Carner Barcelona Fig Man Review (2019) + Ode To Dali Draw

Carner barcelona Fig man inspired by Salvador Dali

There are many niche, mainstream and designer fragrances on the market which use fig as a key ingredient (notably Olivia Giacobetti for L’Artisan Parfumeur Premier Figuier (1994) and Diptyque Philosykos (1996). Editor Sebastian Jara has chosen to review the new release (from the Fresh Collection), Carner Barcelona Fig Man, which is a great example of perfume meeting art and great storytelling.  Carner Barcelona  is the Spanish house started by Creative Director Sara Carner who grew up “surrounded by figs and Mediterranean vegetation” (you can read her Creative Director article here).  As its name implies this is a brand that is rooted in Spain and Spanish culture. Carner Barcelona Fig Man takes its name from Salvador Dali, perhaps one of the greatest surrealist artists of his time.  Dali  was born and buried in Figueres, Catalonia and while he might be best known for “The Persistence of Time”, Sara Carner was inspired by one of his illustrations in the 1969 Fruit Series “Fig Man” (homme figuier). Fragrance as both art and scent of place.

  • FIGS!

My curiosity is through the roof! Leave it to Sebastian to entice me to try scents that are usually out of my bubble. This is something I’d love to wear out on a summer night.

  • Srikant Gaikwad says:

Wow!!. This sounds like an amazing composition and based on the review by sebastian i think i am definitely going to like it. Looks like my kinda scent. From Colorado, US

  • AlwaysWater says:

Great review, I liked that Sebastian tried his hand at describing the exact fruitiness of the fig note. Fruity as a descriptor could mean almost anything, but I’m glad to hear it’s a subtle fig mixed with the leaves and spiciness.

  • Sebastian is a phenomenal reviewer! I get exited every time I get a YouTube or Instagram notification. With this particular fragrance review, I enjoyed the story behind the fragrance. I adore Fig fragrances and this one looks nice. Now I need to have it so I can smell nice.

  • FragranceJourney says:

Sebastian always does a great job and the thought of this fragrance describing a beautiful pairing really intrigued me.Don’t have a fig fragrance in my collection and love to enjoy this one.

  • Gillian McNulty says:

This fragrance sounds perfect for me! I watched the review, and I was very excited to hear three things added to the fig. Cardamom, to add a bit of spice. The marine note, and I can picture sitting by fig trees close to the coast. Then, the creamy base. All of this sounds amazing to me, and I would love to try it. We also have a fig tree growing in our garden, and it is my favorite fruit when it is in season.

I do like the idea of this fragrance being based on a painting. It is all art (fragrance and painting), and “Fig Man” is a perfect name for an artist who grew up in a town close to the coast, which is known for figs. It makes sense.

Thank you for the giveaway. I live in the US.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s detail explanation of the fragrance. Also he gives history about the fragrance/house. The explanation of the painting was a great touch. Other reviewers wouldn’t go that deep. I also enjoyed his honesty.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

Another excellent review by Sebastian. Not really sure how fig smells in fragrances but I’m curious to find out. Would def enjoy grabbing a bottle of this for my small collection, thanks. VA, USA

  • Nathan Cherry says:

I adore fig fragrances, especially Perfumology Grange and Armani Figuier Ardent. I loved Sebastian’s review because, as usual, it was sweet, to the point, and very descriptive. Love how he highlights lesser known houses! I’d love to win this one. Alabama, USA.

  • luisquezada1 says:

Definitely the Fig with the sea accord is what caught my attention in Sebastian’s review. Can’t wait to try it!!! From Maryland US

  • Cristian Perez says:

I give all of the credit to Sebastian for putting me onto philosykos and now premier figue! All of the credit goes to him for opening my eyes to outstanding fig scents and now he has my radar on this one! If it’s approved by him I have no doubt that this is a stellar fragrance I can’t wait to get my nose on fig man by Carner Barcelona

  • mrodriguez2285 says:

Great review from Sebastian! I liked his description of the transition from the fig note to the complementary heart of the fig leaf. I have never experienced a fig fragrance and from this review I am excited to try this one.

  • Wesley Jones says:

I always lovd his videos, he’s my favorite scent reviewer on YouTube. He answered my question about the light, decidedly non frutiy scent of a fresh fig and how it was implemented in the fragrance

  • Gamou Ndiaye says:

This sounds so good and makes me wanna just pour myself into it.
There are fruits that intrigues you just because how complicated they can be blended into a cologne and fig is one of them.
Definitely something I would buy for the summer.

