Michael Schrammel of For The Scent of it

“For the Scent of It Lucid Dreams, began after awaking from a dream where an extraterrestrial race of perfumers visited us to share their knowledge in perfumery. Each perfumer, a master of a specific ingredient; Oud, Tonka Bean, etc. When I awoke, I wrote down what would later become Lucid Dreams. I created each Lucid Dream to not just focus on a specific note but lift and surround that note in a dreamy atmosphere. Each Lucid Dream is a lasting 30% Parfum concentration using some of the finest ingredients in my organ. Dreaming in Oud is one of the first two Dreams in the collection. As we know, there are many Oud fragrances out there. So, for Dreaming in Oud, I wanted to create something that was not only unique, but also warm and wearable. Truly, one of my proudest creations to date.” – Michael Schrammel, Owner & Perfumer at For the Scent of It Perfumes

  • I recently tried both of Michael’s Lucid Dreams fragrances and, wow, they are rich! Dreaming in Oud is spicy, warm, and resinous as you would expect from an oud-based scent. Like, Steven said, though, there is an undeniable waxy and smooth element to the fragrance that makes is so cozy and comforting. Michael mentioned being very proud of this creation and he has every right to be. It’s so classy and refined. It’s a wonderful scent and is on my “short-list” of scents I would love to have in my collection. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

P.S.- Do not sleep on it’s sister frag, Dreaming in Tonka. It’s equally fantastic and is easily one of the best tonka-based scents I have tried in several years.

  • Ramses Perez says:

Michael is truly one of a kind to concoct a fragrance just based on a dream, don’t think I’ve ever had a dream like that. Also, looking at Steven’s video, love the bottle, very minimalistic and concrete. Carrot seeds is an interesting note for sure and I wonder what it’ll smell like on this fragrance. Cheers from NJ, USA. Also, support small businesses!

  • This profile sounds right up my alley. Looking forward to sampling it and supporting a small perfuming business.

  • I got a sample of this one and I must say it is remarkable. It is a soft, creamy oud with a touch of sweetness that is very wearable.
I agree with Steven that there is more Iris than rose in the fragrance. I loved his dream and being visited by extraterrestrial perfumers. What an experience that must have been. Beautiful creation Michael. I am in the USA.

  • Ryan Frazier says:

I liked my experiance of Epice Fern from the house, I enjoyed in Michael’s dream that he learned from the master perfumers in his dream, and upon waking up he brought that dream into reality. I am a fan of Iris and redolessence description of the quality of the notes adding different elements of sweetness without being overbearing seemed to me like a lovely high quality oud fragrance I could wear freely.

  • I’ve been on my ouds and sandlewood combos starting with dark aoud. This peaked my interest once I saw there’s no rose and its going in a different direction with the tonka. I imagine it being sweet, musky, and powdery far in the drydown. Steven showed love in an unbiased review of this and it sounds like something to look into as a winter weather go-to. When he said the balance was right where it borders gourmand but stays at bay. Hoping to win, from Jacksonville NC.

  • What sparked my interest in Steven’s video is how he mentioned the oud(in the form of Co2) is not animalic, rough or overpowering but rather smooth and easy to wear fragrance. Michael Schrammel mentioned how for Dreaming in Oud he wanted to create something that was unique as well as warm and wearable definitely fitting for the lower temperatures during the Fall and Winter season. Thank you for the opportunity. Followed on Instagram. Handle is Frankieg74. New York, USA.

  • Not only does the presentation look amazing but the notes in this sound like it’ll smell good based on the review. Michael makes high quality fragrances, so I have no doubt this smells amazing as well!

For The Scent of It is one of my favorite Indie finds in recent years. I own 5 from this house with “Wasteland Warrior” being my favorite not only from this house but in my top 20 for life. Considering my collection is 700+ fragrances strong, this hold a special place in my olfactive heart. What has really captured my attention is that Dreaming in Oud is one of Michael’s “proudest creations to date”… This is one that I’m looking forward to experiencing soon 🙂

I met Michael at a Farmer’s Market in Greenfield. He was super friendly and loved talking fragrance with me. I smelled the entire collection. Bought Créme de Bergamot right away and came back a few weeks later to buy Wasteland Warrior. I’ve been wanting to try the Lucid Dreams collection. Best wishes Michael!

  • AromaDulce73 says:

Like how Michael got the idea for this fragrance Dreaming in Oud from an actual dream. Pretty cool.

Steven mentions in his video how this fragrance/fragrance house uses high level ingredients. It’s always good when a fragrance house cares about the ingredients they use when creating their fragrances. Look forward to trying a few from For the Scent of It.

  • Beautiful presentation and I love the fact that good ingredients were used to make this masterpiece. Steven description of this fragance make it really exciting and I can’t wait to try it

  • From the written intro I found out the inspiration for this new collection came from a dream. From the video I was sparked by hearing more iris than rose. US

  • I like how Michael Schrammel describes his whole collection as not just focusing on specific notes, but pairing them to lift and elevate each scent in his “dreamy atmosphere”. The standouts for Redolessence where the carrot seed and iris notes which I’m a big fan of.

