For the Scent of It Dream

The idea for the new Lucid Dreams perfumes began after a real dream…I was standing on the edge of a field surrounded by trees. Meteors were raining down from the sky like tears of fire. One meteor crashed into a tree in an explosion of smoke and cinders. When the smoke cleared, I walked closer. This was no meteor. Where the tree once stood was now a tall, human-like woman wrapped in a gold shroud. She began to speak. She said she was part of a small race of perfumers that have come to earth to share their knowledge of perfumery. Each one of them a master who creates all of their perfumes around a specific ingredient. From this dream, I awoke and wrote down what would become Lucid Dreams. Each perfume centered around an ingredient in a dreamy light using the finest materials, with 30 percent parfum concentration.” -Michael Schrammel, perfumer

From a dream to the manifestation of remarkable quality, For The Scent of It Dreaming in Tonka takes your imagination to a much higher realm, wrapping you in a cloak of transparent lame’ with an array of metallic threads woven through it, creating an otherworldly light beacon and a fringe-edged with bourbon, vetiver, amber, sandalwood, and tonka bean leaving an irresistible aromatic trail lingering behind you. This trail evokes a sense of calm and relaxation, with the addition of sandalwood and vetiver, which enhances it. I love tonka bean in perfumery, and I find it interesting that an entire line of fragrances was inspired by a real dream. I live in Maryland USA.

  • My interest was sparked by the inclusion of the sarsaparilla note. I’d like to see a perfume centered around immortelle. US

  • It’s a good thing that I don’t make perfumes based on my dreams, which are definitely nowhere near as beautiful as what Michael described that he had for this particular perfume. If he could center a perfume around an ingredient that I would particularly like, it would probably be freshly mowed grass – like Gap’s Grass but amped up with clover, and golden sunshine. I’m in the U.S.

I know the point of any description is to make the product sound good, but dang this sounds like the best perfume I’ve ever heard of in my life. It sounds so elegant and nice. As for what ingredient should be used next, I say coffee, so many ideas can come from that note

  • Kelly Atwood says:

Oh my goodness this sounds divine!! I love the inspiration behind this and have yet to hear of this house until now!

  • I love Michael’s work and it’s always exciting to see what he’s working on next. I have tried the first two releases in his Lucid Dreams line so far, and while both are good, Dreaming in Tonka is extra special. As Sandy pointed out, it possesses a wonderfully calming aura. It’s one of those fragrances that feels like a warm hug. I also appreciate the level of spice in it. It has just enough cinnamon to make it pop, but without taking it too far into the gourmand realm. It’s a wonderful fragrance and is certainly on my full bottle list. I’m eager to see what his newest creation, Rose to Nowhere is like. I’m also thrilled to know the Lucid Dream line will continue and that incense is a note he has been toying with. As a lover of all things incense (the church-i-er, the better), I hope we will get a fragrance that focuses on that sacred scent. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

Just being able to transform a dream into a scent is super interesting and creative. The combo of bourbon and amber is amazing. I have been blessed to sample this one and would love a full bottle for my small yet humble collection. I would like to see/smell a Dreaming in Incense.

    Los Angeles Ca. USA

  • Ooh I am so excited to try this!! I’ve been a huge fan of his for a few years now. Judging by how great his stone note was in his Stone Roses I would love one around wet rocks/stone. I also would love one around Champaca/magnolia. And I’ll be greedy and ask for one around Carnation too.
I love the dream too how amazing??
Thank you for the chance to win, in California.

  • I’m so curious about the cinnamon note in this! I’d love to see a simple and universal type of food item— like rice or bread- be elevated into a scent in this series.
    NY, US.

  • neal_buatti says:

Dreams can be both a way of coping with the day’s events but also a gaze into the persons past trauma. Very interesting note breakdown, Sarsaparilla CO2 really stands out. I have heard a lot about how CO2 gives you a very clean sent.

I live in the US in the state of PA

  • What I loved about Sandy review is how she talked about relaxation and how Dreaming in Tonka takes you to a higher realm. I live in the USA

  • Intriguing story on the Lucid dream. This definitely is sample worthy. Tonka is a great note to focus on, would love to try a tobacco one fromnthe house. Very curious on the Sarsaspirilla. I live in the US

  • coldleafdog says:

I like this review very much & I’m drawn, as always, to the specificity of the descriptions — I love this sense of a transparent lamé cloak & an array of metallic threads being at play in this fragrance. It’s something that I read & I know it will influence how I smell the perfume. I would look for this coldness, this delicacy in the bergamot, the sarsaparilla, maybe the rose — I’ve never tried Michael’s work & I would love to have this bottle.
I would be interested in a perfume centered on pomegranate — in all of its tartness & richness. I think it’s an ingredient which has a very bodily but also mythical, dreamlike quality.
    I live in MA, USA.