  • lobisgames says:

What I like was the passion about this fragrance and one of the fragrance that I like has fig now this is a beautiful presentation that put my interest in this brand

  • fazalcheema says:

From Sebastian review, this seems fruity spicy perfume with focus on fig. My favorite art style is Surrealism and Dali is, indeed, my favorite painter in that style. I am in US

I’d love to give this one a try! To this point I’ve only tried El Born and I love it! Great review Sebastian!

  • I haven’t smelled anything from Carner Barcelona but I do love fig fragrances, especially on my husband. I like that Sebastian explained why the fragrance is called “Fig Man” and that he showed us the actual Fig Man picture. That was fun! Thanks for the review. i’d love to win this one for my husband. In the USA.

  • Great review, now i’m really, really curious about this fragrance. I’m a big fan of the fig note in perfumes. Philosykos, Premier figuer (both versions) love them all, even more affordable fragrances like Noble fig from Ferrari house is great, and my favourite of all Fico di amalfi from ADP. Thanks for the awesome giveaway.

  • I love anything with fig. I enjoyed hearing Sebastian’s story behind the fragrant. As always, awesome review. I hope I win!

The only other Fig based fragrance I own is by Ferrari called “Noble Fig” and I do love it. Excellent description of the notes and his own personal touch by Sebastian and thats what I like about his video reviews. I would love to get my hands on this one for sure.

  • Love the note description on this fragrance! Would be interesting to see what it smells like on skin. Thank you for another great review. I have no fig fragrances. I love Dali too. Kentucky, USA

  • Jeremy Francis says:

I enjoyed the thought of being engulfed by the aroma of a fragrance that doesn’t have an overbearing fruit note. I am not familiar with the scent of fig and would love to be transported to Figueres through this bottle.

  • det313sykes says:

I do believe the composition of the fragrance would have you transported to that coast surrounded by fig trees never wanting to go back to reality. I’m from Michigan.

  • Looks like an interesting scent. Sebastian’s review was very informative and thorough. He totally has my curiosity piqued about Carner Barcelona Fig Man.

  • I enjoyed his enthusiasm for this fragrance and fig itself. I like how he gives a effective impression of the fragrance. I love fig as well and would love to win. I watched his video, am subbed and liked it. USA resident and this might be the modern gentleman fragrance I have been yearning for

  • Marius Johnson says:

Recently I started liking fragrances with the fig accord…I’m new to this house…looking forward trying out this new fragrance Fig Man!!!

  • Christina says:

I love to hear Sebastian’s perfume reviews! I can smell the scent when he describes the fig fruit and leaves, a well balanced perfume.. I would love to have it in my collection!
    Thank you!

  • Such a cool painting for a fragrant inspiration. When I heard the notes of this I was immediately drawn to it. I love Sebastian’s reviews because he really covers all of the bases – his experience of top, middle and base. The creamy woody base topped with fig and – cardamom – I’m in love already. Thank you for the great review and Cafleurebon and Europerfumes for the giveaway! I am in the USA.

  • I really liked hearing about all the different notes Sebastian described in his review and I am also a Dali fan 🙂

  • I recently received a sample of this and to my surprise, really enjoyed it. The review really put into perspective what this fragrance is about. Great review!

  • I love fig perfumes if they aren’t too sweet. I like how Dali art and birthplace was the inspiration. I have watched many of Sebastian’s videos and remember many of the Cafleurbon reviews especially Tardes and Rima. Those are my favorites but I would like to try rose and dragon too
    USA and thank you

  • I’m intrigued and can’t wait to try this out. I have wanted to try some fig fragrances, this could be a good starting point. Hopefully ill win, this sounds like a truly well rounded fragrance!

  • Rachel Fowler says:

Sebastian always presents fragrances well and his description of this fragrance sounds amazing!!

  • bigscoundrel says:

Sebastian always does a great job describing fragrances. I’d love to try the soft, spicy Fig Man fragrance. I’m in the USA.

  • I like the idea of combining a fig fruit note with a marine note. It sounds refreshing and exotic in the same time. This combination of notes sounds very interesting and I am eager to try it. Usually you have a fig tree/leaves as a not not the fruit.

  • Johnny Jones says:

Sebastian can make anyone want to try a fragrance. I definitely would love to try this fragrance just by the review he made. I just like the way he breaks down the fragrances.

  • Hassan Alnasser says:

So excited to try it on.
Fig is one of the few fruity notes that I love,
O like a lot, but in love with only few.

