New Niche Perfumes: Jessica September Buchanan of 1000 Flowers “Love is Sweet and Ode to Him”

1000 flowers perfume love is sweet and ode to him

Jessica September Buchanan (Regalisse Noire was on of our top 25 perfumes of 2010) is one of our favorite Indie perfumers. We are delighted to learn of two new fragrances- a scented duet.  And for us that closes the year on a high note.

“A love story began when a boy from the east, met a girl from the west, when smiles and shy glances were exchanged, and their hearts leaned into each other.

She shared with him her love of flowers and perfume (especially roses and violets), and he shared with her sensuous parts of his culture, such as incense and oudwood, and the fragrant spices of his eastern cuisine. Together they began an exploration of the senses.

1000 flowers love is sweet

Love is Sweet represents the feminine in this story- full of roses, violets, vanilla, patchouli coeur, amber, and precious woods. (The name ‘Love is Sweet’ is inspired by the song from Anita Baker called “Sweet Love”…).

Notes: Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Bulgarian Rose oil, Iris, Turkish Rose absolute, Cinnamon, Purple Violets, Opoponax, Patchouli,  Vanilla Pods, Sandalwood, Tonka,  Musk, and Amber

1000 flowers ode to him

Ode to Him is the masculine counterpart- fresh with the cool notes of cardamom and Coriander, richly layered with oudwood, cedar, and resins of faraway lands. These fragrant compositions contain high concentrations of precious natural materials such as Rose, Vanilla pods, authentic Oud from Laos, and Orris.

Notes: Coriander, Cardamom, Immortelle absolute, Rose absolute, Clove, Sandalwood, Oud, Frankincense, Myrr, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Moss and Vetiver

  • I have gone through 5 bottles of Reglisse Noire which speaks to how much I adore this fragrance! I was not aware that Jessica was releasing two new ones! Judging from the notes I think I could really enjoy Ode to Him,but Love is Sweet sounds equally as wonderful! I am happy to see that there is a high concentration of naturals in both of these compositions.

  • While Ode to Him is another oud-based fragrance in a market inundated with ouds, I like the majority of notes and the respectable price point and bottle size. Definitely is going on my sampling list.

  • Thomas T: I assure you because oud is used in one of JSB’s fragrances doesnt make it an oud based scent. The oud note is here to stay and it is up to the perfumer on how to use it. Cardamon and spices got my attention

  • That is indeed nice news to end the year on! I’m glad to see new perfumes from 1000 Flowers and these sound lovely!

Happy New Year to everyone at Ca Fleure Bon!

  • These both sound interesting. i love the packaging and small (but not minuscule) sizes, something other niche brands should pursuit too. I just hate the absolute banality of the story. When a juice is good there is no need for such trivialities

  • Oh, this is really nice news. Jessica is so talented. I’m eager to eventually try both of these. Happy New Year to everyone at Cafleurebon.

  • Thank you MIchelyn for letting the world know about the new fragrances from 1000 Flowers. I am really excited about them, and as a perfumer, I have felt my skills become more developed during the creation process of these fragrances. They pushed my limits and made me grow.
I would like to respond however, to the comment above by Amer: The story behind these perfumes is absolutely true! It is inspired by my own life and a recent relationship that has spanned the last 16 months. This person has introduced to me many new spices and spice combinations and taught me a lot about his native cuisine; which in turn has inspired and influenced my perfumery style. So nothing trivial or banal about the story. 🙂
I wish everyone the happiest and most wonderful 2013!
