Atelier des Ors Rouge Sarây inspired by middle east trade routes

“Remember now Mazandaran, our homeland,  may its fields and villages prosper,

its gardens ever flowing, its mountain slopes set with hyacinth and wild tulip…

their perfumes rejoice the soul.” –  Ferdausi (11thcentury)

When I was young woman I lived for several years in Iran. Some of the most magical and happy times of my life were spent raising my family in this ancient and beautiful land. Many years have past, but I still recall the scents of the bazaars, the gardens and the countryside. I can still remember summer mornings in Tehran and the perfumes of the deserts and high mountains that surround the city. When I first encountered the new Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây I immediately experienced a wave of nostalgia and homesickness for the land and the people that I love so much.

The dawn breaks as doves fly, swirling from their dovecots. I hear the call to prayer and sense the city’s walled gardens and courtyards heating up in the early morning sunshine, extending a gentle hospitality, a dewy, olfactory welcome to what promises to be a hot and spicy day. My first breath of Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây, like a warm sweet orient breeze, a zephyr of tangy fruit and dewy petals of jasmine, heliotrope and spice, beckons me to the garden. The hours pass quickly among the flowers.

At midday I am drawn indoors by the scent of a steaming confection of dried dates and fresh plums seasoned with cinnamon and vanilla. This sweet heart of Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây lingers in the summer air well into the early evening, when sandalwood and gaiac waft softly from my skin. As night falls over the Alborz Mountains and dusky shadows creep across the landscape, Rouge Sarây proffers scented memories and peaceful dreams of a bustling city, sleeping fitfully in the heat, beneath a protective canopy of twinkling stars.

With Rouge Sarây,  Atelier Des Ors creative director Jean-Phillipe Clermont and perfumer Marie Salamagne bring us a fragrance reminiscent of the deserts of Jordan and the spice routes of the Middle East. Persia is a long way from Petra, but has been and still is the heart of the Silk Road. The romance of the desert and the history, poetry, myths and legends of the Middle East are reflected and distilled in the wonderfully evocative Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây.

Notes:  Jasmine petals, cinnamon essence, plum accord, heliotrope, date accord, patchouli, Peru balsam, sandalwood, vanilla and gaiac wood.

Disclaimer:  I would like to thank Atelier Des Ors for the beautiful memory-filled bottle of Rouge Sarây.  My opinions are my own.

“The romance of the desert and the history, poetry, myths and legends of the Middle East are reflected and distilled in the wonderfully evocative Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây.” That’s an evocative description – sounds like something I’d love to try.

My favorite Atelier Des Ors scent is Bois Sikar.

I live in Nashville, TN, USA.

  • Wow, what a lovely review! I loved reading about how this perfume brought back memories of the Middle East. I don’t have a Atelier des Ors yet because I have yet to try any. California, USA

  • BostonScentGuy says:

I love the evocative images that Gail draws–they paint a picture of a sweet confection that sounds like classic French perfumery meets eastern spices and ingredients. I love the way Gail brings us through the day, comparing various parts of the scent to different moments in the day. I love Lune Feline and Iris Fauve. Thanks so much for this draw! I’m in the US.

  • phoenixad says:

An interpretation of the desert is always intresting especially when it comes with spices. I didn’t have the chance to smell anything from atelier des ors. Im in Greece

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Thanks for this review and the draw . This perfume sounds amazing with plum, Dates, patchouli, jasmin, i have never been to Petra but this perfume sounds to fit perfectly to this place. I dont know any perfume of this house but I would love to try this one. I live in the EU.

  • Nice review, i love this house, almost everything that comes from them: the name, the bottles, the full presentation and of course the fragrances. I think i’ve tested pretty much the entire line, maybe missing 1-2 fragrances (rouge sarây included). My favourite from them remains Lune Feline for now, great fragrance. Thanks for the giveaway, i am in the EU.

  • Stefan Cretu says:

I have and own Lune Feline and it is one of the most special smells that I own. Presentation is top notch also. Love this brand’s direction. Looking forward to test Bois Sikar and Larmes du Desert in the future too. This one sounds pretty amazing, I’d love to add those beautiful gold flaskes to my collection.

