If you’re in the middle of luxury, it’s not luxury, it’s reality; you have to be really, really far away from luxury for it to be shiny; clear; a story. In a way, it is not those who live it, nor is it those who cater to it who define it as such; for only separation from luxuries can determine them, and only those living a different reality can see luxury from a wide angle. (To put it in perspective (yes, pun intended), “luxury” (meaning “comfortable excess”) and “luxation” (meaning “dislocation”, “bending”) have the same root. Fittingly, for my kid self, aristocratic blue blood equaled riding horses.)

Does that chip at its splendor? Does it change the way we crave? Apparently not–our psychology ensures that, if we ever get to live our first idea of luxury, we’re never disappointed; in fact, we move it from the aspirational bucket into the memory bucket, and keepsake it tenderly alongside everything that’s dear.

As a child, the closest I felt to luxury was when my aunt (master tailor at the fashion gallery in town) would gift me expired editions of the Neckermann / Otto magazines. I’d come home, perch on the top of the bed, take my scissors, glue, and blank paper, and I’d start creating my own collections… [apart from looks], magazines brought the unfathomable notion of seasons, issues, and “new” collections. I also kept checking the date on the cover, and remember being overwhelmed by the discrepancy between the world out there and us. The impact was often too great to bear.

Up to 5 years old or so I lived with my grandparents. My grandmother was the preacher’s housekeeper; sometimes she took me and it was like entering another world where everything was different. The priest would come home in a chariot pulled by a large, docile, beautiful black horse; the chariot had 2 seats, a ladder pulled by a chain, and its own stagecoach. The big guy always wore a long fur coat with fur at the collar, a high top hat, and a street cane with a silver duck handle. They had personnel for everything- horse keepers, cleaning staff, cooking staff; the front door had painted glass panels; inside the house there was a small altar, a piano, a guitar; floors were covered of the same kind most people save for wall decor; and in the garden, under a vine, there was a swing. Everything, everything was different.

The ultimate luxury of my childhood was the bathtub. We lived in a Soviet-style dormitory, on a long corridor lined with mini studios; each family occupied one, and we all shared a kitchen and bathroom (shower only) at the end of the corridor [like you now see in period movies]. There was a strict table with washing and cooking times, and we all kept a rigorous track of it all.

Enter our visits to my aunt in Chisinau [n.r.- the capital of the Republic of Moldova], which at that time was my personal Paris. I had never seen so many books, Burda magazines, a perfume bottle closet (still remember the small, green bottle I finally identified as Coriander), a large terrace-type balcony with vines…. but most importantly, a BATH! Lying in it for hours was my absolute luxury, a refuge in an imaginary life. That was my “aristocracy.”

Jovoy Paris Ambre Premier Review (Michelle Saramitot) 2011

The towel hook. Photo by tackrus; creative direction, editing and digital art by @a_nose_knows for Jovoy Paris Ambre Premier

She was the sister of the painter I.C., and S.C.’s [world-renowned conductor] sister-in-law. Her name was Susanne, and she was around 60 when I met her. She was thin, always careful with her figure. She smelled of expensive creams and looked fresh and composed; she was very gentle and funny, spoke French as her first language, and kept an Oxford English. Her husband was extremely courteous, and together they lived in a small, tidy, fragrant, airy, and especially warm apartment. Upon my arrival, I’d be asked to wash my hands and, in the bathroom, I’d stare at the expensive toothpaste, French creams, and other imported wonders. Susanne tutored about 4 children a day, and she really enjoyed her classes although I now know they were her only source of income. I found out much later that her father had spent years in prison as a political detainee after the rest of the family managed to escape to France. Yet, it was this couple’s cheerfulness, zest for life, and immense politeness that separated their kind from the rest of us.

I will evoke here the luxury of keeping one’s habits to the end. My grandmother never bought anything pret-a-porter; her clothes were always made to measure, and her shoes made to order; she kept visitation hours even when the only snacks to spare were limited to jam and homemade cookies. Looking back, I wonder if what I considered a luxurious lifestyle was simply her refusal to adapt… However, the first time I really pondered upon luxury was when my grandmother (the epitome of luxury for me) told me about her own unattainable reference point: a friend of hers refused any marriage proposal that did not suit her, despite social pressures to become a bride.

At that age I didn’t understand luxury as an inner state, so my grandmother put it simply: she lived as she liked.

