Providence Perfume Co was created by Charna Ethier, whose award-winning perfumes are 100% natural. Charna Ethier sources organic ingredients whenever possible, and uses materials from around the globe. These costly and rare botanical aromatics are combined with hand-crafted tinctures and aromatics, then blended in a pure alcohol.

Laren Stover and Paul Himmelein wrote The Bohemian Manifesto to describe the splendorous world of bohemians and their counterculture. One tongue-in-cheek section lovingly describes the different types of bohemians one might encounter. Using this as a guide, it seems Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème might just have been created for the Nouveau Bohemian*—a moneyed bohemian, perhaps a bit of a dilettante, with a love of extravagance and the finer things.

Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème suggests a lavishly decorated room full of crushed velvet, peacock feathers, and melting candles. Lampshades are draped with opulent scarves to mute the light, and the easel in the corner shows the comely lines of a shapely nude. Everywhere, there are stacks of books.  Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème smells of several types of rose that have been blended with opulent saffron. Its base of dark patchouli and oud deliver a softly fragrant feel of romantic hauteur.

The Nouveau Bohemian wearing Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème might leave the book-filled room to stalk dramatically through the rest of the manor house—a bottle of champagne in one hand, cut crystal champagne flute in the other, and rose petals scattered across the floor. Windows thrown open to the night cause candles on every surface to flicker gently in the breeze. The scent of wax dripping onto dusty wood floors gently mingles with the smell of rose petals as they are lightly crushed under bare feet.

Notes: rich aged patchouli, fir, red tea, rare white rose essence, agarwood, saffron, Turkish rose and artisan rose petal infusion.

In Charna Ethier’s Profile In American Perfumery she wrote, “I adore what I do, and love that I can express myself and my vision through scent. I work independently to translate a memory, place or emotion into a scented snapshot. My most classically American scent is Rose Bohème. A nod to my bohemian parents, and a childhood filled with patchouli tamed with rich red rose and a touch of jammy green fir.*”-Michelyn Camen Editor-in-Chief

  • Dalya created a, well, very rosy picture of Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème in her imaginative story of the Nouveau Bohemian walking through his book filled house. Rose, oud, saffron, patchouli – sounds perfect to me. It’s great that Providence Perfume Co perfumes are mostly natural and organic. Unfortunately I have not tried anything by this brand, yet. Thanks for the review and draw. Writing from the USA.

  • Turkish rose, patchouli, saffron, I need the romance of this right now and I have an art and book filled space to wear it in. I do not have a favorite from Providence Perfume Co. I live in Virginia, USA

  • Courtenay COURIER says:

This review painted a very vivid picture that I would love to experience all my own. I don’t yet have a favourite Providence Perfume Co fragrance. Canada.

  • Sounds divine! Being in Australia I have never heard of Providence Perfume Co and being a lover of rose fragrances this would certainly be on my list to try.

  • Susan Meeker-Lowry says:

If I don’t win it, I’m going to have to buy some! I want to experience that manor house, the opulence, the fragrances the writer conjures. As a very amateur perfumer, successfully communicating such a place, the ambiance, the colors – with scent what it’s all about. I have purchased a couple of Charna Ethier’s perfumes – several years ago, and most recently I’ve purchased perfume ingredients.. Always excellent!

  • Julesinrose says:

I am curious about that book! I know Charna Ethier’s perfumes are wonderful. My favorite is Provanilla but I haven’t tried enough. I’m sure I’d love this one as I am a big rose loser. And a bohemian, lol! In Maine, USA

  • Dubaiscents says:

This sounds like my kind of rose scent! I love rose and patchouli combos and how Dalya uses the image of roses and champagne and books makes it seem so romantic. I would love to try this. Thank you! US.

  • Rose Boheme looks like a delight to the senses! I am really curious about that combination of rich aged patchoul and rare white rose essence. Thank you.

  • Queen Cupcake says:

I love rose fragrances, and rose + patchouli it is a winner for me. Plus, it is a 100% natural fragrance, which I appreciate more and more. The Providence Perfume Co. is to be commended for that! I live in the USA.

  • The images described by Dalya are beautiful and calming. We all need to experience this feeling. Peacock feathers are part of my decorative items also. Thanks for another great draw! Mich USA

  • Never explored any Providence Perfume Co fragrance before, in the search for my rose scent maybe this all natural accord is the one for me if i’m lucky. From Romania with love!

  • Claumarchini says:

I am not familiar with Providence Perfume Co, but Rose Bohème definitely seems like a beautiful, rich, alluring and mesmerising fragrance.
I love how Dalya has described the fragrance, I could see myself walking around the manor house with a glass of champagne, smelling the rose petals, the old books, the melting candles…very intriguing indeed, I would love to be the lucky winner! Greetings from Italy

  • KMBfragrance says:

The addition of green fir to a rose/patchouli combo sounds intriguing. I’ve also heard great things about Providence Prefumery, so I’d love the opportunity to try one of their offerings. I live in Missouri USA.

  • wandering_nose says:

Dalya depicts the fragrance as an epitome of efortless and somewhat hedonistic sophistication, therefore making it as desirable as spending a night in the said manor house would be… Amazing! I love the deep, sultry notes used and would be delighted to try Rose Bohème. I do not have a favorite Providence fragrance as of yet but would love to try those all-natural perfumes. Commenting from the Republic of Ireland, EU

  • Dayla’s review has such great imagery. Rose Boheme is the fragrance that put Providence Perfume Co on my radar, but I haven’t tried it. I’ve only tried Divine (it’s divine) and Drunk on the Moon (fantastic name). I live in the US. Thanks!!