  • I love Salvador Dali, as well, and liked Sebastian’s reminiscence about film school. I, too, did not know this painting! I love fig fragrances and am in USA and a fan of Sebastian’s reviews.

  • Ohh man , fig brings back so many childhood memories, playing under the fig trees in my Grandmother’s backyard so close the Mediterranean you can smell the salt and hear the waves.
It will interesting to compare it to Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi.

  • So interesting! I am a ma ember of the Dali museum in St Petersburg Florida. I have spent many Sunday’s doing you a there and have attended many many events. Dali is my favorite artist. I have three of the Dali fragrances. Love that Sebastian always offers new information in his videos . Background to perfumers creations. I have wanted to try a fig fragrance but I don’t own any. As always a very interesting review.

  • Livia Neves says:

Love your releases and Sebastian’s reviews. Always on point! I’ve already checked out and ended up buying a few fragrances just due to his taste! Fig Man seems to have a really nice smell, and the history around it is just so poetic! Would love to try it!

  • Sebastian’s live for fig fragrances is well known to those who watch his reviews, so it’s a pleasure watching him review a new fig scent. He keeps it short and to the point, which of great!

  • I’m with Sebastian… I love the fig accord, and I love Dali!
The description Sebastian gave in his video was very interesting to me.
I enjoy fragrances that come with a bit of a back story to describe their overall presence, and this one has a good one.
Figs and the Sea are definitely for me!
    Thanks

  • Fig is one of my favorite notes. Can’t wait to try it. As always great review and insight.

  • Chris Magee says:

You peaked my curiosity I have try this out is it a summer fragrance or a winter fragrance. Love to wear it on the Mississippi Gulf Coast (Gulfport)

  • I love so many of these notes, and I don’t know much about Dali, despite having seen some of his art in museums. I think these notes together will by really nice, and don’t know much about this house. Thanks Sebastian, for the review and arranging the draw! In the us.

  • NiceVULady says:

This sounds like a delicious fragrance! Sebastian’s reviews are always great due to his precise descriptions and enthusiasm, and this one even better for his own connection to Dali. Please count me in for this bottle! Thanks

  • Integra204 says:

I really enjoy how he describes the note breakdown. I love the idea of a little bit fruity fig, the only one I have is primarily fig leaf. I live in the USA, in Arizona.

  • This sounds nice. I enjoy cardamom so I think that I’ll like this one as does Sebastian. Thanks, US

  • As soon as Sabastian mentioned “creamy fig”, I was sold.

I love fig, but they’re often way too sharp for me, so I agree with the statement he made about this 100%.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  • I don’t experience many fig fragrances. There seems to be notes here not usually paired with a fig perfume. Excited to have a chance to win this. US

Thank you for the opportunity!! We love fig in our house! Keep Sebastian’s reviews coming! He doesn’t get enough credit!!
Thanking you , Greg and Christina Burris

  • Sebastian always knows how to describe a fragrance well. I’m really interested in this one! I’m not sure I’ve experienced a creamy fig fragrance and Carner Barcelona creates fantastic fragrances! USA

  • I love the idea of a creamy fig, and I love fig as a dominant note in perfums in general. In fact, working through testing several right now. This sounds a great new addition to the genre. Thanks for the review. And can you have easier math problems to comment?!

  • I love fig and this one sounds very unique. When Sebastian describes it as a soft, spicy dig fragrance, I knew I needed it. Great video review as always.

  • I love fig and this one sounds very unique. When Sebastian describes it as a soft, spicy dig fragrance, I knew I needed it. Great video review as always.

  • IvanVelikov says:

I knew the name Carner Barcelona because of Cafleurebon and Youtubers , but up util a few weeks i was not aware how great El Born is.Went to a team building and a guy was wearing in. It’s almost unreal , and i’m not a guy you could impress so easily .
I’m waiting for delivery now – can’t wait.
Obviously i can’t speak from personal experience , but Fig Man sounds pretty good with fig fruit , fig leaves, violet , marine notes but also with patchouly and tonka in the dry-down .Sounds like a high quality every day type of fragrance.Exactly what i need for the summer.
Enjoyed the review , and thanks for the giveaway

  • What an interesting concept. I had never seen that painting before. Fig-based fragrances are few and far between. I don’t own any, but would love to try. As always, Sebastian breaks it down nicely…a little about the brand, a little about the scent. A perfect mix. WA / USA

  • Hello again Sebastian and Thanks to you and Europerfumes for the review and chance to win. Like I said on YT I’ve been waiting for a new fig frag review and I Love Dali surrealist art is my ❤️ Wonderful idea to fashion a frag after one of his illustrations. Soft and spicy fig Uni. Sounds like something I’d love to try. USA

  • Thank you Sebastian for this interesting review and Cafleurebon for this draw.
I haven’t perfume about fig. As Sebastian said it is more about fig- earthy, green, woody. I want to test this, maybe this perfume wilk be my first perfume about fig.