Jovoy Ambre Premier review

The horseless ride. Photo, creative direction, editing and digital art by @a_nose_knows for Jovoy Paris Ambre Premier

Ambre Premier, even after years of knowing it, makes me smile. It does not land into the pits of the stomach like some life-altering events (and, yes, perfumes) do; nor does it get attached to people, objects, notions or desires. It doesn’t conjure thoughts I do not have, nor does it make me what I am not. Instead, it rather calms me and brings me to the state one feels after traveling for 38h to get to the other side of Zanzibar: the quiet realization of dreaming-come-true, the satisfied sigh when you—pun intended—have arrived.

The application is linear and glowy, the sniff–honest and easy: the amber is crystalline and solar like a lump of hardened caramel; the citruses are confit and jewel-like, with floral undertones of peachy roses; the body is substantial enough with musks and darker vegetals to give this a grownup rendering. Shiny and carefree, Ambre Premier is effortless… like watching Dynasty, from really far away, in full technicolor.

Official notes: amber, spices, rose, vanilla, citrus, patchouli.

Other perceived notes: cotton candy, salt, cocoa, peach, powder, cardamom, white musk, doll heads, pepper, nutmeg

Disclaimer: Ambre Premier sent to me by Amerikas the USA distributor. Thank you so much.

Interesting and unusual selection of pictures. I really liked the little stories and the bathtub sounds familiar to me.
I have not had the chance to teste Ambre Premier, but would love to.

I really love Amber fragrance!!!!! I enjoy her sharing of the artistic photos which are echo with the words and smell~

  • Dana is unbelievably knowledgeable I enjoyed the way she described the whole experience of a luxury fragrance. I also find it interesting that after all those years this fragrance still made her smile. she is a class woman with a brilliant in depth review.
No I haven’t tried this fragrance yet but the notes are some of my favourites patchouli and rose cant go wrong with that.

  • Very original review. Not every scent has to be connected to memories or events. Just sitting down in a comfy chair with a hot cup of fragrant tea while curling your toes in high pile carpet does not evoke memories to me. It’s soothes one’s mind.

I want to try it now!

Unfortunately, I’ve not tried Ambre Premier before.

  • I visited the Jovoy boutique in Paris years ago and remember the amber candle they burn but not the perfume. I am a fan of the brand especially Gardez-moi. Such an interesting approach to fragrance. Nice art

  • An interesting thought experiment. What is luxury? It truly depends upon your threshold. What becomes mundane to one is no longer a luxury, even if it one to 99% of others. Luxury is a constantly moving goal post, one that could sardonically summarize the human condition. I enjoyed the thought provoking review. I have not tried this fragrance before, but I would I would love to. From Canada.

  • I love Dana’s stories! It definitely helped evoke the perspective of luxury, from a compare/contrast relative point of view. I have not tried this scent before or even anything from this house, but ambers are one of my favorite scent categories. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I try to avoid quoting the fragments of the reviews that I’ve enjoyed the most, but this one sums up so well how I feel about true luxury nowadays: “…cheerfulness, zest for life, and immense politeness that separated their kind from the rest of us”.

I haven’t tried Ambre Premier, maybe I will soon 🙂

Thank you for the draw, Jovoy Paris! Russia

  • I haven’t tried this fragrance before but I always love discovering a new amber scent. This one seems interesting with the sweet and spicy notes surrounding it. I am in the USA.

  • Love that my hometown, Chisinau, got a shoutout. Indeed everything is relative and luxury is not a sport car, a huge mansion and everything covered in gold, it is the little things in life that make us happy.
    Greetings from Romania.

Interesting views and memories about the world and it’s people, and of course the ambre premier, sounds delectable, I have to admit that I am a fan of the house, Las Vegas NV.

  • Oh what a beautiful review! I could picture all of the history as this unfolded! The perfume sounds delicious! I am I florida USA thanks for the chance!

  • I got lost in Dana’s story and forgot I was reading a review – she writes so well. Haven’t tried any of Jovoy perfumes, yet. This review reminded me of a movie on Elizabeth Arden we saw recently (available on Amazon). Thanks for the draw and the review. Writing from USA.

This sounds like a fun, joyful Amber! Cocoa, peach and cardamom bring a subtle spice. As always, dana gives an interesting, personal perspective on a fragrance. I love her description of Chisinau and the elegant, luxury she experienced with her grandmother. I’ve never tried Ambre Premier but would love to. I’m in MD, USA.