What a beautiful reveiw Gail. Thank you for sharing a little about your time in Iran. Tehran, Ispahan – lands filled with history, good food and culture. It’s been on my travel list for a long time.

The fragrance sounds like it has distilled the very essence of the land..

My favourite Atelier frag is Iris Fauve.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • The best reviews are the one that associates the perfume with the writers memories and personal experience. Plum and dates are for me the best fruits to be used in a fragrance. I have AdO Iris Fauve and absolutely love it.
    from france.

  • I really enjoyed how the memories Gail described along with how this fragrance changed so much and the super detailed depictions of those memories! I’m in Pennsylvania and I’ve not yet experienced any Atelier Des Ors fragrances but they are discussed so much on YouTube fragrance reviews and I’d love to try them!

  • This review is really evocative and you had me at ” The romance of the desert and the history, poetry, myths and legends of the Middle East are reflected and distilled in the wonderfully evocative Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây.”. I do not have any Atelier Des Ors perfumes yet, but never is too late 🙂 Alina from EU.

  • I enjoyed that Gail related this fragrance back to personal experiences in Iran. It felt like she was telling a story of a day in Tehran and the fragrance just happened to fit the day so it felt very organic and not forced at all. The fragrance itself sounds great the notes are very appealing and it also sounds unique which I like. I havent tried any Atelier Des Ors fragrances yet though there are a number I want to try Rouge Saray now included but also Lune Feline, Iris Fauve, Choeur Des Anges, Pomelo Riviera etc. A big thank you from CT USA for the generous draw.

  • Michelyn Camen says:

Hi Herman2625, indigo Perfumery, luckycent and OSSWALD all sell the line

  • Thank you for the insightful review. The note combination sounds really interesting to me. There are notes that are absolutely my favorites like patchouli, plumand sandalwood, and there are also notes that I didn’t care about like jasmine and date. I would love to try how these notes are gonna work out.
My favorite Atelier Des Ors creation has been Aube Rubis, the green powdery patchouli combo is magical.
Thank you for the opportunity of the giveaway, good luck everyone.

I’ve never been to Iran but I have been to Morocco and I imagine my experience of the fragrance might be similar. I can smell the spices and dates in the desert like heat with some heady flowers and resinous wood in the background. It sounds lovely and would olfactorily transport me back to my long ago trip. I’ve not tried any Atelier Des Ors before. Commenting from MD, USA.

From Gail’s review, I’m imagining Middle Eastern fruit / spice / flower markets all wrapped into one and bottled in Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây. Brilliant! VA, USA.

I live in California, USA

  • A beautiful perfume. With the first sniff, you can tell it is very special.
    Can’t wait until it arrives!
Thank you, Gail, for taking us on its journey.

I dont know any perfume from this house but I would love to try this one. Oh wait, I tried Lune Feline and it was great but I am not a fan of vanilla. This one, on the other hand, is just for me. I don’t often do this, as, with me being part of the team and getting access to so many a glorious scents, I think it indecent and gluttonous of me to try for even more; but Atelier des Ors is not something I can resist so yes, please, with all the shame, do count me in for the draw.
I, too, visited Iran a while back, and know exactly what Gail is talking about: the timelessness, the stillness of heat, the courtyards and flowers following their own routines on the edges of bazaars; the pulse; the hyperrealistic dew! Rouge Saray, yes, please come to me.
I’m dana, I’m shameless to even consider entering (ashes on my head!!!), and I’m in the US 🙂

  • William Thomas Smallwood says:

Love desert fragrances, though I not a fan of gold flakes. It just looks gaudy. Let the fragrance speak for itself. Oregon, US.

  • ElenaChiss says:

Very nice photos! They are perfectly describing the connection with the oriental world of the fragrance. I love everything I have tried from Marie Salamagne and I am sure I will love Rouge Sarây. I am from Europe.

I loved the connection and memory of iran to this fragrance ! I think they must have done a excellent job creating that desert smell and feeling ! The description of the beautiful morning in the desert helps me imagin too. I live in mississippi, usa. I have never tried this brand and really hope to.

  • A garden in the desert, I like that picture. Thank you for sharing your memories with us, this beautiful country would deserve so much more these days. I’d be happy to win Rouge Sarây to Germany, thanks for the draw. And I love my wife in Lune Féline!

