Parfum d’Empire Eau de Gloire by Steven

 Parfum d’Empire is a line of fragrances composed by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato that I recommend to every niche boutique owner I meet. The name itself refers to empires, epochs, the concept of civilization, and perfumery.  Parfum d’Empire has one of the best assortments of perfumes, ranging from floral to citrus to amber to leather, all dynamic and well-done. Perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is a genius; who else could turn weeds into olfactive treasures and his Mal Aimé won numerous CaFleureBon Best of Scent awards  in 2021.

I remember exactly where I was when I discovered Parfums D’ Empire; it was a warm afternoon September 7, 2008 and I was shopping at AEDES Perfumery in New York City with a friend who bought Parfums d’ Empire Eau de Gloire, which is the first for the brand  (2003) and  in the Parfum D’Empire Collection L’Heritage de Course.

“Parfum d’Empire Eau De Gloire is the first perfume under my own brand and therefore had to express my personality. I naturally chose to evoke my Corsican roots. When I think of Corsica, where I still enjoy staying, I remember first off, the scent, the smell. Of course, it recalls the well-known statement from Napoleon: “I can smell with my eyes closed the Corsican scrubland”. So do I.” -Marc-Antoine Corticchiato  (excerpted from my interview in 2012)

    You can really appreciate the amount of effort that went into “Glorious Water”. I really enjoyed thinking about the note breakdown, which includes citrus along with the rosemary. The combination of oakmoss and incense in the base is also intriguing. I also want to compliment Steven on his suit today. Ha! Those colors look great and really jump out. I esp like how he describes Parfum d’Empire Eau de Gloire as earthy as well as earthy. I really feel like I can ‘picture that smell’, if you will. I also really appreciate Michelyn’s connection to her former interview, in which she makes connection to life experience/family/literature/music/personality in the development of perfumery.     I like how Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is expressing his personality in a fragrance! I wish I could do the same! Steven had mentioned that Parfums d’Empire Eau De Gloire has Glorious water notes also even though it is leaning on a fresh type of side at the same time it is very herbal. I have not tried Parfums d’Empire Eau De Gloire yet and am very very interested getting one!

    Per Michelyn’s note, I will have to check out the reviews of the other fragrances! Steven’s review was excellent and informative as always. I love when scents start out bright, fresh, and citrusy, and dry down into a darker tone. I’m excited about this one!

    I certainly didn’t know that Eau de Gloire was a personality statement on the part of Marc-Antoine. I think that Tabac Tabou was exceptionally done myself, but haven’t had the opportunity to sample the range. But dynamic is certainly a descriptor I would agree with to represent the line. Loving Steven’s attire and his use of “driven” and “purpose” to describe the maturity in the scent. Virtues that many adults would aspire to I would imagine. Big fan of the cylindrical bottle style too. Plus one for ergonomics!

    Eau de gloire sounds like a masterpiece. Great review from Steven. Love the detailed breakdown and how he describes it as mature but not dated and super classy.     I liked how Michelyn praised the perfumer as someone who can turn weeds into olfactory treasures. The quote in Michelyn’s introduction was helpful in understanding the inspiration behind Parfum d’Empire Eau De Gloire. I haven’t tried this brand, yet, but based on Michelyn’s introduction and Steven’s video review, I am very curious about Parfum d’Empire Eau De Gloire. Steven said it’s a very classy perfume and I like that. When Steven was talking about elegance and classy nature of Parfum d’Empire Eau De Gloire, it reminded me of Penhaligon’s Sartorial. Not sure if they are at all similar, but it seems Parfum d’Empire Eau De Gloire has similar vibes. Love Steven’s video reviews. I am a Redolessence subscriber. From USA.

    I really enjoyed both reviews as expected. Michelyn’s into really intrigued me by conveying the meaning of the brand name and the level of perfumery that Marc-Antoine Corticchiato creates. And just the sheer fact she remembers the exact date she first smelled this perfume says a lot. I have never tried a fragrance from this brand but looking to soon now!

