Before Steven reviews Gentleman’s Nod Courant Éternel, I asked Creative Director Chris Christiansen about his inspiration and on this eve of Mother’s Day (May 10, 2025), his dedication is to the important women in his life and to his faith.

Gentleman’s Nod Courant Éternel

Gentleman’s Nod Courant Éternel

Courant Éternel is a very special and personal fragrance for me. The scent itself is inspired by my very first scent memory. It was created to reproduce not just the scent but the entire experience of exploring a seaside garden as a young child. Courant Éternel is a tribute to the love of God. His providence in bringing people into our lives. In this case, my mother, grandmother, and my wife. The name itself comes from an old hymn. “Underneath me, all around me is the CURRENT of His love, leading onward, leading homeward to His glorious rest above.”-Chris Christiansen of Gentlemen’s Nod

I love the idea of a fragrance inspired byfirst scent memory of a seaside garden. I like how Steven mentioned that it is mass appealing and completely unisex. I love that fact that rhubarb is in the notes, since it’s a personal favorite note of mine. I live in Maryland USA and would love to win of Courant Eternal Parfum.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the entire paragraph written by Chris Christiansen, thoroughly. The video got me interested in the raspberry aspect. US

I felt that Chris’s introduction provided the artistic vision behind Patricia Choux’s creation, while Steven’s review acted as a consumer’s guide, detailing the wearability and overall appeal of the fragrance. Both their assessments seemed to align, suggesting a well-conceived and beautifully executed perfume. From the US

It was interesting to see how both Chris and Steven highlighted the natural and evocative aspects of Courant Éternel. Chris’s description created a sense of place, while Steven’s articulation of the salty air, floral nuances, and perhaps a touch of earthiness, brought that place vividly to life. Their combined perspectives make the scent sound truly unique. from US

I am so intrigued by the description of this fragrance. I would love a chance to visualize Chris’s memories by scent. Steve’s description of the scent being unisex but he would love to smell it on a woman. I love masculine leaning fragrances. The raspberry note sounds beautiful!!

  • The way Chris introduced the fragrance, emphasizing its enduring quality, and how Steven then described its development on the skin, noting the evolution of the ‘seaside garden’ notes, was particularly insightful. It suggests a perfume with both a strong initial impression and a captivating dry-down, something that resonates with many fragrance enthusiasts. From the US

  • Ramses Perez says:

A very specific moment in time captured in a scent. I can see how this was the inspiration as I don’t think many other houses have a concept such as a seaside garden in their repertoire. With the help of notes like raspberry and rhubarb this one sounds very intriguing to me. I can see why Steven mentioned he gets a watery vibe, after all it’s what the fragrance it’s after; but also a jungle scent. I’d love to try this scent as it’s a very innovative concept. I’m located in the USA.

  • This sounds incredible. I don’t think, I’ve ever tried a fragrance with rhubarb and herbs. Steven has an uncanny ability to make you want fragrances, you never thought you’d try. The fact he said it would be great on a woman several times, makes me really want it. I would love to take a journey to the jungle side.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

The uniqueness of this fragrance, as well as, the note breakdown have really captured my attention. However, the inspiration is the anchor, holding me captive and making it a MUST for me to experience this latest from Gentleman’s Nod. Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms out there 🙂

Unique fragrances are hard to come by sometimes and I’m happy to hear Steven describe this as such. From what little I know of Gentleman’s Nod, this is the first femme leaning fragrance I’ve heard of from them. I do love Steven’s enthusiasm with this one and it makes me really intrigued. The inspiration of this perfume is quite lovely and can be easily understood by many. I’m a Redolessence subscriber and Cafleurebon follower. I live in Oregon.

  • I appreciated how Chris’s introduction offered a conceptual framework for understanding the perfume’s inspiration, and then Steven’s review provided the actual olfactory details. It was like Chris gave us the ‘why’ behind the fragrance, and Steven illustrated the ‘what’ and the emotional impact it had on him. The synergy between their insights was quite compelling. From the US

  • What struck me is how both Chris and Steven, in their respective styles, converged on the idea of this fragrance being more than just a scent; it’s an experience. Chris’s literary approach hinted at a journey, while Steven’s visual and olfactory descriptions made that journey feel tangible, almost as if you could smell the sea air and blooming flowers yourself.

  • I was so touched by the Chris Christansen’s spirtual connection to the scent profile. An ode to to the glory of god’s beautiful earth.
Steven’s video broke down the notes wonderfully and made me so intrigued. I share his love of novel/interesting fragrances and I would love to get my nose on it!

  • Steven’s description of the vegetal elements enhancing the watery jasmine is appealing to me, as a total jasmine head who loves to experience different aspects of this gorgeous flower. This curiosity is further enhanced by Chris’s introduction: his memory of a garden by the sea as the foundation of this fragrance. I am in MA, USA.