  • I am in love with this review! The memories of Iran are so evocative I would love to try this perfume that conjures this up. I haven’t tried anything from Atelier Des Ors so
this would be a lovely introduction. I am in U.K.

  • What I loved most about Gail’s review was the expression “The romance of the desert ”

It immediately transported my mind to a place and let my imagination build a story of what this would represent to me and I love scents that can do that.

My favourite from the house is rose omyead.
    I’m from Ireland, EU

  • Love the insightful review, i could picture myself wandering through the desert as i read. The notes sounds wonderful too. I didn’t have the chance to experience this house but i would love to. Thanks for this generous draw. I live Germany, EU.

  • QuentinMathieu says:

I really enjoy the offerings from this brand. I really want to try this one, because the theme of the Middle East and spices routes fascinating. I’ve always been a fan of oriental fragrances. My favourites from the house are Larmes du désert and Musc immortal. Thanks for the giveaway! From Belgium (EU)

  • I visited Iran in the 1970’s and I was overwhelmed with the beauty and richness of the people and their culture. It was exotic and filled with colour and light. So for me the review was a peek into my past too. I loved the Middle East and to find that memory evoked in a perfume would fill my heart with Joy.

  • I once visited the rose city of Petra, I would love for this perfume to take me back down memory lane and enchant me once again. Great review would love to win! Living in the EU

  • Iran (and Teheran especially) is a place I hope I’ll get to visit sometime. Experiencing it through a perfume sounds really wonderful — thanks for that image! I have yet to try any Atelier Des Ors fragrances. I’m from Italy.

A beautiful and evocative description just took my breath away. I am intrigued by dates note the most. My favourite from this house is Rose Ommeyade. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • This story is pure poetry, I can see the sand dunes and the charm of the Middle East, Rouge Sarây brings back to the culture of these places so far from my everyday life. This perfume with dates and spices must be enchanting. I have nothing at Atelier Des Ors.
    Linda EU

  • Notes: Jasmine petals, cinnamon essence, plum accord, heliotrope, date accord, patchouli, Peru balsam, sandalwood, vanilla and gaiac wood. I am intrigued by plum notes, and Patchouli in particular. A beautiful piece by Gail conjuring up images and smells of middle Eastern exoticism. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • I have not had the chance to try any form this house, but reading Gail’s review I am sure I would love it. Lots of flowers and spices, truly something reminding us of the deserts and the Silk Route.
    Thanks! Europe

  • Thank you Gail for sending me down the memory path of my travel to Iran 8 or so years ago. I would love to smell it neatly packed in a bottle of perfume …
    And thanks for the draw.
    I’m in EU (Slovenia)

  • What a wonderful nostalgic review by ms. Gail. I have had the chance to meet and “be in” a Persian community and get to know their wonderful culture, the warm, smart people, with soft spoken voices, calm vibes and a love for people, art, food and beauty. This perfume just evokes them to me: sparkly with fruit, enchanting with jasmine, but mainly sultry, warm, grounding with vanilla, cinnamon and woods. I would be so delighted to try this and would probably be hit by similar nostalgia. I am in the EU and have only smelled Musc Immortel and loved it. Thanks.

  • Iran still is on my list of countries to visit; it has something magic. Gail’s memory described in the review witnesses to that. I can only imagine! Gail’s description brings up my memories of Marrakech, off Jemaa el-Fna, in the evening while sitting on a terrace rooftop “Chez Lamine” waiting for my Tanjia while hearing the calls of prayer from different directions and smelling the many dried fruit and spice stalls 3 floors down. Mix this with Ildefonso Falcones’ “Cathedral of the Sea” or “Fatima’s Hand”while smelling some sandalwood. Now I really want to sample this! My top 3 favourites of Atelier des Ors are Iris Fauve, Rose Omeyyade and Lune Feline and I am still eying Aube Rubis. But Gail’s description makes me replace Aube Rubis with Rouge Sarây as number one to sample. Just send it over to Belgium ;D

  • I love the atmosphere that Gail created in her review! I don’t know the Atelier des Ors perfumes, but I’m very curious about them. The notes of Rouge Saray are very appealing! I live in Romania, EU.

