ÇaFleureBon has been one of the few (if not the only) online magazine to have a natural perfumery editor and to champion natural fragrances as olfactive art since our inception in 2010. ÇaFleureBon X DSH Perfumes Green Queen was created not only to fete ÇaFleureBon’s 14th Anniversary but also to celebrate the effervescent burst of energy that Spring brings and to honor Earth Day, 4/22/2024. Created as our fourth Queen collaboration (2023 Disco Queen, 2022 Warrior Queen and 2021 Drama Queen, I asked Dawn Spencer Hurwitz of DSH Perfumes, “to make me a cologne I could love, since I am not fond of  most colognes’ disappearing act on my skin and use 100 percent botanical ingredients. Dawn exceeded my expectations; Green Queen is a contemporary Extrait Cologne with references to historic cologne styles and more modern interpretations but with sillage and longevity.  –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

DSH Perfumes Green Queen is a collaboration with Dawn Spencer Hurwitz and ÇaFleureBon's Editor in Chief Michelyn Camen

“Of course, it is a pleasurable challenge to create full perfumes with an all-botanical palette.  As colognes have always been made with the lightest of materials (and botanical materials can be more delicate), getting the structure in full balance, and the ‘weaving’ of the materials is key. Green Queen has that radiant, solar power of the cologne genre but with a full body and as it is in extrait concentration, it has a wonderful burst of energy and a lovely, soft sustain. Green Queen is a bubbly lemon, mandarin, and neroli cologne with lively leafy green and wildflower elements.  Warm embellishments are found throughout the drydown (orris butter, soft patchouli, subtle oakmoss, cistus, vetiver, and ambrette) which allow Green Queen to have lasting power without harshness.  The addition of natural aldehydes (yes, there are aldehydes derived from botanical sources-) gives the perfect amount of lift to Green Queen to put it firmly in the arena of fine fragrance. ”-Dawn Spencer Hurwitz

Notes:  Lemon, Cedrat, Tahitian Lime, Green Mandarin, (natural) Leafy Green Accord, Neroli, Bigarade, Bitter Orange, (natural) Melon Aldehyde, (natural) Wildflowers accord, Sambac Jasmine, Orris Butter, Cistus, Ambrette Seed, Patchouli, Green Oakmoss, and Vetiver.

DSH Perfumes Green Queen is 100 percent botanical cologne extrait

I love green fragrances in general. This one sounds like well rounded not sharp edges with nice Oakmoss and Vetiver in the base. From PA,USA

I love that there is orris butter in this perfume and that it is a cologne perfume. I like colognes but not how they have fade quickly. Thank you for the drawing. NY state USA

  • Oh gosh what is there Not to like??? I love, love, love a Green perfume but right now I’ve just been knee deep in my love for all the green fragrances. Chewy, mastic, herbal, tart, chypre, dry, bitter, creamy, fresh, citrus, aromatic… all of them! Bring me the Green. This fits perfectly with my recent mini obsession.
Thank you for the chance to win. I am in California

The natural green elements involved appeal to my senses. The note story evokes a warm, breezy feel and something unique you’d want to get your nose on. I live in Oregon.

  • My first introduction to natural perfumery was Joie de Vert by Mandy Aftel that I read here. I didn’t know Dawn makesbotanical perfumes or that aldehydes can be derived naturally. I think Green Queen sounds so beautiful especially all the citrus and oakmoss.

  • I love green fragrances! The note list is stunning. I live in the United States. Thank you for the drawing.

  • I love cologne-style fragrances that manage to last. And I love green fragrances. This sounds right up my alley. I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

  • I love Dawn’s green and floral perfumes (they are so realistic!) so of course I am dying to try this one. I also love the addition of the orris butter. This sounds perfect for springtime – thank you for the opportunity to win! I’m in MN, USA.

  • Happy Earth Day everyone! CaFleureBon’s dedication to natural perfumery is one of the major reasons I check in daily – to see what magic independent natural perfumers are up to lately.

I’d love to try Green Queen and experience what sounds like a wonderfully energetic green cologne (with natural aldehydes, nonethless!) Best wishes from NJ!

    Thanks for the lovely review!

It’s neat to see cistus, orris butter, ambrette seed and vetiver in this cologne. It’s not often that one sees these notes in a cologne style fragrance.

Learning and reading about natural aldehydes has been a lot of fun.

I think it’s really cool to see all the citruses, neroli and leafy greens in this scent – in a true call to the botanical cologne of the old days.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Both Dawn’s artistry and the mention of anything GREEN in her talented hands (and nose) appeal to me. This sounds exquisite, and I truly love green scents in the eau de cologne style. Thank both you and Dawn for this generous opportunity!

  • I love this ongoing Queen series, but I’m often drawn to Dawn’s perfumes, and Green Queen sounds wonderful. More than that, it’s 100% botanical, and a cologne style; an excellent tribute to both ÇaFleureBon and Earth Day. I was interested to read how Dawn boosted the staying power of solar citrus with warmer materials in the drydown and about natural aldehydes derived from botanical sources. I’d love to try this.

I’m in the midwest, USA. Thanks!

  • How interesting! I enjoyed reading about the radiant, solar power of this fragrance, which I can imagine a bit from the note list – neroli, jasmine, aldehyde, oakmoss – and I enjoy natural perfumes for their pure/accurate scents. I also enjoyed DSH’s Musc Eau Natural. Thanks and hello from CO,USA!

  • I so enjoy green fragrances! They lift my spirits!
I love the description of ‘lively leafy green and wildflower elements’.
I think that Green Queen is a lovely and fun name!
    Thank you for the drawing.

I like the description of “bubbly lemon” and “lively leafy green.” Some of my favorite perfumes are green perfumes and I love DSH’s work. I have bought Oilette Rouge from her before and I am interested to see how she constructs a natural green perfume.

What a beautiful piece of artwork by Dawn to accompany the Green Queen cologne. I like that there are warm notes like orris that allow the cologne to have lasting power. It’s fitting that this has 100% natural botanical elements.
    I live in the USA.
