 If you are a reader of CaFleureBon you know how highly we regard the perfumes of Marc-Antoine Corticchiato of Parfum d’Empire. As the perfumer and founder he reinvents himself in each fragrance since the brand’s inception in 2003 and often explores cities, epochs or eras. Parfum d’Empire Yuzu Fou is another from the Classic Collection that I remember discovering and loving at AEDES in NYC (I believe it debuted in 2008) although I did not know the back story.  This multi faceted Yuzu is both sweet, tart and a little bitter and smells as energizing as high voltage vitamin C. I was able to discern mint which wasn’t used often in perfumery back then and earthy woody green notes (bamboo) and cedar.

 I reached out to Marc-Antoine Corticchiato about the inspiration for Parfum D’Empire Yuzu Fou:

“I was inspired by today’s Japan, with its electro music, manga, high-tech, neon lights, etc. There is also a contradiction between hyper urban Japan, avant-garde, and the strong presence of nature in the middle of the city. It is very inspiring. Yuzu, the citrus fruit, is very fizzy, fusing, for me it evokes this pulsating Japan. I wanted a sparkling, crackling perfume, a freshness like no other”. -Marc-Antoine Corticchiato

Notes include Japanese Yuzu, Bitter Orange, Mint and Kumquat, Lemon Verbena, Bamboo, Cedar; Neroli and White Musk.

    I love when perfumers get inspiration from music or things related to music, there’s so much artistry in both. Being a music producer I can appreciate it so much, receiving inspiration from the nightlife in Japan. I thoroughly enjoyed Michelyn’s introduction. Steven balanced it out with a descriptive review as usual. I own “Wazamba” and I love it, can’t wait to try more from this house.

    Many thanks for bringing thi new fresh fragance and mainly with the Yuzu accord, which is ideal for the hot summer time even when it is humid and rainy. I do witness that since in Costa Rica where I mainly live, it’s humid and hot 13 months a year ( LOL !! ) The Yuzu is delicious and energetic, since I tried the Issey Miyake fragances I started to love this accord which is incredibly long lasting.     Michelyn mentions Musc Tonkin which I have two bottles of and the original extrait one. Steven says Parfum D’Empire Yuzu Fou remains on your skin and not like many other citrus fragrances that disappear soon. Parfum D’Empire Yuzu Fou is inspired by Japan as the name should tell us. In fact, I came to know about Yuzu though another fragrance that was also inspired by Japan. My fav. from the brand is Cuir Ottoman. I am in US.

    The thought of a sparkling and crackling citrus scent sounds intriguing . Especially when it lasts longer than the average citrus scent as Steven said. It must be due to the white musk and cedar in the base. I’d love to get my nose on this one. Thanks for a chance with this giveaway .

    “High voltage vitamin C.” lol Awesome. Love some mint in my summer fragrances too. The voltage analogy really does fit nicely with Marc-Antoine’s urban Japanese inspiration. Nice and tart. Sounds even better than the fragrance from J-Scent called Yuzu that has a remarkably realistic soda-flavour vibe. That’s why I had to giggle when Steven described the opening as “flavourful.” Very happy to hear that the longevity is there also. Definitely agree that Yuzu needs to be used more often in perfumery! Huge fan of Tabac Tabou from the brand. Canada.

    Love this review. This fragrance sounds so fantastic and just in time for summer. I like the phrasing of “as energizing as high voltage vitamin C.” That’s what I want for my new signature scent for summer! Steven was great as usual.     First of all, I love a yuzu scent! J-Scent makes a delicious yuzu that is one of my favorite bottles. But I love that this scent seems to be a very contemporary and cutting-edge take on yuzu. I would love to smell what a crackling and sparkling yuzu scent is like. I’m not familiar with Parfum d’Empire, but hopefully this will be my first introduction! I’m in NYC.

    Outside of wazamba and Le cri both which I own I don’t have as much experience with Parfum dEmpire as I would like. It’s not so easy to find in the USA. I love that it’s a unique Yuzu inspired by neon lights and Japan. I really appreciate the perfumer telling us what he had in mind.