  • carlos_lager says:

    USA

  • abbie road says:

just gorgeous. i LOVE some sweet dates with bitter black tea so i know i would really enjoy this fragrance. loved hearing about Gail’s young life. usa

  • I had the chance to try Bois Sikar. One of the most polarizing, unusual and nichey fragrances I have ever put my nose on. A strong and bizzare opening that morphs into something mellow and pleasant and easy to love. Totally different from what you get in the start. It is like you get ice from fire or viceversa. It defies common sense and logic. I wonder if Rouge Sarây is the same, if it is a trademark of this house.
    EU

  • I loved reading about Gail’s olfactory memories of Tehran. I live in the US and do not have a favorite Atelier des Ors fragrance.

  • I have never tried an Atelier Des Ors fragrance, but this one sounds great. I have never been to the Middle East but the romance of the review makes me really interested in this fragrance. USA

  • Jake Dauod says:

I like that Gail incorporated some of her past into this review. I like that she says the fragrance is reminiscent of the spice bazaars and the date note really intrigues me. I love Middle Eastern fragrances, and I would love to try this fragrance. I don’t have a favorite Atelier Des Ors fragrance (I haven’t tried any of them yet), but I have heard only great things about the brand. Kind regards from Illinois, USA!

  • IvanVelikov says:

I don’t mind sweet fragrance, but this time I’m happy to know gourmand notes are present, but restrained. Multifaceted fragrance suitable for all occasions is what I expect from Rouge Saray.
To me Atelier Des Ors equals class , beauty and creativity , but most importantly equals Rose Omeyyade . If i have to describe it with one word it will be phenomenal. Not only it smells gorgeous , but gets me huge amount of compliments. I do not wear fragrances just for compliments , but it’s nice to get noticed .
Thanks Gail – good job , and of course thanks to Atelier Der Ors .

wonderfully descriptive! so good, I am now hunting down a sample of this sweet, spicy sounding beauty. all I needed to read was “plum seasoned with and cinnamon and vanilla” and I was sold.

  • Gabriel Garcia Leyva says:

    Great review Gail
It’s well known about that part of the world of their life and culture, specially their hospitality and their gentle lands, I just imagine, walking thru a market bazaar, and exploring, Atelier de ors is evocation in their renditions, ever since lune feline, and bois sikar.

  • Uncle1979 says:

I have smelled 2 Atelier des Ors creations and Lune Feline is my favorite , even though Bois Sikar is pretty good too. Lune Feline is one of the few fragrances I bought the same day after initial testing. Usually I do like to sample first, especially when I’m paying retail prices. For every gourmand and vanilla lover – try it. One of the best vanilla fragrance ever created. And I know vanilla well being Pastry Chef.
Plum Brioche with cinnamon crumble topping is what I instantly imagined after reading Gail Gross review of Rouge Saray .
No doubt about it, I will check it out as soon as it’s available in US.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây sounds wonderful to me. I love sweet smelling perfumes. And the bottle is amazing. Thank you very much for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • A friend of mine asked me to visit him in India and after reading your article I’m thinking of booking an extra couple of days off from work to visit Iran. I simply have to visit one of their legendary bazaars and see the history of this these ancient lands. Simply wonderful article!

    I live in the UK

I have tried a sample of Cuir Sacré before and look forward to trying Rouge Sarây.

  • The desert is a magical place that you have to experience it, at least once in your lifetime. Dusty, dewy air mixed with a heavy dose of spices and the creaminess of sandalwood lying underneath, combining everything into a mystical aura; the seductive aura of the East!

  • What a interesting part about Gail’s life in Iran. I like this country eith amazing historical and cultural heritage too. And it will be amazing to test Jean-Phillipe Clermont’s and Marie Salamagne’s fragrance reminiscent of the deserts of Jordan and the spice routes of the Middle East.

  • I enjoyed reading about the author’s memories about life in Iran and how scents are a major part of that nostalgia. The fragrance sounds rich and luscious, and I’m especially interested in seeing how the plum and date accords work with the other notes. I still have to try this line, so this is a great opportunity. Thank you! I am in the USA.