I especially enjoyed seeing the painting that inspired the scent. I liked how Sebastian’s description was vivid and specific.

  • d3m0lici0n says:

I like fig fragrances, for summer they are great. Two very good are of course Philosykos and the other i like is Dior Balade Sauvage. Liked the review is the fig plus the sea accord.

  • Brian Williams says:

One thing I always love about Sebastian’s reviews (as with this one) he suggests notes I never think of myself. He’ responsible for my Rose addiction. Can’t wait to smell Fig Man!

  • wildevoodoo says:

Thank you Sebastian for writing out the notes and explaining how big of a role each one plays and how prominent it is at various stages of the fragrance’s development! A creamy/spicy/soft figgy/marine fresh fragrance sounds so wonderful. I love all fig fragrances in general, and the inclusions of some of my other favorite notes (cardamom, guaïac, marine notes, tonka) without getting too fruity-sweet sounds so perfect. Salvador Dalí is my favorite artist, and as much as I love Catalunya I had never known before that he was from Figueres, which would explain part of the inspiration for Homme Figuier as well as the fragrance! To answer his question in the video, I love the idea of paintings serving as inspiration for fragrances, and I think several other Dalí works could inspire more amazing fragrances. I would absolutely love to try this latest offering from Carner Barcelona! I am in the US 🙂

  • Elizabeth Houser says:

I’m always curious to see what Sebastian is reviewing. He has opened my eyes to a new world of fragrance for me that I didn’t know existed, and now I’m hooked! Fig Man sounds delicious! I would love to take a sniff!

  • Ruben Lopez says:

Sebastian, Is the ultimate fragrance review pure class on how he presents each fragrance and describes each note. I never tried or owned any fig base fragrance.

  • Michael Prince says:

Sebastian, great review on Carner Barcelona Fig Man. I like how it’s inspiration comes from a painting by Salvador Dali. I like how Fig is the dominant player throughout the fragrance getting the fig fruit in the top along with the spicy cardamom and the fig branches and leaves in the heart combining with the marine accord. I am a subscriber from the USA.

  • Sebastian keeps giving the perspective of the fragrance profile and advice on what’s best for the wearer. I can understand when I should wear my fig or ambers in what season is best. Fig Man seems perfect for Houston Spring weather.

  • What an outstanding review from Sebastian. I love his take on this fabulous fragrances with the dominant note of FIGS, and the story of Salvador Dali. I also do love me some FIGs. I live in CA, USA.

  • sillage4ever says:

Sebastian knows his fig perfumes well and adroitly outlines ways in which they fail and succeed; fortunately it seems Fig Man is a creamy success. Thanks for the drawing, I adore the green tang of fig and I’m looking forward to trying Fig Man some day.

  • Bubeto_GG says:

I really like the inspiration behind Fig Man – about the painting called Homme Figuier , and of course Sebastian review.
Fresh , juicy marine pleasing , and happy fragrance – perfect for the summer.
The only fragrance that i own from Carner Barcelona is 100ml of Palo Santo. No doubt my favorite , but i know ~ 1/3 of Carner Barcelona offerings.
Many thanks Cafleurebon , Europerfumes and Sebastian
    USA

  • I love all of Sebastian’s reviews. This scent sounds really nice for both me and my boyfriend. I like that it has notes of marine accords. It sounds like it softens the fig notes. I like that Sebastian says it have a creamy feel to it on the drydown because of the tonka bean and patchouli.
    I live in the USA

  • Marvalicious says:

Sounds like Sebastian has another good fragrance for me to try. Enjoyed the review. I’m in Richmond Indiana

  • Great review by Sebastian Jara as per usual. I would love to try this fragrance! I have not tried any fig fragrances yet, but have heard good things about them. Thanks for the draw! US.

  • I love an olfactory counterpart for visual art, fig is a favorite note, and Dali was the first print I purchased with my own money. This has a spot held on the den wall:-) Thank you Cafleurbon and Sebastian for the review and bringing this awesome story to my world!

