If I don’t go crazy, I’ll lose my mind
I saw a life before me but now I’m blind
I wanna go to heaven, never been there before
I wanna go to heaven, so you give me some more
– “Scorpio Rising” by Liam Gallagher

Scorpio, the eighth astrological sign, is the one they always tell you to watch out for. Reputed to be hot-tempered, passionate, charismatic, secretive, and, of course, the carnal powerhouse of the zodiac – that’s Scorpio. Scorpions can seduce with a glance or sting the hell out those who cross them. Even those milder creatures possessed of Scorpio as their rising sign cannot resist their scorpion tendencies, and, in the indisputable judgment of Cosmo, “operate like a volcano.” As a Scorpio myself, my advice to those so blessed (or burdened, depending on your take) is to just give in. It is pointless to fight us.

For those with Scorpio in their astrological house or who are simply Scorpio-curious, white-hot Eris Parfums Scorpio Rising is all you need to harness your inner predatory arachnid. Created in extrait form by Antoine Lie alongside ERIS Parfums founder and Author Barbara Herman, smouldering, spicy Scorpio Rising is one long, slow burn of incense, woods and leather that will have even the most balanced Libra or virtuous Virgo easing into venomous ways in no time.

Scorpio Rising by ERIS Parfums 2022

If you think Sriracha is too mild for you, open a bottle of ERIS PARFUMS Scorpio Rising. Fruity pink pepper and pungent crack black pepper kick the bottle open with such a sizzle I almost expect to hear that sszzttss of oil bouncing off a hot pan as Scorpio Rising hits my skin. A big pinch of cinnamon in adds a sensation of red hots to the mix and my mouth remembers the pleasant sting of the candy. Sweeter spices come after, turning down the heat from boiling to simmer with cooling, eucalyptic clove and cardamom. The camphorous spices here add dimension to the pepper, teasing out its winey and woody qualities. But of course, M. Lie does not allow Scorpio Rising to remain where it is, a piquant Commes des Garcons-style spice bomb, but as befits the astrological sex goddess, takes the fragrance into sultrier territory.

The next stage is resinous, embery Somalian incense wrapping its tendrils around some subtle immortelle in a lover’s clinch. As the maple syrup flower and wafts of burning incense coalesce, saffron snakes in to heat things back up. Saffron is a strange spice for me; in big doses, it can come across unpleasantly like tinned tomatoes past their expiry date. But in judicious amounts, it can add a dusty, aromatic heat as it does here. The zigzag of hot and cold spice throughout the fragrance is, I must observe, prototypically Scorpio; we are a passionate people, after all.

As the incense and saffron do their thing, and the pepper circles back for an encore, there are darker things brewing. Scorpio Rising turns down the lights and ittsssss time for leatha, baby! Using a decadent 25% leather extrait concentration, the fragrance goes kitten-with-a-whip. But soon, the leather is mixing with some loamy vetiver and cedar, augmented by cypriol, and Scorpio Rising becomes a beautifully blended amalgam of earthy, woody, spicy notes all filtering through a smoky cloud of smooth incense. Projection is moderate.

Now, I know there are those think of Scorps as a bunch of thunderously crazy divas, full of Dostoesvkian rages and tears, prickly as porcupines, seducing all and sundry, and then squirreling away after all the drama into some dark bunker just to be enigmatic. But we have our cuddly side, and that is manifest in the richly cocooning way Scorpio Rising envelopes its wearer as it heads towards dry-down. Rounding out the base are the smoothest of woods — cashmeran, sandalwood, and guaiac – which add a velvety layer to the fragrance just as the spices circle back once more. Sensual, spicy Scorpio Rising is as warm as the blood coursing through your veins in those moments you feel most alive.

Notes: Pink pepper, black pepper, clove bud, cinnamon absolute (all from La Réunion, Madagascar); Indian cardamom, French immortelle, Somalian incense, Indian cypriol, Atlas cedarwood, guaiac wood, saffron, sandalwood, ambroxan, cashmeran, Haitian vetiver, leather (Extrait/25% concentration –  ingredients from L’Atelier Français des Matières).

