Floral Street Arizona Bloom Review (Jerome Epinette) 2020 +  Desert Flower Draw

Floral Street Arizona Bloom review

I have always had wanderlust, ever since I can remember. The western part of the United States particularly appealed to me, with its vast, majestic landscapes, tumultuous crashing ocean, and expanses of wild space. I was also attracted to the West because it felt like opportunity: to be anything or anyone I wanted to be; to determine my own destiny. The West was the concept of freedom…even the dry desert air, being unencumbered by humidity, seemed more optimistic and freer.

So, in May 1989, I signed up to join the United States Air Force. I remember the moment I read my orders for my posting after basic training: Monterey, California. My heart jumped into my throat; I lost my breath for a second…my dream is realized…I was going to CALIFORNIA!!! Once I lived in California, I fell deeply in love with it, but especially with the desert. Living in California gave me the opportunity to explore more of the West – and Arizona was the manifestation of what I had seen in my dreams. I traveled every chance I got to as many spots as I could – every place I went, I felt awash with the same rush of adventure, freedom and awe. I remember once just stopping my car on the side of the road and watching in wonder the sky change colors for an hour, a dazzling lightshow of every color in the entire spectrum, spread across the entire crystal-clear, cloudless, wide desert sky.

Floral Street Arizona Bloom captures this feeling EXACTLY for me. When I first inhaled that initial spray, all the intense emotions of standing under that vast, open sky with the dry air around me came rushing back. Arizona Bloom is a complete ATMOSPHERE. Floral Street is a multi-award-winning, independent, British brand, founded by Michelle Feeney. They are a collection of clean, ethical, sustainable, fragrances with 100% reusable, compostable, and recyclable packaging which is an industry-first. But you will want to probably keep the packaging – it’s so incredibly beautiful – some of the prettiest packaging I have received in YEARS! They are also vegan, cruelty-free and accredited by PETA.

“As the founder of an independent, British brand I am thrilled our Floral Street Arizona Bloom won Best Independent Fragrance at the prestigious UK Fragrance Foundation Awards – the Oscars of the industry! It is amazing recognition for our creative innovation in sustainable scent.” Michelle Feeney, Floral Street Founder

In Floral Street Arizona Bloom, the combination of salted musks, oak moss, cashmere woods and black pepper create what I would call a ‘Sand accord’ – both the pre-sunrise kind of sand, cool from the moon, stars and night and the hot, sparkling, crusty, sunbaked kind of sand. There is also the mineralic scent of heated rocks, shining with a beautiful black patina. You get a sense of the vast expanse of time – the eons, the epochs, the ages – this rock has taken to achieve this shiny black tattoo patina from the sun, so gloriously shiny in that sun. There is also a delicious, ethereal coconut note– This coconut note is not a heavy, sweet, vanillic suntan lotion or coconut cream pie coconut note. This coconut note is more akin to the wooden husky outer shell, that is cracked to reveal the watery fleshy interior of a fresh coconut. That fleshy, watery coconut note is only the slightest bit sweet and made airier by the oak moss.

The dry yet lush, vegetal coconut note also works together with the fig leaves and jasmine to honor the delicate scent of desert flora – the same delicate sweetness and lightness of fragile desert blooms.  This combination replicates for me the full desert air in spring and summer, when everything is blooming, ardent and energized from rain, so happy to be alive.  These plants are all around you in the desert, even if you don’t notice them at first glance.  They might have a repellant, intimidating look, but that doesn’t coincide with the alluring beauty of their scent.

Countless species blooming, sending into the warm air their intoxicating scents, together with the sandy, salty, airy notes in Arizona Bloom smell like ADVENTURE to me. Master Perfumer Jerome Epinette has created a transportive, all-encompassing atmosphere of infinite possibilities with Arizona Bloom, that I can’t wait to wear on my next adventure.  Like these bursting plants, I also feel an optimistic happiness while wearing Arizona Bloom:  happiness for the day, tomorrow, life…And thankful optimism – that life is a true gift to be relished, and good things are to come.