    Steven’s review really helped me get an understanding of how beautiful and classy this fragrance smells. I am curious about the smoky incense trait combined with the oakmoss. It sounds like something I would really enjoy. Thanks!

I think it is testament to this house that Michelyn remember this house with such vivid and fond memories. Steven review was very informative as always.     I particularly liked Michelyn’s introduction and the quote of Marc-Antoine Corticchiato about his Corsica roots….really made me understood what to expect from this perfume.
    From Steven’s review I liked how he described the vibes of the perfume as “mature”, not in a senso of old, but in a sense of “knowing what is right and what is wrong”.

    It’s been some time since I have tested new perfumes of this house. I remember with great pleasure some of their fragrances… I think it was back in 2010 or 2011 when I was introduced to Parfum d’Empire. Such a great selection with a lot of versatility.     I love when a perfumer dedicates their first fragrant creation to their homeland, commemorating their roots. That’s a noble and honorable things to do for one’s place of origin. In her intro, Michelyn has drawn my attention to Parfum d’Empire as a brand. I greatly appreciate brands that have an array of various offerings ranging from light and citrusy to deep and ambery and leathery, and all of them well executed. The refined component coming from the citrusy factor as described by Steven sounds very enticing to me. I love the herbal aromatic mid as well as the oakmoss in the base, supported by smoky incense. Earthy, verdant and balsamic, evoking class, elegance and sophistication – I say every perfume lover should have Eau de Gloire in their fragrance wardrobe.     Parfum d’empire is by far my favorite niche brand. I remember that the first time I felt the fragrances was in the garden of my house on a beautiful summer night… I had bought the entire collection of samples and the emotion of feeling Azemour les Orangers and remembering my childhood running in the orange groves of my grandfather. I love how accurately Steven describes one of my favorite fragrances from this brand exactly the way I feel it, amazing! Lots of class, ingredients mixed to perfection! I completely agree with what Emannuelle says in the introduction: monsieur Corticchiatto is a genius!

    Great video review. I love Steven’s clear mastery of perfume terminology, e.g. noting a distinction between sweet and dry amber notes. I love it! And great written review. Short, but sweet. I love how she states, “who else could turn weeds into olfactive treasures?”, referring to Mal Aime. The only other Parfum d’Empire frag I’ve tried is, in fact, Male-Aime, and it is a treasure!     I loved Michelyn letting Marc-Antoine tell us the inspiration for the fragrance is his own words, I feel the inspiration behind a fragrance’s creation is sometimes very powerful in cultivating an appreciation for the fragrance itself.

    As for Steven, love his video as always, he tells us everything we need about the fragrance and he’s the only person I’ve seen show us the spray pattern from the bottle which is a very under-rated but very useful thing to know.

    Personally, I had never heard of this perfume house. So, naturally, I’m very interested in getting to know it.

    Citrus, incense, earthy? Steven made this sound very interesting, but really I have no idea how it smells. However, he says it’s classy and elegant. So, my interest is piqued.

    Add to that, Michelyn says the perfumer could turn “weeds into olfactive treasures” makes this s must try.

    Steven once again explained this fragrance in a detailed and careful way, from the sparkling citrusy top, to the deeper, darker incense and oakmoss bottom, all of it keeping an elegance and refined poise. It was also lovely to read Michelyn’s introduction with info about the perfumer and the house.

    It was interesting to read your brief introduction about Parfum d’Empire. It is always good to get a bit of information about the brand and the owner. I want to connect and support the brands that I buy from. Your praise has not gone unnoticed. I will certainly be trying Parfum d’Empire’s offerings!

    Steven really manages to convey how classy and sophisticated this scent it. It is like he has read my diary because I have a formal event coming up and want to wear a something that fits a classy suit and tie occassion.

    In all fairness, when Steven mentioned the Birch I was a little disappointed. I’m not the biggest fan of the strong ‘smokey’ style fragrance, but I was happy to hear that this is very light scent in the background. That is exactly where I prefer to have this note!