  • I never heard of this brand before, but the description of Scorpio rising makes me want to go to learn more about (hope they have sample kits). Also, scorpio is one of my favourite astrological signs, my best friend is scorpion, to tease her about her character, it never gets old. I’m from Paris, France

  • OMG! I’ve read the review in one breath and it made my heart beat stronger! I’m Scorpio and its all about me!! Pink pepper, saffron, incence and leather – I think I could blind buy this scent and I will love it!
    Lina, EU, Lithuania

  • I’m not familiar with this brand but it really got my attention with this! I’m Scorpio myself and the notes here sounds like a music to my ears (or rather to my nose). Pink and black peppers, saffron, incense and leather – couldn’t ask for more! I like how Lauryn touches the different facets of our personalities and explains them through different notes. Now I really have to try it. Every Scorpio just has to…What could be better than to find a perfume that radiates your own personality?
    I’m from Lithuania, EU

  • Just tried this last night and it is wonderful. I love the pepper mixture juxtaposed with the leather and incense. I enjoyed Lauryn’s incorporating her Scorpio sign with the scent as spicy and yet cool. I find that to be very apt with this scent. My favorites from Eris are Mxxx, MA Bete and, Scorpio Rising. I don’t have any Scorpios in my life/family. My favorite famous Scorpio’s are Ryan Renyolds and Anne Hathway. Thanks for the draw. In VA, USA.

  • Lauryn!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ What a fun review! I really love Somalian Incense and Immortelle (though I don’t think I’ve experienced them strongly paired in a fragrance). That alone peeks my interest! ❤️ I don’t know much about astrology, so cannot answer those questions. If Scorpio is as fiery & powerful as described, I can totally see Michelyn as a Scorpio! ❤️ I actually have ERIS samples on the way & can’t wait for them to arrive! Thank you for this excellent review & give away! Good luck to all! USA

  • Rachel Part 2:
ps – I forgot to add: my favorite Scorpio is Lauryn Beer, whose reviews balance knowledge with poetry better than anyone! ❤️

  • Wonderful review Lauryn! I love the reference to it being almost as if hot oil is sizzling on the pan. I find that cinnamon can be a tricky notes in fragrances because it can really take over and become to fire ball / red hot like but, I’m sure Mr Lei and Ms Hermann wouldn’t let that happen and was pleased to hear you didn’t think it did. I have a sample of this waiting to be tried and this review makes me even more eager to give it a go. I own bottles of Ma Bete and Night Flower and truly enjoy all the scents in the house. I agree, if you haven’t tried these yet you need to! Thanks for the draw, US

  • I have never tried any fragrance from Eris Parfums, Scorpio Rising included. As a Virgo myself, I’ve entered this draw to find out just what my “venomous ways” may be.

  • Lauryn did an amazing job here! Even though I am not a Scorpio myself, I would love to try this hot and cold spice mix. I love incense and spices fragrances, so this one should be a great discovery.
My mother is a Scorpio, so she is my favorite Scorpio without a doubt. She has such a brave attitude in job, and life in general.
I haven´t tried any Eris fragrance yet, but it is about time I do it.
Would love to win this one.
    I live in the U.S.

  • Enjoyed how Lauryn described ERIS Parfums Scorpio Rising as it can turn even well balanced Librans venomous. Ouch!! Pepper, incense, leather, sandalwood… I am in. I guess I will keep ERIS Parfums Scorpio Rising as a homeopathic medicine, a vaccine as it were, if I were to encounter a Scorpion’s wrath. I am quite intrigued by ERIS Parfums Scorpio Rising because of the qualities Lauryn described. Unfortunately no experience with ERIS Parfums, yet. Not sure who my favorite Scorpio is.

Thanks for the review and draw. Writing from the USA.

