Ormonde Jayne White Gold Parfum (Geza Schoen and Linda Pilkington) ~ New Fragrance Review + Cool Luster Draw

Linda Pilkington and Geza Schoen

Ormonde Jayne’s Creative Director Linda Pilkington, in collaboration with perfumer Geza Schoen, has released the third and final fragrance in the Ormonde Jayne “Gold Trilogy” – White Gold. The first perfume in the series, Black Gold (2014) explores the fragrant colors of sandalwood. Rose Gold (2016) is a luxurious oriental featuring T’aif rose, orange blossom and oud.  White Gold Parfum captures the essence of the cool luster of the silvery precious metal  over the warmth of jasmine, freesia, orchids and vanilla.

The initial shimmer of White Gold Parfum  (it is not an EdP)  is sparked with the leafy and lively effervescence of pink peppered citrus and clary sage. This sparkling effect and the bright, invigorating qualities of mandarin and bergamot surprise me with an uncharacteristic longevity. Contrary to expectation, this alloy of translucent top notes stays vibrant and alive on my skin for three hours and more before the smooth and silken quality of the temperate floral heart begins a slow, insistent reveal.

Elements of clary sage remain in place as a bouquet of white flowers, jasmine, orchid and carnation, float over the sultry sweetness of freesia.  Once again the progression of the fragrance is quite slow.

White Gold dries down, poco a poco, over four more hours exposing balmy amber, moss and cedar wood colored with a transparent glaze of Madagascar vanilla, labdanum, white musk and orris. The sillage is at once polite and seductive.  After 24 hours I find that I am still luxuriating in the rich vanilla, orris and ambrette luster.

"Luster" (lustre) describes the manner in which light interacts with a surface. The word itself is derived from the Latin "lux", meaning "light", and is often used to illustrate the radiance, gloss and cool brilliance of the metallic precious metal we call white gold. Ormonde  Jayne White Gold Parfum, via the artistry of Geza Schoen, interprets this luminous, lustrous effect in scent, creating a cool, vitreous fragrance with a silken-white floral heart. White Gold is a sophisticated and complex perfume that can both refresh in summer and take the chill off a cold winter's day with its burnished silvery glow. Notes: Leaf green molecule, pink pepper, mandarin, bergamot, clary sage, jasmine absolute, carnation absolute, orris butter, orchid accord, freesia, Madagascar vanilla, ambrette absolute, cashmeran, white musk, amber, moss, tonka, labdanum, opoponax, vetiver and cedar wood.

Disclaimer:  Many thanks to Ormonde Jayne for my treasured bottle of White Gold.  My opinions are my own.

  • This perfume sounds absolutely amazing based of the review. I very love the notes. I have never had a chance to try any of Ormonde Jayne perfume. I would so glad If I would win. Thank you for the chance. I live in the EU.

  • Thomas Brewer says:

What I liked best about the review was that this was composed by Geza Schoen. Black Gold is fabulous and Nawab of Oudh is my all time favorite. Am looking forward to this one even if it takes awhile to get wider distribution. I am in California.

  • I have still not found a white floral that I can wear. I am a tomboy.
Really think that it might be the one as the notes have depth.

    In USA.

  • I love the idea that a perfume has luster. A visual translated into olfactory. White Gold sounds transcendent.

My favorite Ormonde Jayne is Ormonde Woman. I am in the US.

  • I have been dying to try this. It's so hard to find and they don't ship to where I live. Bless ormonde Jayne for offering it I love black gold and tiare. Ormonde woman is my favorite of all and osmanthus too. Geza Schoen is a genius The art !! The review !! Gail writes so beautifully about the silver glow. EU reader

  • It sounds gorgeous! I love white flowers, and it is so intriguing that the top notes last so long. The review’s choice of words is very evocative of the warmth yet coolness of white gold. My favorite Ormonde Jaynes are Ormonde Woman and Ta’if. Honestly, though, I love every one in the discovery set I have. Thanks for doing this!

  • The notes justify the name, with citrus that is often found in fragrances with name white in them. Then there are white flowers like Jasmin and white musk in it. Plus Geza is a talented perfumer so his interpretations rarely disappoint. My favorite Ormonde Jayne perfume is Ormonde Jayne Woman. Thanks for the generous draw. I am in US.

