Navitus Parfums Lyrik Review (Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet) 2021+ magnetic giveaway

Navitus Parfums Lyrik review

Navitus Parfums Lyric bottle by Rachel©

What initially drew me to Navitus Parfums Lyrik were the perfumers who created it: Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet. As you may remember from my previous post “Three you should be wearing by Julien Rasquinet” I am a long-time admirer of Julien Rasquinet’s work and seeing that he, once again, teamed up with master perfumer Dominque Ropion, as he did for Arabian Oud’s top seller (and one of my personal favorites), Madawi, how could I resist giving Navitus Parfums Lyrik a try?

From the first whiff of Navitus Parfums Lyrik, I could have, without even knowing, guessed that this was a Rasquinet / Ropion creation. It has the richness and density of an Arabic fragrance which, is not surprising since Navitus Parfums is a Dubai based brand.  But it is not a traditional Arabian scent in that there is no rose, no oud, not even any saffron.  Yet, it takes me back to my years in the UAE where big bold fragrances were the norm not the exception. Navitus Parfums Lyrik  smells of top-quality ingredients right from the start all the way through the long-lasting dry down. As an extrait parfum, as are all Navitus fragrances, Lyrik has outstanding longevity with a sillage that attracts compliments but is not overwhelming after it has a few minutes to settle down on your skin.

The brand mentions three key words associated with Lyrik: Magnetic | Sexy | Captivating

While I take most marketing copy with a grain of salt, I do agree that Navitus Parfums Lyric is a scent that draws people in and holds their attention. The mix of citrus and spice in the top notes along with the creamy almond of the heart creates a fresh yet soft woodiness that leans slightly traditionally masculine. However, don’t let this turn you off my fellow female aficionados, after the first few minutes Lyrik changes its tone through the addition of a semi-sweet toffee note. Lyrik achieves the perfect balancing act between gourmand and ambery. The spices and olibanum keep it from going overboard on the sweetness and instead you are left with an enveloping sense of warmth and coziness found only in the finest amber perfumes.

While wearing Lyrik, I couldn’t help but reflect upon two other Julien Rasquinet creations, Golden Serenade by Jusbox and Fidelis by Histoires de Parfums.  While not to suggest a direct comparison between these scents, there is an overall familiarity about them. Even the previously mentioned, Madawi by Arabian Oud, while sweeter than any of these, could easily fall into this category of luxurious scents worthy of being a signature fragrance (if you happen to be looking for one).  Lyrik can certainly be worn year-round thanks to the freshness of the top notes tempering the warmth of the base.

Navitus Parfums has found a winning combination of working with some of the best perfumers (Bertrand Duchaufour, Jorge Lee, Lucas Sieuzac, Francis Kurkdjian and Jerome di Marino, Christian Carbonnel and Sidonie Lancesseur to name a few) and allowing people with a genuine passion for fragrance, (such as Video Editor Steven Gavrielatos and YouTube video reviewer Darian Hill), to drive the creative vision.

While Navitus Parfums Lyrik is exceptionally executed and in a sea of mediocre releases, it stands firmly on a high pedestal. The composition is well balanced, and I find it to be quite unisex, especially with the touch of toffee in the base.

  • Navitus Parfums have some great offerings! Would love to have Lyrik in my collection as well. Thank you for the opportunity.

I love how well-balanced Rachel makes it seem. There’s a lot here that can be overwhelming, but she explains that the sweetness, resins, and aromatics/spices are all tempered together well. I also love how she makes the sillage sound present but reasonable. Thanks for this draw! I’m in the US (Colorado).

  • Julien’s affiliation with Pierre Bourdon and This is Not a Blue Bottle can certainly only assist the Master Dominique Ropion’s hand in this Navitus release. The tempering of the fresher opening with the sweetness of the base piqued my interest, sounding not too unlike Ambre Royal in concept as a year-round amber.

California based. Appreciate the opportunity, as always.

  • I am not a huge fan of toffee in fragrance, but both of these perfumers are great at what they do. I love all the other notes, and would hope the toffee is used to slightly sweeten the deal. Thank you for the draw! US.

What sparks my interest, firstly, are the 2 perfumers. I know their reputations (and some of their frags), and if their associated with a fragrance, its always good. Secondly, she brought out the high quality of the fragrance, as well as its uniqueness and versatility. So, since this fragrance was “exceptionally executed”, I’m sold.

You can send my bottle to Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • Rachels’s mention of almond turned me off slightly (almond= Pegasus to me), but toffee intrigues me, or the combination of the 2. Look forward to trying it!

  • I have been looking at this fragrance for awhile. I have been following Darian Hill for awhile and he is one of my favorite fragrance reviewers. I recently pulled the trigger on two of his newest releases and was not disappointed at all. He is a gourmand lover like myself so when Rachel mentions that toffee in the base I already know what’s up. I like that she also mentions that it is well balanced and could possibly be worn year-round for a signature scent (yes I am looking for one).

    I live in Dallas, TX.