Notes:  Balinese Coconut, Madagascan Black Pepper, Oak Moss, Salted Musks, Jasmine Petals, Fig leaves, Cashmere Woods.

Disclosure: I’d like to thank Floral Street for the beautiful bottle of Arizona Bloom; The opinions are my own.

I own another scent with Arizona-type naming and imagery, and it’s a favorite. I can’t wait to try this one to see how it compares! I love the scent profile. I love the idea of wanderlust, and even though it’s not in my nature to be adventurous, I do love travel and exploring new places. The description made me think of how it feels to travel somewhere new and be overwhelmed by it’s beauty and how different it is from my hometown. I don’t have a favorite Floral Street perfume.
    In Louisiana USA.

  • The pictures and the vivid description of the Western desert appealed to me in Cynthia’s review of Floral Street Arizona Bloom. A perfume that can create the memories of Western landscapes and feeling of freedom is amazing. Curious what a sand accord smells like. Besides, it is great to know that Floral Street adheres to clean, sustainable practices and are vegan and cruelty free. Congratulations to Michelle Feeney for winning the UK Fragrance Foundation Awards 2021 – Best Independent Fragrance. Unfortunately, I have not tried a Floral Street perfume, yet. Appreciate the draw and review. I am from the USA.

  • Floral Street Arizona has such wonderful notes. The idea of capturing the desert sunshine, Sand all in one is brilliant. The beautiful landscape and freedom. Congratulations on Winning the UK Fragrance foundation award. I have not had the chance to try a Fragrance from this house. Thank you for this Chance. USA

  • I saw this one recently, now I will have to go back and try it! Cynthia makes it sound very unique if you can combine a sand accord with coconut successfully then it must be good! Wonderful review! US

  • The imagery that Cynthia uses is extraordinary – her history in California has clearly given her a unique perspective on the fragrance. It sounds incredible, and I’d love to get the chance to understand how Cynthia feels about this scent. I’m in Pittsburgh.

  • Cynthia had me feeling as though I was in the midst of the desert. Interesting fragrance. Great article. USA

  • Thank you for this review, Cynthia. I can understand the wanderlust. That feeling of exploration, freedom, and adventure is unbeatable. I look forward to hitting the road again soon. In the meantime, how wonderful that Floral Street Arizona Bloom captures that feeling. And the bottle is gorgeous! I can’t wait to try perfume from this house – yet another on my list I’m hoping to get my hands on soon. ~ Indiana, USA.

  • This sounds amazing! I am always looking to try new perfumes that are unique. This has captured my imagination!
I am particularly impressed by this company’s environmental views and practices. We need more of that in the perfume world!

  • OH wow. I loved Cynthia’s description and interpretation of the desert. The desert of the American Southwest is a magical place. I haven’t ever heard of Floral Street before, but will be finding out all that I can now.

  • I enjoyed Cynthia’s review of Arizona Bloom and the Adventure side of the fragrance. It makes me want to travel. I have been thinking about a discovery set from Floral Street and now I will go for it. I have smelled Wild Vanilla Orchid and it was beautiful. Congratulations to Floral Street and Michelle Feeney for the nominations and award. USA

  • I really enjoyed the description of the fragrance and how it ressemble of the Western in US. I have gone to Arizona twice and I really enjoyed its vegetation and the mix of natural fragrances. I don´t have a favourite Floral Street Perfume, but I woul.d love to try this

  • Arizona Bloom is sounds perfect for all of us who are still dreaming of going somewhere new. Seeing new things and meeting new people is what I’m looking forward to. I really liked that Cynthia mentioned the optimistic feel of this fragrance. I haven’t yet had the chance to try a Floral Street fragrance so I would be happy to win this one. Thanks for the chance. In the USA,

  • Omg I need to try this fragrance. I love all of the notes in Arizona Bloom and how Cynthia describes it. The smell of California and Arizona, desert and mineral notes in combination with florals and husky coconut and even fig! That sounds so transportive and absolutely my kind of fragrance. Big plus that this brand has a completely recyclable packaging! I’ve never heard of this brans so I don’t have any favorites yet, but I’m super interested to try them now! I have to check out the full fragrance line. I’m from Illinois US, dreaming of hiking through Arizona landscapes.