  • Enjoyed Gail’s description of Atelier des Ors Rouge Saray, along with the photos that go so well with the written word. Imagery of Iran and Jordan aligns well with their olfactory images. A spicy fragrance such as this is what would make my day. Thanks for the review and the drawing. Writing from the USA.

  • Gail is right that spice bazaars in Middle East and Iran etc have a particular smell that one does not easily forget. Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây is inspired by the Middle East and the notes like cinnamon and plum in the composition probably help conjure similar aromas. USA.

  • I love Atelier des Ors perfumes, especially Luna Feline and I like its style, sure Rouge Sarây is beautiful too.
“…like a warm sweet orient breeze, a zephyr of tangy fruit and dewy petals of jasmine..” sounds very yummy!!!

I loved the transition of describing the scent as day to night scene. I’ve visited several deserts, and the spicy florals settling into an expansive uplifting background of resins feels very appropriate to the experience. I live in the USA and have not tried any Atelier Des Ors fragrances, but have definitely wanted to after seeing a lot of compliments online for their riviera drive series!

  • What a beautiful review by Gail – evokes wonderful memories of the trade route. I was recently in Petra, and have visited the souks and bazaars of Turkey, Morocco and Egypt in the past, and Gauil’s descriptions captures those olfactory memories so poignantly! I also love the paintings shown, especially the first ‘Garden party’ which is beautiful. Now I can’t wait to try the fragrance, after such an impressive build-up! Thanks for writing this Gail! This sounds downright delicious. Gail described her memory beautifully; makes me wonder more about Iran. Jasmine is my favorite flower and I would love to smell it combined with these other essences, especially dates! I live in NY and have not tried Atelier Des Ors fragrances yet.

Being Atelier des Ors fanboy I have smelled all their fragrances, excluding the brand new Rouge Saray .
Gorgeous Oriental leaning into gourmand I think it is . Plum is my favorite note in perfumery, so my expectations are really high.
Iran is a beautiful country with rich history, cuisine and warm people famous with its hospitality. What mainstream media wants us to believe about the country is complete nonsense
My favorite Atelier des Ors hmmm Bois Sikar maybe?
Gail, Cafleurebon and Atelier des Ors I already follow on Instagram.

  • I love desert themed fragrances and there are so many options for filling them out. I’m in the USA, and have not tried any fragrances by Atelier Des Ors, so no favorite.

  • I’m intrigued by this as it sounds like a wintery dark, heavy, rich fruity desert that is consumed in the warmth of the magic hour when the light gets odd and all the flowers scents seem to become overwhelming, in a place I’ve never been and can only imagine. Warm and lush. my mouth just watered. so fingers crossed I get to taste this, I mean smell it. I’m in Dublin EU

Thanks for the review! I love Atelier Des Ors’ packaging, it’s just stunning. The whole concept behind this fragrance is very interesting, I would love to visit the Middle East to fully dive into the culture there! I’ve been in Tunisi years ago and the review reminded me of the lovely days spent there, walking between the bazaars; I feel there’s a similar vibe. It would be lovely to try this fragrance, the notes sound amazing!
Thanks again. I live in Italy 🙂

  • Camille Sheil says:

I have never sampled any of Atelier Des Ors fragrances, but I must say that this one sounds like my favorite so far! Beautifully blended, with an unusual combination. I haven’t seen much Jasmine and cinnamon, personally. But my repertoire is still quite small. And thankfully growing!

What a lovely review! Clean, fresh, hot. It seems like this the kind of heat that bakes, rather than is spicy or pungent. I live the smells of the desert, that baked quality. It does add something unusual. But probably the most unusual quality is when there is something fresh and cool. It is beyond refreshing…it has a smell as well.

Thank you so much for this opportunity! Very much enjoyed this review! I live in New Hampshire USA!

  • Thanks for the review and the giveaway! Really like the sharing of your time in Iran. And the notes sound delicious! Hope I get the chance to win this.

Gail did such an amazing job of conveying her experience of living in Iran and taking the reader to another place when we cannot physically travel at the moment. It really makes me want to travel the world and explore other cultures, food, and especially fragrances.
This is my first exposure to Atelier Des Ors, so I’m afraid I do not have a favorite yet, although this one sounds excellent. I’m in IL, USA for the giveaway.