  • raymondchau says:

The review is so well written, it took me to a fantasy faraway land of time where I have never or could set foot to. Perfumery, in some ways, is similar to reveries, where boundaries are pushed and your fantasy is your own limitation.
Amber Premier is like a strange dream I’ve never been through, and such I intrigue.
    I live in Canada

  • Luxury is certainly personal. To some, something materialistic to treasure. To others, simply a few moments of peaceful silence. I haven’t tried Ambre Premier, thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

  • Dana says Ambre Premier is one of a kind amber perfume that does its own thing and not follows the trend. USA

  • LinePlaneVolume says:

Dana’s imagery always contributes a lot to the reviews themselves! I’m familiar with Ambre Premier and the way she describes it is spot on… it works well without standing out in any explosive way… it just works. Writing from Pacific Northwest, US.

  • astro_girl says:

Appreciate the description of notes and metaphors such as watching a Dynasty from far away in full technicolor. I live in northern Virginia. Thank you!

  • Unusual and original memories and lifescenes of Dana – how relative can be the personal perception of luxury. I can understand in this context how comforting could be an amber scent, a fine fragrance. The most loved fragragrance – no matter how expensive it would be – must not be a luxury, but part of us, a signiture. I live in the EU.

  • What an interesting review. I enjoyed the thoughts on what is luxury and the examples. I love how Ambre Premier sounds just like it’s yourself, it just is. I would love a perfume like that. I’m in U.K.

  • Hashim Madani says:

Great review by Dana as always. I haven’t tried Ambre Premier but I wonder if the ‘peach’ note Dana perceives is actually the ‘candied orange’ note (listed as an official note on Jovoy’s website). VA, USA.

  • NiceVULady says:

Danu writes an interesting description of luxury from what seems to be different perspectives. Of course, luxury must always come from where you are at any given moment in time. I’ve not tried Ambre Premier, but it certainly sounds like something I would really enjoy wearing, especially as I love amber in general. Thank you for such an originally written review and for a most generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • sweetwilly88 says:

I understand now luxury really is perceived differently by everyone. I had assumed luxury had a set standard like gold jewelry and sports cars or caviar served on fine china. To a lot of people, to most people, that standard probably does not stray far from their definition. I understand now that my luxury is far different from horse drawn priests and aunts in Maldova but, a bathtub, on the other hand could fit in my perception. I have never tried Ambre Premier. All of its notes are scents I tend to love either on myself or on the one I love. I live in a western suburb of Chicago, IL.

  • besar_bears says:

I loved how the review challenges the concept of luxury and our own interpretations of it. Being older, I do look back at childhood days and how it is/was a luxury to feel like I had an infinite amount of time to while away. I have yet to try any Jovoy fragrance; fingers crossed for the draw. I reside in Singapore.

  • What I loved most about dana’s review was just how evocative it was.
It’s incredible to see a fragrance that way and even more interesting to translate that to a review for others to try share and experience.
Nobody does it like dana , it was a joy to read.

    I’m from Ireland.

  • I only know a couple of fragrances from Jovoy’s range, but not Ambre Premier. I very much like amber and this one seems like a textbook take on amber, so I am sure I would like this one as well. Thanks for the draw!

  • Very interested in basically all Amber fragrances. This review has awakened my interest and it has a very personal touch. i really liked it. Would love to try this Jovoy Paris scent. Living in the EU

  • I’m fascinated by artistic energy based on simple things like those magazines, because I am different.
I’m a fan of the house Jovoy, but haven’t met Ambre Premier yet, and only 2 or 3 others by Michele Saramito. I’m curious and would love to win this to Germany, thanks for the draw!

  • ElenaChiss says:

I like the perceived notes: powder, cotton candy and… doll heads!
I wonder if I will perceive those notes as well.

    Thank you! EU

  • It was a delight to read this review. Dana is an extremely knowledgeable and intelligent woman and i’ve always enjoyed her reviews, i’ve learned a lot from her. Amber is one of my favorite notes and i would love to try this perfume.
    Thanks for the opportunity.
    I live in Germany

  • Anita Capota says:

The memories of luxury are so personal and vivid, I enjoyed each of them especially tha art photos attached to each one.I never had the opportunity to test the fragrance. I’m from Romania.