  • The desert after a rainfall is a magical place. The scent of wood and flowers with the undercurrent of sandy soil seems magnified by the moisture in the air. The coconut is an interesting addition and one I wouldn’t necessarily associate with deserts but I can see how it would add a subtle sweetness and woodiness. I enjoyed Cynthia’s reminiscences of her experiences in Arizona. I’ve not tried any Floral Street fragrances before. I’m in MD, USA.

  • I enjoyed the details about the coconut note. Don’t have a fave from this house I’m just learning of. US

  • Cynthia! ❤️ What a beautiful review! I simply must try this perfume! What you write here just cannot be missed: “the combination of salted musks, oak moss, cashmere woods and black pepper create what I would call a ‘Sand accord’ – both the pre-sunrise kind of sand, cool from the moon, stars and night and the hot, sparkling, crusty, sunbaked kind of sand. There is also the mineralic scent of heated rocks, shining with a beautiful black patina. I love love mineral smells (like the mineral taste of Champagne’s Kimmeridgian soil and chalk (made of calcareous algae – a form of seaweed – and shells of tiny organisms that settled at the bottom of the Cretaceous seas). While I have not yet been fortunate enough to experience Floral Street perfumes, I must try Arizona Bloom! I also admire their ethical commitments & parameters. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! Good luck to all! USA ❤️

Fantastic review Cynthia! What I enjoyed about Cynthia’s review was reading about her memory of falling in love with the California dessert, the feeling of freedom, vastness, and open sky. I love how vivid her description is, and how beautiful a perfume that evokes such a memory and feeling that sounds to me.

I haven’ tried any Floral Street perfumes yet so I don’t have a favorite, but I suspect mine would most likely be Black Lotus. I live in the US.

  • What a lovely sounding fragrance. I am always up for an American adventure out west! I love many of the components and think it would be fun to try. In maryland.

  • Great review. The photos, the text, and the general vibe all make this review and this fragrance seem like a celebration of nature. Have yet to try anything from this house. But this one sounds great! Cheers from NC, USA.

What I enjoyed about Cynthia’s review is discovering this new brand Floral Street Perfume. I am very impressed by Fragrance Foundation Awards recipient Arizona Bloom and the use of ethical and sustainable materials as well as vegan, cruelty-free and accredited by PETA. I loved hearing Cynthia’s story about being in the Air Force and traveling to California and Arizona. I was in the Marines and I am now in the Air Force and I have been stationed in California and Arizona…I really loved th3 beautiful scenery too. I haven’t tried anything from Floral Street Perfume, but I think I would love Arizona Bloom with that Sand Accord, that vegetal coconut note, fig leaves, and Jasmine. I am from the USA.

  • I very much enjoyed reading about Cynthia’s wanderlust and adventures. Her description of the desert qualities of Arizona Bloom made me want to visit the desert–to just observe the colors, the light, and the fragrance. I am very intrigued by the coconut husk note in this fragrance.
I haven’t tried anything from Floral Street but I admire their commitment to sustainability.
    I live in Massachusetts.

Thanks for the great review Cynthia.

I checked out this brands website on reading the review and their eye for design is just fabulous, as evinced by the beautiful packaging on this bottle.

This fragrance sound absolutely lovely. The olfactory imagery evokes a sense of wanderlust in me. The beautiful coconut notes, salty musks and sand accords make me think of hammocking between coconut trees, by the beach with white sand, on a beautifully warm and sunny day, with the smell of salrt, seaweed and beach plants all around.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I’m very interested in trying this fragrance. I’m interested to see what the sand accord is like. I’ve never tried anything from this company, but I’d like to try all of their fragrance releases. I live in MD., U.S.A.