    There is no doubt Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is a genius and as Michelyn says is a perfumer who can turn weeds (corsican as inula, nettle immortelle,…) into olfactory treasures. Nice and passionate review from Steven. Love, as always with him, the breakdown of this scent that he thinks is mature (“knowing what is right and what is wrong”) but not dated and very classy. From the sparkling citrus opening to the herbal aromatic (love the anise) mid of the fragrance and the addition of the oakmoss in the base, supported by smoky incense and a touch of birch. Great!     I appreciate that Michelyn shared her personal story of an encounter with a first fragrance of Parfum d’Empire in 2008. Her praise and recognition of the brand and Perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato made me even more excited to watch Steven’s video review.

    Steven’s journalistic style of presenting fragrances is very appealing to me. I was intrigued by his description of a lively opening with a refined component without being refreshing. Also, chic and elegant dry down caught my attention. The vibe that Steven’s getting from Eau de Gloire in depicting with his words gave me impression that I do not own any similar fragrance, so I am more than excited to participate in this draw.
    I have to admit that I have not yet tried any of a Parfum d’Empire scent.

    Parfum D’Empire Eau de Gloire sounds very nice from the way that Steven reviewed it. Classy, elegant, citrusy, earthy, verdant, smoky, balsamic, versatile; all adjectives that I love and look for in a fragrance. Also, it’s hard to not be excited about a fragrance that features lavender, oakmoss, and incense. I’ve never tried any of the offerings from Parfum D’Empire but if Michelyn feels confidently enough to recommend them (not to mention garnering a couple “Best of 2021” nods) then I’m certain that they are fantastic.     Glorious Water definitely took a lot of effort. I found it very interesting to analyze the notes, which included citrus in addition to rosemary. A second intriguing element is the combination of oakmoss and incense in the base.
    My favorite part of his description of Parfum d’Empire Eau de Gloire is how he describes it as earthy as well as earthy.

    I do recommend the brand too , especially when someone is asking me for a high quality “Russian Leather theme” kind of fragrance, Ambre Russe is one of the best, no questions asked.
    If I have to rate my favorite Parfum d’Empire fragrances:
    1. Ambre Russe
    2. Aziyade
    3. Wazamba
    I agree with Steven’s review , Eau de Gloire is refined fragrance more suited for experienced with niche brands buyers. I also get the Bel Ami by Hermès comparison, but if I have to make one on my own, Eau de Gloire reminds me more of Fetish Pour Homme by Roja Dove .
    Ambre Russe(2) and Aziyade i own , all three bottles are from the older, now discontinued 100ml presentation.

    Such an interesting blend of notes. At first glance, I would expect this to be fresh and earthy. But those drydown notes sounds like it creates this wonderful mysterious and spicy blend. It sound so gorgeous!

    That’s how I discovered the brand, thanks to Ida , and my cousin. Like Michelyn, I should’ve tried them earlier, like she said nice catalog of different fragrances, all well done.
    Eau de Gloire is not a dated fragrance, smells a bit differently on me , with way more tobacco than leather , and there’s really pleasant natural fruity sweetness too.
    Out of all Parfum d’Empire samples , Wazamba i like the most

    I really enjoyed Michelyn’s Introduction and Steven’s review of Parfum d’Empire Eau de Gloire. I enjoyed learning how brilliant perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato curated the entire collection and where Michelyn was when she first discovered Parfums d’Empire. Steven goes into great detail describing a clean and classy citrus along with an aromatic Rosemary and Lavender, and a classy and refined Oakmoss. He didn’t use the word dated, but classy, sophisticated, mature, and refined were mentioned.     The more I hear about this brand the more it really piques my interest. I agree with Michelyn’s introductory statements in that there seems to be a wide-ranging variety of different fragrance profiles for different folks within in the house. The fact that Marc-Antoine’s work has clearly been lauded and awarded various times also sounds quite promising. Steven’s review on Eau De Gloire specifies it having a classy and elegant profile with excellent performance. I’d be pleased to be able to try fragrances from Parfum d’Empire very soon! I’m currently eyeing their discovery set offerings from their website.