  • oldandsmelly says:

This sounds like three perfumes in one spray, Gail aptly described all three acts and I am very intrigued. My favorite Ormonde Jayne perfume so far has been Tolu. I live in the USA

  • Elizabeth T. says:

What a generous draw and lovely review! My favorite OJ to date is Woman, but this sounds fabulous! I love that the top notes stay around for hours, especially if they have a green leaf accord (I love anything green). And jasmine and orris… nothing better. Thanks for highlighting this one for us! I’m in the USA.

  • Richard Potter says:

I live in the USA and have yet to try Ormond Jayne. This one sounds intoxicating, based on this sensuous review. Thanks for the draw and Happy Holidays to everyone.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Amber, moss, and cedar with a resin-ey vanilla gauze sounds absolutely lovely! Also sounds very appropriate and in line with Ormonde Jayne. I believe this house is the one the uses Iso-E-Super the most but that it doesn’t bother me. Man and Woman are favorites, as are Orris Noir. Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

  • I very much intrigued by the slowness of the progression. I like this concept of “shimmer” in a fragrances and beautifully described by Gail. The notes sound beautiful, and I must say, you had me at carnation and the other white flowers. I’ve only tried Tolu by Ormande Jayne and I have a full bottle. I so hope to win this wonderful draw. Thank you so much. I live in the USA

  • I love your description of the drydown. It really sounds fabulous. I am not familiar with this fragrance house. I’d be ecstatic to win this scent!
    I live in the U.S. – Pennsylvania

  • Love Gail’s description of the bright opening! I need to get sample of this one! Haven’t tried Ormond Jayne fragrances.
Thank you for the chance! I live in Europe

  • I like the idea of “luster” being visualized in a perfume. The notes sound gorgeous. I am a big fan of Black Gold, so I imagine White Gold will be equally stunning.

    I live in the U.S.A.

  • I like the way you break down the development of this scent. And knowing Schöns signature I can precisely imagine this fragrance – I think. Montabaco/Intensivo is among my all-time favourites! I’d love to win to Germany.

  • It doesn’t sound bad: “cool, vitreous fragrance with a silken-white floral heart”.
I never tried an Ormonde Jayne fragrance before. By looking at her website, probably I would like the most “Ormonde Woman”. But it is hard to tell.
I live in the E.U. Thank you.

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Thanks for this great Review, this perfume sounds perfect for the coming chilly winter with its burnished silvery glow.

Thanks for the draw, I live in the EU!

  • Chocolate Marzipan says:

The notes and the name appeal to me! Sadly I have never tried an Ormond Jayne perfume but I have read nothing but wonderful things about this line. I reside in the USA.

  • Gvillecreative says:

I’m intrigued by Gail’s description of White Gold being both cooling in summer and warming in winter– I can’t think of any perfume in my collection that has both effects. Ormonde Jayne is one of my favorite houses; I own several bottles and Seraphim (the LTD) is one of my most favorite frags of ANY house. I haven’t tried any in the Gold series, but I can’t imagine that I wouldn’t love them. This house and Chanel have my highest hit-to-miss ratios. I can’t think of a single Ormonde Jayne that I don’t enjoy, though I wear Tiare and Ta’if the most frequently.

I’d love to win! I live in the US. Thank you for the chance!

  • I like the terms “shimmer” and “lustre” as describing the perfume. It makes me want to experience it. Thanks for the review. USA

  • Just wow! This sounds so amazing. Here is my favorite part.

I live in the U.S. and my favorite OJ is Frangipani. Thanks for the generous giveaway.

  • This perfume sounds amazing based of the Gail’s review. I was surprised reading that start of this perfume has “uncharacteristic longevity”. Many times I like perfumes start more than heart or base, but unfortunatly it generaly lasts no long and I can not enjoy it.
I’ve never tested Ormond Jayne perfume.
    UK

  • “Uncharacteristic longevity” say whatt??? I’m all in 🙂 Now this sounds extremly good, and those notes….amazing. I would really like to have the chance and test this juice. Until now i’ve only had the chance to smell Ormonde man and that’s a real chypre gem. Thanks for the draw, i live in the EU.