  • Interesting review, luxury is a very relative term, everyone has a different reference for luxury, but we all have the same feeling when experiencing luxury. Dana tried to explain luxury by recreating those feelings.
Never tries Ambre premier before but would love to try it.

    from France

  • I am intrigued by the notes of amber, spices, rose, vanilla, citrus, patchouli.
    And the
Other perceived notes of cotton candy, salt, cocoa, peach, powder, cardamom, white musk, doll heads, pepper, nutmeg. I found the bit about the bathtub and luxury interesting. Thanks from the United Kingdom

  • If you’re in the middle of luxury, it’s not luxury, it’s reality; you have to be really, really far away from luxury for it to be shiny; clear; a story. A beautiful perspective of Luxury by Dana her reviews always hit the spot. I am intrigued by the notes of Rose and Patchouli. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

The other day I was thinking about my life, about my freedom that is so extent from some point of view, how I can still do a lot of thing on my terms. Or, how beautifully VB said ” she did what she liked”. I am lucky enough to do very often things that I love. Love, not like. So yes, I indulge myself in the luxury of my life because luxury to me is drinking coffee with my mom and grandma, reading Agatha Christie, fill the room with the smell of lit peppermint candles and being able to dream at the future.
Dana, you had me at salt and cotton candy. MINE! MINE! MINE!:-))
Never had the chance to smell a Ambre Premier before… even though when the draw for the 22 sample kit was in the cards, I spent more than 5 hours reading about all the perfumes from JOVOY and Ambre Premier was present there, too 🙂
    I live in Romania

  • marcopietro says:

I found the article interesting and full of ideas in the various contributions. Interesting incipit on the idea of luxury and I share some of the experiences reported, such as the closeness of a seamstress mother and the connection of the concept of luxury to very personal things, sometimes of little value to others. I never tried Ambre Premier.
    I live in EU.
    Thanks!

  • Hi! I enjoyed the images from the past, as I also have the memories that are triggered by perfumes and scents. All pictures have bits and pieces that are part of my childhood memories, too! Thank you, Dana! I love amber and spices in perfumes and I am very intrigued by the house of Jovoy, so I would love to try Ambre Premier!
    I live in Romania, EU.

  • chrystyna says:

Beautiful pictures and such an interesting type of review! Thank you, Dana, and congratulations!
I do not wish to participate to the draw, just to leave here my thoughts! From Romania

  • Amanda32828 says:

Luxury, this is all I can think about when reading your review about this wonderful fragrance. And the notes off course what’s not to love about it, the rose, vanilla and citrus together they make a magical combination. The perceived notes added by the author makes all quite more intriguing to me; cotton candy, salt, cocoa…I bet this smell delicious on the summer months.
Sadly for me, I haven’t had the privileges of owning any Jovoy fragrances yet but who knows? This one could be my first one. Commenting from Orlando, Fl.

  • wagnerflo says:

That was a nice selection of lovely stories. Thank you for that. One top a well thought-out description of the perfume. What’s not to like?

The perfume for sure not. Sounds easy to wear, well composed and with a slight edge. Could very well be up my alley. So please enter me in the draw. Haven’t tried any Jovoy fragrances yet. I’m from Germany.

  • I liked the mini stories, reminiscences of every day life in the life of normal and simple people. Nice photos as well! Very artsy and different! It would be nice to test the Jovoy creation for I do not know any from this house. EU. Thanks!

  • doveskylark says:

I love when perfume reviews take me by surprise and make me think. This review by dana made me think that the ultimate luxury is not having to care what others might or might not be thinking about me, not needing to seek approval or disapproval. Just the ability to choose and the strength to accept the repercussions of one’s own choices. I like that dana wrote that Ambre Premier doesn’t conjure up thoughts that one doesn’t have….yes, I think sometimes we need a break from that type of conjuring.
I haven’t tried Ambre Premier yet.
    I live in the USA.

  • Jannick85 says:

Dana is really knowledgeable and I enjoy the artistic pictures. I’ve never tried this fragrance but would love to win it.
    Greetings from Denmark

  • All these different experiences of luxury are mind-opening. My own idea of luxury is a little inn one block from the beach in Sea Girt, New Jersey just before the season starts. The beach is empty and I can watch the sun come up, and walk back for a quick nap followed by a delicious breakfast with fresh blueberries and mint.
I have not tried Ambre Premier.
    I am in the US

  • My favourite quote was “Looking back, I wonder if what I considered a luxurious lifestyle was simply [my grandmother’s] refusal to adapt.” Interesting sentiment indeed. Loved the description of Ambre Premier being “solar like a lump of hardened caramel.” I could sure go for some caramel right now… The ‘other percieved notes’ is always a helpful reference. Never tried Ambre Premier myself, but I’m looking forward to sampling more from Jovoy in the future. Canada.