  • I’m a Scorpio and I am dying to get my hand on that one. Leather, incense and saffron are some of my favorite notes.Antoine Lie is one of the most creative and avant-garde “noses”, and Eris’ perfumes are amazing. Green Spell is my favorite (that amazing tomato leaf) and I bought it last summer from Perfumology. My next buy from the line will be Mxxx. I

  • BostonScentGuy says:

This sounds wonderful! Love the sound of the piquant hot/cool spices in the opening and the transition into a heart of frankincense, a note that I truly love all by itself. That it gets wrapped up in a smoky leather base is icing on the cake. Lauryn’s review also does justice to the preconceived notions around Scorpio’s and the symbolic connections to the scent. I’ve tried many Eris scents and loved them all–Belle du Jour is a weird and compelling white floral, and Night Flower is a narcotic/floral take on Musc Ravageur. Love the emphasis on animalics and vintage sensibilities in the line! Excited to try this one. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • I have no Scorpio in my star sign but my two oldest and best friends are Scorpios. I have long thought of them both as burning hot while I follow along-side in a slow smolder…! The description of Scorpio Rising perfectly matches my experience in the presence of my friends. I will sometimes simply stand in awe and occasionally quite literally back away so as not to get burned! I love them both dearly because if not for the Scorpios in our lives, life could be quite cold. I love the Eris collection and adore Night Flower. I especially like wearing it in the summer as a fragrance that does its own share of smoldering. Scorpio Rising sounds absolutely tantalizing. I have to say that Somalian Incense sounds absolutely intriguing, and along with the maple-syrup notes of immortelle, give the scent a lot of depth. Thank you for this opportunity! I am from the US.

  • The spicy notes intrigue me. I’ve been noticing Cypriol more in fragrance, but not sure I can pick it out in the few I have with it. I see it has leather in it, but I’m not hearing it is leather dominant which for me is a good thing. I know nothing about astrology, so it’s all confusing to me. I love love love Green Spell and look forward to putting it back into rotation soon when the weather improves. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • This description makes me Dreams
Very well done et beautifully written
    This scorpio sounds so wonderful
I love also Ma bête and Mxxxxx

  • Rising is as warm as the blood coursing through your veins in those moments you feel most alive.

Notes: Pink pepper, black pepper, clove bud, cinnamon absolute (all from La Réunion, Madagascar); Indian cardamom, French immortelle, Somalian incense, Indian cypriol, Atlas cedarwood, guaiac wood, saffron, sandalwood, ambroxan, cashmeran, Haitian vetiver, leather (Extrait/25% concentration. I am really fascinated by the notes especially the Spices and leather this sounds like a magical concoction. A house that I have got no experience with but I am curious and interested to find out more about this house. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • As described,Scorpio Rising sounds like a masterpiece!Antoine Lie’s boldness and vision for his creation mackes me imagine an over the top of your senses fragrance, i haven’t tested any Eris Parfumes before and my natal chart misses Scorpio, may this one be it! Thanks for the draw, from Romania with love!

  • But soon, the leather is mixing with some loamy vetiver and cedar, augmented by cypriol, and Scorpio Rising becomes a beautifully blended amalgam of earthy, woody, spicy notes all filtering through a smoky cloud of smooth incense. Projection is moderate. A beautiful piece by Lauryn I love Spices, Incense and leather this sounds like a beautiful blend. A house that I am familiar with but I have not tried anything by this house. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Virgo sun, Scorpio rising here! This blend seems intriguing: some of the notes are my absolute favourites while others are once that I’m not usually drawn to. I would love to try this and tap into my Scorpio side … Thank you for the evocative review! (Stockholm, Sweden)

  • As a Scorpio rising myself, this is a very exciting perfume. Love the nod to the cuddly side, and I’m especially interested in the saffron – leather – woods combo. In Ireland, EU

  • Hallo, Scorpio Rising Eris!
And I am Scorpio Rising Aries!
I don’t know if we have similar notes, but we have similar temper! From the experience I believe Scorpio Suns are more dramatic and furious, Scorpio Risings sting or explode by total surprise for others (and for themselves, too) because most of the time they are doing their magic very secretly.
I love Antoine’s Lie creations (my current fav is [O8]Oxygen Nu_be) and I would like to participate in the draw for worldwide (from EU). Thank you!
P.S. Is Antoine Lie himself Scorpio rising?

  • Haven’t tried any from this brand as of yet. What grabbed me reading this review was the phrase “kitten-with-a-whip”. I wonder if Lauryn saw that movie. US

  • I’m intrigued by Lauryn’s description of spices and incense in SR – I love both. I haven’t yet sampled any Eris, but a sample of Mxxx is due to arrive any day this week. It sounds as bold as SR, I can’t wait. My favourite Scorpio is my gf…

  • This sounds amazing.
Agressive and passionate as a Scorpio. My favorite Scorpio is Emma Stone.
    Thanks from Mexico.