    I never had a chance to try anything from Parfum d’ Empire yet, but Yuzu Fou sounds so good from the notes. I liked Michelyn’s Introduction and I also very enjoyed Steven’s review.     I love that Michelyn describes this as energizing as high voltage vitamin c. I love the note of yuzu. I do not own the original L’Eau D’Issey but do have the more smokey intense version and it’s one of my signiture scents. The yuzu is so fun and exciting.     I appreciate Michelyn’s introduction on Yuzu Fou. This perfume is inspired by Japan and using yuzu a citrus with a freshness like no other. As always Steven’s review are always detailed. Steven really seemed to really like yuzu in this fragrance. He was really enthusiatic about how more perfumers need to use more yuzu in their fragrances. Yuzu Fou sounds like a unique citrus scent that is worth sampling because it gives sonething diffetent from other citrus fragrances.

I’m all about citrus honestly all year long and would love a long lasting one, and I’ve never tried yuzu. I feel like trying this fragrance would make me feel like a capybara in a yuzu bath; anyone else love watching those videos? I’ve never tried anything by this house but now I’m curious.

    As a guy struggling to find a Summer frag that really suits me, and as a guy who’s really into Japanese culture and fashion (and manga), I’m really really surprised I never heard of this before!     Steven is YouTube’s finest reviewer; always delivers quality reviews with a positive energy, and a big smile.
    This is actually incredible, but I’m wearing TODAY Azemour Les Orangers from this amazing brand.
    I purchased a sample set recently after Steven’s review of Eau de Gloire, and I’M IN LOVE!
    I ordered 5 samples(Azemour les Orangers, Eau de Gloire, Ambre Russe, Cuir Ottoman and Wazamba), and they all smell refined, original and of great quality! I can’t wait to get my hands on Yuzu Fou, as it sounds great, too!
    As it’s getting ready hot, I’m thinking about purchasing one of the fresh ones, but I really can’t decide, as I like both a lot!

    I loved reading about the inspiration for the scent. the Japanese combination of hyper urban with nature. Steven is right about Yuzu needing to be highlighted more. A long-lasting citrus is so rare. I have read about Parfum d’Empire, but never gotten to try any of their products. I’d love to get my hands on Yuzu Fou. I am in the US.

    Great review Steven, very descriptive as usual and a very good introduction of Michelyn! I haven´t tried Yuzu Fou but I think that Marc-Antoine Corticchiato of Parfum d’Empire is a genius beyond words. His work about corsican heritage is amazing and Mal-Aimé is a master-piece with the use of inula and nettle. I am a yuzu lover (in kitchen and perfumery: Mme. Nicolai did a great job with this tart fruit too) and Mr. Corticchiato explains to Michelyn that he wanted to translate the pulsating Japan with the “crazy” yuzu into a sparkling and superfresh perfume. I strongly agree with Steven this citrus should be much more often in perfumery with its great personality and , different to other citrus scent, here thanks to Mr. Corticchiato´s expertise is a very long lasting beautiful fragrance.     I remember how I used to chase yuzu fragrances after, first, I fell in love with L’Eau d’Issey, and most importantly, I went to a Japanese restaurant and they had these amazing summer dishes with yuzu. I found some pretty nice yuzu fragrances but never found THE yuzu fragrance that would be artistic yet close to all these yuzu related events in my life that got me fascinated by this fruit. I started making yuzu syrup and making soft drinks out of it and it caught my eye you talk about the fizziness of yuzu. I like the neon aesthetic of Japan too, it reminds me of the 80’s neon and neo-noir and that caught my attention too. Je suis francophone également et comme je suis fou du yuzu, j’ai très hâte d’essayer Yuzu Fou!

    it’s always great to read what insired the perfurmer for the perfume – such as the various images of Japan for Yuzu Fou.
    As Steven mentioned, yuzu should be used more often. It sounds quite intriguing that the citrus accord lasts such a long time. I’d love to try it – it would be the first one from Parfum d’Empire for me.