  • Steliyan Syarov says:

A truly incredible picture. Love the parfumers view and how she structured the scent with the smell of plum and dates being prominent, because they are redolent of the time she spent in Iran. Sounds like a very warm and personal scent. Would love to try it. Thanks for the giveaway! Greetings from Austria!

  • Beautiful selection of pictures, Gail! As for the fragrance itself, the cinnamon essence and plum accord got my curiosity as this is usually a nice blend that gives an oriental vibe andnit has been widely used until now in many women fragrances – and I always loved it! So Rouge Sarây will be on my liking as well. I am sure of it. I am from Europe. Thanks!

  • I love Atelier Des Ors and I’m really looking forward to trying Rouge Saray! Gail, thank you for transporting us to a land you love through this fragrance! Iris Fauve is a masterpiece and one of my favourite fragrances ! I’m in the UK
    Thank you!

  • I know Atelier Des Ors by name , but unfortunately i have never smelled their fragrances . I do remember Sebastian did a few Atelier Des Ors YouTube reviews . There was Rose Omeyyade mini review , on Cafleurebon a few months back also . Everyone is praising this fragrance house for a reason i presume. It’s perfect time for sampling .
Rouge Saray is playful sexy one, I’m certain I’ll enjoy a lot.

  • Modern take on “One Thousand and One Nights” . Gail review was like a folktale with dates in it. Love eating dates, always have Iranian dates for my customers at the barbershop. Everybody knows the best dates come from Iran.
Well made I’m sure Rouge Saray is.
Rose Omeyyade is my favorite Atelier des Ors fragrance, birthday gift I received from my sister 2.5 years ago. I’m wearing it on special occasions only.
Thanks to Atelier Does Ors for the chance, and to Gail for her review.

  • Sounds like a beautiful fragrance. Enjoyed the article as well. Haven’t got the chance to try any Atelier Des Ors Fragrances yet. This would be nice. Thanks, Ca

I too have enjoyed the smell of a middle eastern Bazaar, the smell of spices are simply unforgettable, enjoyed the review. Rouge Sarây seems enticing and decadent. I have not experienced any of Atelier des Ors fragrances , sad to say. I live in California Thank you.

I almost envy Gail Gross for her years in Iran . Always wanted to visit the country, but I’m not US citizen, but resident with a business Visa, and I was told by a lawyer last year not to, because there could be complications…
Sandalwood, florals, dried fruits is how I imagine a market in Iran to smell.
    Sounds great.
    I’m amazed by Lune Feline.
    Exsiting giveaway, USA

  • This sounds like such a classically Middle East desert oriental spice scent. I have to admit this house has the most beautiful bottles which always remind me of cut crystal decanters, but I’ve yet to try anything from this house yet. It’s always great hearing what the perfume evokes from an individual. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Gail painted such an evocative picture of the Middle East and the warm desert sand. My favorite fragrances are those that can transport me to a new time or place. I have not yet tried a perfume from Atelier des Ors, but this one sounds like it would fit my taste the best. Thanks for the kind giveaway. Greetings from a reader in Denmark.

  • The way scent can trigger a memory or a place in our minds is one of the things I love best about fragrance. Thank you for the review & the draw, I’m in the US. That mirror is gorgeous–what a treasure!

I was born in Samarkand and just like Gail said in her review, if you have been in this ancient, magical places you will never forget freshy aromas of fruits and spices, really exquisite aroma of sweets and amazing scents of the bazaars, the freshness of gardens and beauty of water fountains. I can still remember our rides in to Kyzyl Kim desert between Samarkand and Bukhara, there is impressive Rabati Malik Caravanserai, build in the 11-th century and now has been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Thank you Gail, I enjoyed reading your review and get my own pleasant remembering about my time in Central Asia. Yes, I think “Rouge Saray” composition ( Gourmand, creamy, siropy, beautiful) capture the feeling of equisite indulgence abundance and traditional hospitality of the Middle East.
Another great creation of Marie Salamagne for Atelier Des Ors and for now
    My favorite Line Feline.