  • Dreaming in Tonka sounds like the perfect fragrance to wear while snuggling. I would love to experience an incense scent from Michael. That Sarsaparilla note piqued my interest. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • Dreams are intimate and personal, and have the potential to reveal much about ourselves. I appreciate this perfumer ‘s transparency in sharing how his dreams have informed his art, and would be fascinated to sample a reflection of this of such quality as Sandi describes. I have not sampled any of Michael’s creations, but would be curious how he would interpret the accord of marigold in his perfumes… an oft underrated but joyful note, in my opinion. Thank you for this generous draw. I live in NH , USA

  • I’ve enjoyed quite a few scents from this house. I have gotten them for my husband. I would love to try this. What a great concept. Can’t wait to see what other scents come from these extraterrestrial perfumers. In maryland

  • Dreaming in Tonka sounds like a sophisticated gourmand with notes of spice, almonds and sasparilla which always reminds me of root beer. The base of bourbon, vetiver, amber, sandalwood and tonka bean sounds creamy, sweet and woody. I would love for Michael to focus on iris/orris for a future entry in this series. I’m in the US.

  • Thank you Sandi for the review and it’s quite intriguing to read about the inspiration and progression of the idea. Mine is crazy but I’d love to see a fragrance centered on tarragon which I’ve experienced in perfumes but not as a centerpiece. I’m in TX USA

  • How the perfume leaves an irresistible aromatic trail with the inclusion of bourbon, vetiver, amber, sandalwood, and tonka evoking a sense of calm and relaxation sounds dreamlike. I’m a big lavender fan and to see lavender utilized in a future composition by Michael in all its different variants(English, French, Spanish, Dutch, etc.)would be awesome. Thank you for the opportunity. New York, USA.

  • Matthew Dutton says:

Tonka bean has a complex, sweet, and natural aroma. It’s a mix of nutty, herbaceous, woody, and spicy notes. I’d like to see how this fragrance stacks up.

  • Dreaming and perfume seem to go together in artistic influenece like yin and yang, actually. Though I have to say the spiced almond notes REALLY piqued my interest! I’d love to see a Palo Santo treated with the dreams and visions approach!

  • That is quite a dream!! I can rarely remember my dreams and they would create rather strange fragrances……what does that feeling of falling really smell like? Those notes sound amazing. Hoping Michael has many fantastic dreams to create by. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • recursivemask says:

This sounds like such an ethereal perfume. Personally I’d love to see a spice centered perfume from michael, focusing on the woody and resinous side. I’m in the US.

  • I think it is fantastic that this fragrance’s origin points back to a dream. The relaxing aura that this scent provides seems like something I would really enjoy and the notes all sound delightful. I live in CT, US.

  • Wow, what a magnificent dream to experience! I find that so fascinating it’s what inspired him to create a perfume line from it. I’m quite intrigued by this perfume house and just love the notes. I plan to explore this house more in depth.
    I live in Pennsylvania.

  • I love the idea of each fragrance being centered on one note at extrait levels. Maybe a tobacco or green focus next? USA

  • Lisa Collins says:

These notes interest me Spiced Almonds, Lavender, and Sarsaparilla CO2…wow I can’t wait to smell that!

  • FragranceIsMe says:

I love how michael is “Following His Dreams” 🙂 Such a beautiful inspiration. A scent that evokes calm and relaxation has my name all over it.
I’d be interested in this house offering offering “Dreaming in Amber”
    USA

  • Both of the Lucid Dreams fragrances are rich compositions, but the dry, nutty, aromatic-warming-hay qualities of Dreaming in Tonka give it an interesting character. Sandi pointed out the bourbon and amber in her review; I think they’re what a significant contributor that richness. I also like Dreaming in Tonka never reads as saccharine. Thanks for the review—would love to win a bottle.

I’m in the USA. A vetiver-focused fragrance could be a logical addition to the Dreaming series, but I’m curious about Michael’s take on a bold blueberry note.

  • thee_boy_wonder says:

This has some of my favorite notes! Rose, Amber, sandalwood, spice+almonds!!! Sounds like a dream for sure! So poetic! I’m in Pennsylvania, US.

  • Sherin Thomas says:

love the inspiration behind this and have yet to hear of this house until now! From PA, USA

  • foreverscents says:

Dreaming in Tonka sound absolutely heavenly. I love all the notes in
the fragrance and the spiced almond note sounds delicious. i think I would wear this fragrance both when i am out and about and when i am just about to go to bed. i love wearing fragrances with tonka and bourbon to bed.
i would love to see what Michael could do with white flowers like tuberose.
    I live in the USA.

  • Never heard about this brand before, always open to learn about new stuff in parfumerie.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the nice review. I do like the idea of lucid dreams being given an interpretation as a fragrance.

Michael has used a super interesting set of notes to give life to this lucid dream. The heaviness of tonka is broken by such an interesting mix of cinnamon, spiced almonds, lavender and sasparilla I can imagine several complementary and constrasting facets.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Michael Prince says:

What interests me about Sandi’s review of Dreaming in Tonka is that I love the note of Tonka and along with Cinnamon, Lavender, and Spiced Almonds it sounds truly divine. I am also intrigued by that Metallic smell Sandi descibed…possibly from the almonds. I would love to see Michael center his next series of fragrances around Cognac or some other boozy note. I am from the USA.