  • I just went on For the Scent of Its Site and am thinking of buying blacker sails. He’s very talented and I am glad to see him get some exposure.I think it is great Steven mentioned the iris
An extraterrestrial race of perfumers is fascinating as a dream
    Hope He does sandalwood

  • I really appreciate Michael Schrammel’s approach to composition. Taking inspiration from a lucid dream certainly shows a willingness to innovate and think outside the box which is sorely lacking in the land of flankers. Dreaming in Oud uses a fairly ubiquitous fragrance note and weaves a dreamy atmosphere using some excellent quality supporting notes. MD, USA.

  • Hello from Florida, and thanks to Steven for the review and Michael for the introduction! I’m following your instagram from my account @castlemicro.

Dreaming in Oud sounds like it truly embraces the iconic note of oud. I’d love to give this inventive scent a try!

  • How cool to have a dream lead to wonderful fragrances! I wonder how aliens smell? Steven’s video definitely made me think this would be a good one to try; all the notes sound wonderful and the combination makes me think of winter holidays. His review also got me hoping that none of the currently popular superambers is involved. Soft creamy, smooth, all this sounds good!

  • A creation from a dream works very well with this art form. The scent itself sounds amazing. I’m also interested in smelling the tonka scent. I’m really curious about the Co2 accord. Interesting into and video. New Jersey, USA

  • Aleisha Gomez says:

I think It is so awesome that you dedicated a video to such a small business. I actually purchased 21 candles and a discovery set yesterday (includes this fragrance in it). I want To start supporting more small, up and coming fragrance houses, myself. I really enjoyed your breakdown on YouTube. Appreciate your hard work!

  • Fantastic review by the one and only Steven and great Michael’s introduction.
For the Scent Of It really nailed this fragrance. Lucid Dreams Dreaming in Oud is just amazing. The iris, carrot seed make this so special. The sweetness, creaminess make a perfect combination with this fragrance.
I also love that this is a longlasting fragrance with a great projection.
I hope I win this one

  • Darn….I read this a day too late for the Small Business Sale. Creamy, smooth and waxy got my attention. Compared to Feve Deliceious is quite a complement. Good longevity is always a plus. Michael’s dream was sure interesting. Obviously he has passion for his work. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I already enjoy Michael’s Oud Cafe, and Lucid Dreams Dreaming in Oud sounds like it might be even better for the winter season, with it’s addition of spice and warm vanilla-tonka-benzoin base. I’m glad Michael noted in his introduction how he tried to differentiate this oud fragrance from the many others out there. It’s certainly an original theme. Steven pointed out in his review that this fragrance uses high-quality ingredients—many that are both sweet and creamy—which is a nice counterpart to the dry and woody Oud Cafe. I’m also happy to hear that the agarwood here isn’t snarling or bawdy, since I find smooth oud much easier to wear. And the orange in the opening sounds like a nice touch. Hope to try this soon.

I’m in the USA. I follow @cafleurebonofficial on Instagram as @mmerline. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Great review by Michael and Steven. Overall Lucid Dreaming in oud sounds like a versatile fragrance without a heavy sweetness or animalistic that you normally see with fragrances that have sandalwood. Really interested in the rose and iris’ impact on the overall scent over time, and glad to see For The Scent Of it getting more recognition.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Steven’s video review and Michael Schrammel’s introduction of For the Scent of It Lucid Dreams Dreaming in Oud. I’m intrigued by that waxy opening of Iris and Carrot Seed. The warm spicy Cardamom and Cinnamon sound divine with a sweet and creamy Vanilla and Sandalwood. I like the comparison to Feve Delicieuse with the prominent note of Tonka Bean. This sounds like a high quality Oud and Tonka masterpiece. Michael is a brilliant artisan perfumer from Wisconsin, USA. I’m following @cafleurebonofficial my instagram handle is @michaelprincefragrances I am from Ohio, USA.

  • MatthewKeilwitz says:

An actual evolution of sweet notes sounds intriguing. Many fragrances seem to leave most of the development to everything that isn’t vanilla or tonka. Creamy sandlewood and buttery oak to ground everything. I’ll toss my hat in the ring one more time.

  • I like the idea of using dreams to inspire scent creation. So often the subconscious helps us to solve problems and figure situations out, so I am impressed that Mr. Schrammel has called up his dreams to influence his work.
I enjoyed Steven’s description, and am particularly curious about how carrot seed has affected the composition. He seemed to suggest that it plays a big role in it.
Even before Steven mentioned it, I thought, “This sounds like a great scent for winter.” And I like the idea of a gentle oud.

  • I purchased the sample set of the Dreaming Collection b/c I was looking for Tonka bean fragrances this fall! It was the variety of sweetness contributors and the use of carrot seed! Although Oud is in the name it is not the typical gotcha snif! I have mixed the two to together it was so Sexy delicious like eyes rolled back in your had amazing! Once again Michael has done it again!

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review on this perfumer Steven!

Really interesting perception on the waxiness being due to either iris or carrot seed. I do think that having that facet with the Oud makes for a really interesting Oud fragrance. It’s also nice to see an Oud fragrance that is cozy and welcoming – looking forward to giving this a try.

Michelyn’s introduction to Michael and his introduction of the scent are a good read and helps us understand where the perfumer is coming from for this scent.

    Cheers from WI, USA

I love most all Tonka scents I’ve tried. This perfume sounds marvelous!
Sandi, you have such beautiful prose!
I’d love to smell a jasmine/incense perfume; sweet, but with an ever so slight incense base.
    I’m in the US.
    Thank you so much!