  • Chris description feels like nod that a seaside garden gives to the divine and beautiful. Steven descriptor of how different this is with a tasteful raspberry and mass appeal draws me to this. I live in the USA.

  • Interesting that it has jungle notes and tomato leaves. Would be interesting to smell as well. Love Steven’s descriptions of the fragrance. Usa

  • I like this inspiration and hope to see more of this kind in other houses too. The salty air note sounds so intriguing. I like earthy fragrances and I think this one will be a keeper for me. I am located in the U.S. thank you for a generous giveaway.

  • carrie_earle says:

I like that Chris designed this as a tribute to the providence of people being put into our lives.

I like that Steven reviewed this as being unintentionally sensual and even though it is entirely unisex he’d love to smell this on a woman.

  • I love how Chris Christiansen’s inspiration came from his love of God and the women in his life. A seaside garden sounds so beautiful. My Mom grew dill, raspberries and dill in her garden. Steven mentioned a “jungle aura”, which caught my attention. Thanks for another fantastic review and draw. MI USA

  • Kensolfactoryodyssey says:

What struck me about Chris Christiansen’s introduction is how deeply personal and spiritual Courant Éternel is. It’s not just a fragrance—it’s a living memory of childhood, a hymn in scent form, and a heartfelt tribute to the women who shaped him. That kind of emotional and spiritual grounding is rare in perfumery and makes the scent feel like a sacred offering.

Steven’s review highlighted the unique balance of aromatic herbs, vibrant fruit, and watery greens. I was especially intrigued by how he described the tomato leaf and rhubarb interplay—how it kept the fragrance fresh yet grounded. His passion for the scent made it clear this is something both original and evocative.

Thank you to ÇaFleureBon, Steven, and Gentleman’s Nod for the opportunity.

  • Courant Eternel sounds like a lovely homage to the divine imprint involved in the important relationships in one’s life. The inspiration from the old hymn works perfectly for a scent in honor of our mothers. From Steven’s review, the salty air combined with flowers and earthiness brings the seaside garden concept to life. MD, USA.

  • teatreesoil says:

chris’s introduction was very helpful for me, both in understanding the intention behind the fragrance as well as the name (i wasn’t familiar with the hymn)– a lot of fragrance houses don’t explain the decision making around names, so it’s a fun little peek into this fragrance that sounds very appealing. and i always appreciate stephen’s reviews! black pepper isn’t a note that i love, but it sounds like it’s well balanced here. i agree that raspberry does seem to be increasingly popular in fragrances lately… well i’m loving that! raspberry has a lovely bit of tartness to it, which sounds like it pairs wonderfully with the more herbal notes here. really cool fragrance.. i have to get my hand on a sample soon!

thanks for the write-up & review video & giveaway! from VA, USA

  • Courant Éternel sounds like a perfect spring fragrance with its portrait of a verdant garden. I like that Patricia focused on tomato leaf and raspberry, a combination I’ve enjoyed in other products, but not woven into such a complex fragrance. Chris mentioned he wanted the fragrance to picture a “seaside garden”; rhubarb can contribute a watery quality, so it’s an intriguing choice here, especially alongside sharp herbal notes like dill and currant. Steven highlighted the raspberry, “watery jasmine”, and “white floral heart”. I also enjoyed his comments about vegetal notes like tomato leaf, rhubarb, and black pepper—I enjoy those in strong concentrations, but I’m glad they’re well balanced here. I’d love to try Courant Éternel.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Chris’s introduction was sweet. Based on the notes alone this sounds terrible but after watching the review I’m interested. I’m getting the impression from the video that there is some confusion concerning what Jungle Essence™ actually is so I’ve copied the following quote from the MANE flavor and fragrance house website for everyone who might not already know about Jungle Essence™. I’m in the USA

“This revolutionary extraction technology provides an eco-friendly solution to produce extracts of exceptional quality and purity, maintaining the olfactive properties of the original raw materials. Jungle Essence™ allows us to obtain sample-sized extractions of odorous molecules, which can then be recreated at industrial production levels. Small, easy to use and nomadic in structure, it has countless applications, ranging from natural to manufactured products. Jungle Essence™ captures scents and tastes, such as that of a fruit or candy, and uses it to generate an oil that embodies the original product’s aroma. Our production unit within our Le Bar-sur-Loup headquarters is specifically dedicated to the art of extraction using supercritical fluids. Through use of this inimitable extraction tool, we can allow Perfumers’ and Flavourists’ creativity to truly flourish in their creation of unexpected scents.”

Steven makes this sound really unique. I’d love to experience seaside garden notes. Refreshing that someone acknowledges their faith in their inspiration. I love tomato leaf scents! Not sure I’ve ever smelled dill in a fragrance before. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I loved Chris’s tribute, bringing people into our lives! Timing is always important, and the wisdom gained from these associations. Steven always describes how the fragrance develops on the skin artistically. I am in the USA.