    What a cute name! I agree with Steven that yuzu should totally be used more often; it has a lot of character. I like Michelyn’s comparison of the perfume to Vitamin C. Sometimes I find it hard to choose a scent for the work day when I am fresh out of bed, but this one sounds like it would energizing and help me wake up. I am from New England, USA.

    Once again Michelyn’s interview extracts really fill in the backstory to the fragrance and as always Steven’s contribution gives us more information on the actual physical product than any other video reviewer. It’s a tie for making me want the fragrance though! I love the idea of a tart, almost bitter scent, my mouth is watering at the thought of it! I’ve tried a few different yuzus, my collection is full of citrus, and too many houses try to sweeten the sharpness like lemonade. That has its place but sometimes you want the full punch to the face citrus blast and it sounds like Yuzu Fou has it in spades!

    I do not have a Parfum d’Empire fragrance bottle yet, but I have tried Musc Tonkin’ which is on my to-buy list this year! It’s an incredible sexy fragrance that I discovered here on CaFleureBon!

    Yuzu Fou sounds just as incredible from Steven’s review. I love his dedicated reviews, where he goes a bit deeper into the notes and the experience.
    I was already sold after Michelyn introduction, but Steven’s review solidified my decision that Yuzu Fou has to be on my sample list!

    I love yuzu centric fragrances. It provides such a sparkling uplifting facet to compositions. Sweet, tart and energizing as a high voltage Vitamin C is a great description.     Michelyn’s introduction and especially the quote by the perfumer behind Parfum D’Empire Yuzu Fou highlight the sharpness and energetic nature of yuzu and the current Japanese culture, which has elements of very high energy, overworked individuals and also traditional Japanese culture of zen, wabi-sabi and elegance in everything. Steven’s video highlights how this citrusy perfume is ideal for summer. I haven’t tried anything by this brand, yet.     I love Antoine’s work! Parfums d’Empire, Roberto Greco … the list is long! Yuzu is indeed sparingly used in fragrances as Steven pointed out and should be used more in perfumery. I love the note of yuzu combined with mint and verbena. Patricia also has a winner with Eau de Yuzu. To have all this combined in an edp with 6-8 hours of longevity is a must have for me. Michelin mentions the high voltage of vitamin C, well, that evokes the sparkling effervescent experience that yuzu brings. Would love for you to send this one to Belgium!

    i love the way Michelyn speaks about MA Corticchiato, more specific, about the way he reinvents himself with every new fragrance – i think he is both talented aaaand lucky to be able to do that as a day job 🙂
    Steven points out that yuzu is sort of overlooked by perfumers in citrus fragrances, and should be used more than it is – that was an interesting thing to find out. loved the way he praised the longevity of the fragrance – hey, Steven , it is Fou after all 🙂

    I liked Michelyn’s Introduction and especially how she explained the inspirational idea of Yuzu Fou. The idea of Corticchiato to express today’s Japan is fantastic. As Steven said, when I hear Yuzu’s Note, I directly remember Issey Miyake, but it is time to smell something new based on Japanese Yuzu. Therefore, I think Yuzu Fou is a lovely, uplifting, gorgeous, unusual, and unique fragrance. Yuzu Fou Notes move a lot and puts you through a heap of confused feelings. It’s a real adventure perfume! A lovely unusual mixture of citrusy smells: sweet, bitter as Michelyn said. I love the cedar and bamboo, they give such a clean openness, and the mint is so uplifting for me. I hope to try it to be my first experience with the Parfum d’Empire scent. Out of the three citrus-centered fragrances from Parfum d´Empire (“Azemour Les Orangers”, “Iskander” and “Yuzu Fou”), I find “Yuzu Fou” the most puzzling one. Lovely greeting from Sarajevo 🙂

    I loved how Michelyn described this yuzu as being both tart, sweet and bitter (which seems to capture the fruit itself wonderfully), and also Steven’s enthusiasm regarding how yuzu should be used more in perfumery.     Yuzu Fou fresh citruses, mint and woods characteristics are appealing to me. It was also nice to read when Michelyn discovered Parfum d’Empire, and how Marc-Antoine Corticchiato was inspired by Japan street culture . Judging by Michelyn and Steven enthusiasm, he accomplished exactly what he was looking for.
    I do own Ambre Russe, and I sampled Eau de Gloire, Saluté and Aziyadé . Aziyadé i will buy for the Fall/Winter