I’d love a chance at this. Dates…..oh yes, I’m also a fan of guiaic wood. I’ve heard a lot of buzz on social media of this fragrance. I am not familiar with this line, but plan to order a sample of Lune Feline as I’ve heard good things about that one. I was interested to read about Iran as I don’t know much about that country. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I don’t have a favorite but I do love atelier. I’m so intrigued by how this fragrance is explained. Absolutely love the notes in this! I’m in MI USA

  • Thank you Gail for sharing your experience in Iran. With all that is going all in our world hopefully that Iran in not one of a begone era. I am really interested the date accord. Will it be an earthy syrupy sweet?

My favorite fragrance is Lune Feline.

  • My absolute favourite from this house is Larmes du Désert – which translates to ‘tears of the desert’ – such a poetic name. If Rouge Sarây has anything in common with my favourite, then I am totally sold! I am from EU. Many thanks for this wonderful chance!

  • The note combination sounds really appealing to me, but as well is Gail’s story. She took me in fabulous world of 1001 nights. Very evocative review for Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây. What I enjoyed about Gail’s review was her story surrounding how the fragrance made her feel. For example, “The dawn breaks as doves fly, swirling from their dovecots. The hours pass quickly among the flowers.”

I live in Waldorf, MD, USA. And, unfortunately, I’ve only experienced Atelier Des Ors vicariously through YouTube reviews. Hopefully, I will win this and have my first nosegasm from an Atelier Des Ors fragrance.

  • I haven’t tried this fragrance or any of them by this house. But when you said it’s like a warm sweet orient breeze, a zephyr of tangy fruit and dewy petals of jasmine, heliotrope and spice, beckons me to the garden., I fell in love so so bad.

  • Lately I found out that I quite like the taste of dates in my fragrances. This ingrediënt mixed with all the ingrediënts listed in Rouge Seray makes me very curious about this new creation. I would love to try it. I live in EU. Thank you Atelier des Ors and Cafleurebon for this wonderful draw.

  • I enjoyed the fond, nostalgic musing on the beauty of the Persian landscape and people evoked by Atelier des Ors’ Rouge Sarây. I’m a big fan of this house and own Nuda Veritas and Lune Feline, my two favorites. Thank you for considering my entry into this draw. From Florida.

Gail, great review of Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây. I loved the backstory growing up in Iran experiencing the florals with a nice almondy heliotrope. I really love the sound of plum, vanilla, and cinnamon transitioning into the base. My favorite Atelier Des Ors fragrance I have tried is Riviera. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • LinePlaneVolume says:

Gail’s review is full of sweet, evocative memories… thanks for sharing. I’ve never sampled anything fro Atelier Des Ors, but I tend to love desert scents. Writing from Pacific Northwest.

  • I loved Gails review about the fragrance Rouge Sarây. Her home sickness when smelling the fragrance tells me that this is a beauty. “When I first encountered the new Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây I immediately experienced a wave of nostalgia and homesickness for the land and the people that I love so much.” I enjoyed reading this. Thank you. I have tried Lune Feline a beauty. USA

  • I enjoyed all those fascinating impressions of living in a big city close to a desert – many thanks for those!

I dont have yet a favorite fragrance of this brand!

    Living in Germany, EU

  • What a poignant, short, but excellent review of Rouge Saray by Gail. Iran is a country I’ve always wanted to visit, as its culture has had profound effects on many moments in world history. I loved how Gail melded her memories of her time spent in Iran with the chronological development of Rouge Saray, even imparting a spatial aspect to this fragrance. I personally have not tried many fragrances by Atelier des Ors, although I do love Lune Feline, a wonderful spicy, dry vanilla composition. Thanks Atelier des Ors for the generous giveaway! I’m in Oregon, USA.

  • Thank you everyone for your comments, memories and for taking part. And again, many thanks to Atelier des Ors for the generous draw for the beautiful Rouge Sarây. Please check back here at CaFleureBon for the announcement of the lucky winner.

  • Gail’s review of Atelier Des Ors Rouge Sarây was extremely helpful and interesting. She really knows her stuff when it comes to describing fragrances. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her review. I’ve never tried anything from this house before but I’d love to. Thanks for the great review and the great giveaway. Commenting from Kentucky USA.

  • What Gail describes is a romantic memory of a place that is like an oasis in the desert, it sounds fresh and gourmand-y.
I would love to be able to smell this perfume.
