Filippo Sorcinelli Haec Dies Review 2023 + This Day Giveaway

HAEC Dies Filippo Sorcinelli

Filippo Sorcinelli Haec Dies via the brand

It seems to have etched the end. Everything seemed to have happened quickly. There was chest thumping, everyone condemned, of running closed a chapter, Because Saturday was coming. Yet fear and awe are describing the unexpected, A precious bottle falls into a thousand pieces, It releases its aroma and speaks in silence. Yet we knew it. Death is not the last word. The stone rolled away, and with it. Turns my life upside down every day, It anoints my now sandy skin So that I can soil that linen With my inaccuracies. The now useless ointment frames an empty place. Rich. This is the wonder, THIS DAY.Filippo Sorcinelli

Filippo Sorcinelli and Danu – Straf Bar – Milan 2018

Each Esxence, the perfume event in Milan each spring offers an opportunity to reconnect with close friends and to attend events outside of the main fair and all its frenetic pace. So, it was in Milan this year when Filippo Sorcinelli proposed a few events to launch Haec Dies- Delire de Voyages Collection, one of his new releases for 2023. Haec Dies translated from the Latin means ‘This Day’. Its release was timed to coincide with the religious events of Easter within the Christian calendar but its message and influence extend wholly beyond that religious observance with a relevance that is very pertinent today.

Light on Stone – St Amand de Coly – Danu Seith-Fyr©

Easter within a Christian concept contains the themes of sacrifice and resurrection, yet also Easter contains more ancient origins, Eostre as the Goddess of rebirth and the renewal of nature as she wakens from repose. These interwoven themes reverberate through our history and psyches, we feel within ourselves a hope rising with the sap from the earth and the hope of an immortality written in the texts of so many faiths. A Christian promise yet it can be found in so many of the worlds belief systems. Springtide and the Easter rituals confer this ever-renewing hope to humanity even through the darkest times.

Here true to Filippo’s faith is a perfume infused with awe and grace and laced with stilled moments. Haec Dies serves to capture moments, suspended in its formula and etched into the fabric of time. It is the moment of discovery when the three Mary’s so prominent in the life of Jesus go to the tomb with the purpose of anointing his body, carrying with them a precious ointment of unctuous oils designed to sanctify, carried in reverence to the tombs entrance. Filippo Sorcinelli  Haec Dies is the encapsulation of this shock and awe as they realise the stone of the tomb is rolled away, burial cloths lay scattered and the tomb is empty. In their distress and realisation, the jar of anointing oil is dropped and shatters on the rocky ground.  The released aromas pervade the airs and mark this a profound revelation, that the miracle of resurrection is upon them.

Filippo Sorcinelli Haec Dies in its entirety is a universal solace, comforting and graceful it settles upon me like the encompassing embrace of a beloved. A taut string plucked in an instant and released to send reverberation’s out into the world.  In its tender divinity I am first taken aback by its initial brilliance of bergamot and orange with a tang of piercing cedarwood bringing me to that moment that flesh parted with the earth of pottery in astonishment and fear, the women startled by what they see.

This is the moment of parting suspended, the slow motion almost imperceptible, time-ripped descent of the vase, droplets of fear and doubt spilling to the sandy earth below releasing an astonished awe in its sundering. A jasmine of pure luminescence enrobed in a sublime vanilla as the visitation of an Angel, a sandalwood of earthy voluptuousness rises in vapours, gently dispersing the grief sodden airs in a transformation, heaviness lifted from shoulders as the perfume mingles with their spent tears. Here is the sum of their comprehension, the piecing together of the parts to make a whole, even as debris litters their feet. Diaphanous shards of light filter through its composition and assuage the gloom, I am permeated in all the joys of its floral heart, piercing my own and laying it open, in an ecstasy of understanding. In this one stilled moment death is overcome and sorrow is dissipated.