    I love getting acquainted with Parfum d’Empire fragrances, which have been added to my list to try.
    I loved to read Michelyn’s two–sentences straight-to-the-point review of Yuzu Fou and the creator’s inspiration. I have never been to Japan, but I very much adore electronic music and have been mesmerized many times by the Japanese cities in news or documentaries.
    In summer, I love multifaceted invigorating citrus fragrances that last at least a couple of hours, preferably longer. I also have a weak spot for mint notes; I own more than one citrus fragrance that encompasses a minty feel.
    I have been a faithful Steven’s subscriber for many years since I love watching his comprehensive, entertaining, and well-structured reviews. In Yuzu Fou’s review, I was drawn to Steven’s review of the evolution and structure of the fragrance. I agree that yuzu note with its rich personality should be used more often in citrus fragrances. Steven wonderfully describes the yuzu note as tart, bright, flavorable, musky, and long-lasting.

Thanks to Steven also for his thorough and enthusiastic review, that definitely sparked my interest. Before starting my trip into artistic perfumery, I didn’t even know what yuzu was, and now I really like it, because it is different from the usual (and abused) citruses, I agree with Steven that it should be used more!     The reason I discovered Parfum d’Empire was Emmanuelle Varron review of Immortelle Corse . I sampled it, and also AZIYADE .Out of the two , AZIYADE is a better fragrance for what I like , it smells like the Plum and Almonds Cardamom Tart , with fresh ginger i do on regular basis at my bakery, together with a little bit of incense. I had to buy a bottle .

    The sweeter variety of Japanese yuzu is called yuko , it’s the most expensive one , together with shishi yuzu aka lion yuzu.
    There are two mostly unknown facts about yuzu I’d like to point out
    ☆ It a hybrid, and originates from China, and not Japan
    ☆ The import of fresh yuzu fruits is banned in US, but you can buy locally grown fruits from farmers in New Jersey.
    After reading Michelyn take on the fragrance, and watching what Steven thinks, I imagined making Yuzu Cheesecake, with fresh mint leaves, drinking freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and enjoying time

    I enjoyed so much the introduction by Mychelin; was so nice that the perfumer inspired not only by traditional yuzu note from Japan, but also on the whole country culture.
    I am a culture lover myself and I enjoy so much japaneses culture and this fragrance looks and surely smells amazing.
    Steven, aka Redolesence, is one my favorite fragrance youtuber.

    From Michelyn’s introduction, I am glad to learn about another perfumer and enjoyed his inspiration from Japan. Looking forward to the sweet, tart, and bitter yuzu. From Steven’s review, this definitely sounds great for the summer, and love the surprisingly long-lasting yuzu with evolution to verbena/floral to cederwood. I live in CA, USA, and have not tried Parfum d’Empire.

    Great review as always! Steven is one of my first quality encounters with fragrance reviewers and I can take his recommendation by the word. I am a big fan of long lasting fragrances and this being a fresh citrus based one, also with the yuzu as a star, it is incredible. Also don t know what vibe the bamboo gives to this composition but i surely am drawn to it. Thank you for this chance! I lIVe in Romania, EU.

    Great job on the review Michelyn and Steven! Both I really liked the way they described the fragrance upon first smell. That first reaction is one that is always the most fun experience. The way the perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato describes the Yuzu in the fragrance sounds fantastic. “citrus fruit, is very fizzy, fusing, for me it evokes this pulsating Japan.” As someone who used to travel to Japan I really want to try this to see the experience for myself! I am in Texas, USA.

    I enjoyed Michelyn’s Introduction AND Steven’s review of Parfum d’Empire Yuzu Fou. I loved learning about Marc-Antoine Corticchiato of Parfum d’Empire. This sounds like a light airy and cirtus masterpiece to fresh, zesty, and tart citrus/yuzu with that aromatic mint along with a woody, cedar, and musky drydown. I haven’t tried anything from Parfum d’Empire, but I’ve heard of them. I’m from the USA.