The fact that it ended off by saying its on a high pedal sold me. There are many mediocre fragrances that have been dropping lately. Toffee and Cinnamon usually tend to lend for mass appealing. If I win I look forward to adding this to my collection

  • I have a good feeling about Lyrik , Rachel told us about the top-quality ingredients used , the two famous perfumers who made it, Julien Rasquinet and Dominique Ropion.
“Yet, it takes me back to my years in the UAE where big bold fragrances were the norm not the exception”
Some things will never change 🙂
I’m also are curious about the comparison Rachel made with Edtion Rare Fidelis , my favorite Histoires de Parfums with oud, coffee and raspberry. Awesome and kind of underrated release .
My favorite Navitus Parfums fragrance is Navus , my husband is into Absolutio , and Vivamor . One of our family brands .
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • I am always on the lookout for a potential signature scent, and how can you go wrong with these guys? NV, USA.

  • Wow, this sounds amazing. I like some more masculine leaning scents, and this one involves almond, a favorite note of mine. This seems perfect for the cooler months. In maryland.

  • I was drawn to Rachel’s review of Lyrik because of the perfumers that made it. Separately they have made alot of good fragrances in the past. And Lyrik seems intriguing with the fresh opening an notes and then turning into somewhat of a gourmand with the toffee note. Would love to try this one.

  • The warmth and spiciness of this sounds beautiful, and I was also intrigued by the statement that it can be worn year round– a little unusual for perfumes like this, I think!

  • I like that in Rachel’s review of Lyrik, she mentions that “It has the richness and density of an Arabic fragrance which, is not surprising since Navitus Parfums is a Dubai based brand”. I like some of these middle-eastern/Arabic brands, especially the ones with oud. Lyrik does not have oud but it has the same class and elegance as the ones with oud. I have not tried this brand but from Rachel’s review it seems I would love their offerings. Thank you for the draw and review. I am from the USA.

  • Very interesting review by Rachel of this gem by Navitus Parfums. I am a huge fan of Dominique Ropion work and I think that this unisex fragrance is a blast with the toffee notes, that I really love.
    Would love to smell it.

I had an opportunity to win a Navitus earlier this year and missed out due to my negligence. One thing I do like about the brand is the valuing of expert perfumers and allowing them to creatively compose. I like the spicy and toffee notes in this offering and the fact that it’s versatile. I appreciate year-round fragrances more. I appreciate your review, Ms. Rachel. Really hope to add this to my collection. Thanks for the opportunity from Virginia, USA!

  • Magnetic/Sext/Captivating are three great attributes for a fragrance. Lyric certainly has a great provenance in its perfumers; Rasquinet and Ropion. The citrus and spice with the intriguing addition of caraway and what seems a gourmand base featuring toffee is fascinating. This sounds like a unique scent created by two masters. MD, USA.

  • Great review. Ropion is one of the best. Can’t wait to smell this! I’ve got all 8 of BBB’s collection from Navitus and would love to get my nose on this as well.

  • I’m intrigued about Navitus Lyrik because it can be worn year round. The almond and toffee notes sound amazing. Although I am female, I do like masculine leaning fragrances on myself, especially in the colder months.

  • This fragrance sounds amazing , I’ve seen a few reviews and it’s one I’ve wanted to try. It sounds like it sings off the skin, a well balanced composition.

I am a big fan of Fidelis by Histoires de Parfums and so I think I would love Lyrik. I love bold Arabian perfumes and the toffee note is especially interesting especially paired with olibanum. I am also a fan of gourmand and ambery frags and Lyrik seems to be in the middle. Rachel’s review was concise and to the point and it made me get a good idea about what the fragrance is like. Thank you

  • I’m a fan of the two perfumers and this grabbed my attention as I’ve tried some of their creations like Russian Tea and Costume National Homme. Lyrik sounds inspired and quite well blended. I’m in USA

  • The two perfumers make some of my favorite fragrances, so of course I am excited to what they come with together. I love middle eastern scents so the fact this fragrance goes in that direction although having a sweeter toffee note intrigues me. Thank you, Rachel, for the informative article and thank you Navitus for the giveaway!

  • Rachel Watson take on Navitus Parfums Lyric made me think of making Almond and Cardamom Toffee Cake, and later on sharing it with my girlfriend, sitting next to Al Qudra Lake in Dubai, and waiting for the sunset , while the smell of burning incense is also lingering in the air.
It’s a beautiful place. Not much crowded in morning , and I think the image i described matches the tone of Lyric. Since Rachel spent a few years living in UAE, I’m sure she knows the beauty of Al Qudra Lake.
There are two Navitus Parfums I have , Vivamor and Serenade .Vivamor smells a bit like Pineapple Upside Down Cake with saffron.Serenade reminds me of Chocolate Ganache Cognac Cake, with candied orange peel on top.
A lot of famous perfumers worked with Navitus, Lyric is made by Julien Rasquinet and Dominique Ropion , I wonder what they cooked? Jorge Lee did great with Vivamor and Serenade
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • Amber is one of my favorite notes, at least in fall and winter, and the addition of a gourmand touch of toffee sounds very irresistible. I would love to try this Navitus scent!