    If Michelyn says Parfum d’Empire has one of the best assortments of perfumes, ranging from floral to citrus to amber to leather, all dynamic and well-done and perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is a genius – say no more, i’m sold :).
    as for Steven’s Eau de gloire review, if the word classy comes up in an experienced fragrance reviewer, it definitely makes me want to know it. I have only tried Azyiade from the house, and that one is ab fab.

    I’ve been wanting to try all of Parfum D’Empire’s fragrance releases, but I haven’t had a good enough chance yet. Steven’s review and Michelyn’s intro. helped me have a better understanding of a fragrance house which has been at the top of my list of fragrance houses to become very familiar with. I didn’t know that “Eau de Gloire” is their first release. I follow Cafleurebon on Instagram (@regismonkton). I live in the U.S.A.

    Eau de Gloire mossy, leather and incense like characteristics are appealing to me. It was nice to read there’s no overdose of leather in the fragrance. I wish I had the time for vacation for a trip to Corsica , I wonder what Napoleon saw and smell there.
    I do own Ambre Russe, and I think , Eau de Gloire, Saluté and Aziyadé are the 3 other fragrances from the house I’d like to try the most.

    I haven’t tried any Parfum d’Empire scents before, so I enjoyed this review of Eau de Gloire. Thanks for linking to your 2012 interview Michelyn; I also liked Corticchiato’s comments about the origin of this fragrance, the smell of Corsica, and an apt Napoleon qoute. Steven—your video reviews are always detailed and thoughtful. I liked your take on refined versus refreshing citrus, and I’m particularly drawn to the way you described this drydown—earthy and verdant, yet smoky and incense-colored, with some poised oakmoss.

    Parfums d’Empire i have heard, but I never had a chance to try their fragrances.
    Judging how Michelyn is recommending their fragrances left and right , i might find some hidden gems .I’ll look for a sample set.
    Eau de Gloire is appealing to me because of its creativity and uniqueness .The citruses, tobacco and incense are the notes I’m looking for the most

    I liked Emmanuelle Varron review of Immortelle Corse so much, that I sampled it, and also AZIYADE .Out of the two , AZIYADE is a better fragrance for what I like , it smells like the Plum and Almonds Cardamom Tart , with fresh ginger i do on regular basis at my bakery, together with a little bit of incense. I had to buy a bottle .

    I can confirm that, at least as far as AZIYADE and Corse
    First the freshness of citrus fruits , then the strength of aromatics and finally, the fragrance affirms its personality oak moss mixed with incense , Steven review showed me i can wear Eau de Gloire on dress up occasions, when I have to wear a suit.

    Fantastic review and introduction! What I enjoyed about Michelyn’s introduction is learning that Eau De Gloire is Parfum d’Empire’s first perfume under the brand, and that it therefore is only natural that it reflects the perfumer’s Corsican roots and the scrubland that so typifies the region. I love learning about the inspiration behind fragrances like this so I appreciate Michelyn’s insight.

    What I enjoyed about Steven’s review is how he describes the fragrance as lively and clean without being “refreshing”. That is certainly unusual and definitely more to my taste. I find a lot of citrus-forward fragrances a little overpowering and brash, while aromatic and herbal components still are lively and brightening, but without being too young and harsh. The combination of bergamot, rosemary, and lavender here with a base of incense sounds absolutely like the perfect type of bright summer fragrance for me, elegant and sophisticated.

    I have tried the ENTIRE Parfum d’Empire catalogue through their absolutely divine sample set program. I have enjoyed almost all of them but my absolute favorite is definitely Cuir Ottoman. I liked how you praised the perfumer as someone who can turn weeds into olfactory treasures. Frankly, I haven’t tried any fragrance from this brand yet. However, based on Michelyn’s review and Steven’s video, I become very curious about Parfum d’Empire Eau De Gloire. “it is a very classy perfume” Steven said and I like this kind of perfume. I liked the notes so much, and especially the Oakmoss, and Incense. I’m a big fan of the Redolessence channel. Thank you for introducing these beautiful fragrances 🙂 love you all!