    As someone quite interested in Japanese culture, the information provided in the introduction from the man who created this scent about the inspiration coming from contrasting elements found within a bustling city in that country was intriguing. Steven’s insight regarding the juxtaposition of the tart quality of the yuzu with the bamboo presence and verbena/floral/woody combination, along with his emphasis on the long lasting nature of the citrus fact here along with his praise for it’s versatility made this sound very appealing to me!     Yuzu is such a fantastic note. Usually brigs a smile and makes me happy when it is included, and is such a summery addition. I appreciate Michelyn giving some background information as to how the perfumer reinvents himself, especially since I am not super familiar with the house. And Steven’s review was informative – like when he gives more of his personal impressions in the fragrance description (aromatic and sparkling is definitely appealing to me).     I knew Parfum d’Empire name for many years, and after reading Ida’s lovely review of Saluté , I decided to sample the whole range. I asked my younger cousin , who’s getting back from Europe soon to ordere the set for me , €60 = 21 samples + €20 off on your next purchase from Parfum d’Empire website. Top deal if you ask me.
    That’s how I discovered the brand, thanks to Ida , and my cousin. Like Michelyn, I should’ve tried them earlier.
    Yuzu Fou is elegant hot weather fragrance, fresh, bitter, and a bit woody . To my nose there’s no sweetness, but longevity is quite nice
    Out of all Parfum d’Empire samples , Wazamba i like the most

    I can enjoy yuzu in fragrances very much, e.g. “L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme Intense” is one of my favorite fragrances. I appreciated learning more about this fragrance house and this fragrance seems very appealing to me. According to Steven’s review, this fragrance can cause a person to appreciate yuzu in fragrances possibly even more that the Miyake does. I haven’t tried anything yet from this company. I live in the U.S.A.

    Thanks for the nice review Steven. I enjoyed reading Michelyn’s introduction and read about the inspiration for this perfume. Japan is a fascinating country where old ancient traditions meet new modern influences and this is evident in the manga, neon lights and their great farming culture, especially with certain citruses. I also enjoyed learning that Fou meant ‘crazy’

    I like the combination of citrus and mint. It is interesting to note that the citrus is long lasting in this fragrance.

    I’m very intersted in trying this out. I haven’t had a chance to try this brand before.

    Parfums d’Empire i have heard, but I never had a chance to try them out.Michelyn is recommending their fragrances quite often, and i tried to find the sample set, but all US online stores i trust ,and buy from do carry the brand, but not the sample set.
    Yuzu Fou is appealing to me because of how effervescent , zesty and uplifting it smells, and the Japanese connection.The citruses, mint and musk are the notes I’m looking for the most.

    Fabulous introduction and review! What I enjoyed about Michelyn’s introduction is learning that the fragrance was inspired by modern Japan, with it’s intensity, neon lights, music, and avant-garde edginess. I think a citrus fragrance should be almost electric with intensity, so Michelyn’s introduction makes it sound quite interesting.

    What I enjoyed about Steven’s review of Parfum d’Empire Yuzu Fou is how he describes the yuzu itself as a very unique citrus ingredient, with tart brightness that is also a bit musky, that captures your attention and “doesn’t want to let go.” I also appreciate him pointing out that it is a very tenacious and long lasting citrus fragrance, which is certainly rare.

    I live in the US. I have tried ALL of Parfum d’Empire’s scents before as I have purchased the full house sample set. I have liked almost all of them and now own full bottles of two! My favorite by far is Cuir Ottoman.

    I’m familiar with the brand, and if I have to rate my favorite Parfum d’Empire fragrances:
    1. Ambre Russe
    2. Aziyade
    3. Wazamba
    I agree with Steven and Michelyn review , Yuzu Fou is refined,tart fragrance, suited for all occasions. Performance is really good
    Ambre Russe(2) and Aziyade i own , all three bottles are from the older, now discontinued 100ml presentation.