Within its tapestry, the very essence of sacred, precious woods and the resins of antiquity which rise in exaltation on the wings of its falling petals, shed as tears of joy. It is a perfume of transformation, of hope and faith in humanity.  It wears like a promise, that there is no end or beginning. That always within the darkest recesses there is Hope, it therefore triumphs in this descending season, cocooning me against the dark, blasting through in a triumphal entrance to renew our knowledge of the return.  It sits within my skin like a sanctified vestment, a layer of armour against a harshness, be it winter or the worlds troubles. In it wearing there is an uplifting exuberance, heralding the lines of Marks Gospel free of language barrier, creed or belief system.

  • You had me at awe and grace and stilled moments. I have never tried any in the range and would love to. I am in the U.K.

  • My favourite Filippo Sorcinelli which I also own is Epicentro. This aligns with my perfume taste well as I love the green notes in this. Also the exploration of destruction and rebirth in this perfume is powerful and I see a similar theme here exploring grieve and gloom but achieving hope and peace in trusting things will be alright. Love Danu’s review and experience and would love to try more of Sorcinelli! Marit UK

  • The sacred and precious wood notes of this masterpiece fragrance spark my interest. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I don’t have a favorite from Filippo Sorcinelli because I never tried the house but for sure the creations are wonderful and Haec Dies sounds like something magical and fascinating.

  • Wow, I’m speechless. What an amazing, poetic review! What sparks my interest about “Haec Dies” is Danu’s referring to it as “a perfume of transformation, of hope and faith in humanity.” This, alone, makes the world a better place!
I have never tried any of Filippo Sorcinelli creations and I live in Portugal, EU.

    Thank you All!

  • Danu’s article was absolutely poetic: “Filippo Sorcinelli Haec Dies in its entirety is a universal solace, comforting and graceful it settles upon me like the encompassing embrace of a beloved” spoke to me the most.
The sparkling citrus-cedarwood opening, followed by jasmine, vanilla and sandalwood and then deepened by resins and woods sounds classy, classic and absolutely delightful.
And a sample set by Filippo Sorcinelli would be the best present ever!

First time I’ve heard if this perfumer. Again, I’m reminded of how scent is so often associated with the soul. Particularly of how life was breathed into humans through their nose in Judeo/Chris faiths and tellings.

  • Beautiful message behind this fragrance. Let us embrace ‘this day’. I bet this fragrance would really capture the message of savoring the moment. Sounds mesmerizing. I am not familiar with this line. I’d love to test this one out. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Januarililjan says:

Danu writes very poetically, which made me very interested. The Woods and resins sound great. I have not tried anything from the brand before. Thanks. I live in the EU.

  • I’d spent years studying theology in school and teaching church history. The amount of references to aromas and various scents throughout the writings of all religious traditions is incalculable. In the western religious traditions certain aromas play a large role and different fragrances are meant to inspire certain memories and feelings. Often times the birth of Jesus is the focus of talk about fragrances, but at the burial chamber and this resurrection would have been a cacophony of scents. In the story the women would have walked into a tomb that would have had the remnants of oils and incenses from previous burials as well as the current burial clothes/wrappings of Jesus. There would have been enough to cover the wrappings to try to mask the smell of decay. The resurrection takes a back seat to the birth with reference to fragrance so I’m really excited to see that someone is trying to paint a scent story picture with Haec Dies! Thank you Danu!
I’m in Indiana and would love to try the sample set!

I love Sorcinelli’s Io Non Ho Mani…! So curious about this one. By the sounds of the review, it’s just what I need in these times, a Hope in the dark. The embrace of a beloved it’s such a beautiful description of a fragrance, I need to try it. Interested to test more thoughtfully his other perfumes as well. I’m from Romania, Europe. Thank you!

  • Danu’s review of Haec Dies seems deeply profound, exploring the fragrance’s narrative and connection to religious themes. It delves into the scent’s evocative essence, painting a vivid picture of moments suspended in time. The fragrance appears to encapsulate a moment of astonishment and awe, weaving a tale of hope and resurrection through its olfactory journey. The review resonates with the fragrance’s symbolism, inviting contemplation on faith, transformation, and solace.

  • What sparked my interest based on Danu’s review of Haec Dies is how it was released and timed to coincide with the religious events of Easter within the Christian calendar although its message and influence extend beyond it’s religious observance which is relevant even today. I’ve never tried any from this brand. Thank you for the opportunity. New York, USA.