  • I enjoyed hearing about the different ideas of luxury such as the stagecoach and servants or the bathtub, and also the part explaining that there has to be separation from it to recognize it. Those parts made this really interesting. The perfume also sounds really nice and I’d love to try it especially as I’ve yet to try a Jovoy Paris fragrance. I live in CT USA. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • I liked, besides her digital art which is always otherworldly, the way Dana describes the perfume – ” It does not land into the pits of the stomach like some life-altering events (and, yes, perfumes) do; nor does it get attached to people, objects, notions or desires. It doesn’t conjure thoughts I do not have, nor does it make me what I am not.”
I’d like to wear a perfume like that, as oposed to a challange, it rather sounds like a comforting hug.
I don’t know the perfume [alas] and I live in Europe.

  • mleenstra says:

I love the short collection of memories about luxury. My memory of luxury is actually about a perfume. I remember my Dad gifting my Mum Eau de Soir by Sisley for her birthday. I remember running my fingers over the magnificent bottle with the golden statuette on top. I thought it was so luxurious. Recently I bought myself a bottle and it smells like I remember, a million bucks. I have never tried but Amber Premier sounds like that epitome of luxury. Why not indulge… Marit, UK

  • What a beautiful retrospective of a different time in life!

We may even now have a new normal and look back on our own days pre-COVID and find things that were both better and worse, and see that our definitions of luxury have changed, simplified, etc. “To live as you like” is indeed a state of luxury.

In Canada and thank you for the words to reflect on today!

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I love the idea of luxury as living as you like! Your grandmother sounds like a remarkable woman. I also love amber and your comparison to a lump of hardened caramel is so vivid. Thank you for the review and draw. I’m in the US.

  • Jake Dauod says:

I love how Dana incorporated some of her life into her review. I also agree with the idea that luxury is best defined by those who live so far from it. As a whole, this is one of my favorite reviews. As for the fragrance, I haven’t yet tried it, but I am a sucker for an amber fragrance. Also, it is from Jovoy so I know that it is amazing quality and I would love to get my nose on it. Warm regards from Illinois, USA.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I like hearing from Dana, asshe is a well-spoken reviewer. Not only did she thoroughly the goodness of the fragrance, but I really appreciated how she deftly interwove her life into her review. Brava!

I’ve only tried a few Jovoy fragrances, but not Ambre Premier. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • I really enjoyed Dana’s review, likening Ambre Premier by Jovoy as a fragrance that can transcend time and one that calms her.

I adore amber in fragrances. Ambery scents on a cold Winter’s day is the equivalent of a warm, comforting hug (something we’re all craving during this pandemic). Sadly, I haven’t had the chance to test Jovoy’s Ambre Premier, but I would like to.

    I live in Melbourne, Australia.

    Good luck to all.

  • I liked Dana’s review for its pointed brevity which still captured the essence of this beautiful fragrance. I have not tried Ambre Premier before, and would love to! TX, USA

  • Delightful review from dana once again. I loved the selection of personal stories, they added a special, intimate flavor to the article. I also loved the description of this amber as being carefree and solar, easy and comforting. Sometimes a cozy perfume is all you need. I have never tried it before and I’m in the EU, thanks for the draw.

  • Very interesting review. I’ve tried amber premier once last time I visited Jovoy in Paris. It was a very soothing, smooth and powdery scent on my skin and I absolutely loved it. Dana’s description of this one is both unusual and resonant. I would love to have this one in my growing collection. Good luck to everyone.

What I found interesting about Dana’s review is the weird subject use to introduce this scent.

  • Up until recently, I was not aware of Jovoy fragrances. Checked them out, and boy oh boy I was so wrong with my “Maybe later” policy towards the house.
Remember Me is in my possession now, green tea, warm, spicy and lactonic. Must try fragrance ! My favorite Jovoy.
Ambre Premier I think it will be a high class oriental, with floral nuances.
Thank. USA … at home , barbers are obviously non-essential businesses, and we’re not allowed to work, even with face masks , gloves and shields 🙁

  • Ambre Premier i have not smelled before , but Dana stories are always so entertaining I’ll make sure I will. Amber is also one of my favorite notes .
Les Jeux Sont Faits is my favorite Jovoy. Underrated tobacco and rum gem I’m happy to have. Thanks

“Shiny and carefree, Ambre Premier is effortless… like watching Dynasty, from really far away, in full technicolor.”