  • Thank you, Gail for review- laconic , very informative and nice!!!! I think this perfume is more feminine based of the Gsil review. Can I wear this beauty?
I’m not familiar with Ormond Jayne perfume, but gave read so many nice reviews.
    EU

  • That is surprising that the top note stays such a long time. That is usually the note that I love the most and it is so fleeting! Very interesting. Ormond Jayne’s offerings are luxurious and lasting. I am still sampling a few and trying to decide and her line is top notch. Seems like a year round fragrance to me. Thanks for the info (i didn’t realize the gold was a trilogy).

  • A fragrance with sillage that is at once polite and seductive sounds amazing! I’ve never owned any of Ormond Jayne’s offerings. USA

  • Have t tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrance. This one sounds like a strong white floral. Reviews are always great. Thanks USA

  • Wow, such generous prize, thank you for the chance!
My favorite is Ormonde Jayne Woman, which is probably the most subtle fragrance that I know, its structure is very delicate (despite the notes themselves are not very feminine). This one sounds even more sophisticated, as it “interprets the luminous, lustrous effect in scent, creating a cool, vitreous fragrance with a silken-white floral heart”. I really like perfumes with cool silk structure.
    I live in Europe (EU).

  • Wow! That sounds stunning! I mean literally breathtaking for a second. Wonderful review of what sounds like a wondrous scent! I like that you not only talked about longevity and development but also temperature and texture, which mean just as much to me. Lustrous things are my absolute favorite! The clary sage and pepper all the way through vanilla-orris-ambrette, it all sounds amazing.

I liked sampling Black Gold and Osmanthus but my favorite OJ is Woman. If I ever had a signature scent, that’s what I think it would be.

    Thank you!
    USA

  • Oh what a luminous review of this beautiful new perfume White Gold . I loved Gail ‘s superb choice of words to describe this gem of. Scent . Hot / cold , the use of Latin – all spell bounded me !
I would love to win . My favorite Orminde Jayne is Champaca !
    Thank you

  • I love learning about words, so I appreciate Gail’s discussion of the Latin word for “light” and the concept of luster in relation to this fragrance. It sounds like a wonderful combination of cool and warm and bright and dark notes. My favorite Ormonde Jayne fragrance is Tolu–I get tons of compliments! I’m in the US and would love to win this, thank you.

  • I love the description of the clary sage and freesia notes. This certainly seems like a fragrance that will last and last on the skin. I also like Gail’s description of luster. I would love to try this lustrous fragrance.
I haven’t tried anything from Ormonde Jayne, but Zizan sounds wonderful.
    I live in the USA.

  • I live in the US and my favorite OJ is probably Frangipani! So I’m very curious about White Gold — lustrous but lasting! I adore fragrances that begin with a crisp floral hit but leave cozy drydowns. When I read that vanilla, labdanum, white musk and orris, I perked up!

  • I adored Black Gold by Ormonde Jayne and after reading Gail’s review painting such rich imagery and the vanilla notes present make it a shoo-in. Thank you!

  • I was so intrigued by how those top notes last so long, and also how this scent is both “polite and seductive”. Sounds just lovely. I do not have a favorite Ormond Jayne as I’ve not had the opportunity to try any just yet. US.

  • My favorite Ormonde Jayne fragrance is Bespoke Sensual Love. A friend of mine bought that bottle and I got to try it. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The description and the note of White Gold remind me somewhat of Sensual Love. Anyway, it sounds great and I would love to win this awesome sound fragrance. Thank you for the wonderful draw. I live in EU.

  • laureneboucher says:

I like how it is described as starting out cool and silvery. I also love the description of the progress of the fragrance. I haven’t tried anything by Ormonde Jayne yet but I would love to! I live in New Hampshire.

  • White Gold sounds just beautiful (particularly the orris and vanilla in the base), but what stood out to me is the mention of clary sage. My mother used to use clary sage essential oil to bring calm and creativity to stressful times (I can remember sniffing it a lot, along with Rosemary for memory, during exam time in school) and I still find myself drawn to the note when it appears in perfumes. I’ve yet to smell any Ormonde Jayne fragrances (though I’m convinced I’d love Woman and Vanille d’Iris) so I’d love for this to be my first! Many thanks for the draw. (I’m in the US)

  • Many thanks to everone for taking the time participate in the draw and for posting your thoughtful comments. It was such a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to try and to write a about this beautiful perfume.