  • I’ve heard from many people that Filippo is the incense king of the fragrance world. This is enough for me to be very interested in sampling all of his work. I also must say this review was so poetic and paints such a perfect picture this fragrance is aimed to portray. I am blown away by this text. Bravo! I’m from Illinois, US.

  • I truly like the concept of this brand and for this review – I barely have words – it is a relish to my ears and for my brain and soul – a promise. “This day” moment is what a vast essence of the culture and traditions we live in was created on. If a scent can model it, I need to smell it. Now I will have to have this one on my Fragrantica wishlist and that is it. What a treat to wear a vestment of hope in the darkness. Thank you again.

  • Danu could not have written a more”niche” review. This sounds amazing to a collector like the typical , ÇaFleureBon reader, but the average person would be completely lost. I love it! New Jersey, USA

  • understanding. In this one stilled moment death is overcome and sorrow is dissipated. A beautiful description by Danu this is a house that I have got no experience with but I am intrigued by the nonetheless. The Jasmine, Sandalwood and Vanilla sound great. Thanks a million from the UK

  • uplifting exuberance, heralding the lines of Marks Gospel free of language barrier, creed or belief system.

Danu Seith -Fyr, Contributor A wonderful description by Danu this is a house that I have heard of but have yet to delve into. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

  • Danu’s review evokes vivid imagery of an old world, holy, but tinged in soot, power, and hope. The scent of the spiritually exalted. I’m intrigued by the layers of rich, heady scent wound through and softened by citrus and florals, and I am eager smell Haec Dies and be transported back to such a momentous, Holy time.

I have yet to discover a favorite Scorcinelli Scent, but now I am excited to eventually try them all.

  • Never heard of Filippo Sorcinelli but you sure do paint a picture with the description. I would love to try out the full line.

  • Beautiful review. I like how Sorcinelli interpreted this theme, combining ritual materials with glowing florals, along with the unexpected notes of peach and aloe vera. The presentation is also exceptional and unlike anything I’ve seen. I’m always impressed when perfumers take on grand themes like Sorcinelli did with Haec Dies.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any Filippo Sorcinelli perfumes, so I’d love to try this sample set. Thanks!

  • David Furman says:

What really stands out to me is they have made a composition from many common ingredients in perfumery. I know what they all smell like independently. Sometimes simple can be so much better than a company taking risks just for the sake of novelty. I really love Italian perfumery and this has been an opportunity to learn about a new house. Hope I win, from Jacksonville NC.

  • I’ve not tried many of Sorcinelli’s creations, but the handful I’ve tried in the Extraits de Musique line, particularly Unda Maris 8, to me captured something similar to what Danu writes: ‘Here true to Filippo’s faith is a perfume infused with awe and grace and laced with stilled moments.’ These ‘stilled moments’ even in the music of Unda Maris make me really want to try Haec Dies. The meditative quality Danu describes is truly compelling. I’d love to win this set! I’m in Wa State, US.

  • foreverscents says:

I love the idea that Easter and the Resurrection can travel beyond any one religion or belief system. Although I am Roman Catholic and I love Easter, I love the idea that it can bring solace and joy to anyone, yes a cocoon against darkness. I enjoyed reading Danu’s breakdown of the notes of Has Dies. I haven’t tried anything from Filippo Sorcinelli.
    I live in the USA.

  • I’m not familiar with Filippo Sorcinelli but Dani’s description of the fragrances is amazing. The theme of transformation is compelling particularly with a sense as powerful as smell. I live the idea of exploring the offerings of a perfume house through a discovery sampler set. I’m in the US

  • Always love perfumes that feel like they belong in a sacred space, like chapel factory holy stick, this collection sounds incredible and well thought out. Would love to try. Wa state usa. 🙂

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review Danu.

This is a super interesting brand to read about.

I really like how the notes are arranged using the concepts of Subject, COunter Subject and Tail. Especially interesting is the use of cedar, to break up the citrus in the opening to give way to all the other notes in the fragrace.

I am looking forward to getting my nose on this.

    Cheers from WI, USA