  • As a long-time self-identified Discordian (Hail Eris), and a gemini sun with scorpio rising (actually, Gemini stellium in the 8th house Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Venus) this scent sounds like it was made for me! I am definitely heading over to Eris to snag some samples.

  • Anyone familiar with Barbara Herman’s work and perfumes doesn’t need anything but the words “there’s a new release from Eris Parfums”: her collaboration with Antoine Lie is nothing short of amazing. Ma Bete is my absolute fave: it’s such a beast (pun intended).
I think my Moon is in Scorpio (or was?), and I happen to have some pretty spectacular Scorpio friends. They’re gorgeous people, and we get along just fine 🙂

  • Tssss sizzle this perfume sounds hot! I really like the sound of the spices used for this perfume. Lauryn really makes it sound exciting and not for the faint hearted. I love a bit immortelle in a perfume too! I have not yet taken the Eris plunge I’m afraid to say and definitely should asap. I’m an Aquarius so probably the opposite of Scorpio’s sizzle and my favourite Scorpio is my friend Irja with flaming red hair to suit ;). Marit UK

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

I never heard of this brand before, but the description of Scorpio rising makes me want to go to learn more about. I am from Bucharest Romania Europe

  • Ooh so fun combining perfume and astrology. I am a “virtuous Virgo” rising but do have a lot of Scorpio action in my outer planets and it is also my North Node. Fittingly I am a fan of spicy fragrances and liked the imagery used to convey the sting from the spices. I have yet to try anything from this line but am checking out their website right now. USA

  • Oh my! Where do I start? I took a hiatus from the perfume world, sold most of my babies (bad, bad, girl) and now I’m starting over again. I am a Scorpio (Nov 15) so of course I want to try Scorpio Rising and I absolutely love pink pepper and leather (25%, WOW!). My favorite Scorpio is Picasso because I’m an artist and his work really speaks to me. What’s a natal chart? Sounds interesting. I haven’t tried any Eris beauties yet and I’m looking for a new signature fragrance. I tend to gravitate towards 80’s powerhouses and anything unique. Hopefully I’ll find something soon. Thanks for such a wonderful review!

  • The amazing fragrance notes grab me, I never tried any ERIS Parfums, I don’t have Scorpio Rising in my natal chart, my favorite Scorpio is Scorpio Rising, I live in Poland, EU.

  • I’m a Scorpio (yes, really!) so these notes definitely speak to me. We tend to get the sensual scents and this definitely qualifies. I love incense and leather as base notes and these seem to be of the highest quality. Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with any ERIS parfums but I would love a bottle of Scorpio Rising. I’m in MD, USA.

  • Indeed this fragrance sounds worthy of a Scorpio. Sultry, enigmatic and passionate are key words for this magnetic sign and all the different facets this perfume is composed of seem to have covered those wholly. I find pepper, resins and leather to be most relevant in “transcribing” this person to a perfume.
I don’t have a Scorpio rising in my natal chart and actually my chart only has Pluto in Scorpio, but I have many dear friends and “favorite peeps” born in that sign. One of them is my dearest professor in University, charming personality and brilliant mind and he taught me most of everything I know.
    I live in the EU.

  • Constancesuze says:

Not a Scorpio (Leo, Moon in Cancer, Aquarius Rising) but this sounds beautiful and I love what I have smelled from Eris so far- Belle de Jour and MX. Barbara Herman is a treasure.
    Please do enter me.

  • mindythesidhe says:

Thank you Lauren for revealing in your review what most don’t know about Scorpios ~ we are SMOOTH!!! That grabbed me by my Scorpio tail and stung with love!!! I have not tried the ERIS brand, yet!! And if fellow Scorpios are crazy, my favorite one is also my birth mate: comedian Tracy Morgan!!! I am in the USA.