Haha Dana , nice one 🙂 I feel like like I’m watching life itself from far away last 2 months. Maybe Ambre Premiere will cheer me up. No I haven’t tried it, but I have to say Psychedelique is beyond gorgeous, one of the best patchouli scents ever.
    Thank you for the opportunity

Dana, great review of Jovoy Paris Ambre Premier. This sounds like a beautiful amber fragrance with so much depth of smooth sweetness of vanilla, amber, and spices. I have never tried Ambre Premier before, but it sounds like a luxurious fragrance as Dana would describe it in the stories related to luxury in the beginning of the article. I am from the USA.

  • Dana always writing is always vivid, thought/sensory provoking and educational. Me being completely transparent I sometimes must read it twice to understand everything. It’s always worth it. I believe exposure is very important. Fashion magazines, National Geographic, Bon Appetit, fashion-forward aunties and the alike such as Cafleurebon create awareness of the world around us. It also creates lust—a knowledge of more or wanting what you lack. The idea of “lust” is rooted in luxury and in its etymology. And right now I am lusting for two things: the Amber Premier experience of traveling to the other side of Zanzibar and Jovoy Paris in the SF Bay Area. I’m here in California.

I only know one Jovoy fragrance . Bought a sample of Incident Diplomatique because of… again Sebastian speaking highly about it all the time. Classy fragrance for special occasions. My girlfriend , and hopefully future wife bought me a bottle soon after.
Caramel rose wedding cake with peaches , withe real rose water in it , that’s what I’m thinking right now, Ambre Premier I’ll check when I have a chance.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • Dana is always a very good story-teller with words and images. When it comes to childhood she impress me much.I haven’t tried Jovoy Paris Amber Premier. Greetings from Romania

Dana’s review pointed out an interesting aspect of luxury, that is most vividly recognized from afar. I think that’s an interesting aspect of life in general, outside perspective is needed to fully observe all aspects of a system. Yet, external observation doesn’t always allow experiences in context where many factors like intention, tradition, history, etc. come into play. Never tried a Jovoy, or luxury for that matter, but intrigued by the scent profile. Appreciate the opportunity! -Virginia, USA

Jovoy Paris is by far the best fragrance boutique i’ve ever been to-no US boutique comes even close .
Favorite Jovoy is Remember Me , but i do not own it yet . I have Incident Diplomatique . Ambre Premier i have tried , and as far as i can remember the opening was really sweet , like a gourmand … almost. I don’t know how it develops, I’ve only tried it on blotter , but not on skin.
    Thanks
Usually back and forth between USA and Scotland, and I hope soon I’ll be able to return to my usual routine.
    For now I’m in Virginia

  • Wonderful and informative video. This fragrance sounds incredible. Unfortunately haven’t gotten my nose on it. But hopefully soon in the future!

    Thanks for the draw!

I have not yet tried Ambre Premier , but make sure I will. Peachy roses , hardened caramel , spices , I’m in. I like how Dana told us five stories of different people, and their clash with luxury.
La Liturgie des Heures , Psychedelique , Les Jeux sont Faits Jovoy and Private Label are the Jovoy fragrances i have sampled ~ a month ago. La Liturgie des Heures review was done again by Dana , she likes Jovoy a lot 🙂 I like it , i mean La Liturgie des Heures, but unlike the others it stays really close to the skin . The other 3 are much stronger , i’m not sure if the concentration was different , or it’s just my opinion.
Les Jeux sont Faits Jovoy i found to be the best smelling one of the four , and i’ll most likely buy it for the autumn .
    Exciting giveaway, USA

  • “Luxury as an inner state”–I love that. I’ve never tried this scent or this house but I’m a huge amber fan. I’m in the US. Thank you for the review, the draw, and the stories.

  • I have not tried Ambre Premier. Love an amber fragrance though so this sounds right up my alley. I absolute love all the notes in this fragrance!

  • Outstanding review by Dana with explaining the notes with rose and patchouli and how after many years Ambre Premier makes her smile. I have not tried yet but am very interested. Thanks for the draw. I am in CA, USA.

Wow, I really loved this series of charming vignettes. I’ve never really pondered what luxury meant to me before, but reading this has encouraged me to craft my own view of what luxury is, what it looks like, how it feels. The most thought-provoking review I’ve read in some time! I’ve tested Ambre Premier once and I fell in love with it. As dana says, it truly is effortless. It envelops you like a soft sweater still warm from the dryer. I would love to win a bottle. I am in the US!

Thank you for the great review and the accompanying pictures Dana. I always enjoy it and wonder about the time and place that you grew up in and reading about it, invokes a number of childhood fascinations.

I have not had the chance to smell this lovely fragrance before