  • This piece read like something out of a dream. I could almost smell the scattered rose petals and melting candles from my screen. And it’s so true that scarves draped over lampshades give such a warm ambience but please don’t try this at home, it’s a fire hazard! The perfume sounds more-ish and decadent. White rose? Red tea! Sign me up! Since I live in the EU (Greece), I have not had the chance to try any Providence Perfumes, but I would love to. Thanks for the draw! Cheers.

  • GennyLeigh says:

I’m not very familiar with natural perfumes but Rose Boheme sounds lovely. Patchouli and rose is such a classic combination and I’m sure Providence Perfume Co sources the finest materials. The addition of saffron and fir seem to add depth. I’ve not tried any Providence Perfume Co fragrances before. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • What struck me about this review are the raw materials being used. I would like to get my nose on some of this. I haven’t tried any of PPC’s perfume, but I noticed that their site carries a complete discovery set. Thanks for the draw. I am in Canada.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I really appreciated the picture of lavishness that Dalya painted, as a setting of what the fragrance should make us envision. But as a Rose lover, this is what really stood out for me: “Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème smells of SEVERAL TYPES OF ROSE (if you didn’t notice, she had me at ‘SEVERAL TYPES OF ROSE’) that have been blended with opulent saffron. Its base of dark patchouli and oud deliver a softly fragrant feel of romantic hauteur.”

I have never tried a Providence Perfume Co fragrance so, no favorite.

I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • Paeonnia says:

I appreciate how Dalya makes her review spatial, when she talks about the New bohemians dwelling. I haven’t tried any Providence Perfume Co fragrances yet.
    I’m in Slovenia, EU

  • Rose, saffron, and patchouli are all favorite notes of mine, so this sounds up my alley. But I don’t have a favorite Providence Perfume Co frag…yet. Thanks, as always, for the draw! I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

  • Dalya’s review was truly charming, classy and slightly melancholy. The saffron sprinkled, woody melange of roses, evoking an old mansion full of valuable books and the finest layer of dust, in what I imagine to be a crepuscular setting filtering through burgundy colored curtains, is truly evocative.
I have never tried this house before.
    Europe.

  • After having read from this review, I certainly want to try this fragrance. I’m still pretty new to being a fragrance collector and I’ve heard that rose in combination with oud and saffron is a popular, and can be an enjoyable, combination which I haven’t experienced yet. I think that this fragrance would be a good introduction, for me, to this combination of notes and a good introduction to this fragrance house. I’ve certainly heard of the Providence Perfume Co., and have been wanting to try all of Charna Ethier’s releases, but haven’t been able to do that yet. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • What appeals to me is description of the scent using words to describe the environment (Bohemian vibes of a room with velvet, books and roses); the notes (fir and red tea with saffron and roses!); as well as Providence Perfume Co’s quest for organic ingredients.

I don’t have any exposure to Providence Perfume Co fragrance yet, but I have a feeling that I’d love Basil & Bartlett, Heart of Darkness, Rose Bohème, and Moss Gown — as well as their perfumed tea!

    I’m based in Thailand!

  • The notes list and a this being a natural perfume sound like this will be a beautiful creation- I love the concept of the Nouveau Bohemian. Good luck to all. Commenting from NY.

  • Michael Prince says:

What appeals to me about Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème based on Dalya’s review is how the company uses 100 percent all natural and organic ingredients when possible. I loved Dalya’s descriptive review of this beautiful yet traditional Rose, Oud, and Saffron combination. I haven’t tried anything from Providence Perfume Co, so I don’t have a favorite. I am from the USA.

  • I adore this little bottle and presentation – for some reason, to me the smaller and more luxurious the scent and bottle makes the scent seem that much more sacred and cherished. Thank you Dalya, as someone who also has bohemian parents. I have not sampled this house as of yet.
    From Canada.

  • This sounds beautiful and comforting to me. I don’t believe I’ve tried anything from Providence Perfume Co before. I see from their site that they also offer perfumery materials for sale, which is intriguing. (USA)

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the great review Dalya. Thanks also to Michelyn for the little blurb on the fragrance.

I’m a huge fan of the rose saffron oud combos and the two main things that stand out to me with this scent are the use of green fir and red tea. The fact that this is an all natural fragrance is also very neat.

I love how this review has captured the essence of what I imagine to be a quintessential Bohemian.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I loved Dalya’s comments about the Bohemian Manifesto and their counter culture. But this fragrance is Nouveau Bohemia. I love this fragrance but only have a sample. I would love a bottle. Rose Boheme is the best rose Patchouli out there. Thank you for the chance. USA

  • Nom de Guerre says:

The smell of old books and melting candles is right up my alley. Greeting from the EU and thanks for the review.

  • I’ve been thinking I need more unapologetically floral scents in my wardrobe and this one sounds divine and dramatic! I haven’t tried any scents by Providence yet, but I’d be eager to start with this one.

    From Canada

  • Dalya’s review makes me guessing how this natural fragrance would be. I love this romantic rose! Providence Perfume Co Rose Bohème has a vintage feeling – not like vintage as in perfume, but vintage as in authentic photographs. The final word by Michelyn is very inspiring. The underlying accord smells like natural pressed flowers that you’ve kept in memory of someone. I love patchouli in any direction. For me, these notes are blended together to create an atmosphere of charm and nostalgia! Regards from BiH

  • constancesuze says:

I love PPCo’s work and was lucky enough to have the chance to visit the shop at one point. I think Cocoa Tuberose may have been my favorite, but I love a good patchouli. That photo of the dilapidated but still luxurious room is beautiful. And now I want to read The Bohemian Manifesto 😉