  • Wow Scorpio Rising sounds amazing. I did not try any ERIS perfumes, and yes I will get some samples right now! Scorpio rising sounds like my type of fragrance (and not because I am Scorpio 🙂 ). I love spicy peppery and incense fragrances. What makes me the most interested is when Lauryn says “Commes des Garcons-style spice bomb”. This at least to some level helps me understand her amazing description and note breakdown. This for sure is something I must try! I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Scorpio rising, according to Lauryn, is a smouldering, leathery, incense fragrance, with lots of pepper! I love her beautiful descriptions of this interesting fragrance. My granddaughter is a scorpio and she is a bundle of energy and will. I have tried Eris Green Spell, amazing and exciting fragrance. I am a Leo. Thank you for the chance to try this. California. Great review!

  • When I was reading this nice article by Lauryn, I was thinking about how the perfumer Antoine Lie will create this perfume. I liked the idea and I was very curious to know how he will choose the notes and how he will draw this nice fragrance. I hope to be lucky enough to try it through the giveaway. Thank you again for the nice article 🙂 greetings from Sarajevo, BiH.

  • wandering_nose says:

Based on Lauryn’s review, this fragrance is pure fire! As a true aficionado of incense, woods and leather, and spices, and a person with Scorpio rising, I am thrilled. It is so alluring to me to think it might be possible to capture the well known features of a very pronounced zodiac sign in a perfume, and looks like Eris Parfums did well on that front. I haven’t been familiar with the perfume house as of yet but after reading Lauryn’s description I’d be ready to purchase a sample! My fave Scorpio is Pablo Picasso hands down, adore him. Thank you from Ireland, EU

  • Very interesting review Lauryn! What grabs me about ERIS Parfums Scorpio Rising based on Lauryn’s review is her description of it as a smouldering slow long burn, with crackling pepper, hot cinnamon, and fragrant cardamom burning slowly into warm resinous incense that provides a sensual, slow burning heat. It sounds so perfectly seductive and absolutely perfect for me – I can’t wait to try it.

I have tried and absolutely adore ERIS Night Flower, the perfect blend of tuberose and animalic leather. I don’t have Scorpio rising in my natal chart, but I have many favorite people in my life that are Scorpios for sure! I would say my favorite famous Scorpio is Ryan Reynolds. I live in the US.

  • Oh lord, it’s going to be an expensive year! This fragrance sounds like it has the potential to knock Night Flower off the perfumed pedestal I have placed her on!

As a Scorpio myself, I’d want to try it based on the name alone, but pepper, cinnamon, and incense sound divine, and who wouldn’t want be to be a kitten with a whip, after all?!

Well done, Lauryn, yet another lemming born!

  • Michael Prince says:

What interests me about ERIS Parfums Scorpio Rising based on Lauryn’s review is how she so vividly described this beautiful and intricate fragrance. I love spicy fragrances, so all the spicy and aromatic notes infusing with Saffron and Leather make this sound quite delightful. I don’t have a Scorpio rising and my Natal Chart and this my first time hearing about this brand Eris Parfums. I don’t have a favorite Scorpio. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • Claumarchini says:

I am not familiar with the brand, I keep on reading marvellous things but have not tried anything yet, so I’d love to be one of the 2 lucky winners. Lauryn’s passionate (after all, she IS a Scorpio!) review really sparkled my interest, the notes and the construction of the fragrance sound amazing and depicts a fragrance to definitely have in one’s collection. My favourite Scorpio would definitely be my beloved dad, whom I miss so much and who used to wear just Fahrenheit: since the day it was released, back in 1988, he could no longer wear anything else and now everybody cannot smell it without thinking about him. Indeed he was very passionate about his ideas and at times very stubborn, and with no mercy for those who betrayed his trust. But only with those people. With everybody else he was just easy-going, happy, positive, friendly and very very generous: viva the Scorpios! Greetings from Italy

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review Lauryn.

I have heard of this house before but I’ve not had a chance to smell any of their fragrances. I love how the notes in this fragrance are a reflection of the nature of people who fall under the Scorpio zodiac. This was a really fun review.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Hmm, people seem to talk about Scorpio more than any other sign. This frag sounds very intriguing, lots of spicy personality. I haven’t been fortunate enough to try anything by ERIS yet. Apparently I don’t have any Scorpio in my chart, but I have a couple of good friends who are Scorpios.
    (SoCal)

  • I don’t have scorpio rising but have scorpio moon and some other planetary aspects in scorpio. I was really drawn to the spicy notes as I’m SriLankan