  • Shannon Gaines says:

Greetings from Lexington, Kentucky USA! I liked how Sebastian described how this fragrance was connected with Salvador Dali who was such an interesting yet sometimes disturbing figure (especially with his Hitler obsession). I quite like fig in fragrance but have never found the perfect one. Perhaps Fig Man will be the winner.

  • To me Carner Barcelona is a house every fragrance lover should explore. Pretty sure no matter what taste you got, you’ll find pleasing and unique fragrance suited for your needs. The one I found was Ambar Del Sur , and of course the reason was Sebastian and his review for Cafleurebon. I was intrigued because of his review, sampled it , and bought it soon after.
Now again because of him my CC is in jeopardy again . I just love fruity woody fig scents.
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Uncle1979 says:

I have to say I love paintings too , but to be honest Salvador Dali is way too abstract for me.
Saw a few YouTube reviews of Fig Man – everyone is praising it, and after I saw Mr Jara review I just need to smell it . Juicy fruity fig fragrances I love.
I was curious about Carner Barcelona mid 2018 . Saw a few YouTube videos mostly about Palo Santo and D600. I presume both bestsellers. To be honest I was not impressed. But there’s one Carner Barcelona fragrance that “Shook me all night long” called El Born. Usually I don’t like buying fragrances without proper testing, but El Born Shook me so hard, and I was like “Get my money asap”.
    I’m so glad I got 100 , and not 50ml bottle.
    Appreciate the giveaway campaign

  • Johncarrillo says:

Fig. Sebastian was spot on last time with his recommendation for Sea Salt & Fig. Being that I’m a big fan of the note of fig when used in fragrances, I’m sure this recommendation will be great as well. Carner is brand I’m familiar with as well, Tardes being one my most complimented scents to date. So I know the composition will be no slouch

  • I knew the name Carner Barcelona for a while , and I watched a few YouTube reviews , and read some on Cafleurebon , but I never had a chance to smell their creations up until last week. Because of Marianne Butler beautiful review ordered a sample of Volcano , and I’m loving it. I do plan to get a bottle for the late Autumn and winter season.
Volcano is way too heavy for the summer , but Fig Man sounds just about right for the hot weather. Juicy fig , fig leaves , a bit oceanic , and woody too. Sign me up please.
Thank you all for the draw

Really loved the review on this fragrance. I’m one that hasn’t had the privilege of trying anything from this house. But this scent seems very intriguing to me. As it has those marine accords which are suitable for this Florida weather that I live in. Hope I can win this so I can give you my take on it as well. I’m a DJ so I critique a lot of releases, mainly maxi singles. I give my honest opinion & review on them. Really looking forward to trying this house out.

  • WaltherP99 says:

As i said a couple of times Sebastian imo is the best fragrance reviewer – both on Youtube , and here on Cafleurebon. I follow him since the early days of his old channel called Man Loves Cologne .
Juicy italian bergamot , fig fruit and leaves, cardamom , earthy , green and woody – that’s all me when i want to party in the summer.
D600 is the best one from Carner Barcelona from the ones i know.To me of course . My girfriend loves it on me – bought me a bottle , but she said she does not want me to wear it if she is not around haha
I do like a lot Palo Santo too – own a samll 10ml decant , but performance is not good on my skin…at all. Love both D600 and Palo Santo , but D600 performs really good .

Thank you for the chance to win I’m in the USA!

  • What an awesome review, short and sweet as usual. Sebastian’s reviews are always detailed and descriptive especially when it comes to the notes and smell.
    I live in California.

  • I loved Sebastian’s review, the notes and the fact that the fragrance is inspired by a Salvador Dali painting, that is such an interesting concept to base a fragrance. I live in USA!

  • drewactor says:

Great review as always by Sebastian. Never tried Carner but have heard good things. Dali is one of my favorite artists and I love that the fragrance was inspired by one of his paintings. Glad to see the scent uses fig and fig leaves to make the scent use fig two ways. Would love to try it. Thanks as always for the draw.

  • doveskylark says:

I am always interested in what inspires perfumers. I love reading about the source of their inspiration, especially when it comes from art, travel, film, and the natural world. Sebastian’s review made me want to learn more about Dali and his birthplace.

    I live in the USA.

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

According to Sebastian in his video this is a very unisex fragrance, right in the middle, and my husband and I both love fig notes so it sounds like we could share this one! Like Sebastian I also like Dali. There’s something kind of melancholy about this particular painting the fragrance is based on. I’d be excited to try it. I’m in the USA.