  • I’ve been reaching for various amber fragrances lately, and a warm, spicy, resinous heart always feels like a comfort on dreary days. I don’t think I’ve tried many that mix amber with gourmand elements, so the almond and olibanum-tempered toffee notes are intriguing here. I’d also like to try an amber with a fresh opening. Lyrik sounds wonderful—especially at extrait strength. Thanks for the review, Rachel.

  • Michael Prince says:

What interests me about Rachel’s review of Navitus Parfums Lyrik is that is was created by master perfumers Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet. With 3 words to describe this fragrance being magnetic, sexy, and captivating this sounds magnificent. Rachel describes the complexity and superb performance of this fragrance which also draws me in. Rachel states this is a spicy, ambery, gourmand fragrance which are fragrance categories which I love. I am from the USA.

  • Wow… beautifully described. What first peaked my interest was the two perfumers responsible for the masterpiece I believe this to be. I get an idea of what this may smell like just from reading this review. You mentioned that my some of my favorite notes are in this perfume: cardamom, cinnamon, olibanum, toffee. What also really sparked an interest in this is that it’s an a-typical Arabian perfume (I love the richness and elegance of Arabians but I’m not a fan of oud and I feel that it’s in so many Arabians and the fact that oud was left out is unusual but it works for me)…so this must be beautiful…the fact that it’s an extrait – that really draws me in as well because it’s going to be a powerhouse and that was also mentioned in this review. I love sillage bombs!! Also, the spice, the almond and the toffee – this extrait is right up my alley. “The perfect balancing act between gourmand and ambery.” This just sounds so amazing and “magnetic, sexy and captivating” is exactly as I believe this will be. Thank you for your generous giveaway. I’m in PA

  • I have really enjoyed all of the Navitas fragrances I’ve purchased so far. I haven’t had the pleasure of testing Lyrik yet but I love the combination of notes. It sounds like it may be in the same style family of Hypnotic Poison, which is one of my favorite fragrances. I love the note of almond. I like how the fragrance is described as the perfect balancing act between gourmand and ambery. It sounds gorgeous!

Rachel’s review inspired me to research the creations of Julien Rasquinet and Dominique Ropion. They have created so many fragrances that I have heard about and want to try. The spicy and amber notes of Navitus Lyrik, along with the citrus notes, sound so well-balanced and elegant.
    I live in the USA.

  • I like Bow Tie Fragrance Guy style, and taste for fragrances. Like me he wears suits almost all the time, “I like to look good, and to smell Amazing” is his YouTube motto , and I feel the same way .
Lyrik I like because like Rachel told us , it has the richness and density of an Arabic fragrance, but modernized by Julien Rasquinet and Dominique Ropion with added toffee and almonds.
Navitus Vivamor i own , it’s versatile, pleasing all year round fragrance I wear on regular basis.
Thank you Rachel , Bow Tie Fragrance Guy , and Navitus Parfums

Perfumers Ropion and Rasquinet could be considered two of the best perfumers of all time. I’m truly interested to try this fragrance for multiple reasons, e.g. when Rachel says “The spices and olibanum keep it from going overboard on the sweetness and instead you are left with an enveloping sense of warmth and coziness found only in the finest amber perfumes.” I live in the U.S.A.

  • Thanks for the nice writeup Rachel. That is some high praise.

It is true that Navitus has excellent briefs and has managed to pull in the best from the world of perfumery.

Lyrik sounds like a fragrance that has been reigned in by an experienced hand. It is extremely difficult to create a fragrance that is dominated by gourmand notes, yet does not overpower – hats off to the perfumer.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • In case someone wonders Bow Tie Fragrance Guy said on his YouTube channel Lyrik is the new name of Aubade. Originally Navitus released the fragrance as Aubade , but the name was changed to Lyrik because some other brand trademarked the Aubade name.
Aubade or Lyrik , the collaboration between Julien Rasquinet and Dominique Ropion is the best Navitus fragrance .
Compared to Jusbox Golden Serenade , Lyrik is not as sweet, and the opening is different, but there are similarities too , Rachel do have a point .
Delicately sweet, and cozy , anyone could wear Lyrik, and enjoy the scent
    Thanks for the draw

  • Just like Rachel, I’m long time admirer of Julien Rasquinet work, he’s in my top 3 favorite performers, and one day he could very well be one of the greatest ever.
In my opinion of course the best Frédéric Malle, Masque Milano, BDK Parfums, Creed and Jusbox fragrances are his creations!!!!
I do again agree the opening, and the base of Lyrik are quite different. The opening is fresh and spicy, but the in the base the base it gets sweeter without going into gourmand territory. The incense is there too , but in the background adding in a nice way to the composition.
I love a lot of Navitus Parfums fragrances , Soir Exclusif is one of the best in their catalog.

  • Wonderful review Rachel! What sparks my interest about Rachel’s review of Navitus Parfums Lyrik is the idea of an Arabic fragrance which has none of the traditional Arabian fragrance notes – no rose, no oud, no saffron. I love non-traditional fragrances that thrive on the juxtaposition of old and new, old style with new materials and notes. So this Arabian style fragrance with a focus instead on citrus, creamy Almond, and Toffee really has me curious. I live in the US.
