Boy, boy, crazy boy
Get cool, boy
Got a rocket
In your pocket
Keep coolly cool, boy

Boy, boy, crazy boy
Stay loose, boy
Breeze it, buzz it
Easy does it
Turn off the juice, boy

Just play it cool, boy

Here in Massachusetts, we mark the advent of summer with the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Folks retreat to places like Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, the North Shore or New Hampshire (sometimes Block Island, if they can afford it): rent a house, a timeshare, nestle into a bed-and-breakfast, go camping. The beaches are full-to-overflowing everywhere; there are tailgate parties, clambakes, lots of grilling outdoors. Most often, temperatures soar – and herald an ongoing need to Play It Cool. To that end, I’m going to recommend to you all the new limited-edition eau de cologne from Providence Perfume Co. – Jadeite.

Essentially, there are two kinds of jade: nephrite, the less costly mineral, and jadeite – a more translucent, valuable and harder metamorphic stone. That artisanal perfumer Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume Co. has chosen the more precious gemstone for Providence Perfume Co. Jadeite as inspiration should come as no surprise. Charna cuts no corners when it comes to quality, and all of her fragrances reflect this, as she uncompromisingly utilizes unusual and expensive materials in her compositions. It is her custom to celebrate late spring and summer with the limited release of a new eau de cologne (or eau de parfum: last year’s offering was the springlike Irisqué) for the season (Basil & Bartlett, Branch & Vine).

Providence Perfume Co. Jadeite revolves around green tea and bergamot laced with a softly herbal water mint. Water mint, by the way – is not as sharply potent as peppermint; it smells like a cross between gentle spearmint and the herb hyssop. It is remarkably refreshing, sweetened with a very tender linden blossom accord heart note. Jadeite’s base is very delicate: wisps of frankincense entwine with a silvery ambrette, the commingling of the sacred with vegetal musk’s discreet loveliness. As befits a true eau de cologne, its aromatics concentration is only 3-5% – which is why we reapply them liberally and more frequently. Envision yourself under an early summer linden, the fuzzy pom-poms laden with honeyed pollen and aroma, sipping the iciest green tea imaginable with a good jolt of citrus squeeze – and you’ve caught the jist of Providence Perfume Co. Jadeite.

It’s an easy, breezy summer adjuvant and best served chilled…

Notes: bergamot, water mint, green tea, linden blossom accord, frankincense, musk ambrette

Sample provided by the perfumer – many thanks! It’s delicious. My nose is my own…

  • Ahh this sounds so cooling for New England summers! I’m intrigued by the water mint. I’m not familiar with it but the idea of a softer spearmint is super appealing. I live in one of those places mentioned that should be attracting a good amount of tourists this upcoming weekend and we are so ready for the season to start. USA

  • I love the sexiness of Linden, and that paired with musk, frankincense , and ambrette makes this one that I would probably blind buy. The tea and mind added leads me to believe that this one would be a great go to for those of us who have a hard time finding something suitable for the warmer months. I’m in the Us and appreciate this opportunity to try this fantastic sounding scent.

  • Ida!! ❤️❤️❤️ How lovely! I can picture myself on these New England beaches. ❤️ Jadeite sounds lovely and so perfect for the weather ahead! Frankincense and green tea really draw me to this fragrance! I need to read more about Providence Perfume! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! ❤️ USA

  • This fresh fragrance would be great for the upcoming summer! I love tea scents and the mix with citrus and mint sounds great! I am from CA, USA.

Last week the temperature reached 90 degrees F in Western Massachusetts. I can see myself turning to Jadeite to stay cool all summer long. The green tea and water mint notes sound very refreshing.

  • Providence Perfume Co. Jadeite seems to be a perfect perfume for summer, light and refreshing. Ida described it very well. No experience with this brand, yet. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • I have never read about jadeite before this review, but looks so interesting and appealing that I want to try this fragrance so bad.
“n easy, breezy summer adjuvant and best served chilled” This line totally bought me.

I love linden blossoms. The only fragrances I’ve tried that feature them are Tauer’s Zeta and Jo Malone French Lime Blossom. It is the scent of summer; fresh and crisp. The addition of the mint, green tea and ambrette amp up the green cooling aspects. I can see why Charna named this Jadeite. MD, USA.

  • Easy and breezy! Sounds perfect as the heat begins to creep in. I also love the permission to keep spritzing on my scent, (I often love the top notes). I. Maryland.

  • Teresa Cs says:

Bergamot can totally take over a fragrance but it sounds like it is used beautifully here, with notes that compliment and balance. The base note of ambrette is o e of my favorites and seems a curious choice, but interesting!

  • Love tea scents and it all just sounds so cool and refreshing in this hot summer. I would definitely want to try this! MA,USA

  • This sounds so refreshing and uplifting! I have never owned a fragrance that had a spearmint type note in it. I’ve never tried anything from this perfume house before. This would be a lovely scent for summer!

This sounds fantastically refreshing. Every note in the fragrance seems geared to that goal., and the breakdown makes it sound delicious. Summer is approaching, and I need this on my skin.

I can enjoy natural perfumery a lot, and I’d like to become more familiar with this style of perfumery. I’d like to try the collected works of this company. The list of notes for this fragrance is very appealing to me. I’d like to see what the water mint is like. I’d like to see why jadeite is the type of jade to describe this fragrance. I live in the U.S.A.

What interests me about Providence Perfume Co. Jadeite is reading about Memorial Day in the New England area and all the great things to do as well as learning about this perfect warm weather offering from Providence Perfume Company. A refreshing citrus tea with that water mint note. I would love the opportunity to try this. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • sephrenia300 says:

Very nice review Ida! What strikes me about Providence Perfume Co. Jadeite is the inclusion of a note I had not heard of before – water mint. The idea of a softer more herbal mint variety that is reminiscent of hyssop and gentle spearmint, paired and tempered with tender florals and delicate wispy frankincense, sounds like a perfect summer fragrance focus. As someone who is not much for mint but loves green and herbal florals, this definitely sounds like a fragrance I need to try. I live in the US.

  • This review made me thirsty while I read it! :). Jadeite sounds like what I need here down in Southern Virginia today. I love tea fragrances in general, and the addition of “water mint” sounds so refreshing. I would love to try it. Thanks for the giveaway. In the USA.

  • What strikes me about Jadeite is the immediate journey that this Fragrance promises. All the hot summer days that bake your skin and give you a warm blanket of sunburned skin cooling under a shady umbrella. That unforgettable memory of warm East Coast beaches along with the aftermath, cooling calming and refreshing.

  • It’s finally getting really hot in my neck of the woods, and I could use a refreshing fragrance. Thank you for sharing a bit about water mint: I assumed it to be a bold, potent mint note, and its use here sounds lovely alongside linden blossom, a bit of citrus, and green tea. This fragrance sounds very easy to enjoy.

    I’m in the midwest, USA.

    Thanks for the review Ida.

I love how vernal, herbacious, fluid and refreshing this scent sounds – a perfect allegory of the transition of spring into the warmer days of summer.

Intersting to hear about water mint – I have to find out if I can plant some in my garden.

I need to get started on picking up more samples of Charna.

    Cheers from Wi, USA
