.”

Exceptional work ethic by the rather young perfumer . Creating almost everything , from creation of the scent, to all that comes after, even harvesting some of Matiere Premiere ingredients on his own .
    Thanks the draw

  • I do praise Aurélien Guichard desire to showcase traditional , natural raw ingredients of the highest quality , like incense from Somalia, labdanum from Andalucia, coffee from Venezuela, benzoin from Laos , Palo Santo from Ecuador and Madagascan Vanilla. As a small business owner myself, I own now two bakeries i can not only relate to Aurélien Guichard , all bright future is ahead of him , I’m sure.

“Your favorite restaurants in NYC, London and Paris?
    Aurélien Guichard:
In NYC: Felix in Soho- fun! In Paris, I love Brasserie Lipp, a Parisian classic.”

The quote we had to post, I love when Michelyn is asking such culinary related questions .
Steven take on Vanilla Powder Extrait made me think of a tropical island trip , making Moist Vanilla and Coconut Cake, and enjoying my time.
I have the pleasure of owning original Encens Suave, it smells like I’m eating Tiramisù , with burning incense cons next to me. There are definitely unannounced notes in the fragrance, saffron, patchouli, or rose maybe, and there’s a crunchy feeling too.
Appreciate Michelyn first interview with Aurélien Guichard , her reaching out again to him about the Extrait line, Steven review and the giveaway campaign

  • I enjoy wearing sophisticated vanilla fragrances all year round , Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder Extrait is just perfect .The sense of comfort, higher concentration, vanilla from Madagascar and modern white powders hues Aurelien Guichard spoke about are all aspects of the fragrance i do appreciate.
I’d love to try the overload of premium quality Madagascan vanilla, next to the beautiful coconut and tonka bean in Vanilla Powder Extrait.
I do want my comment to count twice, so
“Do you have hobbies or passions outside of perfumery?
Aurélien Guichard: I play Field Hockey for Paris and the French National team. I also love kite Surfing and Surfing.
    ……
If you weren’t a perfumer, you would be…?
Aurélien Guichard: A professional field hockey player, or a painter!”
Wow , one my biggest childhood dream was to play in NHL , and I still surf , if the weather is nice.
Aurelien Guichard i know for Gucci Intense Oud. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with Matiere Premiere fragrances.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

  • From Matiere Premiere i only have experience with Oud Seven , non linear fragrance , the whole metamorphosis animalic oud , to comforting resins , vetiver and tobacco is both aggressive, and appealing at the same time. I own a bottle. The best quote from the interview with Aurélien Guichard:

“I created a first version of Radical Rose and presented it to the press just before the first COVID lockdown. Only a week later, we were all confined, and I was lucky to stay during 6 months in my atelier in Grasse. I felt the fragrance was not good enough. I called my partners and told them I had to start all over again! I worked night and day during 6 months, including during the month of May, the month of the Rose Centifolia harvest, weighing and compounding every try myself. I came up with the final version at the end of the lockdown, it was on a Friday. On the following Monday, I called the press I saw 6 months earlier, to explain. They were kind and understanding – everyone was so happy to be free again!”

Aurélien Guichard approach to life is in a way similar to mine, he’s attracted by the diner things in life , food, styling, everything in Michelyn interview points out to one refined and elegant character.
I’m perfectionist like him , that’s why I was so impressed how he thought original line was already good, but with Vanilla Powder Extrait he could amp up the concentration of Vanilla Absolute and by adding Tonka Bean Absolute he was looking for something else , close to perfection vanilla fragrance, I’m a tailor, but just like Aurélien Guichard I believe I’m an artist too.
Vanilla Powder Extrait i like because of the different approach to vanilla and the whole transformation , from a bit aggressive darker profile , to the appealing ambery , almost cozy atmosphere of dark coffee and After Eight mint chocolate treats . Classy fragrance i’d pair with a Grey Three Piece Suit
Thank you Nicoleta, Michelyn, Matiere Premiere, Aurélien Guichard

  • I greatly enjoyed Aurélien Guichard sharing his experience and ideas behind Matière Premiere new Extrait line , Steven YouTube video and reading once more Michelyn recent interview with the founder and perfumer of the brand.
What I’d like to say is I’m more than thrilled about Vanilla Powder Extrait, love the amped up vanilla and the added tonka bean, the coconut and the way Steven perceived figs.
From the previous interview , I was also impressed by how Aurelien Guichard thought Radical Rose was not good enough, and worked very hard to perfect the fragrance
“I created a first version of Radical Rose and presented it to the press just before the first COVID lockdown….. I felt the fragrance was not good enough. I called my partners and told them I had to start all over again! I worked night and day during 6 months, including during the month of May, the month of the Rose Centifolia harvest, weighing and compounding every try myself. • Matiere Premiere perfumes are amazing, you guys have to try falcon leather by this house, it knocks out Ombre Leather by Tom Ford by a mile.

  • From the review, I liked h the e description of fig and it being a note that has some coconut elements to it. It was something new I learned. And from the intro, I was excited about the added intensity of vanilla. I love the original so am excited about this release.

  • Julie Huggins says:

I absolutely loved Steven’s review of MATIERE PREMIERE Vanilla Powder Extrait. The way he described the creamy vanilla and soft powdery notes made me want to try it right away! Aurélien Guichard’s introduction was so inspiring too, I enjoyed hearing his passion and vision for creating such a comforting, elegant scent. It made me even more excited to experience the fragrance for myself.
